me. >> Just talk to her. >> No, let go me. >> All right. >> Let go of me right now. >> [ __ ] >> You guys don't even have to arrest me. >> Do you want to talk about the truth or do you want to Because the truth will set you free. I'm a reasonable person. And when there's no victim, there's no crime at it. >> There's something undeniably satisfying about seeing the panic wash over a criminal's face. that split second when they realize they didn't actually get away with it. Their whole demeanor shifts to pure regret as the cops come out of nowhere and shut it all down. >> We never visit again. Can you please leave us? >> No, that's not how it works. Unfortunately, we have to arrest you. Okay. It's there's no it's not like a >> we'll give you a chance. It's not that's not how it works. On March 19th, 2024, two female foreign exchange graduate students were stopped by police after being identified as repeat shoplifting offenders at a local store. How are you? >> Thank you. >> Oh, wow. They're long. They're very long. >> How you doing? >> How you doing? Date of birth next to it. Just this row seat combined. >> Yes. 155. >> Okay. >> They're they're repeat offenders. Not this time. >> Repeat. >> Yeah. They didn't get caught last time cuz they got spooked. They just dropped them right now. >> Gotcha. >> All right. Um, same thing. >> Just so everybody knows our body cams on. Okay. >> Okay. Uh, we just like >> came out to purchase a Pepsi outside Pepsi. Everything was there, right? >> Yes, we were. >> We forgot the Pepsi to take inside. We going to build like few things. When we came out to take Pepsi going to build all the cart. >> Yeah. >> In between he came >> to you. Basically what they did is to get the Pepsi. They had everything outside the door at the entrance. >> They had everything outside of the >> No, they had everything outside the outside bag and then they went into the house. What was I think >> the women claim they only intended to step outside briefly to get a Pepsi and forgot to pay for the rest of the items >> there only. Wait, do you have the footage? >> Yeah, let's just watch it together. >> We have paid for limited like >> Can I just close the door, sir? Close it. Close the door. You can stay. I'm just asking you to close the door. Thank you. 10 jersey uniform. >> They brought the outside bags in is what you're saying. And they put stuff in the bags. Yeah, they put in the reusable bag. I feel the same right there. Same thing. When questioned, they admit to paying for some items, but not all, claiming they had limited funds. Officers reject this excuse, pointing out inconsistencies >> for some things in your cart and some things were unpaid. >> Yeah. Okay. And then you walked out. >> Not walked out. We're going to take pap outside big bottles there. We're going to we going to pay everything. >> And you were going to come back in to pay. Yes. >> Okay. Well, you walked out. >> But we do have an >> What Pepsi are you talking about? >> Sorry. >> What Pepsi are you talking about? >> Pepsi bottles at at the entrance. Entrance. We have few lace and chips kind of thing, right? >> Few items outside. >> What is she talking about >> in in the lobby? You guys have chips and Pepsi out in the So you went outside with the cart after paying. But why did you pay for a couple things and then because we forgot the items? >> You forgot the entire items that you also got. >> Yeah, I'm sorry. That's not believable. >> So if you didn't have money to pay for it all at one time, where's your money going to come from? >> I have. >> She have. >> I have. >> So then why didn't you pay when you paid for the other things? what to when to bring a Pepsi. We forgot the items which are outside. >> That makes no sense. >> I'm serious. >> That makes absolutely no sense. Just so that you know. That sounds crazy. You're making up excuses. You just admit that you were you tried to pay for half and leave for half. That's what it is. If you if you had the money, you should have paid for everything. Put it in your car, came back in for the Pepsi. >> Oh my god. She have money. >> It doesn't matter. There's people that steal that have $7, $800 on them. Yeah, he said >> you guys have done this before here though. >> I am not. I said be not. >> Okay. >> This was like maybe >> And it was reported. >> I was like, "No, I never got to report cuz I was going home." So, they >> show them paying for half and then leaving. >> Police informed the women that partial payment does not excuse theft. Both are told they will be arrested for shoplifting banned from the store. >> Yes. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Okay. So, so what happened? So, what happens is you paid for half in your cart that was unpaid items. No, that's not how it works. You're getting arrested. You're coming down to the police station. You're going to sign a form. You are no longer allowed to come to shop, right? The shop, right? You're not welcome here anymore. >> So, there's no there's Yeah, there's no debate. >> First and then you guys will have >> There's no debate. You guys are getting arrested. We are going to handcuff you. We are going to search your person. Anything that's on you, we're going to put Excuse me, I'm talking. >> We'll take your information. We'll bring you down to headquarters. We're going to type up charges. We're going to send it to the courts. Sometimes the courts will let you go free with a court date. Sometimes you go to jail. That's up to them to decide. >> Uh can I >> uh we have an ID >> like college ID card? Okay. >> Okay. That's okay. I'll take your information. You have a social security number? >> No. >> Okay. So, we'll take your information. We'll run we'll we'll try to get as much information from you and and get >> the suspects present college ID cards but no government IDs or social security numbers. Officers explain they will be booked, fingerprinted, and given a court summon. >> Get you in the system. Have you been arrested before? >> No. >> No. >> Nothing. >> So, most likely you'll be able to leave today after we do your paperwork on a summon, which is a paper which is a court date. >> Give you a court date. Okay. But for now, what we need you to do is sign the papers saying that you're not going to return papers in front of you. Sign them with your name and we're going to arrest you. We're going to bring you to >> this is what they paid for. Okay. Everything that you paid for these two items. >> You understand that? >> So, please, ma'am, sign the papers and then this we can take these. That's theirs. >> That's why I'm doing the restaurant. Either way, >> you're you're being recorded. So, you sign the paper say that you will not come to the shop ever again. >> Please sign the paper. >> Oh, do I need to write my name? >> No, just put the the >> signature. Yes. >> With the X's. Yep. He made a selfie. Let me see. Yeah, I had both of them. >> What uh what time did they try what time did they come to me? What time did they try to leave? You know, >> so she actually popped up in face first. So >> face like that. So that's 580. That's when they enter. Okay. >> And then 505. >> 605. >> Yeah. 65. >> Officers search the women, collect their personal belongings, and ask about their residence and transportation. >> You know what time it is? >> I hope it's time. Is it? >> No, it's not. It's not even 6. >> No. Yeah. All right. So, yeah. Yeah. Right here. 48. >> We'll give you a chance. That's not how it works. >> Double charges. >> That doesn't matter. You can offer as much money as you want, but you still have to get arrested for the charges for the crime you committed. That's not how it works. You can't just >> You should have to pay for it. >> Can you please stand up for me? >> We don't want to make this hard or difficult. Let's just >> You stand. You sit. Sit. We'll do one at a time. Do >> you have anything on you or No. Sorry. >> Anything in your pockets? Pockets? No. Okay. >> Put your phone. I'm going to put your phone in this bag. Okay. Is that okay? >> Can you just put this on? >> You stand with me. Do you have anything in your pockets? >> No, I don't have much. >> Do you guys live in Hoboken? >> Uh, New York City Heights. >> Okay. So, he's in Jersey City. >> How'd you get here today? A car. >> You walked from the heights. Came here. >> Okay. >> You don't have any. >> At headquarters, police explain the legal process, fingerprinting, photographing, and checking for prior charges. They clarify that walking out of a store with unpaid items. >> We're going to get inside. >> We're going to um just search you one more time. I know we just searched you in there, but we have to do a more thorough search. Um then we're going to fingerprint you and photograph you. You're going to give us your information. We're going to search the database to see if there's any charges before on you. Um and then we're going to charge you with shoplifting. And then you will um that complaint will be sent to the court system and the courts will let us know whether that you will be released after today with a court date and a summon a charge or if you will be sent to the jail for the night. If you are sent to county um you will be brought to Hudson County Correctional Facility where you will stay for the rest of today into tomorrow and usually you see a judge in the morning. If if you have no criminal record, like you're saying, if you have no charges, then most likely you'll just receive a court date with your shoplifting charge and you'll be released today in a couple hours. >> Okay. >> Well, that's that's something that you can tell. Police warned that this new arrest will be added to their criminal record and could affect future job prospects or visa status, noting that repeated offenses lead to jail time. >> Over here, please. Okay. Okay. >> All right. So, last location Come on. >> Take a seat. Take a seat. You stand now. He's safe. >> But in the aim system, use that original case number that I gave you. >> All right. When I copy, you're going to put your hands on the wall. >> Case number. Do you want to go to that previous? >> No, I I thought we did that. No, that's fine. We'll document it in our report. I'll just tell you >> that. What? >> Limo Charlie Fox 7498 Fox 7498. Officers process the women at the station complete paperwork and prepare them for detention while reminding them of the serious consequences of repeat offenses. Even small acts of dishonesty can have serious legal consequences. Always take responsibility and act with integrity. Excuses won't undo a crime. What an unyielding shoplifter. The next shoplifter will react much more violently, so keep an eye out. >> Don't want to mess up your watch. >> Mhm. >> What in the world did I do? >> On August the 9th, 2023, officers responded to Target after reports of a woman linked to 35 prior incidents was caught attempting to steal once again. >> Grocery right now. So, we're going to go straight to the office. uccessful and I'm going to explain a little better. Uh he's a known subject as I think he said 100 I think is what he said to >> well for the case for the case. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> How about now? >> Uh now I'm unsure. I don't think she's going to try to push out. I think it's >> um >> he knows more about it than I do. >> Yeah. Hey guys, how's it going? >> What's up? >> Got a lady. She ticket switches stuff. She's she ticket switches like um >> she ticket switches using stock barcodes usually. >> A little bit um >> what was it based on? >> Like 2400. Okay. >> We have a name for her. I'm not sure if it's 100% accurate, but we have her as thema grant. Delma Grant. >> Yes, >> that's a old name. >> Yeah, she's an old lady. I don't feel bad for her, though. She's She knows what she's doing. Like, she's been doing this for a while. Like, just to give you some insight. $2,400 in the >> How many? Oh, 32 incences. >> Yeah. So, she's been doing this for a while. See, usually what she does is she grabs like little stock barcodes that are like a dollar, a little bit less. She'll put that on whatever else she's buying. She swapped cheap price tags onto expensive items trying to outsmart the system, but Target was already on to her. >> Is she a nurse? >> I have no idea. I know the last time she came in though, she was wearing scrubs, so that's kind of how I picked up on her today. I was like, "Okay, same scrubs." >> She's she's been hitting us forever. Like her incident started 2020, so she's been doing it for 3 years now. I think she's doing the switching in there where she's changing the barcodes out is what she did. She selected like an abundance of those, >> but she just tape them on. >> Well, they're sticky is what it is. So, um those 50 cent cups and the 50 cent bowls, like the little plastic ones. >> Oh, yeah. >> She selected a lot of those. So, what I'm thinking, what she's probably doing is taking the barcodes off of those and putting them >> putting them onto the apparel items that she selected and the other stuff so she can pay 50 cents for those. Oh, no. No. We'll get her um once she pays at the POS and once she exits, we have to like target makes us let them leave. That way it shows like there's no possible way they could have intended to properly pay. Like that's why they call it the last point of sale. Like there's no way that she could have paid proper. >> She'd been running this scam since 2020, racking up over $2,400 in fake discounts. Not exactly the kind of savings you brag about. >> I just needed to get out of the room at this point. And like I showed them, I've got 30 plus incidents of her switching barcodes. So, I know you guys technically could pull her for defacing the merchandise, but we don't want to do that cuz it's just Target won't let us do that. >> Mhm. >> But my boss did give us permission like if she for some reason like maybe sees the cop car or something, she abandons it. We will we can't for trespass. >> All right. So, oh yeah, she's taking we're good. >> So, see that? Look at that's a big black bowl that she scanned. That's a small white little cup that she stands. So, we're good. >> Let's just wait till she passes off points of sale. >> Can you guys tell the difference? So, you see that's a big black bowl and this is like a small white cup. >> And then you should see her do it here again. >> And the little paper bowls. Yeah. So, she's still doing the cup. So, we're good. We just need her to leave now. Perfect. This is >> I wonder what she did with the cups. >> She dumped. Target's policy says they can't act until a suspect finishes paying and exits. So, officers waited while Theelma did her thing. >> Go ahead. I I'll take your lead. Got it. >> Excuse me. >> Hey, ma'am. Drop your phone for me. >> Uhhuh. >> Drop your phone for me. >> Yes. >> You're under arrest right now. Okay. Place your hands, please. Place your hands behind your back. We'll tell you as soon as you're uncuffed. >> What I did? >> We'll tell you as soon as you're cuffed. What did I do? >> What's you just let me get some handcuffs on you and then um >> we'll bring you back and we'll explain everything. >> Yeah. >> Sorry. What did I do, sir? >> Well, I'll let you know. Just let me get these cuffs on you real quick. >> Don't want to mess up your watch. >> Mhm. >> What in the world did I do? >> We'll explain. Just give us a second. >> Would you like me to grab your cell phone for you? >> Yes. >> Did I do, man? We'll explain it in the office. Okay. >> You want to move it over there? >> Did you want me to disconnect the call? >> Yes. >> How did I do it? >> I'll take your purse, Miss >> Okay. >> So, >> the loss prevention officer is going to explain everything to you. >> Yes. >> Um, we're just going to sit down, have a conversation, and >> he'll explain everything. >> Right. Cuz I didn't do I mean, for y'all to come up and just handcuff me like that in front of everyone, and I didn't do anything. >> Explain everything back here. How you all going to handcuff me? >> Have a seat over here on the the bench for me. >> Yes, >> that's good. You can sit there or there either way. >> Yeah, I don't want to sit down. >> Have a seat. >> I don't want to sit down, sir, because this this hurt me. It hurt my arm. >> So, switching switching the barcodes switching the barcodes of an item is a crime. >> I didn't switch no barcode. >> I have you on camera, ma'am. And we have >> What did you do, sir? You didn't see me switching nothing. I didn't switch no barcode anywhere. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Sir, show me, please. >> I have I have it right here. They They've seen it. They >> sir. No. Uh-uh. You You need to show me. Show me. What did I do? >> You don't need to show. >> Okay. >> Show me. What did I do? >> You switched the barcodes of the items that you rang over. This is just the barcode. >> Sir, I promise you I didn't switch no barcode. >> I We have it on. >> Sir, I didn't switch no barcode. >> What's your name? >> I didn't switch no barcode. >> Okay. >> Even with crystal clear video proof, she stuck to her story, claiming she was just looking for the right size. Ma'am, that's not how barcodes work. >> Only thing I came here to do, I first I came here, I was going to um change my pajamas, >> but I didn't have I couldn't get into the chime. >> What time like a pajamas? >> Yes, I I had I bought me some pajamas. >> Yeah, but then when I got to the register, um she told me it was fine for me to go ahead and put that in there. I don't have anything else. >> Wait, I was just looking for you got ID in here, man. >> No, my my um ID and everything is in the car. >> What's your name? >> And and then for you to go you you're not supposed to just search my clothes my um items. >> Well, you're arrested right now, ma'am. So, >> yes, but what I'm saying is arrested for what? >> Shoplifting. >> Shoplifting. >> Please sit down, >> sir. Show me proof that I shoplifted anything. >> We just told you, >> sir. I didn't I No, I did not. No, I did not. >> Okay. Have a seat for me. >> That Oh, hell. No. Uh-uh. Uhm. The only thing I did, I went and I bought what I had. I I was trying to get my money off the chime the whole time. >> What's your name? >> I'm not giving that information unless y'all tell me some stuff. >> We did. I'm trying to >> No. No. Y'all did not. The first thing y'all did was handcuff me. >> You're under arrest for shopping. >> How you under arrest? First of all, sir, look here. First of all, I didn't leave out the store with anything. And I didn't change no I didn't change no prices on anything. The only thing I did was scan what I had. >> When you were scanning things, they were It was coming up as a white plastic cup. >> Listen, I scanned what I had. You're not going to sit up here and tell me that I shoplifted anything. >> Okay? >> I scan the stuff that I had. >> That's something that if you wish to fight it in court, you can fight it in court. >> Oh, I'm definitely going to fight this in court. Okay, I'm definitely going to fight this in court now. >> What's your last name or someone? >> Not until y'all give me some information because this is not fair. >> We observed you bringing up items on the camera and we >> Man, I bring up everything. No, those are mine cuz my bag is in the car. Those are >> mine. Her selecting those on camera. >> Those are mine. >> I have no sir. First of all, you seen me get another size. That's what I did. And if you see me, if you see what I put it back. >> Okay. I'll tell you what. We won't need to prosecute for this then. We'll just prosecute >> because Yeah. Because the only thing you had to do is look and see that I was getting another size. That's all. >> I understand. >> And they didn't have another size. >> Okay. Okay. But you still switch merchandise today and that's what we're ordering. >> No. Uh-uh. >> Okay. And we have 30. >> And then And then you are not supposed to search my purse. This lady right here is supposed to search. >> No. >> If you would like me to search instead of individual Yes, ma'am. Because this is out of order right here. What they're doing. This is very much out of order. >> Do you want me to finish this? >> Uhuh. Put my stuff back in my purse. Put everything back in my purse because I'm not Uhuh. I'm I'm very This is very Uhhuh. Uh-uh. Mm- Mm- Sir, you can put my Those are mine items. >> These? >> Yes, those are mine. You can put it right back in my purse. >> Those might be hers. Put them back in there. But so we're not even going to prosecute on these. We're just going to prosecute >> prosecute. I didn't take anything, sir. >> Switch the barcode. >> Sir, I switched the barcode. Yes. First of all, I didn't switch any barcodes on anything. And I'm going to sue Target. Oh, heck no. Uh-uh. No. No. No. I'm going to I'm going to sue you all. I'm going to sue you all because this is not fair. This is not right. Nope. >> Okay. >> And then to have the police to come and handcuff me at the register around everybody. >> Okay. >> Oh, heck no. Uh-uh. >> All right. Didn't even Didn't even bring me back here. Didn't even bring me back here. You're going to come up there and handcuff me in front of everybody. >> Okay. Now, >> oh, I'm definitely going to get me a lawyer. >> I'm not talking to you because I didn't because you didn't do anything to me. >> Okay. >> You didn't You stood back. >> You're the reason why we're here. >> Listen, it doesn't matter, brother. He's the reason. I'm talking about what you all did. Just bam me out the store. >> Was doing that, too. I know that, but can he let me go? >> That's up to them, but I don't think they are. >> Sir, that's that's all I'm asking. Sir, >> we can't. >> Please, sir. Please, cuz this is going to be on me and I'm going to lose my job. I work at the hospital and date surgery. Please, >> I Please, sir. >> He's got to keep his job, too. >> I I understand that, but this judge it's their call. Through tears, Thelma pleaded with officers claiming to be a hospital worker and begging not to be arrested, fearing she'd lose her job. >> Please, sir, I won't step back in here. No way around it. Please, sir, if I lose my job, if this is only it, please. It took me so long to get this job. >> Please, sir. I'm just begging you. Please, just one. Just please just can can I just pay for the stuffing? Sir, >> I can't. Unfortunately, we've had 33 previous incidents of you doing this >> from And not in here. >> I do, >> sir. No, you Sir, I've never been Oh my god. >> You've never been to this store before? >> Is that what you're saying? >> I always shop in here. I live right down the street. >> Okay, >> sir. You have never caught me in no shoplifting or anything like that in here. >> I >> Oh my god. I can't believe this. I No. No, you did not. Uh-uh. Okay, sir. What? How much is the items? >> Oh my. I didn't Sir, I didn't even leave out the door. >> Yes, ma'am. >> I didn't leave the I didn't leave out the door. >> I understand. >> I didn't leave out the door. I didn't pay for anything or anything. >> It's 5926. >> Is that a misdemeanor or felony? >> It's a misdemean. >> Sir, please. Please. I'm going to lose my job. Please, sir. >> It's not It's not my choice. Well, whose choice is it? >> It's Target. >> Well, can you talk to Corpet, please? >> I call You heard me call them earlier and they What did they say? >> To arrest her. >> Yes. >> I have never been in this store getting caught for no shoplifting or anything. Sir, please. Can you please Sir, can I can I can I beg I beg you please. I have nobody to get me out on bond. Not only that, not only having this charge on me, I think >> but the law is the law. Thelma was charged with misdemeanor theft for a grand total of $5926 bots. Not exactly Oceanceans 11, but still a crime. >> I want to work tomorrow. Anything. >> Well, you didn't rob the store, but you were stealing product and look at I can see if if I was going out that door and y'all rang behind me and grabbed me or whatever. But you got me right at the register in front of everyone. You bum rushed me. You did this and that. And you could have called me, sir. Yes, you did. Yes, you weren't rough with me, sir. Sirite. Yes. No, y'all was not equally, you know. No, was not. No, you was not because my my granddaughter was on my granddaughter was on video. And the way that you all came up and grabbed me by my arm and janked it up like that in front of everybody and handcuffed me. You could have walked me in the back. >> No, ma'am. I don't know you from Adam. >> So, I have to treat you just like I would treat anybody else. No, you don't. >> Fairly impartially. >> No, no, you did not. No, you did not. And I'm not being ar I'm not being argumentative to you. I'm just upset and I'm embarrassed. >> I can understand that. >> I'm upset and I'm embarrassed. That's all. If they can't, then don't worry about it. As long as I know they um they bang it from here. >> Yes, ma'am. They did. And I'll go ahead and show you everybody that needed to signed off on it. So there's your name, your signature, the property manager name and signature, and that is my name and my signature. >> Okay, that's fine. >> All right, sign. >> It wasn't indefinite. >> Yes, ma'am. It is permanently. >> That's kind of harsh, isn't it? >> I didn't I didn't decide that. >> Sir, is that kind of harsh? >> What? >> Indefinite. >> It's not my choice. It's what? It's target procedure. >> You can sit my >> Yes, ma'am. So, this is a copy of the arrest report. >> You're going to create a copy of this and then there's going to be a case report number on here that you can pull from our system. >> Yes, sir. >> Oh, thank you so much. >> You got it? >> Yes. >> Let me uncip those for you real quick. >> These right here? >> Yeah. I'm going to just get them out your way. Okay. >> You look really nice with the purse. Do you want to help me with the seat belt? No problem. >> In the end, Thelma was only charged for that day's theft, despite her long history of prior incidents and over $2,400 in manipulated discounts. Even small thefts add up. Repeat offenses will eventually catch up with you. No matter how long you've gotten away with it, the truth always surfaces. If you like this video, please sign up for Law Zone to receive more. You stopped them where at >> the north ramp. They returned inside. We rang up the items, got the total. They've been very cooperative in terms of filling out paperwork. >> This receipt is what was uh >> Yes, the itemized items with the uh full dollar amount. >> Okay. >> That doesn't include the stuff that they did pay for. Have you ever been arrested before? >> No. My father's the police officer. >> Where? >> Oh, no. >> He's not going to be happy. >> Uh, I mean, you don't have to. You're an adult, right? >> Yeah. Must be the Garta." >> They have a camera system. So I have to verify and confirm, right? So I'm watching it and in any given week you got seven business days. Carter comes once a week. He gets seven business days. >> So they should pick up a minimum of of seven bags. >> So guard comes in. They're supposed to pick up seven bags. He scans six. It's clear as a day in the >> record showed seven bags. Yet surveillance footage revealed the guard only ever received six. That left just one possible suspect, the general manager. >> The guy I'm suspicious of. It's so obvious. I'll show you a clip. >> Okay. >> The GM, he's got a problem. There's no question about this. But this is so out of policy, it's not even funny. >> The general manager tried to outsmart the system by positioning himself just out of the camera's view while slipping deposit money into a lost and found envelope. From there, he'd quietly carry the cash into his office. What's your name, sir? >> Anthony. >> Anthony, you're under arrest. You have You have an arrest warrant. Okay. This is for something completely different. >> Anthony was visibly stunned. After taking a leave of absence, he returned to work as if nothing had happened. And with no one mentioning the investigation, he likely believed he had gotten away with it. Uh, so I'm recording. Um, I'm the detective assigned to this investigation. Okay. Uh, you understand that you're obviously under arrest, but you have the right, >> right, >> to remain silent. And then what's your date of birth, Anthony? >> Um how long did you work for Staples? >> I worked for Staples. I started with them in New York um in uh April 2023. >> Anthony claimed his 3-month absence was due to a medical condition brought on by jobreated stress. However, based on his explanation, the workload didn't appear to be any more demanding than what most corporate managers typically face. >> What was it about the job that you don't have to tell me about your physical ailments, but what was it about the job that would make you physically ill? >> So, um just uh very um strenuous uh shifts. There was a lot. The company went through some very major um realignments and shifts, changes to their operation structures, the personnel structures, functional structures of personnel. You know, I was um brought there under the pretense and agreement. Part of why I accepted it was because I was told it was a turnkey operation and then that it was going to be um transitioning to a growth market model. So upon going there and we we started getting bombarded with um very high level um visits from corporate from all over the country um you know from the investment group and with that leading up to it it would be fire drills to just prep make preparations clean store get all things just perfect and I mean working open to close for days weeks at a time for that >> Anthony seemed to think the job would be a breeze until the corporate visits. I mean and that's just during a time mind you like I was telling you before there were many visits with many managers at different level. >> He quickly tried to spin the story suggesting that any senior manager who visited the store could have access that room. What Anthony didn't realize though was that surveillance footage clearly showed him tampering with the safe >> very frequently. >> Okay. The allegations is that there's money missing and just before you answer >> I've been working this case now for quite some time. Right. And I was I explained over the phone. Anthony defended himself by saying he worked hard on organizing the lost and found which he claimed was stored at the bottom of the same safe used for deposits. >> Did Did I go in there and take money out of there? I'm a reasonable person and when there's no victim, there's no crime, Anthony. So, if Staple decides not to be a victim any longer, you're not going to see Detective Palasios anymore. But if I'm going to sit here and I'm going to have to accept you lying to me, I think that's a little bit unfair. I think that's disrespectful and we'll just we'll just leave it at that and you stick to your story. >> Anthony stuck to his story of innocence right up until the end. Even when confronted with multiple videos showing him taking the money, ultimately he was arrested and charged with felony grand theft and scheme to defraud. No scheme stays hidden forever. Surveillance and persistence will catch up with you. Even if you dodge jail, a felony record follows you for life. Comment your opinion about the case in the comment section. A woman concealed items in a tote bag and bypassed the checkout without paying. Loss prevention detained her until police arrived. The suspect, Taquisha, denied stealing, claiming she was only looking for her cousin who supposedly had her phone Apple Pay. She insisted she hadn't left the store and offered to pay. >> Said like, "You guys are in trouble. She has the money up on her Apple Pay. So, I'm looking for her around the store. I see her downstairs right there by the escalator. I'm telling her to come pay for the stuff. I'm walking down. They say, "Come here." I come here. I'm applying with you guys. I said, they say, "Yeah, you can't just walk past the thing. It's a policy where you just can't walk past the thing." I tell them, "I was looking for my cousin. My phone is there. I'm trying to pay for my merchandise." They say, "Well, we have." >> She argued that she didn't know passing the registers counted as theft. Repeating that she wasn't a booster and had no reason to steal since she owned a $3,000 Chanel purse. >> Do what they say. I tell them, "Can I pay for my stuff?" Cuz I'm not trying to leave out the door. I was looking for my cousin. My phone is clearly dead. She has my money a far out. >> So like all of that is going >> this my favorite target. Do you see? I'm still trying to pay for my stuff. I don't. >> Officers informed her she was under arrest for retail theft. She protested, insisting she wasn't stealing and didn't understand the law. >> Queen. >> What's the problem? You're under arrest for retail. >> Why am I didn't take nothing?
