all right hello my name is Brad mcken I'm the chief of police here in the City of Coral Springs I also happen to be a motor Sergeant previously uh I did that I had the privilege of being the motor Sergeant for about 4 years today we're going to go for a little ride along do a little traffic enforcement um I am going to go a little old school and do handwritten tickets because quite honestly I don't know how to use the computer program that we currently have I haven't used it for a number of years so uh let's go out there have some fun and do some traffic enforcement as far as traffic traffic enforcement goes here in the City of Coral Springs uh we focus on a couple different things when we do enforcement it's just not about writing citations it's about education it's about safety whether that's based on complaints from the residents uh issues we're having with traffic crashes and data shows us where the crashes are occurring and how we can stop those preventing ultimately we're trying to make the streets of pearl Springs as safe as possible morning sir how you doing my name is Chief mcken Coral Springs Police Department reason why I stopped you speed this 40 m an hour okay you were doing 55 okay do you have your license registration Insurance please and I noce here got weapons from do you have a weapon on you at this time you have the reach for just tell me if you have one or not it's in the okay all right so I'll be right back give me one second okay all right all right so the reason why we stopped this gentleman today was 55 mph in a 40 mph Zone he did give me a uh concealed weapons permit which he did say he has a firearm in the in the glove box of the vehicle again I just instructed him to uh not reach for it that's a good officer safety and officer driver safety thing to let the officer know he did exactly what he should do is let the officer know that he has a weapon in the car give his permit and then tell me where it is not reach forward or do anything else um so we're going to run his license make sure he's good and we'll go from there all right Mr Rose here's your information back along with the all the cards that you gave me again I appreciate all the cards that you gave me there um again you did exactly what you're supposed to do when uh you get stopped you have a weapon in the car you give me the weapons permit so I appreciate the cooperation with that just do me a favor if you can please slow down did a lot of crashes a lot of accidents along the roadways here again you know 8 10 over you know I probably just you know maybe not stop you but at least I give you a warning I going to give you a warning today cuz the way that you uh you know handle yourself today very professional I appreciate it all right so have a good day be safe okay all right thank you have a good day all right so we're going to do a little traffic radar enforcement here about the 102300 block of Atlantic Boulevard ceiling is 45 mph um if somebody's going 60 that's going to be my threshold to uh go ahead and stop them and go from there all right morning sir my name is Chief mcken corl Springs Police Department the reason why I stopped you the speed 45 mph Atlantic you're doing 65 mph oh I'm uh that's I'm just I'm just to drive a license on Sunrise R okay then they close that's why my driver license is expiring okay like is it expir now or is it going to expire uh it's it's it's expiring now like uh they take it away then have to go to market or driver license on maret to it all right let me check everything out I'm go from there okay all right do you have a license or no uh they took it already they took it already Okay yeah then uh today today today it's my days off that's why I try to go weekly all right so the reason why we stopped this gentleman today was as I said the speed 45 mph where we were at on Atlantic he was doing 65 mil hour uh when I stopped him he advised me that he does not have a current license that it's expired he was actually on his way to the DMV so 15429 time reference 10 104 thank you what was the date on that that is actually showing today the 26 stand for thank you me all right so all right so dispatch just advised that his license isn't expired it's actually uh suspended so we're going to get ahead and give him a citation both for the speeding and then we'll give him one for the driving without knowledge on a suspended license um again as when I stopped him he said he believed it was expired he's on his way to the DMV unfortunately um it would have been expired today or just been expired he was telling me about I would let him go with a warning but because suspend a license that affects everybody's insurance rates and really shouldn't be operating a m vehicle so that's why the other citation is going to be issued today here's the deal your license isn't just uh expired it's actually suspended today you got a traffic ticket I guess you didn't go to traffic school um so they actually issued a suspension for the license today all right so what I did was I did give you one ticket for the speeding okay cuz 20 M hour over the speed limit is way too fast you got to slow out for me okay I know you're in a hurry to get it done um and I did Issue one for suspended without knowledge okay so it's not a criminal violation you don't have to go to court for it but it is another citation all right so the two citations are here the two mailers are here that explain how to take care of the ticket give your options give numbers to call if you have any questions I can answer for you now what I'm going to do is I'm going to give you information back with the citation so here's your ID card this is what I'm going to use to identify you okay your social security card and everything else here's your copies here's the other thing I can't let you drive the car from here okay so what I need you to do is I need you to park the car either over here or in the this parking lot because you don't have a valid license so I can't let you drive the vehicle if you call somebody okay and they come pick you up you take an Uber that's fine but again I'm I'm going to watch your pull into the parking lot park and then I'm going to leave okay but I'm telling you you can't drive if you get stopped again then it's suspended with knowledge and most likely you'll get arrested I want to say the light only because I have my first appointment painting for thank you what's that I I yeah I want to take the light that's what I I know it was a little I know not a little bit unfortunately you were doing 63 it's a 45 yeah I know but only I want to take the light only because I I have the first appointment to painting okay all right do you have your license yes everything I never have a problem all right let me well I just I need don't have painter okay I'm musician oh my God I got I got it 10 o' I have my what do you need my my driver's license okay and do you have insurance or registration you have the registration for the car yeah I want to take the light on I never run I never go fast there way a little fast okay thank you yeah I mean look unfortunately that's the whole thing is that well I'm saying but that's why the lightwing turns yellow you're supposed to slow down not speed up to try and get through the light cuz that's how when people you know like if I wasn't paying attention and see how fast you were going or if somebody else when that light turns red for you and you're speeding you can't stop you go in the intersection that's how again an intersection crash happened so I mean that's why it's so important all right so the reason why I stopped this gentleman was when I was sitting at the intersection back there um after riding the last ticket I saw him uh coming down Atlantic at a very high rate of speed uh when I looked at the radar estimated the speed he was at 60 MPH and it got up to 63 M hour as the light was uh getting ready to cycle and as you heard uh that's was his reason for the uh acceleration was actually to beat the intersection light which is one of the most most dangerous things that you can do again that's how the light turns yellow and it's timed so that you have enough time if you're going the speed limit to actually slow down um in this case here he wanted to beat the light and did that by accelerating which causes a safety issue for and I'm sorry what was the dc32 information on Main Channel when I stopped [Music] him showing his last 1050 on February 9th of this year dc32 104 thank you so what I just did there was I just verified dispatch earlier when I first stopped the car uh gave me some information I didn't quite hear it but Bly this car was stopped last month and given a verbal warning um so further I think in my mind justifies the reason for giving the citation for for this he just got stopped and got a warning here's the deal technically again there was two violations one is speeding through the intersection that's actually a violation not many people know about that you can't accelerate through an intersection not going to give you a citation for that one I understand what you're trying to do but the fact you were doing a 63 M hour 18 M hour over the speed limit again if somebody else was crossing that Street on Foot car pulled out you're not going to be able to stop okay so I did Issue a citation for that the reason why I did that was last month you were stopped and given a warning for something else okay so again again you need to you just need to pay attention when you're driving could just give you an idea my rule of thumb has always kind of been you know at the 15 mph Mark that's where I usually try and conduct my stops and you know if that's be usually a citation is uh warrant unless there's some other circumstances as we' seen today you know some people just having a bad day or had some bad experiences but for the most part you know at that speed that's where in my opinion there's a safety issue and uh you know citation most of the time is uh is going to be issued all right this car was going 51 mil hour com up here hello man how you doing reason why I stopped you my name is Chief mcken corl Springs Police Department the reason why I stopped you speed limit is 35 M hour West you and you're doing 51 M an hour okay so I need your license it's okay it happens license work yeah were you going to work you said okay where's work at I work in B hot okay going okay I'm so sorry okay well unfortunately I'm going to I take a little time so I'm going to make you a little bit later cuz I got to check your license and do a couple other things so it's okay you don't have to be nervous you know I I know but I never get p over it happens yeah I tell do you have your license with you yeah okay traffic okay so do me if you need to I'll take your license now I'll look up the registration or I'll have dispatch look it up if you find it just hold it out the window for me okay if you need to make a phone call whatever tell anybody you know use your phone tell them you're going to be a few minutes late but again if you have any papers just put them out the window and I'll come up and get them if I need them okay all right thank you all right so the reason why we stopped uh this uh lady is again she was doing 51 mph and 35 uh was on the only Road at the only car on the road at that time so it's pretty easy to see which car it was 10 for thank you um you know I stopped her asked her where she was going if there's any reason she's late for work unfortunately that's you know again not a not a great reason and it's a good reminder too that you know if you're if you're late for work and you're speeding and you get stopped you're going to be more late so um you know unfortunately you get there when you get there the other thing that I think was important you know she didn't have her information readily available when I first got up there needed a driver's license really to get started but after that you know explain to her if she gets the other documents hold them out the window um you know again that's really just for my safety her safety cuz you know that way you know she doesn't want to get out of the car I don't want her to get out of the car and approach me or or then that's a thing for me to be aware of or an officer you know that's not normal behavior so again if you have something like that if you need to give the officer get their attention you know hold it out the window like she did or or just you know kind of put your hand out there and wave a little bit but don't uh don't get out of the car um never good idea here's your license back your registration you gave me and there's also a copy un citation and issue for speeding all right like I said the speed Li is 35 you're do 51 that's 16 M hour over the speed limit that's just too fast to be going out here as you can see there's kids walking there's people that you ride their bike so really just is a safety issue this is kind of a you know semi-residential area so we need just slow down up here I know what happens you're late for work you know again I I apologize for making you later just do me a favor if you can slow down I know it again you know why it's why it's not a criminal violation it's just a you know unfortunately it's a traffic citation you have any questions I can answer for you and now okay like I said there's just there's three options in there you got to choose you got to choose to either go to court pay the fine or go to school um just make sure you do one of those by the 26th I know your birthday is on the 24th so it's right around that same time um also just you know your tag will expire on your
