Welcome back everyone. Today's video comes to us from Alaska where Alaska State Troopers were on patrol in Prince William Sound. Aboard their vessel was a mysterious cameraman and I have no idea who he was, but I'm assuming he was filming for a TV show. At the time of this interaction, Prince William Sound had a daily bag limit for Rockfish of three, [music] of which only one can be non-pelagic. With that in mind, let's get into the video. >> We'll try to tie off. Is that cool? Yeah. >> How you doing today? >> Good. >> Good. Name's John with the state troopers. You mind pulling that rod up so we can tie off so I take some fishing licenses? Sir, is there any I can't see it from here. Is there any way you could pull your rod up and maybe set it inside the boat so I can tie off to you and I could I I can't see it. >> Can you reel in your line? I'm going to tie up to you. Can you reel in your physical moving to the other side. >> Okay, sir. Your fishing pole, can you reel it in so we could tie up? No, sir. No. The fishing pole that's in the water. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. This one right here. >> Yeah. Reel that in. Sir. Sir. No. No. We'll finish reeling this one in >> and then you can you can take it and put it in the boat. We're going to we're going to come closer. I'm going to throw this to you. We can We can work on their cast if that's what they want. We're still going to tie up. Sir, I don't want you to get your license all wet. Just hold on one sec. Reel this one. Reel this one up. Oh. Oh. Oh, there goes your license. Yeah. Do you want to? Yeah. Pull. There we go. I'll give you this. And sir, you tie up to the cleat. Don't fall in. Don't do that. Don't hold on too much. Let you sir sir. That's fine. Leave it. You're good. Stay. Hey, stay right there. No, no, no, no. Hey, hey, no. Don't get back in your boat. Take this. Here. Here. Give me that line. >> There we go. Watch your leg. Move. Move your leg. Move your leg. Yeah. Okay. All right. Hey, sure. Just get back in your boat. >> Okay. I'm going to hop on your boat. Okay. Is that line nice and tight? >> Yeah. Well, I'm going to have to I'll let you retie it. It's barely. Come on. Here. Do this. How much more you got? There it is. >> Perfect. All right. Just You can put it in the boat. Hey, sir. I'm going to hop on. Okay. >> Okay. >> All righty. My name's John. >> Mhm. >> Is it just you two on board? Just two. There any other people? Yeah, >> just you two. >> Okay. >> Uh, one person in uh uh my uncle, she uh none of my friends are going to 12 hours ago. >> Okay. >> Three people are together. >> Okay. Do you have photo IDs? Driver's license. Thank you. Can you have one, sir? I have a question. I have your fishing licenses here. These are your fishing licenses. Okay. >> This is uh my fishing license undersized ling cod. Lind cod need to be 35 in and some pretty small one on the boat. Looks like you guys caught some fish. Mhm. >> Are these all your fish? Yep. Mind if we take a look? >> Sure. >> Do you have fish anywhere else? >> That's all. >> That's it. Do you mind if Can we look in the cooler? >> Got some What's in the bag there? Okay. What about this cooler? You got any fish in that one? All right. What's in the What's in these bags here? Oh, you just got ice. Oh, you guys got some glacier ice, didn't you? Nice. Well, sweet. Can we scoot these over a little bit? I just want to take a look at these fish right here. Does it sound good? >> You got it. Not take a look at him. That's all. I need to say he's got a fishold. >> Oh, you got you got a fish hold under here. >> No, no PC. >> We can take a look. >> Yeah. Yep. You got a flounder that went in there. Hold on. >> Yeah, I think it was a flounder. Okay, this should be enough. It teeth are saying flounder. Get that close. All right. Got some sculping. Look at this. All right. Do we want to You can set that down. I just got to count cuz there's limits, right? You can only catch so many. got a couple nice Pacific cod. Yeah. Yeah, it's a flounder. You guys caught some flounder. All right, John there. I think there that silver belly also or silver gray. That's the rockfish right here. >> Yeah. Just put it with the rockfish so we get a picture. Well, okay. So, do you um gentlemen know how many rockfish you're allowed to have? >> Oh, maybe five. >> Maybe five. Did you read the regulations? >> Uh 2 years. to go, you know, just on your first time. >> This is your first time. >> Yeah. So, I know you know the every five fishing five each of them. >> It's not five. It's three. Only one of which can be nonpolgic. >> What kind is the three? Which means, well, looking right here, these yellow eye, you're only allowed one each. And I count 1 2 3 4 5 six. And then I haven't even identified these three rock fish here. >> One day, four of them each each person. >> Three. Three each. And you're only allowed one one of the yellow eyes. All of these are nonagic. >> All of these are non palagic. >> Like every single one of these is non. >> So that's a China. That's a quillback. A silver gray. A quillback. Yellow eye. Canary. >> One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10. 10 non-pelagic. And we're using salmon for bait. >> What kind of salmon is this? >> Uh this is uh kinetic salmon. You know, >> king salmon. >> No. >> Uh >> doesn't look like king salmon. >> Sakai. >> That's what I was going to say. >> Where'd you get it? >> Casil. Yeah. >> You got this at Casil. >> How did you catch it? >> Diff netting. >> Okay. So, they're saying that these fish are dip net as a personal use fishery for reds. Uh you can use pink salmon for bait in Alaska, but it has to be sport cut. So, you can't use reds. That's a violation, but you also can't use personal c fish as bait. So, there's there's two more violations there. It's a bit of an issue. And then what what what's this over here on your hook? >> Oh, the same thing. >> Same thing. Red salmon. >> Yes. Salmon. >> She for sport sport caught or sport fish wise, you're only allowed to use pink or chama salmon. You tell me you got these from Castile and they're Sakai salmon. >> Sakai. Sakai salmon. It's not king salmon. >> Sakai salmon you're using for bait. >> Oh [ __ ] Yeah. See that? >> Sure is. >> Oh, no. That's what I'm saying. You can only use pigs or chums. What's going on with this? Did they eat a fish already or what's this? >> I don't know. >> Did you catch this one today? >> Yeah. You caught this one today? >> No, I probably did. >> Yeah. Was it one of these? >> It was like that. Okay. >> I'm using uh China rockfishes. >> And just to be clear, did you This is all bait you've been using. >> Yes. >> This used for bait. >> Have you got the life jackets yet? Um and we got shrimp on board. And we got shrimp. Do you guys have a uh a permit for the shrimp? Where where you been setting your shrimp pots at >> out there? How far? How far from here? >> Uh entrance there. >> At the entrance. No, yesterday I came cleaning and it just uh >> yesterday >> you got those yesterday. >> You got 10. >> And you haven't you haven't recorded them yet? You said you caught them yesterday. How many other times have you been out shrimp catching shrimp? >> Just the one time. >> Just the one time. Yeah. >> How many pots do you have in the water right now? >> Two. >> Two. Okay. >> All right. Well, >> hey, also check that fish hold under the under there just to just to be sure. You mind if I look in here? Yes. >> Are you looking in here? All right, you guys. We got quite a few issues we need to handle here. I lost count of how many pelgic rock fists are on this boat. I know there's only supposed to be two of them or non-polgic. There's only supposed to be two of them. There's 10 of them and one for bait or rockfish for bait. >> Yeah. Yeah. We're at 12 violations right now. Let's uh let's just do the rest of it real quick. Like the life jackets, all that. Do you have two life jackets on board? Nice. So, I've been telling everybody else with these inflatables, if the Coast Guard gets on here and you're not wearing the inflatables, those don't count as life preservers. Okay. Wouldn't write a write a citation for that that today, but what'd you cook up for dinner? So, >> is it fish? Is it more fish you caught? in a fish there. >> What is it? >> Eating. >> Is it bacon? >> Yeah. >> What What kind of sauce you use? Oh, okay. >> It smells good. I just have lunch. >> Uh my country is, you know, ketchup. >> Your your country? Where you from, man? >> Korea. >> Where? >> Kia. >> Korea. >> Oh, okay. >> Yeah, we have a we have a lot to unpack here. >> And yeah, this this boat here is 30 foot king fisher. He's got, you know, this nice pop folders, twin Hondas. This is a $300,000 boat. >> To the trooper's point, this specific King Fisher model, the 3025 XRS, has a base starting price around $334,000. These are purpose-built boats that are well suited for Alaska's climate. With a boat like that, there is no excuse for ignorance of basic fishing regulations. >> At a certain point, we might be seizing boats. Depends on what we find. >> All right. Well, guys, we have a lot of issues that we need to to to address. I know for now um you're each only allowed one of these non-polgic fish. That's the limit and only one one uh yellow eye. So, which fish did you catch first? >> Uh yesterday I catch one. So she every day even >> you caught all the big ones first. >> Yeah. >> Just days like yesterday I coming to know the national 7 starting what time starting fishing maybe seven I don't know what how long have you been out fishing? Yesterday we coming here. >> You started yesterday? >> Yeah. >> Did you catch when did you catch all these fish? >> Yesterday. >> You haven't kept them in the cooler. The nice fish hold you got on here. >> You can be straight up with me. If you caught them all today, then you caught them all today. Did you catch them all today? Did you catch all these fish today? >> No. Yesterday. >> Yesterday and today. >> Yesterday and today. >> Yes. >> Okay. Do you think >> yesterday? What can we do? Which ones did you catch today? >> Today? Uh, these are the two of them >> and these are two of them. >> Okay. >> You caught this one today? >> So, this is So, you caught all these today, >> babe? >> These ones here? That's all you caught today? >> What? >> Just these fish right here? >> No, >> that's what you just told me. >> No, no. I can That's everything. >> I know it's everything. I'm just trying to figure out what you caught today. >> Even even this uh this three fish even today. >> You caught the three flounder today. >> Yeah. >> What else? >> And then this this and this and the this guy. >> Okay. >> I think that this one I don't know. Well, let's do this. I'm not worried about any of these fish. >> Of these fish, which ones did you catch today? >> Or how many did you catch today? Hey, today is the uh today and yesterday. Half and a half. >> Half and half. Okay. All right. Half and half. Half yesterday, half today. Yeah. What's the in How many can they be in possession? Just It's still just one. Yeah. All right. Well, fortunately, we're going to have to issue some citations. Okay. So, um we get started on that and then we'll get these fists figured out. You can't keep all of them. I know that much. So, it'll be one each. >> Which one is the one? >> Which one is each? >> Which one? Which one? >> How much? >> Yeah. Yeah. >> How about you keep these ones? >> Is that fair? >> And then the the other eight are going to be seized as evidence. Okay. Do you have a copy of the fishing regulations? Can you get a copy of those rags? Fishing rigs. What about deep water release mechanism? You don't know what that is? I'll show you. Hold on. >> I think there's a picture of deep water release and uh you're right here. These are all the ones you caught. Non-polgic, right? >> Yeah. So, these are they're they can't be in possession of these. They're over their limit. So, we're going to be seizing these fish. Um and we'll find a charity to give them to. so that they don't go to waste. >> Rockfish. These are rockfish. >> Three per day, six in possession. Only one per day. One in possession may be non-polgic rockfish. Thank you. >> Oh, and one of these. You pretty much had had one of everything. >> Uh I think that >> you want to keep this? >> Yeah. >> Do we got extra copies? He said he wants to keep it. I think he could use it. We can we can come up with another >> Keep this copy. Okay. Okay. The other thing I wanted to ask you, you're required to have one of these on board. Do you have one? It's a deep water release mechanism specifically for rockfish. >> You don't You don't have one? Okay. All right. Well, give me a few minutes. I'm going to have some paperwork for you. It's a lot to think about, but I'll get back with you and uh we'll talk soon. Okay. >> This is your copy, >> huh? We have like >> Yeah, I have your ID. >> Yeah. One went in and it went behind us before we could do anything. >> Did I drop it or something? >> No, it's the one that that he threw. >> He threw one. >> Yeah. He like tried to throw it to the boat. So, in the end, the anglers were found to be in possession of 10 non-pelagic rockfish, eight over their daily bag limit. The anglers also failed to log their shrimp from the day before. They had no descending device, and they were using sockeye and rockfish as bait. One angller was cited for failing to record his shrimp harvest, being over the daily non-pelagic rockfish limit, not having a descending device, and using rockfish as bait. Meanwhile, the other was cited for using rockfish as bait, and being over the non-pelagic rockfish limit. Now, unfortunately, Alaska's court record system is currently down, meaning we're unable to verify the outcome of the case and if any fines or penalties were assessed. According to the officer's report, the fish that were seized were later donated to charity, which is a common practice in Alaska. Now, that's it for today's video. Thank you so much for watching.
