How did you get up here with a shotgun? You just carried it up here? Yes, sir. Are you kidding me? Are you sorry for hurting him? Yeah. Yeah, but he can hit me all he wants. Doesn't matter anymore. It was April of 2018, approximately around 8:00 a.m. when 19-year-old Sky Bouch, a former student at Forest High School in Okala, Florida, arrived at the school. But this time, he wasn't carrying a bag or books. He was carrying a shotgun concealed in a guitar case disappearing into the men's washroom. The guitar case contained a 16 gauge sawed off shotgun. As for his backpack, it had a vest, gloves, and multiple shotgun shells. Unlawful possession of any firearm, including a shotgun, is a thirdderee felony punishable by up to 5 years in prison, andor $5,000 fine. But that didn't matter to Sky. Catch all that. right here. Hold on. Secure. What the hell is that? Who was that? 996. 996. 996. I think it was a signal 35. If you could uh send me signal 55 C hallway. Hey, lock this school down. 26 on where? Who was it? What happened? What happened? 96. I have a shotgun in the hallway laying on the ground. Did we lock the school down? Lock the school down now. Right now. Somebody said McManus has the kid. Huh? McManus has the kid. Where? Sky had shot a 17-year-old in the ankle through the door of classroom 212, but he wasn't done. He then moved to classroom 229 and left his gun there. Meanwhile, Deputy Jim Long heard the 8:39 a.m. shot and arrived in 3 minutes as staff filled the halls. Sky left his gun in the hallway and entered another classroom. Hey, you stay right there. Ain't nobody in her building. [Music] Down on the ground. What the hell? Put your hands behind your back. Air. One out. Okay, stop right there. Stop right there. Who is he? He shot through the door, but he doesn't know which. 996 burn. I have one in custody. They're saying he's a shooter. He's by himself. Did anyone see him? No, no, he was outside. He came down. Do you go to this school? I used to, sir. What the? Sky had dropped out of Forest High years earlier, but returned with unclear motives. Motives that shocked the entire community. All right, go out. Everyone out. Hey, keep them right there. 96. Burn. I got one in custody. He's saying he's the shooter. Where is the hallway? D hallway upstairs room. What room are we in? D229. D229. The uh signal zero is still in the hallway. Room 229 upstairs for the responding unit. Room D229 upstairs. Signal Z still in the hallway. Looks like they've locked all the doors. Where do I need to go? What building? If someone Hold on just one. Go secure the the the gun for now. Where's that? It's in the hallway. Restroom. Secure. There's another one in the in the restroom. No, I said the guns in front of the restroom. Okay. I'm sorry, sir. I wasn't raised by the right people. Are you kidding me? There's a lot of violence. I don't know. 53 45. The front doors of the main building are all locked. I'm walking around. Are you serious? I don't know why. Don't say another word. Don't say another word. Do you have anything else on you? No, sir. Do you have any other weapons on this campus? Do you have any other explosives on this campus? Sir, I put all my stuff on the table behind you, sir. But why? The question hit answers so deep. Nobody expected a 19-year-old would pull off such an act. And finally, during Deputy Long's interrogation, the real reason surfaced, and it changed everything. How did you get up here with a shotgun? You just carried it up here? Yes, sir. Are you kidding me? What stairs did you come? Holy cow. What door did you come in? Right here. Is there anybody else with you? No, sir. I'm the only one. You're the only one? Yes, sir. Any pros coming in here? I don't need anybody in here. I really don't. But he says there's no no more bombs, no more anything. I'd like to check his vehicle. And it's that exterior outside. Are you sure there's no one else with you? Yes. Yes, sir. I'm not lying. He says that there's no other people. He worked on his own. There is no explosions or anything that else is going to happen. He said that there is nobody else. That's what he's saying. He's the only one. Am I right? Yes, sir. Forest. Is he a student here, Jimmy? No. He used to be. He says secure 562. What's your name? Sky. First name is Sky. My last name. Sky. S Y. S K Y. And your last name? Bush. B O. How'd you get here? Your car out here? Yeah. Exterior. That exterior out there that I I put a bolo out and they're out they're 1012 with it now. Okay. Uh, and anyone in my family, make sure they don't get near because they're very mentally ill and very not stable. Do they know you're here? No, sir. How would they be know you're here then? No, I'm just saying like if they find out, they may get violent. They may. So, I just want them, you know, just let you know that they're not safe people. It was clear Sky was mentally troubled, but more so terrified his family might turn violent on him. In interviews, he revealed the act stemmed from a mental health crisis. Sky, are you sure you're the only one? Uh, yes, sir, buddy. Cuz I'm telling you, your world's going to There's a butt. What is the butt? Hey, if you don't freaking tell us everything. No, I'm saying that there's today is the day of hell mine. So, other people are going to do what I do just because Do you know of other people that are doing I'm a lone wolf. There's no one else that I worked with. I'm telling you the truth. All right. There's no reason for me to hit you right now cuz I gave up after one shot and I'm telling you everything I know that the kid you shot would would a random kid or something I shot through the door. I didn't know the gun would even work. I just wanted to scare people. I didn't even know this. [Applause] You know that doesn't make any sense, right? Well, yeah. What What sense does it make to you? Uh, it's hard to understand if you haven't gone through mental illness or you growing up in So, you got you not saying that. Just excuse. Do you have a mental disorder? Uh, everyone in my family's either bipolar or schizophrenic. Okay. Are you bipolar or schizophrenic? Uh, I've been to a mental hospital once and they told me I was fine. They just medicated. Anxiety meds. That was it. They said I was good. Do you feel good? No, sir. So, you feel like you're messed up aside from today's events? Uh, sometimes, you know, I I just don't feel anything. It's hard to describe cuz no one believes me. People kind of think it's kind of funny. All right. Sky B. Uh, yes, sir. What's your date of birth, guy? Sky Bouch admitted he staged the shooting to land in jail and get help. After his arrest, he revealed the deeper truths behind his actions. What do you have to say to to people who are out there who are scared because of of what you did today? Uh, I don't know if it's going to make it any better. I could say sorry all I want, but doesn't matter now. Do you feel sorry? Do you feel remorseful? Yeah. I That's why I put down the gun. I could have kept going. There was no officers there to stop me. I I put it down because there was a girl there. She She didn't run from me. She just, you know, I shot through the door. I could have shot her, but I just I don't know. I just couldn't do it. So, I just shot through the door. She was walking and crying and walking away and that just made me just throw that on the gun instead of bumping it and kept and you know, instead of shooting more doors, I stopped and I gave myself to a teacher. Now that now that this has ended the way that it did, um what do you have to say to the to the uh the 17-year-old who who was I didn't see him, but So that was unintentional. What happened there? It was just through the door, but I I heard someone screaming like they were hurt cuz I never heard that scream before. So Sky had purchased the 1930 shotgun online, which didn't have any papers on it. The moment he realized someone was hurt, fear and regret hit him, prompting him to stop. But what was going through his mind before he pulled the trigger? Here's what he revealed. So, did you see this as your only way out of your situation? Pretty much. Yeah. Really? And walk me through this morning when you got up to to when the incident happened. It uh Well, yeah. I I I woke up. Mhm. I took my saw off shotgun. I I chambered one of the shells and cuz it only holds three rounds. So, I put another one in the tube. Put it away. And pretty much all anything I'm feeling this time is just adrenaline rush. It's not not anger. It's not hatred. It's just this adrenaline rush that, you know, I'm about to just do something and, you know, I spend most of my time in a in a room alone. So, like I'm getting this rush. So, that's what I was feeling. So, But till I actually got to the school that, you know, the excitement built and it built and it built and I realized there's no resource officers around. There's no there's no one to stop me like I thought there would be. And I just got into the bathroom. I took my time putting on my gloves, my my tactical vest. And but as soon as I walked in the bathroom, he said, and yes, put on your gear. Everyone would just got into their classroom. Sky Bouch described the moment as an adrenalinefueled blur, like being trapped inside a game. He didn't know where to start or stop. What he wanted was attention, and if no one was watching, he'd make sure they did. And when you when did you got it basically? I don't remember the exact date, but around But like like couple of weeks after, three weeks. Yeah, like a week after. A week. So, a week after the um the Parkland shoot. Yeah, around there. Okay. So, it hasn't been long that you've been planning this. It's uh I don't I don't have these like sort of fantasies towards hatreds toward people and like unless I get really depressed. And I was training martial arts before this. I was training Muay Thai and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. And uh I was feeling, you know, I wasn't depressed or anything, but I just didn't have any friends. And and as soon as I got a knee injury, you know, I'm alone in my house and there's nothing to do. So depression and that rage came back and you know I just I didn't express I couldn't express it in violence in a martial arts place so I expressed it in violence in public which I shouldn't have done. No. Sky Bouch was charged with terrorism, aggravated assault with a firearm, possession of a firearm on school grounds, carrying a concealed weapon, and armed trespassing. Prosecutors said his actions were meant to intimidate and incite fear legally fitting the definition of terrorism. He later pleaded no contest and was sentenced to 30 years in prison followed by 30 years of probation. Sky Bouch acted out of deep loneliness and a desperate need to be seen.
