receipt and >> she was intoxicated. >> She was really intoxicated. Okay. >> So, and I knew I kind don't like taking her out, but she insisted to go in Walmart to get the stuff for. And when we were there, I did see that she approached the woman, but I didn't hear the part where she was offering money for the baby. She was just staring at the baby. And I did do say a remark, oh, he's a cute baby. What's his name? You [music] know, just like and she told me the name >> and I was like, okay. On January 13th, 2022, inside a Walmart in Crockett, Texas, an ordinary shopping trip took a shocking turn. A woman approached a mother in the checkout line and offered to buy her child. What seemed like an unbelievable moment quickly turned into a serious criminal case of attempted purchase of a minor. [music] This is the disturbing story of how a routine day at the store became the scene of an unthinkable crime. This says 115 on her thing. >> Yeah, it is. >> Hi, Rebecca. It's Lieutenant Press at Crockett Police Department. How are you? >> I'm good. >> Good. >> Why are you at my front door? >> Cuz I got a call. I wanted to talk to you about something today. >> Okay. Could it be that um I don't know. Mom, get over here. There. There cops are at my door as usual. Could it be because I adopted $7,000 worth of tiny puppies and they're in my room? >> No. >> Then what's about >> um a conversation you had with a girl at Walmart earlier? Do you remember that about her kid? >> Yeah. >> Can you tell me what that conversation was about? >> Um okay. So, I don't like it when people steal at the Walmart. No one want get over here and witness this. How about this? Um, I'm going to say when I see people stealing stuff at the Walmart, I don't like it because I have to pay for it. Oh, there are cops at my door right now. Mom, >> what? Hello. >> Hey, how are you? I'm >> fine. >> Hey, I'm Lieutenant Press Crockett Police Department. Do you want to talk in front of your mom or >> Hello, Dave? I'll let my lawyer talk to you. I did nothing wrong and I don't even know why you're on my precipice, so get off. >> Okay. >> Have a good day. I'll file for it. Hey, Rebecca. How are you? >> Good. >> Hey, can you step outside for me, please? >> Um, >> come on. Step outside. >> Outside. Rebecca, I need to talk to you. Okay. We got a warrant for your arrest. Okay. >> Come on. >> Wait a second. >> Step outside. >> I'm going to call my lawyer. Okay. >> You can call him at the jail. Come on. Come on, Rebecca. >> Hey, I need to talk to you. Actually, >> were the puppy dogs that I was calling babies? The two Pomeranians in the baby? >> Hey, it's okay. >> From the start, this moment feels less like a police visit and more like a reality check landing on Rebecca Taylor's doorstep. When officers show up asking about Walmart, she's quick to change topics. First, it's puppies, then random complaints. It's classic deflection mode, but beneath the surface, you can sense she knows exactly what's coming next. >> Can I Can I ID you? Because I >> the day at Walmart, that's what it's all about. So, can I have your ID and I'm going to just take your information down and talk to you about it? >> Put your ID on you, Rebecca? >> I have. Can I take my jewelry off, please? Well, it's inside. >> You want to leave it with her? You want to leave your jewelry with her? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Okay. She'll have to take it off for you. Okay. If you want to grab her some shoes, you can too. >> Okay. Got you. >> Do you want me to take your bracelets off, Rebecca? >> I think she can handle. >> Okay. >> Am I going into a jail cell? >> Yes, ma'am. >> And what is the >> the charge of sale or purchase of >> sale or purchase of >> Yes, ma'am. >> which I did not do. Well, I tried to come talk to you about it the other day to get your side and you told me to leave, so I had to leave. And >> can we talk about it right now? >> Well, if you want to call your attorney, I'm not going to talk to you without your attorney. >> Okay. Can I call him and have him come over? >> Yeah. And if you guys want to talk at the jail, I can come down there and talk to you. >> But I'm going to jail no matter what. >> Yes, you are. >> Okay. >> Soap. >> Yeah. If not, it'll go in her property. It's all on camera. And then where are your shoes at? >> They're going to be right in me. Can I put a little on this to get it off? >> No, we'll take it off at the jail. >> Not here. >> You want to get some shoes real real quick? Get out of here. >> And while she's getting your shoes, I'm going to search you. Okay. So, just turn and face the wall for me. Do you have anything on it that's going to poke me, stick me or stab me? >> No, ma'am. >> No. Anything you leave along you? >> No, ma'am. >> Okay. All right. Spread your legs as hard as you can. There you go. >> Ready? Let's go on this one right here. Okay. >> My patrol car down the road right here. The first one. >> Yeah. >> I'm going to go on the passenger side and the back. Okay. >> Okay. >> All right. Good. All right. Come on. You good? I make sure the car is on. >> When officers return with a warrant, Rebecca's calm starts cracking. She tries small talk, even brings up her Pomeranians as if that'll slow down the cuffs, but the officers stay patient and buy the book, giving her space, letting her gather her things. It's polite, almost gentle, but everyone knows where this moment is heading next. Step back there for a minute. I'm check the back seat down real quick. Hang tight for us. I'm going check back here and make sure nothing back here. I'm going check again once you get you out. Okay. >> All right. All right. You good? I'mma reach around. got a camera on. Put the seat belt on. Okay. >> Mhm. >> All right. You might have to go around and see my partner going to go around here. >> All righty. There we go. What's your name? Okay. Nice to meet you. Um, so can you tell me what you heard or what? Well, actually, we went to pick up the stuff for the puppies and they're inside that room. She was going to get puppies that >> Yeah. I saw her receipt. >> She was intoxicated. >> She was really intoxicated. >> So, and I knew I kind don't like taking her out, but she insisted to go to Walmart to get the stuff for the puppies. >> And you drove, right? I saw that on camera. >> Drive. And I don't drink at all. So, and when we were there, I did see that she approached the woman, but I didn't hear the part where she was offering money for the baby. She was just staring at the baby. And I did do say a remark, "Oh, he's a cute baby. What's his name?" You know, just like, >> and she told me the name. >> And I was like, "Okay." And we just walked out. She happened to be parked next to my car. Yeah. >> So, I was like, "It was just a coincidence, I But she already was like, if she told her that, she was already scared, I guess, or panicked that something was going to happen. >> Okay. >> I mean, I'll be in the same situation. >> She said she offered her $250,000. >> Okay. Then did you hear her approach her again outside in the parking lot? >> Um, the only thing when I I kept walking in my car. You can see the surveillance camera. I kept walking in my car trying to put the stuff in the car. I did not hear anything. Um, the only thing that I saw is like that she was behind me, the lady with the babies with her kids. And then once I was trying, I'm like, "Rebecca, just get in the car." You know, cuz I was just like, "It's another her things, you know, but >> but you didn't hear what she was saying outside cuz the girl said that Rebecca was >> with Rebecca in [music] custody." Officers turned to her assistant who paints a clearer picture. She claims Rebecca was intoxicated that day and oddly fixated on a stranger's baby at Walmart. What she calls just a compliment doesn't match what the mother told police an alleged $250,000 offer. And if that sounds unbelievable, the evidence soon fills in the blanks. >> Yelling at her outside. >> No, I think she just said, "I want me some Colt." That's what I I heard cuz she was laughing. >> She said, "I want me some Colt." >> Yeah. Or something like that. But that's how she gets Oh, she gets worse when she's intoxicated. Do you know if it's just alcohol or if it's prescription or if it's something else or >> that day she had tequila shots. >> She had tequila shots. >> Yeah, we were at Tatas and I was not drinking and we were talking with the >> um servers that were there two 4072 407 one white female 307 and this is how she gets when she drinks like hard liquor. >> Yeah. Um, and does she take anything when she drinks? >> I don't know. >> Or do you know about her medication or anything? >> I don't know anything about that she's taking medication. No. >> Okay. >> No. But um when she drinks like to >> Okay. >> Um do you have your ID with you? Okay. Thank you so much. I'll have to put you down as um um an involved party. Okay. >> [clears throat] >> I was not aware of a local. >> So this was like the vehicle I saw on camera. Is this the one y'all were driving? Yeah. >> That's what had me going crazy and at the same time I was laughing about it because I was like we were not I mean I was not there for any harm. So >> yeah. What do you do when you work for her? >> Um, I clean her house. I stay here with her. I love her mom. It's like taking care of her. >> Yeah. She's like an adult babysitter. >> Yes. Is she Does she for so many years? >> Oh, really? Does she have problems or is is it just her alcoholism? >> No, it's just alcoholism. >> Okay. Okay. >> How did you meet her? um she was having a state sale actually and she had a bag with a lot of money there and I'm like you cannot leave your bag, you know, out there. So, and I was with my mother-in-law that day also cuz we were going to state sales or garage sales. >> Mhm. >> And um and that's when she I guess she trusted me. I mean, I can't >> Yeah. >> As Rebecca heads to booking, her employee fills in the blanks. She recalls that Rebecca had been drinking tequila earlier and was heavily intoxicated at Walmart, acting oddly around a woman and her baby. What sounds like a simple misunderstanding starts to look different, especially once the assistant admits this kind of behavior wasn't exactly new. >> Your license plate because that's the vehicle that was on camera and I couldn't see the license plate on camera. I'll tell you like after I got the complaint, I went to Walmart and they pulled the surveillance footage and everything and I just wanted to to first find out who it was and then also find out if there was truth to it cuz it's such you know it was >> I mean I fell with her too, you know, if I was if if I was she she didn't know us so and then she sees a blonde lady and a Mexican lady. Come on. Yeah, she'll be suspicious about it. And of course, I mean, honestly, like we've had calls on Rebecca, but I don't know what she's involved in. I don't know if she buys, if she, you know, >> I've been here when the cops are here, you know, it wasn't you. It's another elderly man, you know, and they come and go because she always makes things up. >> She's not right now. She's not that intoxicated. So, she's the sweetest person. You know, if she was put in a fight, right? >> She kicked me off her property. >> I tell you, she was she would be put in a fight. Yes. >> Okay. Yeah. >> Well, that day, if you came the day that it happened >> then. Yes. She was really like drink like drunk. >> I came probably. >> She got mad at me. She said, "Well, you told the cops my address." I'm like, "No, I haven't even talked to somebody." >> I didn't know who you were. I didn't even know who who what she was talking about what happened until >> the same. >> I happened to see the post cuz all my I have a lot of friends like they shared it. I was like oh my god that's why. >> Yeah. What's your phone number? >> I normally put this in my phone. >> Yeah. >> Oh, so you're from California. >> Are you related to the quantos around here though? Okay. Um, okay. >> Okay. Thank you. >> 307 County, Texas 28. >> Just print and hold, please. All right. Well, I appreciate you talking to me. Um, yeah, I not you I don't have >> Taylor's story takes a darker turn here. The assistant's words paint a picture of someone spiraling, drinking often, arguing, and clutching bags of cash like they were part of her identity. That odd behavior at Walmart wasn't just a random outburst. It was the breaking point of something that had been brewing for a long time, and it's about to show >> or anything like that. It was definitely on her. The girl said that you never offered any money or anything like that. So, I just needed to kind of get your side and see, especially since Rebecca wouldn't talk to me and, you know, figure out what happened, what was said, and so All righty. >> That's okay. >> Just make sure she doesn't offer to buy someone's kid again. >> I know. >> Yeah. So, >> I mean, I had stopped her from saying or We have a code word. K. Okay. Well, you're doing too much talking when she's intoxicated. I'm like, don't because she does get a little bit, you know, crazy when she drinks a lot. >> Yeah, she does. Okay. I appreciate it. I hope you have a good day. >> Have a good day. >> Bye. >> County, Texas. >> Oh, that's fine. They know who you are. They >> You got it with you or at home? Lincoln, >> you got it with you? The ID with you? >> Oh, that's fine. That's fine. They get it. Yeah, they get it. All right, we'll take the seat belt off. All right. All right. And go ahead and get out. Watch your step. Got a running board in the ground there. All right, you stand right here for me. All right, walk around to the front of the vehicle, take a left and stop on the M at the door. Go ahead and stand on the wall to the right and stay right here till they come with you. >> As the officer wraps up, it's clear he's more relieved than suspicious. This witness isn't the problem, but her words add weight to the story. Rebecca's drinking, impulsive offers, and strange behavior weren't one-offs. They paint a picture of someone detached from reality, and just when it feels resolved, the case takes another quiet but telling turn. Rebecca Taylor. >> Hu C A E B E C C A L Taylor. T A Y L O What >> time you go? >> Um >> 3:36 >> recently outside United States recently outside of Houston County for Brooklyn highrisisk populations. um the hospital right here in town because I thought you guys someone ran over me on the square and you guys were supposed to get back and maybe you did it. I was hit on June Friday, Black Friday, whatever that uh holiday is. >> Sore throat, headache, muscle aches, chills, nausea problem, abdominal pain, diarrhea. Asthma, lung disease, COPD, smoke or diabetes, pregnant, kidney disease, liver disease, heart disease, joins. >> Good. All right, Miss Taylor, go ahead. >> Inside the patrol car, Rebecca sits calmly as officers run through routine questions. Travel history, health issues, basic info. But under that steady tone lies tension. It's the quiet after a storm where reality starts to sink in. Her answers sound detached, almost rehearsed, like someone trying to sound fine while the world watches closely. Rebecca Lynette Taylor was charged under Texas Penal Code 25.08 for the sale or purchase of a child, a thirdderee felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. She was later released on a $50,000 bond with strict conditions restricting her contact with minors. In the end, if you enjoyed the video, hit that like button and drop your thoughts in the comments.
