Get on the ground. >> We obviously take this whole cart then cuz I'm taking things that I >> Why come in here to steal? >> Cuz I don't have the money for it. I don't know. I don't have the money for it. >> Do you have a job? >> At some point in your life, you've probably gotten away with something you shouldn't have. Maybe you tricked a [music] teacher or convinced your sibling you didn't eat the last Twinkie, even though you totally did. But for these Walmart shoplifterss, things didn't go quite as smoothly. They tried to outsmart the cops and failed miserably. >> Okay. Um, let me make sure that they got their stuff back or whatever. >> Yeah. I mean, >> and they they I believe they just want both you. >> On May 29th, 2025, police confronted a man named Tommy outside Aldi's after reports of shoplifting. He claims he didn't go inside and blames a woman named Kim or Leah who was wearing a red sweater. Hello. >> You was just at Aldi's. >> I was. >> Okay. >> I wasn't in Aldi's. I was just standing outside. >> Okay. There's a couple females with you that was at Aldi's. There was a female with me that went I don't think she went into Aldi's but uh I wasn't I'm on the phone. I I wasn't paying attention, man. >> Okay. We're in a red sweater. >> Um yeah, she's in a red sweater. Yeah. >> Yeah. Okay. Well, the Aldi's called us about uh stealing in Aldi. >> I have no idea about that, bro. >> Okay. Do you have anything from Aldi's in your backpack? >> You have any groceries in there from Aldi's? >> I do not. You >> do not? Okay. Um do you have an ID on you? >> I don't, but I'll give you my name and my social security number. >> Okay. Um cuz they're going to want you barred from there. Where'd the female go? >> Anything at all? I don't >> Well, you know what I mean? They're private business. >> Not standing outside, you know. I mean, on the phone, bro. >> Well, you know, you was with her. You're guilty by association, I guess. Right. >> Oh, man. That sucks, man. I'm sorry. I didn't know she was doing that. >> Where Where'd she go? >> I I don't know. She said, "Follow me." And then she disappeared. I don't I came around the corner. Like I said, I'm on the phone and I wasn't paying attention. >> Yeah. >> So, >> what's your name, man? >> Uh Tommy. >> What's the girl's name? Uh, I think her name is uh either Leah or Kim. >> She goes by a couple different names. >> Big difference. >> I know, but she goes by a couple different names. >> What do you call her? >> I call her Kim. >> You call her Kim? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Officers locate the woman matching the description. She admits she took items such as honey buns, meat, and Oreos from Aldi, but insists she returned them. Man, >> how's it going? Good. >> Good. Huh? >> Even better. >> Yeah. Uh, stuff from Aldi's. >> I already I ran out trying to catch the bus. I already handed it back to them. >> Already? What? >> Took it back in there to them. You can get it back to them. >> Okay. Cuz they didn't tell me you gave it back to them. >> I did. I went straight back in there and gave it back to them. >> Okay. >> Yeah. I'm on my phone. >> I'm not saying you're not on the phone, but >> Yeah. >> Okay. You have any groceries in your bag there? >> No. this one like another thing again. >> What did you have? >> Um it was like some honey buns, uh some meat things, um Oreos, um spoon. >> Yeah. >> Um >> maybe that's it. >> Okay. Um let me make sure that they got their stuff back or whatever. >> Yeah. I mean, >> and they they I believe they just want both of you barred. Okay. >> Okay. Yeah. The bus ran. I didn't know they wasn't going to let us on there because he had what he had. You know what I mean? You know, >> I have an Irish spear on me. A knife >> and they wouldn't and I had a spear. >> Yeah. >> Oh, okay. I mean, put >> Officers confirm Tommy has an active warrant for a probation violation. He claims he's heading to rehab later that day and denies recent trouble. Apart from minor probation issues >> to my knowledge. >> All right, man. Drop your stuff. You have a warrant for your arrest. >> She got one out of out of pickup, too. >> Okay. Jackson. >> There you have one. >> I didn't [clears throat] know you even had one. When did that come out? It >> was right there. >> No, I mean like Wonder W came out. I usually I'm usually up on that list. >> Yeah. Always on that list. Maybe come out today or something. >> Maybe anything illegal on you. Any kind of weapons or drugs, parapil, crazy like that. >> Are you wait here for a second? I'm going to go talk to him. You've been in trouble recently. At least here locally. >> Just publication violations for not recording. >> Okay. Think you had it for a minute? Come out in February. >> Since February, >> I'm slacking. >> Yeah. >> What's it for? Uh, it's a probation. You're on probation >> then. Then you're right. Probation violation warrant. >> I'll be right back. Old house. [snorts] Let's have a seat for me. Anything illegal in the bags up there? >> What's your plan from uh from this point on? >> I'm heading that way and I'm going to First capital uh recovery. Okay, I'm going re >> Aldi confirms the stolen items were returned, but both individuals are trespassed, banned from the store. Police begin sorting through their belongings to log evidence and separate confiscated items. >> Get on the bus, man. >> Yeah, I mean, I don't really don't blame them. Do they have a big sign says no weapons? >> Yeah, but I'm not I don't have I have anywhere to put it. You know what I mean? Like, I got >> Well, I get ru rules and rules. I mean, they don't have to give you a ride, I guess. Are you guys still missing anything or did she give the stuff back or what? Yeah. >> Guess what? You guess she gave it back or >> Yes, she gave it back. >> Okay. All right. She's arrested anyways. So, she had a warrant. Um, you guys want both of them trespass or one of them or >> both of them? >> Both trespass. Okay. Yeah, we'll do. So, it was uh Kimberly um aka also Meadows and then the male was Tommy. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> So, we we've got them both. They'll let me get um your information for the report. >> Okay. >> All right. She gave everything back, barred from the old Aldi's. Um, what she want to do with his belongings? She want >> We're going to take it with us. >> She won't want to leave with him. >> I would rather go with us anyway. >> You know what I mean? I got way I'm not responsible for anything >> pretty. It could it could come back on us as a liability issue. And yeah, >> so he's barred. >> Yeah, he's barred. Yep. They don't want you back at the Aldi. >> All right, man. I've never been in here anyway. >> Well, you ain't got nothing to worry about then. >> Okay. Yep. Thank you. Yeah, he's good to go. the female suspect. Kim complains about her handcuffs being tight. Officers chat casually while checking her possessions, discovering various new clothing items and accessories still with tags attached. >> There you go. >> That should be better. >> Yeah. >> Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. >> Yeah. If you keep moving, when you sit back, they'll just go tighter on you. >> We'll be able to guarantee that when you get your stuff, you're going to have ice cream. Like, can we throw that away like right now? >> Yeah. Ice cream. >> Sorry. >> Coffee. >> No. What kind of ice cream we got? >> It's cold coffee. >> Oh, coffee ice cream. Yeah. >> I don't like that kind. >> Really? >> So, we need to have like cookies and cream or something like that. Get like a snack. >> I'm going to leave you cup. >> Okay. >> You didn't like give me a fake name this time. Although I knew you cuz I'm pretty sure you done that to me once before. >> Mhm. >> That's how I remembered. >> Yeah, >> I don't remember what you gave me the last time. Magnets. The hell are these things? >> These little magnets. >> Do we need these? >> Tommy's now. >> Tommy said he didn't even know you. Well, I mean, you told me your name told me your name was Cam, and I was thinking like >> officers find numerous brand new items labeled from TJ Maxx and Gabes, including clothes, shoes, sunglasses, and snacks. Doritos. >> Some clothing. I don't know if you want to dive into that or not. >> No. >> Some Gabes clothing. >> Gabes. >> You know, got the the tags on it. Got some shoes. See that? >> Tommy Hilfiger. Let's see here. Probably. Yeah, probably either that or like one of these stores here. >> Popping tags. That's some Mountain Dew. Probably get rid of that, too. >> Oh, yeah. It's all all good. Nice. Nice new stuff. >> You want to do a good deed and tell me where a lot of this stuff comes from? I'm sure you didn't buy it all. >> And I can take it back to them. >> Uh-huh. >> I bought it half price off somebody. >> Oh, you did buy it? >> Off off of a person. >> Off another person. >> Yeah. >> Okay. It's just all got tags and stuff on it. You know what I mean? >> Cuz I don't have anything on Brown. keep stealing everything. >> Yeah. Lot lots of sunglasses, too. >> How much it cost for all this stuff? >> 125. >> Huh. Probably been a little bit more than that. >> Half price. >> How much the bag cost? Or I guess bags. They're half price. That wasn't the question. >> I don't know. Half I don't know what it is. What? So it' be $250. >> Hell, this one says $7.99. Doesn't It's not on sale. >> No, she bought it on sale from somebody else. >> Oh, this thing. >> It's a scrunchie. >> Somebody else had it and she bought them. Somebody else stole them and she bought them from them. Police visit TJ Maxx and confirm with store staff that there were no half off sales and that the described woman had indeed been shoplifting >> going on with a female. It's probably about yay tall red long sleeve shirt like a hoodie and then black shorts. She's got a whole bunch of TJ Maxx stuff. >> Francancy. >> Hey Francie, could you come up front real quick? Just going to call manager. >> I mean probably too, but I don't know if you guys >> She'll defin she'll definitely know. [laughter] She watches them like a hawk. >> Yeah. >> So, yeah, she'll probably >> claim everything she has. >> You guys have any like half off sales? >> Not half off. You got clearance items with red tags. You can get those. >> No, she she had like a bunch of I know some $12.99 stuff and >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> I thought you were asking for you. >> Said she bought everything half off. I was like, okay. Did the bag come from there, too? Did you buy the bag, too? It looks pretty new. Also, >> did it all come like a kit? >> Huh? >> Bought it all in hole. >> Like the bag and all? >> Yeah, that's what I'm saying. The bag looks new to me, too. >> Hello. >> Hi. You're um weird question, but we have a female has a warrant. Got her arrested. Anyway, she had a whole bunch of Gabe stuff and TK Max stuff. >> Oh, she did? >> Yeah. >> She's probably about like yay tall red hoodie and black shorts. >> I think I with you. Yeah, I don't know when she was in the store, but she claims that she got everything and everything was half off. And like that's that's flag on the field. That is Yeah, that that is incorrect. So, >> okay. >> But if you want, we can gather the items cuz we haven't found a receipt for the stuff to return them to you or >> So, I need to get like um a receipt showing how much. >> That would be great. Yeah. >> Um yeah, it sounds like the other officer has everything separated, so I'll go grab that. Bring it in. Um, are you guys in the business? >> Officers tell Kim that buying stolen goods is a crime receiving stolen property and that the entire bag of TJ Maxx items will be confiscated and returned to the store. >> Yeah. Well, you know what that's also called? Receiving stolen property. I'm not giving you that stuff. >> Oh [ __ ] >> Right. I'm not giving you that stuff. So, it's all going to go back to them. >> I'm not going to charge you for that, but it's going back to them. It's obviously stolen. That's a huge problem up here is people stealing. So >> yeah, if if they can bring in the merchandise, I can do like a fake receipt. >> Okay. >> Sorry, old bud. >> No, no, you're good. We're just going We're me and uh Kim here group. We're going to get this entire bag back. That the bag and everything the bag and everything's brand new. I mean, she >> There's Yeah, there used to be a tag. >> Well, >> yeah. She didn't she didn't steal it, but she knows that the purpose of buying a half price is the fact that it is stolen. >> Yeah. Also, they said they don't have they're already discount stores, so they don't do half price. Um the only reason that is clearance >> No, it's half price because it was taken. >> I thought it was a 5 discount. >> Well, the same thing, but that's why it's half price. >> I mean, if it's half price, you would pay something. >> You paid 125. >> All right. Well, we'll return it. Uh, they don't really know if they they have to make some calls. >> I don't really care. Just give them the bag back and put it back. >> No, I gave him my contact info, but I doubt it'll go anywhere. So, anything else? >> No, I don't think so. We're going to >> There's like a few minor things. >> No, they I ain't worried about that. There's that that there's a bunch of stuff. >> All right. Don't you dare throw up my damn car. >> Are you [ __ ] me? >> I throw up my car. >> The woman, Kimberly Kim Meadows, is officially arrested and charged with theft and outstanding warrants. Stealing or buying stolen goods still counts as theft and leads to arrest. Honesty is always cheaper than half off crime. If you like this video, please sign up for Law Zone to receive more. Look out for the next Karen who will react even more aggressively. >> Stop here in just [snorts] one second. Fair to appear in court for uh resisting an officer. >> Oh my god. >> So, it might be from that case back in the fall or winter, whatever that was. >> The window. >> On May 26th, 2025, police approach a man riding a Walmart shopping cart across traffic. He claims he hurt his foot and is using the cart to reach his destination near a plaza. >> What are you doing? >> I hurt my foot riding over here to my destination. >> What's that? I'm sorry. >> I hurt my foot riding my destination. >> Okay. Why are you riding across traffic? >> No, I'm staying on the side. >> You can't You got to ride with traffic. >> Oh, go on the other side. >> Yeah. >> What are you trying to get to? >> Right over here by the place. >> Like shopping in there. >> Okay. Yeah. So, where you coming from? >> My gun down road over here. >> No, I know you're going there. Where you coming from? >> The store. >> Whose cart is this? >> I'm using it to get to the area cuz I hurt my foot. >> Okay, I understand you're using it, but whose cart is it? >> Walmart. >> Okay. Do they know that you took their cart? >> The officer explains that taking the cart without permission counts as theft despite the man's reasoning. The man argues he needs it to get to the bus stop. I was using it to get to my area. >> Okay. You know this is theft, right? >> Moving a cart. >> Taking their cart, >> right? >> You're stealing. >> I hurt my foot. >> Yeah, but you're stealing their cart. >> I can't get to no buses over here. >> Okay. >> I understand your dilemma. >> Why? >> Okay. Cuz you hurt your foot. >> However, you stole a cart. >> I'll tell them they can come get their >> Did you go shopping in Walmart? >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, the bag of stuff right there is bought and paid for. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Do you have an ID on you? >> You're going to go to Romeoville. >> We'll hear from county, get a new court date for it, and then we'll get you out of here. >> Okay. All right. Got anything on you or in the back? >> Officers arrest him, handcuffing him respectfully. He expresses frustration about repeatedly getting warrants while being homeless. >> Bombs, drugs, guns, knives, nothing like that. >> Okay. >> All right, Karen. Go ahead. Just put your hands behind your back for me. >> You want me to take your coat off or you want to leave the coat on? >> Just asking cuz it's kind of hot out. >> Okay. >> Today's Monday. >> Today's Monday. >> Today's Monday. All right, I'm just going to tighten them up or double lock them so they don't tighten up on you. >> Appreciate you being cool with us, Barrett. >> How do I keep getting all these warrants? >> I'm sorry. >> Why do I get all these warrants when I'm homeless? >> Well, do you keep missing court dates or >> They probably They probably keep nailing you cuz you keep missing a court date or something. >> We're not paying some fines on time or >> I honestly we don't either. How does it feel? >> The officer explains that missed court dates or unpaid fines likely cause his recurring warrants. They collect his belongings before transport telling you what's going on. But unfortunately, we got my stuff in your bag. >> Yeah, we'll grab it. We'll grab it. >> Put it in there with me. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Bring it with >> Yeah, we are. Yeah, we're going to grab it. >> Yeah, but I don't want to need my stuff. >> We're going to walk with you and then we're going to come back and grab it. So, All right, here I need to know about something. Well, we're going to go back to the station and then uh county let me double and for you. Okay. All right. Hey Karen, I'm just going to be taking your backpack and putting it in the trunk. Okay. So, how many more warrants do I got for myself? >> During the ride, the officer informs him the current warrant is for failure to appear in court related to a previous resisting an officer case. >> Time for I'll be out to the station. Starting mileage, uh, 31.7 31.7. What's that, Karen? >> How many more warrants I got? >> Uh, it looks like you just got the one. >> And what is this all about? >> It says, uh, failure to appear in court. >> What was the date on it? Uh, I'll look it up here in just one second. Fair to appear in court for uh resisting an officer. >> Oh my god. >> So, it might be from that case back in the fall or winter, whatever that was. >> So, when what do I got to do to break this? I ain't got no money. >> Well, that's what when we get by the time we get back to the station, I'll probably have your bond about. >> All right. >> And then I can let you know what's going on. >> The man worries about paying court fees, saying he has no money. The officer explains he may need to stay in county jail until court. Is that all right? What's up? >> I go to court in the morning. >> Uh, I would assume so. Yeah. >> Okay. Is this all I got on my record? >> What's up? >> Is this what I got on my record? >> Yep. >> So, what do they do if I ain't got money to pay the court? >> What's up? >> What What do I do if I ain't got money for it? >> Um, >> ser 20 years. >> No, no, no. Hey, probably uh if you all got money for bond. >> You guys know I ain't got money. >> Probably have to go down to county. >> Why would you guys keep giving me tickets? >> After arrest, he's taken to Walmart for questioning about the cart theft. Security reviews surveillance footage to confirm the incident. >> Where did my jacket go? >> I'm grabbing it now. I just wanted to get the air rolling in here so you're not too hot. So, I'll be right back. All right, Karen. All right. Carrying your coats in the back here with your bag. All right. All right. You You all good? Uh, I turned the air on back here. Is it good enough for you? Okay. All right, Car. He was charged with theft for taking a Walmart shopping cart without permission. Theft damages trust and communities leading to higher prices, lost jobs, and lasting consequences for offenders. Emphasizing that stealing is never worth it. What an unyielding shoplifter. The next one will react much more violently. So, keep an eye out. >> Yes. >> For what? >> It's been a long >> for what? >> On June 20th, 2023 in Florida, officers responded to a call from Target regarding a suspected theft in progress. Loss prevention at Target recognized one of the female subjects from a previous theft. When the officers arrived, they found that female loading merchandise into a vehicle illegally parked in two handicapped spots near the front. >> What's that? >> They pay in there. >> Someone else is paying for the merchandise that you walked out with. >> No, listen. How did I walk out? >> Put your hands. >> We're going to do this. >> Relax this hand. Hey, listen to me. >> Listen to me. >> While we investigate, put your handcuffs. And if we're wrong, Because >> listen, you're pulling your hand. >> But listen, >> no, no, no, no. >> You listen. First, put you in handcuffs. Make it safe for me, then we look into the details. Thank you. >> Welcome. >> Okay. Thank you. >> The woman is placed in handcuffs for safety during the investigation, though. She's told this doesn't mean she's under arrest yet. >> So, she's saying that she's about to pay for not paying. It's just something they already >> I got you. Yeah. >> I'm just hanging into this. >> Yeah. So, if you want to like stand right there where she can't see and just let her walk out just to make sure like, hey. >> The woman claims confusion, saying her friend was paying inside and that she only went to check on the car which was running without a key. >> Drive here, >> huh? >> Did you drive here? >> No, my friend drove here. >> Your friend drove here? >> Yes. >> What's your first name? >> Chica Wilson. >> Spell it. >> S H E M K A Wilson. W I L O S. >> Don't turn it off. I'm sorry. >> Whoa. >> We couldn't turn it off. >> Don't do that. >> I'm I'm sorry. >> Yeah, I turned the vehicle off. >> You couldn't turn it off. >> Because we don't have the the key is in in in the in the girl's pocket. That >> Don't worry about the car. Spell your last name again. Wilson. >> W I L S O N. >> What's your date of birth, Miss Wilson? >> Go ahead. >> 12:02. >> 1202. What? >> You've been arrested before? >> Yes. >> For what? >> It's been a long night. >> For what? >> What you mean? So, I'm standing at night. >> So, you've been arrested. How old are you? >> I'm 30. Okay. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say? You listening? This is where I told you you need to listen. >> This is where I told you you need to listen. >> This is where I told you you need to listen. I'm not going to give you. You need to listen to me cuz if you don't, >> it's not going to work out. >> You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can or will be still has the position. Just FYI. And I'm not sure we're 151. Well, I believe it. >> Good morning. >> Hi. How are you? >> Going around the curb to my right. >> Good to have you. >> Thanks. You understand your rights? >> Yes. >> I have these rights in mind. Do you want to talk to me about what's going on here today? >> I want to know what's going on. We went shopping. I had to go shopping for my baby for my baby and >> I my friend was in there still paying for it. And I came out here because the car was still running and I wanted to make sure the car was still okay and she was in there paying for it. >> You walked into business with your car still running? Yes. You know that's how cars get stolen, right? >> But I can't cut it off because I didn't have the key. >> How was it running if you don't have the key? >> It's a push to start. >> Yeah, but the key has to stay in the car for >> Yeah, but it didn't. It was still in his pocket. >> Whose pocket? >> In my friend parked it. My boyfriend. >> Where's he at? >> He's at He's at the house, >> but I was already in >> the car. The car doesn't stay on unless the key is in the car. >> It was already in the middle of I was already in the middle of driving. It say no key like when you're driving. So when you turn the car off, it's gonna automatically just lock. >> Okay. Well, I guess we'll have to call your boyfriend to come bring the key. >> You just have to That's why I came to the car and just started putting stuff in the car cuz she was sitting there paying for it. >> So whose merchandise is this? >> It's me and her. >> So you're sharing. So is she paying for all of it? Do you guys split the bill? >> We split I s I sunk some money to her cash app and we splitting the bill. >> So you're paying her through cash app and she's paying for everything inside >> and her and her own car. >> All right. All right. Well, I guess we'll find out. >> Were you inside? >> How was your day? >> How's my day? >> It's been extremely busy. I had to chase a burglar. >> Sorry, I got a lot of background. Waiting for you guys before we >> This is happening. >> I got the other the rest of my squad up there with >> I'm hoping this doesn't turn into anything. Just a mistake. But the loss prevention officer said that we've scanned items and didn't pay for them. She insists the car is a push start and the key was with her boyfriend at home. Though this contradicts how push start systems operate. >> Just can I stand like right there? >> How about this? You sit lean up against your car. How about that? >> Loss prevention reports that the woman has been caught shoplifting at this location before and is likely repeating the same method, scanning items, bagging them, but not paying. >> Um, but they do that all the time. They act like one's trying to pay and the other one walks out, but their pace is like >> But then what happens? Does she then get in the car and they both leave with all the merchandise? >> Yeah, they were in it together, but it's just you can't really prove on our end cuz she didn't walk out with it. Based on what y'all able to do, you know, it's kind of >> they got you. >> Her friend inside the store is also confronted. It's revealed that $1,400 worth of items were scanned, but never paid for some already in the car. [laughter] >> What's wrong? >> Um, well, your friend walked out with hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise and didn't pay for anything. I mean, we're That's what we're doing now. >> You're paying for what? >> She's paying for >> Yes. That's what So, what I'm doing to figure out what's going on. >> How are you paying for all that stuff >> with a car? What do you mean? >> You scanned clothing items. >> I was scanning her. >> Okay. >> And she went over. >> She went over there and scanned stuff. >> Okay. She didn't pay for any of it. She know she didn't pay she didn't give anything to Target in exchange for hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise. She just walked out with it. >> Her story is that you're paying for all of the stuff that she walked out. >> She has she has her own card. I don't know. Okay. >> If like I don't know. >> So she's supposed to pay for her stuff and you're supposed to pay for your stuff. >> Well, our clothes are together but the baby formula and stuff that's someone gave her the card to go to the store to get that. Well, I don't know about week. >> Are you paying for it? >> Or if if you are, then it's already stand unless I'm misunderstanding. >> She's trying to pay for it, but the card is recently hacked or something, >> right? >> So, she was trying to get her friend's card. So, she >> and I just literally started calling her and you walked up to me >> on her friend >> and you telling me this and that's all it's like. >> Right. All right. >> What's going on? >> Well, what's going on is $1,400. Is any of that stuff still here? That's what I'm saying. >> All of it's in the car. >> It was never live in the car. That's what I'm saying. It's >> Oh, it's in the car. No, it ain't. It's in the car. >> Okay. Well, she should be in here. >> Yeah. >> That's all I'm telling you. >> Maybe she should be, but she walked out. She walked out with it all when it was >> when it wasn't paper. >> So, basically, your friend walked out with $1,44963. Oh, she has cuz we've arrested for it before. So, >> so yeah. So, I I got to go figure that stuff out. Police suspect both women coordinated the act. One walks out while the other creates a distraction or partial payment illusion >> or something like that. >> But I'm real close to believing that this is a ruse that she is also using. She's a suspect. I just not the point of putting handcuffs yet. But >> um >> all right. Meanwhile, he's hanging out here in the sun. I'm going to drive over to you. >> Miami. >> I've got tons of I'm a dad. Who's a dad? I'm I'm >> I got you. This ain't cheap. So, what I've >> What I'm looking at is $1,400 of stuff with SC and none of this was scanned. >> So, which means the total amount of things that were removed from the store is $1,400 plus all the stuff. So, I've got loss prevention. Going to figure out how much I'll >> This was when after you finished the the the transaction I wanted you to pay for. She told me to go to the computer. So she put the things on Paul. So when she doing her thing on Paul, we came I came over there and helped bag it up. Then I came out here. I said, "Let me go get the you remember the car was running." So I got the car. Simple as that. And I came out here. She still had the car in her hand. Like >> right here. Here's what here's what it completely looks like to me. >> Well, I'm sorry. And I just want to go feed my daughter. And if I can't if if I can't go I need to hurry up and just go to Publix or something to go do the tweet >> to Publix. We ain't going to Publix. >> It's not normal for one person walk out the store >> and I even I asked the um the people that work in there. I said you did you see they like they didn't even see her walk out. So I that's not understand the guy you talked to either said he didn't because he didn't or said he didn't. He didn't see her walk out. Prevention was watching >> and then listen the lady the two ladies said they didn't see her walk out either. So that's what I'm saying. Well, no one was paying attention. I didn't even notice >> they were. >> Officers informed the detained woman she is likely going to jail as no items were paid for in her story conflicts with her friends. My name is police department cuz I just got out of jail. >> I'm here. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> As long as I can positively identify you. I'm just going to put you as an involved party. >> Okay. >> Let's just do that real quick. You okay with that? What you >> doing? Yeah. Yeah. >> So, can I get on the loose now? Like she she told us she had no intention of paying for these items. She thought you were paying for them. That's what she just told us. >> Meaning you stole these items. >> I just got done chasing a burglar >> in Frenchtown and then came here for this. >> That's why my pants are all dirty. So, when I look up just a a female with your date of birth with a last name that begins with W, there is zero. >> Look up this. Hook it. Hook up this name, bro. So, here's the deal. This is how it works. If you continue to conceal your identity from us until we get to the jail, and then we find out who you are when we get to the jail cuz we scan your fingerprints and they tell us, "Yeah, this is so and so." >> He resists arrest emotionally, begs not to be taken to jail, and complains about handcuffs. Officers remain professional, but firm, calling the situation ridiculous. >> Stop. Stop. Are you kidding me right now? Get on the ground. >> Get on the ground. >> Not leave me like that. >> Don't knock me out here. I don't want to go to jail. I don't want to go to jail. >> Yeah, cuz you got warrants. >> Don't I just don't want to go to jail. Y'all are going to be nasty. Y'all going to let me go. >> Now you're going in the car. >> You got to be kidding me right now. >> Unbelievable. >> Let me go to jail. No, I'm scared. >> Oh my god. >> Stop. I got her. You bro, I got her. >> Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. >> Oh my god. >> That was ridiculous. What are you doing? or and riceing an officer without violence. Attempting to deceive police during a theft investigation, especially with a prior history, only worsens the situation. Providing false identity and resisting arrest, adds criminal charges and increases the severity of legal consequences. The last incident is that the shoplifter forces cops to drag her from the mall. >> Actually, don't put it in the numbers, but I would put them in. Police responded to a theft report at a Burlington coat factory, but the suspect wasn't a customer. It was one of the store's own employees. >> I'm Julian. I call >> Hi, Julian. I'm officer Gaza. >> Nice to meet you. Thanks for >> So, what's going on? >> Yes. So, we have an employee. Okay. >> Um, she was a cashier, so over four shifts >> starting um on the 23rd of December. Last one was on the 1st. >> Okay. >> She was a cashier. Uh, ring up ring up customers. Customers would hand her the cash. She'd take the cash, put it on the side of the register. But it's a transaction. She takes the cash. Yeah. Yep. I'm shocked that she's still here. Yeah. I can I can show you some clips just just so you can see the demo and everything. >> Well, let's go. Let's go have a chat with her. >> So, um if I read the notes right, it was a total of almost two grand. >> Yes. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. She did it. She admitted to doing it and stuff. >> During a routine audit, the store manager discovered discrepancies in the daily sales records revealing the theft. The same employee had been warned before when her register came up short. But this [music] time, instead of just a warning, she was about to be confronted by a police officer. >> Hi, ma'am. I'm officer Cole. Do you have your ID or driver's license with you today? If I may. So, what do you do for Burlington? >> I'm a cashier. >> My understanding is that you have taken some money while you're working as a cashier in the front. Can you tell me about that? Like what's what's what's the purpose behind all this? >> Money. >> Okay. Short on bills or >> my mom. >> Your mom. >> She's sick. >> Like she's got like cancer. Like really badly sick kind of stuff. How long has she been sick? >> For a while. >> She needs she has surgery medications, >> right? Does she not have insurance or anything? No. So before we go into the other stuff, there are programs out there. >> The officer stayed empathetic while questioning the woman, acknowledging her mother's illness, but making it clear that it didn't excuse her actions. [music] It was a difficult situation for everyone. Yet, there were other ways to get the help she needed without resorting to something illegal. >> A lot of pharmaceutical companies, if you fall short on something, some of them are very well known to assist with payment plans or even potentially doing things for free. Okay. The biggest thing for you and mom is you have to ask the right questions. Okay? With what you've got going on, I I shouldn't be here having this conversation with you. I think we can all empathize with you. That that's that's a very serious thing to have to go through on your own. Okay. But there's help out there. You just have to ask for it. Okay. How many times did this happen? >> Um, a few. >> What's a few? Cuz a few to me might be three or four. It might be seven, eight to you. three or four. >> The officer asked the suspect how she had been stealing the money. Since she was already caught, she didn't bother lying. But what's surprising is that she carried out the thefts in plain view, even with multiple security cameras watching. >> I kept actually [snorts] put it in the numbers, but I would put the money. >> Okay. Were you still given like the customers or change and whatnot, but you just put the money to the side and kept this for yourself? And this happened approximately four times on the same day or different days. >> Different days. [music] Okay. Were any of those like more than one on one day or just all spread across four different shifts? >> Okay. I gota How much is mom's medical expenses? [snorts] >> It's a lot. The surgery alone. >> I got thousands of dollars, >> right? Does anybody else live at home with mom or is it just you and mom? It's just her. >> Okay. So, it would be very disheartening and ill advised for me just to not show some sense of >> The suspect is fortunate to have this particular officer questioning her, but hopefully she's being honest. Stealing is one thing, but lying about something as serious as a family medical crisis would be downright cold-hearted. on what Burley Ting decides to do at this point in time. Is there anybody that would you would need to contact so mom has someone to help her out? A friend, a family member. >> Okay. >> Just me. >> Okay. Do you think mom would be okay for a day by herself if that were to be the case? >> Cuz obviously we don't want to leave mom by herself if she's so badly ill. >> She has to take a medication. She can barely walk. >> Is she bedridden? >> Yeah, basically. Okay. >> Please help him get up. [snorts] >> Okay. Gotcha. All right. Is Burlington wanting to prosecute? >> Uh, yes. >> Okay. [snorts] >> Can I see these videos if you have them? >> These days, it's nearly impossible to steal without getting caught. With state-of-the-art security cameras, police can quickly crack down on burglary and theft, though most criminals don't realize it until it's far too late. >> So, here's an instance. >> Has she seen this? >> Uh, no. No, we haven't shown it to her. >> Okay. Is it against y'all's policy for her to see it? >> Um, no, she can. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Yeah. If you want her to Yeah, that's okay. >> This This is you >> in the black sweater with your hair up. So, is this what you were talking about where you take the customer's cash, you stick it next to the register? [snorts] >> This is December 23rd. >> Yeah, that was the first >> at 8:05. Did you put the money in your pocket just then? Is that what I was seeing? >> Yeah. The catch will go on the side here. >> Okay. Another one at 8:49. Now, how were you folks able to determine the total >> um based on so um watching um the cash being handed and then um the amount that was typed in >> the comparison to the tickets? Comparison. The footage shows the [music] woman taking the money and subtly setting it aside, seemingly placing it next to a coffee cup before continuing with the transaction. If she had just looked up, she would have seen the camera recording her every move. >> So, it was like, you know, 120 cash, all no cash went in, all went to the side. Okay. >> Um, and then based on I could show you um like our reporting what that looks like. It looks like he had did this twice on the 23rd and then this day on the 30th is pretty much the same thing. You put the money next to the register and then you pocket it. And I appreciate your cander, Mrs. Con. I really do. >> Yeah, she was really open. So, >> what's this here? Is at one point you covered up some of the funds with this. Is that like a roll of paper towels or trash bag roll? So based off of the facts and circumstances, Burlington does want to pursue with criminal investigation. Okay. So because of the amount and the pattern of the activity, the way that you conducted yourself, it is a felony. So yes, you're going to be placed under arrest at this time. >> The suspect shows little emotion upon hearing she's going to jail. In a compassionate gesture, the officer [music] allows her to text or call her mother to let her know about the situation. All right. But at the end of the day, I want to make sure mom's okay as well. So, if there's something that we need to call for, let's do that. Um, the next thing is I can call the Department of Children and Families and just say, "Hey, look, you know, unfortunately the daughter was placed under arrest today. Mom's, you know, in her mid to late 50s. She's very sick, >> which is what led to the to the incident. So, we're just a little concerned for mom. Someone can just go and do a well-being check on her, make sure that she's okay, and offer her some services if she needs it." >> So, Essentially what it this is is there's a bond schedule that we have to look at. All right. What the bond schedule is is you pay a certain amount of money to a bondsman, some form of collateral, and you can get out within a few hours. If you're unable to bond yourself out of jail or have someone bond you out, you would have to go to first appearance in the morning. Okay? And then the judge will look over all the paperwork, everything that you have talked about that I'm going to put in that paperwork, and they'll make a determination from there. you know, especially if you don't have any other previous criminal history or anything like that, if they'll let you go. >> Before the suspect was escorted out, the manager took a moment to wish her mother well. The employee was arrested and charged with grand theft, but in the end, she received only 9 months of probation. Stealing might seem easy at the moment, but the truth always comes out. No hardship justifies breaking the law. >> Okay, I'm going to go back and go with my >> Okay. No, you're not. You're fitting to put your stuff down and you're going to be escorted out of the store. If you come back on the store for >> Police Confront a contractor at Lowe's, informing him he's under arrest for grand theft related to multiple theft incidents totaling over $15,000 in merchandise. >> Hello. Hi. What's going on today? So, I am actually calling to report a series of thefts that were discovered based off of uh a credit card investigation. So, let me let me pull it up. I wasn't sure when we would here. So I have uh eight cases here that should be under one case number and it consists of a guy who goes to selfch checkout and he will fail to scan items um but items like doors and wards and other things along that same line. Would you like me to break down each instance or >> when did they start? >> So, >> when did he start doing this? What date was that? >> So, it's it's it's way it's been months. Uh >> loss prevention explains that the suspect repeatedly used selfch checkout to avoid scanning large items, doors, lumber, etc. with at least eight confirmed cases in the past month. >> Actually been shopping at this store for years. Um, so when I do look back at the transactions, it goes for as long as I can have access to transactions, which means it's been going on a long time. But, um, I I can't pull video for the rest of my life on this guy. So, um, how would you like to I don't know, gather information? Do you want me to go down the line and show you the particular transaction issues or would you like me to send you a screenshot of the total and the date with >> Am I stressing you out? >> No, it's just anything over 30 days they're not going to look at. Well, >> the credit card is under his name. So, the case itself, >> I just spoke to the detectives before coming. Anything over [clears throat] 30 days, they're not they're not looking at. >> So, what was what was the most recent? Let's start there. >> So, the most recent one, which I >> And how was this brought to Lowe's attention? >> So, a cashier actually noticed that this guy had a cart full of lumber and he had only scanned a couple pieces. And you know, >> investigators note the contractor has shopped at the store for years and suspicions grew after a cashier noticed discrepancies between scanned items and what was in his cart >> system to find all the other purchases that had taken place for the last few months. And I only focused on the month within the 30 days to look at all the other transactions in which uh similar occurrences had happened. He comes in here like every other day. Um on the most recent occurrence in which he did do this, I actually saw him in person, but it was only at the tail end. I saw him exit the building >> and I uh wasn't. >> So, what's the most What's the most recent? >> It is 127 355. >> So, he goes through checkout, selfch checkout. He doesn't scan >> most of what he has. >> Okay. Um, I actually did talk to, um, ironically enough, I don't know if you know who, um, well, one of the state prosecutors was in here earlier and I mentioned this case to him and I asked him, "Hey, I plan on filing it this way." >> Loss Prevention traced the thefts through his credit card and rewards account, providing undeniable links to the fraudulent transactions >> because of the 30-day period. And I know that, you know, you haven't been taking cases because of that type of issue, but because it goes back to his credit card, which is undeniably him, I think there's a lot less plausible deniability on who it is. Uh, he also has a rewards account with us that he likes to use, too. So, that's nice. >> I'm a late start, but Kayla, you had yours on, right? Okay, perfect. So, we all uh do we need anything else in here? I mean, he looks very familiar, actually. And I >> He's super friendly to everyone. >> Of course he is. >> Which is how he gets away with it. >> The con. That's exactly what that is. And I guarantee you, do you have counterparts with um um >> Target? >> Target and Home Depot. >> No. >> Officers confirm probable cause and discuss coordination with prosecutors, noting the suspect's pattern likely extends to other stores like Home Depot or Target. Well, I'm not concerned about that. So, I need to see your ID when you're done. >> Mr. Rand, how tall are you? >> How tall are you? >> I'm 11. And how much you weigh? 204. Okay. Okay, just gonna hold on that one for a second. It's the 51. >> Okay. Uh, want to issue a trespass? >> I'm going to go down here and talk to David. But >> no, you're not. >> She's in charge. She makes the decision. You're being issued a trespass warning for you right now. If you come back on the property for a period of one year, you'll be arrested. >> What is this? Cuz I'm in here buying stuff through my pro account and business every day. Not an issue. Just don't trespass. >> You're just going to be trespassed right now for up to a year. So, we just don't want you to come back onto the property, >> whether that's to purchase anything or not. >> Okay. I'm going to go back with Okay. No, you're not. You understand? >> So don't make this something it doesn't need to be. More than likely you'll be able to walk out of here in a minute. Until then, >> relax. The pro counter and the store man tell you stand down there talking to somebody right now. Trying to figure this out now. >> Okay. How many thousands of dollars I spend in here on a daily basis? >> Hey, I we only do what they tell us to do. They don't want you in. They want an issue. I got to do what they ask. >> Cuz I'm in here. It's four of us work together. We spend thousands of dollars in here. Okay. >> Well, if the store manager decides to lift it, he can lift it. That's his >> detectives show him surveillance footage and receipts comparing what he scanned versus what he took, confirming systematic theft. >> As soon as I can. Okay. >> Okay. Um, if you'd like, we'll go to an office here real quick and talk about it. I'll show you all the pictures and everything. Um, the loss prevention officers here have done their due diligence and research. >> I didn't realize that. >> Provided complete surveillance video and everything of you at the register with a copy of each receipt for each time you scan something at the register and compared to what's on the cart you push out the store and what you scan and pay for. Police arranged to secure his truck and belongings after arrest, allowing him to make a phone call to his wife. >> You okay with that? >> Yeah. >> This truck. You want your phone though? You want to keep it? >> No. My wife. >> Arrested and charged with felony grand theft. >> The contractor is arrested. charged with felony grand theft, sentenced to 15 years probation, and ordered to pay $15,000 in restitution. Stealing may seem easy at the moment, but surveillance and records always catch up. Shortcuts through dishonesty can cost years of freedom and thousands in restitution. So, let's show you. >> She had the glasses that I picked up. She told me to put them back and and I handed them to her. >> That's fair enough. And then you'll show that dialogue when we do the video. Let's go ahead and proceed, please. >> Okay. First of all, >> here's your stuff. Put my stuff to be watched because that's the flight that I'm taking. Put my stuff back. >> Okay. We won't even be in there. >> How can you tell me when I can and can't pee? >> Would you like to come with us? >> Peing on the same plane as me. >> Yeah, that's exactly what I'm saying. For your comfort, >> I got to pee and y'all not I'm about to go pee and y'all can see right here. >> You're under investigation detention right now. You can't do anything like that right now. You may use the bathroom in our private area and this person who seems to you have trust may escort you, but you're going to go into a private escorted area with your own privacy. So, I am allowing you and giving you the immediate opportunity to use the bathroom. Do you understand that? >> Officers show her the video evidence. She insists she returned the glasses or claims it was a vape in her pocket. >> Going right now, >> so I won't miss my flight. >> All right. So, we're going to ask you a quick question. You don't understand because understanding, you would be hurt. >> I know. I know. But I know. But I hear me out. But you didn't let me finish. So I'm going to give you some information. We watched the video camera. We did see you take the glasses. We did see you putting your persons and we saw you walk out. We didn't see you go back in and give it back to her. So my next question is where is it? Where did you put it? >> I handed them back to her. >> Not according to the video. You walked out. >> You didn't tell me. Okay. So where's that? >> So So I'm asking you where did you put it? >> I didn't put them nowhere. I gave them back to her. >> Not according to the video footage. >> Well, I gave them back to her. >> Not in the video footage. So she I might have a look alike or something, but I don't have no glasses. >> It says you see Georgia bulldogs. You got blue shoes. Exactly. But you can't hold me accountable for something that I don't got. >> So we could because on video and it shows you walking out with never coming back. You never gave it back to her. >> She said when you touch your glasses, give them back to me for sanitary purposes. I handed her the glasses back for her to >> You know what? This could be easily resolved. We're just going to look at the video and then you can recount your side of the story and then we'll be done. >> But if you said you already seen the camera, then what is you taking me back over there for? I don't have no glasses. >> I want you. The suspect accuses police of discrimination, threatens to sue, and demands to call her lawyer.
