You've heard of highstakes fugitive hunts, but did you know Georgia's State Patrol has a special unit built just for this? Felony troopers who specialize in tracking down the most dangerous criminals on the run. On June 9th, 2021, they put that training to the test. This wasn't just any pursuit. The man behind the wheel was wanted for murder, accused of killing his own family member. When troopers caught sight of the suspect's Dodge dart, they knew there was no room for error. [Music] [Music] Not today. 33. [Music] It's my go [Music] clear. [Music] All right. We are. [Music] Knowing how dangerous this suspect was and that he was willing to shoot. Troopers had no time to waste. After he tried to run down a pedestrian, the lead trooper made a split-second decision. There was no waiting for backup. No more warnings. With lives on the line, he took responsibility and went for the pit. [Music] 85 north. Nope. Staying 285. Pit pit. 943 pit. Pick. [Music] All right. 1050. He's still moving. He's still rolling. [Music] Still rolling. He's coming. He's coming at you. 4943 coming at you. Get on the ground now. Get on the ground. Get on the ground. Do not shoot. Do not shoot. The suspect fled on foot, reached for a gun, and aimed it at officers. Fearing for their lives and those of others nearby, troopers opened fire, striking the suspect and ending the threat. He was secured. disarmed and given medical treatment at the scene. He was then transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The pursuit was over, but not before it tested the nerves, training, and courage of every trooper involved. What happens when your street takeover meets Georgia State Patrol? Let's just say rubber wasn't the only thing burned that night. On July 31st, 2021, a trooper spotted a Chrysler 300 doing donuts in the middle of a busy Atlanta intersection. Blue lights flipped on, but instead of pulling over, the driver hit the gas 4280 southbound on Frank Henry 36. We are crossing over Brownsville. Got some traffic. Uh he's going road traffic right here down road. Clear. [Music] The driver began pushing dangerous speeds, weaving past cars, and ignoring traffic signals like they didn't exist. For a moment, it looked like he might actually outrun them. But this is GSP we're talking about, and they don't quit. [Music] Come down. Westbound. [Music] [Music] 482 almost in brakes clear all the way down low and lane got unit right here in front of [Music] Even with backup units joining the pursuit, the odds weren't exactly in the trooper's favor. But as the pressure built, the suspect started slipping. One reckless swerve at a time. And when you're running from GSP, one mistake is all it takes. under 85 northbound on Metropolit. North Metro across 85 westbound roadbaker. Two flat towers. Two flat towers. Clear street. Oh, get on the ear. Oh, you don't up, man. We are 16. Uh, we're going about 80 setting up for 42. Good attempt. Uh, failed. Setting up again. We're cross under Pri Road. He's going to try to film again. Approaching fire. [Music] [Music] A forceful pit sent the Chrysler spinning off the road and into a parked truck. The driver bailed, fleeing on foot, but you don't outrun Georgia State Patrol for long. With APD's help, he was tracked down, arrested, and booked into Fulton County Jail. Wisconsin might be known for cheese and cold winters, but on this night, it served up a high-speed chase straight out of an action movie. On March 28th, 2023, two men in a stolen vehicle led Greenfield police on a wild pursuit through Milwaukee. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] After blowing through every red light and ignoring every traffic law in sight, the suspect showed no signs of slowing down. The officer closed the distance. And because with driving this reckless, it was only a matter of time before someone got hurt. [Music] You really [Music] just turn left. No traffic. Traffic I think [Music] 57 [Music] We got Milwaukee with us. The pursuit came to a decisive end near South 27th Street and Lincoln Avenue where officers executed a textbook pit maneuver. The stolen vehicle was stopped and both suspects were taken into custody without further incident. Thankfully, no officers were injured. It's not every day you see a Ford Crown Vic outrun cops in 2021, but this one wasn't just fleeing. It had already rammed patrol cars and was heading straight into more populated territory. With other units tied up, one lone trooper stood between a reckless suspect and disaster. It all began on February 6th, 2021. when troopers were still dealing with the aftermath of an earlier pursuit when a call came in. Green County was chasing a suspect westbound on I20 and he wasn't slowing down for anyone. Heat. Heat. 915 miles from 1050. 1050. Just as the trooper took over the pursuit, he sent the suspect straight into the median. But things were far from over. Let me see your hands. Let me see your hands. Let me see your hands. Open the door. Open the door. It's locked. He's hunched. He's slouched over. I can't see what he's doing. Show me your hands. All doors look locked. I can't tell what he's doing. You want to break the window? You got to ask window. Yeah, break it. I ain't got to ask. Show me your hands. Show me your hand. He's got a gun. You got a gun? Drop ass now. He's shot. And that's when troopers opened fire. As they shattered the driver's window, they saw it. He was armed, gripping a handgun. Just seconds later, the suspect raised it toward them. Shots rang out. Troopers returned fire, striking the suspect. He was pulled from the car and rushed to the hospital where he later died from his injuries. Did you know Michigan State Police patrol vehicles are equipped with in-car radar systems that can estimate a suspect's speed even as they fly past in the opposite direction that came in handy during this wild pursuit where a silver Ford Fusion tore through Shyawasi County at over 100 mph until the driver made one critical mistake. While on patrol in Shiaasi County, Sergeant Berdan spotted the suspect vehicle. Already wanted for fleeing in Clinton County. Knowing the risk, he didn't hesitate to act. With backup units staging ahead for stopsticks, the sergeant initiated the pursuit and the chase was on. Central almost collided with several vehicles. Clear. set up under the bridge of the 119. Clear. We're in the fast lane right now. 13 speed at 120. Traffic spike. 76. He's in the right lane right now. All right. He's in the fast lane now. We're coming up over the hill. We'll be seeing you shortly. Good. He's in the right lane now. He's going to pass on the right shoulder. As the chase progressed, the driver continued to endanger countless lives. Up ahead, another patrol car was ready to intercept. But this trooper wasn't handing it off. He stayed locked in, determined to take control and end this chase on his own terms. 76. I got eyes on you. He's on the right shoulder. He just rammed me. Central 13. I pushed him into the median. We crashed out. [Music] Hold on. Hold on. In the car. Relax. On the ground. On the ground. On the ground. On the ground. Get up. On the ground. Who else in the car? Who else is in the car? Relax. Relax. Relax. Relax. The driver, Edward Donny Ray Hardy, was taken into custody without further incident. A loaded handgun was recovered by K9. And inside the car, cocaine, marijuana, a digital scale, and nearly $400 in cash, all packaged for sale. Hardy was turned over to MSP Lancing for the original fleeing charge and is now facing a stack of felonies in Shyawasi County. No injuries reported, but one more armed suspect is off the road. They say seat belts save lives, but for one man not wearing one sparked a full-blown highway pursuit. What began as a simple traffic stop turned into a chaotic 100 mph chase across county lines. It all began on May 8th, 2022, just before 400 p.m. in Baxley, Georgia. SUV Nissan with a Florida tag. [Music] We going to be on uh Anthony Street coming up on Pine Street. Anthony Street. All right, we're going to be making a left here on the homestead. Left on the homestead. Clear. Clear. Clear. Clear. Hey, we almost 1050. We on uh City Circle Diesel SUV. All right, we're going to be coming making a left back on uh Lexure Highway 47. You have anybody? The trooper lined up for the pit, but in a split-second decision, he backed off, thinking it wasn't the right moment. Unfortunately, that hesitation gave the suspect more room to spiral. What followed was pure recklessness, blowing through traffic near head-ons and pushing the limits at over 100 mph. Running several vehicles off the roadway. Stop. No cars coming. [Music] There's river on traffic. There's traffic. As the suspect's driving grew more erratic by the second, the trooper knew time was running out. He lined up again for the pit, but the suspect wasn't making it easy. Swerving side to side, he did everything he could to block the takedown. All right. I just tried to make and he he's swerving back and forth. Slow down. Slow down. Slow down. Slow down. Slow down. Slow down. Slow down. Now, what's your location? Going back [Music] up on old road here down [Music] roll. [Laughter] The trooper executed a flawless pit, sending the SUV rolling several times before coming to rest. McQueen immediately bailed out and fled into a wooded area, but didn't get far. Officers caught up quickly, and what they found was no surprise. Alcohol on his breath, bags of suspected drugs, a Glock pistol, and a long list of charges, including a warrant out of Florida. On October 18th, 2022, ATF agents and local officers were in a standoff with a driver tied to drug and weapon charges. But he wasn't going down easy. After struggling to stop him, they called in backup. That's when trooper James Bird stepped in. And the moment he joined the pursuit, everything changed. [Music] I'm directly behind the suspect vehicle this time in traffic. [Music] All right, throwing stuff out the window. 19. [Music] I got semis around me right now. I am lead. What your speed? 82 miles an hour. [Music] Running 85 mph in the left lane. 85 m in the left lane. Even though the driver kept gesturing like he was about to pull over, Trooper Bird had seen enough of these games to know better. The chase had been dragging on for a while and Bird wasn't buying it for a second. Tractor trailers [Music] 84 milesPH still northbound. Right lane still busy trucking trailers. I'm in the left lane. 90 mph. Hit [Music] pit pit hit p hit. Think they're still going to try to go. [Music] Trooper James Bird showed everyone exactly how it's done. The suspect learned the hard way why running from the Arkansas State Police is never a smart move. To make matters worse, he had his own kids in the car during the pursuit. Thankfully, the chase ended without further incident. He was arrested on the spot and no additional information has been released. You'd think stealing a taxi isn't the brightest getaway plan, especially when the town only has a handful of cabs, but that didn't stop 27-year-old Jacob Rollins from grabbing one and leading deputies on a wild ride across Chilean County. Deputy Lee Rzden spots the stolen taxi rolling through downtown Wanachi and what starts as a routine recovery turns into a high-speed pursuit across the Odabashian Bridge and northbound onto Highway 297. your location collision in that area. I'll be around six. I believe a deputy might be behind it. Standby. We're on the off [Music] Highway 2 approaching the turn off to 972 interchange. Looks like vehicle out. vehicle. [Music] The suspect had already slammed into multiple vehicles and just kept going like nothing happened. Knowing the danger he posed to everyone on the road, Deputy Risden moved in and went for the pit, but came up just short. Right. We're going to be going south and going northbound. [Music] Both lanes cars off the road on both sides and we're at about 45 mph. Copy. cars off the road. 45 mph [Music] to continue. [Music] This chase raises more questions than answers. Like, how on earth did he keep fleeing after that crash? But even with all that determination, the damage to his vehicle was too much. The impact had taken its toll and the suspect's car was now barely holding together as deputies closed in. [Music] [Music] The suspect, Jacob Rollins, was finally stopped. Deputy Lee Rzden brought the chase to an end, and Rollins was taken into custody. He now faces charges for eluding police, possessing a stolen vehicle, DUI, and meth possession.
