I need some identification, sir. >> Look, look, look. How much you weigh? 100 lb. >> Does that matter? >> Yeah, it doesn't matter. Did you try to take me? >> The suspect keeps challenging the officer, insisting they have no reason to detain him. Then he casually tries to walk off like he's late for a meeting. Guarantee you >> you have a problem. >> All right. Well, I need I just need to see your ID right now. >> No, you don't. Cuz I no reason for you to see my ID. I'll just come to the bike shop here. >> All right. I mean, if you've done nothing wrong, then I'm just going to get your ID and you'll be out of here. >> Nothing wrong. Get out my face. >> Tension rises as the suspect threatens curses and makes a dramatic attempt to hop back on his bicycle because nothing says great escape plan like pedaling away from law enforcement. >> I don't have to sit here and put up this. I can walk away right now. >> No, you can't. Why? You going to stop? You're detained. >> You going to stop me? >> Yes, sir. >> How you going to tase me? You going to shoot me? >> No, sir. I'm I'm allowed to run. >> Even after being restrained, he denies eating the sub and insists he didn't want to hurt the officer. He also claims the deputies don't know the law. >> You know what I mean? I ain't doing nothing wrong. Hell, >> listen. Ho hoes call because you were trespassing. You went in there and ate a sub. >> No, I didn't. >> So, if if I go on camera, I not going to see you eat a sub. >> Yeah, go ahead. This dude don't even know what he's doing. You know what I mean? I didn't want to hurt him. I could have very easily you thanked me for that later, >> man. I was just trying to talk to you and get your idea. >> No, you weren't. Okay. >> Stop. You're a grown man. Act like a 2-y old sidewalk. They said you were eating food in there without paying. >> Get the camera. >> We'll go over there and see it. >> Amen. >> But I'm over here. >> Brandon, what are you doing? >> Oh my. >> Deputies recognize him from previous encounters. They let him know he's headed to jail and add that the cameras clearly show him eating the sub. >> I got >> Yeah, we all know you, buddy. >> I know. It's a good thing. Not today. Today you're going to gym. >> Well, good. I like it's a reunion when I go there. >> Yeah, you get a free meal. >> Yeah. >> A hot car. >> That's right. >> Nice warm place to stay for the night. >> It's going to be cold. >> He ate a sub at Publix and then walked out. >> Where's the sub at? >> You probably ate your stuff. >> Is that what you're saying? The situation has officially escalated way beyond the price of a public sub. >> Not yet. >> What do you mean not yet? >> Not yet, buddy. >> Well, not yet. I ain't running a law. You have me nothing. You bring a couple, buddy. >> You're on camera in there. >> Camera what? >> Camera. Camera. >> Camera. What? You see me >> eating. >> Eating. >> Eating what? >> You got like mustard on you. Right. >> Come on. Stand up. >> There you go. >> I'm resisting. You're going for resisting with violence since you injured my deputy. >> Injured? He injured me? >> Well, let's take that. Let's go to court. I I'll run that to trial then. >> All right. Well, that'd be fun. >> Yep. >> All right. Have a seat there, sir. >> I swear to God, I'mma show you what a real man is. If I want to hurt you, I would hurt your ass. >> Final note. The suspect. Robert is charged with trespassing petty theft battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting with violence. As always, he's presumed innocent until proven guilty. A free sandwich is never worth a trip to jail, especially when the security cameras have better memory than you do. When officers say you're detained, that's your cue to stop arguing, not to hop on a bicycle, and pedal into destiny. The Next Thief takes it to a whole new level. Comment your guess and hit subscribe so you don't miss it. >> Ma'am, you need to stop. >> Get the out of my lungs. GET AWAY FROM ME. >> STOP IT. >> GET AWAY. DON'T HURT. YOU'RE >> HURTING HER. >> OKAY. >> On April 21st, 2023. It all started with what should have been a tiny bump. Literally a ding. One woman nudges the car next to her and boom. You don't touch me, mother. Get the away from me. Get away. You'reing guy. You're a guy. Get away from me. You don't touch me again. You got a supervisor over here. Ma'am, >> for the love of it, guys. >> How about both and a supervisor? >> She keeps screaming, accusing the officers of hurting her mom, despite the fact that the cops are just trying to maintain a polite distance. >> They don't touch me. Get the away to my mom. Get away from her. >> Ma'am, you need to stop. >> Get the out of MY MOM. GET AWAY FROM HER. >> STOP. Get away. DON'T STOP HURTING [screaming] HER. >> OKAY. Everybody, >> do we have an ambulance coming? >> I Yeah, everybody. >> Your mom is better than you. My leg. >> That's right, >> ma'am. Stop that. >> Things get even stranger. She collapses dramatically, claiming the officers are hurting her leg. And then, wait for it blames her mom and somehow she's still yelling for help while resisting at the same time. >> Off my leg, >> ma'am. Stop it. >> Get the off my leg. >> Nobody's on you. >> Get the offer. Help! Help! >> I got her left leg. >> Help! Help! Officer! He's hurting my left leg. >> Can you take me in? Please help me. You're hurting me. >> Yeah, she's trying to get us. >> No, it hurts. If you try to do that, can you help me, officer? Please help me, officer. >> We got you. >> You have no idea. You have no idea what I'm going to do if you don't help me. Help. Help. I love you, Mommy. >> Just let me go, you idiot. >> We're not We can't let you go. [screaming] >> Want to tell us what happened here? >> Figure it out. >> Can you tell us what's going on with you? >> Oh my god. Meanwhile, mom is not helping at all. She's refusing to cooperate, calling officers losers, complaining she's sick, but leaving everyone guessing what's actually wrong. >> 7100, a hit and run seinal. >> The idiot on the phone. Do you hear that? I don't have to listen to you. I know my daughter got hurt already. You think that you are going to help me? >> Your daughter. Okay. Well, everything's going to happen through your camera, but nothing cares. >> No one cares cuz I have to deal with that in real life. >> What happened with your daughter? >> Why don't you figure it out? You have the camera. Just want to hear from you, though. You're wrong. >> I'm not going to talk to you. >> Okay. >> I'm sick. >> All right. What's wrong with you? >> I'm sick. >> The mom really goes full roast mode on the officer interviewing her, dissing his beard, his teeth, his weight, everything short of his taste in socks, while still refusing to answer any basic questions. >> Sick with what? >> Sick with you people. >> Okay. Do you have any medical conditions that we should tell the fire department about? We >> might as well just try to figure it out. I'm tired. >> Okay. >> What is this in front of me? A loser. I mean, really, I have to deal with this [ __ ] in front of me. My daughter is hurting and she's has um her father hurting and I have to deal with this piece of in front of me. Are you kidding me? Can you put your feet in front of you so you can sit upright? >> I won't do it. >> Oh my god. >> How dare you? >> Pretty much you are. Now I have to deal with this [ __ ] too on top of everything else. Stop your heart from hitting my head. >> Jesus Christ. Get Let go on me. You're >> Can you sit up by yourself? >> My eyes. I mean, what do you want me to do? >> Can you sit up by yourself? >> I don't know. You're telling me. >> Idiots. >> Okay. >> How about you just sit up by yourself then? Okay. >> Touch me. >> We're trying not to. What are you going to do anyway? >> Back to the daughter, she starts spitting, hitting her own head and trying to injure herself. At this point, officers are like, "Okay, safety first." And handcuff her. >> Hit me. You hit me. >> I know you, Colin. >> You do this to me. >> Right now, they're just sitting her. >> Why would you do this to me? >> We did. >> Yeah. for >> primarily for her, >> ma'am. Hey. Hey. Come on. >> Stop that. >> Stop that. You can't. >> You can't you can't you can't be hurting yourself. Okay. >> Try fighting with us. Spitting at us. You hit your head on the other. >> Okay. Can you just >> No. >> Can you lean back against your mom's car? >> I don't want you hitting your head again. >> Is she handcuffed? >> Yes. >> No, it's not going to happen. >> She was She was spitting. She was spitting. >> This is just to get her to stop. >> Run. This is just to get her to stop. >> And just like that, what started as a tiny ding is now an epic saga. Officers note she may be intoxicated and keeps drifting in and out of consciousness. Basically, She's trying to hurt herself >> and us. >> So, this started from her just hitting another car. >> Yeah, she dinged she door dinged this guy and then she thinks of Yes. And things went downhill from there. >> But she she keeps >> I don't know if she's playing possum or if she's passing out cuz she's intoxicated or what, but she keeps going in and out like this. These are paramedics. >> I don't care about police. My Savannah is gone. She's hurting me. I'll be talking. >> Can we uh Can we get her up and get her out of the car? >> Sure. >> Okay, Daniel. Come on. >> Ready? 1 2 3. There you go. >> Walk. Can we go over there? >> The daughter eventually gets charged with battery criminal damage to property and resisting s obstructing an officer. Escalating a minor accident with threats and aggression only makes things worse. Staying calm and cooperative can prevent legal trouble and physical confrontations. Guess how this thief tries to get away and drop a comment below. Don't forget to subscribe to catch the next move. >> No, no, no, NO. STOP. [screaming] YOU'RE GOING TO GET PEPPER. On October 26th, 2023, police rolled up after a report that two ladies were trying to treat Walmart like their personal boutique officers politely but firmly tell them to put their hands behind their backs. >> You saw me, right? So, you knew I was in the store, right? >> All right. Go ahead and put your hands behind your back. See? >> Yeah. >> What did I do? >> Put your hands behind your back. What happened? Put your hands behind your back. Palms together like you're praying. Awesome. Come here. Come here. Turn around. Hands behind your back. Behind your back. Put your palms together like you're praying. >> Grab my purse off the >> again. You listen to me. You listen to me, >> not her. >> Yeah. We're going to go in the office and I'll let you know. Okay. >> Walk all the way to the end. Do not walk too fast. I'm right here. I'm kind of hurt. Following behind him. All right. Nope. Stand up. Stand up. Face the wall. You got any weapons on you? Anything? All right. Wait. Cuz you're pregnant. I'm going to swap these cuffs to the front. palms together like the crane out front. All right, have a seat. So, here's my question to you guys. You guys almost hit me earlier, right? You saw, right? But you saw me, right? So, you knew I was in the store, right? Okay. You also realize that there's thousand >> One officer throws a little history lesson in. These aren't newbies. Nope. Walmart has already banned them nationwide. Facial recognition will pick them out faster than a barcode scanner at checkout throughout this entire store. Correct. Okay, so let's play devil's advocate. How smart is it to bag items without purchasing them and then putting them in a cart, concealing them without paying for them? >> You talking about the house shoes >> in general? Any merchandise? >> That's it. >> Right. because we stopped you guys. But I'm I'm asking you a question. Is it smart to do that? >> No. >> You saw me. So I told her you also saw me put >> them in the front cuz I didn't purchase them. But I have money to buy everything in that cart. >> Okay. Well, here's the other problem. We also have you guys from another incident with your photos where you guys were not stopped because you guys pushed out before they were able to make contact with you. So at this point today, you both are going to be trespassed from Walmart nationwide. You're not permitted in any Walmarts at all. whatsoever. If they open one on Mars, you can't go to Mars and go to that Walmart either. We have facial recognition. I work this one and I also work 62. If you show up at either one of my Walmarts, I will immediately >> felony territory people. The cops wisely suggest that maybe a resume and a steady job would be a better investment than repeated shoplifting. >> Arrest you and charge you for both theft and I will also charge you for trespassing. >> Do you both have IDs? I'll have to look. >> What's your first name, ma'am? >> All right. What's your first name? >> Michaela. It >> was almost $1,200 last time, wasn't it? Easily a felony that I can still file warrants on. >> The last amount that you guys pushed out almost $1,200. Just cuz we don't get you the first time doesn't mean we won't get you the second time or the third time or the fourth time. But the time that you guys spend doing all this nonsense. >> One lucky lady gets a brief chance to grab her belongings because even in trouble, everyone deserves a little dignity. >> You guys could be putting application in somewhere for jobs and stuff. >> You can still work. We have plenty of people that work here at Walmart that are on SSI. Uh, looks like the second one is showing an activating one out of CAN for F1 domestic assault and obstruction. Uh, I'll see if there's a hard copy of the warrant. >> Sounds like you might be one of the accounting anyway. No, my phone. I'm going I might be going to the phone. Come on. Conversations. Sorry. I hope I can just go. >> All right. Michaela, I got one in hand. I'll count >> Thank you. Probably going to >> Okay. Is does she have her paperwork? Is she ready? >> Yeah. >> All right, let's get her out of here. Have her sign. Stand up. Hand on top of your head. >> So pre trespass, you can't come to any Walmart in the country, Sam's Club, Merk Oil and Gas, parking lot, anywhere. All right. >> No subways, no stores associated. >> Yeah. Nothing at all. >> All right. You are free to take both bags and leave. You just have to leave the property. >> Is that who the DV is against? >> Okay, open it so I can get your >> Okay, you're free to go. >> Cue the dramatic claims. I'm pregnant. I can't breathe. The officers juggle safety and compliance, trying to cuff and control without turning this into a full-on soap opera. >> Yeah, she can take my phone. >> When you get out of the counter, you're not going to have any way to contact anybody. >> I don't use the phone. >> Okay. No, no, no, NO. STOP. YOU'RE GOING TO GET pepper spray. >> Are you [ __ ] joking? >> No. [crying] [ __ ] Don't do that to me. Please don't take me. >> Hey, go get my radio. >> Please don't take me. Get the I'm pregnant. I'm pregnant. Record her. RECORD HER. SHE HIT ME. RECORD HER CUZ I'M PREGNANT AND I can't breathe. GET YOURING HANDS BEHIND YOUR BACK. GET YOUR HANDS BEHIND YOUR BACK. I WILL once you quit doing that to my head. I can't breathe. >> GET YOUR HANDS BEHIND YOUR BACK. >> Please get YOUR HANDS BEHIND YOUR BACK. YOU'RE GONNA FIGHT ME. GET YOUR HANDS BEHIND. >> I'm trying TO FIGHT YOU. I'M already >> I got you. I got you. >> SHE ALREADY SLAPPED YOU ON THIS. >> I GOT YOU. >> 26. I GOT ONE TO FIGHT ME. >> She ran from the police. >> I can't breathe. You're not pregnant. >> I got you. I got you. >> Here. I can't breathe and I'm pregnant. >> All right. Well, get your arm out from underneath. >> Let me get to the Let me turn to my side. >> No, get your arm out from underneath you. >> Arm out. >> Let me turn to my side. >> Get your arm out and we'll turn you to your side. Why can't you listen? >> You have issues. >> I can't breathe. >> Yes, I can. Cuz she asked me for assistance. >> I can't. >> I got people surrounding me. Please. >> I can't breathe. I can't breathe. >> An officer asked for >> I CAN'T BREATHE AND I'M PREGNANT. >> Help me. Help me. >> Help me. >> Give me your arm. >> Walmart. >> You get the arm. Like listen. Is it that hard? >> No. I just >> I can't breathe ON MY STOMACH. GET OFF OF ME. SHUT THE UP. >> GET OFF OF ME. >> Things get wilder. Resistance continues. Pregnancy excuses repeat like a broken record. And one suspect actually slips her cuffs so the cops have to play tugofwar again. >> Take this. 262 >> one in custody. You can slow the other medics down. The other unit down. >> Shut the up. >> All right, put your knees. >> SHUT THE UP AND GET UP. MY DAUGHTER, >> look at me right now before you get in charge. >> Please just give me back to my kids. >> I promise I won't come here no more. Come here no more. He's going to my car. >> Can I still beat your ass home? I lost everything out here. >> I got your take. Take your time. Okay. You're good. You're good. >> You're good. Come back. >> Are you okay? >> She's pregnant. >> Are you okay? She's Come here. She slipped her top or didn't get warm on. >> All right. >> Again. >> I want to go to my turn around. >> Are you all right? >> Turn that way. >> Turn that. >> Yeah. I got to the ground. She just immediately >> That's not happening. >> Stop. Stop. Relax. Relax. You already know how to [ __ ] All right. You already know how they GOING TO BE CAUSING TROUBLE NOWHERE. YOU KNOW THAT. You know that. Look at how they doing me. What the >> Get off of me. Just get over me. Stop, man. Get over me. >> Ma'am, you're going to jail. Stop. Stop. You're going to jail. >> GET OFF ME, BABY. WHEN IT COMES OUT, I WOULD HAVE BEEN able to sh >> just take her to the hospital. >> Okay. Getting her into that is going to be a fight. >> So, just take her to all. I'll let them know. >> I'll let them know. >> We'll follow out. All right. >> What happened? >> I had her cuffed and she told me she was pregnant. So, I cuffed her in the front. >> Did you cuff right here? >> No, in there. >> Oh, she's in the office. >> Oh, she's getting escapable today. >> Okay. >> But I had her cuffed in the front. I had her other friend here. All they wanted to do was trespassing. So, run her. She got warned. She wants to know. She's got to go. I told her friend, I'm standing there at the desk. I said, "You can go grab her [ __ ] and go." She slips her cuff and gone. [ __ ] come out here and I tap her to the ground. I want 30 minutes. >> Okay. >> She is pregnant, I guess. Apparently. I don't know. Did >> she tell you she was pregnant before she ran? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> I mean, when she was in the office. >> Yeah. >> One lady has a prior violent record, bonds out, pleads guilty, and ends up with three years probation plus $900 in court fees. Poor choices have serious consequences. Attempting theft, especially repeatedly, can quickly escalate to felony charges, probation, financial penalties, and a permanent trespass from stores. On September 7th, 2023, officers received a call about an active theft at a Target shopping center. The caller reported that a woman was stealing various items throughout the store. As the woman attempted to bypass all point of sale checkpoints, she was apprehended by Target security. >> Hey, stranger. >> When the officer arrived, asset protection explained that this was not her first incident. She would come two to three times in one day just to steal. However, what the officer didn't know is that she had two more kids she left in a hot car, all while she was stealing inside the Target >> that I have on her, but just dealing with today. >> Okay. >> Um, Miss Latasha, she's more than capable of speeding. But she did let me know that um she is living out of a hotel right now. >> Officers discover she left two more children in a hot car while stealing inside. She admits she is living in a hotel and struggling financially. >> Mhm. She's having a hard time managing and paying for her relatives or anybody here. She had her mom was just calling from her from New York, she said. >> Um, do you want to chat with her? You're more than welcome to. >> I understand. >> I understand. >> All right. So, real quick, um, >> yeah. >> Are you going to uh >> I would like to uh prosecute and trespass for this majority of the time. Yes, she was here last night and she did steal alcohol last night as well. She sold alcohol today. But those are the most like frivolous things, right? Things like that. I'm going to start compiling on. Um I'm actually going to Oh, >> you mind if I take a picture? >> Oh, sure. Okay. So, this is what um I'm going to go ahead and do. Technically, I placed you into investigative detention, but since you have your daughter with you, I'm not going to put you in handcuffs right now. Okay. >> All right. So, I'm deputy string with the Sim County Sheriff's Office. Okay. Um, at this point you are in investigative detention, but for this, like I say, >> for the sake of your daughter right now, I'm not going to do that. Okay. But >> officers place her under investigative detention, but avoid handcuffing her immediately due to her children being present. >> Here's the thing. If you try to run out this door, >> I'm not. >> Yeah. And then we we we in a whole totally different situation. Okay. All right. So, I'm going go ahead and read you Miranda right now. Is >> that a baby in a car? No, don't tell. Oh, so they have two young kids in the car and a baby in the car. Okay, might as well call DCL. >> You have your ID on you? >> Hold on. Give me one second. Hey, what's going on? Do you have kids in your car? >> Hm. >> Do you have children in your car? >> Do you have children in your car? >> Yes. >> Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Hold on. Let me give me a second. I'm I'mma read her Miranda. I'll call you back. Okay. Bye. All right. Um, you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you in court. You have the right to have an attorney present now or at any time during questioning. If you talk to me, you have the right to stop answering questions or speak to an attorney at any time. Do you understand each of these rights? >> Yes. >> Will you talk to me? >> Yes. >> Okay. All right. So, the incident today, what was going on with it? >> I just move this closer. >> Okay. I just like >> okay. >> The woman admits she left her 10year-old, 4year-old, and one-year-old in the car. She also acknowledges she has shoplifted from this Target numerous times before. >> Like, I'm living in a hotel. I'm just having a hard time right now. >> I get it. And we all have hard times. >> I know. >> So, but we have a bigger issue right now. How many children are in your car right now? >> Two. >> Two kids. What are their ages? >> My son [snorts] is 10. >> 10. And >> my daughter is >> one. >> One. So you got a 10-year-old and a one-year-old in the car. >> That's it. >> Mhm. >> Okay. All right. And then how old is >> She's four. >> She's four. >> Hi. >> Four. Okay. Um I thought they were baby babies. Like an infant in a guard. Okay. That's that's that kind of kind of got me. I'm like, what are we doing? >> All right. So have you been here before? Yes. >> Okay. And what what has taken place before? why you came to this particular Target? >> It was no particular Target, just that my son go to school in the area. >> So, how many times have you been at this Target right here and stolen items? >> I don't remember. I'm not sure. >> So, it's just been a a whole bunch of times. Okay. And have your children been present with you while you've done it? Like physically in the store? >> Maybe. >> Maybe. Okay. because um that's also a completely different charge. >> Police explain she faces multiple charges, including committing crimes in front of juveniles, and warn she could be arrested if she returns to Target. >> Because you are committing a crime in the presence of of juveniles. >> So, I'm not taking the arrest. Somebody else is going to take it. I'm here to pretty much kind of feel it until that person comes. Now, I will whatever it is that you what what you're telling me right now, I will relay it to the arresting deputy and it'll be up to them what they want to do. Okay? But I'm just I'm just letting you know your your op what you you're pretty much dealing with right now. You're committing a crime in the presence of your children. We dealing with two different crimes right now. Okay. So, again, I'm going to leave that up to them. Whatever it is that he wants to do with it, then that's him. Okay. >> So, will they take them? >> Do you have anybody that can come and get them? I can try and find somebody, please. I mean, you can give us a second again. Here's the thing. You You kind of put yourself in a bad situation. I get we and honestly, we all go through trying times to be honest with you. So am I. Okay. But >> I understand. >> You get what I'm saying? I mean, I don't want to kind of beat a dead horse. >> I know. >> Okay. All right. So, All right. So, you are trespassed from this particular target. Okay. If you do come back to this target, you will be subject to arrest. Okay. I do have to take a photo of you. >> Did you get the vehicle open? >> I can't just open it. >> They got the vehicle open. >> They broke the window. >> I can't say if they broke it or not, but if your 10-year-old is in the car, pretty sure he opened up the door for him. >> Yes. >> 4 513. That's 104. Hey. Hey. So, I'mma leave this car open so you so I'm going to go ahead leave this car. >> Deputies open the car to give the kids fresh air. A relative arrives to pick them up as the woman is taken into custody. >> Open so you guys could get some fresh air. Okay. >> All right. >> Uh um what's your name? >> Um >> and that's your sister Brenda. >> Yeah. Going to be in the fifth grade to make sure you guys get in some pair condition. Let me see. Make sure you guys get some get some hair over there. Okay. Like I said other I'm going to wait for the other deputy to see what he wants to do and then we'll go from there. Okay. >> Chocolate eyes. >> Uh do you have the information if he's picking up the kids or >> Yeah, I got it. I'll put it. Okay. Thank you. >> You're welcome. >> Did you get her? It's right there in the Target. >> Yes. They're right there. They're about to suck. Okay. >> And they're on their way. >> Mhm. >> All right. All right. So, if you want to put your phone in your purse. >> Okay. Is it possible I can just leave it with them? >> The purse? >> Yeah. >> That's up to you. >> Yeah. I I trust this person. So, they are taking the stuff. I thought you just told her. >> No, I told her that they were taking the stuff because I don't know like how this works. I've never been to jail, so I have to take I I don't know like how long I'm going to be there. So, I They need food to eat. >> Okay, go ahead and stand up. Turn your hand back. Hey, how you doing? I >> just come to pick up the kids. >> You are? >> Yeah. Um, I'm your dad. >> What's your name? Sorry. >> Your name? >> Yeah. Oh, so you tell me what happened. >> Um, yeah, if you want to close the door. >> Yeah. So, their mom got caught a stealing out of that and so she's going to jail. >> No, not stealing. >> Stealing. >> Yeah. >> What What now? When you say stealing, that's a what? I don't know exactly what she took or what she you know and of course this isn't the first time. So you know >> loss prevention confirms she has been caught stealing at least seven prior times though she's being charged only for this incident. >> So let me call you right back. Let me call you right back. >> Let me ask you a question. Um things. >> Is there like bail or anything like that? >> Yeah, it's probably depending on what it is. As of right now, it's probably $500. It could be more. Um I don't know. She have a Florida license. >> You possible to pay that now? >> No, you won't be able to pay. It'll take some time. Um they go our loss prevention officer. >> Are you related to the subject? >> Yes, that's the >> This is all the stuff that she actually paid for. She didn't want to refund it. She said that she would like for it to go with you guys so they take food. Some of it is frozen. Now, let me ask a question. What like this is what she stole? >> No. >> What did she steal? >> She actually she actually asked us if we cannot disclose information to whoever was coming to pick up. Um it will obviously be public record and you'll be able to see it anyway. Um but this I'll just say this isn't the first time. >> No, she's never did this before. >> I'm saying this isn't the first time at the store. I'm telling you it's not >> that she did this. >> She's done this many times. I have documented incidents on I think probably seven or so. But I'm only charging her for the one today. I will say that >> she has children in the car. >> Absolutely. I told them that we we knew that she had children in the car before we even stopped her. >> So she was >> she just she just didn't papers and stuff, but I >> All right. What's in that pocket right there? >> It's a pen. >> The pen? >> Yeah. Let's walk you this way real fast. Okay. All right. Go in there and grab it. >> Yeah. >> I'm just going to tell you right now, um, anything else you have on you if it's introduced into the jail, it's going to be >> officers warn her about introducing contraband into jail. Final charges include grand theft and committing a crime in the presence of minors. >> Charge. You understand? >> Anything but >> anything else on you? any other drugs, knives, guns, anything like that. Any kind of >> substance? >> No, I don't have any. >> Okay, we're just explaining if you introduce it to a jail after this point, it is introduction contra. Okay, >> I don't have anything. >> Okay. Despite the seriousness, she receives only 3 months of probation. Leaving children in danger while committing crimes only adds to the harm and consequences. Desperation is never an excuse. Poor choices today can destroy trust and future opportunities. If not the craziest incident you can see, the next case even more. [music] >> [music] >> on August 9th, 2024 in Flaggler County, Florida, police officers responded to a call from Target after loss prevention staff detained a woman who had captured on CCTV switching price tags on multiple items prior to checkout. >> Okay, so what is going on tonight? Honestly goes a long way. >> Going through a divorce. Don't have any money. Didn't know what to do. >> Okay, so they have like I said they have camera footage and everything. >> I've been living in a house with no water. >> Okay. >> Nothing. >> All right. Do you still have this on you? >> No, I don't have that on me. >> No. >> No. >> Okay. So, they had you on on on camera swapping tags, >> price tags, and stuff like that. Okay. So, the total amount that you should have paid was over $200. >> Roughly. >> $200? >> Yeah. What? >> This what they're scamming right now is at $189 from what you >> What? >> Well, just alone that Lego set it was almost $100. >> Oh my god. >> The suspect identified as Carla was involved in a scheme known as price tag switching. a tactic where a person removes the price tag from a cheaper item [music] and places it on a more expensive one to pay less at checkout. >> The parents was like 2530 bucks and you put a new tag on it. >> How were you putting the tags on them? >> I didn't put those tags on that. They were hanging in the clearance aisle. >> Okay. >> I bought them. Yeah. >> You didn't take any of the tags off the pants? >> No. >> What tags did you put the video? I'm in the clearance aisle the whole time. >> What tags did you swap them? Just the um sticky ones. >> Okay. How many items did you swap? >> Um a folder, the Lego set. I told him that. The folder, the Lego set, and nothing. And then a bag didn't have a tag. >> Okay, >> that's it. I'm not sure what the price me I can't go to jail. You guys don't understand. Carla was desperate to avoid going to jail, knowing she was already on probation for a previous theft related offense. To make things worse, her young son had been with her during the entire incident. >> Understand what's going on. They they might not have pursued charges, but she's done this multiple times in this store. >> In this store? >> Yes. >> I don't understand. I gave her money to go get sleep aids and tea. I'm like, go to Dollar General. >> She's been doing this apparently. >> She didn't know. No. Okay. >> Okay. >> It has that's not the it has nothing to do with your soda, buddy. Okay. But and Grandpa will explain everything to you. Okay. I already kind of gave him a speech and mom made a mistake that she knew was wrong. But um yeah, they they they just haven't caught her until today. >> The officer informed Carla's father that he wouldn't be able to bail her out that night since she was already on probation for theft. Unlike his daughter, he appeared to be a sincere and decent man. that they're from. I left Dollar General two weeks ago with a 12-pack of water and forgot all about it. So, I went all the way back and I forgot to pay for this. The lady's looking at me like >> I did it too for plastic utensils. >> This might be uh might be it for >> I don't know. I don't know. Seems like she's perfuming the pig with with him. But I already told him I said she made a mistake, >> you know, but she did something wrong. So >> trying to help her. I mean, she's going through a rough time with, you know, five kids moving into house a little bit off, but like >> she's not helping herself right now. >> Yeah. She refused to go to the store. Hm. >> I refuse to go to the store with her >> because I'm like, you bring me out. I'm like, >> it's almost every time. >> I don't know. I don't trust her. >> That's bad. >> What Carla's father described seemed to resemble kleptomania, a compulsion to steal, even when there's no real need or gain. It was as if she was addicted to shoplifting. >> Dad just said he gave you money. >> He did. He gave me $28. And then I just came here to see if they had my mom's sleep aids here. >> Why did you steal? >> Because I've been locked in my house for 9 years with a husband who controlled me. >> What does that have to do with you stealing stuff? >> To have money or anything. >> What does that have to do with you stealing stuff and setting a terrible example for your son? >> Ma'am, you don't have to tell me how to be a mother. I understand. I'm >> not telling you how to be a mother. I said you're setting a bad example. >> I understand >> multiple times. Yes, you're right. You're 100% right. Thank you for admitting >> that. Must have been tough for her to hear, but it was something she needed [music] to face. The officer was absolutely right. Stealing was bad enough on its own, but doing it in front of her son sent an awful message. >> Tell your son that you forgot to pay for it. >> I didn't tell him that. >> Okay. Cuz I already told him. I said, "You made a mistake and you made a bad decision." >> Hold that thought. I told him that you made a mistake [music] and you made a bad decision. and that you knew what you did was wrong. Your your parents are helping you out. You didn't have a need to steal anything. >> My parents doing the best. My mom has cancer. My dad barely has anything. >> So you needed a popsocket. >> I didn't take a popsocket. >> Why did you have the wrapping? Why did you open up the wrapping if you weren't stealing? I didn't. I ripped it in half. I threw the other half. >> Why? >> Why not? Who cares? I don't get it. I >> Why would you destroy the packaging? >> Why would you destroy the packaging? [music] >> I don't know. >> It's a terrible lie. >> So, you're setting an example for your son that he can walk around the store and just rip and open the packaging. >> [music] >> We get lied to on a regular basis and that's a terrible lie. >> She was formally informed that she was under arrest, then placed in handcuffs as officers began searching through her belongings, documenting every item tied to the theft. >> What's your name? >> THC. That's a felony. >> No, I have my card. >> Where is it? It's not on me, but you can look up my name on it. >> When you have something like that, you're required to have it with you. [music] And you know that. >> I do know that actually cuz my ID always works in the dispensary. >> What? >> I don't have to bring my med card. I can bring my ID >> because they can look it up. But once you get it, you are legally required to have that at all times. >> Yeah, I know. The popsockets in there. >> So why did you lie about it? >> Cuz I felt stupid. [clears throat] cuz they were like over. >> What about this? >> That looks like it's package. That looks like it's terrible. >> You're not even showing me what you give me. >> I'm not required to. It >> doesn't belong to you either. >> Is it mine? >> No, it's not yours. >> That's what we're trying to figure out. And they just said, "No, it's not yours." So, you can't even keep track of what you stole. >> Yeah. Just pull them out of everything. In what way did you think you had a right for me to ask them if they if that was their property or not? >> It was clear the officer had reached her limit with Carla. She was visibly disturbed by Carla's dismissive attitude and even more upset that her young son had been exposed to the entire ordeal. >> You know you can lose your medical marijuana license for not abiding by their laws, right? >> I know that. >> You should know that. It's your responsibility to know that. >> Just like having your driver's license mean >> I'm not being mean. I'm being blunt and honest. >> Just because you don't like what I'm saying doesn't mean it's mean. I'm being mad. It's a It's a statement of fact. It's your responsibility. >> I get it. >> I'm not being mean. I said it's your responsibility to know that >> consequences, right? >> Yep. [music] >> Exactly. >> All deputy has to do >> is charge you with this for not following the rules and your medical card. Is it her? Okay. >> Yeah. I don't I don't know for sure about that one. >> Well, we can't tell. We can't trust when you say it's yours cuz those underwear are yours which they're showed me you opening up before. I have a bunch of underwear. >> So, they're not yours. >> I kept looking at them to see if they were too bad or too small. >> You can understand why I don't believe anything that comes out of your mouth. >> Further investigation revealed that she was already on probation for a petty theft incident dating back to September 2023. Given her repeat offense, Carla was once again charged with petty theft. Stealing may seem small at the moment, but it destroys trust and can ruin your future. Honesty and integrity are worth far more than anything money can buy. All right, let's move to this next case where things might get even messier. >> Did these end up in your purse? >> I was literally walking with my wallet like this. So like I had it like this. >> No, no, don't grab it. >> I'm No, I'm just saying like if I had it like this. >> On March 1st, 2025, officers responded to a retail theft at Walmart and spotted a man and woman who looked like they were in mid Walmart Olympics. The cops stopped them and politely escorted them back inside for a little receipt review. >> Okay, let's walk back inside. Let's walk back inside. Okay, walk right back inside cuz like 2:15 we'll be out with you. >> We just got to verify something. Okay, we're going to walk over here to the corner. The suspects swore they paid in cash because apparently cash makes everything legit and let the officers check their bags and purses while carefully dodging certain questions like they were on a game show. >> Hard to find or something? >> No, >> we pay cash. >> You guys pay cash? Okay. Just just stay right stay right here. Okay. >> Okay. Do you have any weapons on you? >> No. >> Okay. >> Can I just make sure you don't have any weapons on you? >> Here's a receipt. I'll take this. We're still here. Turn around. What do you got in here? Do you mind if I look? Don't reach. Don't worry about your charger. Don't reach. >> All right. You got your wallet on you or anything? >> Can I have your ID? >> Can you roll it out for me? >> Where you guys from around here? >> I'm from Alak. >> Let's go to the LP office. Okay. I'll I'll I'll take the cart. Okay. >> Okay. So, you had your own handheld basket? >> Yeah. And then once it got like full cuz he was supposed to throw in it, then he just took the basket and threw it in the cart. >> Okay. So, who put the the purse in in the carts? >> Would have been him and then the basket. But like, >> was it in your basket first though, >> Deon? Is there any like country or any thing from the store in your purse here? No. >> If I just checked. The woman wasn't thrilled about a full purse search, but admitted some things were from Walmart, just [music] already paid for, or from somewhere else. Basically, the classic, "These aren't the droids you're looking for defense." >> Don't reach. Don't reach. Do you mind if I check? >> I say, "Yeah, don't mind." I was going to say, >> "Do you want Can you just show me that there's nothing from >> I was going to say there's literally nothing in here?" >> Why? Why can't I check the rest of this purse? >> Cuz I mean, I just don't see the really need necessary. Well, I want to make I want if you're saying you didn't steal anything. The only way for me to prove that >> this is this is there. >> This is this is there. >> Yeah, but that's about that's it. >> Okay. I need to verify there's nothing else in there that belongs to the store. So, I need to search this first. That's what I'm saying. >> No, I'm telling you like I'm I'll give you everything that's in there. >> Okay. Can you show me? >> Yeah. I'm going to say here's this. >> I'm giving >> This is from there, too. >> Yeah. But that's it. This is mine. >> Why was this in your purse? I had it in my hand with my wallet. So, >> did you pay for this? Okay. >> So, other than that, like I'm telling you, everything else that's in here is mine. >> Can you start pulling stuff out and putting it on here then? If you're saying there's nothing else in there, this is mine. >> That's yours. This is not from Walmart. It's from all Walmart, but it's the one on walk. >> You paid for it >> in walk. Yeah. >> Okay. This this everything else is like basic cigarettes. More vapes. More vapes. Keys. I don't know. >> She kept pulling out random purse items like a magician doing a hat trick, insisting each was from a previous [music] shopping trip. The officers, however, were less impressed and more interested in why the timeline didn't add up. >> As I said, ain't nothing else in here, though. I promise you. Right. >> Can you open this up? >> Everything else that I bought is in there. >> But you bought What's that right there? What's that? >> That's from. >> Can you pull that out? >> Yeah. I was going to say that's from Waggan. >> I was at the Waggan Walmart yesterday with with a buddy. >> Same guy. And you purchased this. Do you have a receipt from this? >> Uh, he should have the receipt. >> Stop reaching your purse. Take this out. I I'm not going to look into it, but stop reaching for take this off and just put it on the ground. >> Okay. I was going to say I promise you they sell the same thing at Walmart. I got it at the Walmart walk and I got the same card in the Walmart walk. >> Okay. How much did you pay for this? >> Yeah, it was like $59. >> $59? >> Yeah. Okay. >> All right. So, walk me through what happened today. Who put what in the cart? >> Everything. So, everything that got put in a cart was I had a basket that had my stuff in it and that when the basket started getting overfilled, he put the basket in the cart. >> Like that. >> The woman said she and her companion split payment at selfch checkckout, denying any skip scanning and claiming she just liked storing items in her purse while shopping because who needs a cart when you've got a Gucci tote. >> Handheld basket. >> Yeah, like the handheld basket. He dumped it in the car. >> All right. And then did you Who paid for what? Who paid for what? >> We paid for it to set like together. So like I scanned all >> Okay. >> And then mine was $62 or something like that. And then he scanned all the rest of his stuff and it was $88. >> All right, Deon, be honest with me cuz they have cameras on each of those selfch checkout registers. When we watch the video footage, am I going to see you skip scanning any product? Anything? >> I like you said, I I everything I scan, I put on there. And if I didn't want it, I told him to take it off and I handed it to >> which guy? the the one that was standing the worker. >> Yeah, the worker. He took every one of them. >> How did these end up in your purse? >> I was literally walking with my wallet like this. So, I I had it like this. >> No, no, don't grab them. >> I'm No, I'm just saying like if I had it like this, I was walking like that. >> And you put these in your purse and >> Yeah, I put all of this like that. >> Why did >> I Where did you get this stuff? >> The makeup aisle. >> Okay. >> I wasn't even like I couldn't even feel it when I'm like sitting like this. >> Okay. >> We can't feel a lot of that. But I was going to say that's like5 $6. Did you put it this stuff in your purse with that stuff right after you picked it up off the aisle or when you were walking out >> when I an aisle? >> In the aisle. Okay. >> I'm pretty sure. >> Can you stay here with Officer Wright just for a second? >> What's that? >> Did you go through the towel right now? >> I guarantee you the package for that cord he was talking about in there. >> And it was a cord he was concealing in your guys' cart. >> Uhhuh. I guarantee it because >> Officers suspected a product box had been hidden. Walmart staff suspected skip scanning and confirmed they were missing items. >> Threw something up to the pallet towel I ordered like oh I don't want this anymore and it looked like a box. >> So you saw him cons? >> No, but I didn't think it was a I thought he just threw the box back and was like I don't want this anymore. >> So where did you where did you get this from? >> Wkegan. >> Waggan. How about this? >> Walk. >> Okay. And those two things that you gave to me earlier, you said you took it. What else did you take? Cuz Walmart's saying that you skip scan. >> They're pulling it up right now. They're saying you skip scan. >> What did I skip scan? >> That's what we're getting all that information now. I mean, at minimum, you took those two things. Not a big deal, but we got to go through all that stuff. So, hang out here with Officer Wre I'll be right back. >> Okay. >> Charles, right? Do you go by Charlie? >> Yeah, >> Charlie's fine. >> Charlie. Okay. >> I know you've been asked a lot of questions, but here's your opportunity to just be straight with us. Just let me know what happened today, who took what, and what exactly happened. >> The man then dropped the bomb. He'd removed phone chargers from their boxes in the store and stuffed them in his pocket, [music] tossing the empty boxes away because in his mind, the woman would totally cover for him. >> Just the phone chargers, but I thought they were going to be already paid for. So that was my violence mistake. As far as everything else in the car, I was just a guy. I was just standing there. >> The phone chargers. >> Yeah. The packaged phone chargers or the unpackaged one? >> The package or the ones that were in there? >> The loose ones. >> Yeah, >> I think that's >> okay. So, how how do they come un loose? If they >> I open them cuz I was going to see if they fit the phone. >> When did you open them >> in the store? But I thought she was going to take care of paying them. >> Okay. That doesn't really make sense to me if you're going to pay for Where's the Where's the package? If you un >> I just threw it cuz I'm lazy and didn't want to. I just put it on the shelf. But I thought she had another one so we could scan too. How do you think the store was going to figure out how much these were if you didn't have the package? >> Cuz I was going to I thought that I had another box in here. >> Okay. So, you're telling me you took off the package? Where did you hold these? >> Where were these at? >> They were in my pocket cuz I was checking them on my phone. >> Okay. Do you see how this looks looks to us? >> Yeah, I know. I'm take the package out. I will pay for anything. >> Why did you put this Why did you put this in your in your pocket here? >> Cuz I thought it was already paid for. >> At what point did you put it in your pocket? >> When I was walking in the store. Cuz I thought >> Out or in? No, I was in the store. >> You were walking in the store and you concealed these in your pocket? >> Yes. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> At any point did you take these out of your pocket at the register? >> No, I thought the box was in here still cuz I thought I put one box in here to scan two of them. >> Okay. But you threw but earlier you >> I did throw on shelf is like I just want to be lazy but lazy. >> He explained their divide and conquer strategy. split up, unbox things, hide some in the cart, some in his sweatshirt, and meet at selfch checkckout for the grand finale. >> There's other things at the bottom. I didn't know that that was not scanned. They said you could look at the scanner. I was just standing there, but I'll pay for whatever is not paid for. I didn't know the >> So, we're a little bit past that point. Um, >> and you guys are getting a total. >> Um, so just to make sure I understand it right, you and Devin came to the store together. Who drove? >> Deon. >> Deon. Okay. Is her car out there? >> Yeah. Is there anybody else out in the car? >> What type of car is it? >> What color? >> Gray. >> The license plate off hand. >> No. >> Okay. So, you guys come to the store together. What are you trying to get?
