On January 3rd, 2026, watch what happens when deputies respond to a disturbance in a store parking lot and begin piecing together conflicting stories about a heated confrontation. What's up? Interviewed anybody? Okay. I'm going to talk to the guy over here. I already said yeah, let's go. I'm going to have to go to the police department for social services. That's all I asked. But it it won't be until like 8:00. Hold on a minute. Hey Boston, can we go over here and talk for a minute? Uh the other officer just got here now. But I'm waiting My mom's on the way up here. Okay. I said my mom's on the way up here now, but I guess I think Justin, right? Yeah. The other officer came to take her to take her in, but I already called my grandpa. They're going to take her and I guess they're charging her with aggravated battery because the car is a damn Yes, with the car. I've never heard of that either, bro. This is dumb. Yes, cuz it's a car, right? So she won't go to first appearance until like 8:00, 9:00. I called my grandpa. I was on the phone with you. I know he'll call and he'll bond her out. I I know you're the one with the conversation. You mind if we talk real quick and you can call your grandma back? Yeah. All right, Boston. Uh like you said, my name is Justin Young. I'm the lead deputy on this investigation. What's your name? Nate. Nate? Okay. Just tell me what happened. Well, I Well, everything happened so quick. I I really honestly, bro, I don't even know but I don't drive. I'm I was just in the car. You were in the car? Yes, but I don't drive. That's fine, but you were still in it. What happened? I don't know. Everything happened so quick. >> You already told me that. >> The lady left her kids in the car. That's what happened. >> Okay. So did Kayla and that lady get into it or something or what? How did these two vehicles come in contact with each Yeah, they were arguing with each other and >> Okay. Who started the argument? The black lady. Okay. How did she start the argument? Cuz my lady said something about the kids being in the car. She went in the store with her kids in the car. >> Okay. Left the car So your lady said something to that other lady about the kids being left in the car. Yeah. And then what? They started verbally arguing? Yeah. Okay. And what happened after that? And I just this car hit the other car on the way back and out. Okay. Clearly you weren't driving. I know. So Kayla was behind the wheel when this car hit the other car? Is that a fair statement? Yeah. Okay. Was Kayla yelling or screaming or anything when this car hit the other car? Um to be honest, bro, I don't everything happened so quick. Is this is How long have you and Kayla been together? Um I can't even remember the last time. Oh. 10 months. 10 months. Y'all live together and everything? Yeah. Okay. Anything like this happened before? No. Okay. All right. There's a girl. Are you charging her with the kids? What? Are you charging her with the kids? What? And the mom was standing right in front of the car, too. Was she really? Um She's saying she left her own kids here. I don't I don't know if I can I'll take her away battery. I mean, I can do I don't know. Um I'm going to call Sergeant. She's saying that she only intended to spin out. But it's a parking lot. And the way I understand it, she was So victim's car, her car, they're both nosed in. Yeah. Actually, it'd be her car, victim's car, right? Mhm. I said it right the first time. Victim, suspect. Okay. Suspect backs out, forwards it, runs right into the victim. Okay. Kate, did you get bumped or bruised or hurt anywhere? No. Okay. Look at him when he's talking to you, honey. Look up at him. Yeah, I know it's a long drive face. You're sure you're okay? Mhm. When you were in the car crash, were you wearing a seatbelt? Yeah. Can you show me what seat you were sitting in? That one? Can you show me how you were sitting? You want me to help you with that? Okay. Were you wearing a seatbelt? Show me how you were wearing your seatbelt. Was it clipped Was it just like that or did you have it clipped in? She always clips it. She always wears it. 10-4. Good deal. Very safe. Yeah. This mark on your leg, is that just dirt or is that a bruise? Dirt. Just dirt? Oh, okay. Good deal. And you're you're sure you're not hurt anywhere? Okay. Yeah, you're you can Uh take her at any time. Okay. Um I'm just waiting on a call back from my sergeant. Okay. I wish she was going to have bond. So she's not even officially under arrest at this point. All right, she's detained as part of my investigation. Okay. All right. Um If she does go to jail, she will more than likely have a bond. Okay. I have your phone number. Okay. Um I'll give it to her. She'll be able to call you from jail. Okay. Okay. Yeah. I'll give you all that information. Okay. Sounds good. Do you have any questions for me? Do you want to press charges? Yeah. Okay. Let me get that for you. But she's detained. Um my sergeant's reviewing what I have and will let me know what charges are going to be approved. So Okay. As soon as we find that out, I'll I'll be taking her down to jail more than likely. And then she'll be calling you. Okay. Tell you when to call her. I I can't even I have to tell you that. Okay. Based on whatever charges my sergeant approves. All right. Thank you so much. Yes, ma'am. Thanks for not getting Yeah. everything else involved with the little one. All right, Nate. You got someone here that could drive the car if it comes to that? Okay. All right, your mom. Yeah, I'm going to have to take her to Adrian's. Adrian's? Yeah. >> Yeah, can you give her You got a pen or something I can write these numbers down? And my grandpa will get it out in the morning or whatever. She's got to go to first appearance first unless it's like >> What? Anything else? Hey Ms. Thompson, it's Deputy Young. Not too bad. Um so real quick, I uh I discovered after leaving Dollar General that my body cam had not started recording when I asked you Um Uh-huh. I know I got your statement already, but if you could do me a favor and just give me a a quick rundown of what happened verbally as well, I would really appreciate that. Okay, so I pulled up to the Dollar General to grab my son some Motrin and Tylenol, which is what his doctor told me to grab him. So I needed I needed that and some snacks for the house so I don't have to come back out. So my son was asleep when I pulled up and again, like I said, he got burnt pretty bad on Christmas Day. So moving him around and holding him hurts him when he's not on the medicine. Right. So I had to go through the store to get him Tylenol and Motrin to keep him in motion so that way he's not in pain. Yep. So I wanted to get him that before he wakes up. So I pull in. I told my daughter I said I'm running in the store. She said, "Yes, ma'am. I know the drill." So she locked the door. The doors are locked, windows up, car is running, got the phone in the car, she knows my number, she knows 911. Very intelligent child. I told her to sit in the car. Okay. So I go in the store. I go in the store all the time. I know it up and down so I knew I was only in there about 2 or 3 minutes. Yep. So I grab my stuff, I come back out. Now before I walked into the store, I seen her I actually I heard her yelling at the kid first and before I seen anything. So I looked over at her, reached in the back, right she was swatting at the child, and I just made eye contact with her, and I just shook my head and kept going. I wasn't going to say anything cuz that wasn't my business. But just me catching eye contact with her, I believe is what frustrated her cuz she was already frustrated. So when I By the time I came out of the store, she was yelling at me saying, "Oh, you you you're piece of you black for this is not only left your kids in the car, your toddler is in the car." Now she's not a toddler, she's 6. Yeah. And I was like, "She's fine. The kids are fine. So we have nothing to worry about here." So she kept going on and on cursing me out, and I was like, "Ma'am, how about you worry about your kid that's in your car, and I'll worry about the kid that's in my car." So I put my stuff in the trunk, and I pushed the buggy. While I was pushing the buggy up, she ran her engine, put it in reverse, and then I put the buggy on the sidewalk, I hear a boom, and she rammed her car right into the back of my car. And she was reversing and doing it again, and then I grabbed the phone to record her, and that's when she hurried up and and sped off down the road. Okay. Now, were you looking I I'm sorry to interrupt. Were you looking at her when she or at at her vehicle when it rammed into yours or did that happen as you were Had your back turned? No, no, no. I turned around and I seen her do it. Okay. Um based on how she was driving the vehicle and your prior interaction, do you feel like that was an intentional hit? Absolutely. She intentionally did it. >> Okay. I I know that sounds like a dumb question, but I just had to get that on camera. Yeah, absolutely. She She sped off She rammed her engine so much that the was everywhere. >> Okay. And then she reversed and I was just watching her pulling out my phone because like I said I have a phone in the car and a phone in my hand. I have two phones. I have a work phone and a personal phone. The kid is in the car with the work phone because she of course is going to need a phone if I'm leaving her in the car. Right. So I pulled up my phone to record her and I'm trying to hurry up and you know when you're trying to hurry up to hit the record button and you your fingers just aren't moving fast enough. >> Oh yeah. So I literally seen her ran her engine then she put it in reverse, burnt that really fast, put it in drive and hit the gas real hard and ran into the back of the car and the whole car shifted forward. And she at no point tried to turn away from your car? Um No, she she went directly towards my car. Okay. Um one other thing if you had to guess Um and I know you're not a professional speed measurer, but how how fast do you think she got that car up to by the time it hit your car? I don't know but she did I'm not I'm not 100% sure. >> Okay. But I do know she backed up a pretty good distance to be able to have some force when she hit my car. It wasn't a it wasn't an intentional bump. Like she literally backed all the way up there as far as she could and put it in drive and all you hear is screech. Okay. So you heard the tires screech as well? Yes. >> Okay. Um one other thing you wanted to >> hitting she was hitting the gas faster than the car could go. I got you. No bond. Huh? So as of right now No bond. As of right now the charges are child abuse and criminal mischief. There were cars there were two children in the vehicle that she rammed. Um All right. So criminal mischief is the property damage that's a misdemeanor. Yeah. Child abuse is without without harm without bodily harm is a third degree felony. So there's no bond on that. Huh? So she'll have to >> No bond. She'll have to sit till first appearance in the morning and then the judge will issue her a bond at that point. Okay. All right. Okay. So tomorrow tomorrow morning quickest of that. But child abuse she didn't hit the kids. She knew the kids were in the car cuz she was arguing with the lady about the kids and then she rammed the car the kids were sitting in. Okay. Okay. All right. All right. Yeah. Did you catch that? No I couldn't hear you. Charges? Um child abuse and criminal mischief. All right. There's no bond on the child abuse. So she'll be at first appearance. So she has to go to court. And that would be what Monday? Um no they should have first appearance tomorrow. And not Sunday? Yeah. Even though there was nobody hurt or nothing. >> Correct. Yep. That's crazy but but a pedophile will get a bond. I I don't I don't set the bond. There's a schedule we have to go by. Yeah. The charge is listed no bond. >> mischief and Criminal mischief and child abuse. All right. I want to go ahead and get her down to the jail so she can get processed. All right. The earlier I get her in the more chance she has of getting it first appearance tomorrow instead of Monday. Okay. Y'all need anything call the sheriff's office. Yep. Yes ma'am. I appreciate the call back. Um So I uh after leaving the Dollar General I discovered my body camera did not turn on when I thought I did. Oh darn. Okay. So I I know I have your written statement but the thing you told me uh your your verbal statement did not get captured on camera. Yeah. So I was if it's not too much bother I was hoping you could just run through one more time what you saw. Oh okay. Yes sir. Um do I have to do that in person then or No no I I'm we can do it over the phone. I've got my my camera going now. I've double and triple checked it this time. Um Oh okay. >> So I just I just need your verbal statement. Yes ma'am. Okay. So no problem. So um as I came into the Dollar General I saw that Nissan there with the two adults white female and male in it with their daughter in the back seat. Um As I said before they looked like you know they might be going through some troubling times cuz they weren't happy and in and out of the vehicle so on and so forth. I backed up and then I decided no I'm not going to park there. I pulled back up forward parked and [clears throat] I was sitting in my car uh putting in my coupons on my phone. Okay. And then I had witnessed the male the white male he had turned around backwards in the front seat. He's in the passenger side. Yeah. And he was like um smacking up the little girl that was in the back seat. Okay. I don't know if it was smacking punching because there was also a blanket involved but either way it goes it looked like he was spanking her I would say. Okay. Um and the female got out. She went to the back seat. She talked to the little girl a little bit and put a blanket on her and got back in the front seat and the driver's seat. Okay. And then as I was sitting there I did notice the car pull up but I really wasn't paying much attention to the vehicle that pulled up beside them. Um And then I just seen the one lady get out and walk in. Um Just a few moments later I mean it couldn't have been maybe two or three minutes. It could have been five but I mean you know just sitting there it seemed like it was very quick. Um just a few minutes later I heard some commotion going on outside so I rolled my window down to listen and then when I looked over I realized it was the um lady that was in the car originally the white female with the male the male and um she was arguing with the black female that was putting groceries in the back of her car. Okay. And they were fussing back and forth so on and so forth. The black lady was saying just mind your own business and I mean there were many other words but pretty much that's what I gathered from the everything that was going on. The white lady got out like she was going to walk over to the lady and then she said her peace as you just sat there and the other got back in the car and the black lady closed her um trunk on her thing was pushing her little buggy back up to the sidewalk Yep. and um that's when the white lady white backed out really fast. Well actually she like revved her motor up is what she did cuz like smoke went everywhere and then she backed up real fast and purposely ran right into the back of the lady's car. Okay. And you >> And then she shifted forward like up on the sidewalk a little bit like the front end of it. As far as the tires but like pushed it forward. >> Like the the bumper got pushed up onto the sidewalk. Yes sir. Okay. Now when you said you saw smoke went everywhere was that from her tires or was her engine smoking? That was from her like revving the engine that so much. Like she wasn't spinning and racing or nothing it was just smoky everywhere. Okay. All right. >> Cuz at first the car like wouldn't crank and then she just sat there and went vroom vroom vroom revved it up like I don't think she was doing that because the car wouldn't crank at first. I think she was doing that like out of anger is what it felt like to me. Um now [snorts] you you mentioned that she purposely ran into it. Um that what gave you that impression? Just just the the way she was driving or Oh yeah she was she just like I said she backed up aggressively you know fast and then aimed right where the lady's back of her car and ran into it. She wasn't turning the wheel nothing. Her hands were like okay I'm going to run into you. And I was just like what is this lady doing and she did and she did while the two kids were still in the car. Okay. And um could you see >> And her car was in her car I'm sorry. Yeah. Um Did you know that the victim's children were in the victim's car at the point at that point? I only knew that the victim's kids were in the car when that happened. I didn't even see anything beforehand. Like I said I didn't know what they were arguing about. I just like lady telling her to mind her own business so I really didn't know what was going on. I got you. I didn't know if they knew each other or you know what cuz I don't know either one of them. I just moved to the area. Okay. Let me tell you something. That white woman You Kayla? Yes. I'm deputy Young with the Manatee Sheriff's Office. Okay. What happened Kayla? Um I was pretty much I got upset cuz she left her kids in the car. And Is she uh the black woman in the pink dress Okay. At the Dollar General? Yes. At the Dollar General. Um I when she came out I was like you're a piece of [ __ ] for leaving your kids in the car and she's like what my three-year-old and seven-year-old? And I'm like yeah like you made them babies you take them in and she just started you know you need to shut up cracker, blah blah blah, blah, just talk and um that's when I backed up and then I went to spin out but I hit her car. I thought I could make it. So you're saying that tight parking lot Yeah, I know. Yeah. Okay. So I ended up hitting the vehicle. So it's your statement that you don't you had no intention to hit her No. >> vehicle, is that what you're saying? Okay. Okay. I didn't know it. All right. Yeah. All right. Yeah. Okay. Is that car yours? Yes. >> It's in your name only? Yes. Okay. I don't have the title. That's that's fine. As long as it's registered to you that's what I'm after. Um obviously Nate can't drive. Right. >> Right? I know your grandma's coming to take your uh Nyla up. Yes. Is there someone to pick the car up? His mom. >> His mom? If he can get a hold of her. >> He's got people he can call. >> Yes, yes, yes. All right, bear with me, I got to make a couple phone calls, okay? Yes, sir.
