I didn't [ __ ] do anything wrong. Stop. >> Hey. Hey. >> Why do I have to stay in jail for something like this? I can't hurt someone. I mean, this is crazy. I've never been in trouble in my entire life. Why do I have to spend the night in jail? Shoplifting might seem like a small crime, but some people managed to turn it into a full-blown disaster by refusing to cooperate, trying to run and denying any responsibility. Today, we're diving into some of the worst shoplifters ever caught on body cam to see if they finally learned their lesson. >> Out here with these mother's girl, I ain't got no marks, NO NOTHING. I'M good all day, every day. and a big crack down. You kick >> police called to the grocery store after the manager reports a woman causing a scene and trying to leave with items. The woman repeatedly insists she's paying for my stuff and mentions doing three different transactions. >> I'm paying myself. I got three different transactions and that's all I was doing. Three different transaction. I'm paying for my stuff. Why the [ __ ] that I GOT TO I GOT A MOTHER A MAN to a [ __ ] WHY I GOT TO DO THAT? AND I'M PAYING FOR MY [ __ ] >> WHAT DO YOU What do you mean? Amen. >> Him. >> Okay. >> I'M PAYING FOR MY STUFF. THREE DIFFERENT TRANSACTION. I [ __ ] GOT MONEY. [ __ ] AIN'T WORRYING ABOUT THAT. BUT I'M JUST SAYING I'M PAYING FOR MY STUFF. She didn't pay FOR HER ITEMS, >> RIGHT? >> I'm speaking to him, so give me one second. >> Officer summarizes woman said she would ring items one by one, but actually had a car full and attempted to walk out. Manager wants her trespassed. >> Relax. >> Relax. Um, and so she stated to them that she was going to try to uh do >> one by one individual on the items, >> but she had the whole car full ready to walk out. >> So manager just wants to not prosecute, but wants to go ahead and trespass. >> So that's as simple as that. So for today, we're going to grab your ID, get your information. >> Come back tomorrow. >> You're not you're not going to if you come back tomorrow, >> I'll come back when perfectly. Okay. >> I talk to you. >> You're not free to go. >> The woman alternates between threats and defiance, insisting she's paid and blaming staff customers. As soon as he's done with that, I'M NOT TALKING TO YOU. >> Turn to the [ __ ] to you. >> I'm talking to you. >> I DON'T WANT TO TALK TO YOU. >> YOU CAN'T GO NOWHERE. >> I CAN GO WHERE THE I WANT TO GO. >> GO AHEAD. So you're now you're now being trespassed. Hold on. >> So if you come anywhere on this plaza, you're going to go to jail. >> Store manager informs her she's trespassed from the plaza and will be arrested if she returns. Officers prepare to take statements and ID. police, you're going to jail. It doesn't matter if you come back here anywhere on this property, you're going to jail. Okay? >> My ID and this ain't this >> that's a case number. You can do what you want with it. You can do what you want. >> Have a wonderful day. >> I don't need >> Yeah. Come back and watch WHERE YOU END UP. >> BYE. Have a good day. Byebye. >> Two seconds. Bye. I'll get a statement from you and then uh she'll be trespassed. Okay. >> Okay. >> If she comes back anywhere here, she's going to go to jail. Okay. >> Bye-bye. >> So, I'm going to start driving and she locked her up, man. She served a piece in the store and everything, man. She need to be locked up. >> Trust me, she gives that tried to steal overund something dollars worth of merchandise, man. >> Got in the guy's face and everything. She's still going on. You guys going to allow that? >> Give me Give me a second. Give me a second. >> If I was to do that, I've been locked up. >> Listen, there's a first amendment right, freedom of speech. Okay. I think she's going to go to jail. She's still on the property. choosing to leave. Still here on the property. >> Let's go. Come on. Come on. We told you to leave. YOU STILL >> I'M GOING TO GO. >> NO, YOU'RE STILL HERE. COME PLAY. >> NO, I'M GOING TO GO. WE WENT ON MY SISTER. I'm going to go. Let's go. to go out of the car. >> My sister went in the car. >> Officers escalate. Tell her to get out of the car repeatedly. Order her to leave or be removed. She resists, prompting warnings about resisting charges. >> Pull you out of this car. Out of the car or I'm going to pull you out of the car. Let's go. Get out of the car. >> Get out of the car. >> I'm going to go way past that. Come on. Get out of the car. Come on. >> Get out of the car. Let's go. >> We're way past that. Let's go. >> No, we f to go. Hold on, Chantel. >> Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. >> No. Hold on. Let's go. >> No. I need my phone. >> NO. >> OKAY. Now you're going to get a charge for resisting cuz you keep resisting and you're done. >> No. Let me get my wallet. >> Get my Yo, you going to break. You don't broke my nails. >> I don't care about your nails >> or any of that. We told you to leave and you continue to be. >> I'M GOING TO GO. MY SISTER IS COMING. MY SISTER WANTED TO STOP. >> We are done that. >> I'M GOING TO GO. >> LET'S GO. LET'S GO. WE ARE PAST THAT. We told you to leave. I'm still on the property yelling and screaming. >> I'M GOING TO GO >> causing a big scene. Nope. >> For no reason. Open up. >> My sister. >> No, she we're we're done. Sorry. Get down. >> Get my wallet. Get my purse. >> Let's go. Have a seat. >> Have a seat, PLEASE. >> I'M GOING TO GO. >> Have a seat. Have a seat or I'll sit you down. Have a seat. Have a seat cuz we're done playing games. Let's go. SIT DOWN. >> I'M GOING TO GO. >> SIT DOWN OR >> I'M GOING TO GO. >> Sit down. SIT DOWN. >> AND DON'T MIND MOVE. >> NO. Sit down. Stay in there. >> I hate no dick. >> Let's go. Sit down. Thank you. We're past that. It's up. You want to keep her stuff or no? >> Yeah. >> Okay. We're past that because she still refused to leave. We told her, "Walk and leave. Get in the car and leave." And you're sitting out here causing a disturbance. I'm done playing games with her. Okay, so she's going to be arrested for trespassing from Wind Dixie. Okay, have a good day. >> Angelica was charged with trespassing and obstructing an officer found guilty by a court on August 1st, 200123 as transcribed ordered to pay court fees and put on probation. Respect store policies and comply with police instructions to avoid escalation. Refusing to cooperate can quickly turn a minor incident into criminal charges. But this is still not the worst case. Just wait until you see this next one. >> Go ahead and take a seat back here. >> Okay. >> Yep. >> On January 7th, 2024, police officers made contact with a female suspect who had an active warrant issued out of Hardy County, Florida. Hi. >> Good. How are you? >> Good. >> All right. >> There you go. >> It's a warn from county. I already verified it with dispatch, but I know you got call today and stuff. >> Yeah. They'll just have me confirm it and we won't get >> You want me to drink bottle water or something? >> No. Just have one. >> And I said I could keep this paper with me. Is that okay? >> It's just some phone number. >> Just numbers I have on it. >> Yeah. Yeah. What I'll do is I'll put it with your license here and >> that way I have them whenever I >> Yeah. When you get in there, they'll let you have it to make phone calls and such. >> Okay, great. Thank you for that. >> Five link channel 265 Florida deal number. >> So, okay. We done it with these clothes on. >> Yeah. >> Oh, okay. >> Yeah. Like a haircut before they shot. You could see my eye looks. >> I know. I saw it. >> Especially the one. >> Yes. And I still see black spots and stuff. I thought it was >> The officer conversed politely with the woman, reassuring her and discussing minor personal topics such as keeping her phone numbers and healing a wound she had. >> Did you have to get any stitches or anything? >> No, I'm surprised. They said I should have, but >> I don't see >> Well, that's I know >> your skin feel pretty good. >> Well, that's because there's there's this antibacterial spray. >> 104. Thank you. Have one female 1015. Um, I can't think of at the moment, but it it literally will help wounds. Um, >> it's like an antibacterial spray. It's um red and white. >> Jeez, I can't think of that. I think it's D. You can find it anywhere, but it heals. >> Yes. And it's spray and it cleans wounds and it puts a sealant on it and you just you can spray it as much as you want and it really helps heal wounds >> like you wouldn't believe. And I think that's another reason why. >> Yeah. >> All right. So the warrant is confirmed. Um >> what's a good phone number for you? >> Um uh actually cuz my my phone broke. So >> the woman explained her phone was broken so she had written her contacts on paper. She mentioned being self-employed at the moment. >> Your brother? >> Uh, yeah. Um, what is it? I sorry, I wrote them all down. >> The screen went out on my phone a few days ago. >> So, it it I know. So, I've been home. Uh, 32. >> That's my brother's phone number. So, you can always call for sure. >> And do you work currently? Do you have an occupation? >> Uh, uh, well, uh, >> self-employed. >> Yeah. >> Okay. right now. Yeah. Till I find something. >> And what state were you born in? >> Um believe it was North Carolina. I saw my birth certificate. >> Okay. >> The officer informed her she'd be handcuffed and transported across the street, explaining the process clearly and courteously. >> All right. Everybody's told to take your off property on her except your driver license and that's okay. >> Okay. >> All I have to say. >> So, he's going to handcuff you, put you in the bank, literally just drive you across the street. >> Okay. >> Right behind you. >> Thank you so much. >> So, I just have you um pull your sleeves back. That'll make it easier. And then just put the hands on your back like it'll be the shortest drive you probably ever taken. So, >> okay. Palms palms together. Put your arms to me as much as you can like off your back. >> Oh, sorry. Sorry. >> I have a back so much. >> How you like that? >> Uh, it's okay. >> You see better? Uh, honestly, I prefer clock. >> Oh, man. That's what I said. There's nothing wrong with the oval locks in the first place. >> Right. And we'll just go to the passenger side. >> Left side. Got >> the right side. >> You're good. >> You don't have anything in your jacket pockets anywhere. After confirming she had no items in her jacket, the woman was placed in the patrol vehicle without resistance. >> Oh, you can look. >> You're good. Go ahead and take a seat back here. >> Okay. >> Yep. channel. >> What is it? >> You said I won't have to change. >> Um, are you paying your bond? >> Yes. >> Oh, okay. Yeah, you shouldn't have to. >> Yeah. So, I'm going to Gotcha. >> Dispatch has been updated. >> 12:05 all female 1015 CJ. Officers communicated with dispatch confirming she was in custody 10 to 15 and in transport to the county jail. >> I'm not too bad. Almost halfway done. >> Are you? Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Like once I live there. >> No, it's pretty close. >> Yeah, cuz I ride down the leaves. Oh, >> okay. How can I help you? >> Sheriff's office. One adult female 10:15. Dispatch has been locked in. >> She was charged with grand theft of a controlled substance, a felony offense. Stealing controlled substances is a serious felony that carries severe legal consequences. Integrity and honesty are essential, especially in trusted professions like healthcare. What an unyielding shoplifter. The next shoplifter will react much more violently, so keep an eye out. >> I'm 42 years old. >> Okay. Well, I mean, you know, there's two different ways you can look at it, right? It's somebody's bike. You can't just take >> Officers question a man, Christian Figgins. He says he's homeless, just got out of jail, and claims he found the bike in an alley behind Jimmy John's. >> Okay. What's your middle initial? >> And then what's your deal? Okay. He knows a little bit more about it. Do you want to talk to him? >> Yeah. Christian. Hey, man. I'm Officer Hooper. How you doing, dude? >> How's it going? It's okay. It's all right. >> You'll be okay. >> What's going on? >> You're going to be all right. >> You didn't run. That's good. You turned around right when I asked you to. Okay, you're going to be okay. >> What's going on? >> Christian Biggins, born in DC. >> I'm homeless. >> Okay. I came up from the joint last night. >> Okay. >> I found the bike. I didn't steal it. >> Okay. Where'd you find the route? >> Where's the >> alley? >> In the alley. Where? >> Like directly behind Jimmy John's or kind of down a little bit? >> That whole alley right there. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Steel bike. >> I'm 42 years old. >> Okay. Well, I mean, you know, there's two different ways you can look at it, right? It's somebody's bike. You can't just take somebody's bike no matter where it is, right? >> She got it back. >> That'd be theft of mislaid property. Best case scenario, right? I mean, let's just have an honest conversation, right? Like, you knew the bike wasn't yours, right? And you took it from the alley by Jimmy John's, right? And I don't know. I don't really >> Officers express skepticism. timeline and location make the found in the alley story doubtful given he'd been at a nearby high-rise with the woman the night before. >> Believe you. That's where you found it. >> I'm not going to lie about it. >> I mean, you gave it back. That's important. Did you give it back only cuz she caught you? >> No. She called it my bike. I said, "Okay." >> I didn't know. >> Okay. >> What's your bike? >> What time did you get out of jail yesterday? >> 7:00 >> at night. >> Morning. Oh, in the morning and then just kind of been walking around all day. >> I didn't get down the county area until like 8:00 at night. >> Oh, are you from here? >> Oh, I know you said Poria, but like you're from here. That's why you're back in Ottawa. Okay. Okay. Where'd you stay last night? Where'd you sleep? >> A friend or something, maybe? >> No. >> Just all around. >> Well, there's a lot of drugs going around. Don't get involved in that again, you know. Well, even when you're here homeless, make sure you register that duty. Something, you know, trips you up or something. You don't want to be in trouble for something that's not that big of a deal. Okay. >> I want to press charges so you're back in prison. I'm not going to >> How does she know that you're from prison? >> I talked to her last night for a little bit. >> There we go. Okay. And then what? >> That was it. >> Where did you see her at last night? >> Over at the highrise. I'm going over to see my friend Jennifer Underh Hill. But she said she has a boyfriend. She's busy. I said, "Okay." >> And randomly took a person's bike. You clearly had some sort of connection with this lady and she's going to try and tell the police. I don't know. I don't know. Yeah, you do know a little more, right? Not you, her. So, you need to just be forward with everything. That way it helps you out. So, you you're talking to her last night at the high-rise. What happens? Did you smoke dope? >> Officers warn about body cam, video evidence, and consequences. Municipal citation versus state charge parole registration risks and the danger of lying >> together or something and she told you you can get the bike. No. Did you ask her, can I use your bike for a little bit? >> No. Did you know it was her bike? >> No. Okay. >> I didn't know nothing until now. >> Okay. >> Come on, man. Come on. >> I didn't know the bike was hers till now. >> There's no way. You just randomly met up with this stranger at the high-rise. Okay. And then you magically have her bike today. I thought we were having an honest conversation. I mean, we're getting there. >> Oh my god. >> Come on. >> What? It's just like blind luck that you ended up with a bike in some alley over by Jimmy John's cuz you can see Jimmy John's after you're hanging out where she reported her bike missing from. >> Dude, if it's drugs and [ __ ] I don't care about that right now. We're trying to help you not get in trouble for stealing a chick's bike that she probably let you borrow. Did she tell you you could borrow it? >> No. >> No. Did you know it was hers? >> No. >> Well, >> so where did you really get it then from? >> I told you. >> I'm asking where did you really get it from? >> I found it in the alley over there. >> It wasn't parked next to the highrise cuz that highrise doesn't I want to be able to right be free, live comfortable, walk the streets, do whatever you want to do without getting in trouble. Don't look like a liar on our body cameras when we go pull the video. That's going to look super shitty for you and the courts don't like that. They will. >> The officer outlines three possible outcomes. Nothing municipal ticket or state citation, stressing that dishonesty could lead to more severe charges and parole complications. >> End up charging you and doing whatever they can. >> Cuz cuz right now we we got three different options, right? One is nothing happens. We figure it out and everyone's on the way. There's a story we don't know about, right? >> Two, it's handcuffs and a state citation, right? or three, it's somewhere between and we don't understand quite yet and we decide it's a municipal code citation and that's just a ticket and you're on your way. >> There's three there's three there's three different options here and I don't know how it's going to play but I need more from you then I found the bike in the alley. Like legit, am I going to see that if I don't take control? Cuz if it's just some simple honest mistake, whatever. She was like, "Yeah, take it." This and the other. It's something where, okay, we all walk away. Enough is enough. For me, maybe it could be just through the ordinance. I say go on your record. Nothing. It's a little tiny baby piece of paper. No big deal. A state charge is different than a city. state charge, yes, goes to the courts, goes to the judge, it looks bad for your prior parole, for your sex offender registration, whatever all that is. So, that's why don't look like a liar on my body camera when I go pull that video. You know what I mean? What's the video going to show when I go and pull it? No, you don't. You don't want to go to jail >> in jail. You don't go to jail for this anyways. >> Either either one of those three things. Are you Are you on pre-trial release or anything? So he wouldn't be going to jail anyways no matter what happens. >> Conversation continues about where they spoke, who the woman is, and Figgins's homelessness and prior charges. Officers advise registration and compliance where relevant. >> This girl is adamant about pressing charges and getting in trouble. It's something that he can work with you and just try and give you a city or again. That's the thing. But we need to know more. We need to know what we're going to see on the cameras before we go do all that and then turn around and say, "Oh, he totally lied to us." And you're on the body camera line. You know, obstructing is also if you lied to prevent an arrest, that's another charge. That's worse than just picking up a bike and getting a city ordinance. You know what I mean? Don't do that to yourself. Stay out here so you can walk around. I know it's shitty to be homeless, but it's better than being in the pen, right? Yeah. You were there and that's long enough. So tell me what the cameras are going to see before I waste any of my time. It's hot. You're sweating. I'm sweating. We all want to go our ways. >> I grabbed advice so I can get around. >> Okay. From the high-rise, right? Yeah. And did you know it was hers or No, you didn't know who it was. Okay. What were you and her doing hanging out? >> All I did was talk to her. >> Okay. >> She spun out talking about how she trust God. Okay. >> Where were you guys talking at? from the highrise. >> I know like where like in a room outside lobby. >> The high-rise outside. >> Okay. Okay. >> Like in the parking lot one or the back one? Like by the dumpster? >> The front. >> The front one. Okay. >> Okay. >> See, that's better than you looking like you're just some random stranger that didn't even know her that found the bike like you said down a back alley. That's worse, right? And now it looks better for you being honest than matching what the cameras say. Cuz we know what the cameras say and now you're being honest and it makes us feel better like we're having a better conversation. >> Where's she at? >> Well, she on foot chasing you right now. >> No, she's just walk over there. >> Nope. >> You get air conditioning for a little bit? >> No, cuz then they're trying to make me register and I ain't >> What's up? >> No, you don't have to. >> You do not have to register. Officers conduct a quick pat s search and then place Figgins under arrest for theft. They explain procedure and say he'll likely be released after processing. >> If you don't want to you still have your two days. >> Yeah. As long as you're in complian. That's that's up to you, man. That's that's your deal. >> Which sounds like he is. They would have said he wasn't. >> Yeah. >> All good. >> So, you're good. Nobody's going to force you to do that. >> Were your charges out of Poria County? >> One for Las County. >> One for Las County. Oh, that one. Was that the delivery one? >> Yeah. >> All right. Just go and leave that out of your pocket for now. Go and stand up for me. Okay. Listen, you've been real cool. Do these hurt behind your back cuz you're so big. Let's go in front. You keep building chill here. Just turn around facing me. Okay. Is there anything on you you're not supposed to have? >> No. >> No. Nothing. Poke me, stick me, anything like that. All right. Right now, you're under arrest for theft. This is all that comes of it. You ride with me right down the street. fingerprints photograph and we can kick you loose. Sound good? Believe it or not, future travel lease or anything anything else like that pops up. Okay. And then one more time. Nothing in your pockets, right? Because of >> my need for keeping them cool. Keep those up there. You're good. >> Officers escort him to processing, reassure him about getting his belongings back, offer phone calls and bathroom access, and manage custody procedures. >> Nothing here in your clothes that we need to know about. Nothing wrapped in your sweatpants or anything. >> All right, we'll get all your stuff. And like I said, man, nothing else comes of it. This going to take 25 minutes and and you're and you're good. >> You're getting Yeah. We're just going to keep this. >> Let's go see. I'll grab your stuff. What's up? >> That's $25. >> No, no, you're good. We're not throwing that away. All right. >> I appreciate the respect. And you're going to get it right back. Okay. Hang on. You guys can make more money. me. >> Nah. >> So, here's his sink and stuff for the front there. >> All right, we're going to walk in this little garage door. up there where the weapons. Keep going. Keep going. Keep going. Stand next to that table. You make any phone calls right now, man? Face me, dude. Perfect. You going to phone calls? >> What's up? >> I thought I'm just getting let go. >> You remember fingerprints, photographs? I got to offer you phone calls, all that fun stuff. Bathroom. >> Christian Figgins was charged with theft for taking the elderly woman's bike. They formally arrested him for theft and plan to process him with fingerprints and photographs before likely releasing him. Always be honest with law enforcement. Lying can turn a minor mistake into serious legal trouble. Even found property can be considered theft if it belongs to someone else. Comment your opinion about the case in the comment section. Let's find out the next incident. >> HEY. On March 8th, 2025, two bold boys tried the grab everything and walk out method. Shockingly, it doesn't work. Police arrive but are met with some vague details from store staff who seem just as confused. >> What's going on, guys? >> I don't know where these people are at. They didn't steal yet, right? >> So, I need whoever called us, I need to talk to them so that we can get more of the story here. Right now we're getting bits and pieces and we have no idea what's going on. So if Tammy knows exactly where they're at, we can talk to them. If not, uh, apparently they're in the back of the store. He met another subject here. They both decided to load carts full of merchandise and then just walk out. Right. >> You got his ID. No, he said you don't have an ID. >> How about name, date of birth? >> Yep. I got his name. >> Name, date of birth, phone number, and address. Name, date of birth, phone number, address. >> Phone number. >> What's your address? >> I got it right here. 75 Harlem. >> What? You want to take a look at him? >> This is the picture the the name the guy gave. >> Yes, that's what Brandon's saying. The dispatcher was saying that the name that he gave he ran. He got this picture back. So, if you want to go look at him, I don't think it's him. >> Those guys didn't take it with you. >> No, they loaded uh two carts full and then he's starting to walk away from the cart and then um he's right here. I don't think that's him. Oh, it's the exit, sir. So, he says that uh he doesn't know his phone number, the info. >> He gave me his name, date of birth, and address. He says he lives at 75 Harlem. The guy who dropped him off is Juan Rodriguez, who also lives at him, lives with him. He says the the black gentleman that was in here before, uh he doesn't know him, that he just met him in here. He was going to pay for all those stuff. The suspect says he was planning to pay using Zel, but now feels offended and wants to leave. Police inform him he's trespassed and may be connected to similar incidents at other stores. Zel, >> but now he's offended and he wants to leave and he's not going to he's not going to buy the items anymore. He's just going to leave. >> We explain to him that he's trespassing. >> Yeah, we explain that they've been reported by other stores and I don't think that's him, right? you know, he says that he wasn't there. He's saying that he was just going to buy it with zel and he's offended. He doesn't want to leave anymore. Yeah. He's saying he's a hard worker. Okay. So, >> we still can't find him. Yeah. >> What did he say his name was? >> Hey. Hey. Hey. >> 70. He's running. >> We're running towards the street towards Panera. >> Suddenly, the detained suspect makes a run for it. Officers chase him toward the Panera parking lot and successfully detain him after a short foot pursuit. Hispanic, all dark clothing, white and black vest, dark shoes. He's running across walken. >> Hey, southbound parking lot. Back up. Hurry. Hurry. Hurry. GROUND. GROUND. GROUND. >> RELAX. RELAX. RELAX. >> RELAX. RELAX. Knee off the side. shoulder. I got him. Brower caught him right here cuz we pulled up. He had him double handcuffed already. >> Officers recap the chase. One officer caught and tackled Maurice near the gas station after he ditched the stolen merchandise. I think he was trying. He He was on the radio, but he wasn't comfort either. But there he is right here. I have I didn't have dispatch make another call for service cuz I keyed up. Did you hear me when I was like >> I had him in custody. I hopped out the car and as soon as they said he was walking out with the green bag, he >> video too. >> He walked out. No, I What's that? >> He got out. I was like, "Yo, Maurice, knock it off." And he like dipped behind the pillar. And then >> the officer notes the suspect tried to hide behind a pillar before fleeing. They chased him down the alley. >> What did you say though? >> Transporting one adult male arrest from this location to headquarters. Starting mileage 113 160 >> Maurice is transported to headquarters. He faces charges of shoplifting, obstruction, resisting arrest, and contempt. Stealing twice in the same day only makes the crime worse and harder to deny. Anger and racist outbursts won't change the facts. Actions have consequences. But this is still not the worst case. Just wait until you see this next one. >> Why do I have to stay in jail for something like this? I didn't hurt somebody. I mean, this is crazy. I've never been in trouble in my entire life. Why do I have to spend the night in jail? >> On May 15th, 2024, an officer was dispatched to the Child Guidance and Family Solutions Center following serious allegations against an employee. An accountant at the center was accused of embezzling nearly $20,000 through a series of fraudulent transactions. Authorities launched an investigation into how the funds were misappropriated and whether additional individuals might have been involved in the scheme. >> This is Jason. >> Yes. >> Jason. >> Okay. So, you came across some uh irregularities I assume in your books. >> We did. >> Okay. So, um, last Thursday, um, I identified a, you know, regular cash transaction that didn't, um, sync up to our normal payroll. Um, and when I dug into it, and it turned out that it was a extra special payroll that went through to our payroll clerk, um, done by herself for $5,000. Um when I looked into it a little bit more um I found there were about um what do we say eight other transactions that what she had been doing over the previous >> information over here is a pays than what she was taken. So she paid herself a total of 17,000 more than what she should have. Um and then this is our fringe and tax liability portion of that. So, it cost us 1,500 bucks on top of that. So, we're looking at 195 in total. And then she has some um company owned assets at home. A total of 990 of monitors and type of stuff. >> So, she works from home >> um occasionally. >> Occasionally she would. >> Is she currently there or currently here? >> Uh she has been terminated. >> Yeah. Okay. So, she's aware this is going on, >> correct? Well, she's aware. >> She's aware. She's aware that we know. >> I don't think she knows. We're getting you guys involved. >> The employee manipulated payroll by abusing sick leave PTO and vacation time to fraudulently increase her salary. She tried to cover her tracks, but the company noticed irregularities and began collecting evidence. >> Hi, Heather. >> I'm Officer Sam police. You know what's going on today? >> I I have some idea. I didn't like this. Okay. What do you think's going on? >> It was from payroll, so not really. >> So, I'm going to read you your rights and I'll give you the option to talk to me or not talk to me, make any statements if you don't want to, then we'll send you on your way. If not, we'll discuss what's going on. Okay. >> The employer told police the suspect refused to cooperate. They had scheduled a meeting to fire her retrieve company property and discuss restitution, but she never showed. With evidence gathered, they contacted local authorities who later arrested her without incident. What's >> going on? I don't know what I'm charged with. I don't know what they're saying I did. >> Well, what do you think? I'll tell you exactly what I have, but tell me in your mind what you think's going on. >> I paid myself out hours, my vacation hours >> last year. They just and then there I did a a payroll that rehearsed and that's then then they figured everything out. And so I was supposed to meet with them yesterday at 3:30 and I didn't because I was trying to hold a job >> and I I guess I don't know if they were going to pick me up yesterday. They didn't say that they were doing any >> Well, they called me today. I worked yesterday. They did not call me yesterday. They called me today everything that's going on. So right now what we have is going to be 10 charges. All right. Um what is tampering with records? >> How did I Okay. because through the payroll computer software and it's an official document registered skills through taxes and stuff like that. So this should be that's just how it's written up. All right, that's going to be the highest level charge. This is a felony three. >> Judging by her demeanor, the suspect didn't seem to take the situation seriously at first, but once the officer read her Miranda rights and the reality set in, she began acting clueless. There >> were nine payroll charges done over since um October 6th or something, right? Um, and any of what I think this division of four or five, I can't remember which one's which, but anything over $1,000 is a felony felony five. Anything under $1,000 was um minor misdemeanor one or misdemeanor law. All right. So, I think I know there's split four and five. Can't remember which way is which. Um, I know they're all real close to a thousand except for the last one which is pretty big. Um, other than that, so they called me today, find out what's going on and talk within. This is what they chose to do. Um, so that's why we're here. So since the house of thought and here we are. >> Okay. >> If this woman thought she could walk away with nearly $20,000 in stolen funds, she was dead wrong. Skipping an official termination meeting under the excuse of job hunting didn't help her case either, especially not after committing a serious financial crime. As the officer continued reading off her charges, it became clear her problems were only just beginning. today. >> Well, is this going to happen today? >> You'll be to what's going to happen today is once we're done, um, this officer here is going to drive to the county. You'll be booked into the county. All right. And then the next day or two, today's Wednesday. Next day or two, you'll be sent in front of the judge. All right. >> I'm staying in jail for the next two days. >> The next day or two. So, you could be arraigned in the morning. >> I'm staying a night in jail. >> Tonight? Yes, you will. >> They told me when they picked ME UP THAT I WASN'T. >> That's what's going to happen. That's not good. That's not fault. >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, you're going to >> Oh my god. Oh my gosh. Please. Oh my god. Oh my god. I'm going to be Oh my god. >> The officer informed the suspect that she was being taken to the county jail for processing. It wasn't until that moment when the likelihood of spending the night behind bars sank in that the weight of her actions finally hit her. >> You know, they're also concerned about the the women you have at home. >> I have a monitor making it happen. I was coming, man. >> Hold on. You're not being charged with that. Just let you know something that they're concerned with eventually. All right. So, I even put in the report there that's something they're concerned with, but it's not listed being considered being stolen or that because you had permissions to use it from home. Okay? Just keep in mind don't break it. Don't destroy it. Don't complicate complicate things. What do you have? I would >> I was I saying you have like an office full of things of your own too there. >> Yes. >> So what I told them same thing to tell you is when you're ready when you had the opportunity to gather their belongings. Have somebody record you as you gather their belongings. Right. So that way you show it's not broken or damaged or destroyed. And then you can call one of us and we can do we can help facil fulfill property exchange there. So that way they can't say you broke anything damage anything and vice versa. >> It's shocking how clueless some people can be about the law. What kind of world was she living in if she believed that stealing $19,000 would only result in a slap on the wrist. Whether she felt guilty for what she did or just bitter about getting caught doesn't really matter. What matters is that justice is on its way and there's no dodging it now. Why do I have to stay in jail for something like this? I didn't hurt so much. I mean, this is crazy. I've never been to Toma in my entire life. Why do I have to spend the night in jail for this? I will do I will come back. I promise. >> I know, but this is like crazy. I'm sorry you feel that way. I think I've never done any anything. I don't Oh my god. All right, Heather, unless we have anything further, I'm going get you going. Okay. >> Watch your knees. >> The suspect faced four misdemeanor theft charges, five felony counts of grand theft, and one charge of tampering with records. White collar crimes carry serious consequences, even if no violence is involved. Tampering with records and theft can lead to multiple felony charges.
