Stop. I got I'm blind. >> I'm going to have you step set up, >> babe. I'm blind. >> Okay. >> And I have a baby. >> Come on. >> YES, I AM. >> PLEASE, please don't >> just face the vehicle. >> Please, please don't. >> This isn't going to turn into a fight. >> Please, please don't arrest me. >> You'd have to be pretty foolish to try shoplifting in the first place. But the criminals in today's video take that foolishness to a whole new level. Don't expect any criminal masterminds here. Their attempts to outwit the police are about as effective as using a screen door on a submarine. >> First time living alone. And I [ __ ] up, bro. I know. I [ __ ] up. I'm I'm being stupid. You can do anything. Just don't take me to jail. Please. You can give me a fine. I'll do >> On February 1st, 2025, police responded to a report of a woman shoplifting at Walmart. Officers quickly intercepted her at the exit and instructed her to cooperate. >> Please, please, Alina County. I I'll go to four. Hey, come here. >> Oh, sorry. >> Come here. Put your stuff down. >> Okay. >> Put yourself down. >> What? >> He told me to go charge my phone to show you the online order. >> Okay. We're going to go this way. >> Can I grab my purse real quick? >> Where's your purse at? >> Right there. >> Well, it's coming with us. >> Okay. Take a seat, please. over there. >> So, the reason we have you in here today is this OC. >> Is this OC? >> What's that name? >> Organized retail crime. >> I don't know. >> Are you boosting for anyone? >> Oh, no. No. I just I just I just got my first apartment. And >> what's your middle name? >> It's my my dad's initial M. >> Okay. >> I know I know you're an officer and I know you can extend courtesy and I know I made a mistake, but please please I'll send me a county. I I'll go to court. I'll do community service. I'll pay the friends. I know I [ __ ] up. If you guys need to put me on a on a payment plan that I need to come here and pay everything, I'll do whatever. Just please don't send me to county. I've never been to jail and I just can't go to county. I can't do that to my parents. I don't want to tell them. Okay. >> Made me embarrassed. >> Well, you should have saw your parents before you started. >> I messed up. I know. My aunt's an NYPD officer. So, if you can extend any courtesy for me and just not take me to jail, I'll deal with every other consequence that I have to deal with. >> Question. Have you done this before? Um, I did it once. Yeah. Uh, I think Target. >> Were you arrested for it? >> No. >> And another one. >> Officers verified her identity and discovered she had been arrested a month earlier for a similar theft. She insisted she was changing and getting therapy. >> Walmart. I never got arrested for it and it was not above like $300 >> a month ago. >> Yeah. Actually, at Walmart they took me county cuz it was there but that was that's not Oklahoma City County. And I got a lawyer and I'm I'm doing everything I can. I This is my first time living by myself. I I don't know if you can see this, but I had November 5th and the >> What was it for? >> The Walmart situation and he dropped it to just disorderly conduct. If I don't know if you can see that. >> Yeah, we'll be able to find it. So, basically the deal is if you have a conviction for Lars within 10 years, you're going to go to jail. Okay. >> Like I have to go to jail. to jail. As far as it's more than $900, I have to go to jail. I will You can >> If you don't have a conviction, then we're not going to do that. But >> um I don't I don't think I don't have a con I don't think I have a conviction. >> Well, then you're not you're probably not >> But if I do have a conviction, can you take me from me? >> No. >> How will you know if I have a conviction or not? >> We're looking up. >> Okay. And there's no there's no courtesy you can extend for me to not >> Absolutely not. You're stealing. >> I know. I know. People make dumb mistakes. >> Well, there's consequences when you make bad decisions, right? >> And I'll make up for them in any other way. I just I don't want to go to I don't want to get raped. I don't want to go to jail. I don't want to get raped. >> Do you have a total yet? >> That's the last case from a month ago. >> Did it say the amount on that one? >> This one was 31576. >> Sorry, I'm just anxious. >> Okay. >> So, conviction means that the judge said like I'm charged with this fine, right? >> Well, it's not a fine. >> I'm charged with the crime, right? Charge. >> Okay. That's not happening. No. >> Okay. He's looking it up right now. So if if we do >> and then if I don't have a conviction, I'll just get a ticket and have to go to court. >> Maybe >> if you can any kindness any please don't put me to jail. >> Well, it's not a matter of kindness, right? >> I know it's a I I made a mistake. I know I messed up. >> You've done multiple mistakes. >> I know and I'm working on it and if you not working because you did it again, right? >> I'm sorry. I can't I can't even believe that that you would a month ago get arrested for doing this and then come right. >> When informed she could face new charges, she broke down in tears, begging for leniency and even mentioning a relative in the NYPD, hoping it might prevent her arrest. >> Back and do it again. >> I know it's when when you when you don't have money and you're trying to make ends meet, you're you don't know what to do. >> Okay. I know a lot of people that don't have money that make ends meet without stealing. >> I know. I know. And and if my phone turns back on, like my lawyer made me make an appointment with my therapist and discuss it with them to like I can show you all of that and like I'm a good person. I'm an honor student. I can show you that like this is just my first time living alone and I [ __ ] up, bro. I know I [ __ ] up. I'm I'm being stupid. You can do anything. Just don't take me to jail, please. You can give me a fine. I'll do community service. I'll do anything. So you are going to be trespassed from all Walmarts. You guys did it literally a month ago. >> Is that forever? >> Um it's for 2 years but so let's say you on Sam's Club and they they can pull you up. >> Okay. >> Uh it's tech Walmart property. >> So it's all Walmart Sam's Club Walmart gas station gas station or anything incorporated. >> So um next month I should be getting a pharmacy job. If you guys give me the total amount of what I've stolen and I come and pay all the amount back, could you slip that? >> That's not my decision. And that's not even like >> Is that something that I could do though? >> Um, you'd have to contact our home office people and then they'll be >> So, could you give me a price of everything from both Walmart so that I can know so that maybe hopefully I have the funds and I can like, you know, fix what I >> what I have to wait till he gets >> Okay. >> All that. >> So, I'm sorry. I'm I'm I'm sorry I'm talking a lot. I'm just anxious. So, it's your discretion to take me to jail or not? >> I mean, up to a certain point, if you have a conviction now. >> Okay. So, if I haven't come have a conviction, you won't take me? >> Not necessarily. We'll see. >> Okay. Is there anything I can do to make this issue for better for Walmart? Like, do community service like pay slowly pay it back? Like, is there anything I can do? >> Cuz I know I [ __ ] up. I was stupid. I [ __ ] up. I was I don't I don't want this to be my life. Like, I said I would want to be a pharmacist. like I want to have a life. I just made a stupid decision. I'm just stupid. I'm a good person. Like I do a lot. I do community service. I help people. I just made a terrible mistake today. But this is not who I am. It's my first time moving out and I just I just I just wanted everything and I'm stupid and I'm sorry. I don't know if you know the answer to this. If I do go to jail, do you know how long I have to be there for? >> I don't know. Police explained that due to the value of the stolen items and her repeat offense, jail time was unavoidable. The suspect panicked and continued pleading, but the law applies to everyone. >> How much was it? >> 7. >> Okay. It wasn't a,000. >> What was it? >> 750. >> $7.50. >> Oh, no. 750. 750. >> Okay. So, it wasn't a,000. Okay. >> So, the the 750 is the total amount that she took. Is that right? >> So, I think you're going to take me to jail. >> 750 is not looking good. >> It's not 1,000. So please >> I'm just telling you're pretty That's pretty close,000. >> I know. I know. >> It wasn't like in and the stuff about you being broker that >> No, I know. I know. I know. >> You're you're taking rugs and >> I know I'm just taking house stuff like a vacuum, a mop, like >> you know, and I know 750 is not, but you know, it's not it's not a,000. So if you can just give me that cuz it's not a,000. Please just extend any kind of courtesy you can't. >> It's not about courtesy. >> I know, but you said a thousand. It's not >> said a thousand is a felony. We arrest people a lot of times for stuff that's not a felony. >> Okay. >> Here's the deal. Sorry it took me so long. It took me a while to find you in the system. >> Okay. >> It sounds like whenever you do that, you're just trying to change your name so that we don't >> Oh, no. No. That's why I gave you my address and I could give you my social security right now. >> No, I found you. Yeah, that's not my point. My point is >> No, I gave you both. I tried to give you and I also gave him both names, Edua as well. Yeah, just cuz I'm >> You got to stop it literally almost. >> Okay. Well, how did she spell her name? >> This one. >> Okay. Yeah, that's her name in the system. Well, that's not the name that she gave me initially. >> Okay. >> So, deal. Um, >> are you giving me false info? >> No, I didn't give you false. >> That could be an additional charge. Okay. Wait, but I gave you I gave you the correct spelling of both names, though. >> Bottom line is 691 worth of stuff. You're going to counting. Okay. >> Okay. No, you've done this multiple times. You ob you just got arrested for it a month ago and you just did it again, which shows us that you have absolutely no contrition for what you did. >> I know >> you weren't stealing essential items. >> You were stealing a vacuum, a broom. >> We're not talking about it. >> You're going to jail. After completing the necessary paperwork, police informed her she was permanently banned from all Walmart and Sam's Club locations. She continued to cry and plead, but the decision stood. >> But can I say something? My lawyer My lawyer told me that if it's not if it's below $900 that I don't have to go to jail. >> Your lawyer doesn't make decisions on who >> Okay. I'm sorry. I don't I don't mean to offend you or anything, but please all I I I know you want I know you want to take me to county. I know you do, but please >> why would I want to do that? >> Because you're doing your job and I and I respect that and I respect that. But I also know I also know if I don't know like how this like there's someone ringed above you or anything. If he was able to give me a chance, he would give me a chance. So can you give me can you give me that chance? >> So basically what's going to happen is they said that they're going to allow you to keep your car here in the parking lot. So we're not going to impound it. >> Okay. But you're going to have to have some when you ever you get out or get your phone call, you're going to have to have someone pick up your car other than you cuz you can't come back here because you're trespass. Okay. >> Okay. >> Okay. So, we're going to refund the items that you paid for. So, they're going to take care of that. >> And can I keep the items or No, >> I mean you're going to jail. You're not going to be allowed to have them there. >> Can I just like put put them in my car key cuz I'll take my car key with me. >> When you take a switch, what do you actually pay for? >> Yeah. So, I I think they're cutting you a break by giving me a refund. >> Okay. Can I Can I say one thing without you hating me? I know you already hate me right now. >> I don't hate you. >> If you have Yeah, you might have kids. You might not have kids. We're not We're not going to keep >> No, if if you could just extend the courtesy for me if your kids made a mistake. Please don't do this to me. >> I hurt anybody. >> It'll break my parents heart. Officer, please. Please give me a chance. Please. >> Uh >> yeah, we should be good to go. >> Officer, please. Please. >> You You did this. >> I know. I know. I did this right now. Blaming us. >> I know. I know. I'm not blaming you guys. I just My aunt's an NYPD officer and she tells me she sends courtesy to people all the time because >> Okay. I I would really appreciate if you stop said courtesy cuz it's not a courtesy. You just stole $600. >> I know. And I made a mistake and I'm aware of it and I want you to know I'm aware of it and I and I will whatever you want me to do, I will show you changes actively. I will I will do it. Please. >> We should be good to go here then. Um you guys need anything else? Officer appreciates you guys. >> All right, you guys take care. Let's go and stand up for me. All right, >> officer. Please stand up. >> Thank you. >> You know where the car is. I just don't want my my parents or my family members to see me. >> Finally, officers escorted her to the patrol car for transfer to the county jail. >> Please, officer. I'll do anything. I'll do hours of community service. I'll change an option. >> You don't you don't have the authority to do that. If you have the authority, please just help me. And I'm sorry I'm being annoying, but please just don't send me to county. Please, officer. I'll do anything. I'll do anything. I'll do community service hours every day. I'll do anything. >> Go ahead and take a seat. Okay. >> I'll do anything. Officer, please. Officer. >> Officer, please >> get in the car. Okay. >> I'm going to county. I'm >> closing the door. You're going to county. Get inside the car. I'm closing the door. Get in. >> There's no way to take me to county. >> No. >> Okay. I'm >> Put your head in. Put your head in. Yeah, let's step out. Stay right there. Nice. Will >> you like Percy? Stay right there. >> Stay right there. Face my car. >> Like back like this. >> Who you just face my car? >> Oh, face your car. Sorry. >> Different way of learning. >> All right. We're going to walk inside. Okay. >> Do I walk in front of you? >> Yeah. I know you didn't want to go to jail. That's what happened. >> I know. >> But you need to hopefully you learned your lesson. We're not going to do it again. Okay. Cuz it >> face this way. >> Walk straight. Yep. What are you walk? >> Yeah, the stairs. >> What happens now? Like >> we're going to wait our turn to get in line. We're going to go in there. They're going to book you in. They just basically process you. You just sign up. They take us off. >> The men and women are separate, right? >> In their in the same room. >> Well, there's only two people room >> like we're in the same holding cell. >> No, you'll be in a different holding cell. >> Okay. >> We're going to go into this room. They book you, they process you, then you go to medical place, talk to a nurse, then you go to >> She now faces potential charges for retail theft and providing false information to law enforcement. Taking even minor items without paying can turn into a serious legal problem. Think twice before acting on impulse. Think the last one was wild. The next thief takes it to a whole new level. Comment your guess and hit subscribe so you don't miss it. DON'T YOU stop it. Stop it. >> On July 3rd, 2025, officers confronted a woman, Grace, at Target after being caught stealing 1,05359 tons worth of merchandise. They review the stolen items which include food, apparel, electronics, and miscellaneous items. >> Have my wallet be valuable. >> Why do people think not having something gives them the right to steal it? >> Good afternoon. >> Um, we do have a subject in custody right now. She's abandoned in the office. If I can take you over that way. >> Okay. This is the >> Is this all this stuff? >> It's all of this. Yeah. >> All of this. >> It's a total of 105359. >> 1053,000. >> Yeah. 53. >> Jesus. Okay. >> My last one was 700. >> Hello. What's up? What's up? >> So, what do we got? >> So, pretty much all that. Seen her select it all and then just walk out without pain. >> Okay. All right. What's your name? >> Grace. >> Grace. All right. Grace, what's going on with all this stuff here? >> I'm really homeless. I tried to walk out just to at least have something to my name or be able to chill out and I don't know. My phone just got broke. My wallet just got stolen. I came from a situation at my boyfriend's house. I tried to go to my mom's house. She ended up having everyone come into my room and steal from me. So, I headed down to Chicago with an old friend. Me and them ended up getting into a fight. So, now I'm here. I'm trying to make ends meet. Officers note that although the total stolen amount qualifies as a felony, most items were essential for a homeless person. They consider issuing a local ordinance ticket instead of pressing criminal charges. >> I stank. All I wanted was panties and socks to begin with this [ __ ] but I was I was going to put all that [ __ ] into suitcase and make my way. >> Okay. Do you have ID? >> No, sir. Like I said, my wallet was just stolen from me. >> Wallet was stolen. Did you report that? Uh, what phone? >> Don't need a phone. You could walk into a police station. >> It's a photocopy ID. I wish I wish I had more to my name to have my wallet be valuable, honestly. >> Okay, so it's a female um down on her luck. Had a bunch of stuff stolen from her, fighting whatever with the boyfriend. Uh they got a receipt of over $1,000 worth, but it's like a whole bunch of just like food items, uh drinks, just miscellaneous stuff that would literally be for a homeless person. Looks like a mat backpack. >> Discussion between officers about whether to press charges or handle the situation via a local ordinance. Grace becomes defensive and argumentative but remains cooperative. >> All right. What uh you guys seen her before? >> No, separation. >> Okay. Um I just called my sergeant and just wanted to make sure. Uh do you guys are you guys okay with a local ordinance? >> Um I would be just the fact that if whenever it's a huge amount like this, they want us to press charges like the amount. >> Okay. Isn't it 300 bucks? My sergeant's pushing for given the circumstances. Homeless. You guys got the stuff back. Uh just given the circumstances. >> That's what I told him over the phone. Okay. >> She's cooperative. But obviously up to you guys. Just letting you know what what he's suggesting we do. >> Again, just running everything by you, letting you know what the sergeant says and thinks. Are you okay with that? Okay. We'll >> do that. I'll see what she says. Uh, >> gotcha with info. Most everything was like food and like Yeah, like >> what all were you buying today? >> Nothing as you can see. >> I mean, it's a lot of it's a lot of things. >> Yeah, I was going in there. >> Bunch of apparel. Bunch of electronics. >> A bunch of electronics. Let me see that real quick here because I ain't I ain't touch mother. Y'all going to try to [ __ ] up in my mother. >> Grace. Grace, don't get loud. All right. No, because at the end of the day, >> don't get loud. All right, listen to what he has to say. >> I'm not trying to push authority on them. I'm not pushing authority. >> You don't try to make your voice louder than mine when you try to start dominant. You don't you're not I'm not in your Okay, >> I'm talking the same tone as I did when I first came in here. Okay, >> I'm literally reading off this receipt that they have. >> Everything is categorized. apparel, electronics, three items, groceries, health and beauty, home, stationary, and office supplies, and toys. Okay, that's all I'm reading to you. I'm just trying to talk to you. All right, I talked to my sergeant. >> He is more than willing to just charge with a local ordinance. >> Illinois, >> it's a local ordinance. I don't even know what y'all are talking about. >> I'll explain it to you. Okay, >> no need to give Illinois. >> Ordinance is a ticket basically in Rosemont as opposed to you being charged criminally through the courts. All right, this is a felony amount. Not trying to insert dominance. Okay, I think everybody here would agree. I'm talking to you with respect, not raising. Grace emphasizes the danger of being on the streets without supplies, expressing fear for her safety. Officers begin processing her, including cuffing, while accommodating her request to be cuffed on the left hand. >> My tone. All right. Suggestion is that you cooperate and continue to because you have so far. all winter. >> And again, >> with the store's approval and my sergeant's approval, we can just charge you given the circumstances. Homeless >> down on your luck. We're not trying to you. Excuse my language. If I go in those streets without some of those supplies, guess what's going to happen to me on that CTA? I'm going to be snatched up and left in a ditch. And then you're going to be the one discovering my body. How are you going to like that one? Young Grace slit open in the middle of a ditch. You don't even recognize my face because of how up I am. Cuz that's what happens to young girls in the middle of the night in Chicago. Tell me I'm wrong. >> All right. Do you want to talk yourself into a felony? >> Not talking myself into anything. I'm being honest. If you don't want to hear the truth, if you want to be brainwashed, >> I'm being straightforward with you. Okay. All right. I'm going to go out to the car, start this uh check on the DL image. Uh, can we cuff her to the bench? Uh, and then I will be back. >> Are you right-handed or left-handed? >> Uh, am I left-handed or right-handed? >> Correct. >> I am right-handed. Is there any way we can put it on my left though, so I can have these to cushion the cuffs? Pretty please. We can do it. >> Grace expresses discomfort with officers standing too close. Officers confirm her identity and plan to fingerprint her. She asserts her rights requesting a female deputy for searches or pat downs. >> Okay, we're not going to put them on dead tight. Trust me. Okay, I'm going to put them on your left cuz you're right-handed. >> I'm going to go back to the car, wait for the positive ID based on picture. Um, >> won't hurt. >> And then as long as everything's still the same, kosher, same route. Okay, with that. All right, I'll be back. But do you understand that I'm kind of in the corner and you're kind of standing above me? So this is a little bit of an intimidating situation. So if you could please step step back a little bit that would make mefortable between us. >> Well actually co distance is six. >> Okay. Well >> sir, >> you're going to have to be in close proximity. >> I might have pneumonia and you're making me uncing comfortable. >> And that's assault. You want to assault an office? >> I'm not assaulting nobody because he's coming. He's Why are you moved. >> Why can't you stand back there? >> Would you like me to step back? >> Okay. >> All right. All right. Grace, still trying to confirm your identity. All right. How old are you? >> 25. >> 25. Okay. All right. So, what's going to happen is uh we're going to take you back to the station. >> Okay. We have to fingerprint you to confirm your identity. All right. Are there going to be any issues when we get your fingerprints back? You're not wanted. Your different name. What's that? >> Not counting on it. >> Not counting on it. >> Tension escalates as Grace resists claiming assault and expressing distress. Officers manage her physically while trying to calm her down. >> Gro me and hurt me. >> There's multiple witnesses. Cameras are on. All right. Okay. >> I I just I don't necessarily feel comfortable with the grown man's hands on top of me. >> There's a lot of other people present. Obviously, I'm not going to do anything. >> It would just make me feel more comfortable if you got a female deputy on scene. >> All right. Well, we don't run now. We're going to run you back. >> Well, sir, I really don't feel comfortable in this position without a female. >> Well, so you're going to assault me. You're going to touch me without my permission. >> That's what that is. >> Legally do my job. Okay. >> You are legally going to assault me and touch me without my permission. Can you stand up for me? >> Stand up. >> Stand up. >> Stand up. >> Are you going to make us make you stand up? Stand up. >> Stand up. >> Don't touch me. You about to grop my [ __ ] >> Don't you touch >> Stop it. Stop it. >> HEY, YOU'RE TOUCHING MY POOP. HE'S TRYING TO GRAB THE HE'S TRYING TO GRAB IT. STOP. LET ME OUT. LET ME OUT. LET ME OUT. LET ME OUT. Any injuries? I'm good. >> YOU SLAP ME IN MY FACE WITH YOUR COUGH, YOU PIGS. >> GRACE, are you injured at all? >> Yes. >> All right, we'll call the medics. >> Your [ __ ] my bag chang. He's going to adjust it. Stop moving. >> I got two grown men on top of me as A YOUNG GIRL. YOU ARE HURTING ME. >> Stop moving. >> You good? >> Stop. Stop. Stop. Calm down. >> Calm down. >> CALM THE OFF OF ME. YOU >> calm down. >> YOU CALM DOWN. Calm down. >> YOU GOT MY ONE CUP. Calm down. >> That's a prank. >> You can't adjust that. >> WHEN YOU CALM DOWN, >> when you calm down, I can adjust it on you. I wish you calm down. Clearly, I wish death on you. >> I can adjust it. >> All right. STOP. >> You know 3015. Officers provide calming instructions and attempt to manage Grace's panic. She prays and continues to express fear and distress while officers work to stabilize the situation. >> Everyone, are you about to GET YOUR [ __ ] BACK OUT OF YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOU? You psych. >> Okay. Are you going to calm down? >> Are you going to calm down? >> So, you're threatening me. >> Are you going to calm down? It's a question. Are you going to calm down? You might >> are you going to calm down? We're not going to get you up until we're comfortable that you can remain calm. Okay. >> Well, since you have a target 7,000 Nheim, it's going to be >> in the I refuse to speak to you. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Which is fine. >> You still got a job to do. You >> Is that from her? >> I think that's from her. >> Okay. >> You bleeding anywhere? >> Yeah. She's got a cut on her face. >> On her face? Yeah. Okay. All right. >> NorCon 301, do we have medics in >> row 104, you can advise for a psyche val >> and a female offender bleeding from the face and just document that there was a physical altercation with this subject. my car. That's why my terrible car. >> Grace, breathe. Grace, >> calm down. Calm down through your nose and out your mouth. Grace, my lips, >> calm down. We'll grab them. Don't grab them. OKAY. >> Take a deep breath. Please, please take these evil men down. Lord, please. Please help me. Please help. You got to calm down. Okay, you have to calm down. >> I got them. I got them. I got them right here. >> He took them and they were not. Stop. Stop. Okay. >> OKAY. ALL RIGHT. GRACE, YOU HAVE TO TRY TO CLIMB DOWN. OKAY, >> GRACE, take a deep breath. >> Focus on your breathing. All right. >> Grace is assisted to stand and officers ensure her safety and compliance during the process. >> Despite her discomfort with the lack of a female paramedic, she is ultimately secured. >> Grace, >> we need your cooperation. Okay. >> Grace, we're going to have to stand you up so we can That's what SHE >> LISTEN. OKAY, relax for one second. Just relax for one second. Okay, just relax. >> All right, can you walk over to the cut? >> Oh my god. We're going to get him. We're going to get him. Oh, just take a seat right here. Okay. >> All right. Can you stretch out your legs for me? >> Thank you. >> Okay. Sit back. >> It's okay. >> Here, I'm going to borrow that leg really quick. I don't like >> Just say the back a little bit. Okay. >> Just Just some straps for safety. I need a girl. I need a girl. >> We don't We don't have a woman paramedic available right now. Okay. >> Wait, what's your name? >> I need a girl. Okay. >> Yeah. >> Um, sounds like you were barred from here previously from a theft. So, you're going to be charged additionally with criminal trespass and then the theft of the items taken. Okay. So, my advice to you, once you get all this stuff taken care of, you probably ought to go to the hospital and get your knee looked at >> prior to prior to going in a store and trying to steal some clothes. Seems to be >> I don't have any clothes. I mean, tell you right now, there's plenty plenty of people running around town right now handing out clothes. I say the only receipt we have right now is for the popcorn that she's got there with her. >> And uh is that receipt in the bag? Sometimes the truth hurts, but lying your way through a stolen car case hurts way more. Cooperate early. It's cheaper than adding three extra charges. Now, what about my bike? >> Store staff recognize a familiar face. A repeat shoplifter previously caught on video leaving in unpaid clothing. This time they monitor him closely as he cuts tags, damages merchandise, and heads to the register while already wearing items he hasn't paid for. >> He is in my line right now, but I'm going to go ahead and see if he'll buy his items so that way we can get him trespassed. >> Yeah, for sure. >> Oh, no. I do have a video of him walking out though, wearing our clothes. Um, and then he came in right now and I had noticed him and I sent it to my manager. I was like, "Do we know this person?" Like the main manager. And he was like, "Oh yeah, that's the guy that walked out wearing our clothes." And um, >> when was that? >> Let me look. I have the video. >> Was it within the last month or so? >> Not in the last month, I don't think. I think it was like go back and then he was trying to cut hard tags off. Yeah, you could do that. >> I don't know if I'm able to pursue from the last one, too. But >> well, if you have video of today, we can go with that. >> All right. Yeah, I'll go ahead and pull it up. >> Or if you got the clothes, take a look. >> Oh, no. He's in line with it right now. Staff discuss with police whether to let him pay or move forward with charges, pointing to surveillance footage showing him in stolen clothes. >> Yeah. I just had >> You want to let him pay for the clothes? >> Yeah, we can let him pay for it. I mean, if he's going to pay for it, pay for it. But Hello. >> Um, so if he pays for the clothes, you just want to trespass. >> Yes. >> Okay. So that's him walking out. Those are hard curves on him. He's wearing a jacket. >> When confronted, the suspect insists he did pay for the shoes on his feet, but the receipt doesn't match. After some back and forth, he admits he already put them on and is detained. Appreciate it. Thank you. >> Yeah, I know these are your shoes. >> Yeah, those are our shoes you're wearing. You cut them off. >> No, I just paid for them, man. >> No, for these, man. >> I don't see the shoes on here. Where are the other things you had in your cart? >> Which ones? I don't have no blue ones. >> I don't know why, >> dude. I just paid for my stuff, man. >> And then what about the last time you were? >> I ma'am, I haven't been here in over a year. >> So, you said you just paid for those shoes? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Okay. And you put them on already? >> Yeah. I don't What's wrong with it? >> Look, it's just kind of weird. >> You didn't I don't see Yeah, >> I haven't even walked out of the store or nothing, man. >> I get you, bro. I get you. You just put your hands behind your back right now. >> Officers explain he'll face at least a criminal citation and possibly more if warrants are found. The suspect reluctantly removes the stolen shoes and changes back into his own. >> As long as you're clear, um, you know, I can see about the criminal uh citation. >> Okay. But at the very least, it's going to be a criminal citation. >> Yeah. Let me go ahead and >> at uh you you've been in court. >> Are you going to come back or you go back at 135 East? >> It's been a long time. >> Been a long time. Okay. Do you remember how much they were? >> They were 24. >> 24. Okay. You have an idea? >> No. >> I'm going to go look at the video. >> Oh, it's you. I'm talking to my unit real quick. >> I can't get my shoes. >> Huh? >> My shoes. >> Identified as Hector. Officers note he's calmer than during previous encounters. A background check reveals four active warrants, felony larseny, municipal shoplifting, and unpaid fines. >> You know, we all pay for our stuff. You know what I mean? If I pay for my stuff, I expect other people to pay for their stuff. >> What was your first name? >> Hector. >> Hector. Yeah. 42272. >> Now, what about my bike? While waiting, Hector politely asks for food and water. Officers provide beef jerky and a drink, noting his cooperative demeanor. >> Still getting my jerky drink. >> Yeah. Yeah. Just let me have you have a seat and then I'll I'll get you a piece or two. >> All right. Just bear with me. Okay. Yeah. I'm going to see if I can just drop this off at his mom's house. Maybe drop the bike there. I think Oh, you think we can drop the bike off at mom's house? >> You love? >> Yeah. >> Who lives at uh Defiance? >> My mom. >> Your mom? >> Mhm. >> Okay. I hear what you need. Yep. Hector was detained for shoplifting, caught wearing unpaid merchandise, damaging items, and cutting tags. That alone would normally result in at least a criminal citation for shoplifting. But the bigger issue is his four active warrants, felony larseny, municipal shoplifting, unpaid fines. Stealing may seem like a quick fix, but it only leads to deeper trouble and consequences. Honesty and responsibility are always the better path. No matter how hard life gets, >> I will. You can't. Officers managed to hit Cody once with a bean bag round, but he kept waving his knife. One officer crept up to the plane and used pepper spray to force him out, but it only made Cody more erratic. And then he blurted out something to the officers that no one saw coming. >> I will cut you. I am a suicide bomber. >> You're under arrest. Come out. >> Allah Akbar. >> There is no vehicle button. >> I don't for saying Allah Akbar and that he's a suicide bomber. >> Come out with your hands out. Do it now, sir. I just want to talk and see WHAT'S GOING ON. COME ON. through my entire leg. >> All right, come down here. We're talking. Okay, >> I'm going to cut my wrist. >> Sir, step out of the place. >> Don't Don't force Don't force you. >> Yep. Hughes Hughes is coming. We just want to help you out. Come on. >> We need gas or something. He's in there. He's hit with a knife. It's fine. >> Can you step out and talk to us, please? Drop the knife. >> He's got the knife in his right hand. >> Drop the knife. >> Left hand. Left hand. >> Sir, >> we don't want to hurt you. Just come out. We want to talk. No one wants to hurt you, >> sir. Drop the knife and come out. Sir, >> look. If you shut the door, [ __ ] pilot. I won't blow it up here. >> If he moves across that door, bag him. >> Why don't you step out of the car and we'll talk. Okay. What's your name, bud? >> Bag him again. BAG HIM AGAIN. BAG HIM AGAIN. Did he drop the knife? I can't see it. >> I can't tell. >> No, it's still in his hand. Still in his hand. Drop the knife. >> Cody, just come out, man. >> Sir, come out. You won't be hurt. >> Just come out. We don't want to hurt you. >> Right back to the right. >> Yeah. When he when he crossed it, don't worry. He bean bagged him. Hit him. Good. But >> the officers assured Cody that he wouldn't be harmed if he came out of the plane with his hands in the air. Given everything he had been saying, it seemed likely he was either intoxicated or struggling with a mental health crisis. >> Out here. >> Promise not to shoot. We will not shoot you. We will not hurt you if you come out with your hands up. Empty. Thank you. >> You just threw something else, too. >> It's on the top step. All right, let's see your hands, buddy, and just walk out. >> Oh, you just come out. Keep your hands up, buddy. Okay, >> drop it. Just drop it. Drop it. >> Drop it. >> Come on out. Slow it down. >> Cody, where are you from? >> I don't like them. >> I don't like them. >> How do we end up here today? Do you talk to me? What's your plan today? Do you have any explosives with you? What what kind of explosives do you have? C4. Where did you get that? Government. >> Cody escalated the situation by threatening to blow up the airplane with C4 explosives, claiming he'd gotten them from the government. He told officers he had a dead man's switch and two handguns on board and even offered to hand over the switch, but only if they let him use the bathroom first. >> We can't let you take it, but we can get you to a bathroom. We can uh can have you come down here and then we can get you to a bathroom. I can tell you that. There's one right in the hanger. All you got to do is back off so I can take a switch. Back up 30 ft. >> Well, you can only back up if you're starting to come out, though. But come on. You're not moving, man. >> Because I got shot in the leg. >> Okay. Come to the top of the stairs. >> Come on. >> Nope. >> We're back pretty far, man. >> Back off and I'll give you the bomb. >> Well, we backed up and you didn't come to the stairs. You're still with the Raven C4. So, you didn't really get >> Okay, you can't back off that far. We'll take two more steps back if you come to the top of the stairs. Okay, Cody, we're going to throw you a little camera to look at. Okay, you can talk to it. All right, it's going to be right in the middle here. >> According to the staff here, there's not not anybody else. >> Cody, Cody, >> let's keep keep lethal in there. Somebody does have a gun. >> Cody, Cody, I can't hear you. You got to come to the stairs. >> They're all shot. >> Come on out, brother. We'll get you to the bathroom. >> He just stole two burns of cigarettes from same suspect. >> You can clear. >> The officers quickly realized a bigger danger. If Cody had even a basic idea of flying, he could try to take off. Fortunately, airport workers disabled the jet's battery, leaving the officers with just one task. Get Cody off the plane without anyone getting hurt. >> Your hands. Keep your hands. Okay, we don't want to hurt you. Okay. Stand up for me. >> We got to stabilize. >> All right. We got a spot. >> Clear the rest quick. Is there a bed? cigarettes here. >> There's my stolen cigarettes. >> Yep. >> Found my stolen cigarettes. He's my my suspect of my cigarette, too. >> You guys check for a second. >> No, not yet. I don't know where they're at. >> I don't know if they hit him or not. Cody ended up facing six charges from the incident, including felony counts of attempted carjacking with a weapon attempted robbery with threat of force, making terrorist threats, bomb scares, failure to comply, and misdemeanor criminal damage to property. Reckless actions can escalate minor crimes into life-changing legal trouble. Once law enforcement and federal agencies get involved, the consequences only get heavier.
