On March 26th, 2024, a woman reported being threatened and robbed of cash after giving money to a man who claimed he needed help. Later admitting inconsistencies in her story that led officers to determine no robbery occurred and arrest her for misuse of 911. >> I was the one that called. I'll >> Did you get your purse snatched? >> Uh, he stole my money out of my hand in the uh I don't know. >> Yeah, we got him. >> Oh my Oh, he said he had a gun and he's going to shoot me in my [ __ ] face. >> Okay, >> that's why I know >> I don't know him. He He threatened you when he took the money away. He said he he said you're not get cuz the the lady in there, she was the older. She seen them talking to me. He told me that he wanted he needed help with some money. I said, "Okay, um well, I probably have, you know, some change in my purse." And so he was by himself. He was by himself. So when I put my head down to reach in my purse, he was like, "You might as well just give me all of that." I said, "No, what are you doing?" Then six dudes came like surrounding me and I was like, "You guys are all together." And then once the lady said, "Get out of here with that." We walked this way and then it was two cars. >> And so I was like I was like, "You know what? I I really can't believe this." I was like, "You don't know what type of protection I have on me." And he was like, "Oh, oh, >> you better back the up before I slap the out of you." And I was like, "Well, I'm already calling the police." And I went to record it and he was he already had a driver waiting in the car. >> Got you. Do you have your ID on you? >> So that he asked you and he initially asked you for money. >> Yes. He asked I help him with some money. He said he need $100. And I said, "I don't have a hundred, but I can give you something of what I have. I just got off work." Cuz like you don't have a cash app or a car. I said, "No, I'm not going to go that far." By the time I put my head down, he snatched it out of my hand. I was like, "Where are you going?" And he was like, "Oh, don't worry about it. Don't worry about it." And I was like, "How are you going to steal money from me? You just asked me to help you with something." And I followed them out here. >> Okay. >> And you can identify the guy that st >> Yes, I can. I know exactly how they look. >> When he when he took the money out of your hand, did he make threats to you or? >> Yes. I as soon as I said, "Give me back my money, that's all I have." I just off work. I need some food to feed my kids. He was like, "You better back the up before I break your [ __ ] face." I was like, "You don't know if I have any type of protection on me." And he was like, he was like, "You're not going to do [ __ ] I promise you." And he was like, "I got a burner and I will blow your face out." That's what he said. And that's what made me back up >> cuz he stood stall and went like that and I backed up. >> Can we check with each side for some help? popped up >> and once he stuck once he put his fist out to swing all of the guys surrounded me and I backed up and it was some lady here screaming saying please don't do her like that and that's why they ended up going away. >> Okay. >> So >> So he said you better back the [ __ ] up before I >> blow my [ __ ] that was while he had >> and that's when he had my money. He had a he has a lot of money in his pocket. Ain't no telling how how many people he's done that to. >> What does he look like? >> He's a tall guy hasn't a white shirt. Hasn't a hat. It's like so if you end up having to go for the warrant, it's like you'd get there and to be able to bond out. It's $200 bond. Um so I mean it's traffic. It's not a big deal at all. I was in the security office watching footage and detective was standing by there and I walked out. and check out how we talk and ask if I can get some money or two people back home 34. So when Detective Walker was interviewing her, I overheard a little bit of it. She mentioned something about a game. So when she tells me she initially he initially takes the money, >> he makes some comment about just play the game with me. just play the game. She's like, I'm not playing a game. Tries to get her money back, makes a threat, leaves, says when the threat's made or a couple other guys that this male was with approach her and kind of surround her a little bit, >> follows him back. This is what she does when he follows him back outside. >> Um, and he takes off in the car that you guys stop. She said she played the game once when she was inside >> and she said the guy uh took the money out of her purse cuz she had a little plastic bag and uh the guy took the >> took the money out. >> So I'm going to swear to the video I would show him taking money out of her purse. >> No, Mayberry said uh I guess she handed the Hey, Mayberry. And your phone call >> triggered a response where we got certain resources up and we're responding a certain way that puts people in danger, puts us in danger, puts >> caller initially called and said he needed to get an abusive person out of their house. He just grabbed their son aggressively while they were on the phone. During the dispute, he grabbed a kitchen knife, started to go after her with my money. I didn't play a game $100 for a trip back to where he came from. >> Possibly a free dodge >> with either the first three characters or 348. And he snatched the rest of the money out of my hand. >> But can I just explain something to you? So you reached in your You said at that point he reached in your purse and snatched a wad of $600 >> out of your purse. That's what you told me. You said fours and the rest were 20, right? >> Okay. I was like, "Guess what?" He was like, "Let me get that." I was like, "Come on." That's when he told me he had a gun. So, I had to play cool. I didn't I didn't have my gun on me. My gun was in the car. >> I got you. >> And again, like the the issue that we're having is like when you initially when me and you initially talked about it, you said that he asked you for a you said he asked you for $100, >> right? >> You said I'm not going to give you that much. But you started reaching into your purse to get money and he reached in and snatched money. You didn't tell me that you had given him a $100. And like the story, I guess, is like, >> you see what I'm saying? Like, yeah, the story because what you told me, what you described to me is a strong armed robbery, which is a felony, which is a big deal. Which means like we're going to get the helicopter up. If we spot the car, we're going to chase it. Like, >> all that stuff is going to happen because you're telling me based on what you're describing initially that you were robbed. And then we talk a little bit more and it starts to change up a little bit and then we watch the video. And I'm not saying you guys weren't standing there talking where you said you were because we see you in the store talking where you said you were. >> Yeah. >> However, on the video >> there's not we don't see anybody reach in and snatch a lot of cash. We don't see anything that resembles a strong armed robbery. Do you understand what I'm saying? >> Which is what you initially described. So that's why our supervisor made a decision, which is why we're here right now. And again, with these things, you go to court for it. You can describe, you know what I mean? You're free to tell it happened. However, based on what just happened, the sequence of events, with our initial response, >> Yeah. >> the crime that you had described to me and then us investigating it further and it not meeting the criteria for a strong armed robbery. Do you understand what I'm saying? >> What? >> That's where that's why we're here right now. I mean, did you guys find a gun? >> No. >> To find no gun? >> No. >> Well, you was just all talking. >> So, you guys didn't see where they once he took like they came all in at one time. You guys didn't see that? >> We see people standing around there, but we don't see anything that looks like anybody's being threatened. Anybody's being forced to give money, anybody's It looks on video, what it appears to be is a consensual exchange of money. >> That's crazy. >> And again, like you told me initially about the game. You said he said, "Hey, if you play the game, I'll give you your 600 back." Which you had initially told me that he snatched all out of your purse. And then you told me that you told him you were not going to play the game. However, when our detective followed up and interviewed you, you said you played the game one time. So, you see where like the stuff starts to >> right >> change a little bit, >> right? I should have said that's how you jump. I don't know why I thought he was going to give me my money back. Honestly, that was just extra cash I had going grocery shopping with, so I didn't mind helping him at all. He denies spir all the money on him though. >> That's what the other officer in there. >> Not my money, but all the money we had on him. >> That I don't know because I was never in contact with the guy. The only time I've seen that guy was when I drove you over there to see let you tell me whether or not Yeah, that's a guy. And then when we just got back here before me and you took a ride here, that's the only two times I've I've seen that guy. >> They're not going to put me next to them, are they? >> No. No. Like male. We don't put males and females together. We don't put people that are involved in the same thing together. So, >> have you ever been arrested before? >> Yeah, but it was like for pepper spray. >> Oh, like a long time ago. >> Charge and that was I think for like battery. >> I got you. >> That messed me up with the medical field because I was going to school for MA. >> Yeah. So I was out of work for like a couple of months, but me and my boss was really close and I was there with them for 3 years. So she was like, "If the case gets close, she'll let me work." But then I told her, I was like, "I got a newborn at home." So I kind of need to work. So she she she let me work all the way up. >> Did they end up filing charges or did they drop? >> Yeah. I mean, to be honest with you, again, with something like this, >> I mean, they'll look at the report and make a decision on it. But I mean, if you have a clean, you know what I mean? >> Yeah. Is she going to go in there? >> The suspect was initially investigated for strong armed robbery, but the charge was questioned after video review showed no clear use of force and suggested a possible confidence scam instead.
