Okay, those are the tattoos of John, man. Damn, my face. D, you shouldn't have ran. I got a warrant. Yeah, don't move. That law enforcement has let you go for 30 years and not push you. This felon managed to get away with his crimes for 30 years until he made one simple mistake. What's crazy is 1990. That means you've been on the run longer than two out of the three officers here on the street that have been alive. On June 26, 2024, a West De Moines officer pulled over a homeless man riding a bicycle for a minor traffic violation. But within 3 minutes, officers realized something wasn't adding up. Uh, you got to have a rear reflector on your bike, my man, if you're going to ride on the roadway. So, what's up? Oh, okay. So, and then if you're going to ride at night, you need a front light. I'm sure you know that. But you got an ID on you real quick just so I can say I stopped to talk with you with me. Okay. Can I get your uh Greg Stins? Greg Stalins is your name? Gregory Stins. Gregory. G R E G O R Y. And how you spell Stalins? S A L L I N S. S. What's your date of birth? Uh, bear with me, buddy. I'll get you out of here as fast as I can. I think I wrote something down wrong. What's your full social? Uh, perfect. Yep. Hang tight for me. Gregory, I'm still not getting that back. Are you sure that's right? I'm pretty sure. I've been a long time since I had the whoop. Yeah, I do. Can you run one for me? Last name Stalin, Sam, Tom, Adam, Lincoln, Lincoln, Ida, Nora, Sam. First name Gregory George Robert Edward George Ocean Robert Young. The reason why is because I hate if you're riding your bike and someone rear ends you. Oh, yeah. And then they can try they can kind of point the point because the reflector and I hate that because it's like no it's I understand that. Copy. Can we try a And I'm also with our traffic unit so I do all our accident investigations. So whenever bikes are involved it almost always is way worse than Yes. You usually hit you from behind. Yep. Yes they do. I just can't let you go at this point till I verify who you are. So high school. Just going to I There you go. What are you going to get today? Uh, I got some cigarettes first and nice. See if I maybe pick up a dog treat for my dog. Oh, there we go. Where do you live at? Down in the woods back way back over that way in De Mo. Nice. You like your spot back there or Oh, yeah. I've been there for real. Yeah, just enough to you're secluded a little bit. Hopefully. Yeah. When asked for ID, he claimed he had never had a driver's license or any form of identification, which seems suspicious, especially for someone his age. How long you been living up here, then? You haven't tried to get an ID card or anything yet? No. No, never had. Never had. I guess there's no reason to. Yeah, no reason, but I am not driving or anything. Yeah, makes sense. Copy. All right, buddy. I need some way to verify it. So, what state? Do you know a state that you've had a DL out of? Cuz it's not Florida. You've never had a driver's license ever? I'm trying to remember one I had. Dude, I had I got ran over. My brain ain't quite That's okay. I just I need to verify before I can let you go. in case. Okay. I know here at human services they know me. Human services know you right here. Western. Yeah. I volunteer out there every morning putting stuff out. We can go right up there and you go up here and talk to me. I would just think if it's what state I can get you through any state, even if it's really old. So, I know it's been a while. Just try to think. Yeah. Try to think for me. Sorry. I can't help you, dude. I'm sorry. Where else have you lived? Have you ever had any other runins with any law enforcement for us? No. Last time somebody asked me for something, I mean, that was years ago. Yeah. Cuz I'm just out here doing my little thing here. Yeah. Not bothering nobody. All right, buddy. I'm just going to take your word for it. Okay. Okay. Thank you. Cool. Uh I don't shake hands. Sorry. Yep. You're good. He told the officer his name was Gregory Stalin, but when they ran it through the system, what came back was anything but normal. I can check that, but they came back with no what? Nothing at all. And it came back with I was going to stop on my way back and I got done. Yeah. Human sources and go in there and see what So, what we're going to do for now while I keep investigating this is I'm going to take a picture of you and send it to our guy who has facial wreck. So, you pull your hat off and your glasses off. All right. Okay. Just have a seat for me. Okay. I called Pop Party, too, and verified with him on the way over if I found him that he's okay with doing it. He gave me a new date of birth, so I'm going to try it. But it's only a couple days off, so I feel like Clear would have been able to pull that up. So, and both the socials you gave me come back to other people. One of them's deceased, the other one's a lady. So, I don't think either of those are you? I know. Try I know you had that brain injury that we talked about, but can you try your best? Can you think of a so cuz here's the issues. I don't want to arrest you for the um for stopping you without the rear reflector cuz like I told you, I should just stop people to let them know cuz I don't want it to be your fault when you get hit. But if I can't verify who you are and the info you did give me comes back to nobody and comes back to other people, that's the bigger issue. You know what I mean, buddy? I understand that. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. We're just going to hang tight with this guy till we get it figured out. So, if you could keep trying, that'd be great. You used to live in Ohio? I've been through there years and years and years ago. Did you have an address there? Uh, no. I was living on the street going from one place to another. How about Waterlue? Waterl? Where's that at? Iowa? No. Never been there. You live there? Okay. No phone numbers by chance? No. No. The more the man talked, the less his story made sense. That's when the officer decided to dig deeper. All right, brother. Time to be honest with me. Okay. So, the info you give me comes back to a dead guy. Gregory Stins is dead. And the Yeah. Yeah. So, who are you? I'm You're Gregory. You're just not dead. I'm not dead. Yeah. Okay. Could it just because I haven't been on anything for a long long time? They don't just declare people deceased cuz they haven't heard from them in a little bit. Okay. I'm just I don't know. Can I move my bike over there if you're going to come back? Yeah. If if I'm going to arrest you, we're still doing a couple of things cuz I'm trying not to arrest you. Anyone got back with a facial wreck or nobody? No. No hits. No hits. No hits. I said 2000 was the year of the death. Did you go did you go missing in that year? Did you someone report you missing and then they just declare? You know, I don't talk to my people in a long long long long time. Okay. I have not talked to nobody in my past long long time. I think I'm going to call countrymen and get it approved by him. I think whichever direction. Cornered and out of lies, he finally told the truth. His real name was George Hardle Road. His criminal history stretched back to 1983 when he abducted a woman in Minnesota and crossed serious boundaries before leaving her abandoned in the woods in rural Wisconsin. He was sentenced to 9 years in prison and served five. In 1994, he was transferred to a halfway house in Madison where he escaped. Yo, none of us are mad at you. I'm just baffled that law enforcement has let you go for 30 years and not push the issue. What's crazy is 1990 that means you've been on the run longer than two out of the three officers here on the street that have been alive. 1995 I was one years old. 94. So I'm saying yeah well yeah of all where have you been of all your different places man? All over the place. Where's been your favorite? Iowa. Why is that? Just curio. I can make them. Well, not Michigan though. You get a dime. Yeah you can brother. Why not Michigan? You get a dime for that. It's getting colder. Run me through the system. They're going to Oh, we got him again. Oh, we caught him. We caught him. You're not Everything No, everything you said today has been 100% correct. I can't be mad about any of it cuz you've been 100% correct other than the name. Other than the dead guy's name. I didn't even know the guy was dead. He died. He died like 5 years later. He did not last very long. No, he did. He did. You better find someone else. Oh, that'd be easy. Don't worry. That'll be easy. That's I will I will jump again, sir. They turn me loose. You know, every time. Uh, no, guys. They've been upping my ass for 30 41 years now. Yeah. On a 9-year sentence. Every time I think I kind of got an idea of what's going on. Stuff like this just like the you can buy IDs at homeless shelters and would never have would never have thought Yeah, I figured you just grabbed someone's mail from a mailbox one time. I know. That's ultra theft, dude. That's bedtime. I already did my bedtime. I knew they'd want me. Well, I worked in their office at one time and I'm the one that posted all the flyers in the fan at one time for them. So, they'll be happy. So, here's what we're going to do with your bike hunt if Officer Freeze explain it to you. Over there and let anybody take it one wants it. It's going to go back to RPD because it is yours and then it'll be in our property. So, if you ever do happen to make it back down here, I will be back. Yeah. So, then if you ever come back, come back with an ID and you can get it back. Okay. He lived in a wooded camp behind some train tracks for years just under the radar. He built a reputation in the community as a mentor to local teens. However, the man the community knew as homeless Greg was a convicted felon. wanted in Wisconsin since the Clinton administration. George thought he beat the system, but he just borrowed time. He was arrested and later extradited to Wisconsin, where he now faced the consequences of his decades long run from justice. And just like George, this next suspect tried to outsmart the cops with a fake identity. Only this time, his tattoo gave him away. Can I get your up your sleeve? Oh, that one right there. Okay, those are the tattoos of John Man. On February 15th, 2022, a Wisconsin deputy on routine patrol ran a license plate and noticed the registered owner is wanted in not one, not two, but four different jurisdictions. Not exactly someone you let off with a warning. The reason you wouldn't pass me back there? No, I didn't want to speed. That's all. Okay. And then I got gas up. So I was going to pull over in in Shauno and go gas up and then head home. Okay. Cuz I I was doing 10 10 miles an hour under the limit. Yeah. I didn't want to I didn't want to go past you. Okay. Okay. Do you have your driver's license on you? Okay. Do you have a driver's license? Uh no. We're suspended. Okay. Do you have any type of ID? Not on me. Okay. Nothing at all. No. Okay. And what's your name? David Man. David man. Yes. And who's the vehicle registered to? My brother. Who? My brother. Your brother. And what's his name? His name is John. Is John. Okay. And what's your middle initial? David? L. L. And your date of birth? You're not John? No. Okay. Because usually I don't have people that that have to pause to give me the the year that they were born. And they don't usually have to count it out on their fingers. I'm going to cut around on my fingers. You You were You were That's exactly what you're doing. So, okay, hang tight. I'll be right back. Since the name the driver gave the deputy didn't match the guy with the warrants, the deputy decided to dig a little deeper. But here's where it gets interesting. Go ahead. RO John man has multiple 99 10 for the one that I opened had a different date of birth. Um just confirming and they're all the same as the RO. They all appear to be John man 1114 of 70. Do have a picture of John in house. He also has multiple tattoos on his arms. Upper arm, forearm, both arms. 104. I'm pretty sure I've got John here. He's giving me a uh name of David, but I'm not seeing that. 516 channel, can you do some looking and see if you can find a David Lman man um with the the 610? He had to uh count out the date of birth on his finger. So, I'm guessing he's not quite sure on the date of birth, but if you can find something close to that, please. John, can I have you step out of the car for me, please? What's that? Okay. Can I have you step out? Are you arresting me? Come on and step out and talk with us. Holy [ __ ] Can I get you roll up your sleeve? Oh, that one right there. Okay. Those are the tattoos of John Man. It's John. Can we get a toll, please? Can I get another cup? Just go and stuff in here. Sure. What do you need? Your your glasses. Oh, jacket. Okay. What? What color is your jacket, John? The black one right there on the passenger seat. Okay. Do you have anything on you that you shouldn't have? No, just Okay. Okay. But you've lied to me once already. I didn't want to get arrested. I understand. But okay, that's going all back in. Phone. You go ahead and put him in mine. Previous arrest records revealed the driver's real name was John Man. Those same records listed multiple tattoos on his hands, which helped confirm his identity. A quick search of the vehicle turned up an open container of alcohol, another violation of his probation. In the end, Jon was hit with charges for giving false information, violating patrol, and outstanding warrants. In the next case, officers had to confront a nationally wanted criminal. Damn, my face. Yeah, you shouldn't have ran. I got a warrant. Yeah. On April 26th, 2022, authorities had been tipped off about a suspect with a nationwide warrant who had managed to stay under the radar until now. The tip placed the suspect in a white van cruising through town. Officers immediately headed to the reported location. And as usual, the suspect did precisely what you'd expect from someone in an action movie. Let me see your hands. Let me see your hands. Take your hands out now, man. Step out of the car. Get on the ground. Get on the ground. Don't move. Don't move. Roll over now. Get on the ground. Give us your hand. Hey, give me your hand. Lock the streak. 36. Send us another crew. We can a sergeant. Damn, my face. No, you shouldn't have ran. I got a warrant. Yeah, I couldn't. Don't move. That ain't got nothing to do with nothing. You hear me, sir? There you gave me a ride. She tried to leave me stranded. Thank you. Stand up. Shut up. That was a good shot. Yeah, I taught I taught him. Don't hang here though. Just hang out. My bad. Yeah, they were just g. You got anything on you? Hey, if you want to go, I got him. If you just want to check the car where you're sitting. You got anything on you, man? Yeah. What? Anything that's going to stick, stab, poke, or hurt me. Any drugs, guns? Yeah. Crack in the crack pipe. Crack in the crack pipe. Okay. You shot me or he did? He did. I had my gun. You just got tased. [Music] Once the suspect was in cuffs, one officer circled back to speak with the woman who had tipped them off. He got he got tased. He was putting his hands on me. He cop all over my car. I got hella charges against him already. Well, I mean, he's got a bunch of charges now. And he's like he's got a warrant. Yep. He got a bunch of charges from me. Beating the hell out of me at the store right here. And he tore her car up. Like what? What did he What's your relation to him? He had nothing down. Do you have kids together? No kids. He's just stopping her, popping up. We come back to the house. He's sitting on the couch with another [ __ ] too. And I got hella charges on him. He kicked my door in. He busted my So he assaulted you today at the young. Okay. So, he's got charges. He's obviously got a warrant. He's got a bunch of charges from us now. From me? Well, I'm saying from us. You guys were just getting gas at the gas station. He's a stalker. He He got previously charged of stealing my car. Okay. He stole my car. So, you were out of the car when he came up to you? Yeah. And so, he came up to you and grabbed you by your hair. By my hand. He jumped in the car, grabbed my car. He He jumped in my car. He grabbed my keys. It's It's over there. Thanks to a solid tip and quick professional work by the officers. The suspect ended up facing charges for resisting arrest, obstruction, and possession of controlled substances and drug paraphernalia. This suspect almost got away if not for a tip off. But in the next case, you'll see one of the most unsuspecting criminals caught on camera. I want to be an undercover detective, though. You got to go through the academy, man. Would it help if I went to the army? Yeah. Yeah. April 13th, 2024, a state trooper in Indiana pulls over a white Chrysler for speeding. Pretty standard stuff. But then two people inside the car switch seats. Not exactly something innocent people do. What are you doing in this lane? Pull to the right. Wait till these traffic get here. We're going to get hit. And you weren't driving. He was. [Applause] Battle 51 point. All right. How's it going? Do you have a driver's license with you? I'm Trooper Bishop with the State Police K9 Division. You guys got I need all IDs. You're back there. You got an ID, huh? You don't have one, bud? Huh? You don't have one? Where's it at? Are you sure? Cuz I'm going to search it. There's two other officers coming. The experienced officer caught on pretty quick that something was off. But instead of escalating, he remained calm. But you could tell the driver in the back seat was nervous. Turns out he had every reason to be. Put your hands up here. You're not going to jail. You understand that? You be you be cool with me, I'll be cool with you. All right. Can I give you my dad number? Your what? My dad? Yeah. Hold on, bud. Let me patch you down real quick. Spread your legs for me, bud. It's like something the closest. The stop happened in Indiana, but something about the driver didn't quite add up. With ties to Ohio and Illinois, the trooper decided to run his info across state lines. What's it like being a cop? I've been known for 24 years. You got any kids? Uh, three. Boy, girl. Um, it's a boys and a girl. So, what's the craziest thing you've seen on the job? I'm going to I'm going to search a car here. Get out. No. Stay right there. Hey, let's put it in the trucks. Hold on. Let me double off, dude. Yep. There you go, man. Have a seat, bro. That's when he learned the driver, Robert Shields III, had an active homicide warrant out of Ohio. A month later in Toledo, Shields allegedly shot his 15-year-old ex Jayla Perry, during a fight. She passed away from her injuries 3 days later. Witness confirmed full extradition. temple. God, at first I thought you just had switching drivers and then I saw that warning. I'm like, murder. I know. So I I I was like, "Oh." So I'm surprised he didn't take off. Is he the driver? Well, he was. And then I pulled over. He didn't know where to go. He stops in the left lane. I'm like I'm looking back. Semiis are coming. I jumped out. I said, "You weren't driving." Cuz they jump. big jump back. So, I was kind of up on him pretty quick. So, all right. All right. Well, well, he's gone. So, let's get him out. I already got him. Oh, he's already here. I pull I jerked him out first. All right, here's what's happening. He's got a warrant for his arrest. I'm sure you guys know that. He's nervous as when I come up here before. Um he's going to jail and uh he won't be getting out soon. He's got a warrant for robbery and murder. So he's going to Ohio in Cincinnati. All right. So you guys are free to go. Um uh I think that's his stuff there. You can take it. He's he's not going to need it where he's going. So all right. So be careful pulling out. After the arrest, Shield was extradited to Ohio and booked on a murder charge. He was later indicted on multiple counts, including aggravated murder, burglary, and assault. His bond was set at $1.1 million. On May 21st, 2025, Shields entered an Alfred plea to murder and aggravated burglary. He's set to be sentenced on July 2nd and face 25 to 30.5 years avoiding a possible life sentence without parole.
