The 43-year-old grandmother was arrested and charged with felonious assault and improperly discharging a firearm after allegedly discharging a weapon. She was booked into the Butler County Jail and later pleaded guilty. On April 10th, 2025, she was sentenced to two to three years in prison and began serving her sentence. Remember, firearms should always be handled with extreme care and secured to prevent accidental discharge, especially in homes with children. Immediate emergency response and rapid coordination, [music] can significantly improve survival outcomes in critical incidents. This is the reaction of nizens to this situation. Thank goodness the baby survived. This shows why gun safety is so [music] important in homes with kids. Glad officers secured the scene quickly. Everyone thought it was too late until the body cam shows the exact second officers step in. Did you predict that rescue? The next incident is when police rescue one-year-old from insanely dangerous mother. >> You can get out. We can walk around. That's fine. >> No, I don't. I just want to go home. >> Get your hands right off of me. >> Get your hands behind your back. >> Why are you doing this to me? >> Because you were pushing me. >> Because you're in the way of my >> On July 12th, 2023, officers responded to a call about a one-year-old child harmed at a home in Harvard, Illinois. Harvard Police Department officers found that the mother had allegedly thrown her toddler requiring immediate medical attention and she resisted arrest during the incident as reported by the Mckenry County Circuit Court. >> It's been bad since then, you know. >> Hello, Caitlyn. >> Yeah. >> Hi. That's your kid with you. Okay. So, we had a call that the kid was crying and some whoever called it in thought you might be having some trouble with the kid or >> disciplining it or something. >> No. Okay. Well, somebody else said that they saw you drop him in the parking lot. >> Okay. I didn't. He I set him down to put him in the car seat. >> Okay. Can I check on him real quick over there? >> No. >> Well, I have to. >> Why? because I want to make sure he's not injured. >> He's not. He's fine. >> I have to check. >> I just put him down and he like fell. >> Okay. Well, I'm just going to check and make >> The mother initially resists officers checking on the child. Officers state they must verify the child's condition due to credible reports. >> Make sure he's not injured. Okay. >> It's not a question. I have to do it. I have to make sure the child isn't injured. We have cred credible information. >> It's not credible information. Nobody saw I was putting the baby in the car seat. >> Okay. But two people were telling us that they witnessed you drop the child. They didn't say it was on purpose. >> It's not I put him down in the parking lot. >> Okay. >> He's been crying a lot lately. >> Then I just I'm just going to check on him and make sure he doesn't have any injuries. Okay. >> Well, I mean his lips got a little blood. Am I >> That's okay. And we're just going to make sure he's okay. >> He is okay. >> He's fine. Well, I'm going to I just We need to check on him. Okay. >> Okay, then look. >> You can get out. We can walk around. That's fine. >> No, I don't. I just want to go home. Like, you know. >> Well, why did you leave when you saw us? I see you. >> Because I'm scared. I'm always scared of you guys. Because the last time the police were involved in my life, it's been bad since then, you know. >> No, I I don't know what you're talking about. >> So, he's okay. >> Okay. Yeah, we just need to check. I mean, that's okay, right? >> Hey, it is okay. >> Okay. He got like a little hurt. I sat him down, >> but he's okay. >> Hey, bud. >> Hey, say hi. Like, he got a little hurt when he fell, but he's okay. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Well, we just need We're going to have rescue check. >> No, rescue doesn't need to come. >> No, because you're saying like you should No, because you said that you just came to look at. >> Why are you pushing me? >> BECAUSE let go of me. LET GO OF ME. LET GO OF ME. LET GO OF ME. I didn't do anything. Let go of me. >> Get your hands behind your back. Get your hands >> Let go of me. >> Get your hands behind your back. Why are >> you doing this to me? >> Because you were pushing me. >> Because you're in the way of my car. >> The mother is handcuffed and informed she is being arrested for pushing the officer. Rescue personnel are requested to evaluate the toddler for visible injuries. >> Please, why did you just do that to me? >> Just realize >> J5 Montana tightening up >> and dispatch rescue. >> Check out this toddler. He's got some injuries. Tighten these up. >> No. >> Third in Northfield. >> Third in Northfield. >> What am I under arrest for? >> They're all pushing me for one thing. >> What am I under arrest for? >> Pushing me right now. >> What am I under arrest for? >> That's aggravated battery. Police to get rescue. What's your location? >> We're in front of >> Third Street. >> For what? >> For pushing. >> Pushing me. >> Because you're in the way of my car and my kid and my >> Your kid's injured and I was checking on him. You can't push me another way. >> The child is transported for medical evaluation. The mother states she is protective due to prior involvement with authorities. >> Are my glasses? >> Yeah, we'll get them. Can you put them on? >> Hi, buddy. How are you? >> Hi. >> You okay? >> You want a toy? H I can get you a toy. >> What we got in here? You got any toys? What >> we got this? Chicago cubs. What do you think? They're pretty nice. Consistent with the kid face planting. >> Hi, buddy. >> Face planting on the cement. >> I'm going to hit the camera. Yeah, [clears throat] hang on, buddy. We'll be right back. Okay. Okay, Caitlyn, we're gonna have rescue come out. Check out your kid. Okay. Take him to the hospital. Make sure he's okay. I'm going to transport you to the police department. Uh, [clears throat] you can't push me out of the way like that. >> I'm sorry. I'm very protective of >> Witness statements are relayed to medical personnel alleging the mother threw the toddler face first onto the pavement. Officers confirm the child will be placed in protective custody while the mother is in custody. >> Andrew, the last time the police came, they took him away. The dad didn't. Like I'm so protective. I'm I >> Well, look where we're at. >> I'm like at this point in my life where this has been going on and like there's nothing I can do. >> Well, you Well, what one thing you shouldn't do ever is push a police officer when we're trying to check on the well-being of your child. That's that's a good thing that we're doing. Okay. When you're pushing me out of the way, that means >> that [ __ ] hurts. >> Sometimes I got to do that. I can't let you get on back into the car without checking the, you know, the medical status of your kid who's got injuries. You can't be pushing me out of the way when I'm doing that. >> It's not right in any sense. >> But it's not right to get in someone and tell them that you're taking their >> I didn't even say that to you, did I? >> So, we got a report that um >> Hold on. >> Nikki's going to be >> Okay. >> the paramedic. >> We've had mom. The mom was carrying like a football and was angry and upset. Threw him on the ground. Look at his face. >> Her a witness. >> Hi sweetie. >> She threw her on the ground. >> That's what the witness said. She was holding him with kid like this and the kid was then screaming was screaming and crying and she just dropped her face for a second. >> Obviously you want transport. >> Yeah. You guys you're in protective custody. >> At the station officers advise the mother of her Miranda rights and begin questioning. She denies intentionally harming the child and explains she left the scene because she feared neighbors had called police. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> She's going to jail cuz she was pushing me out of the way so she ain't going to take any kids. >> Is there family here at all? >> Yeah. >> No. >> No. No. No. This isn't even She lives in Northfield. When she saw us over there, >> that's the mom. >> Yeah. So, you have 24. Are you available for a call? Ma'am, does the baby have any >> medical issues? No. Any allergies medication? Doesn't take any medication. No, no problems during pregnancy with the baby. >> Oh, all right. Come on out. Walk around the front of my car over to that doorway. Okay. right over there. Since we you are in custody and we did arrest you, I'm going to read you you your Miranda rights. Okay. So, [clears throat] before you asked any questions, it's my duty to advise you of your rights. You have the right to remain silent. Do you understand that right? Okay. Anything you say can be used against you in court or other proceedings. Do you understand that? Yes. Okay. You have the right to talk with a lawyer for advice before you're asked any questions concerning this matter and to have your lawyer with you before, during, or after questioning. You understand that? Okay. And if you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be appointed free of cost to you by a judge before you are asked questions if you wish. You understand that? Okay. Okay. So, this is the Miranda rights that I just read you. Okay. You can read through them again if you like. I just ask you to um initial by each one of these lines that you understand what those rights are and that I read it to you. Okay. >> Don't like that. >> During questioning, officers confront her about multiple bruises in various stages of healing. She states she was unaware of the extent of the bruising. She is later booked into the Mckenry County Jail. >> That's C. >> You could watch that. >> That's a C. >> Yes, that's a C. That's not my middle name. >> Oh, I'm sorry. What? What's your middle name? >> Jade. >> Oh, Jay. Okay. >> You mind if I ask you some questions about what happened today? >> Sure. >> Okay. So, we got a call that and the concern was with your child. Um, they weren't sure what exactly was going on, but they knew your child was crying. I don't know how they knew that or who actually even who Okay. I don't know who called. Okay. Um, honestly, I they wanted to be Okay. Um, they thought for some reason that you may have been hitting the child. Um, so that's the call we got and that's why we we showed up there. >> 11. >> So, do you want to tell me what was going on with you and and your child today? Nothing. >> So, what made you come back right away? just I wanted to get home. Uh feel safe at home. >> Okay. But did you did you make it to the gas station? >> Yeah, we got gas. >> Did you go to Walmart after that? >> I went, but then like I decided I don't want to go inside. >> Okay. >> Cuz like I more just want to make sure and put like ice on his lip cuz I saw it hurt his lip. So >> I just want to get home cuz his lip was hurt. >> Return to Why did you why did you leave from there when you I'm assuming? >> Because I saw them upstairs and I saw the neighbor who was always like Gerberg and talking to us and his wife and I saw them like staring down at me as I came in because like he always says he has like the eagle tower and he watches everything. So I already know like >> that you know like cuz we were right outside their door when he fell. So then I'm like oh my god they called the cops. I see the cops out front. I say see them up in their balcony and I'm just like, "Oh my god." Like, "I need to just not like go because they probably think, you know, they called the cops on me." >> Okay. >> Right. So, you're going to leave. Like, >> did you think you did something wrong? >> No, I didn't think like I on purpose. However, like I don't know what they think and they, you know, like I can't just say and make people feel the way I feel. They're going to feel how they feel. When they see a baby hurt, they don't care. Like, [clears throat] >> but when I say he I was setting him down and he fell over, that's the words that people don't hear, you know? >> Right. Okay. So, um so that explains the lip, you know, the obviously the little blood on the lips, right? Um what about the other bruising that was he had some bruising on his back and uh look like on his butt and a couple other couple other places. Do you have any idea how he's getting bruises all over him like that? No. So, you never notice that he had some bruises on his back and his butt >> here or there and stuff, but >> I mean, I have kids. I got a couple kids, too. So, I mean, I've gone through all that, right? >> Um, but you you never noticed the bruises on his butt and his lower back. And when's the last time you changed his diaper? >> This morning. >> And you didn't notice that? >> I just changed. >> Why do you think you wouldn't notice that when you change? I mean, I'm just go ahead >> wipe his butt and he moves so fast and he runs away. >> Advising rescues in round to 800 haze court. 800 Haze court for brief trouble. >> Not responding. They're all tied up. >> Some of the bruises were looked fairly fresh and some of them looked like they've been healing for a little bit. So, I mean, >> you didn't notice any old bruising at all either. >> Okay. Um, you don't have any pockets on you, right? It's just it's just the stretchy >> pants to have a cigarette or smoke or anything? >> Not right now cuz I got a lot of stuff to do. >> You can't give me >> Well, I don't have any cigarettes. >> I don't smoke. I'm pretty I'm pretty healthy person. Uh, you don't have any other pockets or anything on you. Okay. I'm just going to check your hair real quick. Make sure you don't have anything in there. Take your hair clip out here. Oops. Excuse me. 20's hard for the 20. >> So, here's what we're going to do. I got a lot of things that I got to get just get out of the way. So, I need a few minutes to do them. Um I see you don't have anything on you. Okay. If if you have something hidden somewhere, um it's going to be big problems. Okay. So, just be honest with me and tell me if you do. >> I don't. >> Okay. So, I'm going to take the cuffs off you. I'm going to put you in the cell there. Excuse me. I'm going to get what I have uh have to get done done and then I'll come in here in a few minutes um and give you an update. Okay. >> Will you let me have a cigarette? >> I I I don't have a cigarette right now so I don't smoke. >> Anyone have >> I don't think anyone Most people here just chew and >> I know that's fine too. >> I don't know if I can give you I don't know I don't think we can give you any of that actually. Um even if we wanted to. >> You can't even have a cigarette while I'm here. >> No, not unless they're yours. Um, I'd help you out with that if I could, but we can't give you stuff like that. You know, medical issue can arise. Um, I do need your glasses off. You can't have your glasses in there. Do you have any other jewelry on you? It doesn't look like it. Okay. So, just sit them right there. And then you can have a a seat in there. There is water and a bathroom. Um, when I come in to kind of let you know what's going on, I'll let you know I'm coming in. In case you were using the bathroom or something, just let me know. That way I don't open the door on you. Okay. And if you do need any kind of >> like I'm kind of cold. >> Okay. I'll see I'll I'll see if we've got something that you can use to >> keep you warm. >> Yeah, I know. Unfortunately, we can't give you any shoes. Let me let me see what we got and uh I'll see what I can do for you as far as being cold. Okay, just one second. >> The 33-year-old mother was charged with aggravated battery of a child causing great bodily harm. Aggravated battery in a public place. Aggravated battery of a peace officer. Child endangerment. Two counts of resisting a peace officer. Obstructing a peace officer and domestic battery. She was booked into the Mckenry County Jail with a bond set at $75,000. The case [music] will proceed through the court system for adjudication. Remember, when officers respond to reports involving a child's safety, they are required to verify the child's condition before allowing a situation to end. Physical interference with law enforcement during an active welfare check can result in additional criminal charges. This is the reaction of netzens to this situation. The officers stayed focused on the child's safety. It's important to let medical professionals check a child if [music] there are visible injuries. That escalated quickly once she pushed the officer. You think this call can't get worse? The body cam captures the [music] exact second officer's rush and comment if you felt that spike. The next incident is when nightmare neighbor tries to kick down front door at 4:00 a.m. >> You better cough me up right now. >> For what? Well, she doesn't want to talk to you. >> I don't give a [ __ ] >> Mary, you need to leave. >> LIKE I SAID, YOU BETTER TAKE ME TO JAIL THEN. >> MARY, you seem upset. >> I AM BEYOND UPSET. STAY THE AWAY. >> STOP. On August 29th, at approximately 5:20 a.m., the Idaho Falls Police Department received a distress call reporting that Mary Contrarus was attempting to forcefully enter a neighbor's home in Idaho Falls. >> I see it. So, what's going on, Mary? >> Got to see which one you are first. Sorry. >> Huh? >> I see your face first. Sorry. >> Oh, okay. What can I help you with? Um, can you please just let me I know, but I need to speak to my daughter for a moment. I need to touch her. I need to hug her. If not, we're all done. >> Okay. What's your What's your daughter's name? >> Eliza Shassel. >> Okay. And she's she is living here. >> You're against me. >> Thought there was other people living here now. >> Yes. B E R E A. >> Okay. Um, when the neighbor opens the door slightly, Mary rushes toward it, prompting the resident to shut and lock it. Officers instruct Mary to leave the property, explaining she is not permitted to enter. >> You ring the doorbell. >> I've rang it plenty of times. You should have been here a long time ago. >> Okay. They they called us and don't want to talk to you right now. He's like as long as you're not spending the night there. >> It doesn't matter if you're going to spend the night there. We need to know. So you got to come and register that address for temporary. And that's what I do when I want to go to the hotel. Like for instance, I'm going to go down and register a hotel over here in Mount Doris called a Lakeside in Hotel. I'll be doing that this next Monday most likely. When I do that, I'll have to let them know, hey, I'm going to be at the Lakeside Inn at this address. Might have been years. >> Couple years back, but um it's still not right. My mother was working off my brother. >> My brother was sitting down watching TV. >> He was trying to be peaceful, quiet. >> Um, he was also eating some snacks on the couch or whatever before. I need you to get robber. >> During the mother's arrest, officers locate a pipe in the vehicle and initiate a vehicle search. >> All right. Where did I just come to your house? >> Yes. >> Okay. What about Lauren? I don't know where long she's going to jail, too. >> Oh, okay. She's going to jail, too. >> Yes, ma'am. Hey, how long do you think you can get here? This is a sheriff's office, by the way, Deputy Hotton. >> Oh, no. That's okay. Um, I'm all the way in Sun City. >> I think maybe like 30, 45 minutes then. >> So, yeah. >> Okay. Well, I appreciate you uh helping out like this. >> Yeah. Yeah. No problem. >> All right. We'll see you when you get here then. >> As I'm putting in the car, guys, it's perfectly legal open and smack your kid. >> Oh, all right. I'm going to get going. You good? >> Yep. Yeah. >> Appreciate you. >> I'll make sure I do that. >> Okay. >> Hello. >> Hey. So, when you got out the vehicle, there was a I don't know. I don't know what you want to do with the vehicle, but there's a roach in the passenger side. I mean, driver's side uh thing and a pipe fell for a lot of her when she got out. >> Search the vehicle. >> Yeah, between her legs or something. >> Search the vehicle. >> You got anything in the vehicle? >> No, sir. >> What's up with that pipe? >> That is not mine. >> Fell between your legs right out of the car when you get out. >> It's not mine. >> Oh, you're being charged with it. Right now, you're under arrest for possession paraphernalia, whatever else they find in the vehicle when we search it. >> And for child. >> Child on who? >> On your son. >> My baby is perfect. my oldest child. No, no, no, no, no. I am. >> I I did not I didn't put my hands on him at all. He attacked my husband. Oh my god. >> Okay. Well, your husband's got no injuries and he does. >> This is the second time that this has happened. I restrained Brady. I restrained him. >> You probably took a little bit too far. So, you're going to be under arrest for that. All right. We're done. >> Nikki is his sister. >> Nikki Michael's sister. Yeah. >> We We don't talk to her. We haven't talked to her in years. >> He called her and she's willing to come down. So, >> come down for what? >> To watch him. >> To watch rubber. Your is that your son's name then? Yeah. >> I don't understand what is why I >> when your son has injuries the way he does, you guys took it too far. Okay. >> Why is it you guys? I don't understand why. >> Cuz he punched him in the face and gave him a blue black and blue eye. >> I being arrested >> because you him around the neck caused the scratch. >> Oh, no. >> No. That's not what happened. >> Oh, you can explain to the judge, but you're under arrest for it. And then whatever, like I said, whatever else they find in your car along with pipe that fell out between your legs. >> Wow. >> Yeah. Wow. So daughter asked for stepdad's phone to watch a movie. He said, "No, here's your brother's." Well, he didn't know his phone got taken. And then he said, "Change the passcode to 1 2 3 4." So she did. He found out, got mad. They started fighting, brother and sister. Stepdad took stepson outside, argued. Stepson said, "I live in a household full of made stepdad mad, popped him right in the eye, caus him a nice big shiner." Well, then they started physically fighting. Mom comes out, instead of separating, gets on top of son and starts him around the neck, causing big marks around his neck. And then they force him to go into the bathroom and clean him up. busted nose and everything bleeding profusely. Made him clean himself up and said, "You're not telling anyone this to Yoda daughter to get off the phone. No one needs to hear this or video record none of that." They went to go to Walgreens, whatever it is, the 26th Cortez. Yeah. >> They said, "Put a hat on and keep your face down so no one can see the injuries." Oh, yeah. Dude, it's Yeah. Oh, yeah. >> Oh, wow. >> Yeah. So, I'm so happy we hooked them. Less property goes with you, the better it is for everyone. >> So, she's been she's been playing tricks. >> Playing tricks. My shoulder is >> Yeah. And then I put two handcuffs on you cuz you told me to. He is horrible. He is horrible. He said, >> "He's got little man syndrome." >> The mother and stepfather were arrested for child abuse based on visible facial and neck injuries to the juvenile corroborating statements from witnesses and officer observations indicating physical force was used. Remember, when visible injuries and consistent witness statements are present, law enforcement may act immediately to protect minors and ensure safety. Encouraging children to report concerns and documenting incidents can be critical in investigations involving family violence. This is the reaction of netzens to this situation. The officers handled this carefully and made sure the kids were safe first. It's upsetting to hear how long this has been going on. Good that a family member was able to step in for the child. You think the officers were out of options here? Watch what happens next on the body cam [bell] and tell us if you would have done the same. >> Call us. >> You're okay. She said she she was trying to get her to unlock the door and she left her phone in the theater and she didn't want to run back in to get its but after 30 minutes and over 100°. On July 19th, 2025 in Lake City, Florida, police responded to reports of a young child locked alone in a car in the parking lot of a Regal movie theater after witnesses saw her mother go inside the theater and remain there while the child sat in the vehicle in extreme heat. Officers found the 2-year-old girl visibly distressed, flushed, sweating, and crying with outside temperatures near 94° and broke the driver's side window to remove her. >> Please, bro. >> You got a uh punch. She's been in there for like 30 minutes already. >> You got one? Go ahead. I know, baby. >> Go other side. Other side. Other side. Is that fire is not advised? Fire Em's been in the car for about 30 minutes. Uh vehicle's not running in the heat. Come here, baby. >> Are you serious? 30 minutes, ma'am. >> Hey, come here. >> Why would you wait 30 minutes to call us? >> You're okay. >> I was trying to get her off. >> I know. Come here, baby. >> I didn't have my phone. >> Yeah, you guys can go ahead and go with it. Man, you can hang tight for a second. Talk to this officer right here. He's going to get some information from you. Go. You need to go get her 43. >> Yeah. >> The degree of annoyed she waited 30 minutes >> to call. >> Like what? trying to get her to unlock. >> 30 minutes. >> 30 minutes. >> 30 minutes in the car. >> No AC on. >> No AC, no nothing. >> Why? >> She said she she was trying to get her to unlock the door and she left her phone in the theater and she didn't want to run back in to get it. >> Are you serious? >> So serious right now. >> Is she hot to the touch? >> So EMS is saying she's she's she's good. >> Window. No. >> Uh, don't worry about it. >> But you need to document it. >> Yeah, we will document in the report. >> Yeah. >> And just get us We got her statement already. Can I go around this way and see her? >> I don't know if it's open. You can You want to stay stand? It's not open. They're trying to keep this. There's AC in there. They're trying to keep the air inside cuz she's hot. >> I just wanted to make sure cuz I know I didn't call instantly cuz I was trying to get her to open the door. I didn't have my phone on me. My phone was stuck inside the theater. And >> what do you mean stuck? Like >> like it was inside. I didn't have nobody was out here to help me. Officers challenge the timeline, noting the prolonged exposure to high temperatures and the child's age, nearly 2 years old. They document statements and request the outside temperature for the report. >> What do you mean stuck? Like >> like it was inside. I didn't have nobody was out here to help me like call or anybody. And she was fine. Like she was okay. >> So the theater is open. Why would you not walk up to the window right there and tell them to call 911 for you? cuz I was trying to get her to open the door cuz in the beginning she was fine. She was laughing. She was playing. I was like >> but after 30 minutes in over 100° how do you think that's going to affect her? >> Do you understand what I'm saying? >> Yes. You understand what I'm getting at? >> I understand what you're saying. I understand what you're getting at. But I'm trying to tell you it's never mind. I get her name. Her name Third day of birth now. >> What's your first name? >> My first name is T I P O R. So, Mary Jackson. She So, she's up here at the theater for whatever reason. I'm assuming to watch a movie. She herself in the car. So, instead of and her phone is already inside the theater somehow, but the baby never made it into the theater. So, baby locks herself inside the car. So instead of calling 911 immediately or going to summon help from the window, she tries to get the baby to unlock the door. So baby's not unlocking the door. So she doesn't want to leave the baby to go inside to get her phone to call 911. Doesn't want to walk up to the window to get the concier there to call 911. So EMS confirms the child was in distress and significantly overheated. Officers discuss the seriousness of the situation and the risk posed by leaving a toddler in a non-running vehicle in extreme heat. >> Instead, waits 30 minutes with this child in this not running hot ass car. >> What is she doing for 30 minutes? >> Standing there at the window trying to talk the baby into unlocking the door. >> So, her phone is up there. >> Her phone's in the theater. She has it now, I think. Is that I think No, that might be her wallet. But yeah, >> 30 minutes. talked to EMS. The baby was obviously in distress. The baby was screaming, crying. Baby's hot to the touch. Maybe one 22 >> about to be two. >> I don't know, bro. >> I can't get my four-year-old. >> I CAN'T GET MY FOUR-YEAR-OLD TO UNLOCK the damn door. >> You already got it. >> Yeah, we had to punch the window. Yeah, she's hot. Yeah, she she was >> Yeah, she's she's in the back there working on the truck. >> Yeah, she she was pretty hot. She used to >> do 20 minutes. That's ridiculous. >> Yeah, straight up. Bust a window. Like we got to bust the window like in this car and she's so nonchalant acting like it's nothing. Like her story is making sense to her. She didn't even realize That temperature 20 minutes is what I was going to do right now. >> Yeah. >> Thank you. Screaming at me. >> Yeah. 30 minutes. Maybe in the car. She was trying to get >> Hey, for the report, you want to ask dispatch to get the the current temperature outside to put it in the car mode for you. >> Yeah. >> Officers decide to arrest the mother for child endangerment/ neglect. She is informed she is going to jail and is placed in handcuffs. >> Are they transporting? >> Okay, >> I got to I'm going to have to go. Oh, she go. Absolutely. Absolutely. Can somebody say I get in my truck to go see her? Like what? What you about to do? Who is is this this is your son or whose city he is? >> That's my brother. >> This is your brother? >> Yes. >> Is there another adult here with the car? >> No. >> Okay. >> No. >> Please. No. Not right now. Not right now. About to go ahead and have him hook her up cuz she's getting more educated and I don't want any issues. She's 100% needs to go to jail. What do you think? >> Yeah, we do that. >> You want to go ahead and advise her that she's going to be 10:15 and Yeah. >> Officers confirm the presence of two younger siblings ages 12 and 14 who were also at the location. Arrangements are discussed to ensure their supervision. Go ahead and turn around for me. >> Yeah, go ahead and turn around for me. Go ahead and find your back. Thank you. Gosh. >> Yeah. >> They're going to be going to jail today for challenging anything. >> Okay, that's fine. >> Has anybody been in here and talked to the employees inside yet? >> Not yet. >> Where's the child's father at? We're We're going to We're going to carry you up to the hospital now. >> Okay. Thank you. I just want >> going want to stay here, get some statements, and clear all this up. Where's your phone and stuff? >> Get right. >> Your phone's in your back pocket. Okay. Okay. Let's get you to the hospital. Okay. We'll look in there. Get >> Is there an adult here with you? >> NO, THEY'RE I AM THE ADULT with them. That's what I'm trying to say. There's nobody else here. >> How How old is he? >> He is 12. >> How old is the other person that was over there? >> He's 14. 15. 14. She's 14. >> 14? >> Yes, she's 14. >> We need to get the number. >> They're my siblings. That's my sister and that's my brother. >> Okay. Okay. Okay. >> Theater employees state they observed the mother enter and exit the building multiple times and did not observe panic or attempts to alert staff for help. They estimate the time lapse to be approximately 20 to 30 minutes. We need parents for them other two as well cuz they only 12 12 and 13 or 12 and 14. >> You got your PX on you? >> My personal >> 375 371. >> Can you call 305 PX, please? I don't have my number. >> Call 305 PX, please. >> Hey, so what? So, she brought the baby in or >> So, I did not witness any of it, but I asked them if they saw anything and so they did say that they saw some stuff. So, >> I'm assuming they were watching the movie. They came out to the lobby kind of deal. The kid was >> kind of like walking around the lobby and stuff. So, I noticed that she brought a kid outside. She came back in. >> She brought she came outside again, but I wasn't aware if she like came back in or not again. >> So, when she came out, she had the baby with her. >> Mhm. And you did she come back in with the baby or was the baby >> first time? No, she came back in again, not with the baby at all. >> Okay. Did she ever say anything to y'all? >> Never mentioned like >> she didn't she didn't notice us at all. Like kind of she >> Okay. Did she look like she was in a panic or anything like that? Didn't look like she was in any type of distress. Were the other children, the other kids, those two older ones, were they with y'all when that happened? >> No. >> Were with her when that happened? I'm sorry. They were not. Were they still in the movie or >> I do not just don't recall seeing them? saw the boy in the green shorts walk out like twice and but didn't see a child >> and none of them said >> none of them said anything to us. They kind of just were walking in and out a couple times. Like I saw them standing next to the car and I'm thinking it looked from where I was it looked like the windows down. They were just chit cchatting with whoever was in the vehicle. So like I'm thinking nothing of it cuz that happens all the time. So >> what was the time frame there? >> Um that would have been about 30 minutes ago that I saw the boy walking in and out. Mom, >> when was the last time you seen the child? >> Her she walked out with the child. >> I going to guess 20, 30 minutes. I don't know. >> Well, probably what she said about 30 minute timelapse. The baby was and the baby was already hot to the touch. So, >> she had been there for >> a baby inside the the movie theater and she sent her brother out here back. >> The 18-year-old mother is arrested and booked into the Columbia County Jail on a charge of child neglect. bond is reported at $50,000. Remember, even moderate outside temperatures can rapidly create life-threatening conditions inside a parked car, especially for young children. If a child is locked in a vehicle, immediately call 911 or seek assistance from nearby adults or businesses without delay. This is the reaction of netzens to this situation. Breaking the window probably saved that baby's life. There's no excuse for waiting 30 minutes in that heat. Glad witnesses stepped in and called for help. The tension is already high. Or so it seems. What the body cam captures [music] next saves a life pause and comment what you do here. >> My bra. >> Honey, why are you crying? >> I'm coming because we got >> I know. And she came out of the car immediately. Insurance. Insurance. >> I need you to follow this. >> I am. >> On August 24th, 2024, officers responded to a vehicle accident on the highway following a report of a woman driving through a stop sign with her toddler son in the car. The woman claimed her brakes were faulty, which led to her colliding with another vehicle. Oh, I know. Listen, >> I just came up on the scene. I'm a nurse, so I just want to check him out. He was belted, a little one in the back. We just unbuckled them to get them off the road. >> Yeah. If you don't win us, you're good to go. >> Okay. >> What happened? >> I was coming. >> I seen them not slowing down and I couldn't hit the brakes soon enough and they just blew straight through the stop sign and I smacked them right on like the instead of like a direct t-bone. >> So, you were coming northbound. >> I was coming this way. They were coming here and their baby was over there. So, I hit them like right on like the corner. >> This is my friend. >> My name's Austin. >> Um, I was going to stop at the stop sign. I was having a hard time breaking because I don't know for how long how many months I've been saying my bra. >> The woman confirms only she and her toddler were in the car. A bystander with medical experience checks on the child who appears alert. The woman [snorts] later claims possible hand pain. >> Whether it's in the snow, whether it's in the rain, whether it's just they're hard to break. >> You want to sit on the seat of the spot? >> I was trying my best. I work in uh Millersburg at a um like nursing home and rehabilitation center point. >> Okay. >> Do you care who chose the car? >> I mean it doesn't matter to me as I got >> there's full coverage on it. >> Officers gather insurance details and confirm the child was secured in a car seat. The woman says she takes prescribed anxiety medication but denies alcohol use. >> I don't know. I really don't. I don't know. >> All right. I'll just call next available roll back if you all right off our list and we'll let you know who's going to have it and everything. All right. >> Yeah. >> Okay. You care who chose the car? >> Anyone specifically your insurance? >> Um I don't know. My mom's on her way. She knows more about >> I don't think. >> All right. You're not at fault. So >> Okay. >> It's going to be on her insurance. I'm just going to call next roll back if you're all right. >> And then is the squad leaving or are they staying around for a minute? They'll stick around if you need them to. You want to get checked out? >> I think I broke my hand, >> but I'm waiting for my mom to get here so we can get a car seat from her for him. Honey, why are you crying? >> Because we got >> I know. But are you okay? >> You're okay, honey? >> I know. >> I know, honey. >> Insurance if you have it. What side was he on? He was on driver. >> My name is Brit. Nice to meet you, buddy. >> Are you guys having vital signs checked or anything? Or >> I want him checked out. I think I broke my hand in the process of all of that. I can't move my fingers. >> Okay. >> Yeah. With him. Is he acting normal? I mean, >> he's Yeah, he's acting normal. I still want to take him to the emergency room just to get him checked off. >> Due to her behavior and statements, an officer conducts field sobriety tests to determine possible impairment. They wanted this other car wasn't drinking right. She said her brakes weren't working and she came out of the car immediately. Insurance. Insurance. Logan's like, "Who [ __ ] us?" I'm just um uneasy and unusually aware at this point in time because adrenaline's running and I just got in a car accident and I haven't had a cigarette for a while, but other than that, yeah, I'm good. >> All right. You haven't been drinking or anything? >> No, I have not. I just got off of work and we went to pick up medicine and some food at Walmart, come back home. >> Use any medication. What's up? >> I take that in the morning and I take that for anxiety and it can be for depression, but it's mostly anxiety. >> Nothing else. >> Nothing else at all? >> No. >> Can you come back here with me for a minute? And you're going to count out loud. >> Okay. >> I'm going to demonstrate it for you. When I demonstrate, I'm going to take three steps. When you you're going to take nine. >> Okay. >> All right. >> Turn around. >> Just like I demonstrated. >> Okay. >> All right. Go ahead and turn around. Face my patrol car. All right. Feet together, arms out to your side. You're going to raise one foot approximately 6 in off the ground. And you're going to look down your race foot. And you're going to count out loud. 1,00 1,002. I need to talk with my insurance anyways. I'm not going to jail. >> Her mother arrives and takes custody of the toddler. Officers confirm the vehicle registration and explain the arrest >> until insurance has been exchanged. >> Can you take a write down your insurance on a crash report and give it to them? They'll get your insurance. And nobody said anything about going to jail. Okay. >> I didn't say nothing about going to jail neither. >> Yeah, you did. You said you're not going to jail till they get your insurance. And I you don't have to go to jail. That's not my intention tonight. All right. So, unless you're doing something crazy, you're probably not going to go to jail. I'm just saying. All right. Can you step in front of my camera for me? >> Well, I need the information over all that stuff as far as when I got to pay for the all that information. >> Can you step back here for me? >> It'll be on the crash. No, it won't. I'd rather get it from the person right there. >> Yeah. I've handled thousands of crashes. I know what I'm doing. All it's all going to be on the crash report. They'll get it. I promise. Can you stand right here and face my light? That little red blinking light. Do you have anything on you I need to know about? >> No. >> Can you come right back here to the side of my car? You need to take care of your credit cards that you have and then you'll be able to get approved and be able to get this uh condo. >> Okay. So, was this just a verbal argument between the two? >> Verbal. And I just got home. I literally just pulled up and she's like, "You can't come on. If you put your hands on me, you need to calm me down because this is going too far. I have way too much to lose because of your your little you know what I mean?" She calmed down, stepped back, and said, "I'm scratching. I have scratched." And I said, "Oella, I do not want to call 911, but if you continue, I will have to call 911 because at this point, I don't know what to do. I need to just go to sleep." And that's what I told her. The last words that I told her before you guys were called was, "I need to go to sleep. I'll leave it alone. I won't call 911. I don't want you here. You think you're going to be out all night and you're going to come home and sleep here?" But then again, I'm paying the bills. With all due respect, sir, I'm doing everything I can to pay the bills right now. me catering and me being a realtor is not doing it right now. Food cost and the way that we are >> what happened after that. >> She just doesn't like me working. I bartend over here and she doesn't like that. She doesn't like that I come home. She's like I smell when I come home this and that. It was just because I came home. I was on FaceTime actually when she attacked me. I had the FaceTime. I put the FaceTime there. I said one moment. Watch. I literally have a witness for everything that happened. You see it? >> I can call him. >> It was him. >> My ex. >> Okay. >> Okay. So, what happened next? >> Just her being crazy. But other than that, we both got away. I called 911 and then she said she was calling 911. So, she stayed away from me after that. After the whole closet incident where she pushed me in the closet in my room, that was it. Nothing again. She did not like struck me or anything. She came at me, grabbed my >> Then how come you said on one got slapped in the face? Well, she was coming at me. Deputies observe a scratch on the grandmother's chin and an abrasion on her hand. >> Son, my four-year-old, I have video. You can hear it for yourself in case you guys want to hear it before you leave. I have it on my business phone. Recordings of her going off on my four-year-old son. I have the video in case you need it. >> Right there. Struggling to keep it going. And that's another thing. I sat down. I've been home for 3 hours. I had a drink. I was supposed to be sleeping. She came in my room. Oh, I'm sorry. >> Oh my god. >> I should be sleeping right now. >> You guys live together? >> Yes. It's only been 2 months. We've only been together for two months. You can check my paperwork. I literally just moved out of my I had to pay $4,000 to move out of my apartment. $2,000 a month first and last. You can look that up. $4,000 just to move into here to to take care of her. My friends, you know what I mean? >> Not this. This is I have the video. You guys can hear the videos of her and the way that she treated my son. I never thought that it would get this. >> Does your son not? I think that's what she said. That's exactly what I have it on video. That video. That phone right there. And then she says, "Oh, so uh what do you do? Do you have a chip on that bunny? You can hear it on the video." She says, "ASPCA. I'm taking that bunny right now." That's how like she gets. And you can hear it on the video right there. Take bomb. Take phone. Hear it. Boom. But whatever you got to do. But man, let me tell you, this is not the first time that this has happened. It just has not happened to this degree. And I was not expecting it to happen to this. And at this point, I'm just coming for you to tell. I have a meeting at 9:00 a.m. I have a lunch in at 11:30. Like, I just don't understand the way her brain works. >> Deputies question inconsistencies and visible marks on the grandmother. Do you have any marks on you? >> Can you close your eyes, please? >> Okay. >> She she's calming down now. >> No, but she's giving me a different version of what you did. >> My question is why does she have marks? Marks where? >> Uh, she has a mark on her face and she has a mark on her hand. >> Marks where though? Like marks as far as what? What are we talking? >> Marks on her. >> Marks like what? Can we see her in front of her and ask her what the marks are from? >> Okay, go ahead and turn around for me, please. >> At this point, you're being placed under arrest for domestic battery. >> What? >> Okay. During a search incident, two arrest deputies find a large quantity of marijuana in the granddaughter's purse. She claims it belongs to her grandmother and says she is in the process of getting a medical card. Do you want to talk to me? >> Okay. Why do you have so much money in your purse? >> It's mine. It's all mine. And I was >> So you have this for personal use? >> It's mine. >> Okay. >> Nobody else. >> No, I got it all out of the house cuz it was mine. >> Who did you get it from? >> Does she get it legally? >> She gave it to me. >> So you're saying your grandmother gave you? Yes. >> When did your grandmother give him? >> She just gave it to him. She just went to the store on it. >> When? >> This week. What's What's insum? What's today? Tuesday. Monday. >> Today is >> last week. >> Now Monday. >> She gave to me last week. >> How much did she give to you? >> 2 oz. She gave me >> So, I wanted to let you know you're being charged with domestic battery on your grandmother. And by the way, she's 67 years old, so it's going to be a felony. Okay. And also this amount of that you're carrying. You don't have a medical card, do you? >> I'm in the process of getting one. >> Deputies question the grandmother who confirms she has a valid medical marijuana card and denies giving the granddaughter the marijuana. >> My question is, did you give her the marijuana? >> Because that's what she's alleging. >> I have my medical card. >> I know. The package is in the house by the door. One of the neighbors came to the door and I didn't come to the door. I just talked to him through the wall and I told him that my husband would take the package to the leasing office. Today we got another package while I was at work. So, it's next to the other package. They're both not opened or anything and it says eating 15 and we're eating 39. So, my husband just picked him up from school and came to get me to take us to get lunch. And this Mexican Hispanic lady comes walking to my door. Right when I'm about to close it, she grabs it open and she's like, "You need to go in the house and get my package right now or you're going to jail for a felony." And I'm like, "Excuse me, ma'am. I already told whoever came to the door yesterday that your package will be at the leasing office. I'm not going back into the house and getting anything." And then she starts yelling and cursing. And I told her, "Can you please back away from the van? Like my kids are in the car." And she's like, "No, I'm not doing anything until you go in the house and get my package or I'm going to be evicted." I said, "Well, your package will be at the leasing office." So, I tried to get in the car and close the door and she just starts pepper spraying all in the car and pepper spraying me and I said, "You're crazy." And I went in the house and I said, "I'm calling 911 because at first she said she was going to call the police." So, I said, "Well, go ahead." >> She admits she also used her own pepper spray in response >> yesterday and asked them and they said that they returned it to that office down there. So, I go today. And they said, "No, no woman's came here and they just came through to check on me. They're coming to bring me water. They can tell you the same thing I just said. And this is my fault. I came cuz I know that it's them at 39E. I have a picture on Amazon of, you know, that's where it's it's my fault." I confronted them. I I knocked on the door. I said, "Hey, you guys," why didn't knock on the door? They were getting their car. I said, "Hey, you guys have my package. Please, can I just have it back? I need it to work to pay rent." And she got out of the car really mad and aggressive and she's like, "You didn't ask me nicely enough." And she's like, "I'm going to go get you a package cuz you didn't ask me nicely enough." And I said, "Ma'am, please leave me alone." And she was being all aggressive enough in my face. And he's a big man. They were like coming at me. I'm between these cars. I was scared. She pepper- sprayed me. I pepper- sprayed her. And the kids were behind us in the car and they got the spray both the spray cuz he You guys confiscated my pepper spray. She has one, too. You would have been if you steal my mail." >> And then they got the kids out of the car. Thank God. We didn't want to spray the kids, both of us. They were just behind us and got like >> All right. >> And then I was And then I was leaving and then he punched me behind the ear really hard and he knocked me down. >> The neighbor confirms she pepper- sprayed the woman back after being sprayed. She [snorts] says the children were unintentionally exposed because they were behind the adults near the vehicle. She was It was this hand.
