You're only making this more difficult by staying inside of the tunnel. You will be exiting the tunnel. We want you to exit on your own. We do not want to have to force you out. >> While this drone is brought back, another drone is deployed as the male and female get closer to exiting the tunnel. The female has stated that if she makes a run for it, the suspect will shoot her. >> I got 40. >> I'm going around. >> The right hand is concealed. >> Setting up, setting up with 40. >> Put your hands up! So, the information you gave officers about your name and stuff is not coming back. Why would that be? Did you give the wrong name? What ID is your state out of? Or what state is your ID out of? >> I'm a vagrant. >> You You never had an ID? Ever, ever? Never in your life? >> Mhm. >> What's your name? >> Chantel. S H A N T E L E. How old are you? Well, we're not going anywhere for a long time, so I need to figure out where you who you are. Whether whether we have to take your fingerprint you we can do it the hard way or what, but you're playing games cuz there's no way you're 33. You're not. You can't. If you're born in '92, there's no way you're 33. Huh? Now you're just making up dates, okay? So, you need to tell me who you really are. Do you have warrants or something? Is that why you don't want to tell us your real name or Did anybody get the name of the gentleman you were with? What's his name? What's your name his name? What? Dale what? Dale what? Salvager? Do you know his date of birth? How do you know him? Okay. >> The male suspect was identified as 42-year-old Dale Meter. While officers deployed non-lethal rounds to get Meter to comply, SWAT officer Zachary Herbst discharged his service weapon. The gunshot Meter suffered would later cause his death. [music] The SWAT officer who shot him reportedly stated he felt the female was in immediate fear of being killed or seriously harmed by the male and that she had no reasonable opportunity to escape that harm. Reports indicate there were no charges filed against the female and SWAT officer Herbst is currently back on duty. >> Now, the car you saw on the body cam wasn't even the only vehicle Meter stole that day. According to local reporting, he was already running from officers in a stolen vehicle when he stole another one and that's the truck he eventually ended up near the tunnel with. When we looked a little more into Meter, he had a history of auto theft. At the time of this incident, he was already wanted after violating his probation on another auto theft case. >> But we really don't know what was going on between Meter and this woman. Officers did mention she had warrants, but she wasn't charged in this incident. >> She's got two priors for vehicle theft. He's got one for receiving transferring. >> Now, keep in mind by the time the suspects came out of the tunnel, officers had already tried less lethal rounds and apparently they were not working. Meter had this woman in front of him with what looked like a gun against her. We know now it was a BB gun. The officer making that decision didn't know that. We don't know what the relationship was between these two, but whatever she was to me to before this, when he needed a way out, he was willing to put her between himself and the police. Listen, you can read somebody's entire criminal history, but sometimes one decision tells you a lot more.
