Winfield. >> Well, because we always like to let the the parents, you have to let the teachers know if there was something that happened so that they're not surprised. So what? Am I going to jail? >> I don't know. Just something that you're police involved. >> Tell me if I want to do that. >> Because he didn't know that. >> He has to go talk with me. >> You ain't got nothing on you, right? >> No. >> You got no no dope, no weapons, nothing. >> I'm not on three. You can send that 46 to me. >> Hold on. Turn around. Just face the car real quick. >> There you go. >> 310 4. Officers notice her holding a spoon, which she says was for eating ice cream. They confiscate it before transport. >> I have a spoon on me cuz I'm about to eat some freaking ice cream. >> Where's the spoon at? >> I don't know if it's still on the other best right here. >> Okay, stop. Hang on. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. >> I was about to go eat. >> Why you tucking a spoon? >> Cuz I got freaking I got pockets. >> I got freaking ice cream downstairs. >> Gotcha. The woman was officially charged with retail theft and resisting arrest. The woman faces notable consequences. Retail theft can bring fines, probation, or jail depending on the value of items stolen. Resisting arrest adds extra penalties such as additional jail time or probation. Stealing may seem easy at the moment, but it always catches up with you. Resisting arrest only makes the situation worse and adds more charges. But this is still not the worst case. Just wait until you see this next one. >> Don't take it off, please. Too late for that. I can't go to jail, sir. >> Stop. >> On January 5th, 2025, Walmart staff on South Valley Drive reported a woman shoplifting. She tore off price tags, wore the items, and headed toward the exit. >> What was it? She ripped the tags off the shoes and put the sweater on. >> Yeah. These just trespass, but I don't remember her name. >> Is she with that lady? >> Yeah, she's with >> that lady. >> The old flower shirt. >> So that jacket is your >> And the shoes. Oh, and the shoes. >> Yeah. >> Where she going to head out? >> The other side. >> On the other side. She resisted slightly, pleaded with officers, and claimed she couldn't be jailed. Officers reminded her she had already been trespassed from Walmart earlier that year. >> Too late for that. >> I can't go to jail, sir. >> Stop. >> Can I get the key to my >> Stop. >> Can I get the key to my Please? >> Give me one second. >> Okay. Sorry. Why did I do that in helicopter? >> Where is she at? I couldn't on the pants right there. >> Well, too late. >> I can't go to jail. >> Should have let Should have thought of that ahead of >> time. Can I pick up the key? It's right there. >> Stop resisting. >> I'm not resisting. You guys not even listening to me, man. >> Well, it's not our fault. You shoplifted, is it? >> You know what, sir? Can you stay here and like have God's grace and try to figure out why people do certain things? Man, >> no shop. >> Huh? >> No. >> What? >> Can you pick up my DS key, please? >> Where is it? It's >> right there. Are you standing on my Can we let >> She going inside? >> Yeah, she's still inside. Let her know. >> Huh? >> Let her know. >> I need to wait for her, though, cuz she has >> You're an adult, >> huh? >> What do you need to wait for her for? >> Cuz she has that king. You don't know who she is? >> Yeah, we saw her. She's wearing the flower jacket. You went to go give her that car. You took off those shoes. >> We've been seeing in the camera and she wanted to, but I told her no cuz I will I don't want to be like a burden to her, man. >> Well, I would think being a burden is better than getting in trouble stealing. >> I don't understand. I just had >> Do you have anything in your pock stick me hurt me? >> Uh, I was grabbing out my my my my thing for you. I'll get it. But do you have any? >> Okay. >> I'm going to use the blade of my hand on the back of my hand as best as I can. Okay. Yeah. >> Nothing in your waistband or anything? >> No. There's um I was putting in the outfit and there's a there's a couple there's a flash. >> You have foil lighter and plastic strawberry. You don't need drugs. >> No, you can check this. I don't need drugs at all. So I have to pick you up. I pick up the parts all the time for the kids. You can go ask anybody picking up the needles and everything. Right there is from what happened earlier. So you can see >> during a search officers found items like a foil lighter and plastic straw. She denied drug use, explaining she often picks up discarded needles. >> Not lying, but yes, my husband tried to kill you. Horrible day. Trust me, this will not be a damn business. >> We'll take the jacket off of here. >> Yeah. Let's see right here. >> Where's the other lady at? >> She's paid. >> What's your first name? And us today my husband tried to kill me and he tried to hang me and I'm sorry man. >> Look, as long as you have no words, you're probably just going to get a crib site. >> She revealed she was homeless, battling cancer, and had been assaulted by her boyfriend earlier that day, showing red marks on her neck. >> To make the house, she's already been today. >> Yeah. >> Yeah, cuz they took a picture of her. They took a picture, but they never cighted me like anything for just they never gave me anything. >> Well, the first time you don't first time you don't get sighted. >> Well, I I've never been I've never had like a card or anything from from >> Yeah, we just advise people that they're trespassed. >> Oh, I thought cuz no one told me I was trespassed, but I thought >> Well, if if you're trespass on there, somebody had to have told you. >> No, sir. Like that's on my kids. No one I know I was trespass on the Walmart on. Well, to tell you again, you are trespassed from the Walmart. So, don't go to any of the Walmarts. This one or the one. >> The woman claimed she was unaware of being trespassed, but was reinformed that she is banned from all Walmart locations. >> I thought it was Sorry. >> Okay. So, none of the Walmarts even nationwide. >> Okay. >> So, you're going to have to find somewhere else to shop. >> That's fine. >> You're an Heliccastia. >> She's under arrest. to do. >> She was wearing the shoes and the hood. >> Oh my. >> Yeah. So, >> kick her ass. >> I'll try, but I can't. >> You know what? Um, can I tell you something? >> Yeah. >> Her boyfriend just beat her ass into Yeah, that's what she just told us. >> Yeah. And I think that's the reason why I need this. >> We'll take it off in a sec. Did you have the date for that? >> Well, they're looking for it cuz it was >> that one was going to be sometime last year. >> Yeah, it was last year on January. >> Do you know your aunt's number? >> No, sir. I don't I had a phone, but my my husband broke this morning, which I didn't know. You know what he did? He smashed my phone. So, I don't I don't Was she already leaving? >> Huh? Yeah, she's leaving. What do you mean? >> I was going to see if she could stay cuz I don't have a warning. I don't want to disclose any information. She know what happened earlier today. I mean, if you guys want to take a picture, but sorry. >> You want to talk about it? >> She wants you. No, I don't. I have. >> Does your voice usually sound like this? >> My voice? >> Yeah. No, it always sounded like that to me because when you put the thing around my neck, I guess like right here's been hurting me. So, >> well, be honest in hand. I mean, it's pretty serious crime, >> right? And I know >> I'm aware. I just I'm already out of that situation. >> I know, but >> So, >> something bad happened, right? And we still need to do our part and help you out as well. I understand that part, but it sounds pretty stupid. But I'm about say I believe in God wholeheartedly. >> And you do need you do need to go to the hospital though. Okay. Cuz your your voice is pretty bad. I don't have no insurance. >> Open my eyes. >> Open your eyes. What? >> Take it. >> No, but it was pretty bad. Sorry. >> But you don't want to disclose information then? >> No. I don't I I already had called um cuz he was like a vet a veteran. So there was this American um hotline number for like uh domestics and stuff and I got a hold of him earlier. >> Officers encouraged her to report domestic violence, noting her injuries and offering victim assistance resources, though she hesitated to provide details. >> She's been in domestic with her baby dad. If you change your mind, just talk to us. We're here to help you out. You could even go talk to your victim's assistance. They're civilians, regular people. They're not cops, you know. They're not pigs like us. you go down the station, they'll help you out. So, please don't go back, right? There's many guys out there. I get it. I mean, if he's a provider or not or, you know, you rely on him. There's more guys out there. It's going to suck, but you need to be that cuz you're going to get all right. So, yeah, we're here to help you out, okay? Is it cool if I get pictures of your injuries? It's back. >> Yes, sir. >> Uh, see your face. Did he hit you in the face? >> Well, I had hit me right. Had blood come out of my ear, but I took out all the blood and stuff. >> Just stay like that. There you go. All right, cool. Go back to bed cuz it's cold. >> I empty. I will. >> Do you want to talk about it now or >> um Can I go to the like the office tomorrow? >> Yeah, you can go tomorrow. Okay. Yeah. >> Did you want to talk to us or somebody else? >> I'll probably It doesn't matter. >> Yeah, I probably want to talk to either one of you guys. >> Either of us? >> Yeah. Let me tell you. Then I help you. >> You don't need that. >> Trust me. I know. They were to >> Yeah. You don't need 21 years torture. Look, look at what I look Look at the way I am now. You don't need that. You're better than that. Look at Look at how he left you. You think he cares about you? He don't care. If he don't care about you, he ain't going to care about the kids. You're going to You can stay with me and the kids. Okay, you need to speak up. Look at what he did. It's unfair. >> Believe they just got >> officers urged her not to return to her abusive partner, emphasizing her safety and encouraging her to seek help. >> Even if even if the issues that you guys had before, >> let that God's going to handle it. >> Yes, ma'am. >> But you need to speak up, mama. And that that's enough. cuz I'm telling you because I love you and I see you in me and I I don't want you you don't want that cuz I went through 21 years of that with your teeth and everything. Okay. >> Uh this is what you got for the you're being charged with the shoplifting. >> Okay. And they'll arrange the court date. >> Okay. >> Okay. By signing it, you're not admitting guilt, but you're promising to appear in court. >> Okay. >> Okay. Do you have any questions? >> No. Sorry. I just want to say sorry how I came across too. I just >> Well, I apologize to you. Okay. Like I said, I just have a lot of people lie to me every day. >> Yeah. Understand? Especially when they start to tense up right away. >> Mhm. >> It makes me less >> Yeah, I understand. >> less cooperative. >> Understandable. >> Oh, I am sorry for that. Okay. >> No, you're fine. It's understandable. >> Okay. Just show up to court. I'm willing to work with you. >> Thank you. >> I'm willing to give you a different sentence. Okay. But you just got to show up. >> Yeah. I'll be there. I'll be there probably tomorrow with this. >> Okay. I'm not sure when the court day will be, but probably a month from now. >> Okay. >> I'm sorry, too. All right. Shake your hands. Okay. Thank you. You have a beautiful night. Okay. You too. All right. She was formally charged with shoplifting, signed a citation promising to appear in court, and was released at the scene. I don't know. >> Take this footage from April 2023, for example. Captured by a Florida police officer, it shows three carefree young women enjoying themselves, completely unaware that their fun is about to take a very unexpected turn. >> How much did they >> How much? Can you tell me? >> My own. I'm going to be honest with you. I don't even know where the number is. >> 31? >> Yeah. >> 31? >> Are you $31? >> Can I see what it's worth for $31? >> I know. I haven't made it. >> Yeah. >> 31 for what? >> Exactly. These women showed up at Walmart dressed to impress with stylish outfits, designer shoes, and pricey purses. But instead of shopping like their appearance suggested, they ended up stealing items worth only $31. >> What a good vacation to start off. >> I did a slow moment, right? >> I took your numbers in the car. After going through their belongings, officers uncovered something that would land the girls in even deeper trouble. That was the moment reality hit. They realized the situation was serious and that a trip to jail was no longer just a possibility, but almost certain. >> Take my take my stuff. >> I can't for what? >> You can't take this with you to the jail. >> This is what I want. You can't take this with you to the jail. >> What? Wait, jail? >> Yeah. >> Who the is going to jail? >> Y'all. >> Who the what? >> Hold on. Are you serious? >> Hell. >> Are you dead ass? >> Get off. Get up. >> Wait. Where are you? >> Stand up. Turn around. >> Why you wait? Why me? >> They're locking us up. They're locking us up. It's your mom. >> Yeah. I'm getting arrested in Walmart. So, um I'm getting arrested in Walmart. >> I don't know. I don't know. Hold on. Come outside. >> Cuz some stuff wasn't scanned at Walmart, bro. A dollar. >> I like it. I could have just take the money off my card. >> Oh my god. >> We're coming outside. They really are the definition of stressed, depressed, but well-dressed. If you're headed to the slammer, I guess the least you can do is make sure you look good on the way there. >> So, I do have a question. Since we aren't from here, like my mom, I would be able to call her, but she probably wouldn't be able to get money over here. So, the person that's with us that's not in the store would be able to get their number. >> Yeah. When you get to jail, you'll be able to get numbers out. >> Yeah. >> But you know his first and last name, that's how we get it. Like first and last name type thing. Oh, we go to our phone. Okay. Okay. Okay. >> I'm like, "Yeah, I have like >> They even managed to turn the walk toward the police car, handcuffs and all, into their own kind of fashion show, strutting like it was just another runway moment. >> This is crazy. I wish I could get this crazy house. Bro, >> this is my first time going. Oh my god. >> Is that him? >> All right. Y'all going to get in this car right here. >> Can I get in the front? >> Where you going? You got to get in this house. >> I'm going. >> How you going to open the door? >> I'mma open it. Walk. >> You got it. Okay. Oh, it's freezing. Get my blanket. Get my blanket. >> I can't. You got to get in. Come on. >> This freaking thing is cold. I can't close the door, sir. >> It's dirt. >> I'll have them clean when we get there. >> Wait, I got white on. That's my problem. >> You still got to get in. It's not going to stick. >> It is going to stick. >> You'll be all right. >> Once the girls were in custody, they cooperated with officers. Because of that, they likely avoided extra trouble and only had to face the theft charges. Think twice before stealing. Looking stylish won't save you from the consequences. Cooperation may lessen the damage, but the charges still follow you. What an unyielding shoplifter. The next shoplifter will react much more violently, so keep an eye out. >> Passport to the right. >> Yeah. Who are these? >> I'm not sure, sir. >> Well, they were in your purse. On July 28th, 2024, officers were dispatched to Walmart in response to an active shoplifting incident. She thought she was being clever, but Walmart's cameras caught everything, stealing thousands while under surveillance. That plan was doomed from the start. >> She's doing a second return. Okay. Okay. He's trying to scan her her digital receipt. >> Yeah, just for the record, we have PC already for return fraud. >> Oh, he's struggled busy. It's not scanning for whatever reason. >> Where's your off guy? Is he going to help you? >> I still have not been able to locate him. He might actually be on lunch. >> We only had one today. I cannot find him anywhere. She's doing a second return for Sean. Actually, she might be doing a third return. >> Wow. Sounds like she needs to go to jail. >> Yeah. She's I I'm just I don't even want to know how many times she's gotten away on us. >> Tell your uh yellow vest, don't stop her. Just wave her on. >> Keep going. Keep going. >> Yeah. I swear to God if she goes into the subway, I'm going to have a freaking stroke. No, we got the crime anyway already. So, we'll just contact her in Safeway. >> All right. So, he's giving her more cash now. >> Can't exactly tell how much cash he's pulling out. He's not making it easy for me to count. >> That's okay. >> All right. But he did give her a receipt. So, we'll just use that receipt. She put that money in her right pocket. No, she pulled it back out. >> It's going to be gone by the time we get there anyway. >> All right. She's moving away from the customer service that she did not try to return. She walked into Walmart like a pro fake receipt in hand, ready to score cash for items she never paid for. But plot twist, lost prevention, already knew her face from a past stunt. >> Speaker. >> Okay, so she's going to walk out with it then. >> Yeah, she looks like she's coming to the GM or the pharmacy site. I lied. She turned around. >> Okay. >> What the [ __ ] Yep. She's going towards grocery now. >> Grocery. Okay. >> All right. She's in front of the nail salon. Okay. >> She's in front of Subway. Yeah, she's coming out. She's wearing a black shirt with like a Playboy bunny on her back. >> She out the store. >> She's about to cross the final point of >> Then she pushes her luck, literally trying to stroll out with the speaker like it's a checkout free world. Security's watching like it's Black Friday drama. >> I'll be here in a second. >> There she is. >> Hi. Where was security? >> So, you just did some. >> As soon as she hits the exit, boom, security swoops in. You're under arrest. She pulls the classic line, "I paid for it." But guess what? Cameras never lie. Wow. Put your hands behind on your back. >> Do you have any weapons on you? >> No. >> Okay. You're under arrest for theft. I've been watching you for about a good 20 minutes already. >> I just paid for that, though. I just went to the restaurant. >> Tried doing it yesterday, too. >> Everything about >> I didn't do anything yesterday. >> You got away. You're right. >> You're under arrest for theft. The speaker is not paid for. We know that already. This receipt shopping. You didn't select You selected these things from the store. >> I just paid for I just paid for this. I got the receipt right there. Remember everything's on camera. >> No, I get it. That's fine. But >> you lie to us. >> It's a good straight kick to jail. >> Look at the receipts, please. What I was saying. >> Yeah, the receipts are all fraudulent. We know already. You're not the first person that bought this up. Okay. So, anyway, you have the right to remain silent. Do you understand your rights? >> Okay. So, we're going to escort you back to the loss prevention office. Dave, just throw her in my car. I'm just going to drive her over there. >> Okay. First off, we have to identify you. Time for part two, identity fraud. She suddenly becomes someone else, but her story has more holes than Swiss cheese. >> Comes back to a talis and peak who's a male that's 611 175. >> Why would your brother come up as you? >> That's not my name though. I don't know why. >> I don't know either. >> There's driver status right there. >> Well, you better start thinking about different name cuz this one ain't working. You just said that that was your brother. >> No, I'm saying I don't. But if that's not me right there, >> you know, you got to keep your lies straight cuz I listen really well. >> Okay. What I'm trying to say is that his driver's status. >> I don't give a rat's ass about the driver status. I want to know who you are. I'm going to run it one more time. And if not, you you're just going to go to jail for providing false information to law enforcement. Regardless if you have a warrant, nothing. I'll just book you. That's that's the simplest way for me. It's Sunday. Last name again. What is your real name? I'm going to run it again. If it comes back, no record. We're not even going to go in the office. You're going to go straight to jail. I'm listening. >> I don't understand why. >> I don't either, but it usually means that people are lying about their name. >> No, but above it is my driver status. >> I don't give a [ __ ] about the driver's status. She just pulled the same scam yesterday. Her defense. It wasn't even big stuff. Uh-huh. Just nearly 1,000 worth of not big stuff. >> They spotted you right away because they recognized you from yesterday. They know that the things you returned >> you selected from the store. You didn't pay for them. You didn't come in with them. >> A couple of them I didn't. >> There's a couple things you came in with. The speaker you selected and have to be removed from a glass case by an associate, right? >> Yes. >> You never paid for that. Fortunately, you didn't try to return that for cash, but you did do two p previous ones for cash, and those are being scrutinized right now. >> It's just been a little hard for me. I mean, it's not like I was doing major stuff, but I mean, I know. >> What do you mean major stuff? Yesterday was almost $1,000. >> I got really scared. What? >> Yeah. >> For my card not working? >> Yeah. >> Okay, back to the store. We'll figure something out. >> Is she 100% the one that tried to get out yesterday? She said she tried to use her card, but everything she said >> tried to take the card out of merchandise, but there was three managers that prevented her from doing it. >> No, they didn't stop me or anything. They were just standing around me. >> And that's when you decided that, oh, I'm not going to risk it getting caught because you were right there at the point of sale. Final point of sale to take it out, >> right? My card declined. >> But you still took the cart all the way to the final point of sale. >> Yeah. Who does that? >> But you have to to bring it up. >> But your card got declined. How you going to pay for it? >> You leave your cart. >> Okay. You're going to be booked into jail cuz that's the only reasonable way we can identify you cuz you got so many IDs. You can't find your driver's license. >> Do you want me to do the theft and the refund fraud like twice? >> You can do it all in one. >> Okay. >> So, I don't know. >> I've never been arrested before. >> Oh, come on. It's not going to make me feel any less about you, guys. But please give me a chance. >> My job is to make sure you are held accountable. I'm doing my job. >> I don't hold myself accountable for it, sir. I really trust you to hold yourself accountable. >> Did you hold yourself accountable yesterday when you got caught? >> I didn't. I didn't get caught yesterday. >> I know you didn't get caught. That's why you didn't get caught. >> I didn't go through, you guys. Then I walked away from the cart. >> You're not welcome at all. And so we're putting you in the database. Life. You are trespassed from Walmart for life. Doesn't matter if it's Yelm where you had an event. Doesn't matter where it's Tacoma. Doesn't matter Federal Way. Any Walmart. You are not welcome on the property and it's trespassing if you enter the property. Okay. >> All I can say is I can go get my my driver's license. You guys, I don't know what else to say. Why? I don't understand. >> The other officer just went out to your car. >> We already looked for your ID in there. >> Like look, >> I don't know what you're trying to get out of this. So, >> bonus twister. Her car is about to be towed and she's warned she might face felony charges if she doesn't cough up her real ID. No more games. Jail will figure her out via fingerprints. >> Hearing the judge is going to determine all the facts whether to give you bail or no bail and then they'll go from there. So I can just take them down to score say we haven't been able to identify her. She's going to get charged. Did you do false reporting as well? >> I did not because we can't confirm that. So once the jail calls me and says, "Hey, after we processed her, this is who she really is." >> Then you then we do it. >> Okay, good. And then I I can always amend the citation. >> I will do anything to get this right. I said I'm no idea and I won't ever come back to this Walmart. I promise. >> You do? You go to jail for that, too? >> What? >> Come back to this Walmart. >> I know. I'm saying I won't. There's so much worse things going on right now. Like I don't understand like why you guys can't give me the one chance. Like I've never been here before. >> So So you're right. There are worse things going on. But when we have a call for service, we have to answer that call for service. >> Yes, I did it. >> And instead of three police officers helping other citizens, we're sitting here dealing with you. One because we can't identify you. >> I know what I did. >> And because of your actions today. This is your citation. Can I tell anybody? >> You know where a little bit is. >> Oh, and surprise meth is found too. She pleads for mercy, but the officers aren't moved. This isn't her first performance. >> I'm not right there. >> Yeah. So, as long as you're not worried about that. Can't take any >> Can't take any IDs that are do not belong to you except for the Tessa one because >> Well, that one's a different middle initial. >> Yeah, but who? That's who she's claiming to be. Uh, this officer is going to drive me by your car and then you're going to watch me put all your stuff in the car and then I'll bring back the keys. No, >> I can't have a drink of water. >> No. >> Final nail in the coffin, she's informed that lying to cops is a felony. After some back and forth, she sort of kind of admits the truth. Final charges, theft, fraudulent returns, possession of meth, lying to law enforcement, class C felony. Moral of the story, if you fake returns, fake names, and fake innocents, don't be surprised when you get real charges. That's my stuff. That's why I said there's nothing. >> Talk to him. On October 3rd, 2024, officers were dispatched to Burlington in response to an active shoplifting incident. This is footage of the events that followed. >> What we get is very like sporadic. >> We have two females in here. >> Um, they've came in. This is our usual. They come in about 10:15 and they run around and stuff carts and then they attempt to walk out with them. >> Okay. >> Um, these ones came in very suspicious from the beginning. came in with empty bags, backpacks, stuff like that. Um, but that's what we've noticed. They're they're literally just grabbing stuff. >> So, are they still in here right now doing it? >> Still in right now. >> Okay. So, they're like it's in progress essentially. Okay. And I see that my back's just got here, too. So, >> um I will wait for them to come in and then we'll head in there. >> So, this back end over here through here. Okay. >> All right. Thank you. >> Two women walk into a store with empty bags. Never a good sign. Staff immediately suspect trouble as this is a classic setup. Phil now deny later >> for them to actually steal. That's what I'm wondering. Like in the Target overtime days, you just wait for them just so you have something to do. >> Yeah. >> What's the word? >> This is what they look like. Now she has this bag in the basket in the other bag. And as I'm going past the men's shoes now, you can kind of see her in the basket. >> She's putting items in there. >> You can kind of see her working in there. She's got watches. She's got shoes. They've got all kind of stuff in that basket. And this one, her backpack looks a little bigger than it was when she got here. >> But they're both in the back corner of our store right now. So, >> yeah, we got officers that move around the back side. >> Yeah, that's usually the ones that hang out by the men's shoes are usually the ones that hit the emergency door. So, >> and there is there four of them or just those two? >> Two. He said that two the other two people that came in at the same time as them. >> Did they already leave? This gentleman and another guy that came in right behind them, they've walked out already. >> Surveillance footage confirms the suspicion. One woman is casually tossing watches and shoes into a basket like she's on a game show. Bonus, her backpack is magically expanding like a wizard's suitcase. >> Um, >> yeah, we put every We didn't We put everything back. >> Okay. Then why don't you guys trespass? >> Okay. >> So, we're If you don't Do you have any ID on you? >> No, I don't. I got warrants. >> Okay. >> Good. How are you? >> How we doing? >> I'm fine. How are you? >> How we doing? So, >> we're fine. What's wrong? What happened? >> Okay. So, the store wants you guys trespass. >> Okay. >> Do you have any ID on you? >> Um, no. I'm from California. >> You're from California? Okay. >> My ID was in my purse when we got robbed. >> Police intercept them mid fraud. One suspect admits she has warrants and says her ID was stolen. Sure. By the same thief who made her stuff coats in her bag >> out with said bags. So, that would be stealing. >> There's nothing in here. >> Okay. >> That's my stuff. Uh those the >> sold both of the duffel bags. >> Officers peek inside and surprise find store merchandise, coats, headphones, the works. One woman tries the classic, "That's not mine excuse." Too bad her fingerprints are all over it. >> We're going to take you in on those warrants. >> And she's got a felony warrant. >> Please, no. >> Are those your shoes? >> Yes. They're Jordans. >> They're brand new. >> They They're mine. Uh, what other is it? Just this bag. >> It's just that coat. The other stuff is not. >> Turns out one suspect has a felony warrant collection. She's promptly escorted to her new ride, the back of a police car. >> Oh, darn. She lied. >> Yeah, >> the warrants here. >> Oh my god, it smells terrible in here. >> Do you guys mind getting like a dollar amount? >> Sick. >> All right. Well, you lied. Like I knew you did. >> More loot. Discovered wallets, watches, and probably Santa's list of who's naughty. The suspect's criminal resume just keeps growing. >> Oh, that was >> Okay. Well, I didn't know. >> That's why I always check. >> Okay. Well, I wasn't. >> Yeah, it's confirmed. >> Good. Okay, they're confirmed. So, she is under arrest now for sure. So, if you want to continue, you search her, take her, you know, the bags, all that kind of stuff. >> Okay. >> And the boots. The snakes skin boots. >> I think you had like five death shoplifting warrants. >> Four. >> Four. Oh, sorry. Yeah, two of them. It's probably getting real rough to give you a break if you got five. >> But two of them. >> I have I have courts. >> I'm not trying to get in your bed. I'm just >> I know you're not trying. I'm just being honest. And one of them, >> you got to stop. You got to know >> store staff walk police through the duo's grand theft shopping spree women's shoes to baby aisle to men's section. They even pretended to shop like normal humans. Almost convincing. >> Uh so we are going to end up taking you >> partially that but mainly from us. Okay. There's a lot of stuff that you know and I would like I'm going to be straight up for honest with you. Okay. >> Is Bonnie like uh I guess Bonnie like confirmed. >> And when did they as soon as they enter? Where did they go first? >> Uh they went to shoes, women's shoes, and they went to the baby section. And that was the first place that we seen them acting a little suspicious. They were kind of just grabbing shoes. And then they would start the conversations when we came over like, "Oh, what size shoe does this nephew or that nephew wear?" And I'm like, "You're in women's shoes." Talking about what your nephew wears. Um, from there, the one with the white sweater and the black stretch pants. Um, we saw her leave. >> Final act, they try to fail a payment and leave with the goods like it's just another Tuesday. Unfortunately, they didn't fail quietly and now they've got court dates >> here in our queuing. Grabbed a couple wallets. Um, and then they were hanging out in the men's shoe section. So, I walked past them about three or four times and I had noticed the things in the basket slowly disappearing. Like I walk by, you didn't go anywhere, but the watches are gone, the wallets are gone, these things are gone, and their bags were now stuck in the zipped. Um, at that point, it was about five, six minutes before that when I called you guys because I noticed the sus suspicious behavior. Um, after that, they attempted to come up to the register. Um, they took two things out of the basket, a pair of shoes and a kids jacket, and told my cashier, "Oh, my card's not working. I'm going to have to go to the ATM." Before she even rang anything up and then walked out. >> Busted red-handed. One had a wrap sheet long enough to roll out as a yoga mat. They were caught cuffed, and carted off, ending their discount crime spree. No coupons needed. Don't let a full bag fool you. Store security sees everything. Stealing today could mean jail tomorrow, especially if you've done it before. I don't want to hear that. And if she has proof that that she called? >> So, how she going to prove it? How she going to prove her phone in my house? >> Huh? >> You got a search warrant? >> No, I'm just asking, do you have a search warrant? Cuz I don't I just assert myself. Are you saying that's why that you are who you say you are >> and then that is you? >> I feel like something's definitely wrong right now and I just don't I need to talk to an attorney at Dunley because I don't understand. >> I know you don't understand question. >> I understand the question, but I also know that anything I say can be used against me and I want to make sure that >> How about that? I'll go back. The officer's questions are deliberate, aimed at exposing inconsistencies in the woman's story by asking for personal details tied to the stolen identity. Meanwhile, another officer in the squad car is working to get a photo of the real account holder's ID to compare it with the suspect, something the scammer clearly isn't prepared for. >> Right now, we have problem. Okay. >> So, are you saying you are sheriff? You are the individual that gave me that ID and that is exactly who you are. That's who you were born with. That information. >> Um, I've already explained that. I I do want to speak to an attorney though. That's if you're really arresting me right now for >> Are you detained right now? Are you under arrest? >> Well, no, I'm not detained, but you just read me my Miranda rights. You said >> because we're trying to determine if the crime was committed. So, now you're telling me you are that person or you're not that person. >> I've been telling you I'm that person, but I'm just trying to figure out why. So, the ID she gave me, she's claiming that's who she is from Pennsylvania. I spoke to the person that has the same information as her on the phone, the TD Bank, that their records have, and that person has had um an identity stolen in three different locations, and this is the newest one. One's in New York, one's in >> By law, police officers must read you your Miranda rights when you're under custodial interrogation, even if you're not formally arrested yet. In this case, the scammer is being questioned while in custody. So officers are legally obligated to inform her of her rights to ensure anything she says can be used in court. >> The girl said there was multiple sheriff whenever she tried to look me up. So she had an issue even finding me in the beginning. Like you know what I mean? So >> blaming things on a system error is a classic move scammers use to dodge responsibility. Meanwhile, the suspect's use of her phone raises suspicion she might be alerting accompllices that the scam has been exposed. At the same time, police finally received the real account holder's ID photo. Now, it's just a matter of comparing it to the suspect to confirm the truth. >> The picture that comes back to that is cut in half. Looks like it's not her. >> Everything's her besides the picture. Apparently, her identity has been taken in three different locations. >> Yeah. So, I told Teletype to email me the actual picture. So, they they don't have to send me an email. >> All right. Bring your car over here. >> That's my social law. >> Give me the right social. >> Yeah, we're just verifying the picture that's on the DM. >> Even with the real ID photo on the way, the suspect stubbornly insists she gave the correct information. She's clinging to her lies, hoping somehow it will hold up. But facing the truth is tough, especially when the consequences could be severe. Florida. >> No, just visiting. Um, I have another equipment I need to see though. Trying to I was telling that inside earlier that I can come back. >> So, you're saying that ID belongs to you? >> Yes, sir. >> So, when we run it and that's the picture that comes up from the state of Pennsylvania, that's not you. State to state. >> So, we're going to try this again. What's your name? >> Cheryl. >> I'm going to let you know if we don't get your name. >> If she keeps giving a false name, she's digging herself deeper, adding another charge for lying to law enforcement. The officer's growing frustration is understandable given the time and resources wasted on someone still trying to outsmart a system that's already caught up to her >> to tell you this is a fake ID. I'll show you how to get in there. >> See, you thought you printed a good ID except for the hologram showed up as a real print on your picture. It's not a hologram. The hologram showed up. >> I didn't. >> So, who are you? You're not Cheryl. You're not from Pennsylvania. And that's not your ID. So, let's try this again. Who are you? >> I need to understand exactly what's happening right now because you just said that if I >> No, no, I'm not. >> Police know that just the sight of handcuffs can escalate a suspect's emotions, but it can also serve as a pressure tactic. Sometimes showing the cuffs is enough to make a suspect crack and finally come clean. I'm not trying to be arrested right now. I'm not Let's not >> Well, you're good. All right. Fine. >> So, if I talk I'm not done talking. >> We're done. >> No, I wasn't done talking with this. >> We are done. Okay, I'm done. >> We are done. Turn off. But the harsh truth is she's in this situation because of her own choices. Refusing to give her real name won't protect her. It'll only stack more charges and make things far worse in the long run. >> If you understand what he's trying to tell you, right? So presenting false information, that's another charge separate from what happened in there. So you having another charge added. So you're not going to have anything. >> So we we can go back and forth with this all day, but that's going to be an extra charge and it's a felony. So I'm letting you know right now. So whatever game is you want to play is it is what it is. So, so if you want to add an extra charge to what you already have in there, that's up to you. All right. We could be here all day. So, >> I don't want an extra charge of any kind. I don't want any charge. >> Okay. So, are you ready to identify yourself? That means she'll remain in custody until her true identity is confirmed. whether it takes two weeks or even a year. But during a search, officers discover something that could finally crack the case. A piece of information that might reveal who she really is. >> Yeah. Lighter and pen. >> America's most convenient bank. Which bank is that? >> Who's no caller ID? Who's on the phone? Start walking over there. >> That's what I say for my boyfriend. It's not >> Your boyfriend's your person. >> Yeah, my person. Look, >> she's carrying two pens from another bank, possibly another target of her scam. One of the most frustrating things about dealing with scammers is the non-stop lying and dodging. It's not just time-consuming, it's outright disrespectful. And at this point, the officers are clearly running out of patience. >> I don't want to be put in as a J officer so I can give you my name. >> So, you want to give me your real name? >> I didn't. Listen, you don't understand. You don't know me. >> I'm trying to identify who you are, but you're you're over here. You're lying to me the whole time. She was ultimately charged with providing false ID to law enforcement and possessing another person's ID without consent. Her sentence 60 days in jail and 12 months of probation. That alone shows how far and wide the web of scamming can stretch. With over 23 million Americans falling victim to identity theft each year, it's one of the fastest growing crimes worldwide. All right, let's move to this next case where things might get even messier. >> Stop. On the evening of September 25th, 2022, Officer Brown was notified by Walmart loss prevention that a man had taken two duffel bags out of their packaging and filled them with items. A second man appeared to be with him, acting as a lookout. Officer Brown positioned himself outside the general merchandise doors as loss prevention watched the men go into the selfch checkckout area where they purchased a Halloween costume. Then took the duffel bags and walked toward the exit. Is everyone with him or just him? >> Okay. Okay, blue bag still in. Unless you want to wheel it out. >> Yeah. >> Oh, iPod. You probably want the case number, too. >> Oh, yeah. >> Here's my card. >> It's 2024-4897. >> Yeah. Thank you. All right, man. Left here. Yeah. >> Yeah. It's chilly out here, right? Just grab a seat. Just slide underneath that. All right. I'll come talk to you in a second. >> Right. Can I ask you just one quick thing? >> Yeah, of course. >> Totally your opinion. Is it is it your thought she was trying to keep the stuff and that's why she kicked you or was she just did she already abandoned it all? Was just >> She was trying to get away. >> Okay. >> The store officer confirmed she only went aggressive once. Caught basically admitting yep, she was trying to pull a fast one. >> I think she was trying to get away. I don't know cuz the stroller was sitting like if you watch when you see the video, you'll see the stroller was just sitting in the middle of the floor like right in this area and I already had her in the corner and she was like, "Are you the police?" And I was like, "Listen, I'm not the police, but I can apprehend you. If you want to make it difficult, I'll pull I'll cuff you." And that's when she started getting resistant. >> And when she shoved me, she shoved me from like cuz she was like this in the corner already >> and I already had her arms and she went like that. >> Final score. Suspect charged with retail theft and assaulting a security officer. The stroller getaway plan not quite as smooth as Oceans 11. Don't let a full bag fool you. Store security sees everything. Stealing today could mean jail tomorrow, especially if you've done it before. >> Why are you taking AC? >> Put your feet up. >> Why are you arresting me? >> On June 30th, 2023, Walmart's loss prevention team identified a white female in a gray and black shirt shoplifting on surveillance footage. As officers arrived, the suspect fled the store, abandoning a cart of unpaid items. >> Just going for a jog, >> huh? >> Just going for a jog? >> No, I didn't take it, though. They have it. >> 22 22. >> Please, please don't do this to me. Please. >> Oh my god. >> The suspect emotionally pleaded with officers denying the theft and asking not to be arrested. Despite her please, she was detained and placed in a patrol vehicle. >> Here, come on. >> Can I just go pay? >> Give me this. >> Are you helping in digital? >> All right. Come to the car. What are you serious? Please, no. Oh my god, I'm so sorry. >> Please don't. >> You can start one. Might be three involved. >> Please don't do this to me, sir. Please don't do this. I didn't do anything. >> Take a seat. >> I didn't do anything. >> Take a seat. Take a seat. Take a seat. >> I didn't do anything. >> Take a seat, miss. Miss, take a seat. >> Take a seat. >> Put your feet up. >> Why are you arresting me? Miss, put your feet up. >> Why are you arresting me? >> Put your feet up. You're being detained for shoplifting right now. >> I didn't take >> Okay, then we'll get to the bottom of that. Get in the car. >> You can make any purchase in just 0% as in 0.0. All designed. >> Yeah, we'll get that situated in a second. >> Yep. >> Incoming message. coming up. >> Please sir, I'll pay for it. Please. >> Okay. Come this way. Maybe the customer service. Take a seat on that bench over there. Officers worked with store staff to recover stolen items and identify potential accompllices. Two others were questioned but not detained. >> Hey, I got the one female in the gray. You guys got the stuff. Bring it over here. Okay. What about the other two? Okay. Do you have anything on them or you don't know yet? >> Okay. Well, >> okay. Well, if you want to grab them anyways cuz this one might have the keys for them. You can cancel the other unit. >> Do you have an ID in here, miss? >> Yeah. >> Where? >> In the um in the >> pink wallet. Pink. >> Yeah. >> Oh, no. It's in my phone, actually. I'm sorry. No, more right there. >> Attached. >> Yeah. >> And that right there. >> You guys came in one car, >> huh? >> You guys came in one car. >> Okay. Or is it in here? No, I don't see it. >> Maybe I don't have it. >> Oh, >> you guys have a number yet or no? >> No. >> It might take a good 20 minutes. 20 30 minutes to get a number on that. >> Okay. Just have them wait, >> huh? Just have them wait. Sorry, I got like three radios in my eye. >> What's your current address? >> No, I'm I'm homeless. >> Homeless. >> Take a seat for me. >> You need anything for me? >> Uh, if you just want to stand by for a second, trying to see whatever the number is so, man. >> A car accident, bro. Driver. >> The suspect's mother admitted she had warned her daughter repeatedly about stealing, but her advice had been ignored. Yeah. >> All right, sir. We got to read you something real quick. All right. You have the right to remain silent and not answer any questions. You have the right to the presence of a lawyer of your choice before you make any statement during questioning. If you cannot afford a lawyer, you are entitled to the presence of a courtappointed lawyer before you make any statement. And during any questioning, any statement can and may be used against you in a court of law. Any statement you make must be freely and voluntarily given if at any time. During questioning, the suspect confessed to not paying for any items, panicked when confronted, and initially lied about having money. She claimed her mother would have covered the cost. Threats are promises to induce you to make a statement. This must be of your own free will. Okay. All right. So, what happened today, Sarah? Why were you running when these gentlemen just tried to have a conversation with you outside? >> Huh? >> I didn't know what to do. >> Why did you leave all the property that you said you paid for? >> I didn't pay for it. >> You didn't pay for anything? No. >> You didn't pay for nothing that you had on your cart? No. >> No. You just walked out and then you got scared of me. >> Huh? >> They they I left the car with them when I left. >> Okay. But you walked out. >> You can't stop watching. >> You walked out. These gentlemen who work for Los Prevention tried to stop you and have a conversation with you and you took off running from him. >> Yes. >> Okay. And did he tell you not to run or you would go to jail? >> You remember hearing that? No. No. Okay. If you have if you told me you had money to pay for all this stuff, I come here and just pay for it. >> I don't have money. My mom would I have to pay for it. I didn't want her. >> Who else is here with you? >> My mom and my daughter. >> And your daughter? Where were they while you were not paying for this stuff? >> Did they buy their own stuff? >> I don't know where they are. There's my mom will definitely buy. She's not going to steal stuff. Is that what you mean? >> No, I'm just talking about you cuz we've been watching you guys for a while. You guys are communicating and went your separate ways and then you decided to go out a different way than where you actually paid for your stuff. You paid on this side, went back through the aisle. What? >> It would work. The card machine wouldn't work. >> Oh, the card machine or your card? >> I don't know if it was the card machine or my card. it wouldn't work cuz I had gift cards and I was going to pay like with a couple gift cards but it wouldn't work and I had Walmart gift cards and Visa gift cards on my boyfriend. >> Uh I was notified by one of my cosmetics associate Elena Monsoon that she knows Caucasian female picking up the items from the cosmetics. So I should keep an eye on her. A Walmart employee explained that the suspect gathered merchandise from multiple departments, placed it in tote bins, and attempted a debit card transaction that failed, then exited through a different door. >> Was an hour where she selected multiple items um from the jewelry department, cosmetic department, toys department, uh multiple departments throughout the store. She then made her way to the front of the store where she had she met up with a young lady and a lady that presumed to be her mom. She then made her way around the store again back to the tote department. Tupperware department where she selected two totes from the Tupperware department. She placed all the items that was inside a shopping cart inside those totes. She made a way to the central grocery side of the store where she attempt to pay for four items which her debit card >> that's on the the east side. >> That's on the east side of the store which her debit credit card didn't go through. Um she then left she left the the um septic out on the east side of the store, made her way to the west entrance of the store um exited the store um by by the grocery entrance which is west side of the store where she was approached by myself and APA Kevin. >> Walmart confirmed they would press charges. The total value of the stolen items was around $1,800 including the stolen bins >> that was on duty which went to retrieve her brought it back to the AP office which we are Walmart or willing to prosecute for the >> amounted up to 1,000 I think it was like $800 or something like that. >> Okay. >> Around about that figure. >> Oh the receipts here you gave me correct? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. Um and the the tote tupperware that's like a black container. >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. And the the white female that I detained is the same white female in question. >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. All right. This interview is concluded at 18:20 hour. >> Due to a prior theft conviction, the suspect was charged with felony retail theft. She received a $5,000 bond. Her mother and daughter were released with no charges. Repeat offenses turn minor crimes into serious felonies fast. A prior conviction can be the difference between freedom and years behind bars. >> Get out. On June 30th, 2024 in Epston, police were called to a CVS about a repeat shoplifter, a woman in her 70s. Despite her age, she was well known to staff and caught hiding stolen items in her purse and under her clothing. >> Ma'am. Ma'am, >> can I talk to you? >> I watch it. Look in the bag. >> Look in the bag. >> Look in the bag. >> Despite her age, the suspect gave the young officer a run for his money. Maybe all that past shoplifting doubled as cardio training. >> Get out. Let me see your hands. Get out. What are you doing? Get out. >> Thank you. >> Facing the wall between two dumpsters, she seemed to brace for what was coming. Perhaps already feeling the weight of shame. While she didn't appear to be carrying anything, the upcoming search would prove just how deceptively hidden stolen goods can be. >> Camera from police. >> Come on. Sh. Look at you. >> What's the matter with you? You stand up. >> That's crazy. >> I put it back the thing and they still want to talk. As if things weren't humiliating enough, one of her own peers called her out, adding insult to injury. Still, she stuck to her story, claiming innocence and silently hoping the cops wouldn't find what she had stashed away. >> What's going on? >> What are you reaching for? My pad. I want you to reach my not reaching for your pants. >> Yes, I am. Take your hand off. >> Look at the napkin. >> Why? >> Let go. >> Look at the napkin and just stop. >> See, it's all >> Yeah, you'reing stupid in here. >> No, I'm not. >> I'm looking. I'm feeling it. >> I'm not. >> Just stop. Just stop. >> Hold my down. >> Stop. Stop. Listen to me. Stop. >> Pull my clothes down. >> Stop. >> You're hurting me. I don't care. >> Stop. Stop. You're hurting me for >> just relax. >> Stop. Why did you do that? >> You're hurting me. >> Can you hold her? She stopped me in her. >> The female officer was convinced the woman was still hiding stolen items and was prepared to search thoroughly every possible hiding spot if that's what it took to uncover the truth. >> Stop. Stop playing games. You're hurting me. >> I don't care. >> You're hurting me. >> I told you. Yeah, >> she dropped them when I started uh chasing her. >> Yeah, like in between the cars. It's like a personal purse, like a tote bag. It's on the south side of the street by the McDonald's across. All right, she's good as far as >> Yeah. >> Watch your head. >> Oh, yeah. As it turned out, this seasoned shoplifter had indeed stashed the stolen goods right where officers least wanted to look. With the evidence recovered, she was taken into custody and booked at the station. When shoplifterss go to extreme lengths to avoid getting caught, things can spiral fast. Lying to officers or resisting when caught red-handed only turns a minor offense into a major one. And once that line is crossed from petty theft to serious charges, there's no talking your way out. The law always catches up. What a stubborn Karen, right? Comment your opinion about this shoplifter below.
