On May 30th, 2023, Home Therapy Company reported a financial fraud case involving a former manager who made over $42,500 in unauthorized transactions at two gentlemen's clubs using the company credit card. The fraud was discovered after his sudden resignation, triggering an investigation. Authorities gathered surveillance footage, signed agreements, and witness statements confirming the misuse. On June 6th, he was arrested at his residence. So, you do. Okay. Um I'm glad you are honest and up front. Obviously, uh I want to hear your side cuz obviously I think there's some personal stuff going on. According to uh but we before we get into that, I just want to just confirm you are who you are. So, first name is John or Johnny? John. J O H N. Okay. So, obviously, you know that uh this is a criminal investigation before I speak to you about the investigation cuz I do want to know hear your side of it. Um I have to read your rights. Have you ever been read your rights before? All right, cool. I am going to uh read you your rights. I'm required to warn you before you make any statement that you have the following constitutional rights. One, you have the right to remain silent and not answer any questions. Any statement you make must be freely and voluntarily given. You have the right to the presence and representation of a lawyer of your choice before you make any statement during any questioning. All right. So, I'm just going to have you sign this. This is not an admission of guilt at all. It's just understanding what I just read you. Any questions? Uh no. Good. Dude, I'm going to be completely honest with you. As a man, uh you are a year older than me. When I saw this case, I'm like, there is absolutely no way, no [ __ ] how that somebody can spend $42,000 at a strip club. And I looked at it twice. I'm like, there's no way. Until obviously, we went there and saw, I still think it's like hard to believe. Although I give you props, I'm not going to lie cuz that is hard to do what you did. Um besides that, all jokes aside with that, I was told a lot of good things about you. That you had a very important job. Uh that you made decent money or above average money. And you were an important piece of this team. With that being said, I don't know if it's the truth, if it's a lie, if it's whatever. That's why I want to get down to the bottom of it so that I can give answers to the people I need to give answers to cuz obviously you're in a situation, but if I don't know the answers, I can't help or I can't give you people answers. So just explain to me what's what's going on. Don't Don't worry about the strip club part of it right now. Just the the back story the back end the first part of it. Just like what what got you like to where you were or personal stuff? just personal stuff like mentally I just collapsed. Right. Basically I um my mom's been in and out of the hospital. My brother was in ICU. Um he had a 20 foot fall. Oh [ __ ] five fractures in his head. [ __ ] Um was on life support when I saw him. Yeah. So What where was that? In Texas. Okay. Austin Texas. Um actually I flew out there for work and I had to deal with that. Like as soon as I got off the plane that was the first thing that was the first phone call I got. So that that's what I was kind of all right so So you do have a brother in Texas and you did have work stuff in Texas. So was it just a coincidence that it was both in in Austin? he came in well I knew that he lived in Austin. But he came into the hospital as a John Doe unidentified. And um the character was able to find my number in his apartment, and that was the call that I got as soon as I got off the plane. Oh, wow. had to rush to the hospital with that, and you know, it's just a remember what hospital that was? Um, Is he doing okay now? Yeah, he's he's in rehab. Uh-huh. You know, they're just trying to get him cognitively better. Right. Like speech, physical therapy. Um, he's improving. Mhm. So, What what day was that? Do you remember? Not off the top of my head. April sometime? That sound right? to be. All right. So, you go there, he's in the hospital, you deal with him, you're supposed to do some work stuff, and what happens with the work stuff? I didn't get to it. Just couldn't. And you were in contact with who? Uh, Dan Haggerty. Okay. Um, after that trip is when you come back home? I come back home, and then I'm just dealing with that, dealing with my mom, the demands of work could just just got a lot, you know what Right. I was just mentally just got a lot. Um, I was having, you know, in in our role, the therapists are a commodity, Mhm. so we had a lot of therapists that resigned, a lot of therapists that were threatening to resign if I didn't call them back in like 5 minutes. It was just I I I just couldn't do it anymore. Right. I just couldn't. Mentally, I couldn't. I was coming home, I was disconnecting from my kids, disconnecting from my wife, barely talking to them. I had no, you know, I was an avid gym goer, but I wasn't doing that. I just mentally I wasn't there. Was it for this like 2-week month time frame, or was it prior to that as well? It was just I mean, it was a lot prior, but then just everything just kind of piled on, man. It was just back-to-back-to-back, and I just What was prior, if you don't mind me asking? Um, my mom fractured her hip. I had to fly to Columbia. Um, just ongoing health issues with my mom. Mhm. Even though my my brother is there, like he's he's not he's not there to support my mom. So, you have a brother in Columbia? No, no, no. It's It's the guy It's the Oh, it's the same one in Texas. Okay. So, he's he's been kind of off the radar, right? So, it's just it falls on me. You know, just everything falls on me when it comes to my mom. And um Yeah, I just again, the demand of work is a lot, you know, and I Yeah. I stuck around because of that, because of the financial tools, you know, I have I have debt. I have, you know, I support my mom financially. Um my family. Yeah. So, I just You got those paid? I tried to do the best I could, you know, I could. I tried to do the best I could and Does your wife work? She does. Okay. She does. Um But yeah, I mean staying cold. I get it. You know, I'm I'm And I'm trust me, I'm not here to to ruin your life. It's just um my job to obviously investigate what happened and I'm like, there's no way, no how that this is like possible, you know? Um obviously we both and my other partner did a pretty uh thorough investigation and it is possible. Uh with that being said, March 8th I'm sorry, May 18th is is kind of like when all this started. You remember May 18th? And what you did? Um yeah, I went to the strip club. A pri- prior to that? Uh I went out to dinner with well, drinks with the coworkers. Mhm. That was like a training here or Yeah, we were doing a a training um project and um we had somebody fly down from Chicago, so we just took him out for some drinks. Right. So, after that that was at Matthew's? Yes. So, after that That's when I went to the the Like that Was it like planned? Was it just like spur of the moment? Did you just I was just by myself and my thoughts. You know, I thought I could just walk in there and walk out. Basically, and then it just spiraled out of control. So, what time Do you remember what time you guys left Matthew's? Cuz I It's not like a late late night place. No. I think we got out I think around 7:00, 7:30. Right. And then you went to Scores at what time? Uh probably got there like around 8:30. And you were by yourself? By myself. Yeah. So, 8:30. So, from between 8:30 and I'm going to say 1:30, um did you use your own money or was it all No, I on a company card? No, I did use my own money. Mhm. I did use my own money. That's why I I just Honestly, I don't know when I pulled out the company card, to be honest. I can tell you. Yeah. All that stuff happened around 1:30 a.m. So, if you used your own stuff, it was your own money was from probably 8:30 when you got there until midnight, 12:30, and then like from 1:30 on is all on the on the company card. Um with that being said, I'm just going to be completely honest honest with you, and I know you're being honest with us cuz so far we haven't hit a hiccup yet, and everything's been pretty much on point. Um you know that at Scores, every time that you sign your name on that credit card, you had to put your thumb print, you had to sign your name, they had to write the credit card number on there. It's on the video audio video. So, And they took a copy of your ID on your phone. And and your ID. So, it's not like they're covering themselves on a business perspective, cuz they can't say, "Hey, you know, I was blacked out. I don't know [ __ ] what's going on, blah blah blah, whatever the case may be. They forced me to do this, you know, whatever. So, I'm not throwing that out there to honestly to embarrass you or whatever you want to call it, but there were eight transactions. You know I'm not bullshitting you. It's 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Yeah, you can look at those. There There are eight transactions, obviously. It's all your Uh I know it's small, but it's your ID, your thumb prints on there, uh your signature. And it goes from like 1:30 all the way until like almost 9:00 in the morning. So, they actually like kept the place open for you. Cuz you were like high rolling, like doing your thing. Pretty impressive, actually. Uh So, that's all you, right? Your thumb prints, your your your ID, company's credit cards. Um This is where I think it's like a little bit crazy. So, you go home after that. Did you remember when deputies knocked on your door? Yeah. Everything was good. You were like, "Obviously I had a long night." And That wasn't right after that. That wasn't right after that. No. Um they came to do a welfare check and I just explained the same thing. Right. kind of, you know, going through with family and stuff like that. Said that people were concerned. The uh the following afternoon, obviously, after you go home when you wake up, you go back to the Rose. Remember that? Yeah. Or no? Yeah. Well, I mean It was a long night. It was Yeah. That was You went there in the afternoon, right? To the bathroom, yeah. Yeah. So, at the Rose, you spent I think it's seven and change. $794.20. And then at Rose at Scores, you spent $41,779.32. So, when you went to the Rose, obviously you didn't spend nearly as much, but obviously they have a copy of the credit card and your signature and um there was a There one of the transactions I know was $240. Remember that? Or no? I mean, here and there, yeah. So, you I think they you gave them the credit card and you got cash back. Remember that? Um but honestly, you got to put the past in the past and uh you can't change this, you know, unfortunately. Uh but to be honest with you, from our 3-day investigation, a lot of people said you're a good dude. Not going to lie. Oh, yeah, I know Johnny. I've known him for a long time. Johnny had a great job. You know, he's making good money. Um even people from the bars. They have nothing nothing against like adult entertainment, but they're like, "Dude, I I've known him for 15 years. And he's been coming here as a regular customer and he does his thing." I could care less about that, you know, honestly. I mean, you guys everybody does whatever they want to do on their personal time, but I'm just saying as a person, everybody was saying, "Hey, you're a good dude. You've been around for a while. He's He's never had an issue with him." Obviously, you can't spend 42K on a company credit card. Um did you speak to anybody in the business regarding that? I want to say last week, Wednesday. Last Wednesday. Wednesday? What did what did he say? Um he basically said, you know, we have a problem with the credit card. You know, I explained the same thing. Just um told him that I, you know, I'll pay it back, whatever I can do. You know, you know, um I'll take you know, accountability for the card and we can work out a payment plan. I went through that. Um we were just Like I said, I I did black out. I And again, no excuse. Right. I'm not going to you know can't sit here and blame everything on alcohol, right? Mhm. Um and I told him that I said I just I don't remember pulling it out. And then it just escalated from there. So I So I said, you know, I apologize and I told him, you know, I apologize for the hardship that it's causing the the job, you know, whatever I can do, I'll do. Right. Um And so then he was like, all right, well, let me speak to the lawyer and he was like, are you willing to sign a payment plan? And I said, yeah, I'll sign a payment plan. And that was it. Well, that's cool. At least they're giving you the opportunity. Um You haven't heard from them after that? from them after that. Where where is that card actually now? Uh it's at the office. So you you brought it back? Yeah, I took it back. When did you do that? Um It was a It was the weekend prior to that Wednesday call. I just took it back because I I still had stuff, like my stuff at the office. So I just I went and picked up my stuff and I left the card. Now, did they tell you you were fired or did you go in and I I resigned. Okay. I just resigned. I mean, I just figured again, one wasn't so much the credit card, right? Because I I didn't really capture or know how much it was. Um, it was just more of like I just told myself I can't do this anymore. Like just mentally I can't I can't I can't perform the job duties and the functions that you guys need. Right. Um and then just cuz of the bender, you know, I was just like they're they're not going to want to keep me here anyway after Mhm. to what happened. So I just I resigned. That's uh I I applaud you for that, honestly. Yeah. As long as you can face the the A lot of people can't face the reality of it. You know, you [ __ ] up. Not going to lie. I And that that's the thing, right? Like I I [ __ ] up, right? There's nothing you can't you can't hide it, man. There's no Like you said, I can't take it back. I you know, I There's no kind of corners. You got to move forward. So the only way you move forward is obviously listen and like you said I don't know like too much about your past. Obviously I didn't I didn't dig deep into that. I know you had some little issues back in the day. But when you are up front and honest with a judge, a jury, people listening to what you're saying now it's a lot better than you saying, "Dude, I don't know what the [ __ ] happened. I don't know anything about a card. I don't know I didn't do [ __ ] I blacked out. The alcohol did the talking. They forced me to do it. It's not my signature. It's not my thumb print. Somebody stole my identity." You know, it's a lot better than you cuz now you're showing remorse that you made a mistake. You are human. You [ __ ] up and how do I fix this? Right? Um Although I still think it's pretty impressive. Not going to lie. We were we were honestly trying to figure out Uh how Yeah. I'm not how in one night that like the breakdown was the hardest part for us to understand. So not to like get off topic too much, but obviously it's it is part of the investigation. So, when you actually go to the back room, what is their protocol on what you needed to do? Um like hey, you know, I want it one girl for an hour. Like what what do you what do you have to do? To be honest, I I don't remember that conversation. It might not have been like that exact conversation. I I don't know. Um but all I know is like towards the ladder, yeah, I mean, I I had like two girls in there. Um There's like a separate waitress or cocktail waitress that you conduct the transaction with and tell her like what you want. Correct. So, that's what that's what he's trying to ask. The initial the initial conversation like I said because But how do you how do you get to that person? Like how do you get to her? Like are you with a girl out in the out in the like main area and you're just like, "Hey, I want a private room." and then they bring you back? That's what I don't rem- Like that's what I don't remember. I don't know if if the girl that I was sitting with at at the main floor, if she was like, "Hey, let's go get a room." and then she spoke to the waitress and then Right. happened. I I mean, I don't know if I initiated like that I that part I unfortunately I just I don't remember. Right. That part I don't. So, I I don't know how it started. So, that once you go to the to the VIP lady or whatever it is that that takes your thumb print, ID, credit card stuff, you sign like whatever contract it is that they have. And then you went to the room. And then you go into the room, you go do your thing. Hour later, you come back out and you say, "Hey, I want to do it again." or they say, "Hey, you want to continue? You want to keep going." right? And then obviously they make you come back out every time and go through go through the same process again. Um did you remember how obviously how long you were in there or you didn't or how many dances or anything like that? Um just remember that it was time to go. So, you remember it was one girl and then it was two girls like towards the end? I I assumed I started with two girls. Oh. I I I mean Okay. Yeah, I don't know. Mhm. I don't know. And that's again the unfortunate part is that I just don't remember that Like how you how you get got period of got there, right? Yeah. Um at the other place, Roses, that that following day. Um obviously there's no thumb print or whatever, but she asked you before you were by yourself there. Um do you remember the bartender that you were you were dealing with? Yeah. What's her name? I don't remember her name, but um female, red hair or blondish hair. She knows you for a long time. Caucasian. Yeah, I just right now like her name Did you tell your I'm not I'm not going over to talk to your family about anything like Did you tell your wife obviously what was going on or no? I told my wife that yeah, that um I was at the strip club and there was a large transaction that was ran. So, she's she's aware of it. Yeah. Um I think that's it on my end to be honest with you. Uh anything else? Anything else that you want to ask or add maybe cuz I know it's it was a long uh day day and a half for you. Yeah, again I'm just you know, super remorseful about it and just Right. Yeah. Wanted to do whatever I could just to make it right with the company. Mhm. bring it to hey, you know, we we ended up doing something else. That's going to be on them and then depending on what they want to do depends on how they treat the criminal case. Um obviously don't contact them. Let Let contact you if anything. Um and let let it just play its course. Um obviously leave the past in the past and just try to move on from from your mistake. That's all I have. I mean That was on what day? The It was all May the night of May 18th into May 19th is pretty much what And you resigned when? That Monday. The following Monday? Was it the 19th? Uh let me see. So, May 18th was Thursday. Okay. May 19th was Friday, so Monday the You kind of realized what happened. 22nd is when you resigned. Is that when you brought everything back to? No. No. When did you bring everything back? Um the weekend. Okay. And who'd you give it to? Uh I just I had uh keys to the office, so I just left it there. Yeah. I left my keys and stuff. Left the key. Mhm. All right. Yeah, anything else? Should do. I mean, we talked about that. Uh anything else, John? No. I'm embarrassed to I said when Well, you seem like you're doing better because you uh to be able to sit there and admit that you knew that you were spiraling out of control and um But there's also reasoning behind it. Right. But But you also know why and what happened and everything and you're cognizant of what's going on now. So, still not even even though you're going through this and this is something significant, but you're uh you're making progress because you're at least remorseful and understanding and you know trying to change it. So. Being able to face it is the hardest thing. Yeah, I just But I can tell you now obviously you got to go to jail after this, but it's probably a burden off your back a little bit. I mean it I'm just thinking about my my son, my 11-year-old daughter. So it's killing me right now. Mhm. And I get it 100%. The thing that you have to realize is this, you know, everything that we do in life there's you you know this, there there's right and wrong consequences for every action that you do. Um however you want to tell him obviously what happened is on you, but once you get past this it's not like you're going you're not a murderer, you didn't kill anybody, it's not a violent crime, you're not going to do capital punishment and stuff stuff like that. It's you have to face whatever it is. Once you're out, you're out. You have to face obviously the in between time, um but obviously from now until you get out is going to be tough, but just think about it, it's not hanging over your head anymore. Regardless this would be hanging over your head until if you faced reality. And it could be it could have been worse, they could have grabbed you when you're driving your car with your kids, tow the car, the whole nine yards. You know, it's it's it unfortunately it happened at the house when everybody's home, but um now it's over for the most part. And you just take the you got to go go to the next step. That's it. And this may be open your eyes a little bit and say, "Hey, you know, my son and daughter are obviously more important than myself and going out for on a binge for for 9 hours. Maybe you got it out of your system. And the time between now and you know, court and all that stuff is going to be super important for your son, you know, because if you are you know, concerned about what he's seeing, then if he spirals out of control again during this time, then that's obviously not Yeah, not a good plan. So, like he said, this is a step, got it over with. You can only move forward. Anything else? Good. All right, John. I appreciate you being up front. Just do me a favor, just raise your right hand for me. Swear that the statement you provided today was the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth to the best of your knowledge? I do. Perfect.
