Do me a favor. >> Don't do anything stupid. >> I'm not I'm not a stupid guy. I'm a smart guy. >> Take it off. Please place it on the chair. >> Wait here to run with other people. >> Keep your pants on. >> No, I didn't. >> I I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING. [screaming] WHY DID YOU DO THAT even tighter >> around? >> Why is he hurting me even? Why is he hurting me? >> I didn't even do anything. I didn't do anything and he's hurting me more. Some people move into homes that don't belong to them, then act like the real owners are the problem. They refuse to leave, argue with police, and act with unbelievable entitlement. But their actions usually only make things far worse when cops finally had enough of entitled squatters in homes. >> Do not touch me. Do not touch me. Do not touch me. >> Listen, we don't want to fight with you. We don't want to house, >> but you're going to have to leave. We're asking you to leave. >> On March 5th, 2025, officers were called to a house in Ohio after a reality company reported somebody living on their property. When police arrived, they discovered a woman named Zahana inside. She refused to leave and falsely claimed that the house belonged to her. >> So, supposed to be working on this house here. And >> [music] >> um when I approach, there's some lady walking around with a shopping cart full of stuff in the driveway asking me what I'm doing here. And I poke my head in the back door where the lock box is supposed to be and the windows broken out and fresh food on the counter and um did you actually see someone in the house? >> Yeah. The lady comes up to me and says, "What are you doing?" Like uh supposed to be working here like 791, right? It's like no, but clearly it is. All my pictures point to this place. [laughter] So lady was holding something in her hand, but I didn't want to >> Yeah. really pressure it too much. I don't know if it was mace or something. Something black. And >> the police. >> Yeah. hacker place. >> Why are you here? >> Why are you here? >> I don't know about that. >> Go away. I say >> she's like go away. >> You're not going to make us come in and arrest you, are you? >> Go away. >> She's got you there. >> Oh, we're not going away. It wasn't entirely clear how long Zahana had been staying inside the home, but the property had been vacant for some time. The reality company employee had arrived on site to do some maintenance on the property. >> Who owns it? >> Who? A guy named Lewis owns this, but it's rented by Refax, which is why I asked her. This was the woman that was here prior. I don't know if you guys recognize her. She was very curious in what I was doing here saying she had friends here or something like >> you work for Remax? >> Yeah. >> Do you guys have a key or >> There's supposed to be a lock box on the door. But >> are you going to come out here? >> No. Wait. This is my house. I paid rent here. >> And who are you paying rent to? [music] >> Well, that's not who owns the house. The door had been boarded shut with a large piece of wood, preventing the officers from entering. With the entrance blocked off, the only clear options were to use tools to break in or climb through the broken window. >> Ma'am, if I go in this window, you're going to go to jail. Well, you're about to go back unless you leave this house. >> No, it's not. >> Are you wanting to sign trespass charges like you'll go down and do that? Yeah, it's fine. You shouldn't be here. I'm assuming the minute that [music] either you guys leave or I leave, it's going to be the same thing again. >> Last chance, ma'am. >> Yeah, this one sold. >> There's no lock box. There's no way for you to get in. You can't take this off. >> I don't know. You can do that. This sold in November last year. So, >> and you're the manager currently. >> Yeah. Well, the company broke for you. I just called to double check and verify this is the correct address and they sent me a [music] >> lock for the whole file on this call for a dog. >> No, we're good. I'll get in. I just don't feel [music] like it. >> Yeah. And then >> you're skinnier than I am. >> Sorry. >> I'll let you enter up front. Ma'am, where you at? >> Oh, this is so silly. Ma'am, [music] >> go away. >> Oh, this thing's freaking >> screwed shut. Yeah, you I don't >> screws in. >> What's that? Yeah, there are. >> I don't know how we're going to get her out. [music] >> You got any tools? >> I don't. >> The house clearly didn't belong to her. There was no furniture and very little evidence that anyone had actually been living there aside from a pile of clothes in the corner of one room. One officer also noted that there was a mental health facility nearby and suspected it could have some connection to Zahana. >> I was in there on my phone. What do you want? >> What's your name, ma'am? >> Zahana. >> Why? Why are you in here when you shouldn't be in here? [music] >> This is my house. >> It's not your house, ma'am. >> It is my house. I [music] paid rent here. >> So, what do you want? >> How much rent did you pay? >> 250. Man, this is going to be a silly thing to go to jail over. >> What do you mean to go to jail? I >> The owner The owner of this house is here and they're going to sign trespass charges on you. We've given you what >> for being in a house that you don't belong in. >> This is my house. >> That thing's in there tight. >> Yeah. I don't like >> Yeah, but they're not hooked into anything down here. Well, it looks like they're kind going in at an angle into that frame. >> Yeah, that must be it. I don't know what it See, what he wants us to do because we can't get her out of here. >> Like, you can go in that window, too, but then what are we going to do? >> Yeah, we still have a problem getting her out. >> Obviously, she knew what she was doing by screwing the front door shut. And not only that, but she boarded up the back door as well. Officers were concerned they wouldn't be able to remove her from the property without access to either door. >> 23. >> I mean any amount of this we we we can't throw her out of this window to arrest her. I would think >> he's out of here. I mean, I don't know what what you want us to exactly do. I mean, do you want to force this issue or I mean, is that what you want? >> Yeah. >> I mean, you guys, like I said, you guys need to get tools to either unbarricade this door or unbaricate that one. We cannot arrest her and toss her out this window, >> you know? I mean, if you guys can do that now, then that's not a problem. But we have no problem arresting her. But yeah, that's not going to look good if we're throwing her out this freaking window. >> Sorry, >> ma'am. Is this really worth going to jail for? >> I'm not going. >> You're going to go to jail. >> I pay rent. >> You don't You don't live here. You broke in. You're going to get charged with criminal trespass and go to jail. >> If you leave now, you still won't go to jail. >> I just told you to. >> I'm telling I'm telling you what's going to happen. >> I told you to troll. >> I don't believe you. I'm telling you what's going to happen. >> I told you to troll. I heard you. >> I told you to call. >> So, I'm thinking if I can get this whole thing out, maybe we can do it through here. We going to have to toss her. >> Yeah. At least it's not trying to go through that little window. >> Yeah. >> Blah blah. Can you please tell them to get out of our house, please? >> I think it's just her. >> It's just one >> cuz everybody went to work. >> She's been in here a while. No, I have not. I just came back from school. >> How'd you get in? >> From the front door. I got a key. >> The door didn't open. >> Pretty much set up >> cuz I locked it. Duh. >> Get out. >> She told the officers that she was waiting for her mom and dad to come home from work. But it was obvious they didn't own the property, and there was no indication she lived there with her parents. Even stranger, she claimed somebody was upstairs asleep, but officers checked and found no one. >> All right, come on, ma'am. >> No. Yes, ma'am. >> I'm not leaving out my house. [music] >> I'm not leaving out my house. >> You are. You are. >> No, I'm not. >> Okay. >> Go away. Do not touch me, >> ma'am. Do not touch me. Do not leave. Do not get >> Do not touch me. Do not touch me. Do not touch me. >> Listen, we don't want to fight with you. We don't want to leave my house. [music] >> But you're going to have to leave. We're asking you to leave house. Okay. blah blah right now is Jazz Me on and right now he told me to stay in here and wait until he come back. So leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. I'll wait for blah blah to come back. >> Okay. >> Mo, get off of me. Get off of me. Get off of me. Y [screaming] >> officers didn't want to remove her from the house through the window. So, they waited for the realtor to grab tools so they could remove the screws and get in through the main door. But they had no luck and the only way to remove her was through the window. >> You ready to stand up? One, two, three. Come on. We're going to walk towards this window here. Okay. Put your foot up, please. Need help. We want your need assistance. Are you good? [laughter] >> Just watch me flop out of here. That's all. >> He's way more cooperative about that than I expected. Hold on. >> Yeah. >> Hold my man. There we go. [laughter] >> Yeah. Way to get the these forbs off. >> You all right? >> Yep. >> What's happening on here? >> Don't worry about it. She's not walking. >> I just wanted to see cuz um >> she's good. >> All right. She's all right. I don't reason I'm asking because I'd be in this house sometimes. He said, "I have nowhere to stay." >> Oh, don't go in there anymore. >> Don't go in there cuz you'll get arrested. >> While she was securely in the car, another man turned up. It wasn't clear if he knew Zahana, but he admitted to staying in the empty house at times. It appeared the house had been the go-to place for squatters. >> There was some truck parked out front here and they [music] disappeared when you guys got here. >> Yeah. No, I think this is like this is like the homeless shelter right now. That's Yeah. Upstairs. There's a air mattress. There's nail shoes. There's nail shoes. >> I guess I got to make sure they'll even take her for trespass. >> I mean, yeah, cuz I'm with you. She >> main thing I I I mean, if she they don't take her for that many pig slipper or something like that, too. I don't know. >> And I know I'm assuming we're probably not in her right mind considering >> No, she's definitely not. >> There's drawers full of rocks [music] and >> Yeah. >> In the end, Zahana was arrested and taken to jail where she was booked and charged with criminal trespassing. At the time, officers were also considering issuing a pink slip for her, which leads to an involuntary psychiatric hold for suspects they deemed to be a danger to themselves or others. On March 22nd, 2024, police in Monmouth County, New Jersey, responded to a burglary in progress after a couple entered a family home, changed the locks, and tried to claim ownership through a sovereign citizen doctrine called adverse possession. >> These people like weird, >> I had the keys to go inside my house. >> Like, literally. >> When did this all go down? 3 March 15th. >> It's new. So this is my first time getting >> I don't know bought >> the house for 100 bucks. >> Sorry. >> No for you, man. I'll give you 200 right now. >> You record? [laughter] >> I don't. >> Yes. [music] >> Where are you moving from? >> Let me see this. You hold your seat. >> What's that? >> My cousin. >> When the officer asked the man, Messiah La Elbby, where he had moved from, he quickly changed the subject, pretending he had spotted his cousin. He also bizarrely claimed the property cost him just $100, making officers understandably suspicious. Meanwhile, they began speaking with the neighbors. >> How long till she was last? >> Why has it been years since she or she? >> No, she still used to sell some house. >> She own three brothers own even let's say one of those who would have sold. for me after. >> All right. Well, >> she called. >> Thank you. >> What? >> She called? >> Yeah, she's the caller. >> Hey, what's your name? >> I didn't see the the address and the papers. You saw me. Call us. >> What's called the papers? I didn't see the Okay. >> Because I'm on the phone with her talking about my husband. Ask me how my husband you seen him. You seen him trying to walk in. No, I come to and she told me, "Oh, I try uh put the water on in on the house and I come to the water." I come to the window and tell, "Wait a second, but he's in here. Try put the truck on the driveway." And she told, "No." >> All right. Well, they own it now, so there's not much you guys really can do. All right. They don't. >> No, they do. >> Believe me, it's a mistake. >> Okay. Well, if it's a mistake, then we'll figure it out. All right. >> Yeah. I let them come. >> All right. Thank you guys. The real homeowner, Maria, soon arrived on scene and explained that her family had maintained the property for over 60 years. Messiah's claim that it had been abandoned quickly fell apart. >> What's going on? >> What's going on? Hi, my name is Maria. I own this house. >> Marie. Okay. >> The uh I don't know. >> What's this? This is the man responsible for this property for years. >> Okay. And he knows any He knows my whole family. >> Yeah. He just sold them. >> So there's nobody here that they don't know. >> He said they own the house now. I don't know. They said he bought the house. >> He bought the house. >> Yeah. He got it through Mammoth County. He's got his time stamp paperwork through the the county clerk's office. >> How could that be? >> Did you fall behind or something? I don't know. But >> neither. >> Never. >> Where is this person? >> Inside the house. >> Inside the house. >> I don't need to speak. Well, listen. No, you kind of do. >> I promise you. Listen, this is a civil matter. >> Okay. Well, we're here now. So, now it's a police matter. >> Okay. Police don't have no jurisdiction. >> Who did you buy that? >> It's right here on the paper. >> Who is the owner of the house on on the owner? [music] >> Yo, Kell. That's not the That's not the owner on on on the mama's court. >> It's Joseph. >> Yes. Yes, that is. That's exactly who it is. That's who it was. Joseph. >> Yes. >> Correct. >> No, he is not. He's buying that. >> Do you know? Hold on. Hold on. Do you know what an adverse possession is? >> Adverse possession. A house being abandoned for over a certain It's It's law. Yes. It is abandoned. It been abandoned forever. >> No, sir. I mean, every single summer. >> Yes. You're not because I've been here. >> I've been living here. >> So, what are you saying? You moved in this house? >> I've been living here. It's an adverse possession, sir. I'm saying it's some kind of loophole. And >> it's a adverse possession. >> It's not a loophole, bro. >> It's not a loophole. >> How did you get inside the house to the elephant? [music] >> Listen, I >> It was open, sir. >> After being confronted, Messiah started throwing out sovereign citizen jargon at the officer. As though throwing out fake legal buzzwords would make the whole situation go away. He insisted that the police had no jurisdiction and acted as though the laws didn't apply to him. >> Do you have a copy of the deed to a vacant house? >> They recorded the deed. >> Do you have a copy of the deed? >> Can I see it? >> Not right now. >> I showed you all the property that I sold you what I have. I have receipts. >> You didn't show us the receipts. [music] >> Did you pay taxes? >> What other receipts show? >> What other receipts do you have? Notice I I claimed the property. is in it's >> just drive around and clean vacant properties for your own strange. >> Don't tell me you don't know law, sir. >> Nobody gave you a key. >> Figure it out. I gave you all the information here illegally. >> Just stay right here. Just stay right here because you're >> kick me out the house. >> You can't kick you out. I can't kick you out until you just walk in. >> Okay. Adverse possession is a legal concept that allows uh a trespasser, sometimes a stranger, but more often than ever, to gain legal title over the land of a property owner. Based on New Jersey Rev stat, [music] some little thing to a 14-30 to 32 2016, a [music] spotter must be on residential property 30 years continuously containment uh adverse succession. So you seen the door was open for a long time, sir. A long time. >> Messiah had presented a notice of claim to officers. Under New Jersey law, adverse possession requires 30 years of continuous occupation for it to hold up. Meanwhile, Messiah admitted he had just recently arrived, falling decades short of a legal requirement. So, how did how did you get into that? >> It doesn't I don't want to speak no more because I explain to everybody listen real simple. [music] Don't explain it. That's fine. You go in that house, I'm going to lock you up for burglary. >> For burglary? [music] >> Yep. >> Are you serious? >> 100%. >> Okay. Well, that's what we going to have to do then. This is adverse in this house. >> You can't lock me up. You don't have no jurisdiction, sir. I have all this trust. Do you know what trust is, sir? >> Don't need to. >> Okay. >> Don't need to. I need to serve you with this fee schedule. >> No, you're not going in there to get >> Okay. I'm going to come back. Well, I'm going to go in there and get my stuff. >> Yes, I am. >> You're going to get locked up. >> Well, you're going to do what you're going to do. You're going to do what you're going to do. And I'm going to do what I'm going to do. >> You're going to do what you're going to do and I'm going to do what I'm going to do. Period. Stop talking to me. Stop talking to me. >> All right. Stop talking to me. [music] >> Property. >> Take me off the property. I will for trust. >> Okay. All right. Messiah served the officers a fee schedule, which is a bogus document listing exorbitant fees sovereign citizens demand to be paid if an officer interacts with them. It holds zero legal standing and courts universally deem fee schedules as nonsense. >> Do that right now. No, I'm not. Are you trust >> Emily? This is I'm telling you locking up a living being. Take that. >> Okay. >> Do you want me? >> Just grab my phone. Yeah. I'm not your stuff. Don't worry. [music] >> Burglary. >> Burglary. >> For what? >> Yeah. >> Burglary. >> You want me to give it to her? >> You want to have your phone? >> Where his keys at? >> In the car. Why am I under arrest for burglary? >> Wait, why is why are these so tight on my wrist, sir? >> I'll I'll loosen them up in a second. and put your hands on your back. >> But I didn't do anything wrong. >> Oh, yeah. >> No, I didn't. I I didn't DO ANYTHING. OW. WHY DID YOU DO THAT even tighter >> around? >> Why is he hurting me even? Why is he hurting me more? >> I didn't even do anything. I didn't do anything and he's hurting me more. >> Both Messiah and her partner Emily Johnson were charged with burglary, theft, and criminal trespass. And the property was returned to the family. Their court date was set for May 7th, 2024. [music] And it turned out Messiah was a repeat offender, having previously tried to take over a $3 million mansion. [music] On December 19th, 2024, officers in Ohio were called after two daughters went to check on their elderly mother, who was suffering from dementia. But after arriving, the family members were met with a disturbing sight, finding complete strangers living in their mother's home. >> I don't know how they got in there. Your mother let us my my mom has a a slight case of dementia >> and I need some help. >> Please help my daughter. >> My mother is a 87 year old woman with dementia. Y'all probably >> officers have been dealing with her for the last >> Hey, you ain't you're not going back in there. They said >> because you gave you a heart. >> She running us around. >> Well, she's not allowed to. and they're in charge of the house. >> WE ARE IN CHARGE of the house. >> Prove it. And she her hands on me, jerk me out of >> the daughter explained that her friend Dennis had been helping care for her mother. When he arrived the night before, he found the two strangers upstairs asleep in her bedroom. And as officers investigated more, they realized they already knew one of the suspects, Stephanie. >> Let me tell you something. That's all it is. >> I've been here for a week since >> Yes, I have. I've been cleaning and cooking for her. >> No, you haven't. >> Yes, I have. >> Girl, we just got we yesterday. >> What time? >> Listen, they check on their mother. >> No, they haven't been here. >> Yes, sir. Cuz I've been here. >> They haven't been here. >> I don't been here. >> I've been here before and you were not here. >> Call the sergeant out here because he knows I talked to the other day. Look, she come in and me up out of that chair. >> Okay. But you don't live here. >> Put her hands She ain't allowed to put her hands on me. >> You don't live here. chain up and put her hand. I did not. And you >> grabbed me. >> If I did, you wouldn't been in that chair. >> If I grabbed you, you truly would not have been in that chair. >> Yes, I do. >> Their mother lives here. >> Mhm. Mike lives up here and Dennis lives here in the attic, too. [music] >> Dennis does not live here. >> Yes, he does. His stuff's on here. >> They're They're the caretakers for her. And >> they've been We've been here before for people moving in. Who do you give permission? >> Huh? >> Who' you give permission to? >> They were here. >> What's her name? Mama. What's her name? >> She don't even know him. >> She couldn't tell you name. >> She don't know this happened before. >> She got a guy here that we getting ready to get him out of here, too. >> He tells them they can come. >> It sounded as though the house had been used as a homeless shelter, which made the situation even more distressing given that the 87year-old woman was living there the entire time. Her daughters said she had dementia, raising questions about why she had been living alone in the first place. >> You really need to get out some days, right? >> What's your name? >> She could go to jail for putting her hand in kicked herself. >> No, I did not. >> We'll do a report for you. How's that? >> No, you >> I was sound asleep and they come in and woke me up out of bed screaming at me. I come downstairs and she jerked me out of the chair and said, "Get out." >> I jerked you out that chair. Yes, you did. chair. You was just sitting here. >> And then and then when you told me to come here [music] and tell her that that that where you were when you were going to jail, >> she said she didn't know you. >> She don't know. >> She did. I I came here. I as I did what you asked me to do and she said she didn't know you. That you just she just stopped in and visit. >> Okay. She's And you're saying she's saying that you kicked her. >> I didn't until after she graduated. >> We were we were not here. You have to put yourself. This is my house. That is her house. >> Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. >> This is my house in my house. >> I know. I know. And your daughters are are caring for you. >> No, they my daughters ain't for me. >> Okay. [music] >> They ain't done a damn thing for me. >> That's why we always doing nothing for you. >> And then you going to come and throw the people out. I took I gave permission to stay in my household. >> Stephanie and her partner had clearly taken advantage of the elderly woman who was not in the right mind to allow them to stay in her home. Her daughters were trying to help her, but due to her dementia, she struggled to recognize that. >> Well, I need a safety check. I need these people to stay. >> You're probably going to Do you have power attorney? >> I do. You do have power to do. Yes, I do. Where she getting it from? >> Where you getting it from? The court. >> Okay. Yeah. >> All right. So, you have all you have all that. >> She don't. No, she don't. >> Crazy. >> This is my house. >> Hey, hold on. >> Tanya, stop. >> Tanya, stop. >> Why? >> Because you're not free to leave. >> Why? >> Because right now we're conducting I didn't do anything. >> You're saying that she assaulted you? >> She did assault me. You can see that she assaulted me and you guys ain't doing anything to her. >> Come over here and sit down. >> You ain't doing >> I'm going to put you in handcuffs and have you sit in the car. >> Stephanie's entitlement was really quite something. Finding a stranger asleep in your 87year-old mother's house who suffers from dementia is not only shocking, it's completely terrifying. But for some reason, Stephanie thought the officers should arrest her daughter for waking her up. Nobody's doing anything about her jerking me out of that chair. [music] >> This This is not right. Can you >> They need to move that stuff. >> Well, this time do we got to give them to get that off my mama. >> Well, it's on the curb now. So, they they Yeah, it's off your property and they can leave it there for the trash or they could take it with them. >> Then I So, I got to get out of your out of my house. >> You don't have to go anywhere. M. Just >> you going to run yourself out cuz you keep letting somebody in here to >> keep making police reports cuz we're going to keep coming and No, we're not going to come. We going to eliminate this. >> Night ain't this is done. I said what? I'm I'm just saying in general my house. Why would I let homeless people in my house? I don't know. >> You ain't how you how it get to be your house. >> She's not speaking of this residence in general. Nobody would normally do that is what she's trying to say. >> You don't let people in your house. >> I'm not the owner of this place. >> But you're not in control of some things, mother. >> There's nothing. >> Why don't you go in the house and position? >> Why don't you get away from me and leave me alone? >> I will and leave my people. >> I can't leave you alone. You didn't leave me alone. The Summit County Court had granted the daughters the power of attorney, meaning they were legally responsible for the property and authorized to make decisions on their mother's behalf. So, even if she did tell the pair they could stay, it ultimately carried no legal weight. >> They have power of attorney. I saw the legal papers. You guys are not allowed to be here. >> Okay, let's go. >> I don't have a problem. I didn't have a problem leaving if she wouldn't put her hands on me. I wouldn't have had a problem leaving if she wouldn't put her hands on me. >> She put her hands on me and jerked me out. >> Did you get your warrant stuff taken care of? >> Yes. A long time ago. >> Well, it wasn't that long ago. It was like a few weeks ago. >> A few weeks before, the same officer suspected he had arrested Stephanie at that same house. But they searched the ID that she had given them in the police database and found a different photo came up that wasn't her. Her name in fact wasn't Tina like she claimed. >> Oh, you know what? I take that back. Hold on. It was >> No, I take that back. It was a different It was a different uh homeless. Yeah, that's >> it's possible. She don't have any teeth [music] in. So, >> that's not hers. >> No, that picture's not coming back to you. >> All right. Why not? >> Hands behind your back. >> What do you mean? >> Drop your purse. >> Drop your purse. >> You gave us in somebody else's picture. So, who are you really? I'm telling you, >> where is your ID in here? >> We're going to take you down to the station. We're going to do the dig. >> Oh my god. Are you kidding me? >> The driver's license picture doesn't hands on me. >> Is your ID in here? >> I don't have an ID. >> Do you have anything with your [music] name on it? >> I don't. >> You were off by a decade on your age. >> No, I was your birthday >> because I was in a coma. >> You don't lose You don't forget that. >> Yes, you do. You for I forgot my whole life. Officers searched her bag and found a food stamp card with her real name on it. Initially, she claimed it belonged to her sister before the officer told her it was a felony to possess someone else's food stamp card. After that, she came clean. >> That this is you, Stephanie. You got warrants? >> Yes. >> I had seizure last time. They put me in jail, please. >> What's your warrant for? Hiding me. >> Hold on. I'm going to stay down here so I can open the door. I just told you I was in Oh my. >> Ah, that's her. >> All right. Well, >> oh, she admitted it >> finally. >> Yeah. I'm going to have to go to the hospital. I just took a whole [music] bunch of Xanax >> when >> about a half hour ago. >> We'll see. >> How much Xanax? >> About 15 logs. >> Why? >> Because I wanted them. You can have drug per on there, too. >> Why? >> Cuz you have drug par. >> I do not. >> You see that? >> I do not. That is not mine. >> That is not mine. >> It's in your purse. >> That is That old That black lady put that in there. In the end, Stephanie was arrested and charged with misrepresenting identity, drug paraphernalia, and violation of a protection order since officers found out the man she was with had a restraining order against her. Meanwhile, the man was allowed to walk free. On April 3rd, 2026, officers were dispatched to a residence after neighbors spotted an unfamiliar man hanging around outside a home. They believe the suspect was possibly a squatter. >> Hi there. How y'all doing? Good. Who are you? >> Um, I came by. I seen this house is vacant and I need it need needs work. I'm an electrician, 11 year electrician and I'm a construction guy. So, I've seen that this place needed work and since then I've been trying to contact the owner. >> Today, this guy shows up with the bank and he's looking to buy it. So, I've been trying to talk to him about um helping him out with the Florida Keys area. He's a um he does he fixes the houses. >> Uh-huh. Who opened the door? >> Um he did. He the bank. >> I was uh they told me the back door was open, but they were both open when I was here last night. >> Okay. Have you been inside yet? >> Yes, >> you have. Okay. The man who claimed he was an electrician, Zach, told officers he had simply strolled past the house when he noticed it supposedly needed maintenance work, but he had no reason to loiter there. So, it immediately raised red flags for the officers. >> So, why am I getting reports that you were inside the residence and you're not authorized to me? >> Yesterday, um when I stopped by, I looked out back to see the the deck. So, I've seen all this. >> Stop. Stay against the carpets. >> I seen all this needs work. I looked out back and I noticed the deck needs [music] work and that's what I do. So, um, and the I noticed the door was unlocked. So, I opened it just to check out the house, hoping, like I said, hoping it needs work, hoping that I can get on a crew or get to work. >> Okay. Let me ask you something. Do you think that it's normal for you to go on somebody else's property [music] and wander around and open doors and go inside someone's property that you don't have permission to be on or know who owns the property? >> No, man. That's what I was trying to figure out. Um, I looked up online public. >> Sound pretty reasonable, right? >> So, and you didn't just come here one day to do that because we've gotten numerous complaints from the neighbors watching you climb through a window. [music] >> Okay. To gain access into the home. So, why don't we start over and we start with the honesty part of it. Okay. Because I can tell you right now, it's not legal for you to do what you did. [music] Okay? At the very least, it's trespassing. At the very most, it's a burger. >> Zach told officers he had been staying in between locals houses while in the area. But officers had every reason to be suspicious of this claim since they'd received several calls from the neighbors, insisting they'd seen him crawling through windows into the house for the past few days. >> Asked the neighbor yesterday whose house it was, told him that I was interested in fixing up, fixing it up, and I was looking for the person who owned it. >> But that [music] doesn't give you permission to be on the property. Okay, this has been happening now for multiple days and multiple calls, which means that you didn't just come here once trying to see, okay, this property is vacant. Let me make an effort to find the owner. That means you've continued to come onto this property that you're not authorized to be on and inside the property. >> Hoping to find the owner. Yes, ma'am. I did put some things in there so my car wasn't all heavy. I put my hamper in there. >> So, you you put stuff in here? >> Yeah. Yes, ma'am. Yes, sir. Well, it won't happen again. >> Okay. So, you weren't here for the purpose of repairing anything. you were here because you were probably going to >> hang out and spend time here until somebody showed up to tell you to get out. >> One officer conducted a search of Zach and asked if he had any sharp objects on him, which he denied. However, she immediately found a pocketk knife in his pocket. The other officer searched through the belongings he'd left in the house. >> Everything in this bag is yours. This passage is yours, sir. >> What's this? >> Uh, weed from the dispensary. It's our It's our favorite scent beads. >> So, weed from the dispatch. You have medical marijuana cards? >> Yes. No, I do not. You do not. [snorts] >> That is the scent beads. >> Is there anything else illegal in here? Yes, sir. >> Dude, you're us. All right. >> Oh, man. I could explain that. >> Yeah. Go ahead. >> Walk in there. I went to check out the house. >> I opened up a cupboard. There's some stuff in it. I didn't think about if I call you guys. >> You remember me asking you everything in that was yours? >> Yes, sir. But >> Yes, sir. >> Do me a favor. Don't do anything stupid. >> I'm not I'm not a stupid guy. I'm a smart guy. That's, you know, why this is happening. >> So, I'm going to test this and what's it going to be? I >> I don't know what it is, honestly. I don't know to to the truth. I don't know what it is. Go >> ahead. I'll I'll do it. I have a multi. >> Yeah, I have a multi in the back. >> Um I would just >> f turn around. I'm just going to detain. >> Copy. Another one. Come on, man. And then there's other kits in here, too, if we need to get more specific. >> All right, I'm just going to [music] start this one with the multi and we'll see what they got. >> The officer found that the drugs were not marijuana like he claimed. Instead, they tested positive for methamphetamine and cocaine. Meanwhile, the second tub also tested positive for methamphetamine. Zach insisted he just found them inside the house. >> There'll be a camera recording the entire time, audio and visual. Get the other foot in. >> There's a little crease here. >> There you go. See that? >> Zach, how you doing? >> How you doing today? >> Um, quick question. >> Good. >> You're a meth user? >> No. >> You're not a meth? >> I'm not. No. >> Have you ever used it before? Like you just don't use it regularly? >> I have one time when I was 16. Zach claimed he had found the methamphetamine inside a cupboard in the house. It was an implausible story, raising further doubts, especially since officers had already searched the cupboards and found no trace of drugs. Something told me to open up the cupboard and I opened up the cupboard and that's what [music] it was. Two bricks of whatever the hell that stuff is. At first, I thought there were rocks [music] and I was like, man, that's not a rock. Initially, I dropped it and I was like, man. And somehow I talked myself into just grabbing some of it and leaving it [music] because I don't want you know someone it could be somebody's. Yeah. >> Anything else in that basket I need to know about? >> No. Nothing in the basket. No. >> What about in your car? >> There's an Advil bottle with something in it too. [music] >> Same same stuff. >> Same stuff here. Center console. >> And you got that from the same area? >> Same spot. Yeah. Same thing. [music] >> What's the scale for? I got that in Miami. >> He's straight. >> I mean, I got it for for weed. I mean, I wasn't planning on selling it. Nothing like that. Just uh like >> You have any weed in the car? >> When someone No, I got no weed in the car. >> Trunk or anywhere? [music] >> Nohere. I have no weed in the car. >> In the end, Zach was arrested and charged with two misdemeanor trespassing offenses. The case is still pending. Despite officers finding drugs at the scene that were in his possession, the arrest report only mentioned trespassing. [music] On November 2nd, 2025, officers were called to a residence after the homeowner reported a woman refusing to leave his property. What made the situation even more concerning was that she was already known to police and had been involved in a similar incident in the past. cat just showed up on my house. She's won't leave the property. I've asked her numerous times to exit my property and leave. She's looking in my windows. Take her away. She has no business here. Oh, now she's going to leave. She's She's been on my property without the I want her gone. Take her out of here. >> What? You want to trespass? >> I want to trespass. I want arrested. >> I wasn't trespassing. >> I've asked her 10 times to leave my property. >> I do it over there talking to the kite. What dude are you talking to? >> ID on you, man. >> I don't have to have ID. I did not do anything. So, >> it's been all day with you. All day. >> Oh, you got debt. >> Yeah, all day. >> Hey, we can come to an agreement. >> No, no, no. The agreement is the come to an agreement right now. >> No, that works. >> Sorry. I thought by the car. No, there's no not allowed to do that. >> Who we are? >> I know my >> conducting investigation of a trespass. >> You're not allowed to leave. >> Thank you, officer. >> The homeowner told officers she'd crossed onto his private property, even though there were signs put up that said no trespassing. He asked her to leave multiple times, noting he believed she was under the influence of drugs. When she wouldn't leave, he called the cops. >> Oh. Oh, what? You >> That's not nice. >> You You're me. You're nasty. >> Come near my house again. >> You're nasty. And you're mad because you're probably secretly dangerous other than being gay. So I don't understand. >> If she comes near my property, I've got cameras. If she comes near my property again, I will press charges. >> You're not allowed to go to my personal trespassing right now. Yes, I am. >> I will sue you. Can you stop? I will sue you. >> I asked her nicely to leave. I said, "Please, you're not allowed to go through my stuff." >> She's refused. She's looking in my looking in my window. >> I don't want her looking in the windows. [music] Yeah, >> I know there's a bunch of kids around here. >> Okay, >> wait. Get your weed, bro. >> I'll take it off. [snorts] >> Fix my way. >> How long have you been out here? >> I haven't been out here. >> How long have you been out here working? >> I haven't been out here working. >> Yes, you are. How long? >> I don't even have been here today. >> Where are you from? You're not allowed to go through my purse. >> Stop. >> Where are you from? >> You're not allowed to do that. You're going to get sued. >> You're going to get sued. I just have a bunch of money. >> You got a lot of $1 bills in here. >> Hey, are you going to let them arrest me? Hey, I thought you were my friend. >> What's your name? >> My name is Kylo. >> Stay facing that way. What's your name? >> My name is Kylo. >> Kylo. Yes, ma'am. >> I have a lot of family and friends. >> Okay. Yum. >> Her behavior was erratic and immature, almost childlike. They quickly raised suspicions among officers that she may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Eventually, they managed to obtain her full name, which they could run through the police database. >> You me on. I need you to stop touching me. >> Let's put her in the car. >> No, please. I know. I >> No. Can I have my link? >> You >> get in the car. >> My seat. >> Yep. All the way in. >> All the way. >> Me on. >> No. Put your feet down before we hobble you. >> All right. >> Get in the car. >> In. In. All the way in. Thank you. >> Just lean. >> All the way in. >> Why don't you have to give me my wig, please? >> All right. We have one, two, three, four. >> Charlie Yankee India. >> I love myself, but I love myself. >> She was a repeat offender just 8 months before in West Palm Beach. She'd broken into a family's trailer parked on their property. Officers arrested her and she was charged with burglary and petty theft after going into the resident's house and eating ice cream from the fridge. >> Hello. >> Hello. >> How you doing? >> I'm all right. Good. Are you going in here? >> Um, I'm supposed to be renting the dog. >> Oh, you're renting. Okay. From who? >> Um, I didn't have any paperwork or anything. I was just online. >> I don't know her. >> Okay. >> I get that. She does not know us. I get that. >> She clearly hadn't learned from the last time. And by this point, it was starting to look less like a one-off mistake and more like a pattern of behavior. Meanwhile, officers ran the name she gave in the system and it didn't return anything. >> You heard she gave a big name. >> Oh, you're out of jail. >> Don't talk. But yeah, >> in your own words, tell me what happened, please. >> I looked out the window, saw this person rubbing up against my worker detailing my car and said, "Hey, who's your friend?" you you're not my friend. [music] So I said, "Ma'am, you need to go." You know, I said, "Who are you? What are you doing?" She's flirting and being whatever. And I asked her to leave. >> Okay. >> Explain to me what happened after after you said that you would call the police. [music] >> She proceeded to dance around looking in the windows like she was looking at herself, pining, and just being kooky. And uh you know, I asked her politely again, "Please leave." You know, and she's like, "You don't have to be mean to me." Yeah, I'm like, I'm not being mean. I'm asking you to leave. >> When officers searched her bag, they found paraphernalia of a controlled substance, aiding further weight to their suspicions about her behavior possibly caused by drug use. >> Oh, you're on that side. How'd you end up over there? >> Scooch back over here, please. I'm going to put your seatelt on. >> Get out of my way. >> Nope. Scooch over here, please. >> Y'all are trying to embarrass me. Okay. >> No, I'm not. Scoot over here, please. >> No, Ash. I was just >> Yep. >> that way. [laughter] After she was arrested and securely placed in the back of the patrol car, the officer drove her to the station. What I'm going to do is I'm going to bring you into in there. I'm going to take the handcuffs off and you'll be able to fix yourself. Okay. >> All right. My leg. >> Come on. >> Oh, my leg. >> Stand over there. Did it break? [music] How does it How does this fix? >> Stop. I have a pet kid. She loves to eat food. >> Take your rings off, please. [snorts] >> Take it off, please. Place it on the chair. >> With other people, >> keep your pants on. Do you have any more rings? Do you have earrings? Anything like that? Do you have any other piercings I need to know about? Do you have anything stashed in your anything in your in in your anything like that that I have to have a female officer come check you? Anything that you have stashed will be an extra charge once we get to county. Do you understand? >> I'm not going to charge me. >> Please. No. Leave that there. >> Go into the room, please. >> Do you need anything? Do you want water? >> Yeah. >> You want water? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Do me a favor. Just go have a seat and I'll get you water shortly. Okay. >> Okay. But I have I want my wig. >> You can't have your wig right now. No one's going to see you. Go have a seat, please. >> No one can have it. Oh, please. What are you doing out there? I said sit. [music] >> Sit. Please. >> Thank you. >> What? >> Try not to beat me. >> I can't I can't give you your wood bag. It's part of your property. It has to stay with everything else. I will give it back to you once we get once we get to when we get to county. I will give it back to you. Okay. Huh? No, it doesn't look that bad. I promise. I've seen a lot worse. Go have a seat, please. >> In the end, she was taken to the county jail and charged with trespass after warning and possession of drug paraphernalia. At the first appearance, bond was set at $12,000, but it wasn't posted. On December 22nd, 2025, she entered a guilty plea on all three charges and was sentenced to 51 days in jail and her driver's license was revoked for 6 months. [music] On March 13th, 2026, officers for the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office were called to a home after the homeowner reported a squatter on their property. >> It's wide open. [music] Sheriff's office. [music] Sheriff's office, can you come out? [music] [music] [music] Sheriff's office. [music] Who's in here? Sheriff's office. [music] Who's in here? Sheriff's office. >> [music] >> The house was clearly in a poor state of disrepair and had not been properly maintained for some time. It looked neglected and was beginning to fall apart. Come on. Thank you. >> Show me your hands. Show me your hands. Come out. >> Show me your [music] hands. Come out. >> Who? What? >> The sheriff's office. >> Who? >> You're trespassing. Is it just you in here? >> I've had permission to be here. >> By who? >> By. >> Who's Anna? >> Is she the owner? Um, I think she's watching over the house. >> She's watching over the house? >> Yeah. >> Is she home right now? >> We can check. >> Okay. Well, we're going to need you to come down with us. How come you weren't answering us when you heard us? >> No, you weren't. You just didn't want to come out. >> I didn't know you were here. I have no reason to. >> Do you have an ID with you? >> No. >> Who's staying here with you? That's it. >> Yeah. >> Nobody else. >> Where are you from? >> Are you from this area or >> No, I'm asking you. I'm asking No, but I'm asking where you're from. >> I've been living here for over a year. >> The suspect, Britney, claimed that a neighbor named Anna gave her permission to stay in the house. Anna was supposedly tasked by the homeowner to watch over the house. Officers quickly learned that Britney had been living in the house a couple of weeks. >> He said that I can stay. >> Okay, I'll go talk to her. Which house? The other house? >> No, you you stay here. Well, which house is it? Is it the trailer or is it the other house? >> Trailer was here parked for >> Okay, where does Anna live? >> A week or two. >> Where does Anna live? The trailer or the house? >> The house. >> Okay, just stay right here. Sheriff's office. Is there an Anna that lives here? >> Yeah. Can we talk to her >> this morning? >> What's that? >> This morning I asked >> No, no, no. Can we talk to Can I talk to her? >> Oh, can you? >> Yeah, because I guess she allowed somebody to stay in the house and we're just trying to figure out who that person is. Do you know if anyone's living in that little two-story abandoned house, >> the old uh terracotta color? >> Yeah. Do you live here? >> I live in the apartment connected to the house. >> Okay. And Anna is who to you? >> My mother. >> Okay. Can we talk to Can I talk to her? >> Yeah, let me grab her. [music] So, what's your name? >> I I want to wait. >> You need to tell me your name or you're going to go to jail. >> Britney, can I say >> Britney? What? >> Can I sit please? >> Britney. What? >> Britney. >> What's your last name? >> Colon. >> How do you spell that? >> F A L I N. >> F A L L I N. What's your date of birth? >> Can I please sit? >> What's your date of birth? >> Can I please sit? You need to identify yourself. What's your >> day? I've been told I was auditioning. >> Go ahead and sit on the concrete >> and I have had no problems. Can you notice me? [music] No reason why. >> Okay. Well, we we got to verify cuz we got a call from the owner saying that somebody's here that should be. >> Okay. >> Eventually, Britney told officers her name after refusing first, but she still wouldn't reveal her date of birth. Her reluctance was suspicious and raised red flags about whether she was hiding her identity for a reason. What's your date of birth? >> What's your date of birth? >> I can't. Hold on. >> Okay. I have a reason to be here. Okay. If you don't identify yourself, you are going to go to jail. You understand? >> Yes, I do. Cuz >> So, what's your date of birth now? >> I am not able to access it right now. >> Why not? >> Because I'm freaked out. I've asked I've asked every neighbor. >> Okay. So, clearly you're doing something you shouldn't be doing because you're not willing to talk to me. >> Literally ask them. >> You need to you need to give me your date of birth present. >> Okay. Why is that? Because you freak me out. >> Because you're doing something you shouldn't be doing. >> I'm not. I don't do illegal. >> I don't do illegal things. >> Okay, then you shouldn't have a problem talking to me. >> I am not able to get my nervous system to calm down right now. >> I'm Gabriel at the sheriff's office. Are you Anna? >> Yes. >> Okay. Reason why I'm out here is because we got a call from the owner of that little two-story house right there on uh I guess it's B. Um called us and said that somebody was living in that house and they didn't want anybody in there. So, we found somebody in there, but the female said that you allowed her to stay there. >> I told her she could hang out there because she's waiting to get some kind of housing. >> Okay. >> And the people that she was around in Madrid and I guess uh they're encroaching in her bubble and she's schizophrenic. >> Okay. >> And I was like, well, just, you know, >> how do you know her? >> Um, she came to the house. She just randomly showed up. Okay. So, other than that, you didn't know her before? No. >> Okay. And then she just asked for help. >> Yeah. >> Officers had found a lot of Britney's items in the house, which she had been slowly moving in over the past couple of weeks. Anna, who was a social worker, have been helping Britney, who had nowhere else to go. Providing some temporary shelter wouldn't have been an issue. But Anna wasn't the legal owner of the home. >> Whatever trauma she's been through, plus I believe she's schizophrenic. So, does the owner know that somebody's living in there or that you allowed somebody to live there? >> Well, it own the owner. She's the owner. >> Okay. I'm not sure who called, but somebody called saying that they're the owner. >> Yeah. Uh >> the Luna is her daughter and uh the other daughter. >> But do they know that you allowed somebody to stay there? Is my question. >> No, she said I told her I'm going to use the lab. Well, >> are you just watching it? Is that Is that what it is? I've always watched the property. >> I get it, but it's not your property. That's what I'm trying to get at. >> Yeah. Okay. >> Even though the property had been empty for some time, Anna didn't own it and therefore didn't have the right to allow someone else to live in it. It may have been kind that she'd been trying to help Britney out, but it just caused her more issues. >> Anything else? >> She's given me two different names. She won't give me her DB. She says she doesn't know it. It won't even give me her age. See that? >> I even told her like she needs to identify herself or else she will be arrested. >> Yeah, cuz right now you're facing trespassing charges and then >> How old are you? >> I don't know. I know. I know range, but right now it's it's [music] don't want to get this because then it's then it's I don't need to do that right now. >> You do need to do that because you're going to make it worse. We're doing our investigation which is leading to us just releasing you, documenting the incident, meaning you get to go on your way. But that only happens if we identify you. >> But hold on. But because you're not identifying now, we're going to have to go to plan B. And that means that you're going to get arrested for concealing because you don't give us a date. >> I don't have the information. >> How do you not have the information when it's your own? >> I've had a lot of traumatizing [music] experiences in the last few years. Britney claims she didn't know her own birthday, though she insisted she was 25 years old. In cases where a suspect refuses to identify themselves, officers can bring them to the station and confirm identity through fingerprints. Officers suspected she had warrants, which would explain her refusal to identify herself. >> Well, I mean, you're not the property owner, so we're going to call whoever called [music] and verify if they're the property owner. If they are, we're going to trespass her. Okay, that's what's going to happen. And then if again I'm going to let you know right now you're not going to get any charges but you cannot allow somebody to stay at or on a property that does not belong to you. >> Well, no I understand. Uh but it was just so she could [music] >> I get it. It doesn't matter. And at that point you you give her a place in your home or somebody else's home if that's what you're if you're concerned. But I'm letting you know you can't allow somebody to stay on somebody's property. Okay. No, you're good to go. >> So sorry, Anna. >> Okay. Put the rocks down. Put your hands behind your back. >> I identified myself. >> No, you haven't. >> I did. Back. >> You're being detained because there's serious warrants. >> Yeah, we're trying. We're trying to find Stop. >> I identified myself and they're still arresting me. No, you haven't. >> I didn't. I don't know my social security number. They don't I don't have that. I identified >> and I told you I'm detaining you because we have serious warrants >> that are possibly in your name. We need to confirm the failure to appear. One was felony possession of of uh drugs, resisting evading obstructing an officer. >> I seems like you're doing all that today. Criminal trespass. asked you to give me information as to what I can do to help you. >> And the warrant even says you have green eyes. What you do? >> In the end, Britney, who was 35 and not 25 like she claimed, was arrested and charged with criminal trespassing and concealing her identity. Meanwhile, her outstanding warrants were dealt with at the station. In the end, every one of these squatters acted as though they were the victims. They argued, moaned, and treated homeowners like they were the intruders. But their entitlement and refusal to cooperate only made things far worse when cops had had enough of them.
