Hey everyone. Uh, today we've got a Walmart theft case where a woman was already known to the store and things got even more complicated when officers try to question her about the merchandise. >> My Arabic >> one minute in Arabic. In Arabic me everything in my Arabic in hijab. >> Put your hand behind your back. >> You're not doing this. Take this off. >> I'm not going to do this with you. Turn around and put your hand behind your back. >> You're not going to do this. On Saturday, March 28th, 2026, around 2:45 p.m., officers responded to a Walmart on North Allen Road in Peoria, after loss prevention reported a suspected shoplifter. The store already knew the woman from previous theft incidents and officers were called after she allegedly walked past the [music] final point of sale without paying for merchandise. Once the officers started asking questions, another issue came up. She claimed there was a language barrier, but as the conversation continued, officers had to figure out exactly how much she understood and what happened to the merchandise. Well, we've got quite a story today. So, let's get right into the footage. >> Oh, hello, ma'am. We need to talk to you. I need you to come with me. No, we need you to come in the office. Okay. >> Okay. >> Leave the car. Leave the car. >> Go in the Go in the office, please. >> I need you to have a seat back here for me. >> Okay. Don't have a seat for me in the back. >> The back? >> No. Have a seat. >> Sit down. >> Yeah. >> Sit down. >> Yeah. Do you have an ID on you? >> ID. >> Yeah. A driver's license. A >> little bit. Okay. So, so you're being stopped right now. You're technically detained, which means you're not free to leave. Okay. For the suspicion of retail theft. Do you know what that means? >> Like when you steal from a store. When you take something without paying. >> No. >> Okay. Cuz there was a couple things on the video there. >> No. >> Okay. >> You don't understand. Okay. See, I'm trying to get you >> trying to see if I can make you understand. What language do you speak? Look in the in the story to any think at this thing. >> One minute. >> She say I need I need >> It's okay. Yeah. So, just take a seat here. >> Yeah. Well, I need a >> The biggest problem here might not even be the alleged theft. It could be the language barrier. When there is a serious language problem during an investigation, officers may need an interpreter or another reliable way to communicate. You know, a person being detained should be able to understand as much as possible what is happening and why. >> The manager, I need the manager. She say, "No, I one minute." >> Well, that's the only reason why we're here. >> She say, "You crazy." >> Okay. Well, just take a seat. Okay. Just take a seat. >> Like I said, okay, and we'll figure this out. >> We'll figure this out. She's saying she wasn't here. She was in Chicago. That's not true. I've got her um her license plate if we need to confirm it. See if we can get that here. It's the same car she pulled up in today. >> Wow. Ma'am, >> one minute. >> Look. >> Is that your car? >> No, >> that's not your car. Can you go back to the picture of her? >> It's also the same clothes she was wearing me >> in in his barbar. This is the car in his bag. >> So that's not you. >> Look. >> Look. Look at the date. 3 A26. >> No, no, in here in Chicago. No, in the first and she say my Arabic one minute in Arabic. In Arabic me everything in my Arabic sh in hijab my my my sister look. >> You're wearing this one minute. >> Okay, we're not going to Okay, listen. We're not going to argue this. No, we're not doing this. No, >> we're not doing this. Turn around. Put your hands behind your back. We're not doing this. Take this off. >> I'm not going to do this with you. Turn around and put your hands behind your back. >> Not going TO DO THIS. STOP. >> DON'T TOUCH. Don't touch. Please. Don't touch. You can call him all you want over there. >> My baby, me and baby in the home. I need talk. >> I'm pretty sure you're not going to leave him out there by himself. Don't let him make phone calls out there. >> 1 minute. >> Come on. I'll take you out to my car. >> One minute. No. 1 minute. I need to >> you want you want another charge for resisting you want another charge for resisting? >> What >> do you want to get charged for resisting? >> Then just cooperate. >> Understand? >> Just cooperate. I'm going to walk you out to my car. >> What? >> I'm going to walk you out to my car. Okay, we're going to talk out there. >> No, understand. I need talk. I need talk in the brother. Come any brother. No me. No me. I ass stop. No me. She said wa know me wa know me in my sister in ns in dress and ns in in the hair ns in the sh stop don't touch don't touch please don't touch >> don't touch don't touch >> no >> do you want to come or not >> okay I >> I will force you out I will force you out >> she's full of air I don't think she talks like that all the time. It seems like she's trying to make the language barrier bigger than it really is. Man, she's just so fake. For some Okay, so for someone who says she doesn't understand English, she sure seems to understand quite a lot. Ma'am, I understand that you want to help, but repeatedly refusing instructions while you're being detained probably isn't the best strategy. >> What? [screaming] >> No. Is that what you want to do? 1 minute, please. Please repeat it. Please you need money. I need She say no. WHO SAY NO ME in Chicago? No. >> Oh, there you are. >> There we go. >> You trying to fight? >> No. Come on. Let's go. >> She say no, please. >> Ma'am, please. You're going to make it up. >> You're [laughter] going to pick up charges. Get out. >> Okay. I need brother. I need talk in the brother. >> No, we're not doing that right now. I told you no. I need to talk in the brother please. Not not in not in number. Not in >> No, I haven't checked her yet. >> You got anything on you? >> No. No. >> I need to talk to the brother. >> You don't need to talk to anybody right now. >> All right, Lex. >> So, you're saying that she wasn't here, that she was in Chicago. Like, hey, do you remember being here? Mar, no. I was in Chicago. Something about Ramadan, whatever. >> So, dude had like the video up of her car like, "Wait, is that your car?" She was like, "No, >> it's not my car." Like he was like, "Dude, that's the same car she walked in with." Then he pulled up a whole picture of her with the same outfit. >> Mhm. >> And I was like, >> I was like, "So that's not you?" She said, "No, that's not me." >> How come I'm doing this with you, dog? I'm not. >> Her purses in there, her wallet, and her phone. I had to take it away from her >> cuz I was like, "We're not we're not doing this with you." And then she kind of tried to like resist a little bit, but I'm not going to charge her. >> She doesn't understand. Um I'm going to try to read her her rights. >> Okay. >> See if she wants to talk. Um probably won't. >> We both have over and is this under or over? 18 and 14. >> You'll be able to call them from Pure County. >> What? >> You'll be able to call them from Pure County. >> Please. One minute in my husband. Please. No. Close the door. >> No. I'm going to talk to you out there so you can hear me better >> cuz I'm Cuz No, it's not going to be the way you want it. Okay. It's going to be the way it's not going to be the way you want it. Okay. >> They speak perfect English until I get caught. Her voice is also just extremely annoying. These people clearly don't care about the law. She thinks she's in control. >> Okay. How well is your English? >> Me in English? >> Yeah. How well is it >> in English? No. Speak in English. >> Okay. So, here's the thing. Okay. We're going to use Google Translate. Okay. >> Yeah. >> All right. Give me one second. >> She say me wall say me. No, she say in bag in a receipt with me and and and in study with me. Wait, why? >> What? >> Okay, it's I I'll explain it to you. Okay. Well, this is how we do things. Okay. >> What you need? >> So, you have the right to remain silent. Okay. Hold on. >> Look in. >> Do you want to do this? Yes or no? >> One minute. One minute. >> No. No. We need to do this now. There is no one minute. >> We need to do this. Can we Can I do this now? >> No. Okay, I'm done. >> That's fine. >> You tell her I need to take a picture or two. >> Oh. >> Uh, that uh trespass is also lifelong. It won't be able to be taken away. >> Okay. >> You go. >> No. No. In picture? No. With me? In picture? No. >> Okay. Well, they have you video. No, >> she doesn't want to do the picture. No, I need picture. No, >> no picture. >> No picture. >> That's fine. We got picture. >> She's my Muslim. No picture. >> Okay. >> Do you know what a trespass is? >> No understand. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> What you need? >> A trespass. Do you know what a trespass is? >> No. No. >> Hold on. I'm I'm going I'm going to give her the Google definition. I don't want to get this wrong. >> Receipt come back. Super literally >> me in in Balestine. Not coming in America. >> Me? >> Mhm. >> What? Why? >> You didn't want to talk. You didn't want to let me read you Miranda warning. So >> why? >> I tried to explain that to you, but you wouldn't let me. So that's the reason. Okay. You need anything else for her? >> No. >> No. Okay. I already explained her. She's being arrested for two separate incidents of retail theft. So what's the uh what was the other one? You guys have the receipt for that one? >> The old one or this one? >> This one? The one was 4208. >> It was What was it? Just merchandise? Yeah, I'll take clothing merchandise. >> Okay, so this one's going to be two separate receipts cuz the tomatoes had to be rung up separately. >> So, this isn't just about one questionable receipt anymore. You know, there are multiple incidents being discussed and the officers are checking receipts and merchandise as evidence. And if she has stolen from Walmart before, she probably knows exactly what she's doing. >> So, one of them is 14292. So >> second one is 14292 >> plus 749 >> plus 749 >> today 749. >> Well no 142 plus the 749. >> Oh so under today. >> So retail t theft under and retail theft over. >> So I could just add it up and then we don't have to like have it separate. >> Oh, you know what? I'm wrong. I took the uh the wrong total. >> You stole from Walmart. You understand that? >> No. you take from Walmart not paying it. >> You want to show her this? Hopefully I said that right. They're going to refund her her money back. That's what she paid for today. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> You understand this? >> You need money? >> I don't need money. But you understand this. >> They're going to refund you your money. Like give you money back. >> We need money. >> It's okay. >> No. Okay. See, I I I told her I would try to read her Miranda warning and stuff, but she wouldn't. >> She's saying, "Do we need money?" No. And I was like, "No, we don't need money." >> Uh, transplanting off to you. >> Yeah, I'll turn it for the >> um on the receipt it shows 9316. I gave her 9320. >> Okay. >> So, just for reference, >> cool. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> To the PU County Jail. >> Yeah. >> What? Cuz that's what we take criminals. >> What? >> That's what That's where we take people that are under arrest. I'm sorry cuz you're you're innocent to proven against. I can't really call you a criminal. >> You know what I mean? >> Yeah. So that's where we take people that are >> that we have probable cause to make an arrest that need to be incarcerated. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> That's too big of >> I don't know how to say it. >> You jail. >> Cool. I just kind of explained to her. We watched her on the camera as she saw skip scan. Okay. >> Getting arrested and going to jail. >> 16. Starting mileage 243. 137. >> What's up, buddy? She probably doesn't understand English, but whatever. >> Does she understand? >> Arabic. >> Arabic. >> Hello. >> Well, she stole back in March, $420 worth of stuff from Walmart, and today she tried to walk up with like $130 worth of stuff. So that whole I was in Chicago explanation is looking even harder to believe. Okay, so stealing is clearly wrong and she needs to take responsibility for what she did, right? Just shame on her. She seems to understand perfectly well and uh I guess you know legend says she's still saying one minute. >> They recognized her from last time so they called us. >> My voice there. >> What's that? >> Yeah. No, she say haram. >> She can't do that cuz she's Muslim. She has that on. >> I need in woman. No. No man. No man. >> If you didn't want me touching you shoplifted. You understand me? >> Me, my Muslim. >> I understand you. >> I'm treating you the same way that I do everybody else. >> No, I need you. >> Ma'am, just relax. >> Just relax. Okay. Then don't shop with us. >> No. Me, my Muslim, this is haram. Don't touch. Please. I need no women. >> There's women in there, but here police. No. But we have we have to search you though. Make sure you don't have nothing else. >> Okay, let's go. >> Okay. I need >> She wants the hoodie on because of her religion. >> She has to have her hair covered. >> They're going to have you take it off anyway. >> Have a seat right here, please. >> I got you. I'm right here. >> All right. Thank you. >> Yes, sir. She clearly knows what she's doing. She knows she's doing something wrong. Don't even go to jail, man. Straight to the airport and then to the depot. Okay, officers still have to keep everyone safe, but they should also try to handle religious and personal concerns properly when they can. In the end, 28-year-old Denna Oisa was arrested and transported to the Peoria County Jail on a retail theft charge involving approximately $13,861 in unpaid merchandise recovered by the store. The value of the alleged stolen merchandise can make a major difference in how a retail theft case is charged. When the alleged loss reaches a high amount, the offense can potentially be treated much more seriously than a basic shoplifting case. The prosecution would still need to prove that she knowingly took the merchandise [music] without paying for it. Repeatedly denying what happened or focusing on excuses can sometimes be a way for someone to avoid facing the consequences in [music] the moment. That doesn't prove someone's lying, but investigators can compare those statements with receipts, surveillance footage, and recovered merchandise. So, what do you think? Was the language barrier genuinely causing confusion, or do you think she understood much more than she admitted? Well, give us your answer in the comment section below.
