Welcome back everyone. Today's video comes out of Alaska where guide captain and his guest were spotted fishing on the Kenai River. While fishing in the area, Alaska State Troopers watched the guide captain as he kept a snagged or foul hooked sockeye salmon, a clear violation of Alaska State regulations. >> How you doing, man? >> Uh, pretty good. >> So you thought I got news I was going to chat with you? >> Huh? >> So you got news I was going to chat with you? >> I did, yes, sir. >> Okay. So, um, >> His spot up there at People's Hole. >> Okay. >> Fishing. Um, and you kept that snagged fish. >> Okay. >> So, the guy saw the whole thing, so, um, did you, uh, you just not know what was going on or >> It was I got it in the net and kind of it was right on top of the head, so I was like going to keep it, but yeah, I think I >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. Uh, do you have your ID on you and all that? >> Yep. >> Did you know you're not allowed to fish in People's Hole? >> What do you mean? >> As a guide, you can't fish in People's Hole. >> I did not know that. >> Yeah, you're not allowed to fish in People's Hole. >> Any other guides? >> No guides. You can fish anywhere but People's Hole. From the shore. >> Got you. >> Yeah. >> From the shore? >> From the shore. >> I wasn't fishing myself in People's. >> I saw you fishing. >> Flossing? >> Yeah, I saw you. >> Oh, flossing, yeah, I was flossing. >> can't floss. >> Okay. >> Yeah, you can't floss. >> you said from the shore you could. >> You can't anywhere. >> Got you. >> So, that section right there at People's Hole, >> Yes, sir. >> you can't you can't fish from shore. >> Um, >> Do you got a hard copy of it or just the citation? >> Just the citation. >> What about your driver's license? >> It's all in the truck. >> How did you guys do today? >> 10 time. >> 10? Good. Good. Can you just pull it out for me? >> Yep. >> You got a good address on there? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay, cool. Um, so, slap on the hand, right? It's not like you're not going to lose your guide license and stuff like that, but if something else happens, it could go down the road right of that. It's like a speeding ticket basically. >> Uh-huh. >> Um The difference with this is like I guess the benefit of you doing it and you catching this fish is that you don't get aid a client. Which is not good. >> Mhm. >> So, um if it was one of their fish that was snagged and you kept, then you get the aid a client, then you could look at misdemeanors and bigger charges, right? So, the fortunate thing is it was your fish, so So, that's I guess the positive of it all. >> Yeah. >> Um >> [snorts] >> I am going to take one fish though. So, if you just want to I don't care. It could be the smallest fish. I don't care. Um but I will I will take one of the fish. Um you've already cleaned them I'm guessing and all that. >> We have not. >> Oh, you haven't. So, I'll So, I'll snag that. So, um >> I don't want to talk. >> And you said you caught it where? >> All the others were right in the mouth. >> No, no, this one. >> Oh, it was right here. >> Well, let's look. >> It definitely wasn't that particular fish. >> Okay. Yeah, well, let's find the fish it actually was. >> We split them up in the boats down our >> Oh, you did. Okay, you got it. Makes sense. Okay. So, I'll just take this one then. I thought you meant this fish was was the one that was snagged. So, okay, cool. Um I'll be ready to take if you guys want to keep cleaning your boat, doing your stuff. Um but, yeah. >> Love you, man. >> Thank you. Sorry, it would have been faster, but the paper the >> Where is >> the computer one didn't work. >> clarify one more time like on grassy bar, guys are allowed to fish? >> Okay, I'll show you. I'll I'll explain to you in a second. Um okay, so information for information, this is for the snagged fish. $100 one toy total, one sockeye. My information I'll score it there in three days. Please no contest and pay the fine. online here or mail it in. Plead to not guilty go to court. Okay. The other one is unfortunately because it's a guide violation. Um it's um it's still strict liability but it's a mandatory court appearance. I'm willing to work with you guys. I know you're super busy throughout the year. This can go all the way into August, September if you want. Or it can go on your days off it's Tuesday and it's Thursday at 3:30. So whatever you think would be best for you. >> We do like in the September. >> Yeah, that's fine. We can do October too. Like first part of October. So let's do uh That way you aren't it's not messing with your season and >> And that's going to be it's going to be a full violation on my guide license. Or how does that >> This is still strict liability. >> Okay. >> So this isn't a misdemeanor. >> Okay. >> So um this is just you're going to have a violation. So that one's not on your guide license that's just a a fishing ticket. This one is a guided ticket though. >> Okay. >> But it's not how the state parks look at it is you'll lose one day of fishing. >> Okay. >> On your first offense. So like if you get charged you have to take a day off. That doesn't mean it could that doesn't mean it has to be like Like for instance say your Tuesday's your day off you just have to pick one day in the year not to fish. >> Okay. >> So if Tuesday's your day off you just won't fish Tuesday cuz you weren't going to fish it anyways. >> And is that how do I log that? Log it in >> have to you're going to have to state parks. Talk to state parks. But that's if you know clearly you're innocent till proven guilty, right? So um I'm 10-60 no further. Okay. So we'll do mandatory court appearance. Let me just get this and then I'll answer some of your questions for you. Okay, so first part of October works, so like 7th or 9th? >> I think 9th works. >> 9th, okay. You don't have to go to court, you can do it telephonically. So, if you want to call in, you can. Um, it's not mandatory court appearance. And so >> How much is that one? Does that look like >> That goes up to $500. I'm going to request 250. >> Okay. >> So, it's all cut in half. So, >> Yeah. >> um, since your first offense, you haven't I'm guessing. I I didn't check, so. How many years have you been fishing on this >> This is my second year of guiding the sport here though. >> Okay. So, there's your copy. Um, let me grab my reg book. I'll show you what I'm talking about. It's on the other side. So, right off the get-go here, right? It says Kasilof River, this is guide, downstream, a person may not sport fish from registered guide vessel on any Sunday in July. And then this is the part we're talking about. Guides are allowed to sport fish with clients from shore except within the area between the ADF&G marker at the confluence of Crooked Creek downstream to half mile to a marker at the cut bank. >> So, you know that sound just down >> Yeah, and then that grassy spot you're talking about is around the corner. >> Okay. >> Okay. So, it's basically that whole People's Park area. >> I got >> If you're familiar with that. And here's the deal. Like, I'm not thinking anything bad about you, right? You're You made a mistake today. I don't believe you do this every single day. I don't think it's something you actively tried to break the law. I think it's just a mistake. It happens. Okay, so me and you, like we're good, man. I'm not sitting there thinking, I'm I'm I'm going to get after him all year. Like, we're good. >> Unfortunately, I was in the right place and I saw it happen. >> Right. >> And so >> clean feathers I see here. It's all in the serious of it's on the clean cut bank. >> Oh, yeah. And I I don't doubt it. And I know Reuben's like that, right? I've known Reuben a long time, and And but I know stuff like this happens. Like it does. But But anyways, yeah. And you you can talk about it with the other other people, you know. Clearly, that's one that I think people kind of don't really pay attention to the people's hole. They pay attention to king stuff, but they hear you can fish salt guys, and they just say, "Oh, okay. I'm good for the whole river." But But yeah. Okay, cool. Thank you, man. Have a good day. >> The fish was seized and donated to a camper in the Crooked Creek area. As for the captain, he was charged with being in possession of a snagged or foul hooked freshwater fish and fishing as a guide with clients present in a closed area. As I'm sure you saw in the video, the state trooper was very willing to work with the captain and even set his court date back to October so he could get out of busy season before having to deal with it. Now, does that mean the captain handled the violations like a responsible adult? No. He actually failed to appear to his court date triggering a default judgment. As part of the default judgment, he was ordered to pay a total of $555 in costs and fines, which he failed to pay triggering them to go to collections and increasing the total value to $590. [music] Anyways, if you like the video, make sure you subscribe to see more content like it. As always, thanks for watching.
