On a quiet evening at North Kirkwood Middle School, a community trunk-or-treat event turned into chaos when a shirtless man wandered through the crowd getting inches from parents' faces and whispering threats. Witnesses said he suddenly declared, "You're all going to die." before pulling a handgun and firing multiple shots straight into the air. Families grabbed their children and ran as the suspect kept walking and shooting. Several fathers rushed in, tackling him to the ground and and pinning the weapon until officers arrived. The suspect was identified as 35-year-old Matthew McCulloch, an off-duty St. Louis County police officer. He was taken into custody and later charged with multiple felonies for endangering children and making terroristic threats. What began as a harmless school event became a terrifying reminder of how quickly danger can appear in the safest places.
