So, this time we got the drone going up. >> You see him? >> Yeah, I'm looking. I'm looking. I'm looking. >> Yeah, he's struggling. >> 1015 central, we have one SO and one shores in the water. >> That freaking run like the wind blows. >> I believe it. >> Dude, he took off. We were like, holy [ __ ] That run like the wind blows. >> Can't swim very good. >> You must be Dave. Which house did you see him in? >> I saw him going through the in the corner there. Got into the back. >> Not in the house, though. >> Nope, not in the house. >> Not in the house, okay. I said, "Well, what are you doing here?" >> Got you. >> Okay. >> And he went belligerent and told me to [ __ ] off. >> Oh. >> Got you. >> I saw him on the porch when I came home today. >> All right, but he never actually went inside the house. He was just walking between the houses. Good WC2. I got Stan and one of the guards going out on paddle boards to go grab him. If he's combative, I got a boat coming up. He's literally like 75 yards off the shore. So, I think we're good right now. He's not going anywhere. >> Ransom, he is a phenomenal swimmer. >> Yeah, so is Stan. This this guy couldn't be in a worse predicament right now. >> He's holding his hands up. >> Yeah, they're like, probably let us see your hands. >> His head is in the water. He's >> [laughter] >> It looks like they're handcuffing him right now. >> They're going to take him ashore. the water? >> Tell him what he's won, Johnny. He's won an all-inclusive trip to the Volusia County Branch Jail. All expenses paid, and met with a complimentary baloney sandwich. >> Hold the cheeses. It's a non-dairy sandwich. >> I'm glad it wasn't just us that thought he was fast, cuz the sheriffs, they're like, "Dude, we were driving after him down the street, and he was fast." >> I saw when he cut through the yards, I was like, "Holy >> And the squad's behind him. >> I thought he was going to cut back up. That's why I came through this way. I was like, "He's got to come back around. He's not going to jump." >> All right, shut up. >> No, he's not going to jump. >> I don't know why everybody thinks the river is a great idea. It just seals your fate. >> Sure as >> he jumped in the river. I'm like, >> As soon as you guys said go in the water, I was like, >> Hey, let's try to do him with three separate counts of resisting. >> Did you guys find him? >> Yeah, we found him. We found him. >> He's just crazy, huh? >> Uh apparently. >> I seen him out here in the road screaming at the road, you know. >> Oh, really? >> Oh, yeah. >> Well, you guys won't be seeing him again, so. >> They're like, "Repeat?" >> Aw, he's crying. Aw, he's so sad. Well, the problem is is now he's wet and cold. >> Yeah, and tired. >> Hey, Jack, watch the strap on his feet. >> Come to me, man. >> Michael Phelps. >> to see your hands. >> All right. Get your feet on. There you go. All right. Can you step over? >> Step over. >> I got you. Wait, get on your phone. Look at the step in your right here. Just face this guy right here in front of you. >> Face me. >> Please don't hurt me. I surrender. Please don't hurt me. >> We're not going to hurt. We're not going to hurt you. We're not. We're done with all that. We're going to walk this way, all right? It's cold, huh? >> Yes, sir. >> Yeah. >> Please don't hurt me. >> We're not going to hurt you, man. We're done. We're done with that. No, we're high-fiving each other. High-fiving it. Everyone's safe. No one got hurt. Everyone's good. >> Where you from, bud? >> Maryland. >> Maryland. We actually We actually enforce crime here in Florida. >> Well, I didn't do anything. >> Well, you did when you ran from the from the deputies that were in uniform who told you to stop, so there's that. >> That's true. >> Yeah, there's that part. >> But you asked for a statement, so I'm talking. >> Oh, I It wasn't a question, but I appreciate acknowledging it. >> No, I actually had to acknowledge it myself, so yeah. >> Yeah, and sometimes we just got to do that, right? Yeah, life's all about acknowledging our mistakes. >> Yes, sir. >> What's your name, bud? >> Chase. >> Okay. Do you have anything on you that's going to establish a poker or something like that? No weapons on you, right? Okay. >> These are girl shorts. >> They're not girl shorts. >> Oh, they are, yeah. >> Okay. >> 2026 on it. >> All right, so I have a question. When you When you jumped in the water, did you think you were going to escape by jumping in the water? >> No, I just To be honest, you want to know what I was thinking? >> Yeah, I was curious. >> I just got to live. That was the only thing, I just got to live. I can't be captured. >> Well, going in the water is not the best way to do that. We fish people out of the river all the time, bud, so so you know, for future, don't do that again. >> I don't do this. I'm not a criminal. >> I'm just saying, in the future, you might not be a criminal, but you did some criminal today. >> Yes. >> Yeah. Hop on in. You, me, and Mr. Pooh are going to go right back to your car. >> Okay. >> Fantastic work, sir. That was some spectacular boarding, if I've ever seen it. You were hauling ass on that thing. You should have just stayed and talked to us, man. You put yourself in jail today for no good reason. You got some wheels, I'll give you that. Well, now you learned today you got nothing to be scared of. Just if you have a bad burger at McDonald's, it doesn't mean you're never going back to McDonald's. All right, hang tight for a few minutes. >> I just spoke with all the RPs in the in the neighbors. He never entered in the house. He walked between the gates, no signs of forced entry, nothing. >> We go through the car? >> Didn't go through the car yet. >> All right, cuz we're going to inventory it and tow it. >> All right, I'll go interview him for you real quick. All right, what was your first name again? >> Chase. >> Chase. All right, I'm Deputy Bissonette. I'm with the Sheriff's Office. >> You have the right to remain silent. Do you understand your rights? >> Okay. >> All right, first and foremost, do you live here? >> No. Okay. What what are we doing here today? >> My parents and I don't have a great relationship. They just basically want me dead. I just was like, I'm going to just live at the beach. So, I came here and somehow I landed at this address. I don't know my map saying it was in here. And then the guy was out there. And I was like, I'm not trying to break into his house. I've been here for like the past two nights. And I'm just sleeping in the morning. I got to taking a couple naps in my car here. So, >> So, let me ask you this. Earlier today, somebody saw you down along the side of the house. What were you doing on the side of the house? >> I was I was trying to I had to pee. I was being lazy. I just peed on like in the grass. >> When you were running, I know I heard Deputy Snowden yell. I'm assuming you heard him yell. When he yelled stop, you did hear that? Okay. >> I did hear that. >> Um, he said I'm wrong. >> All right. >> That was a complete evasion. Like I said, I just want to be clear. That's all. I don't want to >> Complete evasion. >> All right. Hang out for a few minutes. Let me chat with him. What Why did you run? Because he's apparently been brutalized by law enforcement in Maryland. Uh, said he was on the side of the house because he was taking a piss. And over here is too open. So, he went over there to pee. >> I would have smelled that all the way over there. I would have been like, dude, park >> somewhere else. >> Literally what I told him. I'm like, dude, all you had to do was just stay. >> Here he is. >> Hop on out for me. Bring him over to Deputy Snowden's truck. The truck's closed up and it's going to be towed. Deputy Snowden's going to be the one doing the report. He's the one that you didn't want to stay and talk to. >> Okay. >> What did we learn today? >> Wait. >> Don't run from the Sheriff's office. >> Yes, sir. >> Cuz we'll come get you. On land or in the water, right? All right. >> The suspect, 28-year-old Chase, was charged with loitering or prowling and resisting without violence. Chase ended up pleading no contest to both of these charges, was sentenced to 15 days in jail, and 15 hours of community service. Now, those officers being able to swim out into the ocean to apprehend him is extremely rare, with an often required training in officer water survival, or OWS courses. In these courses, officers practice swimming while wearing duty uniforms, manage or remove their equipment in the water, practice swimming in strong currents, and a lot more. It's lucky the officers were even able to go out there because Chase looked like he wasn't going to last much longer. And to think those 15 days and 15 hours Chase was sentenced to could have all been avoided had he simply not run away. What stood out though isn't the fact that he ran, is that he ran when it sounded like he wasn't even under arrest. But you know what? Sometimes the consequences don't come from what you've done, they come from the decision you make when your fear takes over.
