Please don't lose. Give us your Okay. >> I don't want to lose my leg. >> You're not going to lose your leg. >> No, you're not. >> I tried to talk to him and nobody was on campus. He's like, >> "Okay, so this is what's going to happen." >> On December [music] 5th, 2024, a routine traffic stop in Bernalo County for suspended plates turned into a nightmare. The suspect, apparently allergic to simple registration fees, decided that fleeing at [music] high speeds was a better alternative to a fix it ticket. He tore through a red light and slammed into two innocent vehicles, proving that some people lack the basic brain [music] cells required to operate a motor vehicle. It was a textbook example of how one [music] man's stupidity can instantly shatter the lives of everyone else on the road. >> You lost your sheriff's reason. I'm stopping you, bro. Your plate suspended. I know I he's going over there to MVD, but it just died out on me. Look, >> there's someone in the back or what? >> No, there's not. Promise you there's not. >> Okay. You got an ID on you, bro? Oh, >> I do not. I left it in his car. I don't know where you're going. The guy that was parked next to me, the brown one. >> Oh, I didn't see it >> cuz I just bought it from them. >> You bought this car? >> Yeah, we just bought it. >> Oh, okay. >> My mom is right there at the Maverick, too. >> Oh, you got What's your name, bro? >> Luis K Luis Talamontes. >> Give me one sec. All right, bro. >> You mind just turning off the car for me, bro? It's It's dead. It died out. >> Oh, it's dead right now. >> Yeah, it just died. That's why I pulled over right here. >> All right, bro. >> I should have been honest with you since Okay, man. >> Put your both hands out. Let me see your left hand. >> What's going on, man? The phone. I'm going be honest with you. I should I should have gave you my real name. >> I know it was your fake name, bro. >> No, but I'm going to be honest with you, sir. Please. I don't want to get in trouble. I just got out. I'm trying to do good. Please, sir. >> Okay. >> What's You got What's your real information? >> I'm being honest, sir. >> Step out from here, bro. Sirbody. >> All right, we're going to be coming up to um looks like he is on one wheel or maybe driving some sort of channel 44 out. 44 out. >> The officer's behavior was professional and verifying [music] legal status was absolutely necessary. However, the suspect chose to show off his racing skills by speeding away from officers, which was a clear violation of the law. The chase didn't last long before the suspect plowed through an intersection, causing a threecar [music] pileup that left the area looking like a war zone. use the [ __ ] hands. >> Give us your hands. >> Use your hands. >> Stop [ __ ] checking. So, we have one to 43. It's going to be our three vehicle 45. Give us your hand. Give it up. >> Look at me. >> Sit over. >> Look at me. >> Stop. >> Look at me. Need to get this intersection shut down. >> Oh my god. >> Hey guys, stay on the sidewalk. >> You coming east to west right there. >> Stay over there, bro. >> Stay on the sidewalk. >> Yeah. You okay? >> Yeah. Sit. Stay on your side. >> Uh when you get through right here, >> what do we got here? She's probably hit. She can't move her leg and she's bleeding from the mouth. >> Shut down eastbound traffic. Who the is that? Get up. >> Get up. My look, bro. I swear. >> Hey, hey, hey, hey. Stay over there. Stay over there. We got a handle. Stay over there. >> God, you did that TO MY SISTER. >> I KNOW. I KNOW YOU'RE FRUSTRATED. I KNOW. >> The scene became heartbreaking as a pregnant [music] woman, Starlight, sat bleeding and unable to move her leg. Her sister was rightfully losing it, screaming at the suspect for the damage he caused. You could feel the raw pain in the air. Honestly, the officer should have given that woman 5 minutes alone with him to deliver some street justice. He stood there looking pathetic while a family's life hung in the balance because of his ego. >> Just have a seat right there. We're going to get her help. >> Right now, we're going to have one female. >> Okay. >> You're the only one in the car, correct? >> Yes. >> No one was in the back. Nothing like that. Okay. Medical's coming to get you checked out. Okay. >> All right. >> Hey, stay on the sidewalk. Go to the sidewalk for me. >> Stop moving. Stop moving. >> Okay. Okay. We have the medics on. Okay. It's >> hurting. Don't >> I know. I know. >> And you said your legs are hurting. It's just this leg, sir. >> I don't know what to do, sir. >> Okay, let's just let's stop moving. Okay, >> I can't. I'm holding myself up if I >> Let's move this back. Let's move this back. How's that sound? Please round three. >> It's not It's not You guys, something's like happening. I don't want to die. No. >> Okay. No. No. No. You're not going to die. Hey, look at me. LOOK AT ME. [screaming] >> LOOK AT ME. WHAT'S YOUR NAME? >> STAR. >> STAR. OKAY. STAR. Look at me. Hey. >> Look at me. Don't focus on nothing. >> Look right here. Look. Look. Just look right here at me. Deep breaths. >> Just like that. We got the medics. They're going to be here. They're going to be here in a few minutes. Okay. They're going to check you out. They're going to get you taken care of. Okay. >> Sure. It just needs to stop. >> I know. >> I don't know what to put to position my body. Just >> First thing first, Star >> Star. First thing you got to do, just get some big breaths. Okay. >> I don't want to lose my leg. >> You're not going to lose your leg. >> No, you're not. You're not. >> It doesn't look I don't see any blood. >> I mean, maybe >> you injured your leg, but it's not broke. It's not bleeding. Okay. >> Look. What happened? What is happening? >> It's okay. >> Take a deep breath. Okay. >> Yeah. Bet. >> So, what happened? >> While the victims were fighting for their lives, [music] the suspect started his own pity party. He began claiming he couldn't breathe and mentioned a head injury to anyone who would listen. They always say, "I can't breathe." like it's a magic spell that will [music] make the cops disappear and the charges go away. That person trying to turn himself into a victim was [music] just too much to handle. He showed zero remorse for the innocent people he literally crushed. >> Just heard. Are you okay, ma'am? >> No, >> you don't know. We'll get you checked out too. Okay. >> Okay. So, basically what happened is this guy, he ran over a cop and he he ran away. Okay. >> Is this your >> take some deep breaths? Take some deep breaths and just doing just calm down. You're doing great. Okay, >> you're doing good. The medics will be here very soon. >> Did you get my phone? >> Yeah, I have. >> Did you call me? >> Are you coming? >> Brand all kinds of [ __ ] too. So, >> bro, stoping around. >> I just got off the hospital. I promise. >> Get out the [ __ ] car. >> We're going to have this right here. So we're going to have all northbound Broadway at one shutdown approximately one block south of >> what they >> please tell me that man please stupid man >> sit in there >> sit in there Oh, >> put your feet in there. >> Yes, I'll call him. >> The medics. The medic. >> Medics are coming here as fast as they can. Okay. >> Yes. They're trying to come as fast can. I don't know how the THEY'RE NOT HERE, BUT THE AMBULANCE IS RIGHT AT THE ROAD. >> WE'RE NOT FAR FROM THE HOSPITAL. WHAT THE [ __ ] >> Sounds like they're coming up. >> Are you injured at all? >> I don't know. There's a >> ma'am. Are you injured at all? >> 76 on tree line. [snorts] >> You good? Are you injured? >> 565. >> I'm good. Yeah. >> 735 tree line. >> Doing okay, sir? >> I am. >> Okay. The medics are here. They're going to get you checked out. >> Thank you. >> Yeah, of course. Are is there anything uh we can do for you as of right now? >> No, I think I just have to sit. >> That's That's fair. That's fair. You're taking it a lot better than I would have. You're a lot tougher than I am, sir. >> 313. >> Officers were forced to juggle multiple crises at the same time, including calling an ambulance for one victim and calming another woman whose anger had reached [music] its peak. At the same moment, they were also carrying out a separate investigation involving the suspect. All these factors combined made the situation increasingly complex. Let me get some other guys to promise you like IG's coming. >> Cool. Sounds good. Thank you, sir. >> I don't like to hurt people, man. Like, >> well, you just hurt three, so good job. >> Put your feet in there. >> So, where are you hurt? No. Sit in. >> No, I'm telling you. >> Put your feet in. >> Put your feet in or I'm going to put them in for you. >> All right. I'm sorry. >> What are you What are you hurting? Where are you hurting? What are your injuries? >> My arms. My face. >> What's wrong with your arms? >> Like I just one of my wrist like it just I can't feel it. You can't feel your wrist. >> Like one of them I can't. The other one I can barely feel it. >> Okay. And and what else? >> And like >> So your wrist hurts? >> No. No. My knee. >> Mhm. >> Like my head. Like >> I tried to tell the other officer, "Bro, I just been sexually assaulted multiple times." >> We're talking about right now. Did you report that? >> I tried to talk to him and nobody was on campus. It's like, >> okay, so this is what's going to happen. All right. We're not going to waste There's people here who are actually hurt. Okay, >> look at me. There's people here who are actually hurt. >> They're going to use the ambulance. We're going to take you to the hospital. That's what's going to happen. >> Put your feet in. >> Okay. >> Do you want to get checked out the hospital or you want the guys to check you out vital? You can get checked out the same way both times. >> No, like I just been >> I just like tell two officers before I try to tell officer me and try to explain these officers and I'm not being listened to like >> like bro [clears throat] it's like I try to let him know. I said officer please. >> Okay. So, if you got some head injury, facial injuries, we need to have him assessed. >> So, I know you guys would prefer to take them. Yeah. >> But anytime an individual requests to be assessed, we have to follow EMS prior to this. So, if he wants to be assessed, >> so the head injuries are probably from the use of force, >> which is either way, it's a head injury. >> So, it's it's same thing. Okay. >> Same thing. Yeah. It doesn't matter how it happened, he still has injury. So, >> that's fine. >> If you want to Hey, would you grab a pair to get some vital signs on him real quick? >> You can't just have >> Okay, cool. Appreciate if he doesn't want to go this way. >> No. They're going to come get your vitals. >> Yeah, they're just going to run vitals real quick just cuz of the head injury. >> I don't know. >> Hey, let's get you back in the vehicle. I don't want you falling out. Okay. >> The suspect continued to complain about his wrist and [music] his knee, stalling for time while the real victims waited for ambulances. He even tried to bring up unrelated assaults from the past [music] to distract from the fact that he just committed a violent felony. The officers were [music] way too patient with his nonsense. It was a masterclass in manipulation, but the deputy wasn't buying the hurt criminal routine while a pregnant woman was being loaded onto a stretcher nearby. >> So, anytime someone has a hand injury, there's a they could go into having a seizure sort of stroke. And if we have to transport you without doing an assessment, it's a huge liability for everybody. >> Okay. No, that's fine. get a crew to do an assessment. If the ambulance gets here, we can have them transported by ambulance and then one of you would have to ride in the ambulance with him. >> Okay, perfect. >> I just told the officer pull me over. >> Hey, we're not asking you questions. You just showed up. Sit in there. Look at what you caused. >> I tried to prevent. >> No, you hurt innocent people. >> Put your feet in. >> I don't trust you. right now. The registration's on a big deal. We'll get everything figured out. >> She's in the ambulance. I think they're getting ready to go. >> I don't know. >> Not Not right now. Unfortunately, they got to do their medical stuff. I I apologize. I really wish I could. I understand you guys. I understand. It's not a good situation. I understand. Okay. Okay. >> Ma'am, I know you're elevated. Can I get your name from her? >> She has seizures. I don't want anything to happen. >> No, I worried about Starlight Bones popping out. >> Okay, we'll figure >> What's What's Are they your daughters? >> Yes. >> Okay. What's their name? >> Crystal. Medical evaluation was ongoing, but at the same time, emotional reactions [music] from family members further complicated the situation. Together, everything pushed the scene toward greater tension. It was undoubtedly exhausting. [music] Yet, the officers deserve recognition for continuing to manage the issue calmly and responsibly. [snorts] >> We're going to be bringing the rescue here. >> Where you going? >> Okay. >> Go back over there by the seat. on blocking eastbound. >> 313 is blocking eastbound. Ask him. He's the boss right now. Oh my knee. >> Oh my knee, dog. >> We're going to cut your pants open and look at your knee. >> We are. Go stay on the Go stay on the street. >> Seems like you don't >> Go on the street. You're in the middle of the street. Go on the street. >> We have things we got to go through. >> Go on the sidewalk. Go on theing sidewalk. How many times I got to tell you that? >> Yeah. Let's go walk. [screaming] >> So when I ran this way, I ate [ __ ] right there on that. I ate [ __ ] right there. >> That's why I was by myself. >> Yeah. Well, cuz I was right behind him. >> I was right behind him and then I I just I ate [ __ ] right there and then I holstered. >> You did eat [ __ ] right there. I was running up. >> Well, I have no contact with him right now. I'm going to go off. >> This tragedy was [music] entirely preventable if the suspect had just accepted his suspended license status. Instead, [music] he chose to destroy lives over a piece of metal on his bumper. He showed the world that [music] he valued his freedom more than the safety of a pregnant woman or a random driver. It was a disgusting display of ego that ended with a neighborhood in ruins and multiple people heading to the emergency room for no reason. The suspect faced a heavy list of charges, including receiving stolen property, reckless driving, evading police, and causing serious bodily harm. Both victims suffered broken bones, though they luckily survived the suspect's [music] lethal stupidity. It's infuriating that an innocent pregnant woman had to suffer because some guy didn't want to deal with a suspended [music] license. That person trying to turn himself into a victim was too much for anyone with a soul to handle. If you think the justice system needs to get tougher on these reckless cowards, hit that [music] like button.
