I'm not losing something. Promise me if I don't see sister, then me. >> I don't know what to do. I don't know what to do. I don't know what to do. >> [laughter] >> Just don't shoot. I'm in shock. >> Okay. Can you do that now for me, please? >> A B C D E F G H I X Y and Z. Um X G Excuse me. Sorry, officer. I'm not remembering. >> Everybody has secrets, even men of faith. Secrets like full misconduct, fraud, and even But when the skeletons in their closets finally get exposed by cops, [music] these pastors' sick secret ends in shocking arrest. >> Come out! >> COME OUT! >> ALL THE WAY THROUGH. >> YOU GUYS BROUGHT EVERY SINGLE PERSON OUT, HUH? >> Not everybody. >> I mean, I'd love to know. I mean, I think transparency both ways helps. >> On April 18th, 2025, a task force from the Licking County Sheriff's Office moved in on a family home in Johnstown, Ohio. They were looking for 36-year-old leader Gary Thomas Key Jr., a pastor at a Faith Life mega-church his parents had built. >> What's his name? >> Hands on the table. >> We're going in. >> Don't make me shoot. >> Open up. >> Sheriff's office! >> Sheriff's office! >> We're going to go hands on her. >> COME OUT YOURSELF! >> MA'AM, >> GET BACK here first. >> SHERIFF'S OFFICE, COME TO THE DOOR! >> COME OUT! >> COME HERE! >> COME OUT! >> COME HERE! >> MA'AM, >> COME HERE! >> MA'AM, >> HEY, I'M NOT HANDS ON HER. >> COME OUT! >> COME HERE! >> COME HERE! >> COME OUT! >> COME OUT! >> ALL THE WAY THROUGH. ALL >> EASY. TAKE IT EASY. >> WE'RE GOOD. >> WHAT HAPPENED? >> You're being placed under arrest right now. >> Okay. >> You got your guns on you or anything like that? >> I don't have anything on me now. >> Tom, is there anybody else in the house? >> No one. >> All right. You're good. >> Where's your phone at? >> All right. >> In your pocket? >> Okay. >> All right, Tom. You can come with me. >> Um we got one car rolling up now. >> In late 2024, ex-members of the church started speaking on social media about alleged child abuse perpetrated by the senior members of the congregation, including Gary Jr. But the investigation against him did not begin until the police [music] was contacted by no other than his own sister. >> I'm Captain Moore of the Sheriff's Office. I'm one of the ones that's been part of the investigation. >> Okay. >> All right. You're being arrested right now. We have two F1 warrants for against you, okay? So, we're going to walk you over to that car right there. >> Yeah. >> Um we'll get you some shoes. We'll get you back to our office. Um you'll have an opportunity to sit down and >> I'm I'm going to >> That's fine. Separate your feet. >> Yep. You just brought every single person out, huh? Brought out the >> boys. >> I don't see Chris. >> These cops, you want to switch out? >> Our kids [music] are >> No, they're fine. >> Hold on. We're going back to >> We're going back to our office. >> Just have a seat in there. Just It's a tight squeeze, so and then we'll snag your shoes. >> This is a warrant for your arrest, okay? You're going to be locked up on This warrant's for two um F1 felonies. Okay. I'd love to sit and talk with you. Can we? Do you want to go upstairs and talk right now? >> I would love to talk to you. >> Let's go. >> I I said I'd come in, you know, listen I'll um I mean I got to wait for my my attorney's probably on his way, but >> When he comes we'll talk to you about that. We're not your attorney. >> Um I mean it's not smart for me to do, but I I I mean I'm confident this is ridiculous. You know what I mean? >> The Keys were a well-known family that ran a religious business empire, and the church his parents founded in the '90s had grown to draw thousands of people to a single service. And even though he knew better, Gary Jr. in his vanity decided to speak to the police [music] without his attorney present. >> I mean I'd love to know. I mean I think transparency both ways helps. >> I'd like to just figure out kind of what, you know, you and I can talk and just figure out how we got to this point right now. >> Oh, absolutely. So, do you want to take that for him and then he can have it when he gets to the jail? >> Mhm. >> Um So, let me try to reach out and we'll see if I can get a hold of >> I think he's on his way, but I don't know if I can put him on speaker phone or [music] something like >> Uh uh. >> I know he can meet you at your office, right? >> Yeah, I don't know how it works. >> We'll just go to the police station [clears throat] or something like that. >> Um yeah, I'd much rather him be here. >> Okay. >> All right. >> Yeah. Well, I don't know if someone can find out where he's at or >> Yeah, I'll I'll make some phone calls. >> Okay. >> [music] >> All right. Um Did he have any personal belongings on him? >> His phone's in the car. >> His phone's in the car. Um [music] >> Do you mind just logging it in >> Mhm. >> here on this side? >> Nope. >> [music] >> And then yeah, I'll let you know. We'll try to figure it out. >> Yeah, I'm just trying to figure out options and what's going on. I don't just I mean I I >> [music] >> I was willing to talk to you. I was advised to wait because with everything going on everything [music] becomes a crazy public thing. >> He was obviously aware of his family's ties in society and what kind of disruption this scandal could create, but he still thought he could turn things around. So, he tried to shift the focus to [music] his sister's marital troubles. >> So, if I tell you my sister's being abused by her husband. If I tell you she lived with her her [music] parents for 3 months last year. >> Yeah. >> So, I'm just telling you that's the that's the back story >> the back story of all that stuff I already know. >> Yeah. >> I already know about that stuff. But, I think you know what I would like some questions. I have >> Yeah, I would like to know those I mean I I can answer your questions. >> Yeah, we'll get there. Let me get I'll try to figure out where Sam, right? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Let me figure that out. All right. All right. >> Intake and talk to them later. >> Yes. >> Um we did let Alexis know you'll be going through an intake process. Once you get through that, they'll get you like phone stuff set up and you you can reach out to her through the phone, stuff like that. [music] Cuz she was very concerned on where you want to be. >> Yeah. >> And they'll help you out over there. They'll get you set up and you'll be able to call her. >> Okay. >> [music] >> Um I don't know the process in terms of I didn't just like the classic thing where I don't have any underwear on. >> Nope. >> I was getting out the shower. >> Yeah, we'll we'll talk on the way. I'll I'll explain it all to you. >> Gary Jr. had no idea that the officers had conducted more than 40 interviews and that two more women came forward. Allegations [music] against Gary go as far back more than two decades with his sister claiming he had been sleeping her [music] since she was 6 years old. He was only 12 at the time. At his court appearance, Gary Jr.'s bond was set at $2 million. >> Your reaction to the bond obviously seems like the $5 million was a little high. >> $5 million was a little high, but $2 million is not what you call a walk in the park. >> [music] >> Um it's a very substantial sum. Um you know, I've been practicing in front of this judge for a long time. He's a total pro. And although I believe a recognizance bond [music] is appropriate, I also recognize the um attention that this case has garnered and the numerous allegations, numerous victims. So, it's a serious matter and we're taking it seriously. >> What have these last few days been like for >> [music] >> uh, Tom? >> Say that again? >> What have these last few days been like for Tom? >> what would they be like for anybody, you know? Snatched up, stuffed in the jail. >> [music] >> Um, but he remains uh, committed to the rule of law. He's got faith in this community to ferret out the facts at a trial, which is exactly where this case is going to be tried in Judge Wetzel's courtroom. So, uh, he's doing fine. >> The case was steeped in controversy since Gary's mom was a Knox County Commissioner overseeing the law enforcement budget. The Knox Sheriff's Office decided not to pursue the case due to a conflict of interest. [music] They passed it off to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations, which also had ties to the family. [music] >> How can it be tried here? You've got a sitting County Commissioner in this county as relative and somebody with interest. You had the Attorney General, which I guess isn't real germane to this case in this county, but still, how can this be tried here? >> Well, first of all, Judge Wetzel is above the fray. He, um, is not influenced by matters of politics. He's [music] He's beholden to the rule of law and he'll make sure that it's enforced. I mean, I I've been around him. He's a super fair jurist for both sides. I mean, [music] you know, we've all been in front of judges who who, for one reason or the other, may exhibit a sense of bias. Not this guy. He's a pro. He's solid. He doesn't care if uh, you know, my client's mother were the governor of the state. If he felt uncomfortable, >> [music] >> he would have stepped down. Mercifully, he's going to see the case through, I believe, because he's a fair-minded [music] jurist. >> You spoke up there about how he's not a flight risk, about his record, how >> He's not a flight risk. He has no record. Right. Right. [music] Those were Those were important points to emphasize because that's an important consideration for the court, right? How dangerous is this guy? You know, if I put him out on bail, is he going to go pillage the community? Is he going to hop in some jet and fly to points unknown? The answer to those questions is no, no, no. He's not going anywhere. We're here to fight this case cuz he's [music] wrongly accused. >> This could be jumping ahead. I know we just had the arraignment, but this is a small community. Are you worried about eventually finding a jury that hasn't heard about this case? >> My [music] experience, and I don't just practice in Columbus, is that jurors, once selected, follow the law. And if you follow the rules, you get the right result. [music] And so, I have no doubt that the citizens of this community can look through all the hoopla, all the BS, all the social media crap that's [music] been spewed, and look at the facts of the case. Have these charges been proved [music] beyond a reasonable doubt? That's the standard, and if the government's prepared to meet it, bring it on. >> The judge reduced [music] Gary Jr.'s bail to $1 million, and he walked out of jail after posting a $100,000 bond. He's facing a total of 27 counts of sexual >> [music] >> He has to report weekly to a probation officer. He also must wear a $1,500 electric monitoring device, >> [music] >> which he was required to pay for. The prosecutors believe there might be more victims out there. >> [music] >> In September of 2020, Barbara Tomey was shot and killed [music] outside the Orlando Credit Union where she worked. Not long after, the police arrested her estranged husband, Sylvester Ofori Anane, a self-proclaimed prophet. This is a video of Sylvester telling her family exactly what he intended to do, just 2 days before the shooting. >> You you are a pastor. You You don't know whether you are I'm not sure you are a pastor, my friend. We didn't come here for you. We did not come here for you. Don't let me Don't let me hurt you. Leave. We came here for We came to save her. Promise me you'll leave her alone, your sister. Then me, I am sick. You got the video, right? >> Yeah, I got it. >> I call the cops. >> No, IT'S NOT >> NO, CALL THE COPS. >> JEN >> NO. >> BOBBY, STOP THERE. >> TANYA You don't play with threats like this. Jen, I'm calling the cops. >> Where is he? >> No, no, no, no, you don't play with threats. Please, call the cops. It should escalate. He's threatening you in front of me. He said he's going TO KILL YOU. WHAT ARE you waiting for? What are you waiting for? >> All right, just make sure it's there so we can go. If that's it, let's go. Let's just get the hell out of here. >> Bobby, is it it? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Make sure you Let's get out of here. We ain't coming here no more, Bobby. You you You lost all this. >> You heard what he said? >> Is anything else you need to get? Bobby, we done. >> Whatever you want to get. >> Yeah, we done. Uh you lost all this. >> Barbara was reluctant to call the police, even though her family advised her to do so. Later that day, Sylvester went back to the apartment to pick up his 9-mm Tanfoglio, a handgun he had purchased earlier. But it was 2 days later that emergency units were suddenly called to the bank where Barbara worked. >> All right, step step away, step away, please. Check and see where she's hit. >> No pulse. >> See if we can get this roped off and get everybody out. Is it a perfect case? >> No, I can't say it's a perfect case. >> Hey, other units coming in. We need this place roped off right away. I got too many pedestrians and cars coming in. I need this place roped off on the back of this uh this credit union as well as east. I need this parking lot completely shut down. >> The suspect left now. Uh he's got into a red SUV vehicle. >> Watch the showcases. >> The suspect took something from the employee and that was possibly her husband. He may be in her vehicle with three people. >> It looks like she took one to the head. >> All right, so we're going to be primary on this one. Dispatch. I know. Somebody get chase man up. Here's where I'm going to shoot him. Uh Suspect left in a red Kia SUV towards John Young Parkway. >> It probably sounds like it may be domestic. Maybe a husband The husband may have done the shooting. >> When Barbara arrived at her workplace that day, she had no idea Sylvester was already there, waiting in a rented SUV. He approached [music] her casually, but the moment she tried to run into the bank, he hit her across the face with a gun and fired once. His gun jammed. He casually cleared the jam and proceeded to fire three more shots. >> It was weakening for sure, but I had one. >> Hey Ryan, did they witness this? >> Yes, I'm witnessing. >> Okay, perfect. Okay, do you know who it was? Did you see what he's wearing? >> And he came running out of the bank with the gun out. Uh-huh. >> Handgun? >> Handgun. >> Big handgun. Okay. Did you Did you see what he got into, or car? >> He had a black hat, black and white stripey shirt. He's also a black guy. >> Like >> He went that way. >> Like this? Looks like Does it look like that? That car like What's that? >> The witness statements did not corroborate as to the make of the car. Some claimed it was a Kia SUV, others said it was a Dodge, but they all said it was red. And their descriptions of the suspect matched those of her ex-husband. >> Awesome guy with a gun shooting her. >> Okay. >> And then uh I saw a red Kia >> Okay, can you hang out over here for me on the other side of this car? >> Uh I'm in that car there. I can't stand up very long. >> Red Dodge Durango? 100% like certain it was definitely a >> Yeah, cuz I saw him. I ran through here and I ran through there and he went northbound on Millennium Boulevard. >> Old old model Dodge Durango? Like the older one or a newer model like do would you say? >> It's the older model, not the newer ones now like 20 something, yeah. So it's the older model. Red, he's a black like he's a >> Do you have the name so we can look at the vehicle, the service vehicle? >> He's black, he's about over 6 ft tall. >> Seemed like they knew each other though? >> Well, yeah cuz she came out from the back cuz I was online. We were all online waiting to go in. She came out, went somewhere, went back and all of a sudden he came chasing her and that's where he shot her did the first shot. But I saw him. I've been here since about 7:40 something like that. And I saw him he drove by twice through here first. >> Okay. >> Sylvester was seen circling the bank likely trying to find a perfect spot. His behavior clearly showed this wasn't a spur of the moment thing but premeditated. After shooting her, he casually walked back to his car and drove off. >> Was anything said you know of or anything? >> No, he didn't say nothing. He Yeah, I thought it was not real because it didn't sound like a real gun but >> He cocked it and then like it jammed and then he cocked it a few more other times. >> Okay. >> She moved her car over here. >> And then she walked past and no, she was moving getting out of her car and when she walked back up the guy was behind her and he had he had [laughter] the gun. >> So the guy where did he come from? >> He came from behind the building on the side of the building. >> So from the Costco side? >> Yeah. >> Where was she in relation to him? >> She was walking >> walking this way? >> right in front of him. >> So she's walking this way? >> She's walking back this way and he's behind her and her back was turned? >> a gun out. >> Okay. >> I don't know if he she he made her come back. I don't know cuz I I turned my back. >> know if they came here together? >> No. >> No? >> No. >> So she went in the bank, came back out. >> Yeah. >> When she parks her car somewhere else, she's coming back into the bank. Uh no, but she if Are you able to write right now? >> Just give me a minute. >> Just give you a minute, okay. So she saw the whole thing, okay. >> Detectives pulled the bank surveillance footage. They confirmed what the witness had described and gave them a clear image of the shooter, positively identifying him as Sylvester Anani Ofori. With the suspect considered armed and extremely dangerous, a SWAT team moved in to make the arrest. >> Department 207. THIS IS THE POLICE DEPARTMENT WITH A SEARCH WARRANT. Hands up. Don't move. Get down. Get down flat on the ground. >> Contact. >> Do not move. >> On your stomach. >> On your stomach. >> Hold on. Let him turn. >> Who else is in there? Who else is in there? Hand. Hey, who else is in there? >> Nobody's in there. It's just me. >> He's saying nobody else is inside. Don't get up. Kick your feet out. Kick your feet out. Kick your feet out. Cross your legs. >> You want to stand him up? >> Yeah, give me something to wear. >> I got these. >> I'll put this around his waist and put it over his shoulders. You want to stand him up? >> Really? >> One, two, three, up. Stand up. >> Really guys, do you think you're in any position to ask for >> No. >> Why would you >> Pick him out and pick him out a nice outfit. >> That's very >> That's funny. >> At least At least give me something to wear, man. >> Yeah, whatever. >> Yeah, it's like crazy. >> Sylvester later claimed he got naked because that's how we enter this world and that's how we should leave it. He sat there waiting for the police with a loaded weapon. But in the end, he surrendered without resisting. The officers found the murder weapon in his bedroom along with the still bloodied clothes. >> You know why I won't to Um cuz she did. >> Well, we'll get into that. Okay. >> [clears throat] >> Um What I want to express to you is that um What's done is done. Okay. Um and >> asking if she did? >> Yes. Yes. >> You know sometimes we ask you when we do things. It's like I don't know how to call it or whatever. You know what I'm talking about? >> Yeah. Um >> It's like what do you call it that urge, anger. >> Yeah. >> You know they always say we have two sides. Right? >> Mhm. >> That's me. My wife, she was cheating cheating on me. >> Mhm. >> And also doing a lot of things against you know that I I knew she was doing. >> Okay. >> [clears throat] >> And what happened? >> She haven't been home for 3 months. >> Mhm. >> So And when she called me, she made me very happy and excited. I just did what I did. You see? >> Sylvester spoke calmly. He admitted [music] to killing his wife but blamed it on her behavior instead of his own. He never expressed remorse for the act itself and was eventually sentenced to life in prison for murder in the first degree. >> [music] >> In January 2025, Nassau County, Florida conducted Operation Deviant [music] Nightfall. Detectives posed as 13 and 14 year old children in various online chat rooms and apps. The operation resulted in 16 arrests [music] and one of the more notable ones was a pastor Willie Leon Wright. >> Guys. >> Please help me, man. My son is in the car. Please help me, man. My son is in the car, man. >> We heard you the first seven times. >> Okay, thank you. Thank you. Y'all scared me. He's in the car, man. He's asleep. I can't believe this, man. What is going on? Man, my son is in the car sleeping. >> We heard you, man. >> This is Well, wait a minute. >> You get in the car, man. >> Hey, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. What's going on with my son? Sorry, man. Can somebody talk to me, please, man? Come on, man. Y'all got my son. Can anybody talk to me, man, please? Come on, man. What about my son? Is he sleep? And y'all are scaring me, man. We were going to surveillance [music] drug to worship God. Can y'all talk to me, please? Anybody, can y'all talk to me? Oh my God, man. Y'all are scaring me right now, man. Son is in the car. >> Pastor Willie told the detectives that he and his son were on their way to a church service, [music] but he had come to that location to meet someone he believed was a teenage girl with his young son asleep in the backseat the entire time. >> We're not going through this, Lord Jesus. We cancel the plan of the enemy right now, God. Whatever setup was in mind, God, we cancel the plan of the enemy right now. God, I plead the [music] blood of Jesus. Whatever thing that was tried to be pawned up against us right now, God, we cancel the plan of the enemy right now. Hallelujah, Jesus. Hallelujah, Jesus. >> Is it right? >> Yes, sir. >> I see you pacing around in here, man. So, I just came in here to talk to you. I'm >> [clears throat] >> Brent. >> [music] >> This is This is Hector. >> It's a well. Um I just want to sit down and have a conversation with you. Um let you know before I talk to you, I have to read you your rights. You want >> [music] >> to have a conversation with me, man, to try to figure everything out? >> Okay. Yeah, absolutely. >> He's good. >> Is [music] he up? >> I think so. He's good. >> Yeah. Yeah, he is. He is. >> man. I know he's nervous, man. >> I got you. >> How we going to call anyone to go come get him or what what's going on? >> Yeah, it was a few minutes ago. We'll definitely work with you on that. Once we We'll let you see him and everything. We'll talk. >> You'll let me see him? >> We'll we'll we'll we'll talk. Okay? Let's just go with this guys. >> After reading him his rights, the detectives began questioning Pastor Willie. They started with a simple question about the reason he was at the gas station. He claimed he was just stopping by for gas on his way to a church meeting in Georgia. >> This Who was going to Who was going to a service in Savannah, Georgia. My sister and them were going to meet me. >> Mhm. >> We was going to surprise them there. >> Okay. What kind of service? >> Church service. >> Church service? >> Yes, sir. >> Who was going? Just you and your son? >> Me and my son. My wife [music] was going went to her mother's house and she went to a service in Palatka. So, I picked my son up from school. >> [music] >> I said, "You know what? Let's go to service." I was going to surprise my sister had a service in Savannah, Georgia. >> Okay. >> Um took a turn [music] trying to get back home, but man, this all kind of things been going on. I feel like I've been under attack. Someone tried to run us off the road this past like >> Really? >> Thank you. >> [music] >> Last Saturday. Someone um hit my truck. They hit me twice. I flipped my truck, man. >> [music] >> What kind of car you have? What kind of truck? >> I had a truck. A GMC 2020 GMC. >> Damn. >> Yeah. >> [music] >> I guess you I guess you're You're now? >> No. No, no, still going through the process of that, man. Everything is somewhat I don't even know what it was. It was a hit-and-run. They kept going. >> Was your son with you? >> No, he wasn't. I was Thank God I was the only one there in there, man. It's like people has been coming up just all kind of things going on, man. People are sick [music] trying to fit I don't know what it feel like. I don't know. I'm tagged set up. >> I'm glad you're here and not, you know, somewhere. It could have been worse. >> Exactly. >> The officers were tactical. They pretended to be interested in his story about a supposed planned attack against him. The goal was to build rapport, earn his trust, and make him feel safe. Then they segued back to why he was really there. >> I came up at the gas station. >> Well, I was coming down on trying to get get on cuz I was trying to get the address and everything as well. I made the wrong turn. So, I kept going. Um [music] went to get gas. Um he he was he had I don't feel asleep cuz we were going to get something to eat too as well. >> Okay. So, where where'd you come up from? Exactly you say you picked him up from school, right? >> Yeah. So, he loves pizza and stuff. So, I was trying to feed him something that So, I said, "You know what? I'm going to pull off and do this too as well." [music] So, yeah. I'm I'm I'm nervous. I ain't going to lie. I'm I'm not even nervous. I'm more worried about my son first though. >> Okay. >> And I know this stuff this stuff going to work itself out. I don't know what's going on, but I'm sure you guys got a better clue than me. My hands are numb right here cuz of the tightness of this level. >> All right. Well, like I said, give us a few minutes and we'll get somebody in here. >> As I went As I proceeded to get the gas that I didn't even I paid for the gas, didn't even get the gas. I wanted to make it full. I wanted the vehicle to be all the way full. So, when we came back from from Georgia, Savannah, Georgia, >> [music] >> everything would be fine. I mean, as far as stopping, we could come straight home, meet my wife, it would be fine. >> His version of events was a simple family trip gone wrong. He made a wrong [music] turn and had to stop for gas. It was just one piece of bad luck after another, and it was about to get worse when the detective started to press him about why he had chosen [music] that particular gas station. >> I don't know. It was a car following me. It was a car following me and um I was trying to turn. It was so far up on me on the other one up front. I just kept going, so. Man, I just [music] I don't know. I I know how I I don't know I don't know um what I will tell you. I'm nervous um nervous and more >> Can we stop you, okay? >> Okay, yes, sir. >> Will you stop lying to But look at me. Look at me. >> No, I can't talk. Y'all Y'all is No. >> Look, we're going to get get to the bottom of everything. >> Yes, sir. Yes, sir. >> I need you to be honest with me and honest with yourself about everything that's going on. >> Absolutely. >> I'm going to shoot you as straight as I can. >> Okay. >> As long as you do the same. So okay. >> Ooh. Okay. What do you tell me? >> So let me let me let me ask you the question one more time. Why did you Why did you end up at that gas station? >> Sir, I can't tell I would I would rather you tell me why I'm not here cuz obviously you guys know. >> [music] >> So you guys tell me why why I'm here. >> When the detectives pulled out that piece of paper, Pastor Willie went silent. However, he did not look surprised. After taking a few moments to think, he decided that the best option would be to deny. >> What number is this, sir? >> That's the number [music] that you were texting. >> Sir, that ain't even my number. >> Yes, sir. That's the number that you were texting. That's not your number. I I agree with that. That's the number. >> Mhm. I would rather have my lawyer I would rather get a lawyer sir cuz I'm not [music] I don't know. I don't want to I don't want to >> That's fine. You can You can have a lawyer. >> And I'm not trying to get I'm not trying to be rude, disrespect >> no. That That is your right. >> Yes, sir. I'm I'm just >> you are you are good, but I won't I won't ask you anything else. Um >> I would love to see everything. Yes, sir. >> And what are all of those, sir? What are all these? >> All of that is messages. >> They are? Who's that? Who's that? >> That's me. Oh my god, it's crazy. What in the world? Come on, guys. >> Based on what I'm looking at right now, you're going to go to jail tonight. Okay? Like I said, you requested a lawyer, we're going to step out of here, we're going to do the things we need to do, and we'll get you booked and processed, okay? [music] >> So, sir, wait a minute. You said I'm going to jail tonight? >> Yes, sir. >> Sir, wow. And and it seems like no matter what I would say, I'm going to jail by base even on that little bit of whatever that [music] is. Is what you're basically telling me. >> I I can't tell you yes or no when it comes to that. >> No, that's what it is. Come on, sir. >> ask you any more [music] questions about it, sir. >> So, wait a minute. Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Hold on. Hold on. Wait [clears throat] a minute. Wait a minute. Wait a minute. >> [music] >> Wait a minute. So, you're telling me that How can this be paired up, man? No matter what I say at this point. >> I don't know. >> Exactly. Guys, come on, man. Come on, my god. Come on, guys. This [music] is Oh my god. I refuse that, man. I'm not going to be set up, no, sir. >> He was charged with three felonies: traveling to meet a minor, using a computer to seduce, solicit, or lure a child, and using a two-way communication device in the commission of a felony. His bond was set at $390,006. >> [music] >> On a Sunday afternoon in St. Cloud, Florida, police were called to a Catholic church over an unusual complaint. A woman claimed the priest had bitten her during communion. The officers proceeded to interview the witnesses. Luckily, the holy mass was streamed live, so there was video footage. >> Yes, and she said she's trying to take it from her. >> Yes, she's trying to take it from us. That's the body of Christ. >> [music] >> Is there in in the the process for this, does does he have to hand it to her? Like does he have to place it in her mouth? >> She has to put their hand her hand in a specific way. So, if she doesn't put her hands in a specific way, >> but he doesn't have to put it in her mouth. He can just put it in her hand. She just has to hold her hand. >> You know, yes. >> In the Catholic faith, [music] the host isn't a symbol of the body of Christ. It's believed to become it during the ritual. That's part of the reason the communion right has a very specific condition. A person is expected to have confessed and be free of serious sin before receiving it. And the priest noticed the woman wasn't prepared for the communion at all. >> So, that's one of the reason why he knew that she was not prepared because she wanted to grab it like this. Well, you have to do a temple. That's how we call it. You do a temple to receive the body of Christ. >> So, it looks like they're having like a a conversation before that. And I know you said that it's because she wasn't she hadn't done the steps to to receive the communion. >> That's what That's what they were having That's what he said in mass. >> Like whenever it happened. >> Yes, after after mass finished, he gave that statement and he explained [music] to the congregation what happened. >> And did he did he say anything about I heard you kind of talking to him about why she wasn't prepared? Like she maybe she hasn't had confession and stuff like that. So, it's like a normal thing like if you went and you hadn't done confession and the steps to do it, then he would tell you the same thing like >> Yes. >> Okay. >> He he has that that >> That >> That right to to tell you to to deny it. >> Okay. Right. >> "No, you're not ready for it." >> The host is obviously extremely important for the Catholics. And Father Fidel Rodriguez refused to give communion to the woman. After refusing to do it several times, she reached out to grab the hosts and in the struggle, he bit her hand. >> Hello. How are you guys? I'm Officer Park Manor. What's going on today? >> Um I just got attacked by Father. >> By who? >> By the priest. Yeah. >> What do you mean? >> He just at the church at church, he bit me. >> Really? >> Yes. Yeah. So, we want to press charges. >> [music] >> Okay. I'll I'll get all this. I'll take a picture of that real quick. >> Over we went to go get the freaking bread. >> Do you need medical treatment? >> I I think right now I'm okay. Just it's swelling down. >> a fresh picture, too. >> I do have a fresh picture of what happened. >> Okay. I'm just [music] going to Cuz I know >> I'm a little shaky. >> It'll go away. It's okay. >> Yeah. But um yeah. >> Do you know the guy's name? Is it the pastor or the >> The dough. Father Fidel. >> [music] >> It's Catholic. I'm not. >> Yes. I have I have his information right here. >> Did you guys get into an argument before that? Anything? >> He wouldn't give me a cookie. And I don't know if it was because the way you know, or what it is that I like. >> Right. >> Um excuse me. >> It's okay. >> Um He said basically I needed to do confession and do all of this. I need to go to mass every Sunday or whatever and I said I that that doesn't matter. I've done everything I needed to do as a kid. >> Mhm. >> I'm just here to accept the bread. >> Right. >> And he wouldn't give it to me. So, I said, "Okay." So, I we went and stood there because it was like, "Okay, now this is this is not going to happen, you know? I don't I don't like this." We stood for another mass. We stood We stood for another mass. Try to try to do it again the right way. And I told him, "Listen, sir." I said, "You don't You don't get to judge me right now under under house >> Calling the host a cookie clearly showed that the two women were not prepared to take communion in the way the church requires it. Although the way they view communion was pretty immature, the priest biting her was also not normal in a civilized society. >> He's like, "You just told me you don't you don't go to mass. You haven't been to mass in years and this and that." That has nothing to do with And I told him I told him I said, "I did everything already." He's like, "When did you confess? When did you do this?" I said, "It doesn't matter." I said, "I'm here just to accept the bread." And then he's like, "Okay, because you want it." And then he just like chucked it and put it in my mouth. And I was like, "No, you're not going to do that." And he's like, "You want the bread, right?" And I was like, "Not this way." So, again, I'm not going to front. I went and grabbed I tried to grab another cookie and that's when he grabbed literally grabbed my hand. And he just bit me. And I tried to just back away, but this it was very indented before. And then the you know, volunteer >> Okay. >> He got to pick everything up from the floor all the way and everything. >> That's sacred for us. So, it is like, "No, we cannot allow We defend it with our lives. That's our our faith." >> Hey, but she came earlier and she looked you know, they were like mad. >> Yes. >> Because they want to see a father. I said, "Well, he's doing the mass. The other father ain't here right now." So, she was with the attitudes from the beginning. >> While waiting for Father Rodriguez, the officer relayed the information to his sergeant. They debated whether the footage actually shows the bite. However, once the alleged assailant appeared, he did not deny biting the woman. >> Um so we was watching the video of the of the service, right? And we kind of got an idea. >> Well, the video maybe is not so clear because there another line for communion between the the camera and us. So maybe you don't you don't The problem really is not what you can see, but what happened. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> We have mass at 10:00 in the morning. >> All right. >> Um mass was mass in English. Um there was first communion for the kids of the school. She came to me and for the experience, if I didn't know time >> [music] >> wasting time, I am retiring one moment. >> Okay. >> She came and she didn't receive the communion as we have the rule. You know, what in the hand or in the mouth. She wanted to grab it in this way is like you're taking a cookie. >> Okay. >> And then she didn't the the Christian needs to say an answer. Amen. When you say the body of Christ, amen. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> She didn't give the answer and then I said, because I have authority to do it. Uh you have you done your first communion? When was the last time you received communion? Because I see that she doesn't know what to do. Uh many years ago, I would say. Have you confessed after that? Are you coming to mass every Sunday to receive communion? I don't need to explain you that. Well, you don't tell me >> [music] >> the question because I can't I have authority to ask you. I cannot give you communion. I can give a blessing. Give a blessing. Please move so the other people can and she left. But she was upset. This was the 10:00 mass. >> 10:00 mass. >> The 10:00 mass end at 11:00. The first communion, the kids came here. We take picture with the kids, the families, whatever. And I go back because I have mass at 12:00. >> Okay. >> In Spanish. >> Okay. >> At the communion communion, she came again and I give her the benefit of the doubt. Did you confess between the mass before and this? Because she can do it. She can do it. >> All right. >> No, I don't need to explain you. I don't need to give an explanation. You don't have authority to judge you. You don't need to judge me. >> I'm not judging you. I'm asking you only, do you confess after the other mass to receive communion now? Because if you confess, I can give you communion. >> I don't need to give the space and then she first pushed me and grabbed and I had the bowl with the holy host for us as sacred. And she grabbed all the hosts in the hands because she wants to receive from herself. She's not permitted. And she break all the hosts spreading them in the in the Well, before spreading in the in the floor, I grabbed her hand. You cannot do this. This is wrong. This is a sacrilege. I said, "I don't care. I am receiving communion." And she then I said, "Let the the communion stop. You cannot do that." Because she didn't do the only the only difference that I found to defend the something from us for all of us sacred was by hand. I have recognized that I bite her. I'm not denying that. >> Father Rodriguez explained that the woman was pulled away by other churchgoers, [music] after which she started yelling and making a scene. He claimed he was acting in self-defense, protecting what he and his congregation considered to be sacred. But the officers were interested in whether there was more to it than that. >> Did anything I mean, obviously you don't know her. >> [music] >> Um anything about her Was there Was there any conversation about her living in sin or or the way that she lives her life uh about why that she couldn't she couldn't uh take communion or was it just the fact that she hasn't done the practices of your >> The The practices the rule that we must follow. >> Okay. So, if she was if she was uh a lesbian or if she was >> I don't know nothing about it. You know her. I don't know her. >> would that >> She's a lesbian? >> Maybe. >> I don't know. >> But what I didn't ask. But would that that would that uh >> You know I know you you can be gay and you can be [ __ ] up. >> Right. So, that So, that has nothing If you're If you're gay >> I'm not judging for the appearance, you know. I can tell you something. They're nice people here in the community. >> And they and they they're able to receive >> No, because they are married with another woman and they know that they cannot receive. But, it doesn't means that I don't read every day. I kiss them. I bless them. They have two kids. >> So, if they're if they're gay or trans or whatever have you and they've done the correct steps to receive communion, okay, they are allowed to receive it. >> Okay. After reviewing the live stream [music] and the accounts, police forwarded a summary to the state attorney's office recommending a charge of simple battery against Father Fidel Rodriguez. [music] As of the time this footage was collected, the state's attorney office had not filed that charge. On February 11th, 2025, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office was called to St. Luke's Catholic Church over a problem with the parish scholarship fund. Supposedly, a $10,000 check meant for a local Catholic high school ended up in someone's [music] personal bank account. >> Uh Mr. Howard, can you please tell me uh what's your role and uh >> Um my role at the time of the event is I was when our council listed as one of the trustees and also the head of the Cardinal Newman Scholarship Education Fund and the fund-raiser group that's [music] in our council. During the meeting, we had the passing out of the treasurer's report and the and the report of the scholarship fund and I noticed that there was $20,000 gone. >> Uh-huh. >> And so, I, you know, "Whoa, what's going on here, guys?" And the money in in previous to that I talked requested the two $2,500 checks. So, when the September meeting came and like "What happened here? Where's this money?" And oh, "Checks were given Evans and they were it was given to Cardinal Newman." >> Okay. >> And so, in the meeting he said that he had already given the checks to Cardinal Newman. >> And when you say he, who's that? >> Evans Paul. He said he'd given checks to Cardinal Newman. >> At the time of the meeting, 51-year-old Evans Paul was a long-time member of the council's grand knight. He claimed that he had given the two checks totaling $20,000 to Cardinal Newman, which turned out [music] to be a lie. >> So, I went online and checked and found the check and called the bank and then went, "Whoa! You know, Evan's name was written above Cardinal Newman." >> And what check was that? >> Uh it was one of the uh scholarship checks and it was uh for $10,000. >> Are you familiar with uh Evans Paul's wife? >> Yes, I yes, yes. >> All right. Uh what's your position in the church? >> Um [music] I think in in the church itself, uh she's I think I would believe she's an Eucharistic Minister, which means she helps pass out communion at communion time. She does also work at the school. >> Okay. >> She's uh does work at the school. >> Okay. And now, her [music] work is compensated? >> I think her work in the school is compensated and her work with the church is not. >> Her work with the church is not. Okay. Do you know she's involved [music] possibly of uh what's going on with Evans Paul or >> I have no idea. >> Okay. Just from your own personal belief or uh >> [music] >> record, um why would Evans Paul do anything like this? >> I have no idea. I would I was totally shocked about this and you know, when I pulled up that check and I was like I think I text Mark but I called him like, "You're not going to believe this." You know, you're you're I'm thinking all the time I'm going to go to Newman and try to get the money back and you know, there's 10 grand already gone and we have someone else's name on the check. >> [music] >> So, it kind of was shocking. >> When Evans Paul was brought in for questioning, he did not deny depositing the check and even [music] offered the explanation. Supposedly, he was just trying to help the children get the money from the fund. >> With your understanding of your rights, Uh, are you willing to speak with me? >> Sure. >> Okay. So, Mr. Paul, okay, um So, this is obviously has to do reference of >> Knights of Columbus. >> Knights of Columbus, okay. So, you were >> [music] >> Okay. Um, what is your role in the Knights of Columbus? Like, what what do you represent? >> I mean, when that happened, I was a grand knight. >> You were a grand knight, okay. You were appointed a grand knight, okay. >> Yes. >> All right. Have you ever had a a job in the church that you've ever been compensated for? >> No. >> No. It's been all volunteer. >> I've been yes, I've been volunteer every day, yeah. >> And how long [music] have you been at the church, attending the church for? >> like since 1999. >> Oh, wow, okay. >> Yeah, that's right. Well, I'm 25, 26 years. >> Okay. And during the time around July of of of last year when you became the grand knight Um Uh, there's an [music] incident that occurred, okay? Uh, reference I guess they had a meeting. >> Yes. >> Evans claimed that during one of the meetings, the treasurer, Ed, approached him and explained that the scholarship had never actually paid any [music] money to the families. So, he handed the checks to Evans and instructed him to sign his name and collect the [music] money so they could directly forward it to the students. >> I told him like, "This is what we're going to do. I can just get the money and then I put the money in my account. I can go to [ __ ] just contact those parents, get the information, and then make the payment online." He was like, "If it's as soon as you can do it to help me out, that would be fine." [music] I said, "Okay." So, he went to his car, he went home. He wrote wrote the check, but he wrote he wrote the check back home. When I take he's going to come with the check, I can tell him like, "Just put my name on it because I already told him I would just deposit the check that way I can make the payment online." So, what he said was like, "Okay, so now you get night. You don't have to pay me back time." So, he said, "You don't have time to go to the bank with me to put your name in the account. So, you get night anyway, so just sign on the top." He gave me the pen. [music] He was like, "Sign on the top of my signing, put your name that sign that you are a problem. So, I take the check. I hold the checks for 2 [music] weeks because I need to find out like with the parents first. So, how much money because you don't get only one scholarship. The school give you scholarship and everything. So, I just want to see how much the difference if it's higher than 2,500 a year or if it's less. But myself, if it's less, I will give them the rest of the money. Because 2,500 is belong to them every year. >> So, basically you basically decided upon yourself that you're going to take that money, deposit it, and then pay them regardless. >> No, you was going to I mean, it did you know the reason why I deposited only one check? Because the other girl for this year, she didn't have any balance. It's [music] only one girl that have balance $2,300. >> Okay. >> So, let me basically I mean, after I paid that $2,300, whatever that's left over to make it like 2,500, but I was not going to do that. I was going to give them [music] like the total like, you know, pay the balance and then give it the total $14,000 for the for the 4 years. >> Okay. >> But which is a one time. >> But then you attempted to submit another check for 10,000, right? >> Submit what? [music] >> You tried to get another check for 10,000, right? >> No, no, no. Those two checks was at the same time. The same time, the same minute. >> Okay, which is 20,000. >> Exactly. >> I know, but why would you do another $10,000 check? >> Because it's for two people. >> And Ed told you this? >> Ed was the one that give me the pen since Evans >> [music] >> signed on the top of my name, and then you can deposit it. Yes, it was Ed that give me the pen. >> The detective wasn't persuaded at all. There was no proof that the treasurer was involved in any way, [music] and all the clues pointed to Evans, a man who had been volunteering for years, yet barely managed to scrape by, especially when the economy took a hit. >> Again, I cannot [music] take your your word versus his word. That's hearsay. But all I know is I have all I have is the evidence. >> Yeah. >> It's your signature, which you You said. >> Yes. >> You noticed the check. >> Yeah. Um you are obviously going inside, talking to the teller and depositing it. >> No, I was I used the drive-thru. >> I'm I'm just saying >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> You're doing it at the drive-thru, depositing it, and it's going to your [clears throat] account, okay? And unfortunately, your account was already negative, >> [music] >> okay? Which why there was as soon as you dropped it, there was $73 missing. And that's why it [music] was it went down to $9,926.03, okay? >> Yeah. >> So, you know, it it doesn't it doesn't when I can pull your your account, and I can see all these overdrafts and negative, you know, like I said, you know, it's hard or whatever. So, [snorts] it looks like, you know, you you you had the intent to possibly do this to maybe help yourself and your family because obviously you got kids, you got whatever, and then you're going to pay the money back or quickly do what you had to do, which is that's a different case if you had the permission to do that. >> Okay. >> As of right now, the people that I spoke to, the people I interviewed, the people that swore on it said >> [music] >> that's a process that's never been done, and nobody [snorts] gave you the permission to do that. So, that's the issue that we have here. >> So, right [music] now >> unfortunately, I do believe that you didn't have maybe malicious intent of basically stealing all that money, but what you did is wrong, period. >> Okay. >> understand [music] that? >> Yes. >> Okay. You cannot write your name over a check, and you cannot sign your name, okay? All right? So, as of right now, what you're looking at as as being charged is grand theft >> [music] >> Okay. >> of $10,000 and uh uttering a forged instrument, which is a check. >> Okay. >> [music] >> The man stuck to his story. Meanwhile, his wife was waiting outside in the car. She was allowed to say goodbye to him as he was being arrested. >> I've been working here I've been at Central since 2016. >> Yeah, you did it so yeah. >> My son, I get married [music] there. We happy, and I used to be out there as a coordinator. I'm working at this spot. >> He's a person who don't do >> He's a person who don't deserve that. He's a person. I'm going to ask the bank. I tell you that. I'm going to ask the department to involve in that. He have all the texting. All the texting. He's going to pay this scholarship for the kids. >> I'll touch touch base >> I don't use people I don't We don't steal. >> Yeah. >> We don't steal. I know you're doing your job. >> Yeah, life is hard, you know. >> Yeah, life is hard. >> Yeah. >> If I explain to you my life, I stand after care. We don't steal. >> After [music] spending more than two decades at Saint Luke's as a respectable member of the congregation, Evans ended up in jail. He was charged with felony grand theft and felony uttering a forged instrument. At half past 1:00 on the morning of July 29th, 2023, an officer in La Crosse, Wisconsin [music] spotted a car driving on a flat tire. He approached the stop with his weapon drawn, not yet knowing who was inside. >> Hey. >> Stay in the car. >> Let me see your hands. >> Roll this window down. >> Hey. >> Good evening, officer. >> Hey, what's going on? >> So, tire has been blown and trying to get back to to where I'm staying in fact this sanctuary of Our Lady of Guadalupe. >> Mhm. >> And so I'm a Canadian national. I'm just trying to get back there in fact. It's that's where I'm actually living. >> Okay. Have you been drinking? >> A little bit, yes sir. >> Okay. You have a driver's license on [music] you? >> yes. Would you like to see it? >> Yeah. >> This is my international driver's license and my Canadian driver's license. Here it goes right here. >> You have insurance? >> It's right here. >> [music] >> The priest was polite, honest, and forthcoming. He did not deny drinking but said he only [music] had a few. But judging from his slurred speech, it was likely more [music] than that. >> What have you had to drink tonight? >> Uh a couple of drinks. >> What's a couple? >> Um two Manhattans. >> Two Manhattans? >> Yes, sir. >> What What are those? I don't I'm not familiar with those. >> Uh they're two cocktails. >> [music] >> Okay, what is it mixed with? >> Um one uh >> [music] >> uh a shot of rum with each and uh >> A shot of rum with each? >> That's [music] right, yes sir. >> Is that it? >> And a little bit of spritzer. That's right, sir. >> Okay. Are you a priest? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. The reason I stopped [music] you, man, is cuz you're driving around with no tire. >> Yes, sir. >> So I just want to run you through some standard field sobriety testing to make sure you were safe to drive tonight. [music] >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. Do you know the bar you were drinking downtown at? >> I can't remember the name to be [music] honest. >> Okay. Since he was a foreigner and a friend took him to a bar, the priest couldn't remember exactly where [music] it was. After obtaining all the initial information, the officers proceeded to conduct the standard field sobriety tests. [music] >> For this next test, it's called the walk and turn. >> Yes, sir. >> I'll explain it first and then I'll demonstrate [music] it, okay? >> Fair enough. >> So, I'd like you to place imaginary Pretend there's an imaginary line in front of you, okay? Place your right foot in front of your left foot touching heel to toe like so. With your hands down at your sides like this. Can you do that now for me, please? >> Yes, [music] sir. >> Don't move from this position until I tell you to. Do you understand? >> Yes, sir. >> All right. You can begin. >> One. >> You're off the line after one. >> Two. Three. Four. Five. Six. >> You took one extra step. >> Seven. Eight. [music] Nine. You said nine, sir? >> Just like I told you. >> Okay. Nine. >> [music] >> 10. Extra step. When I tell you to begin, you're going to raise either foot of your choice. You're going to lift it 6 in off the ground, parallel to the ground. You're going to pretend like there's a pop can underneath while looking at that foot. You're going to count out loud 1,001, 1,002, 1,003, and so on until you get to 30. Do you understand that, okay? >> can't see my foot very clearly with your lights here. Just for me. >> Okay. Is that better? >> Yes, sir. >> You can begin. >> 1,001, 1,002. >> Keep your hands down at your sides. >> 1,003, 1,004. 1,005, 1,006. Excuse me, sir. >> The test didn't [music] go smoothly. On the walk and turn, he stepped off the line and added [music] extra steps. On the one leg stand, he counted well past the instructed number and eventually lost the thread entirely. [music] Not to mention almost falling over. Can you recite the English alphabet to me without singing it? Without singing it? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. Can you do that now for me, please? >> A B C D E F G H I J [music] K L L M N P Q R S T U V W X M Y N Z >> [music] >> Q V W X Z Q R S T M V W X Y N Z L M P O, excuse me. >> [music] >> Uh L M N Q V Uh L M X Um L M N Excuse me, sir. Uh L M N Uh Uh S T U V Um W X Y N V Um X Um D U V Excuse me. Sorry, [music] sir. I'm not remembering it. >> As if failing every field sobriety test wasn't enough proof, the officers [music] decided to do one final test, the breathalyzer test. >> So are you willing to do our preliminary breath test? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. >> Trying to get back home. >> Okay. Okay, sir, when I tell you to, I want you to blow into this tube like you would into a balloon, okay? >> Yes, sir. >> All right, go ahead. Harder. Harder, harder, harder. There you go. Thank you. Okay, so you're [music] 0.205. Do you know what the legal limit in the state of Wisconsin >> I do not, sir. >> Okay, it's 0.08. So Do you know what the legal limit is? Yes, sir. Yep, so you're [clears throat] going to be placed under arrest for operating while intoxicated, okay? I'm sorry, sir. Have you ever been arrested for operating while intoxicated? So >> you're going to go through a further process with the officer and all. Um if we can find someone that's over the age of 18 and uh is completely sober, hasn't had anything to drink tonight, then they can come pick you up and you can be released from there. >> Yeah. >> Okay. And then you'll have to get uh have a further court date be advised of your rights. >> Yes, sir. >> You don't You don't have any pockets in this, do you? >> I do. I have pockets here. >> Copy. >> Where are they at? >> There are four pockets. Two in [music] the two here on >> Okay. >> You can feel them now, I think. >> Okay. [snorts] Anything sharp that's going to hurt me or poke me? >> There's a There's a uh pocket knife [music] in my um >> I I'll grab it. >> Yes, sir. >> Uh do you have pants underneath this? >> I do, sir. And that's where the pocket knife is. Yes, sir. >> Okay. What is this? >> That's just uh That's just perfume, sir. Yeah. There's a pocket knife in the pocket. Right here, sir. >> I'll grab it. I'll grab it. Don't reach for it. >> I'm assuming he's probably going to have to go to county. Uh he might be able to find someone. He's from the church. He's trying to get up to the shrine. >> I have a feeling he's probably not going to call anybody from up there, but we'll see. >> Probably. Yeah, I don't know. >> Yeah. >> The [music] priest was eventually booked into La Crosse County Jail and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated. It was his first offense, and hopefully he learned his lesson. In February 2026, in the small town of Tipp City, Ohio, 911 received a call from Caleb Flynn, a worship leader and former American Idol contestant. He claimed an intruder had broken into his home and shot his wife, Ashley, while their two young daughters were asleep down the hall. >> Oh my god. >> Wyoming County, 911. >> Oh my Oh my somebody Somebody broke into my home. Somebody broke into my home. I think it's my wife. >> Are they still in there? >> I don't know. I don't know. >> Okay, what's the address? >> Okay. >> [laughter] >> Okay. What do I do with my daughters? >> Right now Right now, I need you to breathe, okay? >> While inspecting the house inch [music] by inch, the officers noticed a back door in the garage that was blocked by a refrigerator, and the center console of Caleb's truck was left open. He later stated he kept a handgun in that truck's glove box. >> Do you see any blood on her or anything like that at all? >> [snorts] >> Hey, is someone Somebody needs to be watching him. They just can't come in this house. They're not going to be able to come like near the house or anything like that. >> Can I call my mom? >> During the initial 911 call, the dispatcher asked if the girls were okay, and Caleb didn't know. An alleged perpetrator had broken into his house, shot his wife, run away, and he never bothered to check if his daughters were okay. The officers would pick up on numerous discrepancies as they investigated the case. >> Call them. Come on, honey. Sorry. >> [laughter] >> Did he just stop looking at you? He just walked in this in the county. The girls The girls don't know The girls are sleeping. Can I Can I get I don't know what to do. I don't know what to do. >> I don't know what to do. And the lights >> Outside the house, Caleb continued crying hysterically, struggling to utter every word. And although the officers treated it like a break-in gone bad, the body cam footage showed they had their suspicions early on. >> No cars came driving out of there. >> No, I didn't see nothing. >> Wait, I didn't see anything either. All down highway, I didn't see anything. >> first one. They came in, I started going fast, and then they said >> Yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah. >> Turn my phone off, erase down, tell him I scared no one. And then I don't find it the first time. >> Well, that that the back that back The side door is what's open. >> It's open still? >> Yeah. It is. It There was a fridge in front of it. >> You guys cleared the garage there then? >> Yeah. >> We didn't The truck The The center console of the truck's open. And that's where he said he keeps his gun, so This is your show. >> The wife. In the same room, is that it? >> Yeah. In her bed In the bed. >> Can you hear him? I I did I didn't talk to him. Cory's the one I was talking to him. >> Caleb and his wife, Ashley, seemed like a perfect couple. And according to reports, most people who knew them would never think he was capable of shooting her. Yet, the officers allegedly found evidence that Caleb had tampered with the crime scene before they arrived. >> I know you're not certified to tell me this. How long do you think she's been gone for? At least 5 >> Not long. >> Okay. We're trying to figure out why in the hell where was he at? Cuz we got here about a burglary call. >> Yeah, I'm guessing but not hours. >> Okay. >> They'll be able to get her body temperature. >> Okay. >> And they will be able to tell you a time. >> Okay. >> It hasn't been 5 hours. >> No. Okay. I recently think >> The color was so good. >> Okay. >> That told me >> Okay. >> it was gray matter at the exit wound. >> What just happened? Did he just come in? >> Yeah. Yeah. I would say probably 40 minutes ago now. >> She was sleeping. You know she didn't know. She told me to sit with the cat and have a coffee. I shouldn't have listened. >> After getting checked by paramedics, Caleb voluntarily went to the station to answer questions and provide a DNA sample. There was no public interrogation footage and investigators did not say what specifically made them decide to arrest. >> It's real simple. It's sterile um new packaging. So, if you just open your mouth and then I just put it in and I swirl it around on your cheek a couple times. >> You just stand [music] up for me like this. We'll replace the gloves. All right. >> Step forward >> We don't have evidence. >> What's that? >> Turn around for me, sir. >> We're We're not going to discuss that here. >> Okay. >> Put your hands together for me like >> Can I patch you through to call him? >> What's that? >> Can I patch you through to call him? >> No, I don't know his >> His lawyer is supposed to be calling right now. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> We'll get in touch with him. >> I'm I'm I'm being cordial and being cooperative with the police. >> Okay. >> That's what I'm answering. You want to give my husband real quick? >> Go ahead. >> You know she's >> [music] >> Caleb Flynn was charged with one count of murder, two counts of felonious [music] assault, and two counts of tampering with evidence. He has pleaded not guilty and the case remains open. They may hide their dark secret behind a carefully crafted public image, but when they get exposed, they learn the hard way that being a man of faith doesn't place them above the law.
