Just wait until you see this next one. >> You guys don't even have to arrest me. >> A woman entered Sea Coast Bank attempting to cash a $9,000 check she claimed came from a former employer. Bank staff grew suspicious because her story didn't add up and the check looked fake. And then one thing she told me was that all her check starts with a number four. >> This one doesn't have a number four. >> The bank though the >> check number the person from like the batch that they're on right now. Yeah. >> Mhm. >> So she said that they getting positive pay when that comes through in their system. So whoever like if they were to go to let's say Chase, >> right, and negotiating there >> once it comes into their system, they got positive pay. So they able to reject those checks, but they could see that it's clear fraud. So she said that this is not the first time that she received a call because of fraud going on. >> The bank employees noticed inconsistencies. The check number format was off. The layout and fonts were irregular and the signature was misplaced. >> I feel bad, but we had to follow procedures. You know, they ask us to call you guys. >> I feel bad if she's doing fraud. I mean, I'm like, well, you got people sometimes that, you know, >> I mean, if a check came to your house, I would just not >> go to a random CO and be cashing it like >> No. And it's funny, we got some, even us as employees, we get calls or texts or checks and I'm like, that's fraud. >> Yeah. Right. >> So, but some people just sign the grape. Yeah. Right. >> You swear everything you >> Yes. inside right here. >> She came in and she said that she worked for this company. >> So she said she used to work for them during the pandemic and then during the pandemic they disappeared, >> right? And she received a check from them on the the checks dated the 10 >> and she was like surprised because they disappeared. >> Okay. >> So I was like that's interesting. You know, four years later, they send you a check randomly. Like I said, did they notify you? Did you call them? Like she said she didn't. She's like, "I was so busy doing other things." >> Staff explained how they recognized the check as counterfeit. The fonts didn't match. Alignment errors and missing company logo were clear red flags. >> Owned you? And she's like, "Kind of." Um, you know, I I make roughly this a week. And she's like, "I'm not really good with >> How did you tell it was fake?" So the >> to be honest, so this right here, right, it looks like a type like you're typing it on a typewriter or something >> signature. >> Um, this is not supposed to be there. It's supposed to be up here. >> Okay. >> Memo is not supposed to be there. It's supposed to be below here, >> right? >> And then just the font. >> It's just you see how it says date. The font it's it's just really >> I mean you have date and then that's like a different font. Like it's just all over the place. And then the signature >> and if you was to see a check from that company, the signature close. >> Okay. >> Nowhere near close. >> And we have like a logo on the side and all that. So it's >> So as soon as I saw the faded sea coast and the signature card, the sign sorry signature for me it was this, this, and this. >> Okay. >> I kind of gave it away. So you got some letters that are bigger than the others. >> I was like those are the signals that we look for. >> But she she came in today to cash this check. >> Yeah, that was her one. Police arrived and read her Miranda rightites before questioning her about the check and its origins >> to like verify if it was fake or not. It was to cash it. >> It was to make sure that it was legit and it was also I said, "What are you looking to do today?" She said to cash it. I think I put >> verifying. Hold on. >> Yeah. So, uh she said that she thought it was odd that she received it but wanted us to verify it in order to cash. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> All right. Perfect. >> Yeah. but she 100% >> said she was going to cash it or wanted to cash it. >> You know, that's kind of where it was. So, that's why I said like I did some calculations myself to see. >> All right. >> She claimed the check was mailed to her by a former employer from a call center, but couldn't remember the company's name or her manager's full details. She said it came without paperwork. >> One second. I got to read you your rights first so we can talk. And I'm getting arrested. >> You're not in handcuffs. Okay. >> But for us to talk as law enforcement, if we have a question about a crime, I have to read you your rights. All right. You have the right to remain silent. Do you understand? >> Yes. >> Anything you say may be used against you in court. Do you understand? >> Yes, sir. >> You have the right to talk to a lawyer before and during questioning. Do you understand? >> Yes. >> If you cannot afford a lawyer and want one, one will be provided for you before questioning or without charge. Do you understand? >> Yes. >> All right. So, where did you work? >> Nordstrom. >> No, no, no, no. Where this check came from? >> What it says on the paper? It was at It was on Sand Lake and it was with >> How long did you work at this company? >> Like a couple years ago. >> But how long did you work there? >> A year before the pandemic. >> So, I've worked at places for just a few months and I still remember where I worked. No, I mean I know I work, but I'm saying like it was with it was call center. It was a call center job >> for >> um U CVS and what was the the gas company? They all was in one building. >> What gas company? >> A gas company in up north. >> Who gave you the check? >> It was mailed to me. was mailed to you with no other paperwork. Correct. >> No other paperwork, sir. >> Who was your direct supervisor? >> My supervisor was Michael. >> Michael what? >> Well, I had two of them. One was Michael. Then the other one was um I don't remember the other Michael's name, but one was a supervisor and the other one was a manager. I don't remember the manager's last name cuz I didn't stick around long enough to Well, I understand I didn't stick around long enough, but you only meet the ones you kind of associate with. >> Mhm. >> And he was a manager >> supervisor. >> Can you have his phone number? >> Yes. >> It's way too many numbers. >> That's the number on the text app now cuz we used That's what they was using. Unless I left it in my text now number. >> I'm not text now WhatsApp. >> It's a WhatsApp number. >> Mhm. >> Do you have texts with that person? >> Not no more. I just have them when it when I try to call it. >> You have no texts through WhatsApp right now. >> No. This text that I text is is like my actual >> When shown her phone messages, she revealed texts from a man named Michael whom she described as both a former coworker and romantic partner. >> Phone worker. >> Can I see? >> This is the my text now. Not text now, my text messages. And um >> what did that one say? Something about a bank. That's my cousin. This one is my cousin. The bank. They're going to wire me money to my bank. >> Is that something totally different? >> Totally different. >> So, where's the what's at? >> This one. >> See, that's the number. >> Can you open it? >> And these are all the messages here. >> And this is with >> Michael. >> Mhm. Can I see that? >> But I'm not going to lie to you. I do. We're in a relationship. Well, was in a relationship. So, some of it, you know, when he did call me, babe, whatever. And then I just texted him. I was like, "How did the company send a fake check?" And he's like, he thought we cashed it weeks ago. And I was like, "I didn't cuz I didn't have time. I was working." Like, I'm literally telling you the 100% truth. Like I have nothing to do with any fraud stuff. None of that. >> H >> What's your name? >> My name Ashley. I can even dial the number for you. >> And I text him today and I said, "Hey, they said that the check is fake." Then I was like, "How did you I was about to tell him like, "Hey, you got to text I mean you know the checks and stuff like that." As of today, like you see today's text message. I said, "Hey, they sent a check that's fake." Cuz he got one, too. And other companies, like I told you, other employees, they got one. So, I'm letting him know like, "Hey, you know, don't go through the same thing that I'm going through now." So, I'm literally telling the truth 100%. I I literally have nothing to hide. and I I never been in this predicament before. >> Mhm. >> All right. Have a seat. >> My name is Carlos. Nice to meet you. >> The woman continued to insist she wasn't involved in any scam. She said she received the check a month earlier and that others she knew had gotten similar checks. >> Check by mail from the company that I used to work for um >> last month. >> Yeah. >> Okay. What was the name of the company? >> It was um I don't even know the name. I just know it was a call center, but they had closed down >> right when the pandemic hit and we was working from home, but then >> they kind of not going to say destroy. >> Okay. >> But >> how long did you work there? >> A year. >> A year. >> 6 months to a year before the pandemic came around. >> Okay. >> So, >> and you don't remember the name of the company? >> No, not even. I'm sorry. It's just I I worked so many jobs after that just trying to stay up with >> bills and everything. >> Um >> but >> you got direct deposit from them or did you get paid by check from them? >> From them I got direct deposit. That was like a long time ago with a old bank like >> Okay. So you don't bank with that bank? >> I don't bank with Chase no more. >> Okay. So when you work for them, you bank with Chase? >> Yes. You got direct deposit from them via Chase? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Um then after I left from that job, I went and started working. I didn't go to McDonald's right away. >> Mhm. >> I applied for McDonald's, but they said I don't have the qualification skills. So I went >> Really? >> Wow. Okay. >> So I went to SeaWorld, got hired at SeaWorld Universal. And um >> So who you banking now? Additional finance. >> Okay. So from Chase, you went to additional finance or >> No, I went to like a different bank after I went to one of those. >> Why you keep moving banks? >> Cuz like >> I had Chase Bank since I was in high school. >> I mean it was like >> you know >> Well, first I started with Bank America and then >> you know they start talking about how Bank America is scamming people and stuff. Then that's why I moved to Chase. >> Okay. And then my understanding is the check that you came to cash today was from this employee that you used to work at that you don't remember the name. >> No, I don't I mean yes, >> but >> I worked at several jobs. I'm not a type of person to scam anybody. Like I ain't never listen. I don't think you're the type of person that's going to scam anybody. >> But I have had co-workers hitting me up on Facebook >> and they was like, "Hey, do you remember the company we used to work for?" Mhm. >> I was like, "Girl, I don't remember half the places I worked." I was like, "Well, sure. What about it?" And they were like, "Oh, well, they sent me a check for $7,000." I was like, "Oh, okay. That's kudos for you." I mean, I don't really need it cuz I'm making ends meets with the two little jobs that I got. Even though it's still a little struggle >> that I might have to pick up a third job when summer starts. I mean, summer ends. Mhm. >> But other than that, like, you know, I just been, you know, working, >> making it work, >> living from paycheck to paycheck, basically. >> Okay. >> You know, >> and when you work for the company that's on the check that you don't remember the name, um, who is the manager there? Who was your supervisor? >> Michael, my supervisor was Michael. >> And did you work directly for that company? >> Yes. >> Got kids. >> Two kids. >> Yeah. >> How old are they? >> Seven and eight. >> Seven and eight. Where they at right now? No, >> my um friend's house and I'm going to go get them from her house cuz they was playing with her kids. >> Okay. Uh you dropped Well, you were you over there? You dropped them off and then came here or >> No, I think we alternate. She's a single parent. I'm a single parent. So, we kind of hand in hand best friends. It's just one weekend she'll babysit, >> one weekend I'll babysit just to give us some free time. >> So, let's talk about the check. What's the deal with the check? You said you got it in the mail. >> I got it in the mail just like everybody else that reached out to me on social media. >> Well, one girl called me through social media and she was like um >> just bragging about the check >> pretty much. She I guess she didn't have my direct phone numbers, >> so she called me through social media and she was like, "Hey, remember the company we saw?" I was like, "Girl, I don't remember." She described friends on social media bragging about receiving large checks, $7,000, $8,000. However, she admitted that her story about the company's name, managers, and payroll didn't make sense, especially since her old job never paid by check. >> Things I did >> before the pandemic or even during the pandemic. >> And she was like, um, well, the company they sent us, they sent me a check. And I'm like, "Okay." I was like, "For what?" And she was like, "Remember when we worked and had shut down?" >> Mhm. >> All of this that and third. I was like, "Oh." I was like, "Okay." I was like, "Well, was it worth you?" I was like, she was like, "The check was $7,800." And I was like >> I was like, "Okay." I was like, >> you know, like, "Hey, good for you." Type five vibe. >> That's what I was kind of telling her. And then she was like, um, she was like, "Yeah, I >> What friend is that?" >> Jessica. >> Jessica. You got her the phone number. >> No. >> No. What's her last name? >> I don't even know her last name. I'm not even going to lie. >> You got on social media. Can you pull it up on your social media? >> But to be honest, I think she blocked me cuz I think she thought I felt jealous. >> No. I don't I don't know cuz I might have to go back to try to call her and when I got mine I couldn't find it. But >> how long after she had got hers did you get yours? >> 3 weeks later. >> 3 weeks later. >> So she got one I want to say >> when you were when you worked for this company. Did they owe you any money? >> We was supposed to get paid one more check or at least No, between one to two more checks. >> One to two more checks >> because we did work from home. >> Mhm. um when they shut the office and stuff down because >> How much did you get paid when you were there? >> 15 $15 an hour. >> $15 an hour. You work 40 hours a week. >> And then we got paid every two weeks. >> Every two weeks. So about roughly How much was that? >> Sometimes my checks would be at 9. Then sometimes my checks will be roughly around 8 >> 100. Okay. >> And then sometimes my check will be like 990. >> Okay. So, it's fair to say if you were owed >> 2 months 2 months worth of money >> at 1,800 bucks a month on the high end. Yeah. Without >> you're still at 3600 bucks if you were owed money. >> Yes. >> It's probably not going to be 9,000. >> That's exactly what I said when I was trying to do my calculations. >> Yeah. That don't add up. Mhm. >> It didn't add up. So, I was like, "Okay, let me >> let me see here." Like um >> did you call the company? >> I tried. It was the number I had tried to call was no longer service. >> When did you try to call them? >> 4 days after I got the check. >> Okay. And which was when a month ago? >> And then after that I just been busy moving and working my jobs and trying to just stay afloat. I kind of was like, well, you know, even with >> friends of mine, I'm not going to say friends. Let's just say >> So, you been trying to stay afloat, >> basically. >> Been working, hustling, and you got this $9,000 check a month ago, >> but yet you don't you don't think, let me go cash this check to help me out. >> No, I I've been doing it, you know, now like, you know what I mean? >> On my own. >> Police confronted her with contradictions. She knew the check looked fake, but still brought it in. She changed her story multiple times. First claiming it was from her employer, then saying it came from Michael, who now lived overseas. >> You guys check >> and let me know like, hey, if it's legit, whatever, whatever, and go from there. >> Okay. Um, >> all right. I appreciate you for talking with me, but now I have a couple questions for you. Okay. And this is where I just want you to be truthful with me in this. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Cuz you ain't been 100%. And that's okay cuz I I got a quick memory. It happened. It's gone. I ain't worried about it anymore. Okay. But I am worried about you at this point cuz someone got you in here cashing a check that you know it's like Okay. Hold on. Talk about this. I didn't tweet my dad by the middle and that's why I kind of was like I brushed it off. >> I was going to shred it myself, but like I said, >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. >> other co-workers and friends and I'm family. Look, this some like family. Oh, yeah. It's a legit check. Cash it, you know, I got my money type. Whatever. >> But but you you and I both looked at this check and you just told me that it was fake pretty much. >> Yes. I I spoke to Tyler and he said you came in here to try to cash the check. >> No, I didn't. I told her I said I was really skeptical about this check that I got in the mail from a company. >> And you just pointed out to me multiple different reasons and multiple different things about the check that you knew was fake. Why didn't you come in here and waste your time do that? >> Because like I said >> Mhm. >> cuz of other employees that I used to work with. >> Okay. you trying to cover up for? But this is not going to this is not going to go well for you. >> You are a person with no criminal history with children who were waiting on you. >> Who are you talking to on the phone? >> No, Michael. I just text me. I say, "Hey, the company that you said no for they sent the check." And I said, "They said that the check." >> They said, "Didn't you pass the check?" I said no cuz he asked me if I passed the check. When I got it, I said no because I was so busy working. What? Whatever. >> What number is this? >> That's the WhatsApp number. That's how I communicate with him. >> Is this the person who >> works with the company? Well, >> is this the person who sent you the check? >> Yes, we both used cuz clearly at the bottom right there, you can see when he said, "I'll send a check for your expenses. What does this person have you doing? Tell me tell me the the rundown. >> This is Michael. Me and him both used to work at the company together. Not that company, but the call center. And he was telling me that he'll help me pay for my expenses because I was telling him that I was having little problems, you know, minor work. They didn't get me down on my vehicle. And he was like, "Okay, no worry. I got you. I'll send you a check by mail. You can cash it." And then like as of today, you can clear your receipt right here. Like right here. When I had told her, I was like, "Hey, the check that you sent me at the bottom." I was like, and I told him here, I was like, "Hey, the check that you got, the check that you got and you sent >> I don't see what you're saying. Where you're saying something that's not on the phone. So, I know I'm cashing the check that you sent me, right, that you're saying you got a month ago by this company. Now, it's from this Michael guy. >> We both used to work for the same >> who doesn't work at the company cuz I already talked to the company. You finally have a day off. Hi, what the hell? The check is not real. >> Hi, what do you mean? Well, you knew the check wasn't real cuz you explained it to me, which is why you've been holding on to it for a month. >> And this number is like an overseas phone number. >> That's the reason why we had literally stopped. We really like, you know. >> Have you ever seen this person in real life? >> Yes. We used to work together. >> How do you know it's the same person? >> Because he knows my kid's name. When he called months ago for one of my kids' birthday. >> Okay. And then once you cash his check, what were we supposed to do with the phone? >> It was supposed to take care of my expenses. >> Expenses for what? whatever I need around the house or my my car needed to get repaired, but I got that done. >> So, I'm literally telling you the truth. I have nothing to do with a frog. >> So, this guy gave you a check to cover your expenses that you don't even know who this is. It can be anybody's name. It's anybody's name. >> We used to work together. >> Okay. Um All right. >> I'm not lying to you. Like, I don't have nothing to worry about. Like all I want to do right about now is like now I'm starting to feel a little uncomfortable. I just want to go home to my kids cuz like now I'm starting to feel like >> Well, unfortunately you're not going to go home to your kids right now, >> right? >> Okay. Because you just tried to catch a picture. >> I didn't try to catch anything. I literally came here and asked the lady. You can even go get her. I asked her to verify. >> And then you told me to check this. >> Yes. Now you're telling me to check from this guy that has some overseas phone number that you're saying is Michael that you've never seen this person. >> I have seen him before. We used to work. >> How do you know that's Michael? He stayed with me on one side >> because he said he couldn't use his phone cuz he's overseas and then after that that's literally the reason why I'm telling you the truth. >> Like no lies, no none of that. Like I literally have no intent of scamming anybody. I literally I go to a night job later tonight. I have literally no type of anything. Like I'm honestly telling the truth. Like real deal. Like I literally came here and asked the lady, "Can she verify this?" Because I said I don't want to take it to my bank because like I'm a little skeptical about my, you know, my institution that I bake with because they >> Well, the issue was you knew the check was fake. >> But I didn't even cash it though. That's the thing. I asked the lady, "Can she verify?" I say, "Hey, I I literally you can go and get her." >> Okay. >> Cuz I literally said I said, "Hey, can you please verify this?" Cuz I said, "I have deal with checks." And I was like, "I'm a little skeptical because um a check came in the mail from a company that I used to work for years ago that closed down." And I was like, "This these numbers don't add up." And I was like, "I didn't even want to go to my bank cashier." I was like, I even told her I called up here and I said, "Hey, I have a check by mail from you guys's bank." >> Mhm. She said, "You just have to bring the check in." >> Yeah. >> Exactly. So, I didn't do nothing wrong. I didn't even say cash the check. I literally asked her to verify it and do whatever they need to do. >> Okay. I'm just going to swear to you real quick just to verify what you told me the truth. Okay. So, just raise your right hand. You saw me swear a friend of the testimony you just gave in this case was the truth. The whole truth. Nothing but the truth. >> Yes, that's the whole truth. I'm so serious. Like, I never been arrested before. I never had intense anything. And it's just like it's really difficult for me to even try to process this because it's like I've never had to to do any of this before. >> All right, Ashley stand. >> Can I call my mom first? >> I'm sure we can we can go ahead and contact her. >> No, I want to contact her and let her know, please. >> Oh [ __ ] >> Can I Can I please call her? >> We'll call her in a second. Say, >> I'll tell you the truth, though. Despite pleading that she only wanted to verify the check, officers arrested her for felony grand theft. In the end, she was sentenced to 2 years of probation and left with a criminal record instead of $9,000 in cash. Always verify unexpected checks before acting. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Blind trust in strangers or old contacts can turn a lucky break into a criminal charge. This shoplifter is already a mess. Do you agree with this opinion? Tell it in the comment section. Oh god. 664 26. >> On March 16th, 2025, police approached a woman suspected of shoplifting at Walmart, detained her, and escorted her to the loss prevention office for questioning. >> Our told us to come, so he's on the other side. Hi man, how are you? >> You mind walking up here with us real quick? >> Good. Grab her arm. Right now you are just being detained. Okay. >> Oh god. 6426. We're going to walk up to the loss prevention office. Okay. [Music] >> Sorry. I keep feeling like I walked back. >> No, you're good. You're good. >> Why is everybody waiting for >> I don't know. Probably because there was no in talk person the other day. >> All right. Go and take a seat for us. M you want to prosecute. >> All right. Do you have a ID on you? >> I'm going to take everything out of your pockets. Okay. >> Stand up for me. Go ahead and >> Officers search her belongings, ask about concealed items, and confirm she is in custody. >> You don't have any whatever's on her toothpaste. >> I'm going to clip this from you. >> Okay. [Music] Yeah. Hold on one second. >> Yeah. She hadn't done a shop thing, so I was like, >> we were going to go to the lady with no clothes on. >> That'll be interesting to see what that is. >> Yeah. >> I wonder if they meant like no shirt physically, but she had a bra or something. >> You have what? >> Pockets down there. >> Somebody stole her shirt. Do you have anything in your bra? >> Okay, I'm going to grab it and pull it. Okay. >> Okay, >> I'll turn around. >> Go and have a seat here for me. [Music] So he said she she is in custody. So >> the woman has read her Miranda rights and asked if she understands them. >> You can anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have a right to a lawyer. If you cannot afford to hire a lawyer, one will be appointed to to represent you before any questioning if you wish. Even if you don't want a lawyer now and agree to talk with us, you can at any time change your mind and ask for a lawyer or stop talking with us. >> Do you understand each of these rights as I have explained to you? >> Having these rights in mind, do you wish to talk to us? >> Okay. Got any questions? I just have to get this and I can get you a >> We gave it to him. Yep. >> Didn't you get her name? >> What's her name? >> H. [Music] >> What's your birthday? What's a uh what's a phone number for you? >> So, do I give you this one or >> just give me a personal phone number? >> Okay. >> 3 4 >> Officers confirm she is already barred from Walmart and issue a criminal trespass charge in addition to shoplifting. They also discover she has a warrant in another county for a prior shoplifting incident. you uh we assume you are barring mister. >> Yes. I think she's already >> you already borrowed from here. Mhm. >> So you're also going to get criminal trespass. Do you want to start the barring over from today though? >> Okay. >> And you got a warrant out of car county. >> I got a warrant. >> Mhm. >> How? >> For shoplifting. >> That's today. >> No, that ain't today. >> I took a warrant out of you for a previous shop. >> Yeah, you got a warrant for shoplifting. Judge sign it. [Music] >> So if the judge sign it, that means like missing quarters. >> No. So somebody probably saw >> it up here. >> So if they if they've caught you on video and if they've caught you on video and they call officers out here to do a report and somebody's recognizes you, >> they can go sign warrants on you and then when we get out with you, that's when you're like, "Oh, you shoplifted on this day." You should that >> police explain how warrants are issued. based on video evidence and signed by judges. They clarify her outstanding warrant details. >> This is some other time. There's a warrant that was issued for your arrest. >> So, were you Did you hear that? >> Yeah. >> You already got warrants. >> Uh-huh. [Music] 10. We're clear. [Music] So, it was $22. Beth, am I reading that correct? >> $20.88. We don't do the tax. >> Gotcha. Okay. So, 288. I >> like your nails. >> It will tell y'all, right? Whenever whenever I go. Well, not y'all. Whenever I go, I have to ask somebody else like when I get to the job, >> like where the warrant was from. >> Uh, I'm sure on the warrant. It'll say it on the warrant where Yeah. >> Sure. when they when they have they have the Mhm. >> Okay. >> You could ask them and they'll be able to tell you. We just don't know >> cuz I don't have the warrant in hand. They just tell us that you have it and that it's been confirmed. So, >> perfect. While you're out there, can you double Can you see if the criminal history is there yet? >> Okay. So, if I got So, I overheard y'all say um if this after three >> Yeah. Have you been convicted of shoplifting before? So, he was saying convicted as in going to court and >> and they're saying you were guilty. Yes. Um >> the woman admits to being on probation for a prior shoplifting conviction. Officers warned that three or more convictions escalate shoplifting to a felony regardless of the item's value. >> I'm on probation for one right now. That's one. The the other one I haven't went to court and took in any plea deal for >> Okay. So, so it has to be convictions. So, that means like you said like you've pled to it. you said, "I'm guilty of this." Um, if there's three, you you become a felon. It becomes a felony. Even if it's 25 cents that you stole. >> Um, now if if you have 12 pending, >> you know what I mean? When you go to court, they could bump it to a fel, you know what I mean? Like, cuz you're repeat offender at that point. Um, but that'll be up to the, you know, solicitor's office and stuff like that, not us. >> Okay. I'll >> Yeah. So, we'll check it. It's we have a criminal history. So that shows us everything that you've ever been arrested for, speeding ticket, anything. Um so we'll see if it if there's three or more convictions. This will be a felony today and it'll be a felony charge. >> So what's going to happen? >> Well, you're catching what? >> Two more charges. You're getting shoplifting again. >> She is informed she will face multiple new charges. Shoplifting, trespass, and the outstanding warrant, which will likely lead to a probation violation. >> Mhm. >> You're getting the trespass. You're going on your warrant. So, which is going to violate your probation. >> So, >> because you don't have a probation violation yet because of the fact that they just signed the warrant. So, once they see that you've been in jail, they're going to violate your probation. >> So, you'll probably end up sitting there too for that. If not, you might get out and then probably go right back for the probation violation. So, it just depends on if your probation offer catch catches it. >> What's the address here? What's the number? >> Um, what's it 4375? >> 4375. Lexington Road. You have any kids or anything? >> Okay. >> First one was December 12th. No, December 1st, 25 of TJ Maxx 23. >> Officers confirm she has three warrants total. Two for shoplifting. One for trespass and multiple prior cases with at least two confirmed convictions. >> Yes. >> December. >> Mhm. >> TJ Maxim. I did my probation. I was going to say nothing. >> So he just signed him on January 6th. >> Okay. >> Or maybe >> Well, you have she doesn't have a probation violation. So her probation doesn't uh >> So they were signed on March 6th, a week ago. >> So you have three warrants for shoplifting. >> Well, two for shoplifting, one for the trespass. >> So any convictions? >> I think it's Sure. Can you step out there and she's doing this? >> Okay. >> Two previous. >> So actual convictions, >> but she's got like 12 pages. >> She said nine times here >> at least. >> There you go, man. >> Thank you. >> All right, let's go ahead and get her out to the jail. We'll sign out when we get to the jail, too. >> You ready? >> Police prepare paperwork, confirm the case will go through state court, and arrange her transport to jail. Yep. Did you hear that? >> Yeah, I did. But >> All right. You don't have anything on you, right? We already searched her. >> Let me just double check that >> note. Yep. All right. Go ahead. Take a seat for me. >> All right. [Music] This is what this is. Oh. State court. >> Yep. You put state court. >> I fixed it. >> Perfect. [Music] >> Grab that. >> All right. >> Yeah. >> So, it could be the warrant from that. You see what I mean? >> It might not be a new warrant. It's probably just a warrant due to that situation. You have anything? No, tell her tell her what you did. Accountability, right? Walmart. >> Come on. >> And she's barred from Walmart for a ceiling already. >> Come on. >> All right. Um, >> the ABR. >> Thank you. I just draw a blank. Oh, I'm sorry. Here's her stuff. Oh, and instead of getting her to sign this, you'll just write in custody here. >> Or you could wait until she's done. You can let her sign it when she takes her >> off custody on her >> and then she said she was on probation. >> Does she not have a license? >> No. >> You don't have one at all? >> They finalize custody forms, collect her belongings, and note she has no driver's license. She was charged with shoplifting, criminal trespass, and arrested on outstanding shoplifting warrants. Even small thefts can lead to serious charges and probation violations if you're a repeat offender. Breaking trespass bands or ignoring warrants only makes the legal consequences much worse. What an unyielding shoplifter. The next shoplifter will react much more violently, so keep an eye out. >> Never come back closer to this target in this area. Nothing. Like I don't know if they racist or what. I don't know what I'm for real. Because y'all literally see me. I walk past y'all in y'all's face like I look out. >> On March 9th, 2025, Oakland police responded to a Target retail theft report. A woman concealed items in a tote bag and bypassed the checkout without paying. Loss prevention detained her until police arrived. The suspect, Tquisha, denied stealing, claiming she was only looking for her cousin, who supposedly had her phone, Apple Pay. She insisted she hadn't left the store and offered to pay. >> Like, you guys are in trouble. Like, you guys might just get a slap on the wrist for a ticket, but you guys are not going to be arrested, right? So, it was alerted to them. Other than that, they're just going to get your information and then it will be good to go. >> So, they were caught basically shoving like a bunch of like clothing in a bag that they took from a bus and then they Got to walk out. >> All right. >> Why are you saying that? >> No, we didn't walk out. >> So, basically, one of the times I can hear cuz you're walking on. So, go. Let me let me You guys >> Teha attempted to avoid blame by pointing to her cousin, insisting she wasn't stealing, but only looking for the person who had her phone and Apple Pay. Yet, her following remarks only deepened the officer's suspicions. So basically I was looking for my cousin. My cousin walked out from me. >> And is this your cousin? >> Yes. My phone is dead. She has the money up on her Apple Pay. So I'm looking for her around the store. I see her downstairs right there by the escalator. I'm telling her to come pay for the stuff. I'm walking down. They say come here. I come here. I'm applying with you guys. I say they say, "Yeah, you can't just walk past the thing. It's a policy where you just can't walk past the thing." I tell them, "I was looking for my cousin. My phone is there. I'm trying to pay for my merchandise." They say, "Well, we have." >> She argued that she didn't know passing the registers counted as theft. Repeating that she wasn't a booster and had no reason to steal since she owned a $3,000 Chanel purse. >> Do what they say. I tell them, "Can I pay for my stuff?" Cuz I'm not trying to leave out the door. I was looking for my clothing. My phone is clearly dead. She has my money up on her. >> So, like all of that is just >> This is my favorite Target. Do you see? I don't steal. I have on a $3,000 purse. I'm a steal. This my favorite target. Like that's what I'm trying to explain to them. He just sat up here and listened to our whole story when y'all came in. It was just a whole completely different story. It's just like >> I was just trying to make it a quick story. That's >> No, that's not a quick story. You literally just listen everything what you wanted to say. But on my end, when I was walking, I have to pay for I lost my mailbox to keep trying to walk out. But I have the app on my phone to pay for everything. You get what I'm saying? But I ended up walking off because I realized that my key wasn't on my thing. I've been looking for it and I realized that it failed. So I was down there looking for my key. But I have to pay for the things because >> by the carts. >> Yeah. Downstairs. >> Okay. >> Yeah. So her phone is dead. I have everything on my phone to pay for. I just asked them, but she was looking for me. She couldn't call me. She couldn't do anything. I walked out. >> They acted like I walked towards the door. I didn't even walk towards the door. >> So just so you I'm just going to explain to you how the law works and what the problem. So, anytime you walk walk past the last point of purchase, which is all upstairs, >> and come downstairs, >> you technically have committed a theft, >> right? >> She never walked downstairs. >> She turned me around. She walked downstairs. >> They turned me around basically saying, "You can't pass this because that's basically the stealing." I said, "Oh, I'm sorry. I was just looking for my cousin." So, she >> Police reviewed surveillance footage which contradicted her story. Video showed her with her cousin trying to sneak merchandise out while checking surroundings. That's how we shot. So, I don't know if they taking it as otherwise or whatever the case may be. I'm still trying to pay for my stuff. I don't >> officers informed her she was under arrest for retail theft. She protested, insisting she wasn't stealing and didn't understand the law. >> What's the problem? >> You're under arrest for retail. >> Why am I didn't take I didn't leave out the door. >> Like, I'm able to pay for my stuff. That's what I'm telling them. Like I never >> purchase. Okay. >> But sir, I didn't leave out the door. >> I was looking for my cousin. >> You went past the last part. >> But I didn't know that. I didn't like I didn't know that that was going to like you have to leave physically leave out the door. >> I didn't know. No, I'm >> Did you get my >> You want >> like it's no big thing that I can talk to the manager because I literally didn't know like I didn't know that I was going to get in trouble for looking for my cousin. Like I wasn't trying to steal I literally was >> She tried to have her purse and phone handed to her cousin instead of being processed with her belongings, showing concern about her property. >> There's no way that she could just get my purse. Well, it's your property, so >> I know, but I want her to keep my property. I want her to keep my property and my phone. >> She going to stay with you. >> I don't want to process my things. >> Once you get out, you literally get your purse. >> I know, but I don't want to process my things. I want to give my things to my >> cuz I know like the situation going on. Can I just check if there's anything in there and then just give >> anything? What? >> I said, "Can y'all just like Cuz I understand the whole phone." >> No, I want you to take my phone away. Listen, can you just check it? See if there's anything in there and then just give it right back to me. That's it. Right. >> Teesha claimed she had no criminal record. Planned to hire a lawyer and argued she wouldn't steal in front of so many security guards, even mentioning she had just attended church that morning. >> And I'm getting a lawyer. >> I'm getting a lawyer for sure. >> Okay. And for you guys, but the pastor >> you said initially cuz you say everything was fine. The same for all you need. >> Yeah, I got it. Thank you. >> Get my phone. And we have his ID. >> Take it out and get this over with. >> Can I get um >> Yes, please get >> Please. All that cash in your purse. >> Yes, that's what I'm saying. I have money to buy. I wasn't about to steal nothing. >> The losses once you pass the last point. >> I don't know what a loss, but I wasn't stealing nothing. They It's a billion people around me looking at me. Why would I get like >> a million people up in here looking at me? I seen I seen every last security guard. I'm sorry. I seen every last security guard standing right here. Like I literally walk right past them in front of their face. All I see is they like, "Come here. Come here." And I'm not trying to apply. Like I see y'all in my face. I'm telling y'all. My cousin is right there. I'm trying to get her so she can pay for my stuff. She didn't know I was at the She didn't know I was about to walk to the restaurant. None of that. She in a whole another different area from this crazy. He just went to church this morning. I don't like this crazy never come back. Evidence confirmed she stole 17 clothing items, a Stanley water bottle, and a lunch bag totaling $48249 dons. Items were concealed in her tote bag, making it a felony. Retail theft value exceeded $300. >> And I'm telling y'all what I'm trying to do. >> You don't hear the search. >> Doesn't look like she has anything on her. >> Back again. Hello. >> Central 311 311. I'll be in route with the female 37379.9. >> She was processed, then released under a site and release order and must appear at the Bridge View Courthouse for further proceedings. Even with excuses, surveillance and law make the truth clear. Passing the last point of purchase is theft. Trying to justify or downplay it only adds to the consequences. But this is still not the worst case. Just wait until you see this next one. Do you want to talk about the truth or do you want to because the truth will set you free? I'm a reasonable person and when there's no victim, there's no crime. >> On April 11th, 2024, police received a report about a Staple store general manager accused of running an elaborate scheme. Investigators say he managed to steal more than $30,000 before his actions finally caught up with him. >> Got a GM. >> Mhm. my uh he just went on LOA. >> Okay. >> What is that? >> 29th leave of absence. >> Okay. >> I request to the store to this GM, send me your guard log that shows their sign for it. Garter comes picks them up once a week >> and then our weekly deposit log. So he sends that to me and they look fine. Look like they're picked up and gone. So I'm thinking, "Oh, it's not our fault. Must be the Garta." >> They have a camera system. So I have to verify and confirm. Right. So I'm watching it and in any given week you got seven business days. Carter comes once a week so he gets seven business days. >> So they should pick up a minimum of of seven bags. >> Mhm. >> So guard comes in. They're supposed to pick up seven bags. He scans six. It's clear as a day in the >> the record showed seven bags. Yet surveillance footage revealed the guard only ever received six. That left just one possible suspect, the general manager. >> The guy I'm suspicious of. It's so obvious. I'll show you a clip. >> Okay. >> The GM, he's got a problem. There's no question about this. Everybody, I mean, I talked to the the key holders. I go, "Anything different going on?" That's another story. That's He says he's in the hospital. He's in rehab. Anyway, the way it's set up, it's motion activated. So, as soon as that door comes open, the the video backs up maybe 2 seconds. >> Mhm. >> And then it it it starts recording. >> Okay. >> And then you see the door open, you see the people come in. What he does is he uses this prop right there. He used that once. This is This is lost and found stuff that shouldn't have been down there, but this envelope was in there and he's he has no reason to really go in there unless a customer says, "Hey, I left my passport here and just went in there." But this is so out of policy, it's not even funny. >> The general manager tried to outsmart the system by positioning himself just out of the camera's view while slipping deposit money into a lost and found envelope. From there, he'd quietly carry the cash into his office. [Music] Pants. >> What's your name, sir? >> Anthony. >> Anthony. You're under arrest. You have You have an arrest warrant. Okay. >> Is there any guns in here? No, sir. >> Okay. Just stay right where you're at. >> You're under arrest for felony charges out of the city of West Palm Beach and referenced in fraudulent. Nope. That was for That was for Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. >> Yes. So, charges city of West Palm Beach. Come on out. >> Come on out. No. Come on out. Well, put your hands on top of the car. We'll back charges. >> They're new. They're new. >> You You got arrested on the 12th >> for Palm Beach County. That was for schemes of defraud and using other people's property, things like that. This is for something completely different. >> Anthony was visibly stunned. After taking a leave of absence, he returned to work as if nothing had happened. And with no one mentioning the investigation, he likely believed he had gotten away with it. Um, so I'm recording. Um, I'm the detective assigned to this investigation. Okay. Uh, you understand that you're obviously under arrest. You have the right, >> right, >> to remain silent. Um, that anything you say may and will be used against you. >> Do you understand that? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. Right now, it's the time for me to ask you questions and for you to answer whatever you want to answer. >> Okay. Uh the allegations are that were you an employee of Staples? >> Yeah, I work for Staples. >> Okay. And then what's your date of birth, Anthony? >> Um how long do you work for Staples? >> I work for Staples. I started with them in New York um in uh April 2023. >> Anthony claimed his 3-month absence was due to a medical condition brought on by jobreated stress. However, based on his explanation, the workload didn't appear to be any more demanding than what most corporate managers typically face. >> What was it about the job that you don't have to tell them about your physical ailments, but what was it about the job that would make you physically ill? >> So, um just uh very um strenuous uh shifts. There was a lot. The company went through some very major um realignments and shifts, changes to their operation structures and personnel structures, functional structures of personnel. You know, I was um brought there under the pretense and and agreement. Part of why I accepted it was because I was told it was a turnkey operation and then that it was going to be um transitioning to a growth market model. So upon going there and we we started getting bombarded with um very high level um visits from corporate from all over the country um you know from the investment group and with that leading up to it it would be fire drills to just prep make preparations clean the store get all things just perfect and I mean working open to close for days weeks at a time for that >> Anthony seemed to think the job would be a breeze until the corporate visits. Fire drills, endless cleaning, and other responsibilities piled up. It appeared he just couldn't handle the pressure. >> A particular location and area in the surrounding stores hadn't gone through the transition. I'm just trying to set the >> So, so you have a stressful job. I have a stressful job. People have stressful jobs. >> Do you have any idea >> and and just >> this is the time where you can help yourself, >> right? Is you have any idea why a detective will be talking to you right now? And before you answer, please please >> do you have any idea why I will be here talking to you specific to Staples? >> No, sir. No. >> How many people had access and a key to the cash room at Staples? >> I'd say other than myself, there were I think four. >> Four other people. Okay. I mean, and that's just during that time, mind you, like I was telling you before, there were many visits with many managers at different level. >> He quickly tried to spin the story, suggesting that any senior manager who visited the store could have access that room. What Anthony didn't realize though was that surveillance footage clearly showed him tampering with the safe >> very frequent. >> Okay. the allegations is that there's money missing and just before you answer >> I've been working this case now for quite some time right okay so the allegations would you know what there will be any allegations that there will be money missing from the cash room of Staples >> I can tell you what I am privy to regarding um the discre discrepancies because I was involved with investigating them um probably I don't remember how long before I went out sick, but um I remember we provided all the information and the the uh you know the uh armored carrier uh logs and you know just everything that went along with that and at at that point um you know that's as far as I was um involved with that. When officers revealed the real reason for his arrest, Anony's stuttering grew worse and he struggled to string together a clear sentence. Watch closely. The officer even removes his glasses to lock eyes with him before delivering the ultimate question. >> They um hadn't received um uh deposits that were >> Did you ever did you ever take any money from Staples in before you answer that? I've been dealing with this for now a few months. Mhm. >> Did you ever take any cash deposits from Staples? >> I did not take any cash deposits from Staples. And I understand. >> Anybody else take cash deposits from Staples? >> Not to my knowledge. Not that I've seen or I'm aware of. >> Okay. So, if there's video of you >> walking out of that cash room >> with cash deposits, >> you're saying that that video would not be truth. I'm saying that that's not what it I did not take any cash deposits out of Staples now. And I was I explained over the phone. >> Anthony defended himself by saying he worked hard on organizing the lost and found, which he claimed was stored at the bottom of the same safe used for deposits. >> Did Did I go in there and take money out of there? I mean, I I you know, I've been I've been going through enough and it it's been hard enough like what what's been going on. We see I was working open to close for for months on end since I started there. No days off and my family is out here. We haven't we were we weren't even able to settle into a permanent home yet. I have seven kids. Did my job. Did everything I was asked. Gone to other locations to help. >> Do you want to be truthful today or am I just going to listen to you talk? Do you want to talk about the truth or do you want to because the truth will set you free, I'm a reasonable person and when there's no victim, there's no crime, Anthony. So if Staple decides not to be a victim any longer, you're not going to see Detective Palasios anymore. But if I'm going to sit here and I'm going to have to accept you lying to me, I think that's a little bit unfair. I think that's disrespectful and we'll just we'll just leave it at that and you stick to your story. Anthony stuck to his story of innocence right up until the end. Even when confronted with multiple videos showing him taking the money, ultimately he was arrested and charged with felony grand theft and scheme to defraud. No scheme stays hidden forever. Surveillance and persistence will catch up with you. Even if you dodge jail, a felony record follows you for life. Comment your opinion about the case in the comment section.
