No. Nope. >> You don't got to be rough with me, man. >> What the hell? >> Got three of us here. All right. Good. >> Hey, ma'am. Excuse me. >> Detain. >> People put in long hours to earn an honest living and provide for themselves [music] and their families. Yet, there are always those who think the rules don't apply to them. treating stores like their personal graband go. With law enforcement keeping a close eye, these so-called professionals quickly find out that their actions come with swift and very real consequences. >> First of all, I'm not going to do the attitude. I'm not going to have her sitting here digging her bag when I don't know what's in the car. Got it. >> Well, I'm telling you. >> Great. Okay. And I'm telling you, >> police respond to reports of three 18-year-old females shoplifting at Sephora. One girl claims she was only testing a concealer, returned it to a worker to prove she wasn't stealing, and then left the store. >> And I was going to buy a concealer and then I was opening to try on my [ __ ] which is on my hand. And then she was like, "Oh, are you going to take?" And I'm like, "No, I'm not going to take it." So then she started assuming that I was like going to steal the stuff from Sephora. So then I went up to one of the workers from there and I gave her the concealer and I was like, "Look, like so you could know I'm not taking anything." And then I just left the store. >> Okay. cuz she's like saying that you guys like necklaces and makeup and >> No, we we didn't even get through like the actual call. >> We actually told her and she didn't say anything. >> She didn't say anything. She said she was like, "Sorry about my coworker's actions." And I was like, "No, you just need to make sure that not making it like seem like we're trying to steal anything." >> Yeah. >> You know, so that's why I I gave her like the concealer back and she took it back. You couldn't even go and ask her. I gave her the concealer and it was like this spray sanitizer thing. I just gave it back to her and she just took it back. So, you never gave you never took anything? >> Oh, no. We went to other like we went to an Ulta, but we bought the stuff there and everything. They see me buy everything. >> The teens insist they bought items at Ulta and didn't steal from Sephora. Tensions rise when officers ask them to stop digging in their bags for safety reasons, leading to arguments about feeling targeted. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Do you mind stay? I'm going to go talk to Okay. >> Can you stop digging your bag? >> She's looking for her phone. >> Okay. I don't want her digging into her bag. You can literally open the door if you want. I don't care. >> No, I'm just being honest. Like, if you want to look, >> I'm not going to go searching through your car. But I don't >> I need a warrant if you're going to look at my car, but I didn't. Okay. First of all, I'm not going to do the attitude. I'm not going to have her sitting here digging her bag when I don't know what's in the car. Got it. >> Well, I'm telling you. Okay. I'm telling you, she's looking for I'm telling you I don't care what she's looking for. I don't want her digging her bag when I don't know what's in the car. >> So, lose the attitude. Thank you. >> I'm just like feel like I'm being targeted. But if you want >> Why are you being targeted? because I asked her to stop digging through her bag >> and I told you why she was digging through her bag. >> Okay. And I'm telling you, I don't care cuz I don't know what's in the bag. >> I apologize. I apologize. >> I'm not giving energy. It's just the fact that she's like, "Oh, hey." Like, you know, like I understand why. >> Okay. >> I just don't understand. >> Okay. Nobody's charging you. We got called here because you guys were allegedly doing something. One girl explains again that she returned the concealer and spray directly to a Sephora employee, claiming suspicion arose because of her ethnicity. Mexican compared to the white store employee following them. >> That's why we're here. >> Okay. I'm sorry. >> No, we understand. >> We understand. >> Yeah, we understand. >> Did they tell you what's going on? I'm like really confused cuz we went to Sephora and I was getting stuff and I they even give me a little bag and then after like the a girl like I seen that she was like walking around behind me. So then I went up to her and I was like here like I'm not going to take this just to make sure cuz I feel like you're thinking that I'm going to steal it. So I gave it back to her. She was like, "Thank you so much for giving it back to me." And I was like, "Just tell your co-workers to not make it seem to customers that come in making it seem like they're stealing or something cuz they're not going to want to come back." And I gave her the concealer and the little spray back and she just said, "Thank you so much. I will talk to my coworkers." And we just went back inside >> and then we came to the car. So I'm like, "I'm confused." I'm like, "I don't know." I didn't take anything. I gave it back to her. It was a concealer and a little spray. >> Was it in Sephora or was it outside? >> It was in Sephora. >> It was inside. >> Yeah, it was in Sephora. But we left because we felt like we were just like >> Yeah, we just left cuz I was like it it was like I mean >> me as like a Mexican girl, she was a white girl so I felt some type of way cuz she was just walking behind us all the time and I was like usually when I go to stores like nobody's like looking at what I'm doing and I was like I told her I was like here like if you think I'm going to steal the concealer here's the concealer and here's the spray. And I gave it to her in her hands and she just walked back out. She was like, "Okay, thank you. I will talk to my co-workers about it." And I was like, "Okay, >> okay." >> I think at this point they're just going to check cameras to make sure that the everything's legit. >> Yeah. >> But appreciate you cooperating. >> No. Yeah, it's good. >> I would have. >> Police mentioned checking surveillance footage. Teens say they recently graduated high school and are not skipping classes. >> Asked you guys if we're supposed to be in school. You look young. >> I mean, she's supposed to be at work. Um, I'm currently working, too. [laughter] >> So, you're not in school? No, I just graduated recently. >> Oh, that's good. >> Yeah. >> Can I talk to you? >> Yeah. Can you step out with your purse? >> I'll talk to you. So, I just saw video. >> After viewing surveillance, officers confront one suspect and ask her to admit what she took. She becomes hesitant, then reveals she has items in her possession. >> So, do you want to tell me what you took? I can figure out this. >> So, there's a thing like the holes. They want to second. >> How long am I going to be a risk? >> Um, it just depends. Is there anything in your pocket that belongs to anything sharp or knives weapons or anything? >> 122 23. >> You just got my little pouch you just had. It was a little broken. I don't know why I fixed it. >> Is there anything else in your closet I'm going to find right now? >> I just got my B and then I don't know what I got. >> No other purses are going to pop up. >> I think I just got like a couple things that my friend gave me. >> Officers find stolen items, including vapes and a pouch hidden on the suspects. The teens initially deny but gradually admit to having taken some products. >> In this front right pocket vape. >> The vape is right there. >> I got two vapes. >> Okay. Is that yours or is that holes? >> That's mine. >> I didn't fall off of this. >> Probably. >> All right. Can you step out so I can talk to you? >> Yes. >> All right. So, other than you putting that in your bra, >> what else did you take? >> All right. I'm going to search you. So, put your hands right here. Just put your >> wallet and phone down. Turn around. >> You don't have anything else, >> correct? >> Okay. >> How did your friend get that? >> What? >> How did she get that when it was in your shirt? >> She got No, she got one >> and you got the other one. Where'd you put the other one at? >> I'll be real with you. I'm be honest. >> Okay. Officers continue searches, uncovering additional stolen items. The suspects give conflicting stories, blaming each other for certain items. >> There's nothing else. >> There's nothing else. I didn't take anything else. >> All right, put your hands behind your back. >> The watch is yours, >> huh? >> The watch is yours? >> Yeah, you'll take your phone. Come to the back. All right, turn this way. All right, spread your feet. >> What's this? Is that like a vape? >> Just going to put this right here. >> So, other than that, nothing. Nothing. I'm not like not like your friend. We're not going to start finding like random stuff everywhere. >> Going to fight you. >> Okay. No. No. Find random stuff. Okay. feel really cute. You >> mind switching with me? >> Okay. Can you step out? >> Yeah. >> All right. Um pockets. >> Yeah. >> The jewelry. >> I just have this one. >> The teens are searched further and officers confirm they were involved in retail theft. They are told they'll be processed at the station. Fingerprints, photographs, and banned from the store. >> Okay. Anything else? >> No, that's it. >> Okay. All right. Put your hands this way or lean up against the sky. >> All right. Show your feet. There's nothing sharp in your um pants in your pockets. All right. >> Wait, can I please speak about the process, please? >> So, you with retail theft um there's the signing complaints. >> So, with that, what we do is you go down to our station, get fingerprint photographs, you get released on a Wednesday, and get a Could I um come back for like my stuff? >> You want to come back for your car? You We're going to get banned from the store. All three women are charged with retail theft and permanently banned from calls. Don't assume you can talk your way out of shoplifting store cameras and police will uncover the truth. What seems like a small theft can still lead to charges, processing, and a permanent store ban. Comment your opinion about the case in the comment section. Let's find out the next incident. >> It's going to be suspicious. We black people. >> Why would she leave you? It's your mom. I mean, she went through a field and was going over 100 mph through red light. >> I would never left my kid like that. >> On January 22nd, 2025 in Washington, Illinois police responded to reports of multiple women shoplifting at Walmart. Officers learned that all suspects are part of the same family. >> All the gray Kia. All right. Okay. >> No, no, that's it right there. >> Okay, I see it. Okay, the Edward King 74393. It's heading north in the field. They said there's still one in the store. Washington 28 terminated. They went through the red light at college 24 speed over 100. It's pretty crazy. >> One young woman is caught hiding inside the store after her companions flee. She nervously denies involvement, claiming she was left behind and only came to use the phone. >> Never had anyone go through the field and ditch me like that before. All right, let's go see what we got going on here. >> Where's the girl at? >> Okay. >> You're about to go. Shut. Shh. What? You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can will be used against you in court of law. Okay. >> You have the right. You move again, I'm going to put you on the ground. Do you understand your right? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Can I Can I >> Hello. So, so, so why am I here today? Um, I don't have nothing to do to do with that. I'm tell I'm telling you I don't have nothing to do with that. You looking for some people, but I literally was with some people, but I don't have nothing to do with that. Somebody just gave me Somebody just gave me $10. That's what's in my hand. That's what I'm trying to tell you. >> Can you put it in my pocket? >> Okay. So, you don't have anything to do with what? What are you talking about? You came with some people. Where did they go? >> I don't know where they went, but I They left me. Like, I came in here to use the phone, and that's my $10. Like you can clearly ask them. I don't know where they >> You have an ID or anything on you? >> My ID is not with me, but I'm 22 years old. I don't have no reason to lie to you or nothing. Well, >> it will go a lot better for you if you don't lie to me. >> I'm not lying. I'm not lying to you. I'm literally telling you the truth. Somebody gave me $10. Like literally, I came in here and asked him cuz I'm not from out here. You feel what I'm saying? I came out here with some people. Literally, I don't have I'm from Poria. >> They don't have Walmart and Menards and Poria. Why' you choose these ones? I was with some people. They I wasn't driving. You feel what I'm saying? I'm not gonna lie to you because I'm telling you the truth. You feel what I'm saying? If anything, they need to they need to come, too. Like, I'm not going to go to jail for nobody. You feel >> Let's back up a little bit. You were with some people. >> Yes. They left me. >> Who were you with? >> I was with my c I was with my cousin. >> Who's that? >> One of them name is um Kamaya. The other one named Bri. Feel what I'm saying? And I'm not going to be You feel me? I'm not going to go to jail for no reason. When did you guys come over to Walmart for? >> They wanted to come to Walmart. I didn't know what they like. I'm not going to lie to you. I didn't know what they was doing. You feel what I'm saying? They didn't tell me what they >> My bad. They didn't tell me. No, cuz I'm kind of nervous. You feel me? They didn't tell me what they was doing. >> You feel me? I literally was scared. So, I asked them. >> It's all on video. Then I'm going to look at that. Okay. >> Let me ask you this question. >> She confesses she was homeless and wanted to steal clothes, but insists she took nothing. Officers confirmed that her companions fled in a car that sped through a field at over 100. >> You were going to take stuff, but you did, right? Is that what you're saying? So, you were going to take stuff. You're going to steal stuff, but you didn't. >> Yeah. Like, they literally, you feel what I'm saying? They literally like, "Come on." And I'm literally telling them, like, I'm literally looking for them and they gone. You feel what I'm saying? Like, I ain't going to lie to you. I'm really scared because there's nothing to be scared of. >> You're not going to get hurt. We're not going to hurt you. We're just trying to figure out what's going on. Okay. I know that. But it's just like, yeah, I might have ran from the lady because I really, you feel me? I was afraid I was to come out here. You feel what I'm saying? >> Okay. But you did say you were coming out here to steal, but you just didn't take anything. You attempted to steal, but you just didn't take anything. Like, >> did you get scared? Did she see you and scare you or what happened? >> I don't like sir, I'm really going to be honest with you. >> You know, she's kind of scared. She kind of scared me. >> She scared you. So, decided you weren't going to take the stuff. What all were you coming to take? I mean, I was gonna get me some because like I said, I really hopping from house to house. You feel what I'm saying? I ain't gonna lie to you. >> You're trying to get what? Clothes or food? >> Like, I was trying to get some clothes. >> Police find items and a credit card belonging to another suspect in her bag, which she claims is not hers. Officers prepare to transport her to verify identity and check for warrants >> because I don't have no way. Like, they literally love me. >> What's that? >> That's not mine. They in your bag. >> They got that from another store though. The girl the card who card is a mom. That's hers. >> But where was this stolen from? >> She got that from Walmart and um Peoria University. >> Kamaya Gibbons. Why do you have Kamaya's stuff in your bag? >> Because that bag is not mine. That bag is Kamaya. If you understand what I'm saying. That bag's not mine. Can my money and stuff go in my pocket? My money and my chest. Cuz that bag's not that bad's not mine. >> We'll make sure everything gets >> All right, let's walk out here to the car. >> All right. Because 20 key sound two people for me, please. >> Why you buckling me up? >> Cuz we're going over to Walmart. You got to wear your seat belt. >> But these Can you loosen these? Cuz >> loosen them. Loosen them. How? Like they a little bit too tight. >> Turn and let me feel them here. >> I can get a whole finger in both of them. If anything, they should probably be a little bit tighter. I won't I won't put you. >> Another woman claiming to be 19 years old argues she paid using a financial app called Affirm, but her phone died mid-transaction. She insists the issue was a misunderstanding, not theft, and accuses the officer of racial profiling. >> That's what I'm saying. Oh [ __ ] man. Mad. This is faster. There it is. I told you my >> stop for one second. >> Wait, try let us talk and we No, I'll talk in a minute. You get a chance in a minute. I I'm ask you several times and I'm going ask you to be quiet. >> It's suspicious. >> I told you I understood that we black it's going to be suspicious. We black people. >> Let me know I can finish because right now we're not getting anywhere. >> It's suspicious when I have two people as cold as it is running and walking fast and going across the parking. When I see somebody drop a bag, it's suspicious. Okay. So, >> yeah, because Ryan left us like, >> "You let me finish. Are you going to let me finish?" So, I stop. If everything checks out, we're good, right? You say you didn't steal. You say you didn't do anything, you guys didn't do it. We got cameras. We'll check it. If they got it wrong, guess what? You get to go. But if that's not the case, then we're doing something else. You're not helping yourself by sitting there yelling and talking to somebody that has nothing to do with your actions. If you carry it out, >> she's shaking her head in. What she shaking her head for? with a firm. I know y'all probably don't. Y'all probably don't use it cuz y'all probably got >> Don't use what a firm like you know when you pay for your item. A firm they pay for your whole card then you cut it off over time on the app. That's what I did and I scanned my phone thing. My phone went dead after I skin it. So I pushed my card up thinking that it went through. I didn't turn around to check for no receipt. I don't need no receipt when I spend my money. So I just let it go through and I walked out. When he was like, "Where your receipt at?" I don't got no receipt at. He said, "Give me the card." I gave him the card. But you will have a receipt on your phone, correct? >> Yes, but my my phone is dead. Like, it's not trying to know. My phone went dead as soon as I did the phone thing. >> You got ID on you? >> No, I don't I don't got no idea. >> How old are you? >> I'm 19. >> How old are you, man? >> Forgive me if I'm asking a silly question, but we're talking like biological mom, right? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> He talking about we [laughter] we don't look alike to you or something. >> You don't we talking about biological mom or something? >> Cuz I don't like that. Bro, cuz cuz I'm in here trying to explain to y'all that if if it ain't go through, I understand that. But I paid with my affirm and my phone went down right after that. When he asked me did I have a receipt at the door, I said I don't have a receipt. He said get a card up. I gave it to him. No hesitation. If I was stealing, I would have overdid my stuff. Defending myself would have did the most. I gave him the card because I paid with my affirm. I seen the barcode thing. If you replay the camera, you see me. Look, look at the camera. That's me. What you see? [ __ ] my act. You were the register and then you walked away. >> No, I was paying my firm. You see my phone now, G. Stop playing with me, folk ass. Ain't no acting like >> I paid with my firm account and my went dead and I did not know it didn't go through until you stop me. That's how he's racist ass. Yeah, he racist as hell. He races. You see me, look, you see me clicking on something. He racist. >> He might just be jaded. >> Talking about some jaded meaning of a lot of negative stuff and I understand that. But don't take that out of me cuz I didn't steal nothing. I show I told you my bag. My bag is damn fast. >> No. >> With the with the firm thing. This is an app, right? >> I could go I could go show you on a bar. I could go to step check out with you right now and show you what I did. >> Understood. What happens if you I mean because I don't know >> like it's a app like you pay like you pay for like a car. The app pays for your car as soon as you buy it. But you have to pay them back a certain amount every two weeks or even every couple days over the time >> just like a credit card. But it's >> Yeah, that's how it work. That's how it work. >> Officers discover that the driver of the getaway car, the suspect's mother, abandoned her daughters and fled through a field at high speed running red lights. The daughters express shock and sadness, saying their mother had never left them before. >> Get them for you and we drop them off to your vehicle. That's how that works. All right, go ahead and step out for me, please. Please do not run. I ran the Chicago Marathon. I will catch you. >> I'm not gonna run. I'm not like >> Hey. All right. It's a different thing. It's all the same thing. >> So So what what do we go through? Like we situation misunderstand. >> Hold on. I'll talk to you in a second. Hold on. If you tell me the truth, we'll we'll work with you. If you don't, you will you will you will not like it. Okay? So, let me just say something here to you now. You have the right to remain silent. So, I just chased that gray car through a field down all the way almost to Poria. So, >> why don't you step out there with him and you step over here with me while he talks to her. >> That'll work. And then I'll come talk to you, too. >> Thank you, >> so I just asking you to be cooperative. Okay? If you cooperate and all you did was steal some stuff, I'll give you a ticket in a court date and you'll walk out of here. If you lie to me, I promise you I'm going to make a difference. >> We just explained it here that it was a misunderstanding in Poria. I can play with a phone on my phone. I can scan a barcode. My phone is dead right now. You see in the camera, I pull my phone out and scan the barcode. My barcode went through, but the phone went dead. So, I didn't know it did not go through until the door. How did you get here? >> My mom. The the same person you text. That's my mom. >> So, she brought you all here today. So, >> and she ditched you all to here? >> Yes. >> That is terrible. Like we stuck in Washington. I stand for I have a whole baby. I'm not going to steal nothing. I came in here. I scared. >> So who who else was with you? It's it's you, her, the girl I had here and your mom. That's it. No one else. >> The daughters confess they came to steal clothes and other items. Police issue retail theft citations and ban them from all Walmart stores. The officer warns that their mother will face additional charges for fleeing. >> Stop looking for my mom. He like, "Yo, why I left you?" Haha. is haha that I'm like what you mean? >> So what it comes down to though is you have these items. You did not pay for them. Okay? I'm going to write you a ticket. You're going to have a court date to go to. Your mom is in a world of she ran from me. I will find her. There's no question. Okay? So she can come turn herself in and I'll be cool with her or she can hide and I'll come pull her out of bed if I have to. Right? So you can tell her that at a later date. Are these are these other two ladies going to tell me the same thing that you're telling me? >> Yes. >> Okay. I hope so cuz I mean I don't like it when people lie to me. Nobody's lost to you. I promise. >> All right. >> Red red red pants. Come in here, please. >> Thank you. >> All right. Rihanna, her name last name is Buntley. Is she a sister, a friend, a cousin? What is she? >> She's my friend. >> Friend. How about um >> Dunigan? The other girl? You don't know her? >> Huh? >> Done. >> Ronisha. >> I don't know her. >> Okay. So, the driver of the car, you know her? >> No. >> I mean, it's Kamaya's mom, right? >> So, did you realize you guys didn't pay for everything or what? What happened? >> No. Like she said she was she was ringing this up and she was paying on the little app walking outside. She her phone went dead. I don't know what happened. I ain't going to lie. And then I was going to get my money in my car so I can pay for that stuff. I ain't going to lie. I just walked out with it. >> So you So you came into Walmart without any money to buy something. >> No, my my money was in my car. Like the car that I came in is right in the car. So I'm thinking I bring it in, but I didn't bring it in. So I checked my my wallet or whatever. Money went in. >> Okay. And then you walked out without the items. That's >> No, I was going to get it. It's a he stopped us and stuff. Did you have items with you when they did? I mean, you had the items with you, right? Okay. So, what I mean, you're being cooperative. I'm going to give you like I told her, I'll give you a court date when you show up at court. You don't show up to court, they'll give you more. It's in the courthouse is in Pico. It's in Tesla County. >> Since I'm not going to take you to jail, let me take a picture. One, two, three. Thank you. >> Why you taking Why you being petty? >> Oh, you got to look at the camera. One, two. There we go. Thank you. So, what what she has told me is that they all came here together. Yeah, the dream come here to steal things. She personally stole a few clothes. Is that right? >> Yeah, because I needed clothes, >> which is all that merchandise is still. >> See, I did say that. Okay, I told her. >> I apparently I apologize. >> That's why I said you misunders you and he misunderstood me because I said that. >> What's the uh what's the name of the driver again? Last name Gibbons, but what was her first name? Huh? >> The driver of the car. Kamaya's mom. >> Malika. >> Malikica. >> She came in too. >> Everybody came in. Okay. Okay. >> Interrupt your conversation of my mom. Me, Marishia came through this door. Jazz and my other sister came through that door. That's why I wanted to tell you. >> Okay. I see that in the video. But thank you for telling me. But why would she leave you? >> I don't know. I >> It's your mom, right? >> That's what I said. I don't know why she left us >> and she she drove. I mean, she went through a field. I mean, it it was crazy and was doing over 100 mph through red lights. So, I don't I don't know. I would never left my kid like that, but I don't know if you guys got something. >> That's what me and Jasper said. I'm like, "Bro, my mom ain't never leave me." That's why we was running through the park cuz I'm telling Jess, I'm like, "I don't see her car nowhere. I just go there and try to see that she move on." Like, she ain't never just leave us here. >> We always stay all the way in. >> How you just going to leave your kids? >> All right. So, I'm going to write you a ticket. You'll have a court date you have to go to, okay? And that'll be that. They don't want you back at Walmart. They're going to give you paperwork saying you are banned from mobile. Okay? Just so you know. And that's every Walmart, not just this one. >> Okay. I'll drive her the car. I'm going to find her and she'll have a little bit more charge than you. I know you know who she is. >> You said you go tomorrow. >> If I have to come find her at 3:00 in the morning, pull her out. >> But she can come to the walk in the police department. Get some tickets. >> Yeah. If she comes and watch the police department, I will be cool with her. I promise you that. If I Oh, yeah. I will. >> She made you just You won't be mad. >> You said you was all through the field. >> Yeah. Well, I didn't drive through the field. She did. I'm not I'm not going to wreck my car. I'm not going to hurt my car. >> If she comes, I'll give her some tickets and she'll be good, too. But she if I have to come find her, it's not going to be fun. >> We good. >> I'm all good. You're all free to go. Hope your day gets better. >> The mother, Malikica Higgins, later turns herself in and is charged with fleeing from an officer and traffic violations. Karia Gibbons charged with retail theft and obstructing justice in trying to avoid minor financial loss through theft. He had a different another receipt, too, that had printed. I guess it printed out two different times. >> Can I see your receipt? >> Officers reviewed Robin's receipts and explained that since she had already passed all points of sale, it appeared she was trying to leave without paying, though she claimed she was just headed to the bathroom. Surveillance footage suggested otherwise. other I mean hotel. >> I know that was I was going to come over. >> You go what you customer service? >> Why would you go to customer service? That means >> because I need something. >> You need to return something. >> This doesn't make any sense. Usually when you do returns, you do it in your first year. >> No, not if I have to go pick out what I wanted. >> That's usually how it works. >> What are you returning? >> That's how I always did it. >> What's your What are you returning? Well, I already had grabbed it with the um the filter. >> So, you already returned it? >> Well, I gave it to them to hold on to. >> So, if I go ask them, they're going to confirm that. >> I don't know. It's a different lady now. >> Pretty convenient. >> Robin asked if she could take a few things home to her kids, but officers told her to wait while they ran her information. That's when they spotted a backpack in her cart stuffed with merchandise. Don't Don't pick your stuff out of the cart. Right. >> Just wait. I told you you're not going anywhere until we confirm your information. So, you might as well just put it down. >> Is this your backpack in the cart? Who says it? >> Target back. >> Did you pay for it? >> You did? No, you didn't pay for it. So, what were you going to do with all of that stuff? >> Put it down. >> Yeah, cuz why would you put it inside the backpack? >> Because it was too full. >> People usually don't shop like that. >> I didn't have room in my car. If you saw me, >> not a normal way of shopping. >> If you saw before, I didn't have room in my cart. >> There's there's plenty of room. >> Yeah. >> You understand that we shop, too. We know how to fill a cart. We know how to do this. So the things that you're telling us, we know how to return items. >> None of that makes sense for a reasonable person. >> I guess I I guess so because loading a backpack up of stuff that you're going to walk out with. You saw us looking at you over here as Vloger was talking to us. So you decided to walk this way because maybe you can just get by us. Like maybe we wouldn't notice. >> Maybe by chance we weren't talking about a stupid kid could do that. >> Of course you should. Robin insisted she was on her way to customer service when the cops stopped her quickly spinning a string of fresh excuses about why she went the way she did. But as expected, her story fell apart fast, coming across as flimsy and unbelievable. >> You weren't going to use EBT with a Starbucks drink or you just So, what were you going to do with that stuff? >> Put it here. Ask them to hold on to it for me. When is your sister supposed to get her? I don't know. >> The officers weren't buying Robin's excuses for a second. Between the surveillance footage and her suspicious behavior, it was obvious she had no intention of paying for the backpack or the items stuffed inside it. >> Put your stuff down. >> Why? Put your Put your drink in there. >> Why? >> Take this off. >> Why? What are you doing? >> I'm nervous. You for shopping with me. >> I'm not shopping. >> Do not resist. Stop this. >> Do you want an extra charge of resisting? Then you can continue. >> Do not resist. >> Do not resist. >> That's an extra charge. There's four of us here. Sec up just a little bit. >> Why? I wasn't shopping. >> Why are you trying to keep us from your purse? >> Come on. Stop. Stop. Stop. You're getting cuffs. >> Stop it. Hey. >> Huh? >> Yeah. It's on It's on the >> Stop, man. >> Oh, you guys are >> We're not here to hurt you. >> Let me go. I wasn't shoplifting. I didn't walk out of the store with it. >> Despite her continued resistance, the officers quickly gained control of the situation. With Robin restrained and seated upright, they proceeded to take her into custody without further incident. >> Okay. Well, you can you can talk about that in court. Okay. >> Time to take these cuffs off. >> Ow. Good. Ready? One. You're going to get up on three. Okay. Can you take your purse? Let's take it to the front of the unit. Check for anything. You got anything that's going to focus stab us? Yeah. >> With the woman secured, officers spoke to a store employee who confirmed what he had witnessed. He added that this wasn't Robin's first time being caught shoplifting at the store. >> She get to >> She made it all the way. >> You guys were walking up right here. >> Uhhuh. >> I'm surprised you guys didn't see him. She was right here already out the door. So that's this is where I stopped here. I was like, "Let me see your seat. Let me see your receipt." And then you guys came around the corner and she's like, "No, I paid for it." And I was like, "There's coffee right there. I'm not going to play this game with you." So, >> and then that's when did she walk like around this way? >> Well, she went right back. She's like, "Let me show you. Let me show you. I didn't print out a receipt. I paid for it all." I was like, "No, you didn't. Let's go get a receipt then real quick so we can make sure went back." And that's why she's like, "Don't do this. Don't do this." Then she's a repeat offender. I'm a manager with Robertson's right here. at both of them I've been at and I've stopped her before doing the same damn thing. She'll pay with her food stamps for the food items and push out $500 in other items. So, repeat offender. I already knew she wasn't recognized as soon as I walked out here. So, she could insist on her innocence, but with both video evidence and witness statements against her, the outcome was clear. Robin was officially charged with shoplifting and resisting arrest. Stealing and making flimsy excuses only adds to the trouble. Once evidence stacks up, denial won't erase the charges. What an unyielding shoplifter. The next shoplifter will react much more violently. So keep an eye out. Exactly. You walked past all the cash registers. >> Out with the merchandise. >> I walked around the store. >> So I didn't technically walk past anything. If y'all did not pass Did you not walk past the registers? >> Just now? Yes. >> Without pay? >> Yes. Just now? Yes. >> So that's a retail? >> How? And I don't have anything. >> Police stop a woman outside Target. She swears she didn't steal yet. Admits she walked out without paying. Officers remind her if you pass the registers and exit with merchandise, that's retail theft. >> Give us your ID now. Or we could wait. Listen to me. Or we could add an obstructing charge to your retail theft charge. >> No, I didn't touch buy anything. >> I don't understand. Like >> exactly. You didn't buy anything. You walked out with it. Yes, you did. You left the store without paying. You already admitted to it. >> So, let's make Now, let's make this Let's make this Exactly. It's on camera. So, let's make this simple. Let's Let's get your ID so we can get you identified so you don't you don't get another charge. That way, you're just getting charged for retail theft. >> Let us get your ID. >> So, I'm going to do how long? >> You're going to be fine. Listen, >> we might have got off the wrong foot. I'm trying to explain to you how this works. So, for retail theft, you walked. She argues she would have paid if caught. Officers explain intent doesn't matter under Illinois law. Leaving without paying is theft. >> Pass all the last points of purchase. >> Correct. >> I didn't even come to the front of the store. >> Exactly. You walked past all the cash registers. >> Out with the merchandise. >> I walked around the store. So I didn't technically walk past anything. If y'all did you not pass Did you not walk past the registers >> just now? Yes. >> Without paying? >> Yes. Just now? Yes. >> So that's a retail thought. How? And I don't have anything. >> You got Google on your phone. Type in ILCS retail. >> What is it going to say? Attempt to steal. >> No, you did. You did not plan on paying for the items. Otherwise, >> you did. Then why didn't you go to the registration? >> If I was to get caught, I was going to pay. Yes. >> So, if you were getting caught, you were going to pay. You want to just talk to her and get the information? >> Just explain that what you told to me like I can see and stuff. >> Oh yeah. >> Uh so we're I was picked her up on the floor. I was walking on the floor. I mix on blue side which is like the GM side. Uh we have >> So you were personally walking the store? >> Yeah. I was personally walking the floor. Got it. Um and then she came up to blue selfch checkckout. She went out the went in the exit which is closed. It's not open. She grabbed a handful of the Target plastic bags, put it into the cart, uh went into the candle aisle, was concealing half of it, got spooked, went over to our furniture, went into that aisle, looked up, done checked, and then continued concealing into the bag. Um, and then she made a loop back around grocery side, or GM side, which was right here, and then made the exit. And >> Okay. >> Okay. Um, obviously we'll get her band and everything, too.
