Yes. >> On July 2nd, 2023, [music] a chaotic scene unfolded in Dunwoody, Georgia. After a hit-and-run driver thought she could vanish into the night, officers tracked her down quickly. [music] But the real drama began when the suspect, Adria, started spinning a web of bizarre excuses. [music] Her performance was as messy as the damage to her car. >> Hello. >> Hey, how you doing? >> Are you hurt? >> No, I ain't hurt. Okay. Can Can you show me the damage real quick? >> Yeah. It's on that side. Right there. >> This side. All right. Where were you at when it happened? >> We was right there. We was right here about to make a left and I'm about to get ready to take my car. >> That's important. She had a red paint transfer on the back corner panel. >> She hit my car. Actually, it was a friend that I was dropping off. She took off. >> Okay. Did you see if it was a male or female driver? >> Stop. Stop the car. >> I stopped it. >> Put it in park. >> I did, but you all in the way, sir. >> Yeah, cuz you're getting stopped. >> Be out on the vehicle complex. >> Huh? >> Get out of the car. >> Yeah, I'm okay. >> Put your hands behind your back. >> What? I did. >> Put your hands behind. There should be a female driver. >> Put your hands behind your back. >> But what did I do? You don't do stuff like that. >> You know the lady that did that? >> Yeah. >> Who is it? >> Who is What's her name? >> Her name is Andria. I don't know. I forgot her last name. We just came out and everything. I said, "Give me your insurance card. We I didn't have to call you. I'm not You know what I'm saying? I'm a business woman. I don't do stuff like that." >> Can you hang that up real quick? I'm just trying to figure out some info real quick. >> Okay. >> Um where were What were you on? I was right there >> on uh Hammond Drive right here. >> About to make a left right >> on Hammond Drive where those cars are going. >> Yeah. About to make a left. >> Okay. >> You left her car right here. You came from a concert. Dropped her off. I I was like, "Look, I'm going home. I got to work in the morning." She trying to go home. Go home. >> Okay. So, you're driving >> about to make a left and get ready. Go back home. >> Okay. >> You follow me. Bam. Hit my car. >> Where she What part of her car hit your car? I said, "You hit my car." >> So, you were in the left turning lane and she came up. So, I'm assuming the damage on her front lefth hand side. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Where's the damage to that vehicle? >> The damage on our vehicle where I'm at right now is going to be the back right hand side. the damage on the vehicle you're out on the front lefth hand side possibly. >> From the moment officers approached, she acted shocked that the police existed. While the red paint on her bumper told a very different [music] story, embarrassment clearly wasn't a factor in her decisions. With zero class, [music] she couldn't claim shame convincingly, making the scene almost comically predictable. >> Uh middle or the front left? >> You turn around. Have a seat on the uh front left. There you go. >> Where you coming from? >> Huh? >> Where you coming from? >> From a concert. >> Where at? >> It was um I think >> What was you doing at the concert? >> Watching it with a friend. With a couple of friends. >> Were y'all drinking? >> No. >> No drinking at all. We got everything. Don't lie. >> I'm not coming. I'm not coming. I'm not hitting anybody. I got in an argument with somebody, but I didn't hit nobody. My car been up. You can see the the other car doesn't the other see other car the other door. >> So you got in an argument with somebody? >> Yeah. >> What kind of car were they driving? >> Hello. If a black car >> a black car, what were y'all arguing about? >> Oh, some stupid stuff. >> You don't know them, but y'all just arguing about stupid stuff in the middle of the road. >> Huh? >> You don't even know them. And y'all just arguing about stupid stuff in the middle of the road. >> No, I'm not arguing over stupid stuff in the middle of the road. We just got in an argument and I left. >> What was the argument about? >> Hm. >> What was the argument about? >> Some stupid stuff with >> Okay. Some stupid stuff with a girl. >> Stupid stuff with a girl. >> Yeah. Over a guy. >> What she look like? >> What? >> The girl you were arguing with. >> What? Brown skin. >> You said you ain't had nothing to drink. No. >> No. >> Um, you said you know her is a friend. And Adria. >> Yes. Um, what's her last name? >> I don't even know her last name. >> How do you know her if you don't mind me asking? >> I know her. I met her. My son and her son used to play football together. >> Okay. Um, how old is she about? >> She got to be about I'm 50. She got to be She's younger than me. She's probably about 30, 35. >> Okay. And then, uh, has she been drinking tonight or anything or she did any did any or drugs or anything? >> I You know what? I was at the concert. She was up top. I'm in my seat and everything like that, too. I just had an extra ticket and I treated her and >> All right. So, you say how much did you drink? Can I turn the lights on? >> No, I didn't have nothing to drink. I had we got into an argument. >> You had nothing to drink, but you said you were at a concert. >> No, I said we was at a concert. We had fun. >> Some old school concert. It was >> old school music. >> Yeah. >> All right. Do me a favor. Sit over here for me, please. All right. So, I just want to make sure that you're not intoxicated. Okay. I'm not saying you are. >> I'm not. Don't be scaring me. >> Well, you did hit another car. Okay. >> I didn't hit no car. We got into an argument, but I didn't hit no car. She's right. >> I need to call somebody and ring that. All right. So, would you be willing to get uh do a couple tests just make sure >> it's called Phil test. It's just a couple things you got. Hold on. Listen to me. You're not free to go right now. Okay. I just want to make sure that you're straight to drive. The reason why I'm asking, the reason why I'm asking, I can smell alcohol coming from your person. Okay. >> Her story twisted constantly. First denying contact, then blaming a black car, then a friend. Each explanation sounded weaker than the last. She tried to manipulate the narrative while clearly panicking, showing how disastrous [music] poor judgment combined with entitlement could be. >> So I want to make sure that you are okay to drive and you're okay to drive and I determine that you're okay to drive, more than likely you will go home. Okay? But I need to I need to make sure that you are. So I'm asking you what you wish you could deny it or you don't you don't have to. Can y'all please take my car to my son and let him know that I'm out here, please? Cuz he have to go to a training in the morning. >> I would do the test. I just I was embarrassed right here. >> If we can go somewhere else, I'll do the test, sir. >> I'll do the paperwork and you do. >> No, please sir. I would do it. I do the paperwork. >> No, sir. Sir, sir, I talk to somebody. >> You can talk to me. I don't want to go to jail. Walk. How would you talk to me? He's >> How is your son? He's 18. That's a He can handle it himself. >> No, please. I'm about to I'm about to read you something. >> Can you talk to me, please? Whatever y'all wanted me to do, I do it. I was just embarrassed out here. Look at all these people coming. There ain't nobody coming. >> I don't want my neighborhood to see me doing that. I would take a test. >> Yes, I will. I just didn't want to do it in front of everybody. That's embarrassing. If y'all wanted me to take a test, I would do it. Please. I'm not drunk. >> I'm going to read you something. Okay. >> Please don't let lock me up. I don't I have to go to work in the morning. Now, what what are you asking me to do? >> Are you going to submit to the chemical test of your blood? She insisted she hadn't consumed alcohol, while the evidence suggested otherwise. Her excuses about embarrassment and public display rang hollow. Zero class often leads to zero credibility, and she wore both like badges of honor throughout the incident. >> What you mean? >> I You didn't listen. >> Y'all going to stick me with a needle? >> You didn't listen to a single thing I just read? >> Yeah, but you going to stick me with a needle. >> They have to draw blood. Is it yes or no? What? What does that mean? >> That's going to determine whether or not you under under the influence of any alcohol or drugs. >> But I'm saying you locking me up. >> I can't explain nothing else to you. I just need a yes or no. >> But can you ask me something? >> You got me under handcuffs. What does that mean? >> Listen, I will talk to you about all that. I just need a yes or a no from >> Yeah, but I'm scared. Last time I said last time I said I understand you're scared. >> Last time I said no, you got me under handcuffs. I'm scared, sir. All right. You don't need an ambulance or anything. >> All right. You have a good day, ma'am. >> All right. What? >> Tell my son Can I tell my son something? >> She begged, bargained, and flailed while claiming her mental health and fear justified everything. The rage simmering beneath her voice became obvious. Her son, calm and collected, contrasted sharply with her erratic behavior, showing a maturity she failed to demonstrate. >> Yeah. One second. But y'all start arguing again. I'm rolling out the windows and y'all ain't talking no more. >> Okay. All right, y'all got 25 seconds, okay? >> And I'm going let you call your your dad and then he's going to be going. >> And I'm sorry. But she fought with me and I left. I shouldn't have left. I should have stayed for the police, but I didn't want to fight with her and I'm sorry. >> How did your car get hit? Huh? >> How did your car get hit? >> My car been hit. But they hit you. I want Yeah, but I want to tell you this. Tomorrow you go to work. Please go to work at 10:00. >> Let's go get Let's go get her phone out of the car and you can take it. >> I'm trying to go. I don't know who I was talking to on the phone. So, we try to get her burned out. >> The cab. >> The cab county. >> Yep. >> Okay. >> And what she being charged with? >> DUI and hit and run. >> Okay. We going to come get this. It's okay. Well, you didn't do the test. That's That's the law. >> I told him I would have did. It would come out here. I ain't want them to see me doing that. I just It's embarrassing to do this in front of everybody out here. >> Okay. >> But I'll do it. Like I'll do it. >> Well, it's too late now. >> No, but I didn't know. You told me yes or no. I didn't know if I say no. I didn't know it mean you go to jail. I didn't know that. I never been in this type of before. >> That's a clue. If I tell you yes or no, >> but I ain't never been in this type of before. I would have I still do it. I do it now. >> Oh, we can't now though. We can't. >> I told you. I was like I didn't know. It's embarrassing. Like everybody out here. I don't want everybody to like my son is a D1 athlete. That is embarrassing. He going to have done with it high. I didn't want my neighbors to see me doing it right here. But I'll do it. I still do it. I just didn't know. I'm going to have her house. >> She used the conversation with her son to spin a story of victimhood, blaming another woman for the incident. Her excuses piled up, each more absurd than the last. Watching her lie to justify fleeing was like observing a public audition for poor decision-making. Why I can't do the test? >> Why you didn't tell me that? >> I didn't tell you what. >> You didn't tell me if I say no, you lock me up. I didn't know that. Why you tell me? You told me yes or no. That's not What do I How do I supposed to know? Why you can't test me? You can't take me for no jail for no DUI. You didn't even test me. I got in with that crazy ass. Look at the camera. I got in with her and I left. I told her, I said, "You got my information. Call whoever you want to call, but I'm not going to fight with her. Can I go to jail? That's why Iing left. >> Well, you know the quickest way to go to jail, >> huh? >> The quickest The way you got yourself in going to jail is cuz you fled the scene of an accident. >> No, because she want to fight. Like if I fight with somebody, I'm going to jail. You know that. Come on. >> Not necessarily. >> Yes, it is. She Look at the camera. You said you looked at it. You didn't look at it. >> No, I didn't look at the camera. >> That's what I'm saying. You didn't look at this. If you looked at it, you'll see. >> Another officer went over there. >> I'm not going to fight for that woman. I sat in your apartment complex and waited on you to come. >> Yeah. And you scared the out of me. I didn't know what the [ __ ] was going on. This is crazy. I ain't never been in jail in my mother life. I ain't never been in jail. And I'm not going to argue with no girl. Like they jealous of me. I'm not going to argue with him. My son going to go through my mothering phone. He going to see all my naked. I don't like that. I don't want that [ __ ] on my phone. He going to see every thing I did. Like damn. >> What you been doing? >> No, I'm just saying like I'm a ladies man. I don't want to see that. Like my son crazy as hell. I don't want I don't want him thinking my mother. You know what I'm saying? So I don't want him to see that. >> What you been sending pictures? >> No. You know how we have in our phones like he go that that there he going to go through my whole motherucking phone. He going to read my text messages like god damn. I didn't want him to have my [ __ ] >> You told me to give it to him >> because I rather him have it than the police and because then I at least I know it's at home. >> You were going to keep your phone with you? >> I didn't know. I ain't never been through this before. How do I know? >> Cuz I told you. >> Because I don't know. But you leaving me, you going to drop me the [ __ ] off. AND I DON'T KNOW what people going to do to me. >> They're not going to do nothing to you. >> How you know you going to leave me? >> You know how many people I take in the jail? >> No people. What about me? They might do to my mother ass before I go in there. You going have to talk to me outside before you take me in there. I don't want to go in there unless I talk to you. Don't talk. Don't take me in there unless you talk to me outside. I'm going to talk to you outside >> cuz I can't damn here and I have mental illness. Like I don't want to damn >> What are you diagnosed with? >> I'm I mean I my mom died in 2001. So I'm I'm real depressed and and I have anxiety real real bad and like I'm kind of I'm kind of crazy. You know what I'm saying? I talk too much. Like I go I go off and stuff. I don't mean it. But I can't control what I say. >> I hate her. Like I would never. Officers remained patient as she spun narratives that made her seem fragile yet entitled. She admitted little, exaggerated much, and treated rules like suggestions. It was evident that embarrassment didn't exist for her. >> I hate her. I would never ever again do everybody hate me. Why everybody hate me so much? I don't want to talk to nobody bad. I don't talk to nobody, man. I don't do that. Don't just be talking to me. >> I don't want to go. >> I know. I can't talk to you. I've been here all night. >> Yeah, probably. >> Get me out of this. Who it is? >> Walk that way. >> Get me out of this. >> Walk that way. >> I want to go in there. You going to leave me, please. I don't want to go in there. Tell me what what's been happening to me. >> You going to sit in the You going to sit in the holding cell. >> Okay. >> I'll talk to you when we stand up here. We're going to be standing up here for a minute. You going to sit in the holding cell until you can bond out or until you see a judge. We'll stand right here. You can lean up against that pole if you need. >> What they come here? What? What? What are you charging me for? >> Um DUI and hit and run. >> Why you charging me for DUI? >> That ain't my name on this. I'm not charging you with nothing. Who is >> the other officer? >> But he ain't talk to me. So how he charging? >> He did talk to you. He's the one that asked if you want. >> You asked me, baby. You asked me cuz you the one said, "Put your hand behind your back." You asked me. Why you keep saying you didn't? >> I wasn't the only one with short hair. >> But I was looking at your ass. >> You was standing right there talking to you. You were like, you were like, "Um, you said you want to do it or not." >> I said, "What if I say no? What happened?" >> You would tell me. I said, >> that was a whole different sense. >> So I was like, "I don't know." And he was like, "Put your hand. me out there >> and I was like, "Why?" I was like, "Wait a minute. I do it. I do it. I do it. I do it." You like You like >> That wasn't me. That was a different officer. >> That was you though. >> No, it wasn't. >> I'm scared. Don't Don't let them take me. >> Stay right there. >> Stand right there. >> Stand right there. >> Why you doing like that? >> Why you doing me like that? >> What? >> Why you being mean to me? >> I mean, you just stand right there. >> I don't feel comfortable right there. >> You walking all along me. >> Because that's how I am. I don't mean to be like that. It's just that I'm confused because y'all confused me and I was just talking to you. >> Just imagine. >> I'm sorry. I was just talking. >> We got to Adria continued to argue that she shouldn't be charged with a DUI because she wasn't tested, [music] ignoring the fact that she was the one who refused the test. Her logic was as broken as her bumper and the cuffs stayed exactly where they belonged. >> My seat took my seat. >> You can tell back to me now. You tired of my ass. >> Why? >> Little bit. You tired of me. >> I'm scared. I ain't never been in my mother life. Y'all from me. Please be nice to me. >> Oh, I got mental issues on me. Oh, >> I just tell you how I do. It's on paper. I got five. >> All right. Remember when I asked you for your blood? >> Remember when I asked you for your blood? >> Yeah. >> I read you that paper and you didn't listen to me. >> I did.
