On September 16th, 2025, multiple social media reports alerted the Sheriff's Office to a user behaving suspiciously, prompting officers to open an investigation. There's chatting in there. Yeah. Um, like I said up at the house, the reason we're having this conversation today is I received a number of, um, for lack of a better term, tips that come to me from, uh, electronic service providers like like Google, Discord, Kik, uh, Facebook, Instagram. >> Mhm. And those are generated when a user does something that gets flagged by their system. Generally speaking, somebody at that, we call them an ESP, sits down, they review what whatever it was and then they fire off these reports to us. We look at them, investigate as necessary. That being said, do you have any idea why we're we're talking today? Can you keep talking? Okay. Part of my hope is that this is a two-way conversation. Um, it doesn't do me a whole lot of good to just sit here and talk. Well, I'm I'm I'm guessing I'm using my powers of inference that somebody flagged something and that's where we're at. I mean, is that is that wrong or are we looking for more expansion? I was just curious if you wanted to talk about why we're here or if you want me to lay out all the cards that I have and then we can The only thing I can think of is I had a Discord account that was hacked and I went to go do something on it and it said you've been banned. No, I haven't been on that for not even on my phone. Well, since you bring that up, when you were using them, what were you, laptop, desktop? >> Well, I usually I'm on the phone. I don't wouldn't I don't have a computer of my own. My wife has her computer. Okay. So, you don't you don't have any laptops or desktops that are solely yours? >> No. Um, just the computer provided by the school? Yeah. Okay. Which is at school. Okay. What about email addresses? Do you What email accounts do you have? Well, for spam and for signing up for things, it's gmail.com. Okay. For more professional gmail.com. Okay. So, you say So, it's those are your two email accounts, talk about your Discord account. You don't remember what your Kik one is? No. Okay. So, these are all of the reports Oh, wow. >> gotten. There's a abnormal amount of them. Okay. Um, and part of the reason is through it's because of continued use. Uh, Okay. every time a user does something that gets flagged, it generates one of these reports. Generally, we only get one, two, maybe three of these um, before we end up having this conversation. I have eight. Like I said, that's an abnormal number. >> Yeah. To clarify a little bit, the activity is [snorts] generally, um, I don't How familiar are you with like computer terminology, electronic stuff? >> I'm passing familiar with certain Okay. So, every >> for questions if if you if I don't understand. I It's I'll I'll simplify it a little bit more. So, every piece of data that exists has, uh, something called a hash value. It's a super unique value, can't be recreated. I like I think it's like a million times more unique than your own thumbprint is. Uh, and that's specific to photos and videos which are the types of content that these ESPs flag. Okay. Um, there is a very large database of known hash values, um, specifically related to something we call CSAM which is child sexual abuse material. >> Okay. Seems like you're familiar with the term or Well, I mean, this able to work it out. >> Right. Okay. Yeah. And so, as we go through this process with people and these images get identified, this hash value gets put into this database. And so, when one of these ESPs sees one of these known hashes get uploaded or downloaded, Mhm. triggers one of these. Then a user with a a an employee of the company sits down, they review it and ensure that yeah, Mhm. this is actually what happened and they fire off one of these reports. Sometimes it's a batch of things. So, 10, 20, 30 things get sent, we just get one report. Right. If they're separated by more than a few days or a week, then we start getting multiple reports. Does that kind of make sense how that process works? >> sense. So, like I said, I have eight of them here. Okay. Uh, the most recent, uh, actually happened on Friday or came in on Friday. But they are all originated from Discord and Kik. See, and I haven't been on Discord for Well, you said since June. Um, which the bulk of these, uh, originated from either very early June all the way back through March of this >> Yeah, okay. They do relate back to the username that that you gave, um, Colonel Angus 44. Okay. part of what comes in these reports is it gives, uh, they give us the s- s- what's it called? Subscriber information. >> Mhm. So, anything you used to sign up for the account including email addresses, phone numbers, things like that. Um, the email address used to sign up for these was, uh, the your Gmail account or a Gmail. Mhm. The other big thing that it gives us is for each explicit image that's uploaded or downloaded, transferred, it gives us the date and time stamp that it happened and then the IP address that it originated from. >> Okay. So, with that information, we sit down and we I send off subpoenas or search warrants to in this case it was to Comcast for the IP address. Mhm. Uh, they came back and said that your wife is the subscriber for that particular ISP address and its services, 97 Yelling Drive Yelling Place. Right. Um, a search warrant is sent off to, uh, Google Mhm. Gmail account which is how we ended up with your name. >> And we saw that. Maybe you kind of knew this was coming or >> No. I didn't know this was coming. I just said they said that as a matter of course they had to submit my my data or whatever it was and they couldn't talk about it but now they could. Okay. And that didn't seem I don't seem concerning but what am I going to do? Okay. When did you receive that? Last week. Okay. So, just recently? >> ago. Yeah, something like that. Okay. With all of that being said, we're not here by mistake. Right. Right. We've put in our due diligence to get to to this point and I'm extremely certain of why you're in the position you're in. That being said, we like to have these types of conversations to try to give you or whoever it is an opportunity to explain, you know, what it is that was happening or maybe the motivators or is there something that's been going on for a long time or something that's come up new. In your case, I am one of my concerns is you are in a position of authority at a school. So, clearly there's some additional concerns there, right? Your access to children that are seeing content that was uploaded and downloaded being discussed. I mean, is this something that you're willing to talk about with me or Mhm, to an extent. Okay. To an extent. How long have you been, I guess, doing this, seeking it out, collecting? It's been less than a year. So, like maybe late fall or winter? >> probably February. Okay, so about the time that these reports started. Cuz I think my first one is probably early March-ish. Yeah. Okay. What was the What drove that? I accidentally was talking to somebody on Reddit. I think and they sent it to you? Yeah. Okay. Mhm. And then you just kind of were like, "Oh, yeah, this is kind of the thing." and went down the rabbit hole. Never I never sought it out. Didn't go looking for it. Didn't do internet search. Not looking for any of that. It's You know, as you well know, there's folks out there that have a lot of things. Very aware. Okay. And was it like you said you were having this conversation with somebody on Reddit. They Did they just kind of offer it up to you? How did that conversation come about? >> It it was an RP thing, role play, sort of thing. We started talking on Reddit then Okay. Like, sexually? Yeah. Okay. >> Sort of stuff. And so what this person said, "Hey, are you interested in looking at this?" or It was It was I think it was sent without any You know, we were doing sending clips back and forth of Okay. you know, various adult activities. Okay. Usually Reddit stuff or Okay. Sometimes Sometimes some, you know, things like that. After this interaction with this Reddit user, is this Was there like a continued back and forth conversation with the same person or did you kind of start to stumble across other people? >> Just came across others. Okay. Tell me about some of those interactions. Same sort of thing. People posting, looking for, you know, female looking for male, online chatting stuff. I've never done anything IRL. Okay. >> Everything's always been online. And that's a very important distinction between the position I'm in. I have never done anything with a student at at a student. Never used access their information. Never done anything like that. It's all been online. And and like I said, that's that's one of my main concerns right now is >> [snorts] >> your access to children and this being the content. >> Well, right now I'm on administrative leave because I wasn't sad that Charlie Kirk got shot. Okay. And I I When somebody was talking about it, I said, "Oh, too bad. Good riddance." Okay. And they got me. So, I'm don't have access to anything anyway. Okay. So, at the meeting you were at earlier today? Okay. Were they just now placing you on admin leave? Or >> No, that happened on Thursday. Okay. So, just random interactions with other users. It appears like it's mostly through Discord. Is that That I use Discord for very very little. Okay. Honestly. And that was that one was more I don't know. I had didn't use Discord. I had a couple of good connections that I used. Well, hey. Obviously, there were a couple of connections. What Were those the same scenario like you found that role playing and It's both. Sometimes I'd post an ad saying you're looking for somebody to chat with, uh Okay. Those sorts of things. And it just kind of evolves. >> [snorts] >> Yeah. Okay. Um when you do receive these images, or I'll even walk that back a little bit. Um have you ever uh reciprocated to receiving the images? Like you They send you an image, so you send back one that you've gotten in the past or video? That has happened. Okay. And just to clarify, we we are talking about um CSAM-related content. Okay. Do you know if this is happening on Reddit or or through Discord? Um I mean, Reddit's where I where I meet people. Okay. What about the exchanges? Um yeah, Discord, I guess. Okay. But you said you've never sought this out in real life. You've never No. No, I've never created I've never produced I've No. Okay. And this Like I said, this was a stumble across, you know. Mhm. Yeah. Have you Do you Obviously, if you're reciprocating, sending them back, you have these images and videos saved somewhere. Is it on your phone? Do you have a hard drive? >> I don't have any anymore. You deleted them all? Well, I don't have any. Okay. Help me understand what you mean by that. Cuz you did You made an important distinction there that They They are I do not have any images in my phone or on computer or anything like that. Okay. Anything that I've gotten has been deleted. I don't I wasn't comfortable keeping things on there. Okay. So, you only held them for a couple months you were doing it and purged it. >> going back and then you know, you get It's like, "No, I can't have this. This is not good." And prior to this year Mhm. um when you were interacting with people doing uh fantasy or role play type stuff, um were you doing this regularly with adults prior to this year? Not really. No. And so This is At some point when you got into exchanging and role playing with the adult stuff, how did you get the the underage stuff? How did that transition? >> as you're aware, [clears throat] there's a lot of folks who like to do age play sort of things. Mhm. And that's not >> of what I thought you were alluding to. The you know, it it it was age play. And then the the images were given to you through that without your solicitation. Is that correct? >> At first. Okay. And Well, I never It's very important. Mhm. I never said, "Hey, I'm looking for this. Mhm. I want to see this. Mhm. I'm seeking this." Mhm. It usually ended up happening in a matter of course. Um and and I I think what my partner is trying to work out here is when you say in a matter of course is your role playing through this age scenario where I Is it that you're the older person and this other person is playing >> I have been. I have gone I've gone Yeah. Okay. Um and as this role play is going on, how does it transition from the role play to you getting or sending Yeah, as you're talking, you send images to illustrate what the scenario is that's going on. Okay. >> Or And so this organically without >> Yes. without asking to receive or to give, it's just as part of the play the exchange of those two things. Okay. And then but like you you were saying earlier, you you would occasionally reciprocate where you would get an image in and then you would send And to clarify, most of these seem like they're videos versus just like still photos. If you had to guess, what was the average age range in of the juvenile or the child in the videos? Or was there an average age range? >> I I don't know that I could. Preteen to teen. So, like 10 to 12? 8 to 10? >> Could be. Okay. I'm not super great at guessing ages based on And being in your position, how do you get yourself into a situation where you're even sticking your toe in that pool? I know. I mean, it's I mean, do you think that, you know, there's no way they'd find out or I don't know that the thought goes that deep. at the time. Mhm. You mean you've seen people. You've seen You guys This isn't your first rodeo and Unfortunately. >> that sort of thing. Yeah. Um Sometimes compulsion. Yeah. Those things. And sometimes you get into things without even messing then next thing you know, you're neck deep. When you were going through this prior to deleting it, what devices were you using? Just phone. Just your cell phone? Mhm. Okay. Never any computer. Never got stored on a thumb thumb drive, hard drive. Too afraid it would get found. That's I mean, that's just asking for issues. I mean, it it's enough. Uh the cell phone that we Mhm. Okay. The part of the reason I asked is >> [snorts and clears throat] >> even though you've deleted that stuff Mhm. it actually still is held in the device's memory. It's not necessarily user-accessible from the front end, but I can go back and see Mhm. um what has and hasn't been there in the past. Um that is I I guess full disclosure up front is my primary duties here are what we're doing right now, the these investigations and then specifically the digital forensics, which is going through devices, computers, stuff like that. So, following this interview, that'll be my next course of action is to go through your phone, go through your laptop. Like the search warrant, which a copy was left with your wife. To kind of clarify that, the search warrant does not explain my investigation at all. All it states is the areas to be searched and who it was signed by. I do not know whether or not my partners are going to talk to your wife about this. Mhm. So, I can't make any promises or the opposite from my current position. She did like a story about identifying a vehicle. So, I apologize for the use of a ruse. Um unfortunately, in doing this, we do occasionally come across people that choose to be the opposite of cooperative. And what we would like to prevent is any sort of escalation. We would like to keep it as civil and upfront as we can, go through the process, and let people go back to their lives, but it's not always the case. So, the easiest thing is to try to separate you from the house and then we can have a conversation. I did get the impression that she probably was not I didn't invite you to my Yeah, she probably thought that. Well, to be fair, it wasn't me standing at the door, but it was some of our patrol guys, but I digress. They might need to find a better story. Mhm. Well, I just want you to know you're dealing with reasonably intelligent people. Were any of the people that you were doing this role play with and sharing with or any of them local? No. Just random people you came across? Okay. Internet anonymity. Have you I'm familiar with it. Haven't really delved into it, though. Not not tons and tons. Okay. There's a The reason I asked is there's a conversation that I came across out of your Kik account where you You talking with another individual basically about sharing CSAM and Telegram gets brought up. And so I was curious that was if that was a road that you already gone down or were looking at exploring for its I I'd heard about it. I'd done a little bit with it but not Okay. not tons. I What about any other You said you've never sought this out. It's always come up through these role-play scenarios. Okay. So you there's no websites or internet sources that you've gone to outside of that. Okay. Have you ever learned I know you said that the the one of the points of it is its anonymity but have you ever learned the identity of any of these people you've chatted with? No. Very sometimes it goes on long enough that people develop a connection and want to know who the other person is which Any Anybody who I've connected with hasn't fit long-term hasn't been that. Okay. You know I You know when 100% honesty I carrying on a long a long-distance extramarital activity Currently? Yeah. Okay. But even that person you don't actually know who they are yet. I mean I I have a good idea who She lives in Boston. Okay. Um the devices at home and so to be clear none of the devices at home that they're probably confiscating as part of the of the warrant none of those items were ever used for any of this activity. Not by me. Okay. And you say not by you. I have a 20-year-old son. Mhm. And I do not go into his room very often. Okay. Since we're walking through that door Do you have any reason to believe cuz you I know nothing about him but do you have any reason to believe that No. Okay. Is your wife aware of these activities? No. Okay. So this Well now It'll be a surprise to her. Yeah. Okay. Cuz sometimes you know the wives know and they No. either tolerate it or encourage it or whatever. No. Um okay. And then that was the one that actually got him. Right. Right. So Interesting. Colombo me. Now no early on in the um the interview you said back in June your kid or your Discord account got hacked. Is that Are you being honest or truthful in that statement? Yeah. I I had no idea what was going on until I went to log in and it said you've taken action against terms and services. Okay. So what that was I that's why I wanted to clarify that was did it actually get hacked or so what you ran into was when they closed your account because of those those violations. That's well so that's what they do. When they fire off these um reports to us typically they will lock a user's account out. Um I just want to clarify that it wasn't suddenly all of a sudden somebody else was posting. There was one other thing. >> in June this stopped in June. What happened in June that caused that to stop? What the Discord thing? Uh the whole viewing of the CSAM and that. Just feeling you know some some kind of way and it's like this isn't Mhm. This is not good. Something bad's going to happen and I need to Yeah. Stop it. Yeah. I need to I need to try and stop them. Okay. Have you been successful in staying away from it? Mostly most part. When you say for the most part like Every so often stuff will pop up but I try not to engage and For him. Just trying to be there. That was genuine. Okay. I was I had my my Costco card in I didn't as I was going to leave my desk where your phone currently is I realized that it was a wallet type case. Mhm. And I I'm keeping your phone as part of the evidence but I'm not going to keep these so I'm going to take these over to jail with you.
