Hope you are under arrest. >> On Christmas Eve at around 2:48 in the morning, Rochester police were dispatched to St. Mary's Hospital in Minnesota after a man was rushed there with multiple stab wounds. Doctors worked urgently to save him as officers began tracing back what had happened. Not long after, a witness reported that a young man covered in blood had approached him, admitting he had just stabbed someone and still had the knife. Few hours later, he was found inside an apartment disoriented and wearing bloody clothing before being taken to the hospital himself. It was there that investigators sat down with Trey Shan and he began to explain his side of the violent events that had unfolded earlier that night. >> Mr. Haywood, I'm going to handcuff you. Okay. Sean, so we're you're not since you're under arrest, you're not allowed to make any phone calls at this point. Okay. We have officers up at the apartment talking >> under arrest. It was self-defense. >> That that's that's for court. That That's not for us. Okay. Tan, I know it's not super great to talk to a guy that's in a mass you've never met before, but I'm Aaron Lmire. Okay. work with investigations here at Rochester Police Department. All right. So, sounds like you'd like to talk to me a little bit about what what happened tonight or this morning early. >> Oh, no. It's my cousin birthday today. >> Okay. Which cousin is that? >> My cousin. It's Porsha's birthday today. >> Okay. >> We kind of like we went out for her for her birthday and we came home. Where'd you go? >> We went to my girlfriend. >> Okay. Who's your girlfriend? >> How long have you guys been dating? >> Oh, yeah. Boy. >> Okay. >> We went over her house. Her brother came. >> Her brother. >> Okay. And who's her brother? >> Huh? >> Who is her brother? >> Tommy. >> Okay. So, he comes over. Who else is there? I think I don't I just remember him coming over like Yeah, I just remember just him and I think my cousin was over there too. >> Who is your cousin? >> Lauren. Yeah. >> So, you got Lauren, you got Tommy, yourself, Tiana, and Porsche. Porsche. >> Porsche. No, Porsche wasn't there. >> Porsha wasn't there at all? >> No, she wasn't there. Like after we left from like going out like >> Okay. We went to my girlfriend's house and came over to parent house. >> Okay. So you guys you guys went to a bar before you went to your girlfriend's house at Washington Village. >> Was it a bar? >> It was kind of like a little restaurant. >> Got it. Okay. So you go out to eat for Porsche's birthday. Come back to Tiana's place which is at the Washington Village there. Right. Okay. So it's So it's in U4. >> You come Uh-huh. >> So it's U4 then eventually, right? Okay. So you guys are hanging out. Tommy comes over. >> Yeah. >> What happens? >> Hanging out. Tommy come over. He's drunk. >> He was like being loud and stuff. And then I don't know. I was in the room cuz I was laying down. And then >> you were in whose room? >> I was in Ter's room. >> Okay. his name down. And I just heard him like talk about like my other sister that don't even live here in Memphis. She live in Memphis. He was telling like she's she's a hoe like all that stuff. >> Who is she telling that to? >> Huh? >> Who was he telling that to? >> I think Ter like he like my sister. He he was talking about my sister. He was like, "Misha, she's a hoe." All that stuff. And I was like And so I got up and I was like, >> "Where where was he at when he was calling your sister a hoe?" >> In the kitchen. >> Okay. So he was in the kitchen. You were back in that room. Okay. >> And I heard him. He was drunk and loud and I was here and so I was like I so I got up and I was like wait what you talking about? He he still drunk and he was getting rowdy like your sister a hoe and he like your sister a hoe and other stuff and I'm like and so I told him I'm like your sister a hoe. But I was talking about my girlfriend like cuz he was talking about my sister and I don't play about my family. And so I was like telling him like your sister a hoe. And so we got rowdy and Lauren and my cousin until they got between us and he was still being loud. >> You said Lauren. >> Okay. >> She we were still being loud. I mean, he was still being loud and he was like, "Your sister is a hoe." And all this stuff and I was like, "No, your sister a hoe." And then I said, "Your mama a hoe." And then I guess he hit me. He hit me like I was going back to the room and he like hit me from like the side. >> Okay. Where did he hit you at? >> Right here. Like this. >> What do you mean? Whatever this Okay. Right here. >> Okay. >> And so >> how did how did he hit you? >> Huh? >> How did he hit you? >> How did he hit you? >> Yeah. >> Like he like Okay. So I was like, "Yo, mama hope." And he was like, "No." And then I was like, "I'm not going to argue with you." And then he and so I went back in the room to lay back down >> and he like came from behind me and just like hit me and I felt it and so I turned around and I had my pocket knife and I grabbed it and I started stabbing him. >> Okay. Um why did you stab him? because that's like what I had over me and I just feel like when he hit me it was just like I blanked out and that's what I >> Do you think did he hit you with anything or you think he hit hit you in the head with a closed fist when you're going into that room? >> He definitely punched me. >> Okay. Like he didn't hit you with a a pipe or a 2x4 or anything like that. He with his fist. >> Yeah, he definitely >> Okay. So then after he hits you, you're you're kind of going into the room at that point in time, right? >> Yeah. And >> so he hits you, you turn around. >> Yeah. He hit me. I turned around. Lolo. Well, Lauren, she was holding me. >> And while she was holding me, I grabbed my knife up. >> Okay. >> And then she got out the way and I started stabbing her. >> Okay. How many times you think you stab him? You don't know. Okay. Mhm. >> Do do you know where you stabbed him? >> No. >> Okay. What caused you to decide that you're going to pull out your pocket knife and then >> go go go to him to stab him? >> No. Like when we started getting rowdy, he started calling my sister. I was like, "What is you even talking about at this point?" Cuz at this point, you getting rowdy and you drunk and you mad or something about something. I don't know. >> Sure. So I just got up and asked him like, "What you talking about? Why you bringing up my sister name?" Like that's how I was thinking like, "Why you bring my sister name? So what you talking about?" And then he kept saying, "Your sister hug." Then I said, "Your sister." >> How' that make you feel when he was calling your sister a hoe? >> It made me feel not bad cuz I know my sister not a hoe. It was just >> say that because me and him when we was out at the restaurant, man, him sister was pissing and stuff. So I guess and his mom and I guess B don't like us being together because she's 24, >> right? >> And so they feel like she too old for me. >> Okay. Did that that cause you to get upset when he was calling sister a hoe or your girlfriend a hoe? >> No. >> No. >> No, I wouldn't. No, he was called his sister. He's called my sister. >> I'm sorry. That's what I meant. Your sister >> and No, I didn't I wasn't like upset like that. It was just like the principle of it like why you even bring it up in the first place and why I even talk about my sister in the first place. >> Sure. >> And so I was just thinking like why would you even bring that up? And so when that happened, he drunk and he rowdy and he just loud and he yelling >> at this point. And so I'm like, "Okay, it's whatever you want to do." >> What does that mean? >> Huh? >> What What does that mean to you? Like when you when you're saying that, I know that kind of means different things to people. When you say that out loud, what are you what are you meaning >> when when he's like, "Yo, it's the hook." I'm like, "It's whatever you want to do." You mean like whatever you want to do, however you feel, we can get like if you want to fight, we're going to fight with you. >> We're gonna settle it. If you want to do that, okay. >> Okay. So then is that kind of when it starts getting physical when you say that and like, "All right, let's do this." >> Okay. >> What um were you intending I mean like was your hopes to just like let's just get it off each other's back. Let's get it on the table. Lay out on the table and fight. Or you did you not want to fight? >> He's my cousin. Porsha. She Porsha birthday. >> It's his It's her. That's her baby daddy, >> right? Yep. >> Yeah. And so we never had no problems or none of that. And when he started bringing my sister name up, it was like, why you bring my sister name? Why you even calling her a hoe at this point? >> Yeah. And so I started feeling some type of way like why you even bring her name up at this point. And I wasn't really listening to that conversation. I just heard like he started like when he started saying that he was like Nisha ho. Nisha ho. That's my sister. And he calling her hoe. And so I got up. What you mean my sister a hoe? Mhm. Yep. And so I told her it's whatever you want to do. And then Lola now holding us back and Lola told me go back in the room. And so I went back in the room and then like soon I like turned around. It's like I felt the hit. >> Mhm. >> And so I turned around. It's like when he hit me I didn't feel it. It was just like I didn't fall or nothing. It was just I felt the hit like he hit me. >> Mhm. >> And so I was like And so I grabbed I went in my pocket. >> Did you I mean were you pissed off at him at the when you when he punched you? How did that make you feel? >> It made me feel like you really just put your hands on me and I ain't had nothing to do with y'all conversation and >> you talking about monsters and I can't even see what y'all was talking about. >> Okay. So when you pulled out the knife after he punched you, what was your intentions with that? >> It just I just feel like it was just self-defense cuz when he hit me it was like I want to blank. >> Okay. Do you I mean like do you remember stabbing him a couple of times? >> I don't times whatever it was. >> All I remember is like >> I mean you know you did it though, right? Right. Okay. >> I'm not going to cap. Yes, I know I did. And I feel like I mean after that and then I don't know something happened. All I just remember is Laura and Tiana. Tiana was in the bathroom crying real bad. Lolo, she was in my face crying. I'm telling them, take me home. Take me to my sister crib. Take me to my sister crib. They crying real bad. Lolo like no. No, I can't take you to your sister crib. I can't take you. And so I started walking. >> Okay. >> And I walked all the way from them apartments to where the M&M's came to my sister in this book. >> Okay. You walked all the way up there. >> Yes. >> Okay. Did you That's a long ways. >> A long way. This is a long way. I was going through the bushes and everything on your clothes. Yeah. >> Right. Right. Right. >> Yeah. It is. I walked a long way. And when I got to my sister crib, her door was unlocked, but she wasn't there yet. It was like 12:00, 1:00. And so she wasn't there, but her door was unlocked. So I just went in her crib and I got in the bed and I just fell off like fell asleep. And I ain't even know like when my sister came there, she started like wiping the blood off. She like, "You got blood all on your face and stuff." And like it was like a lot of blood on my face. And so she started wiping blood and stuff off my face and I I just fell out or something like something happened. Then I just woke up and embra my face. >> Okay. Do you What kind of knife was it? >> It's like a little pocket knife. >> Okay. Where do you know where that is? >> Huh? Do you know where that knife is? In my pants. >> It's in your pants here. You think? You never took it out? What? Like a folding pocket knife or what color was it? >> A red folding pocket knife. >> In your shorts or in your pants? >> I remember everything like me. Like I don't remember just like actually like stabbing them. So, do you know where I stab him? >> I I don't know exactly where exactly how many times or not. I'm not 100% sure, but I >> a couple times. >> I like I said, I I don't know all of the exact injuries and all that stuff. So, >> say that again. >> I'm the only one that's being locked up. >> Well, he's he's still here. >> He's here. >> Yeah. He didn't die. Not yet. Okay. I don't I don't know the extent of what's going on, but um we'll cross that bridge when we get there. I just don't know yet. Okay. >> Double locking your C so it'll get tighter on you. Okay. It's raining. We got to go on this side. Dude, it's not enough room over there. When did it start raining? >> Didn't rain about 7:30. >> Oh, really? I was here already. I haven't been outside. All right. Have a seat, sir. >> I'll take Yep. I'll take care of the seat belt for you. >> Trey Shun, now in custody and facing charges of firstdegree assault and seconddegree assault with a dangerous weapon, was now headed to jail. >> Okay. >> Days later, the man he stabbed, survives his injuries, and investigators sit down with him to hear his side of what happened. >> All right. So, nobody's talked to you um since the incident happened. Um do you want to talk to me about what happened? give me your side of the story of what happened or any information. >> I mean, it was just basically uh I don't know, drunk people doing drunk things. >> That's that's basically what it was. >> Um the conversation of how me and him had our, you know, interaction was based off somebody called a sister hoe and everybody in the house agreed to it. >> Mhm. >> And he took it some type of way. >> And we're talking about Tra. >> Yes. Okay. So my sister pushed him into the room or whatever and >> their sister um >> Terion. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> She pushed him into the room and when he was in the room um he just kept yelling my sister in a hole yada yada yada. I said he was I said she is. >> Mhm. >> You know and he came out the room and he rushed me when we was in the um kitchen. >> Okay. >> And my baby m mother who standing in front of me. I pushed her out of the way and he charged me and I hit him. >> Okay. >> So, um, after that it was just back and forth. I didn't know I was stabbed until I woke up in the hospital. >> Okay. >> About to cut, you know. I understood what was going on because blood everywhere, >> but as far as the incident, >> I don't know when he cut me, you know what I mean? So, um, >> I don't know. >> Okay. Um, your baby mama is Porsche. M okay. And your current girlfriend is >> Kayla. Okay. Okay. And Porsha took you to the hospital and she was there when this was all going down then and all the whole stuff >> and the initial incident happened in the kitchen area. That's where he came at you. >> Yeah. It was it was two accidents. It was in a kitchen and then it was in a bathroom and then >> our room. >> Do you remember? So there was blood basically everywhere. >> Yeah, trust me. I know. >> Do you imagine? Do you remember coming back to the kitchen afterwards and that's where that blood came? Or could that have been from the initial? >> It could have been from initial. >> Okay. >> Could have been there cuz I know for sure it started in the kitchen. >> Okay. >> This is for sure. >> And so you don't remember seeing the knife? You just >> I don't remember seeing the knife. I just once um once Porsche was like, "We got to go. We got to go. We got to go." And I'm looking down, you know, I'm I'm blacking out, but I'm seeing the blood. So, I grabbed my arm and I was like, "I'm okay. >> I'm okay. I'm okay." And she was like, "No, you're not okay. He stabbed you in the neck. He did this. He did that." And I'm like, >> "Man, I'm fine. I'm fine." And then I started falling. And then they got me and took me out the door. >> Okay. And literally all I can remember was I don't remember walking to the elevator, but I remember being on the elevator. >> I don't remember walking outside, but I remember being in the park. >> Okay. >> So, um, >> so suffice it to say, you probably didn't drive to the hospital. No, I didn't drive. >> Porsche drove. Yeah. Okay. >> Cuz >> I mean, I got blood on the passenger side of my door in my car out there that still. So, >> Okay. And where was your car at? That was out next to Porsches. Yeah. >> Okay. >> All right. So, let me ask you this. Um, there was an allegation that you had hit your sister and that she fell over in the bathroom. >> I didn't hit my sister. >> Okay. >> I never hit her. >> Okay. >> The most I did to her. I pushed her twice for sure. I pushed her into the bathroom sink and I pushed her into the tub. >> I didn't hit her. >> And that was to >> That was her. That was to get her off of me >> just Okay. So, she was attacking you to protect her. >> So, um Okay. We was in the room and she was like, "Um, get the out of my house." That I think I think that's what she was like, "Get out of my house." And I was like, "Tell me get your house. You the one I started." And you know, she started >> I don't know, hyperventilating something. And then she started pushing me and we ended up in the bathroom and I was like, "Stop pushing me." And I pushed her into the sink. >> She pushed me again and I pushed her into the tub and she got up. She had something in her hand. I don't know what it was. and she tried to hit me with it and I dug and I smacked it out of her hand, but I don't know what it was. I just know it was something big and black. >> Okay. Okay. So, she was defending uh Tan. >> Yeah. I didn't want to say this at first, but I feel like I need to say this. >> My sister stabbed me, too. >> She did? Okay. >> She did this. >> She did the back. >> Yes. >> And the one on the back >> and the one on the back of my neck. >> Okay. >> But when you say I need to die, >> she need to be in this. >> Okay. So when you say your sister, Terion. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> So she stabbed you on the back of the right arm. >> Mhm. And in my neck >> and the one high neck in the back. >> Do you have any idea if it was with the same knife or >> I doubt it was with the same knife. It might have been with whatever she tried to hit me with that broke. >> Okay. >> It could have been that or it could have been something else. You know what I mean? But I know it was once we came out of the bathroom cuz he came into the bathroom when I pushed him into the tub >> and I turned around and he charged me again and I hit him and then he fell into the room and then she started coming behind me. So, >> okay, >> that I don't know what she picked up or when she picked something up, but >> the last thing I said before I passed out was my sister stabbed me.
