Like I said, >> I hurt your baby. Come here, sweet. You're catching a felony for battering a cop, you dumb. >> The situation was tense. The adults were unpredictable and the children's behavior raised immediate concern. What officers were seeing pointed to a deeply disturbing situation, one that went far beyond a routine response. >> And I'm asking, is that this is that the case? >> Let's put all the blame on >> [ __ ] >> This is when hero cops walk into an extremely disturbing home. Here is Law Zone, where features real police body cam footage documenting how officers handle tense and unpredictable situations as they happen. The first incident is that police rescue child from dangerously irresponsible mother. >> Do you know where you think you might live? >> Yeah. >> You want to show me? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. I was upstairs sleep. My brother just left, so he must have opened up the door. I don't even know. [music] >> On November 3rd, 2024 in Watertown, New York, a school bus driver found the child two blocks from home. Police later confirmed the mother was unaware the child had been missing for over 40 minutes. >> Walking around helping. >> Hi dear. >> How are you? >> Oh, I'm good. How are you? >> Okay. your place with me, baby. >> Help us find your home. >> Hi. >> Sound awesome. >> Yeah. >> You want to make sure you get home? >> Yeah. >> Hey, >> do you do you know where you think you might live? >> Yeah. >> You want to show me? >> Yeah. >> All right. Come on. Let's go. >> You You show me. Now we're going to keep the hat. >> Pardon? >> Yeah. >> Where'd you find her? >> Right here. She's actually following a gentleman and he stopped me. >> And so from that direction, I'm going to move my bag. Okay. I'll let you sit up front with me. Let me move my bag for you. Okay. You sit right there. Here, I'm going to move this bag real quick. Okay. >> Officers canvas the area, identify the likely residents, and make contact with family members who confirm the mother is upstairs asleep. >> Accelerate vehicles. I'll be in route. >> I'm going to shut the door. Okay. >> Where's mommy? >> I don't know. >> You don't know. >> Mommy's sleeping. >> Mommy's sleeping. >> Okay. >> Hey, what? >> I didn't say anything. >> Hey. >> Hey. >> Look at my shoes. >> Let me hold this. I can't see. >> I do by myself. >> Okay. Well, I got I got to work on my thing. I got I got to work on my computer. I got to see >> Wait, wait. I'm trying to find your name in here. >> What? >> I'm trying to find your name. >> All right. >> What? >> You guys know her? >> Yeah. >> Does she live here? Yeah. >> All right. Where's mom at? >> Um, she's sleeping right now. >> Can you wake her up for me, please? >> Believe I have her address located at 715 Land. >> Police escort the child back home and confront the mother who states she had been sleeping and believes her brother may have left the door open. >> You're her sister. >> That's your sister. Hold on. I got to unbuckle. I got to unbuckle. >> There you go. >> Can I jump? Big jump. Big jump. Good job. >> I didn't take my jack off. >> You going to take your Well, let's wait for you to get inside. >> Hello. Yes. Why is you outside? >> Been outside for about an hour. >> Why? [sighs] >> Let's go inside. Let's go inside, Ariana. [ __ ] >> crazy. >> Let's go inside. >> No. No. Not playing. Every All these doors is getting locked now. Yeah, >> I gather from her that you were upstairs sleeping. >> Yeah, I was upstairs sleep. My brother just left, so he must have opened up the door. I don't even know. >> Your brother just left. Where did When did he leave? >> I don't know. Just he got the headphones up. >> Officers inspect the home, discuss how multiple doors were left unsecured. And [snorts] note that several adults were present, but no one was actively supervising the child. >> And he leaves the door cracked up open. Okay. Easy. He got a phone. >> No, he don't got no phone. >> He doesn't have a phone or anything? >> No. >> Just letting her know that I She was walking around helping. >> Hi, dear. Located him. >> Okay. >> Thank you. >> Um, how old your brother? >> 30. >> 30? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Was he supposed to be watching the kids or >> No, we all upstairs. So, >> who all upstairs? Do you mind if I come upstairs? >> Me, my brother, and um No, me, my brother, and my other kids. >> Do you mind if I come upstairs with you? >> Come on, hurry up. Let's go. The [ __ ] door [ __ ] closed. [ __ ] don't make no [ __ ] sense. >> Wow. >> [ __ ] is [ __ ] crazy. outside for a whole [ __ ] hour. All right. >> I thought you was upstairs. I just got here. >> Door [ __ ] opening every [ __ ] thing. >> Hello. All my doors is getting locked now. Not [ __ ] playing. Every last one. One, two, and three. >> She did say she went through a lot of doors. >> Couldn't it be? Cuz the She don't even know how to open the middle door. The middle door is open downstairs. >> Well, still she still would have went through them, I guess. >> Um, >> no, she don't know how to open up that third one. >> Well, no, I'm just saying she said she went through them, not necessarily open because they was open. >> Yeah. Um, >> cuz she don't know how to open up them doors. Like when we go to school, she tries to open them. She does not open them. That's why y need to keep all the [ __ ] doors closed. What are you doing outside? >> I'm glad that they were I'm glad they saw her out the window cuz I was riding around looking for somebody. >> I've been I've been over here. >> So, bus driver found her walking that direction >> about you crazy >> uh 2:55. I got over here about 3:00 and I've been >> officers explain that the child was found heading toward a school area and emphasize how easily the situation could have turned dangerous. >> And I've been riding around trying to find uh cuz every every time I ask her where she lives, she's go, "Yeah, >> I >> no don't leave don't leave this house again. And everybody keep the doors closed. All three doors. >> Oh, don't mess with that one. Can't >> that makes >> now >> go sit down that way. Go over there. >> Okay. >> All right. >> Oh, so obviously we got an issue with it's been an hour. >> Mhm. >> Um thankfully [music] bus it was it was right around school letting out. So, a bus driver was able to kind of scoop her up. She said she was going to go visit her teacher. Does she go to school? >> Yeah, she goes down the street. >> Down the street. >> She at North or Starbucks? Okay. >> Conflicting explanations are given by adults in the home regarding who left the doors open and who was responsible at the times. >> She says she was headed there to go see her teacher. Um, you guys were up here sleeping. >> Yeah, I was asleep. >> You were sleeping? >> Mhm. >> Okay. You just got here, correct? >> All right. Um, you said >> you said your brother was here but must have left. Are you you're not the brother? >> No. >> Okay. >> All right. Um, okay. Do you know when your brother's going to be back by chance? >> No, he's sitting right there. He probably not going to say anything. Say right there. >> Oh, he's right. He's right there. Okay. >> All right. Oh, and then you were asleep, right? So, did he know you were asleep? >> Yeah, everybody's here. Everybody's sleep. The door just got left open. >> She's She's all right. She's all right. >> Still nothing in the house. >> Nothing at all time. >> Nothing. It's not playtime at all. >> You got You got You got to listen. You got to listen. You got to go listen. >> Frustrated. Go that way. You got to go listen. You got to listen. >> Not playing. >> You could cry all you want to. >> And do you normally keep the doors locked? >> Yeah. Yeah, the doors always like somebody already opened up the door. That's what I'm like. >> Okay. Were the other kids at school? >> What time? Yeah, the other kids was at school. >> What time did they get home? >> They all leave at 2:55. That's why I'm like, if they seen them, that's why I'm like, how she was out there for an hour. If it was like 2:55 cuz I just went to sleep. She was up here. So, I'm like an hour. I probably don't think it was a hour hour. All right. the art. We got we got called at 2:55 and it's almost it's 3:55 now. So, not quite not quite not quite an hour, but you know what I mean. You know what? >> Yeah. So, she just left when everybody went to go get get out of school. >> We're over over 30 minutes anyway. And that's that's thankfully the bus driver saw her and not somebody else that wanted to do her harm. You got >> officers clarify legal responsibility, stating that leaving a three-year-old unsupervised for over 30 to 45 minutes constitutes a serious safety issue. >> What happened? >> You called me. >> Kid got off. >> Nia, they want to get your information cuz she left the house. >> Somebody else going to have to give it to them. Just give it to them. I'mma step outside. What happened? >> Cuz she left the house. All the doors get locked now. Never. >> We're going to hold up before you walk out. All right. >> Because responsible adults here let a three-year-old child go for over a half hour. Yeah. >> Okay. And I got to And well, because someone's getting arrested. That's why. >> Who's getting arrested? >> I'm going to break it down like that. Somebody >> I left. I don't care about that. I'mma walk outside. I went to go pick my daughters up. And if you and if and if you left the doors open and you were the only responsible party that was awake, you left all the kids here by themselves unattended because she was asleep. >> No, I >> Yes, that's what >> we don't know if you left We don't know who left the door open. >> My brother explained to you cuz I'm going to walk right out that door. So, I need you to move out the way. When I had went to go get the kids, remember when I walked by, the doors were open already. So, when I came up like when I came up the stairs, I wasn't even I thought she was still in school. You know what I'm saying? So, when I had went out the doors, of course, I closed both doors. So, when I had left, I actually thought I might have had saw her, but it didn't really focus in my mind like that because she shouldn't be leaving the house like that anyways. You know what I'm saying? >> So, you think you may have saw her outside? >> Yeah. So, so look, if I would have took if I would have stayed on the crosswalk and kept on walking, I would have actually saw her. You know what I'm saying? Then I'd have been like, "Yo, what the hell?" But I had went on the side of the bus, you know? >> Yeah. Let him go because I'm about to go to jail. >> Hold on. >> Said you're going to jail. Just didn't say that. >> Somebody's about to go to jail. >> So I'm about to get the fall. >> So I'm about to take the fall cuz period. >> It's not taking a fall. Just ask them before I walk out the door. Have nothing. [laughter] Here's the deal. I don't know who I'm not trying to arrest a person. That's not >> But it could be it could. But listen, it don't matter. somebody. We don't know who who responsible. That's what we're telling you right now. Who left the doors open? >> I can investigate. I'm pretty sure that the door was closed and she opened it. You know what I'm saying? >> Yeah. But it's that middle door that she can't open. So that middle door [clears throat] need to be closed and locked, >> right? But that's not the only thing. Now be quiet. Everybody be quiet. >> Child protective services. CPS involvement is explained. Officers recommend door alarms, clear supervision plans, and that at least one adult remain awake when the child is home. >> Jessica, because this situation could have been [ __ ] worse. Now, shut up. >> You're absolutely right. Now, be quiet. >> You're not going to tell me nothing to do with it. >> You do have something to do with it. >> No, I don't. We could walk outside. >> You were a responsible party. We don't know. >> No, not my kid. And I'm not no responsible party here. >> You're not going to get >> No, he's not. No, he's not. My brother was thinking when I had walked outside, right? When I had walked outside to go, I did see her bottle >> right right there by the couch. You know what I'm saying? But it's not thinking to me that, oh, she left outside because she's supposed to be in the house. You know what I'm saying? So, when I walked outside to go get the uh go get my daughter, she must have [music] left 20 minutes prior. >> They said 2:55. Yeah. That's when they called. That's when the kids got released from school. >> Yeah. Like around that time. Yeah. >> So when I did think that I had >> when you went to go pick my when you went to go pick my >> supervisors confirm the incident will be handled through CPS. A safety plan is outlined rather than immediate removal. >> And if you if she's home and all the other kids are gone, somebody has to be awake to supervise her. >> No, she's this I'm not worried about. She takes a nap. >> No, she takes a nap. It's going to be her. She's going to have to go upstairs and watch TV cuz there's a door for upstairs. But she does. She takes when she when I go take a nap, she takes a nap. >> Okay. >> She was supposed to be watching TV. >> With CPS, if you're sleeping, if anyone's sleeping, it's not supervised. So, if you can have someone be awake while you take a nap, that would be ideal. >> He's always here. He just had an appointment. He's always here. This the kids's father, so he's always here when when I go to sleep. Well, it seems like a clear lack of communication today. It happens. I get that. But 45 minutes is a long time. That's why we're all concerned about it. She's adorable, too. Such cute kids. >> Beautiful. >> She woke up when I woke up. [music] >> And I think your case with Kim is still open. We are all kinds of behind. All of us are. So, she'll get in touch with you likely tomorrow and it'll just go with her case. You'll have that same worker. And you gave me her card. I'm going to give that back to you. >> Okay. >> There you are. Yeah. You're welcome. Okay. I think that's all for me right now. Can I have a really fast? >> All right. >> All right. >> 7:30 Sunday. >> The mother becomes argumentative after being charged. Officers issue court paperwork. >> 7:30. Okay. You're welcome. Thank you, too. Appreciate it. Even all the headache. >> All right. >> Thank you. >> You're welcome. So, what' you say? >> I said, "That's right. You don't care about your kids." >> Why do I care about my kids? This is my first time. So, how do I know? >> You just sat there and told me you had many cases out there. any I just looked it up. Y'all just came to my house. It just happened to me. So, of course, I did my research. What are you talking about? >> Okay. [music] >> Yes, >> that's fine. >> Yes. You think all black people stupid? No. >> No, I don't think that at all. >> Yeah, we know our laws. >> Yeah. >> Stuff right. >> That's why it's going to get dropped. >> That's fine. >> You going to be happy about that, right? Cuz y'all thought y'all got a case. What about these cases where these kids be in the basement and stuff? Yeah. Mhm. Yeah. Kids being kidnapped. You got the wrong parent. I take care of my kids very well. >> Yep. That's why your kid was in a hotel room with one time two soldiers this month yesterday morning. >> And kids going to do what they want to do >> at the end of day 10. >> So what's your problem? >> I don't have a problem. >> What's your problem? Cuz you ain't never act out as a teenager. >> That's That's what you ain't never act out as a teenager. As a kid, you ain't never act out. So you trying to call me a bad parent cuz my teenage and I got discipline for the stuff that I did. >> It's okay though cuz my my kid will identify the police that was talking about my case. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Talk to the lawyer and I will be getting one. How y'all talking about the case on another situation? >> Get get your lawyer. That's fine. >> You think people broke. >> You honestly don't care that your child was walking around. >> She's not broke. She was. She was. She was talking about your three-year-old. She was walking around. >> I did though. I did though. I did. Do you pay my bills? Do you take care of my child? >> I need your fingerprints. I need you step over here. We're going to stop arguing. >> Yeah, you're going to cuz you're not going to keep on doing that. Right. For >> hurry up. You're not going to keep on doing that. >> Antagonizing like I don't >> I'm not antagonizing anybody. You're antagonizing. >> No, I'm not. Waring it up ain't nothing, honey. >> That's law at the end of the day. >> Okay. >> I already told you I was coming down here for that so I could laugh in your [ __ ] face. >> Okay. in the long run. >> All right, then. >> Yeah, >> that's fine. Here you go. Have court date on the 22nd of November 9:00 a.m. City Court. >> Get ready to get dropped. >> Sure. You do you think you do whatever you think you can. >> I am. I got the money. >> Take a right. >> I got the money. Okay. >> My tax dollars pay yours. >> Okay. My tax dollars pay mine, too. >> Okay. That's too. >> Sure. >> M do >> If you think that if you think that you're able to, then you go right ahead. >> Yeah. Yeah. I got the money. >> Sure thing. >> If y'all got lawyers, we got lawyers. >> All righty. >> All right. >> Worry about your kids. Don't worry about mine. >> All right. Well, if you worried about yours, I wouldn't have to worry about yours. Yeah, [ __ ] off. >> Thank you. >> The 33-year-old mother was charged with endangering the welfare of a child following her arrest and booked into the Jefferson County Jail. No bond information was provided as she awaited further court proceedings. Remember, even short lapses in supervision can place very young children in serious danger, especially in residential areas near roads. When multiple adults are present, clear communication about who is supervising is critical to child safety. This is the reaction of netzens to this situation. That bus driver probably saved that kid's life. Way too many adults, but no one is watching the child. Glad police focused on prevention before something worse happened. Think this situation was already intense. The body cam catches a split-second decision. [bell] That changes everything. Comment if you saw it coming. The next incident is when police find babies left alone while parents go gamble. >> Understand why you be detained? >> Okay. Where's the children? >> Can't leave your child unattended. >> No, I was just walking >> to go play video games. So he came first, he drove or walked. >> He drove. >> Okay. So then you the kids were still sleeping, so you decided to walk over here. >> So I came home. >> On July 5th, 2022, hotel staff heard two very young dependents crying alone in a hotel room and contacted authorities after receiving no response from inside. >> I'm asking is that this is that the case? Let's put all the blame on. >> Hello, how are you? I'm the manager. My name is Sarah. It's nice to meet you. >> Is everything okay? >> Who are this lady right here? >> And him. >> Me? >> Yep. Are you with him? >> Yes. >> Your kids in the hotel across the street? >> Yes. >> Around. Put your water down. >> Wow. >> Yeah. >> Put your water down. >> Put your water down. I don't know about you play. [music] I'm sorry. >> Don't male female. >> This car over here. >> Yeah. Yeah, I know. >> I'm going to put her in a back. One adult questions the necessity of detention. Deputies state that minors cannot be left unattended and [snorts] proceed with safety checks and placement in patrol vehicles. >> Come on, >> sir. Can I check on my baby? >> They're fine. I have an ambulance. Another deputy's over there. Let's go walk to my car. >> This is really necessary. >> Yes, it is 100%. Can't leave your child unattended. >> No, I was just walking >> to go play video games. >> No, no, no. But as you see, as you was walking in, I was going back. It doesn't matter. Housekeeping found him. >> 127 123. Can you get around out here? Email search. Do >> you have anything on you that's going to poke me, stick me, stab me, bombs, guns, knives? >> Okay. Have a seat in my car. >> I'll take your phone. Where's your phone? In your pocket. Here. >> My right pocket. >> In your right pocket. Have a seat in the car for me. >> All the way in. Are you with them? >> Sir. >> Sir, stand up for me. >> Okay. Put Turn Don't do anything silly. Put your hands behind your back. Put them together like you're clapping. Put them together like you're clapping. Like this. Like that. Like this. Yep. Right there. Please do not resist. Okay. All right. >> There's a whole crew outside. Officers coordinate next steps, identify the vehicle, and discuss notifying child welfare services while keeping the adults separated. [music] >> I'll get you another set. Okay. You understand why you need the team? Okay. Where's the children? >> Where's your children? [music] >> Yeah. Come on. Walk. >> This car. Is this your car right here? Yes. That's it. This is theirs. >> Yeah. Yeah. I know. Um, let's just keep them together or keep them right there. Let's get um when Pierce gets here. >> Deputies read writes and question the adult male about who was responsible for supervision. He repeatedly states he will accept responsibility without providing details. >> We need to call um DCF and all that. >> Okay. Can you please call my brother please? >> Maybe we can try that. But we got we got problems, man. >> You understand why you're being detained? >> No, sir. >> Okay. Okay, I'm going to read your rights in order to speak with you. Okay. >> What's your name, sir? >> Uh, my name is Aaron Do, sir. >> Okay. You have the right to remain silent. Do you understand that? >> Children that uh don't tell >> who's watching that. >> You just left them there, huh? You left the children there. I >> mean, they're there, man. I mean, we're we're with them. So, I'm just looking for some explanation. Look, just just put all the blame on me or whatever you got to do, sir. >> Well, there's two of you and Yes, sir. >> You guys decide to come down here and gamble and the children are in the >> I mean, I'm I'm just asking. >> I don't care who the blame is on. I'm asking is that this is that the case? >> Just put all the blame on me. I don't want her nothing to happen to her or my kids. >> I understand and I'm we can work on all that. I have to get I have to understand though what is going on. You can't just say blame everything on me and let's go home. Like I need to understand what's going on. So So who is in charge of watching the children? >> Put Just put blame on me, sir. >> Is anybody assigned to watch the children? Did you have a babysitter? >> Let's put the blame on me, sir. >> Officers seek clarification through staff and camera footage. Staff indicate the male arrived first and the female arrived later. >> You're not That's not a valid answer to the question. Okay, take her out of it. I'm talking me and you. Who was left? record, sir. Like, I don't want >> Nobody says she has to go to jail. I'm I'm trying. We have an investigation. You're both detained and I've read your rights. That's all we're at right now. >> So, I need to understand who was in charge of watching the children. >> Sir, just put the blame on me. >> Okay. So, you were >> So, you told her that let's go gamble. >> I just I didn't say nothing to nobody, sir. I I >> So, how did you leave the room with the kid still in the room? >> You made a conscious decision to do that? You I'm not talking about her. I'm talking about you. I'm not. Look, I just want the blame on me cuz I don't want her to get in trouble. >> Okay. Okay. So, that's >> She don't I don't She don't deserve to be in jail. >> I understand. All right. That still doesn't answer my question. >> She doesn't deserve to be in jail. >> Okay. So, you made the decision to leave the children in the room. >> I didn't. >> You both left the room together. You came down here to Campbell. That's pretty obvious. Was there anybody that was supposed to be in the room to babysit the children? >> Look, I'm going to get a lawyer. >> Okay. They can check the cameras, >> okay, >> and see what what all transpired, who came in by the self and everything, you know. I know what I did, you know. And >> what's your name, guy? >> My name is D. >> Call it L A R. Last name O Y. Hold him. You got him. He's in charge. Let me let me call you back. >> Step inside. >> Did they arrive together? Do you remember? >> No. >> He did. >> He came first. >> He came first by himself. >> Yes. >> And she drove in the car. Did he walk? Do you remember? Do you have cameras? >> Yeah, we got cameras. I got your car. My boss is going to send you all that. Okay. >> I don't know how they got here because I don't see outside. >> Is there any cameras outside? >> There's only one. I don't know what that shows, but he um >> It should show how many. Yeah, I'm sitting right now. Um, >> so I mirandized him. He gave me like the himh hum around that I I'll take all the blame. I'll take all the blame. I'll take all the blame. Owner is working on the cameras. Uh, according to staff, he walked in first, started playing. He referred her on the paper. She came in about 15 minutes later. I I'm working on the the video. The car is parked right under the camera. So, we should see if they get here together. Um, >> deputies confirm child welfare notification and that hotel staff are temporarily with the minors while the investigation continues. >> I was like, he was supposed to watch a kid. I'll take all the blame. You want to tell me I'm going toize her right now and try to talk to her. >> So, um, name >> Yeah, he's got his ID. Let me do that. Yep. We'll get all that. What about DCF? >> I got to get all the kids, man. I got I wanted to just get this. >> I think they're going to have to come though. You know what I'm saying? >> Yeah, they're going to have to >> Who's got the kids now? Uh >> 1280. Uh the housekeepers. >> Okay. So, what I'm saying I'mma get the the DCF horn going just to because it's going to be a responsive to come out and take >> it. Sam, what's your name, ma'am? >> Okay. I have to read your rights cuz you're in custody. Okay. You have the right to remain silent. You understand? school against everything. I stand for came to Florida to be the Sunday school team of two. >> I understand everything. >> Let me just let me just speak to you. You have the right to remain silent. Do you understand? Okay. Anything you say can be against you in the court of law. Do you understand? >> That's gas. You're shaking your head. Yeah. My camera's on. Okay. You have the right to talk to lawyer and have your lawyer present with you while being questioned. Do you understand? If you cannot afford to hire a lawyer, one will be appointed to represent you before questioning. Do you understand? You decide to answer questions now without a lawyer present. You still have the right to stop answering at any time and speak with a lawyer. Do you understand? You may use any of these rights at any time during the interview. Do you understand these rights I read to you? Okay. So, what do you mean? You came to Florida to be a receipt of school. >> You moved from Illinois. >> Okay. >> I got my job at Walmart. I do not have my Illinois ID. >> Okay. >> So, I have an Illinois driver's license. It's in the room in my purse. >> Okay. The physical one is not expired. My birthday was May 23rd. And since my driver's record is so good, they allow me to do it in Illinois online. They gave me my driver's license. I did not bring that physical one with me. That's why I for Walmart I got hired last Thursday. Good for you. Okay. So, tell me what happened today. >> Wait a minute. So, I didn't So, I don't have my correct driver. >> Don't worry about that. Tell me what happened this morning. We woke up at the hotel. We all went to sleep. We went up. >> You have a seat in the car. >> Get all your stuff, man. >> We'll get all your stuff. >> He said he didn't have one. Both adults were charged with two counts of felony child [music] neglect for leaving two minors unattended while going to a nearby arcade. Remember, leaving minors unattended, [music] even briefly, can trigger immediate law enforcement and child welfare involvement. Clear supervision plans are critical when traveling with dependent in public accommodations. This is the reaction of netzens to this situation. I'm glad staff spoke up when they heard crying. Hotel cameras really helped clarify the timeline. This shows how fast a situation can [music] escalate. You think the officers were out of options here? Watch what happens next on the body cam and tell us if you would have done the same. The next incident is when mom uses 2-year-old as a human shield. talking about you're not going to do anything and I'm gonna I'm double joining my thumbs up. Remember officers prioritize scene control and safety when minors are present during an arrest. Escalation and resistance can lead to additional charges during law enforcement encounters. This is the reaction of netzens to this situation. I'm relieved the minor was removed safely from the situation that escalated quickly once officers tried to make the arrest. body cam really shows how chaotic these scenes can become. So, we gave her, >> she's on campus to finish her stuff. >> Miss Smith said that there was nothing to get completed. >> So, we gave her the opportunity once more to leave campus. >> Did not want to leave campus. Finally got her out of Miss Owen's room. Started walking towards the front door. Decided to take a detour. Grabbed it by her arm. She's like I was like, "No, you're going the wrong way. Let me go." And started pulling away from me. And now we're here. >> So this is really not about us. >> Mhm. >> This is about graduation. >> So it's projected as a homeless. >> Exactly. Besides the fact that besides the fact that her actions led up to this, >> the student pulls away when an officer grabs her arm to redirect her toward the exit. I don't know. >> Huh? >> You need to log in first. H >> she's supposed to be off campus >> and she was refusing to leave campus at first. Then she said that she was going to walk and then when I told her go to the front door any anywhere less you're going to get arrested. So when she went to the front door, coming down from the cafeteria towards the front door, then she wanted to go towards the patio and then that's why I grabbed her. I was like, "No, we're going the wrong way." >> And then went to grab her by the arm. She pulled away and then that's how she ended up in cuffs. >> Okay. >> Mhm. >> Resisting. Yep. She slam the wall. >> Physical resistance escalates. Officers place the student in handcuffs. >> I don't know. Um I know her mom just had a kid. Um so she has senior privilege. She only has three classes. She has a first period and third period. Um, so what I explained to her last week was since you're a senior, we we're just waiting on test scores. Um, whatever event took place, all of them got the same consequence. You're not doing that because we're done. I told her I would contact her to see to let her know if she passed her SAT to let her know if she needed to come today to take her. I let her know that she did not pass SAT, so she did not need to come. So when I saw her, she just ignored me, walk past me. Then I tried to slow her down, kept walking past, Miss Kennedy knows as well, tried to stop her, didn't adhere to her direction. So that's when I called Miss >> We go for two. Um, she was not up here. So I went to her third period class. She was sitting in her third year class called her two three times check out as Owen said just listen just listen go ahead said over he tried to talk to her talk to her nothing and then when he said you going to walk out handcuffs or you going to walk out by yourself she got up took the right out of go ahead for her to gohead >> officers explain that refusal to leave after notice qualifies as trespassing regardless of intent too. >> Took it right out of Paw's class. >> Can you go to channel two? >> And then that's Go ahead. There's nothing for her to make up. She has intensive reading. She has my math class, which has a sub, and she has his own class. She came on campus the next day after the incident happened. I wasn't here, but I was told that that was an issue. People were chasing her around. And I >> you weren't supposed to be here to begin with. >> That became my paper that day. >> Today my referral paper today Miss I could come back and make up my work. >> Look at my team. Miss Hoffman said I could come back and make up my messages to prove it. You ready to listen? a great a sophomore as a teacher. I am an assistant principal as a dean. We have communicated to you that you were expected not to come back. No, I didn't. Yes, it is. So, Miss Hoffman cannot supersede what the administrators have already told whatever makeup work that's not important. Whatever makeup work did not open. I explained that to you last week. misdiagnosed to be honest. This very misdcult you cannot be here. You have to leave. and you chose something. You chose to pull away from a law enforcement deputy that was trying to test out again because the whole purpose was to avoid you getting in trouble, just to have you leave so you don't get in trouble. And you escalated the situation to where you're in handcuffs right now. >> You're a grown adult. You should know better by now. >> Everybody got the same consequence. Everybody that was in the room got the same consequence. So, it's not like we did anything different. >> Just like I told the other kids that were in that room. They they weren't in there and didn't know that somebody was smoking. There's no way you could not know. The whole room was full of smoke. You came down to the hallway 10 minutes after they walked out and the room was still full of smoke. So, and you're not supposed to be in there. So, you're out of area doing what you're not supposed to be doing as an adult school camp as an adult. Like, that's I don't understand where the confusion is. >> How old are you? You're going to die. report. My mama called me and said without your drug test. >> The student continues arguing while being escorted out, insisting [snorts] the situation was unfair. >> Y'all did not drug test me. >> When does the school drug test? You know that >> don't drug test the second drug test if they're on probation. >> But here for 3 years he's been working this for like >> you were suspended but did you get drug testing? >> No. So the drug testing is >> So what was the plan to suspend me? >> Cuz you're out of area. >> Yeah, I could have told me that. >> You knew that. That's what the suspension was for. Out of area. >> How about what? >> Who? >> You're saying mom sent you to school? >> Go ahead, sir. >> Go ahead, sir. >> She didn't send you. Call me please. >> I just now got the message of not pass. >> I think that where where the issue lies is and this is this is going forward for the rest of your life, right? If if someone who's a representative of an establishment says you need to leave, you're not allowed to be here and you choose not to go when they tell you to leave, then that still applies for trespassing because your invitation there has been revoked. >> So even if >> Yes, sir. >> So even if she said come on back today and then you got here and she goes, "Nope, never mind. You didn't you don't need to take this test. You need to leave now. You have to go." >> What What did you do anyway? What you got a warrant? Huh? >> She got >> no trespassing and um resisting without >> Wait, you she go here? She go >> what? You uh they say you're an adult. She How many time you stay back? >> She went to DJ. So >> I went to DJ. I'm sorry5. Come on now. >> Girl, you was just all sweet on the phone with your mama. Now you want to sell out again. >> This is a different place to go. My ears. my ear. >> You say one more thing. You walking out with them braids showing. I swear. >> I swear you going to walk out with them braid showing. >> The 19-year-old suspended student was charged with trespassing on school property after refusing to leave campus. She was additionally charged with resisting an officer without violence for pulling away during the escort. Remember, ignoring lawful orders from school officials and police can quickly escalate minor issues into criminal charges. Once permission to remain on campus is revoked, refusal to leave can legally become trespassing. This is the reaction of netzens to this situation. This could have ended in 5 minutes if she just walked out. Being 19 means school rules don't protect you anymore. So unnecessary pride made everything worse. What do you think about these situations? So, you want to >> Yeah, because I do because why would he injure my baby? >> Okay, I completely understand. The dilemma is >> unsafe driving and him letting me unsafe driving in his car. >> So, here's the thing. You had some drinks. You and Casey went out, right? But you did not buckle in Valencia, right? >> Neither of us did. Right. >> Right. So, you're going to get charged with child engagement. Okay. That's what you're going to do. >> Really? Why can't he get in charge of that? But he was the one in the back. >> He's getting charged, too. >> Okay. >> Sure. Okay. Well, I'm only 19 years old. This is my first time. >> Okay. >> Well, I'm just making sure that he's getting charged with this, too, because >> Yeah. Trust I'm just making sure that I went to the back. >> Okay. >> And he's the only one I left. >> Okay. >> Oh, Gary. >> That's your name, right? >> Yeah, sure. Let me know. >> Do you have any questions for me? >> Casey just wants to see her before police. Can he look at her? >> No, I'm not going to do that right now. >> Huh? >> Not going to do the gate. >> What's that? >> You have some water? >> No. I know you guys are trying to be right by him, but he's not allowed to consume anything while he's with me. When he gets to the jail, they can give him water there. So, I call DCF and I let them know that the child's with you guys. If not later tonight, then probably tomorrow. >> Just to make sure that >> he can't get bailed out tonight. >> You have to call the jail. You can call the jail and ask that. >> Come on out. We'll give it a shot. But if he starts getting worked up about it, >> just out of the car, he I got him socks and everything. >> Okay. If he starts getting worked up about it, we won't be able to do it. >> You give her certain meds twice a day and then one type of meds just once a day. If she dies, it's not my fault. It's not against what you wanted, Casey. >> I'm going to throw the seat belt over here. >> All right, Casey. I love you, Casey. >> It's not against my will. I don't have to do that unless you got a court warrant. >> It wasn't about that. >> No, no, no. It was. They love to do that. >> Calm. I'm going to jail. I'll talk to the probation officer. out. >> I'm going back on probation. Okay. >> The mother was charged with child endangerment for driving after drinking and failing to secure the baby in a car seat properly. The father was charged with child abuse related to unsafe handling of the infant during the roadside altercation. He was also charged with domestic battery based on evidence of physical injury to the mother and resisting arrest. While child protective services took steps [music] to ensure the baby's safety, remember poor judgment during stressful situations can quickly put others at risk, especially children. Child safety laws exist to prevent harm, regardless of intent or emotional circumstances. This is the reaction of netzens to this situation. The situation escalated because no one stayed calm or responsible. It's scary how fast a bad decision can endanger a child. I'm glad police stepped in before it got worse. Think this situation was already intense. The body cam catches a split-second decision that changes everything. Comment if you saw it coming. >> I didn't want to take any chances, especially with the kid in the car. >> Can I fall asleep? >> Oh, yeah. You were out. Yeah, you're out. You were sleeping [music] real good. You're deep into dreamland. >> Yeah. On March 16th, 2024, an unfit mother gets caught drunk and asleep behind the wheel with her toddler in the car. An officer was on routine patrol when he observed a vehicle that had been parked at a traffic light for quite some time. When the officer went to investigate, [music] she saw that the mother was clearly intoxicated. >> I took the keys out. Oh, >> okay. I was going to say I don't want >> I already took the keys out. So, there there's a kid in the passenger seat. Child abuse, neglect, dangerous. Let's wake up. You say Madison. >> Madison. Madison. >> Hey. Hey. >> What? >> Are you Madison? >> Yeah. >> Can you look at me? >> No. Hit [snorts] the brass light. >> What? >> The brass lo. >> What? >> The light. The light. The light. The light. >> The light. Okay, I got you. Okay, so I pointed it away. Hi. >> Hi. >> Good morning. >> Good morning. >> How are you? >> I'm good. >> Okay. Do you know where you're at? >> Um, >> we're not looking at the street sign. >> Close home. >> Okay. Where were you going this late at night? >> I was going home. I just stopped cuz I needed to take a breather. >> Yeah, for sure. I was upset and like >> where did you come from or did you just leave the house? >> The driver states she had stopped because the vehicle was messing up and admits she may have fallen asleep. Officers observe an open alcoholic beverage container inside the car. >> I dropped somebody off. You dropped somebody off? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Do you have any ID on you? >> Do you have any You don't have any weapons in the car? Knives or guns or anything like that? Okay. >> Thank you. I'm not like I wasn't driving. >> You were what? >> I know how this looks. Oh my god. >> That's okay. Well, I already saw it. You don't have to hide it. >> I'm not hiding. I just like Oh my god. Like >> Yeah. >> It looks so dumb. >> Yeah. >> Like >> Yeah, >> that's not what I was doing. >> What were you doing? >> I was just trying to get home. But my car was messing up, so I shut it off. >> Oh, the car was messing up. >> Yeah. >> You shut it off? >> Yeah, I shut it off and I was just >> No, I took the keys out. >> Oh, did you? Yeah. >> I'm still I guess I'm >> I don't want you to get spooked and drive away. >> I guess. >> Yeah. >> I don't know. >> I didn't want to take any chance, especially with the kid in the car. >> Did I see him fall asleep? >> What's that? >> Did I fall asleep? >> Oh, yeah. You were out. >> Yeah, you're out. You were sleeping real good. You were deep into dreamland. >> Yeah. >> Do you know where you're at? >> Yeah, literally I was leaving. >> Leaving him. >> Drivers will be off. >> Charlie. >> Charlie. >> Officers question the driver about alcohol consumption. She admits to drinking several beers and liquor earlier in the evening while still responsible for transporting the child. >> I went to go pick him up and like I got him off at a house. Okay. >> But my car is messing up so I stopped here. >> I was getting ready to pull down that way and that's probably when I guess fall asleep. >> Yeah, >> that's actually happened. >> Well, you put the car in park, so that's good. >> That's what happened. >> Yeah, at least that you did that. Yeah. >> What were we doing with the bottle? That was just what Yeah. It's just >> you just carry that around with you. >> I just carry it around. >> You can take her out. Is that do the whole question thing with him? I mean, it doesn't matter. >> What's that? >> If I'm going to get arrested, can we just do that? >> Yeah, but there's a process. So, we can't just like >> We don't just talk. >> We can't just like fast lane it. Yeah, we got to >> anyone that can watch them or >> your mom. So, I pulled up to the lights and I see this car sitting here. This I'm like just kind of waiting. I'm like, is it going to pull out? Like, what's it going to do? And I'm like, well, it's been some time. Now I have to go. Now I have to go investigate. >> Now I got to go take a look. >> Yeah. Now I got to Well, so then I come back around here to try to get in front of her just in case. The car was on. It was in cart. I didn't want her to get spooked and take off, especially with the kid. So I reached in, he's out. They're both knocked out. Had to shake her to get her to wake up, drool and everything. So when she noticed the fireball, she tried to put it away. I hurt it so much. >> Yeah. >> Did you got her driver's license? >> Yes. >> Yeah. I might need you or something. I just got >> I was stopped and I don't know what's going to happen, but I don't know what's happening right now. They're >> Yeah, we'll figure >> standardized field sobriety tests are conducted. The driver shows difficulty maintaining balance and following instructions during the exercises. >> We'll figure that out. >> How much have we had to drink tonight, Madison? >> A couple beers. >> Couple beers. >> Well, why don't you do me a favor and step out for me? Okay. >> They're doing their thing right now, so I got to go. >> All right. Bye. Love you. >> I'm going to step out. I fell asleep last time. >> Walk right up here for me. Okay. You said you had a couple beers and some fireball. Where where were you drinking that at? Come on over to a friend's house. I checked it to our friend's house. >> Okay. All right. Come right up here. So, a couple beers. How many How many is a couple? >> Two. >> Two. Okay. Oh, different people have different numbers. So, >> all right. Step right over here for me. Turn and face me. I'm going to ask you to perform a few standardized field exercise. You willing to do that for me? >> Yeah. >> Okay. First thing I need you to see the uh red light here. >> I'm moving from side to side a few times. I don't want you to follow with your eyes only, keeping your head still. My >> eyes are very dry. So, >> okay, I understand. Okay. All right. Do you have any problems with your knees, ankles, or back affect your balance at all? Okay. Okay, what I'm going to have >> based on observations and test performance officers determine there is probable cause for impairment. >> You do is I want you to turn and face that way. I want you to put your left foot on the white line. I want you to put your right foot in front of me just like this. Keep your hands down by your sides. Okay. I don't want you Yep. I want you to stand just like that until I ask you to move. You understand? >> Slides on those. >> You want to take your slides off? That's fine. Go ahead. Go ahead and begin for me. >> One, two, turn around. Do it again. >> Yep. >> Seven. Okay, come back over here. Keep your hands down by your sides. Okay, this exercise is called the one leg stand. Okay, >> my balance is really bad. I'm going to fail this as Dude, I can't even do that when I'm like >> Okay, what I'll have you do is put your feet together for me. Keep your hands down by your side. You're going to pick the foot of your choice. Whichever one makes you more comfortable. You raise approximately 6 in off the ground like this. Okay, >> go left >> and begin. 1001 1002 1003 1006 1007 1008 1009 11 U keep going >> Yep. >> That's good. >> Okay, stop. Go ahead and turn around. Face my car for me. This time I'm placing you under arrest for DUI. You can put your slides on in just a minute. >> The driver is placed under arrest for DUI. She becomes verbally upset but remains physically cooperative as officers proceed with arrest protocols. >> That's all right. I got to call Tony though. I got to let him know if I pick him up. Can I do that? >> Yep. Give us just a second. >> If my breath doesn't we'll talk about that when we get it right now. >> I need I need my phone so I can call. >> We're going to take care of that in just a minute. >> Do you have anything on you? Nothing illegal? >> Nope. >> Okay. If you introduce Can you All right, you're walking too far. Can you face the phone? All right. I don't know if you mentioned it, but if you take anything into jail, it's an additional felony charge. >> I don't have anything. >> So, just in case. >> I just woke up and so that's probably why I just tell you. >> Oh, okay. Well, we're beyond that now. So, we're on to the We're on to the next step. >> Right. Right. Right. Right. That's why I said I wanted to breath away. It wasn't alcohol or >> ma'am. No reason to act like that. Okay. Let's try to control ourselves. >> Let's try to control ourselves. >> Whenever [snorts] you're finished, whenever you want to act like an adult woman, we'll continue. Okay. >> I mean, once we get to the jail and we find out that I'm actually not, don't you guys are arresting me for no reason, then? Yeah. >> Are you done yet? >> No. You literally just almost pulled my pants out on >> I don't know what that is. Well, why don't you add relax? >> All right, relax. There's no reason for you to be chugging me extra hard like this. >> Really, >> Madison? Lift your left foot back to me. There you go. >> Like I have something on my in my toes. Oh, dirt now. Dirt now cuz >> Officers arrange for the child to be released to another responsible adult. The child is safely removed from the situation without injury. >> Take my shoes off. >> Put your shoes back on. I'm arresting you for July. >> Help her make a phone call, please. >> I'm a cool person. Just let me call. >> All right. So, let's have a seat. Okay. Let's get in the back of the car. >> And when you guys find out that my alcohol level is actually above legal women, do I get released? >> We'll see about that. >> So, have a seat. >> Have a seat. >> Can I get a sim? >> No. >> Nope. Madison, here's where this works. I'm telling you to get in. If you don't, I will make you get in. >> Okay. You didn't let go my arm. >> No, I don't let go of your arm. >> Yes, you do. You're holding on too tight. >> I am cooperative, but you really are getting really too aggressive. >> I'm about to get into the car. You need to let go of my arm. >> So, either you get in or I put you in. >> I'm getting into the car. Let go. >> No, I'm not letting go. >> You don't have to hold on so tight. I'm not resisting. >> I'm getting in the car. I'm asking to let go of me. So tight. So tight. So tight. I'm asking for like I'm asking for letting go. Literally, >> I'm not saying you had to let go, bro. >> But you guys don't do breath lenses on the road to just do road tests. >> Okay. >> All right. I appreciate it. He said he had a few like a few hours ago. He just didn't want to uh chance it uh driving. >> So, you want to take the kid? >> I'll drive with you. Officers confirm DUI charges and notify child protective services due to the presence of the toddler during the incident. >> The car. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> I want to see the breathalyzer though. What's my what's my blood alcohol level? >> You're going to notify DCF. >> Absolutely. >> Not tell. Okay. [laughter] >> Do what? >> Tommy's like, I'm not telling you to. Just check me. >> Just make sure. [laughter] >> Not don't yet. Don't take that. >> Thank you. >> Hey, kid. All right. >> Do you want to take I got to talk to you if you want to go get in the bed or whatever you got to do and then I'll talk to you. What's going on with >> She's off her meds. >> Okay. >> She obvious went to jail for >> DUI. >> DUI. >> Reckless. >> Did she leave here? >> Uh yeah, she did. >> That's where she came from. >> Yep. >> Okay. Cuz she said she was coming from someone's house. >> I mean, she left here hours ago. >> Okay. So, she sounds like she possibly went to someone else's house then. I have no idea with how she's been there. >> Okay, she's definitely getting charged with DUI. There's a possibility she's going to get charged with either child neglect or child endangerment. She's driving around drunk. Luckily, nobody got hurt tonight. DCF's going to get notified, okay? Like, we have to. I just like to give people the heads up so that you're not hanging out here one day and all of a sudden, knock DCF's here and you're like, whoa, thinking it's about you. >> I was I mean, I know it's >> I have no idea. So, I can't tell you when obviously I don't work for them. I don't know. They're definitely not the type where they may just wait till Monday. Okay. >> Do you have any questions for me? >> Um, it's not a serious question. >> No. Any any questions on that? >> Can I do you mind if I take the breathalyzer? I just want to see where I was at. >> No, we don't car. But I can tell you. No offense. Good thing you didn't drive. >> Yeah. >> Okay. I'm glad you told me that. >> Sty was charged with driving under the influence DUI and child neglect. Child endangerment due to intoxication while responsible for a minor inside the vehicle. DUI and child related charges referred to the court. Judicial review to determine penalties and conditions. Child welfare agencies to assess family safety and follow-up supervision. Remember, driving under the influence places both the driver and any passengers, especially children, at serious risk, even if no crash occurs. Law enforcement prioritizes [music] child safety immediately while allowing courts and child welfare agencies to determine accountability. This is the reaction of nizens to this situation. It's frightening how quickly a bad decision could have ended much worse. I'm glad the officer noticed the car before anyone got hurt. This really shows how serious DUI laws are when a child is involved. Everyone thought it was too late until the body cam shows the exact second officer step in. Did you predict that [music] rescue?
