This is the community briefing for the serious use of force K-9 bite that occurred in the 1600 block of 30th Street Southeast on Monday, December 2nd, 2024 at 1:14 p.m. The Metropolitan Police Department's model use of force policy and training emphasize deescalation, proportionality, and reasonleness. Since December 2016, all patrol officers have been required to wear bodywn cameras while on duty. On Monday, December 2nd, 2024, 6th district officers responded to the area of 30th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue Southeast for a vehicle wanted by outside jurisdiction for robbery. The occupants of the vehicle fled on foot and were pursued by one of the officers. Two of the occupants, one of whom was armed with a pistol, were quickly apprehended. The third occupant fled behind a residence, and a perimeter was set up around the location. As the officers approached the individual to take them into custody, the individual got up and attempted to flee. One of the officers grabbed the individual and they both fell over a retaining wall onto the sidewalk below. The dog followed and once again bit the individual. The dog was recalled and the officers handcuffed the individual. The individual sustained injuries to their chest and right arm and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. [Music] We're going to give a first warning in our First one at 1329 at 1329 all the units stay on the perimeter. If they're doing stand still, where did you last bushes? [Applause] We're going to get that. This is your last warning. Police can be used to deploy. If you don't come out, go produce my dog. Approach by the dog. Surrender. Main still target location. Speaking of the homeowner, there is a water pit of some kind in the shrubbery area. So, just just be [Music] ready. Find them. Hold them. Let me see your hands. Keep your hands up. Do not move. Do not move. Do not move. Come. Come. Leave them. Keep your hands up. You hear me? Keep your hands up. Do not move. Get him. Get him. Good boy. Leave him. Leave him. Leave him. Good boy. This incident is pending review by the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia. When the United States Attorney's Office completes their review, the case will be investigated by MPD's Internal Affairs Bureau Force Investigation Team.
