On June 5th, 2025, watch what happens when officers respond to a late night family dispute after a tense argument and conflicting stories inside the house quickly pull deputies in different directions. >> Recording. >> How's it going? >> Yes, I am. The officer is approaching me right now. >> How you doing? >> Hi. >> You can get off the phone. >> Okay. I'm with the dispatch. I can get off the phone. The officer had advised me that I could get off the phone. Is that okay? Okay. >> What's going on? >> I'm sorry officer. I got nothing on you. On me. I have glider, cigarette, cell phone. >> That's all I have on me. My >> outside. I got nothing else on me. >> Uh we got home. We own a restaurant downtown Elurn. >> Okay. We had some incidents with our 20-year-old daughter. We came home today. >> Is sorry. Is my other partner inside with her? >> No, no one's here except you. You're the first one on the scene that approached me. This patrol off, you know, officer just, you know, came down right now, but you're the first one that came over here right now. No one's here. My wife is inside. My 20-year-old daughter is inside. And my 12-year-old son is inside. >> Okay. So, what happened? >> So, we came home. We were at the restaurant. It was my wife. It was myself. It was my 12-year-old boy. We came home. My 12-year-old daughter is here. My 12year-old daughter is having some problems that we had problems since yesterday. My 12-year-old daughter disrespected me, called me father, this and this. But she continued that today she's calling me drunk this and this. And then we had like a family disagreement. You know, I never did anything to her. I never even put my hand on her as you see my face. She started punching me and slapping me open fist, closed fist. >> Okay. >> 20-year-old daughter. I never laid a finger on her. And I was arguing with her, >> but I never felt I never put my fingers on my or I never did anything on her. This is all she did to me. There's nothing. >> Do you mind? I'm sorry. Do you mind if I get a picture real quick? >> So, this is what my daughter did to me. Yes. >> Sorry. I don't want to blind you. >> No, you're fine. I'm going to close my eyes unless you want my eyes to Okay. So, you guys came home from the restaurant? >> Yeah, we came home from the restaurant >> and started arguing. >> Yeah. some arguments, you know, about what if you don't mind me asking. >> Uh, she was saying you guys are piece of parents. This and this. My wife drove home because I had more to drink than she did. She had two drinks. I had about four or five drinks. >> Okay. >> Okay. I'll be honest with you. So, my wife decided to drive home. >> Okay. >> You know, a long time ago in my history, I learned that I got to be responsible. Many years ago, I had a, you know, uh, DWI. So, I'm being a responsible business owner. My wife drove home. >> Okay? >> You know, and then all of a sudden, you know, we've been having hard time with my daughter. >> Okay. >> We have. And then I tried to tell her, I'm like, "Don't disrespect me. Gave her everything. You live under my roof." >> Mhm. >> And she just went bersark like punch me. I I never knew she could punch like that. >> So, after you told her not to disrespect you, >> don't disrespect me. I'm like, "This is what it is. you don't like anything about this. She's 20. So I told her, >> if you're going to disrespect me, I kind of thought, I'm like, get the hell out. I'm like, you ain't going to disres disrespect me in my home. You're not. I'm like, if you don't like it, go out. And then it was slaps and punches and everything else. And I already know, don't touch a female, no nothing. I was like this. And I told her, I'm like, get out. I'm like, get out. And she kept laying it on me. I never I didn't even touch her. And then my boy was begging me, "Dad, dad, don't call the police." And >> no, they could come up >> because I want my daughter to learn that this is not what you do. Do this. I mean, I've been hit here. I don't know if it shows, but I've been hit on my head here, everywhere. This is the only thing that shows, but I've been hit about 20 times in different aspects of my head. >> So, you think she hit you about 20 times? Yeah. >> Closed fist and open hand. >> Closed fist and open hand. >> Okay. Anything else besides that? Nope. Nothing else. Just my head. >> Okay. >> And so I just want to make sure you said you you never didn't lay any hands on her. >> Not even. >> And this was only the physical aspect was only between you and her. >> Yes. So >> your wife wasn't involved? >> Nope. >> Okay. >> My wife actually when we came over. I went to put my boy inside. >> Mhm. >> My wife came down. She goes like, "Okay, we made it home. She had a cigarette." I'm like, "I'm going to put to bed." Then she just went, "Yeah." You mind if I just get some information off of you? >> Yeah, go ahead. What do you mean? >> You have your license on you? >> I don't I don't know. It's >> somewhere inside the house. >> What's your last name? >> It's been a while now. The female is yelling something. Trying to go to another room. Do we do have prior for domestics as well as batteries here? >> He's still fighting right now. Thank you. >> Where? >> Why is my uh daughter self-defense? >> Where? >> And then my dad just went out in the garage almost. [laughter] >> This is over exaggeration. >> No, this is not a test. >> Please do. Can you do you have your camera? >> Who are you? >> This is my mom. >> I am 19 years old, almost turning 20. This is my brother. They just came home. I got woken up by him knocking on my door and he's saying that she was driving the car. They're both drunk. Goes over almost hits my car in the driveway. And then he's and I'm like, "Is everything okay? I go downstairs." And he's like, "Yeah, it's fine." But they're both jerk. I'm like, "Don't do that." He's in the car. He's scared to death cuz he's only 11 years old. >> Just wonder if I can get my >> Now he's coming in my face telling at me, calling me a and all this stuff. And he's yelling my face. So, I smack him and punch him because he's in my face screaming at me. Is this recording? >> Yeah. >> I'll just And I'm very scared. >> Okay. >> I'm just >> Yes. He was yelling in her face and he was the face. >> Uh, she used self-defense on my dad because >> you >> Yes. No. Uh, my me. >> Yes. [snorts] >> So, she punched him and now he's on the cops with something. >> So, he's out in the garage right now. Yes, if you do a breast test, he won't pass it. Neither will you. >> I I drove and I'm fine to drive and I drive. >> We We got home and I'm fine. I'm ready for bed. So, that's >> Who are you? Who are you on the phone with? >> My boyfriend. >> Okay. All right. So, let me talk to your dad. Are you guys okay up here? >> Everything is going over exaggerated. >> It's not. >> What? It's not. >> It's I'm fine. I'm fine. I'm ready for bed. I'm just waiting. I'm just waiting. >> There's nothing. >> How about you guys stay in your room for right now? I'm going to talk to your mom and I'm going to talk to your dad. >> Well, finally here for your brother. >> Finally. That's funny. I already tried CPS and that didn't work. >> Guys, mom, come here. >> Mom, you're going to play that game. Shut up. >> You're going to play that game. The CPS game. >> It's true. >> I'm ready for bed. >> What's your name? >> What? >> They overexaggerate. >> It's just >> okay. So, what's You guys just got home? >> We just got home and I'm fine. Drive. I'm fine. >> I can already tell. I'm not worried about that, but I can tell you drinking. >> I've been drinking, but I'm fine. Better than him. I know that I've gone fine and that's that. But they overexaggerate. You know what I mean? It's like this has been this hasn't been like the first time. They um this has been the second time >> and they like to overexaggerate the things that we do. And that's >> where were you guys coming from? >> 5 minutes away. We're down the street. >> Okay. So I know my limit and he is over the limit and I have been not and I've have drove home and they just like to over limit and they they like to overexaggerate to be honest and >> so what happened with your husband or you with all them what why is this >> it's over exaggeration to be honest >> and I don't like to waste your time back home and are safe and they like to overexit like I don't want to waste your time and >> okay so what happened with like she she said she slapped him >> thing is that we're dealing with almost a 20-year-old okay she's almost 20 years old and so she likes to overexaggerate stuff so now she wants to >> so this all did this all start because there she's mad that you guys came home and she about the drinking >> yeah pretty much and at the same time Like I know that I am fine to drive and at the same time like she likes over overexaggerate and she manipulates my son. So it's it it's more of >> What is your daughter's name? Was your son with you guys? >> Yeah, both of them are with us. So >> on the in the car ride? >> Him? >> Yes. >> Not your daughter? >> No. >> Okay. >> But they like they'll overexaggerate. So, so I'm I mean we were coming and we're just ready to go to bed and it's like the whole >> And you said Eddie Goodell's. >> Yeah. >> Just down the street like >> Oh, I know. I know. That's small. >> It's on the street 5 minutes away barely. >> We're ready to go and like it's just a whole over. >> Did you get into >> I'm in the front door. They want nothing. >> Go ahead. >> Do they want to go see >> the kids are upstairs? February 21, 198. Everything is over. >> I just I just had them go up there in the room. Check. >> I'm not I'm not >> He's clear on with Gil. >> I'm the mom. Okay. Okay. I'm the mom. Dad's outside. Yes. But I'm not going to over exaggerate stuff because that's what they do. >> Okay. >> And so we came at the time >> 3147 >> at the perfect time. And like >> just the daughter and him. >> Hi. >> I'm going to go upstairs. >> How are you? >> I'm going to years old. >> I am >> okay. Who else is up here? >> Just us two. >> Just you two on the phone with my boyfriend and one. >> Okay. So, were you sleeping? >> No, she >> Okay. >> So, what happened? >> Um, so I was at um my dad's restaurant grill. So, we were trying to get home because my mom was drunk and my mom was very like this and stuff. So, we were driving. My mom was obviously not driving good. So, when we were on in a neighborhood um we were going home for the neighborhood that we go for. Really? >> Mhm. >> Like the back roads. We take the back roads. My mom almost uh really was driving fast and stuff. She hit the curb and when we went home, she was speeding and stuff and all this. Me and my dad were just since my dad was drunk a little. >> Mhm. >> And my mom was even more drunk. >> Okay. >> So >> So it was you, your mom, and your dad. >> Yeah. So we She was at home. So >> So I was going like, "Oh, mom, stop speeding." She tried and then when we got in the driveway, she was like, "I'm just messing with you." Like, and then she almost ran my sister's car, which if you saw it there, it was a Nissan. >> Okay. Um, so we almost hit the car and then she was just laughing. We almost she um hit some flowers on our thing and she was just saying, "Haha, I'm just messing with you guys." Like obviously she has that drunk mood. Even when you intoxicize her, whatever that thing is, she will come out. Yes, she is drunk. >> Okay, >> she was drinking. She is saying that downstairs. That's all exaggeration and stuff and it's it's not anything and you guys will go away, but it's really not. She's obviously she was drinking a lot >> at the at the bar, the restaurant. Yes. So, let me ask you a question. It's 12:00 midnight right now. When did you get home? About >> about 11:30. >> Oh, so you just got home. This all just happened. >> Yeah. He woke me up from my sleep and was knocking on the door a lot. He was crying and in distress saying how scary scared he was about to be in a crash from another person and they like to do this stuff a lot and to manipulate and I've had a CPS case open but they checked it and they closed it out even though I don't think it should have been closed. >> Okay. >> They provided and me for the basic necessities but I've been trying to get my way to move out of here. >> Okay. So then you came knocking cuz you were asleep, right? >> Yes, ma'am. And then um >> came in distress. >> Right. Right. Because you were worried about everything that just happened that you talked about. And so then what happened >> after that? >> So once he came in and he was crying and telling me the same story that you just heard and I'm like that's not okay. And I'm so I go downstairs and they're in the garage. He's like oh they're arguing. My mom and my dad they were arguing in the garage. I'm like hey are you guys okay? Like I heard like what happened. and I don't know why we're drunk and driving my brother around. And they're like, "We're fine. We're fine." And I'm like, "Okay, but that's still not okay to do with a 12-year-old son in the car. Like, it's it's not okay." And I come in back in here and he follows me and he's getting ready for bed. I close my door. >> Your dad follows me. >> My dad follows me back. >> I closed my door to go to and he's trying to like reexlain himself and make himself justified. >> But I told him it's not okay to do that. And he just I can play it for you. I >> He got really mad and he was yelling my face in his face. She used self-defense properly. >> Yelling in your face. >> Yelling in her face. And then my sister used self-defense on him, which is proper. >> So And then he starts yelling at me later and it keeps going. >> So what happened? >> He's in my face and yelling at me right on top of my bed leaning over like this and saying, "Yeah, you are out all this stuff while I'm trying to sleep." And it's scary. In the past, he has gotten a DUI before and had the ankle monitor and he has put his hands on me before and has punched me when he was drunk. Okay. >> So, that stuff really gives me PTSD when he's right in front of my face. So, I put I punched him once and I've slapped him three times. >> So, what happened tonight? Did >> this is tonight and he's calling me a and all this stuff telling me I'm out. >> So, you said you put your hands on him. Like, tell me about that. >> It scared me. I I slapped him three times and I punched him because And that's my first time I've ever done that to a person. So, it's very scary. I don't do that stuff ever. So, yeah. >> Okay. And where were you when this all happened? >> Uh, I was outside just um observing and stuff so I can know what happened so I could if someone asks me um I could tell them yes, it's true, which that is. >> Okay. Did you see your dad in here? >> No, he closed the door. >> Okay. Okay. So, you didn't see anything that happened? >> That's why it's scary. Like, he just likes to do that type of like I don't know how to explain it. >> Okay. >> We've had an argument earlier today because trying to listen. >> Yeah. And it makes it very aggravating when she likes to make stuff up and stuff, but >> Okay. >> No, I get it. I get it. I get it. Okay. Um >> Yeah, it's right here. Okay. Where did you tell my uh supervisor? >> Where do you want me to start? >> Just from the beginning. >> Um I was sleeping here. I >> So you scratched him three or slapped him three times today and punched him once? >> Yes. >> Okay. I mean, I understand what you said, but we got to we got to work on that, too, going forward, you know. Yes, sir. >> Well, yeah. He's he's not happy with you either. >> Before you make any decisions, I want to talk to you. >> Yeah. We'll be back. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> You guys good up here? >> Can Can we walk right down the hall here and talk? >> Oh, yeah. Of course. >> Uh, let's let's take care of you. Medics are here to see you. >> No, I'm I'm But I'm just She punched me a lot of times in the face, so might be a little bit swollen. I feel the soreness, but I'm okay. I don't think so. I'm I I don't need medical attention. But she did she did strike me closed and open fist. >> Okay. >> But it hurts. But >> I'm good. You know >> 181. So >> I didn't ask you what exactly would you like us to do? >> I don't know. Since she hit 18, she thinks that she is this big my mighty adult. And yesterday we had a conversation where I told her, you know, she took from the basement my workout weights. And this might sound silly, right? But she took my workout weights and my uh wife's met for exercising and she took it upstairs, right? So the minute she got off work, I knocked on the room. She's like, "Dad, I'm getting changed." I'm like, "Okay." I said, "Please, whenever you can tonight, take my weights that I use and your mother's mat downstairs to the basement." And then all of a sudden, she went like cycle crazy. Like she's like, "You're a father. You know, you know, happy Father's Day and this and this." and we left it as that we didn't want to escalate at further. So today I texted her. She went to our boyfriends. I text her. I'm like at 2:30 p.m. I need you to be home and you know we got to talk about it. So I said I'm like you know what? You live in my house. I pay for everything. You do not disrespect me as your father and you did not resp disrespect me as your mom. You know I'm like if you want to disrespect us that's fine but move out and live on your own. You're of age. So she apologized today and she said okay this and this and everything was fine until we came home today and her again and I confronted her and I said I'm like no this is not how it's going to work and like I told you I didn't lay my hands on her I kept my hands like this and she kept assaulting me like you see it is and I said enough and enough I'm like I'm going to call the sheriff and I'm like you're going to learn your lesson. >> So what I'm what I'm asking is are you looking to get her arrested? >> Yes. So you want to you're going to sign. >> She needs to learn the lesson. She does. She does. I I I pay for her car insurance. I pay for her, you know, school. I might not be the perfect father. >> You said you drove home. >> Yeah. >> I mean, you've obviously been drinking. Did you drink anything here? >> No. >> When you got home? >> No. >> No. >> Be willing to do fields for me. >> What's that mean? Um, it's for like if you're drunk driving >> no >> no because I know it that I >> would you do a a breathalyzer >> I have a couple free cars available. Can you go up to North D? >> You drove you admitted you drove home. >> Your son said that you guys almost ran into stuff. >> I just drove up the >> up the hill and just >> from Eddie Goodell's. No, >> you said that already. >> I Yes, I drove from Eddie get ill, but I just hit the >> and you I can tell you're extremely >> on this one advis you are going to be getting arrested for DUI who live together and >> just so you know and possibly child endangerment. >> Oh, okay. >> And and it doesn't excuse what she did, but she also was scared. So, >> we need to finish that. >> Who's here? because you're you're going to be arrested right now. >> Who's scared? >> Your daughter and your son. >> She doesn't give a >> clearly she does. I think she did the right thing. >> She doesn't give a though. But at the same time, like I I Yeah, I guess. >> Yeah, you guys you you messed up that that should never happen. >> I got home and I'm fine. >> You're not fine. >> I already asked about fields. She's not doing fields. So finish the cigarette cuz you were going to jail. >> That doesn't make sense. Dude, I need to put it up. >> That doesn't make sense because >> Do you hear me? >> Finish that. I'm I'm being nice right now. I'm going to take it and throw it out. >> That you're being nice, but like it's >> That's nice. >> Can you go through the garage though to go in? >> No, the lieutenant said you he can come in and go upstairs. >> Okay, we're done. >> Okay. >> I I don't know. >> Okay. >> I don't understand why you don't listen. Okay. >> Hold on. >> Can I talk to you, buddy? >> Hey, I'm Lieutenant Hoffman. Come here. >> I want to talk to you. I want to talk to you. Okay. >> Good. >> So, I want to talk to you. Can we go inside and talk real quick? And I'm going to explain to you a few things that's happening, okay? And why? What's happening is happening. And I know you're scared, okay? But you're a good kid, okay? You're a really good kid. Let's go in with your sister and her boyfriend. Okay. >> Okay. Let's go inside and talk. Come on up here. So, the reason I made the decision for my deputies to go the route they were is because you your parents put you in a really bad spot, which created the rest of the incident tonight. Okay. Cuz the other option would be then to arrest your sister for domestic battery, which I'm not going to do. Okay. So, well, I don't want to have to arrest anybody. But unfortunately, you were extremely scared riding home. Correct. So, I have to I I made the decision as the lieutenant on the shift that we were going to talk to the person who was driving and see if they would do field sobriety for us. um she refused. So that's why we're where we're at. Okay. Don't be scared. Okay. But it sounds like you you've had issues in the past, too. And and I don't want you to be scared. And I don't want you to think that we want to come here and do this. This isn't what we wanted today. Okay? But unfortunately, we have a job to do, right? And our job is to make sure you're safe. Right? The last thing I told you when I walked out of your room earlier, I said, "Our job is to make sure you are safe." Do you have any questions for me? >> Uh, what's the what's do they go to prison journal? >> Um, well, it's not prison. She's going to go We work for the sheriff, so she'll go to our county um intake and then um most likely we'll be released or we'll have to see a judge in the morning. So, she'll probably see a judge in the morning and the judge will uh either let her out or say she has a bond. I I'm glad you didn't get hurt in the car today. Do you have any other questions for me? You want a hug? >> No. >> You don't want a hug? >> No. >> You want your sister to come give you a hug? >> No. >> No. >> Okay. >> Okay. Is there anything we can do to help make you feel better? >> No. >> No. Okay. Okay. >> All right. >> Let's go. No, I'm >> Why are you arresting me? >> Because you admitted to driving home. >> Deputy's outside. The young man ran out. >> I'm fine. >> Hey, you can still be arrested for DUI even though you're home like this. >> All right. Do you have anything else on you? >> No. My phone. >> I just wanted you to p my right. >> That's fine. >> I'm on I'm one of my rights right now. >> Do you have anything on you that shouldn't I have my phone and that's all. >> Okay. Do you have any um knives or anything that's gonna stick me or prick me? Okay. No, I don't. All right. Have you man have you face the car? Okay. >> And I'm going to buckle you in. Okay. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> All right. >> So, you want to know what's going on? Sure. >> Yeah. >> I'm going to this one. >> That's why that's why I was saying until you guys let me know. >> I understand what you talked to us about. >> Sorry. >> With your daughter, right? Right. No one should put hands on it on anyone. Right. We We all know that. That's just a rule growing up. Your son and your daughter confirmed that you were in her face. That's not a crime, right? I get that. Yep. >> Yell and I scream at her. That's your daughter. >> We were we were having a disagreement. >> And that's why I said putting hands on you wasn't a right thing either. But also your wife and everyone in there as well admitted that you guys came home from Eddie Goodell's both drunk which you were a passenger so I mean maybe you should have been the word of reason like we need to get an Uber or something with your son in the back. Apparently you guys almost hit a bunch of stuff on the way here. Doesn't mean you did mean I mean that doesn't matter but she admitted. So the thing is with DUIs at home you know they're a little tricky. Usually people don't admit that they were out driving when they're caught up in that. your wife did immediately when I came here. And she did again and I can tell she did admit that she was she had been drinking and that she drove home. >> Yeah. >> And she said she was the the least or she was the sober one, which I think you're the sober one. She's been leaning and falling and that's my point. So there's child endangerment, too, with your son being in the car because that's not okay. And then the DUI part of it. >> Yeah, I [snorts] get that. >> So, we're figuring out something for your daughter and your son for tonight. I know you're the dad. Would you be willing to let her cuz I don't want there to be more issues tonight. If she's an adult, your daughter, she can go stay with her boyfriend. Would that be okay for your son to stay with them for the night? >> No. The son is under my custody. I'm fine with my son. My daughter, she could leave. She caused all of this. I kept my hands behind my back. >> We had a disagreement since yesterday. We had disagreement since long time ago. She is disrespecting me. I pay for her tuition and everything. And I know all of that stuff, right? It's obs. >> No, I don't think it's baby. I I know there's two sides very much to the whole thing. >> She's very disrespectful and she caused all of this. As a father, I love her, but I need her to learn a lesson. I want to press charges against her. This is not how you treat your father. >> And I hear you. >> Wife is a different story. >> And I hear you. And you as the husband though, this is the thing. That's why I mean this other side of the whole story. I mean, I give her credit in a way for being courageous that her folks are coming home that drunk with their with her little brother. And at the at the least, I mean, yes, she should not have touched me. >> I get that. I had to drink. >> She's going to think that I run the water. >> My lesson. I had a DUI. I went through all the classes. >> Someone was I think it was your daughter. >> I were an alcoholic. I will admit it to you. >> I worked very hard, you know. I worked very hard. I had two drinks. two drinks. I was there since 700 p.m. I was okay to drive. My wife, she was kind of like a controlling person saying, "I'm going to drive." I'm like, "Okay, hun." I'm like, "Fine. You want to drive? I ain't going to argue with you because I'm not going to argue with my wife. You want to drive >> about driving drunk with your child in the car?" >> No. No. She was not. She drove home. Okay. Nothing happened. We pulled into here. >> Look at that's not even parked correctly. >> That's however that's however she drove. But that's exactly that's how she drove. >> Exactly, >> sir. >> But we're trying to get out of that. I didn't want to argue with my wife. Okay. >> So that's it. >> But what if you guys could just We're playing devil's advocate. What when you made that decision knowing I mean neither of you should have been driving. It sounds like even if you had a couple drinks, neither of you should have been driving regardless. >> Especially, you know, it's one thing if you both ma are making a conscious decision as partners like we're going to we're we're going to just drive home and risk our lives. She should have. >> But you took somebody that has no skin in the game. >> I I get it. She should have not drove. >> And so then there's that other part then you knowing all these things because you still shouldn't have been driving regardless. But if you knew she was even more hammered than you and you just let her like I don't know how you come up like because you don't want to argue like >> Yeah, that's it. I don't want to argue. >> What happens? I mean other people that are driving home on the road. >> No, I get that. >> I Okay, I'm going to >> Can one of us call DCF? Well, you're going to go and I know, but I'm just Hold on.
