child. >> Hey, stop. Stop. Get back. >> Get back. >> I'm not doing this. >> You're being because I have a fibro and it hurts. Don't do it. Don't >> get in front of me. >> No, that hurts. >> At first, nothing seemed out of place. But as officers spent more time on scene, they began noticing details others had overlooked. The way the children acted, the tension in the room, the small reactions that didn't add up. I >> think I would know if I have to go pick her up or something. >> Well, the right to stop answering anytime until you speak with a lawyer. I understand. >> This is when hero cops see the signs no one else noticed. Here is law zone where features real police body cam footage documenting how officers handle tense and unpredictable situations as they happen. The first incident is that police rescue teen from toxic mother and truly twisted home life. >> She started paying me over my hair. All she sees is just a grown woman. I'm not a grown woman. I'm still a kid. She hadn't even looked at me with love anymore. >> She don't. On December 22nd, 2024 officers made contact with a 16-year-old female who reported being left alone after a dispute with her mother and walking from where she was dropped off to a nearby facility. >> 38. I have a house clean. >> What's going on? Oh, she just she said that she Sorry, I was she just said about nasty things, but basically just said that she wanted you guys to steal it. She didn't want to be part of she said, "Yo, you can just steal just travel and stuff like that. So, I don't know what to do." >> Did she bring you over here? >> She dropped your block away. So, I won't bring you. Was it her intention to bring you here? Where did she drop you off? >> At the fire station. >> By the fire station. >> She said, "Well, I want you here." She drove off. >> Where's your father at? >> He's passed away. Oh, I believe my um uncle brother. >> Where are they at? >> They're somewhere on like a California. My brother. >> Okay. >> So, you don't have any close immediate family anywhere nearby? So, what was the argument today? >> This time look like my my sister and her joking yard. >> She describes a verbal argument at home that escalated reports physical contact involving hair pulling and shows officers a bruise while denying striking her mother. >> And she just kind of like escalated and she started calling me traffic and just all things. So, I got A3 and I tipped on her to stop and then I said some mean things and she started paying me for my hair and pushing me and she threw me against 21. >> Do you have any like >> I didn't get her. >> Do you have any cuts or anything on you? >> I have she right here. >> Do you think you could take your jacket off for a second so I can see the bruises? >> Not that bad. But I have meds. She gave me the meds because they might tell you to most of it just was just hair loss that I don't think >> you want EMS to come right here and check you out. You said your eyes is >> this is all the medication that you take. What's your mom's name? Officers confirm medical needs, review medications, provide water, and reassure her while arranging assistance from emergency services and child welfare authorities. >> Diana, do you know anybody's phone number? >> Do you know your mom's? >> Yeah. >> What's your mom's number? >> Sir, she's probably my answer, sir. >> Gotcha. What's her phone number? >> When was the last time you took any of your medication? They excited this morning at the >> the hydroxine. >> That was the night time took the gas. >> Okay. How old is your mom? Do you know? >> 50. I'm so sorry. >> It's okay. We're going to figure this out together. Okay. >> Okay. I just wanted to me instead of a grown woman. I'm not a grown woman. I was still a kid. I just wanted >> I just wanted her to hold me. And when she did, she didn't want me. She doesn't want me to be her child anymore. Said she'll never look back. She has a the family hates her. She just doesn't want me. And I'm able and doesn't want me anymore. >> I'm so sorry. >> It's okay. This has happened to four of us that have gotten bad. I don't want her again. No, just love me and treat me like her daughter. Ever since I took a teenager, she hadn't even looked at me with love anymore. [laughter] >> Officers explained plans to transport the youth to a safe location with food and shelter while awaiting a social worker noting she does not want to return home. >> Actually bored. So I thought it was a mistake. >> Do you want a water? >> Yes, please. >> The fire department is going to come. They should be here in just a few minutes. If they get here before I come back, just tell them that I'll be right back. Okay. >> Do you want to go to the hospital or anything? >> No, I'm not hurt. I'm just going to shake you. >> Okay, sure. Here to call DC up. >> No, not yet. I was just grabbing her water. I'll call DC up. We're going to try get a social worker to come. We're first. I know these guys have talked to you. We're going to get you to the beach and get you there, get a bed, get some food, hang out with warm, and then get a DCF agent over there and assist you with this. I know you don't. >> The youth reports a similar prior incident, states she does not feel safe returning and expresses a desire for stability rather than reunification at that time. I'm going to go back to your mom. You know, with this kind of circumstance, I am going to have to talk to him and figure out exactly what happened cuz I mean, it's not good for somebody to drop a kid off the side of the road. >> As long as we right now, >> has something like this ever happened before? >> They had a case on DC. She was physical again and she took me to that medical hospital and she told me talking to her that it was occupation that she lost her feelings and stuff and so I told her and the doctor case and all this stuff and they try to put in lots of beds and that was it was physical sheer when I was there. She's a boxer so you got to check her heavy hand. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Just it's only happened one last time. This the second time it's happened, but this much worse. The first time I got saw, but this time I don't think I'll see her again. I don't want to. >> The mother arrives, confirms she dropped the youth off after an argument and provides her account, stating ongoing behavioral and disciplinary conflicts. >> Are you ready to go to the hospital? >> Child, I brought her medication. We've been going through this for years now. >> Hi there. >> Hey, I'm officer Broom with the Beach Police. I'm kind of the case agent for this. Um, do you mind if we have a conversation? >> Of course, I don't mind. I came to make sure she came here. I wanted to make sure she wasn't in the street. She don't want to be with me. That's fine. She goes to uh the behavioral center in Panama City. I brought her medication. >> Here, you want to do you want to walk into the front lobby real quick? That way we can get out this cold and you and I can talk. And first, you're Diane, right? >> Diana. Okay. >> Obviously, we know why you're here. I've kind of gotten a brief story from your daughter about what possibly could go on. Now, I just want to get your side of the story because I know there's always two sides to every story and there's a truth somewhere in between. So, if you don't mind, just tell me what what's going on tonight. >> Well, the mother explains her parenting approach denies ongoing physical harm and describes the drop off as a disciplinary decision after repeated disagreements. >> It's not just tonight. This is on both. My daughter, depression, anxiety, psychosis. Uh, for the last 2 years, we've been going through treatment and things like that. She gets a little nasty sometime. You know what I'm saying? Want to [ __ ] up a little bit. I'm her parent. I'm a single mother. Okay. She just got kicked out of school, out of online school and everything like that. She's very selfish sometime. I love her. That's my daughter. I'm a single mom. I raise my mother. This is my other daughter, Kayla. We don't try to get her in in between things, but of course, we're in the same household. I will not have my child disrespected. I've done seen parents get beat up by the children, grandparents. My child's not going to live. You understand? I'm not going to have that. Yes, I'm very upset right now. To you, it may seem aggressive, but no, I'm a parent and I've had enough. I got another child to take care of >> what happened tonight specifically. >> You're asking what do you want me to tell you? Because you want to go along with what she told you. Whatever she told me, I really figured out and what led you to drop me. >> She wanted to come. She got upset because I told her she was selfish. You know, things set her off. apartment. It gets ugly. >> Between the two and 300 buildings to do this, I work hard. We're in transition. We're waiting for a new home. And the last thing I need is my child bucking up at me like she wants to feel. You're not going to put your hands on me, right? >> The point is now all of a sudden this is her go to where I want to go to the police. I'm going to do this. I'm going to do that. Okay. You're threatening me like I'm supposed to be afraid. I'm not afraid of you. I'm not afraid of what you're going to do because I know my rights. I know what I'm supposed to do. And as a parent, I take care of my child, my children, should I say. But if you think you're wrong, I'm a this and that. Don't even date anybody, which is not even here or there. Okay? I take care of my kids. I sacrifice everything for my children. I'm not here beating up on my kids. I'm not smacking up on my kids. I don't lose my children. So, I will not be laid back. >> Nobody said that. You got >> Well, I'm sure she said whatever she said, but I will not have her hands with me. You understand? She said that y'all got into an argument sometime tonight. Can you kind of deep dive into that? When >> an argument start really, what did I say to her to set her off? It was something very minute. Like I said, with her different mood swings and with the medication, I brought it with me so you guys can have it for her. And I bought her glasses cuz she can't see. But she said, "Well, you I want nothing from you. You're this and that." And it said, "You know something? I don't deserve that." >> So she said that to you. >> Of course she Yes, you did. I was not just going to make this up. Okay. And I'm not going to tolerate that. I do too much. I said, "Listen, I take care of you. You don't do an issue." I'm like, "You have to be grateful for something, you know, as a parent. It may seem like new to you, but it's not my new to me when I bust my everyday for my kids." One thing I do is I try to fight back. I don't try to pacify. But soon as she does get her way, this is our go-to. every time she doesn't get away with something or she don't like something I said or incorrection parental uh should I say uh verbiage or just something to help her she takes off she shuts down she wants >> officers clarify timelines confirm the youth's age and explain concerns about leaving a minor unattended without ensuring care or supervision >> [ __ ] up and this and that and get an attitude I'm like listen I'm trying to help first we're women so I'm a woman I'm trying to teach you how to a woman to be self-sufficient. I'm not going to go back and forth like this. I got too much going on. I work too many jobs. I manage home 38. I'm I have a house cleaning company. Also a chef. I do a lot to take care of my kids. The last thing I I want to have is my 16-year-old thinking she was going to treat me and and act any kind of way as far as disrespect. No, I'm not going to do I don't disrespect you. You're not going to disrespect you. Okay? >> I'm not the kind of parent that hit. I want to talk about cuz hitting is not going to solve the problem. But if you're going to jump in my face, you will get hit back. understand I'm not with that. And then she shows the sweet side of her. You don't know her. You just married her. So what you see is a a victim, a child. You know what I'm saying? Every single day. Have been in trouble with the law as far as my children, anything like that. But we've been here before. They didn't call social services that social workers said, "Uh, you're just a good parent. I'm a stern parent. I'm a direct parent." You understand? But I communicate my children. But if you going to put your hands up to me, you going to get it. Simple as that. Did she do any of that tonight? >> Of course she did. >> Okay. >> What happened from there? >> Well, from there I was like, you know, something she wanted to I hadn't told myself. I want to leave. I'm here. Let me take you to where you want to go. I said, you want to go back to the center? The center, which you saw on 15th, uh, was that the behavioral center on 19th? But that's not the go to. Let's talk about this. That's not where you go because you're upset with me and because you're not having your way. This is tantrums and I can't deal with it. So tonight, she said, "Well, I want to go to the police." Dropped her right off. I said, "You go inside." And I was like, you know, she don't have her medicine. She don't have her glasses. That's the way she left. And you said, you know, respected me. I don't do nothing for you. I don't take care of you. You believe in what you have. That's how I >> How come you didn't stay around? >> Why should I? This is the lesson she wanted to do. And she's done this to me so many times. I've always said no. >> Well, there was obviously some sort of issue that could have used law enforcement's assistant with tonight. An argument. >> She's 16 years old. She thinks she wants to do what she want to do. Like the sixth, seventh time, she said, "I want to go to the police station." Okay. this time it was enough for me. So if I'm wrong with that, I'm sorry. That's just the way I feel about it because you have no idea the experience of what I've been through with this child. She's not an child. She's not a neglected child. I'm a very good mom. And if you want to talk to my child, you want to talk to my son who's 34 years old and maybe 12 years. I'm a very good mom, but I will not tolerate disrespect. And I know she has issues, but that's also an excuse. That's our goal. I said, we all have things we don't want to deal with. all have things we don't want to do every day, but we have to get up and do. >> So, if anything, I motivate an encouragement not as a tyrant cuz I'm not that. I'm just accept >> you want to touch whatever you need. I hope you >> I've never said that you did. >> No, I didn't say but you know, I just want to relax and say, "Okay, did she actually go there?" I want to make sure that's fine. I have nothing to hide. I didn't do anything wrong. Like I said, I mean, I'm not saying that you did anything wrong or anything. I just It's not >> Officers separate the mother from the youth, place the mother under arrest, and inform her that she is being charged based on leaving the minor unattended. >> Me just a moment. I'm going to go step outside and talk to my corporal real quick if you don't mind. Just hanging out here, please. >> Ma'am, can you come out here with me real quick, please? I just wanted to talk to you away from your daughter. Okay. So, if you will, just put your phone down. >> Are you arresting me? >> Yes, ma'am. Why? >> Drop everything. >> No, hold on. Why are you under arrest? >> For what? >> You are under arrest. >> Can you give my phone to my my daughter? >> You're arresting me for what? >> For child neglect. >> Oh my god. Are you serious? >> How do you take this off? >> For child negle. Can you do my phone to >> officers coordinate with child welfare services, discuss temporary placement options, and confirm the youth's preference regarding placement. my daughter so she can call my um my lawyer for child neglect because she I dropped her here and came back. >> Plus your answer brought her back. >> Oh wow. So what about my daughter here? >> So we have >> Wow. Child contact with DCF. >> Wow. >> And DCF's going to be on the way >> because I dropped my daughter off and came back. I already knew you was going to do this. >> What I thought was kind of odd is when I was talking to you, you said that you dropped her off, went back home. You even mentioned that you smoked at Black and Mild before returning. I was in my car. >> I I don't really care to explain it to you. Okay. >> A cigar. A black and mo with nothing in it. A cigar. Is it >> You may not understand the circumstances. I don't. >> This the fact of the matter. Okay. I'm going to submit a charging document. The judge is going to read it in the morning and they'll determine if there's probable cause or not and you can have first appearance. Okay. >> Okay. Because of a black and you're telling me you arrested me? >> No. Not just a black and white >> because I dropped my daughter off from around the corner and came back less than 30 minutes. >> I'm arresting you for the fact that you came here. You left your daughter, your 16-year-old daughter. >> I left her at the door. >> That that's incapable of caring for herself. >> It was a lesson. She wanted to do this. It was a lesson not to hurt her. That's why I came back. If I wanted to hurt her, why would I come back? >> Come on, guys. This is I got a job here. This is not going to happen. This is not how it is. >> Who was your friend's name that you said? >> Not my friends. My family, Luke Manning. >> Who is he to you? >> He's my family. Whether he's blood or not, he's my family. Long time. I trust him and he has permission to take my kids. >> Okay. What I'm trying to determine, is he actually like a brother or sister? >> No, he's not blood. I just said that. >> Okay. But he's a friend that's like family >> family friend. Yes. My best friend, my business partner. >> And you're okay with both of them going to Luke? >> Yes, I am. >> Okay. Your mother said that. Do you know who Luke is? A family friend. Are you okay with going with Luke? instead of going to Luke VCF and you don't want to go with Luke, you want to go to DCF. Okay. >> The mother was arrested and charged with child neglect and cruelty as stated by officers at the scene. Officers applied the charges based on their determination that the mother left her 16-year-old daughter unattended without ensuring appropriate care or supervision prompting involvement from child welfare services. Remember, leaving a minor unattended during a conflict can result in immediate law enforcement and child welfare involvement. Officers prioritize safety supervision and temporary placement when a guardian child dispute escalates. This is the reaction of netzens to this situation. That conversation shows how complicated family situations can get. Glad officers focused on making sure she had a safe place to stay. You can see how quickly things escalated on both sides. Think this situation was already intense. [music] The body cam catches a splitsecond decision that changes everything. Comment if you saw it coming. The next incident is when 13-year-old runs to neighbors visibly harmed and reveals mom's discipline. >> Said mom slapped her in. She gets disrespectful with me. She calls me a [ __ ] >> With these kids nowadays, they're so equipped to call the law enforcement the minute that, you know, things don't go their way. Oh my god, I didn't do that. That >> on May 20th, 2025, officers received information that a 13-year-old fled to a neighbor's residence following a physical altercation with her mother during an argument at home. I think I would know if I have to go pick her up or something. >> Well, hey, buddy. >> Where's my granddaughter? Is she here or there? >> She's She's next door. >> Come here. Look. Teresa, grandma. >> The grandmother. >> Okay. >> She didn't feel mom got into it. She's got physical bruises on her on the rib cage. She's got a bump on her head, a little bit of swelling on her face. Mom slapped her and left. So, I have some paperwork over here. >> You want to grab head over there? You can come over here and bring her over to the their house. Come over here. >> I'll go see what she wants to do. >> Hey, grandma's here next door. Do you want to go over there? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Bye. >> Bye. >> Later, boys. I >> officers formally take the youth's statement under oath and document her written account as part of a threat and safety assessment. >> I just got to grab my clipboard real quick. >> Yeah, grab that. Here's grandma here. All right. We can come over there if you want. >> Come over here. >> Whatever makes everybody more comfortable. I mean, they've been kind enough to let her hang out here for a little while. So, >> can you just do me a favor real quick? Can you just raise your right hand and do you swear in a firm that everything you told me was true? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Lydia, is there any Can you fill out this for me? >> What is this? >> So, like, does she control your life and everything you do? Does she get upset when you're maybe a little defiant to what she says to do? Stuff like that. >> Um, what do I do here? >> So, pretty much just what happened, what you told me in your own words. >> I get to read what she wrote. >> Yep. This is just a threat assessment on all these questions and boxes. That's her statement right there. >> Can I put a line through there? >> Yes. You can also do the same on this front sheet also underneath where there's no more writing. So, we got to go talk to mom, get her side of what happened today if it's sufficient for her. >> Officers explained to family members that based on statements and visible evidence, there is probable cause to investigate possible abuse pending the mother's statement. >> Arrest and arrest will be made. >> And what's sufficient for arrest? >> Well, right now we have probable cause for child abuse. >> I'm not the victim. >> No. So, she's she's going to fill this out. You're just going to sign below. So, it's just going to be your name, where you live, and your birthday. All right. And then if you can just fill out the top, this is when if we do decide to make an arrest and she gets out, you guys will be notified through this that she's that she's released from the jail. >> I think I would know if I have to go pick her up or something. >> Well, if she is arrested, she's not going to be allowed to come to the house. >> For how long? >> That's up to the judge. >> You have access to your Ring doorbell camera. >> It It doesn't really record. >> Doesn't record? >> I'm so bad about connecting the internet. >> Okay. Well, from what she said, she ran out of the house. Show her upset. That's what we're looking for. anything crazy that would happen if a pick camera picked up screaming, anything like that? >> No, it's not set up to do any of that. I'm concerned that she's got into an argument with her mother and that y'all are going to go probably arrest her based on whatever she wrote. >> Well, based on physical evidence, we have to and depends on what mom says. >> Okay. >> Obviously, we have to speak to mom. >> I get it. >> Can't just go off of what one person says. Officers make contact with the mother who explains the incident stemmed from a disciplinary conflict that escalated into physical restraint during a confrontation of altercation happened back at the house. >> Yes, that's why I was headed to the house right now to meet you guys. >> I got you. Yeah, we were we were coming to talk to you up there, but I guess >> that's fine. Did you guys want to go somewhere to talk about this or >> Yeah, it was fun. >> Okay. >> What happened? Basically, I picked up my daughter to take her to the dentist and they canceled the appointment. My daughter has been doing a numerous things that we discussed for since this morning that I've asked her and she gets disrespectful with me. She calls me. She charged me and I tried to hold her down and told her and I screamed in her face and told her, "Please don't hit me. Don't talk to me like this." Like, "You cannot be disrespectful towards me." And when I got in the shower, she ran out the door and went to I guess the neighbor's house is my understanding. >> All right. And I have pictures of all the scratches and bruises that she Yeah. that she charged me. Yep. And I pinned her to the floor and I told her, "Please stop. Please stop." And she tried. >> The mother reports prior behavioral issues, states she attempted to control the situation by holding the youth down and acknowledges that physical contact occurred. >> It hit me again. And then I called my mom, let my mom know that she ran out the house. I called my boyfriend, let them know that she ran out the house. I didn't know at that time that she went to the neighbor's house, but I guess the neighbor is the one who contacted my mom and told her that she contacted you guys. So, I just went to my job and I told my job, "Hey, I have an emergency. My daughter and I got into artification and that's why I was leaving my job to go to to the house." >> No, you're okay. It's all good. It's understandable. >> And her father is also aware. Um, they know that she's been an adolescent. So, he called me from California and said that he was on his way to get her DCF or anything like that to call. I think it's Ryan. >> Brian. >> Yeah. Okay. >> Which she was actually flying out next week. >> Oh. Uh Lydia is supposed to fly to him. >> Yes. Over the summer. >> All right. >> So, and everybody's very much aware of her grades slipping and dropping and her attitude changing in the last four or five months. So, >> it's so it was just you and Lydia in the house and everything. All this stuff happened, right? Are there any cameras in the home? >> No, unfortunately. No. Officers ask about prior incidents, injuries, and household conditions. While the mother provides photos of marks she claims resulted from the encounter. >> Okay. And then like in the past is any has she ever like done anything like that to you? >> Yeah. >> Like can you describe any of that to me? >> Same thing. >> Same thing. Like she'll can you tell me like what it is? >> She gets very upset and she gets very emotional and then I tell her you can't talk to me like that. Yeah, she'll talk to me like, you know how the kids are nowadays. Like, >> dou me like that. Like, I'm your mom, you know, and um just pretty much telling me that um she's going to get me arrested and this and that. And I said, well, you can do whatever you have to do. My job is to raise an independent functioning adult, you know, and I'm trying to teach you manners and respect. And unfortunately, you know, with these kids nowadays, they're so equipped to call the law enforcement the minute that, you know, things don't go their way. I was signed up for flag football. I've had the flag football coach come to my car, tell me how she was acting up the whole time and she's disrespectful in front of the coach. She was being disrespectful, saying, "Oh my god, I didn't do that." Da da da. Like, you know, drive with me. She's 13. >> Same thing happened that night. Um, she gets mad, disrespectful. She yells at me, calls me the A lot of it I think is because there's been some strike between her and her dad. Was in jail for 10 years. We just did a custody battle. She has to go out there mandatory for 6 weeks. And I don't know if this is leading up to that. >> I don't know. >> Is she being I don't know. Like what did she say? You know, I don't really know if she doesn't open up to me, but when it comes down to the >> Did she take any like medications or anything? She diagnosed anything? >> No, I haven't taken her to the doctor for anything to be honest. I've just been doing trial and error trying to hope that this is just a fate. Everybody tells me that girls go through the stage. So, >> give me two seconds. I want to move my car out of the way. >> Absolutely. No problem. >> Deputy Lucy, he's going to hang tight with you and talk to her. >> Like, everybody's against her. You know, nobody's for her. But a lot of it just comes from being spoiled. I mean, this weekend she had a friend over all weekend. She didn't want to hang out with her mom after work, go to the beach. I bought her Door Dash. I bought her things, you know, and she's just becoming really spoiled and thinking that I'm supposed to just let her stay on the internet all day and her grades can do whatever they want and that's what it is. I'm supposed to do >> and I told her that's not how it works. >> Do you have any other like marks or injuries from today? >> I just have like I mean I don't really know. I just know that that's what >> the mother describes heightened emotions and difficulty recalling precise details and officers allow her time to calm down before continuing questioning. >> My boss pointed out to you. >> Yeah, that >> you said there's like scratches on your chest. >> Yeah. >> Right there. >> You know, and uh it's really good. Just the pictures I've sent for my coworker. >> No, I got you. It's still an investigation, right? You're saying she charges at you, right? >> Yes, sir. >> All right. At that point in time, you're just grabbing her to hold her down. >> Yeah. And then she starts uh while I'm grabbing her, she starts hitting me. >> Okay. Was that like a closed fist? >> Honestly, it happened so fast and with the scratches. I can't tell you if it was like with my her fist or not. I think it was more so than just like trying to do like this and like just, you know, and trying to swing me around. She grabbed my hair like this, hit me against the wall. Like there's a bunch. It was so many different things that happened in the moment and I pinned her down. >> Okay. On the floor. And where did this whole altercation take place? >> It took place uh right by the stairs. And there's a um little area, I don't know what you call it, like the front front living room, but it's not designed for living more like a dining room area. My mom has set up >> closer to the front of the house and like the dining room. >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. That's where this took place. >> Yes, sir. >> So, you're saying she's charging you, she's swinging at you, she pulls your hair, hits you. So, you grab her by the arms. How do you grab her? Honestly, I feel like I can't recall everything at this moment because my anxiety is very high. >> It's very high. >> Yeah. And I'm just very distraught with the whole thing. Um, but it just happened so fast. Um, got you. >> I just recall at the end me telling her, "You can't just respect me like this. I'm your mother." Okay. >> And if you don't respect me, you're not going to respect me in this world. Fair enough. >> And I said, you know, I just screamed at her and told her and she's like, "You hate me. You hate me." I said, "It's not that I hate you. I just don't like your behavior." >> Yeah. I got you. >> And then when I got up at I went to the shower to get ready for work and then that's when she ran off the ground. >> That's when she ran out. Yes, sir. >> I got you. So, as far as her like when she was on the ground, right? Do you remember that like that part after that like physically like what happened? Like you getting up off the ground? >> I think that I like I just said I am having high anxiety to remember everything at this moment. Maybe if I >> The mother provides a detailed timeline of events earlier in the day, including a cancelled appointment, continued arguments, and the youth leaving the home. >> Okay. Is that okay? All right. I'll be right back. This is Deputy Joseph. He's the one who's taking a report and conducting the investigation. >> Thank you. >> Um she was walking really slow to get out of the building and the secretary said, "Oh, she's coming, but she's moving very slow." and she started giving the lady an attitude saying, "I'm not moving slow. What are you talking about?" Blah, blah, blah. Like talking back and so I told her, "You can't do that." We walked out and I said, "You need to go back in there and apologize." Then I asked her whose headset she had. She had a pair of headsets of a friend. I said, "These are $100 headsets beats. Can you please give them to the lady and have them return it to its owner cuz we can't be responsible for that." So then she's off at me. We go to get to the dentist and we're talking about all her responsibilities that she hasn't been doing. Brushing her teeth twice a day, making sure, you know, certain things are done and chores around the house, whatever. Whatever. We get to the dentist. The dentist said that we don't start till 1:15. I said, "I have to be to work at 2:00. Is there any way I can get an Uber to bring her home?" The dentist said, "No, she can't stay here by herself." So, at that point, I rescheduled the appointment for Friday. And then, we were still discussing on the way home the different things. When we got home, she started raging out, basically calling me a bunch of different things and charged me and I just hit her to the floor. All the actions in between, I can't 100% explain because it happened so quickly and so fast. So, when I got into the shower, she decided to run out the door with me when she was on. And now I'm understanding the other side that she went to the neighbor's house and they contacted you guys and here we are. Um, I was contacted at work through my mom, but the neighbor contacted her and I was headed home and then that's when they stopped me here. So pretty much that >> officers assess explanations for injuries, clarify disciplinary actions taken and confirm the youth's age and living arrangements. >> I do have both of my kids' parents on the line just so that if we need to, you know, get my kids or whatnot so so I can make arrangements for them. You guys, cuz my mom said that you guys found bruises on her. She did come home from a girl named Johnny's house on Friday with bruises or Saturday. I'm not quite sure what day it was cuz I've been working on stuff. >> You know what the bridges were? >> No, they were horse playing, but I can't tell you exactly everything. I just know that they called me and pretty much she showed me like on her arm and like on her either I don't know what rib or something like that. So, I don't know exactly the bruises, but I just told her, "Dang, you bruised easily and you know, you shouldn't be playing like that, you know, to where it's, you know, causing that." So, and that's basically everything in that show. So, >> and then you said you were you were disciplining her. Yeah, I was just telling her that I'm taking her phone away and that's when she charged me because of the situation that >> How did she charge you exactly? >> Well, at this point they've asked me to remain silent just because I can't recall exactly what happened event after event because it happened so quickly and I was trying to get to work. So, I wasn't late since I just started this job. >> So, you don't want to talk to us anymore then? >> I do. I don't want to be disrespectful, but I I don't want to um you know, I don't want to feel like I need to, you know, like tell you every I can't recall every scenario that happened in that moment because it's an emotional moment. And um obviously we're here. This is just not the right state of mind for me. And I mean, I'll tell you, she's been a straight A student since January. Her grades started slipping in February. She's been hanging around the wrong people. She's been in school suspension, almost threatened out school suspension. The counselor has asked me to contact her. I have contacted her several times. But since the seventh grade counselor is unavailable because the eighth grade counselor passed away, she's taken on two jobs and she hasn't really been able to contact me. So, this is just where I'm at. I know that another thing that's been bothering her is she feels like I'm forcing her to go to California, which she's supposed to leave next Friday to visit her dad >> for the summer or something >> for the summer for 6 weeks. and um she's been very angry at me that I have made an agreement with her dad. >> Officers placed the mother into custody following the investigation and advise her of the arrest. >> Yes, sir. That's where we're at. >> Okay. Okay. [clears throat] Can you do me a favor? Can you step out of the vehicle, please? Do me a favor. Turn around, please. >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. >> And my phone, my car is still on. >> Yeah, we'll take care of that. Can you step over here away from the door? Okay. >> And are you put this in the cup holder? >> That's fine. Yeah. Can you not do it too too tight? >> I'm making sure. Yep. I'm making sure I got left over. >> Yeah. Yeah. I'll I'll I'll loosen that up a touch. >> Mhm. >> Thank you guys. >> But we're going to walk over here. >> For what it's worth, we appreciate you. >> No. >> I know it's a crap situation. >> Yes, sir. >> Some people act differently. >> No, I understand. >> You've been nothing but respectful the whole time. >> I appreciate it. Thank you guys. Awesome. >> If you want to just do me a favor, step up here real quick. >> Yes, sir. >> Thank you guys so much. >> Like I said, we're not here to make your day any worse than it already is. >> No, I appreciate it. here. >> While being transported, the mother notifies her employer of the arrest and states she is being charged in relation to the incident. >> Hey Courtney, it's Brooke. >> Hey. >> Hey. I wanted to let you know they did detain me and I'm headed to jail for the night until court in the morning. So, I know I'm off tomorrow, but I know obviously AA is going to put a flag for me not to be able to work with this type of investigation cuz they are arresting me for child Okay. >> Um, so I I'll be in touch with you or my attorney will um I guess by the end of the week or you know I guess we'll just take it from there. >> Yes, ma'am. And let me know what's going on. Okay. >> Okay. Thank you so much, Courtney. I appreciate you. >> Thank you. It's easier to do it in here than >> the woman was charged with battery without great bodily harm as stated at the conclusion of the incident. Remember, you can see how fast the situation spiraled. The officers took a lot of time gathering statements. It's a tough situation for everyone involved. This is the reaction of netzens to this situation. You can see how fast the situation spiraled. The officers took a lot of time gathering statements. It's a tough situation for everyone involved. You think the officers were out of options here. Watch what happens next on the body cam and tell us if you would have done the same. The next incident is when police search for mom after three-year-old is found wandering naked outside. >> I guess she opened the door. >> I guess she's I guess climbed on that bike. I'm not sure how she unlocked this. It's always locked instead of you know them just bake in the sun while I'm waiting on him. >> I got you. >> They were asleep. >> They norally just they're good inside. >> [music] >> On October 31st, 2024, officers discussed how a resident's door may have been opened with uncertainty about how the locking mechanism was accessed while the adults were away. You >> also have the right to stop answering any time until you speak with a lawyer. You understand here's going to read you something real quick >> and then we'll talk about it. All right. >> All righty. You have to tell anything you can say. Can be used against you in a court of law. also have the right to stop answering anytime until you speak with a lawyer. Do you understand these rights? Oh, I got you. So, uh how long have you been living uh living here? >> Since December. >> Okay. What happened today? Do you mind walking me through the course of events? >> So, they were sleeping. Okay. >> And it was time to go get here for school. >> Okay. >> They were sleeping. I closed the door, gave them their Cheetos >> and their drink. Now, the TV is going to know how to unlock door, but I open the door. Yeah. >> So, I was getting him. I guess she opened the door >> and then I guess she's I guess climbed on that bike. I'm not sure how she unlocked this. It's always locked. Okay. >> Both of them are locked. I got cameras, everything. >> Keep everything locked. >> Pretty well secured. >> Yeah, it's I'm not sure how she opened the door. Um only thing she was naked is because she in the middle of potty training and so I guess she peed on herself and she took her pants off. casual. >> The mother explains the door was usually locked, references security measures, and states the lack of clothing was related to potty training. >> So that's I guess that's why she was naked. >> Okay. What time did you uh give him the drinks and the Cheetos? >> About 1:00. >> Is that when you went to go pick him up? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> It takes about about 20 25 minutes. >> Gotcha. What do you drive there? Oh, that >> the gold sienna >> the blue. >> Has that been pretty reliable for you? >> Not really. >> No. What's wrong? >> Seems to be breaking down on it. >> AC's broken out and so all that thing just get so hot in here. >> Okay, I got you. Is that kind of why you left them inside? >> Yeah, instead of, you know, let them just bake in the sun while I'm waiting on him. >> I got you. >> They were asleep here real quick. >> That makes sense. Ran him. I mean, it wasn't wasn't that bad. Have you ever took them anywhere like prior to this? Like all all three together? >> What is it? >> Have you ever taken them like all three together? Um they went somewhere. >> Oh, yeah. They >> without the AC. They've been they've been fine. >> Well, usually it's like at night or something if we're going big places or appointments or something and Yeah. They're usually always >> Okay, I got you. >> So 1:00 gave him Cheetos and a drink. Just kind of hung out. You went to go pick. And then what time did you get back? Oh, I didn't just approximately ask the same time. >> She explains she has no regular support system and was contacted by someone at an office who had brought the family members back inside. >> Uh probably 2:30. >> 2:30. Okay, I got you. Does anybody normally watch the kids like uh like friends? >> So, I don't have anybody. >> You don't have like grandparents or anything like that? >> Nobody. Do you normally have any help with picking them up or or watching them? >> No, I don't get no help. My mom's disabled. She lives in Milton way out dog wood up there. >> So, she wouldn't be able to to >> come and help out and watch the kids. >> She can't walk. >> Okay. That's a long drive. >> Yeah. >> All righty. So, you got back at like 2:30ish. And then did anybody call you in between those times? >> Yeah. Miss um Alex in the office called me and everything. >> Is Miss Alex like an employee or? >> Yeah, I think she's like >> Okay. Sure. Her exact exact position. >> I got you. >> No, she had called me and let me know that the I don't know her name in the office, another helper assistant, I think. Um that she had back inside for me because they were out here on the front plane and she didn't know that um me and Miss Alex had a conversation. >> Officers ask about prior incidents. The mother states this was a one-time situation and that she does not usually leave them alone. >> I guess that's why she went ahead and called you guys. >> Yeah. >> But um Yeah. >> Okay. >> If she no one was talking to me, she I guess she would have called her. >> Yeah, you're right. >> Cuz I was came right. >> Has this ever happened before? >> No. Never had no trouble with anything. Only got a speeding ticket. >> I got you. How does it normally work with them? They normally just they're good inside and you just kind of leave them to work or stuff. You take them with you? >> Yeah, they were just taking a nap, so I just went ahead and Okay. >> Went ahead and grabbed him. >> Hey, dude. >> Usually their naps are hour and 30 or so. >> Have you ever left them by themselves before? >> No. >> No. Just a one time thing. >> Officers ask her to step aside, place her hands behind her back, and advise that they will explain the next steps. She asks to speak with her spouse. >> They're sleeping. >> All righty. >> Never went to sleep at night. I totally understand that. Probably don't get enough sleep as it is. >> Yeah. All right. >> Sick. So, trying to hurry, get back home, get my nap in. >> Are they good on the couch? Can we try to get him inside the couch? On the couch for me? >> Hey, dude. Am I coming inside for me? >> Come here real quick. >> I appreciate you. >> Sit down on the couch real quick. Thank you. >> All righty. I appreciate it. Mind step outside for me for a little bit. All right. I put your hands behind your back for me. I'll explain everything. Explain everything for you. All right. Just walk downstairs for me for a little bit. You have anything on you? >> That's my phone. >> Okay. I think Yeah, you can take her back out whenever. >> Yeah, that's all right. >> All right. >> Can I call my husband while we here? >> Yeah. Just give me one second. Okay. We're going to figure stuff out. All right. Hang on for a second for me. Okay. Officers coordinate identification, confirm arrangements for relatives to take custody, and formally place the mother under arrest for neglect of a dependent. >> If um if mom >> Yeah, we're going to figure it out. All right. These are the babies from uh descending order. The oldest 19. He was not here. Okay. >> He was with her. He was >> Yeah. This is uh she's in the card. Okay. So this is >> that's mom. >> This is mom. >> That's mom's deal. I assume she's in the card. >> This is the complaint caller. >> So that's her number going over there. She's in the card as well. So she released for >> So we threw it away. I was like >> Yeah, that doesn't ironic, right? >> So you said descending order. So, >> yeah. So, the top one, he was not a victim. >> Okay. >> And then the >> black female, she was naked. That was the one who's knew him. >> Okay. The other boy who just had diaper and I didn't get the information, but he's working. He lives here. He's in uh he works in Orange Beach. >> Okay. >> How you doing, man? >> Hey, man. And I'm qualified. >> Okay. Yes, ma'am. So, she did give me permission to watch. I told her to get up the first time. Yeah, my baby. >> I appreciate it. >> Hello. >> Hello. >> So, you okay with her taking? >> On the table. >> Okay. >> They'll tell you more whenever you get here. I know. I'm qualified, baby. >> You have ID on your boss? >> I work I work with counseling agent right now. >> You got a >> What's this? What's your name? >> All right. All right. Yeah. >> So, we let them know. And uh >> you got Eric, baby. >> Yeah. >> They got that stuff. >> Yeah. It's in the hallway. >> Well, I got the the Pampers in the back of the car. Getting the Pampers in the back of the car. I ain't never been in trouble before. >> About to get out of here. Okay. You got her ID. Hers >> I do not. No hers. I got I got >> Yes. I got your I got your friends, not yours. My daughter. >> It's mine. >> Oh, that's yours. Okay. >> That's mine. >> Okay. My My apologies. Somebody else gave me that. So, >> mine like me. >> I believe she's in the cards. Is she going to want her phone? >> Yeah. >> When she gets out? >> She going to live with me, baby. >> Well, she going to want it when she gets out. >> Yeah. Let Let her take it. Yeah, she's probably going to want >> I'm sorry. I got to unplug the battery. That's why the lights is still on there. >> You want to take your phone? >> Yeah. So, I got it. I'll take that. >> What exactly is happening? >> So, you're being arrested for traveling. So, you're going to go to the jail and just get booked in and then you'll have I believe you'll have a bond and you can get out. >> The woman was charged with neglect of a dependent. Remember, law enforcement evaluates supervision decisions based on circumstances, timelines, and available caregivers. Leaving dependence unattended, even briefly, can lead to legal consequences when safety concerns arise. This is the reaction of netzens to this situation. This shows how quickly a situation can escalate once authorities get involved. The officers focused a lot on the timeline and supervision details. It's a reminder that short absences can still raise serious concerns. The tension is already high. Or so it seems. What the body cam [music] captures next saves a life pause and comment what you do here. The next incident is when woman leaves four-month-old baby in car without child seat. What is your problem? >> I don't have a problem. I do understand. >> That don't make you a good person. >> You're under arrest for child endangering. >> Uh-uh. Get your hand. [music] >> On December 7th, 2022, officers arrived at a school after a report that a 4-month-old infant was found in a vehicle without a car seat. 69year-old Lucio Lucille Callaway is identified as the driver and first questioned. morning when I dropped off air scottle this morning, >> a staff member that observed this female right here with the four-month-old and no car seat or anything like that. >> So, obviously that's a concern. >> So, we get here and she acknowledged that no, she does not have a car seat and that she was transporting the child in the front seat with a seat belt on. Still not okay. >> Okay. >> So, children services were contacted Mahoney County and Kyoga County. >> Yeah, I spoke to Miranda. I haven't spoken to Mrs. Oroki yet. >> Okay. I just got off the phone with a supervisor from Mahoney County. They are in route. They're going to be taking custody of the fourmonth-old and the five and fouryear-old are going to go in custody. >> To do all of that and I got car seats for these kids. >> Okay. Then if you understand that she was sick, the baby is sick. This is my cousin that you're talking about. >> Lucio and family explain why the vehicle lacked a car seat. Another caregiver had the car seats and could not lift them. Officers repeatedly state that transporting a newborn without a car seat is unsafe. >> Do you even understand? Look, I I work at a counseling agency then you would perform my sessions and not be interrupted. You would understand our concern. So the thing is the person that normally picks up had the car seats in their car. They had appointment and stuff like that and so they couldn't pick the kids up at the normal time that they needed to be. I called I met with Miss uh Zor this morning when I dropped off Aristotle this morning and I explained to her that my mother was going to have to pick up Aristotle and them. Could you please have them ready cuz she cannot get out the car because she has an infant that she's going to be having to bring with her, you know, um regardless of car seat or whatever. She can't lift the car seat and all that and transport the baby like I probably, you know, like I can and stuff like that. So my mother gets up, gets the baby dressed, Tintel, comes down the street a block and picks up the kids and wants to go back home so she can tend to an infant and take care of the kids as she normally does every day. She takes care of the kids cuz they're dropped off to her at my home and she takes care of the kids at the home. Okay. >> Okay. So, the fact that he forgot to leave the car seats so that she could transport the kids is why we are where we are right now. >> That's still not It's not a good enough. >> Both cars have car seats for the kids. >> Okay. Yeah. You know what I'm saying? That's that's still not that's still not an excuse. >> Shouldn't be reached to bring him back. >> Well, then then she shouldn't have she shouldn't have left the house. She shouldn't have left the house with the newborn child. Officers instruct Lucio not to leave with the infant and communicate that the newborn will be taken into protective custody. Tensions rise during the exchange. >> Tell you something. Then they would have said something about the kids being left. >> I I would rather I would rather have a phone call saying a child wasn't picked up from school rather than having a four-month-old being transported in a motor vehicle without a car seat. >> Well, I'm about to call Miranda. >> You go ahead. I just got the phone with Miranda and Miranda strictly told me to not let you take custody of any of these children. and that you were supposed to go home and go get formula and a change of clothes. >> Is that is that accurate? >> No, that's not what Miranda told me. >> Well, I just spoke to the supervisor on the phone and she said that they spoke to you. >> Okay. Well, that's what we're doing today. >> What is wrong? What is your problem? >> I don't have a problem. >> Officer Young, whatever your name is. >> Officer Young, the the the issue is is what we have going on. >> It's horrible. It is horrible. My mom is not like she's not she's a grandmother. takes care of kids all day, every day. >> I'm pretty sure she did what she thought was securing the baby at that time. >> It's not okay. >> Like, you are just reckless. >> No, no, this is reckless. Driving with a newborn inside a car is reckless. Without a car seat, that is reckless. >> I had a seat belt on the face. >> That's okay. That's not okay. >> He is a mess. I don't understand this man here. No understand how dangerous that is. >> I do. >> Okay. So then it's not then you would understand it's reckless. >> You would understand it's understand that. But what I'm telling you is that it's not nothing where she purposely just was trying to neglect. It's neglect. >> She's trying to be helpful. >> Helpful in the wrong way. >> No, neglect is you taking this baby and his only family. >> No, I'm making sure this kid is taken care of. >> We're his only family. So what are you talking about? You taking care of him. You're not going to take care of him like I take care of him. I'm his cousin. >> How do you know I'm cousin? >> I have a six-month-old at home. Trust me, I know this is reckless. This is You don't need You don't need to raise your voice. No, I'm not horrible. The thing I do understand because I'm a father. I do understand. >> That don't make you a good person. >> A physical confrontation occurs as officers attempt to secure the infant and take custody. One adult tries to interfere and officers direct compliance. %. >> Yeah, I'm 70 years old. I know >> you're 69. >> Your wisdom. Your wisdom. >> Well, you will give me 6 70. >> Well, the the the newborn's going to be going in custody of Mahoning County Children's Services. >> Let them do what they got to do. >> Ma'am, you are not going to be leaving with that child. >> Ma'am, you are not going to be leaving with that child. Go on the other side. >> My car. >> That's what I can't do. >> No, >> you will not come in my car. And I did not give you permission. >> You don't have to give me permission. You're obstructing. You're going to go to jail. >> You're gonna get arrested for obstructing. >> He needs to rest in his car seat. Back up. >> Oh, now you want to put him in a car seat. >> Well, why don't you just wait till that service? >> He's always car, sir. Excuse me. >> You're going to be placed under arrest. >> Why are you arresting my mother? >> Child in danger. >> What did I do? >> Child in danger. You're under arrest for child endangering. >> Go ahead and put your hands behind your back. >> Stop that. Don't handcap her. She is >> Move away. Move away. Move away. Move away. >> But you're sick. I know. >> Ma'am, you're on the verge of getting real. Y'all some racist ass. Move back. >> For real. You're racist. Uhuh. Get your hands off me. You're going to go back. >> I touched you. Back the hell up. >> For real. >> You don't even have this car seat in the right way. >> You ain't give me a chance to strap in. You're >> There's a child right here. >> Stop. [screaming] >> You don't holler at me. >> Let go. There's a child right here. You're going to go to jail. You're going to go to jail. >> I don't get with you. >> Get back. >> Get back. >> Not. Don't do that. >> I know you're not. You are a racist. >> Yes, he is. Leave him alone. >> You [screaming] [ __ ] >> Get away from me. You're not. You're not coming inside this school. You're going to go to jail. >> You're going to go to jail. You're going to go to jail. Go. >> I will get you out. I'm making >> You're not You are not coming inside this school. >> I'm not coming in the school. Don't worry about it. And why are you taking him in there? >> For the safety of the child. >> Your ass is what it needs to be guarded from. For real. This is ridiculous. I don't understand this. >> I don't understand you and your parenting cuz apparently you need to learn about it. >> Place your hands behind your back. You're under arrest. Officers place one adult identified as the mother Nikki Callaway under arrest after she attempts to remove the infant and resists handcuffing. Officers state charges for obstructing and resisting. >> What is she doing? >> You're under arrest. You're under arrest. >> I'm not doing nothing. >> Stop. You're under arrest. >> What is wrong with you? >> Stop. What is wrong with you? >> What are you arresting me for? >> Obstructing. >> I am Stop resisting. You're going to go down. You're going to go down to the ground. >> You're going to go down to the ground. >> Oh my god. What is wrong with you? >> Stop. >> Put your hands behind your back. >> Oh my god. Stop it. You don't have to do that. >> Stop. Stop. >> What is wrong with you? >> You're going to jail. >> I'm about to uh >> You're going to jail for obstructing. Stop. >> You are going to get Now you're getting charged with resisting. >> You are going to get sued. >> Now you're going to jail for resisting. >> This is crazy. >> Stop. >> I deal with kids every day and you'reing crazy. >> Stop. You're going to jail. Oh my god. Oh, you wait till I see a judge. This is crazy. You should not have a bag. Wait a minute. Here, put my phone in car. >> I will. >> My things are slipping. >> Here, I got your phone. >> Here. >> 107 log 247s. >> Here, take this thing. >> Place an arrest for obstructing and resisting arrest. You're a liar. You are a liar. If you ain't If I ain't never seen one, I ain't been ever in jail. Like, this is crazy. >> Because I placed the baby in a car seat in a car. >> Try getting in the way of when we were making an arrest. >> No, I didn't. >> And you're not listening. Why? >> I do not get in the way. I asked you. Why are you arresting my mother? >> You don't listen. >> Hello. >> Hi. >> Hi. Are you with children services? Um, Ohio mentor. I work in conjunction with M County Children Service. >> Very good. Children are inside. >> Oh, okay. >> Uh, you know what? Let me I guess put this back in the car then. >> Yeah, that's fine. >> Okay. >> You're going to be taking custody of the two the two children. >> Oh, okay. That's what you guys want as far as >> Well, you're injunction with Kyhoga County for the two children. >> Kyhoga County. I'm just trying to see exactly what's going on. Um, well, grandma's under arrest and mom's under arrest. Grandma's under arrest for child endangering, for transporting. >> Officers confirm that Lucio will be charged for transporting the four-month-old without a car seat. Child endangerment and coordinate the transfer of the newborn to Mahoning County Children's Services. >> Fourmonth-old on a car without a car seat and holding the child and placing it in a front seat with a seat belt. Then mom interfered during our arrest and tried to take the child and put the child in her car when she was directly ordered not to. So she's under arrest for obstructing and resisting arrest. And grandma's going to go for child endangering. That's where we're at >> cuz they did say uh someone from Ohio mentor was coming to get the two children. Yes. Then Mahoney County Children Services is coming to get the newborn. Mahoney County Children Service is coming to get the baby. >> Yes. >> And I'm getting Arwan and Aristotle. >> Correct. >> So you're you're from I'm here in Paradise. I'm the social worker here. >> Yes. Ohio. From Ohio. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Do you have your ID on your ma'am? >> I have license. >> Yes. >> My driver. >> Oh, that's fine.
