I know that they do full sites. So, if you have something like Where is the Where is the Where's the piercing located? Near my out of the car, you see this? Get out of that car. You not have smoked tonight. Okay. What did you smoke? I will not drink. Okay. I didn't try running from him. Mhm. Because if I tried running, do you think I would have stopped? Teens, drinks, drugs, and a whole lot of bad decisions. Watch as these brave souls try to outsmart the cops only to discover they're not as sneaky as they think. So, you're an adult, right? Yeah. I don't know. You're apparently new here. She's 19, she said. Right. So, you're an adult, right? So, here's the deal. like you go if I I don't know exactly how this is going to go, but one of the cards on the table is you're going to jail today. Wait, what? Correct. Depending on what those are, there's a possibility that you may go to jail today, right? So, just because someone reported, you have illegal substances in your possession. Everyone at school does, too. Everybody. Yes. Every single kid. Not every single kid, but some do. And matter of fact, so you're not you wouldn't be the first kid I arrested this school year. So here's and I can promise you you're not going to be the last. Okay, this is not how life goes. You don't get to choose. When you bring illegal stuff to a high school, when you bring illegal stuff to a high school, what you want kind of goes out the window. I don't know if you understand that, but So here here's my other thing is I think that what you have is the pen that these screw into. No, I don't. Right here. I don't. That's someone else's. Okay. It's someone else. All right. So, you have it. You don't have it on. Who took it? Who took it? Is it someone who goes to school here? The person that literally probably named me here. Okay. So, what I'm thinking is you have something you have something right here. You are you decided it was a good idea to take in possession all this stuff knowing it's illegal and that you're an adult and that you're an adult. Yeah. Why? I didn't I didn't know that someone was going to tell on me that I was holding their stuff. Who was it? She was blonde with glasses. So So it's a stranger now. No, it's not a stranger. I've known her. So what's her name? Amber. We got her name. You never So it's a somebody you don't even know their name. Glass is in blonde and she asked me for my name. I never actually So she asked you for your name then proceeded to give you felonious items. Items that can result in a felony criminal charge for you to hold. And when were you going to meet up? When are we going to give it back to this person? Like in the bathroom later. What bathroom? An officer encountered a teenager who had been caught bringing a THC vape to school. Like I don't know. They went to different bathrooms. So So how were you going to give it back to them? What was the plan? So people just give people stuff and just say I will find you later. Yeah, that's how it works. This is the first I'm hearing of this. Very rarely is it that much of a shadow. But today she did ask me, "Hey, can you hold?" And then ask me my name. And then now I'm right here for the first time ever for this type of stuff and I'm about to get arrested. You know it's illegal. If I give you a gun and I say you hold it for me, are you going to hold it? Okay. So if I give you fentanyl, are you going to hold it for me? No. It's just that I didn't know. If I give you crack, you going to hold it for me? Who do you live with? Grandma. Grandma. She has cancer. Okay. So, what are you doing? What are you You're an adult. What are you doing? This is how you solve it? By offering drugs to kids on campus. This is how you kids. What do you think? What do you think? Oh my god. Those are not mine. Okay. Why are you holding drugs for my friend? That's being depressed or that's being No, I think being depressed and holding drugs for your friend are two different things, my friend. Yeah. I'll put my stuff for you. Thank you. No. Oh my god. They're not mine. So why are you holding them? Unfortunately, I just want you to understand. No, I understand. You don't dumb it down. If this person doesn't If we can't locate this person, this person doesn't come forward and identify it as theirs, you're going to be responsible for it. And you are. No, I know I am. And that's why I'm really stressed out. Okay. And so whatever you have on your person, cuz I think you stop, stop, stop, stop. I'm gonna arrest it anyway. Stop. I'm gonna turn it over to law enforcement. So, whatever. I don't have anything. So, whatever you have, you got to just give it to Mrs. We're going to step out. You're going to give it to Mrs. Duon and it's going to go with this. I don't have anything. In the United States, possession of THC vapes by minors, especially on school grounds is illegal and taken seriously. Most states prohibit anyone under 21 from possessing cannabis products, including vapes. Bringing such substances to school can lead to both school disciplinary actions and legal consequences such as suspension, expulsion, juvenile detention, or mandatory counseling. Then this then this is what happens because it is now turned over to law enforcement and law enforcement has a female officer come in in a secluded room and they search you. So here's the deal. That's if it goes that way. If it doesn't, then you're going to go to the jail and they're going to search you. They're going to search you at the jail. If you bring something to the jail, it's a felony, an additional felony. So, right now, if you have anything, we're going to It is important that you just give it to us. We're trying to help you. This is done. If you have something on you, they will escort you to the jail. They will search you there. If you have something on you at the jail, you're getting search at the jail. Every person that comes into the jail. I know that they do full searches. So you have something like where is the where is the where's the piercing located near my is it like do we not have any more awkward questions please going to jail for the first time I feel like I feel like I feel like I feel like we're all being adults about this situation okay this is my first time we're going to jail you think I'm feeling I understand that but We're trying to have an adult conversation here. I understand again you chose to get this piercing. So, it's like can't be that much of a surprise we're having this conversation. Well, I need to ensure that I need to ensure that what's going on here is that's actually what it is. Yeah, I understand that. So, I I've been nothing but professional with you. Obviously, I'm frustrated by the situation because like I don't understand why you're not understanding what's going on. I understand that. Can I Can I use the bathroom? You're not the restroom. I pee. You cannot use the restroom at all cuz you're now in the place. Oh, I know. I know that from the deputy champion. Hold the kid. Enough to get a couple of these. I mean, I'm pretty sure these are these are THC for sure. She said that they that they're THC. Yeah. So, they probably are. Yeah, they are. I arrested someone before spring break for this same brand. This one? I don't know what it is cuz this one isn't the same. It's not labeled. Yeah. So, if this other person gave you up and that's what you're saying, besides blonde and glasses, what does this person look like? He's tan. And what bathroom was this? Did this take place in bathroom? And what time? Oh my god. Do you not recall? I've heard some of my other friends say that some people love to tell on them on purpose, even if they also smoke as well. People Someone telling on somebody else. Oh, they have hate. You have no idea. But you said they also asked you to hold stuff. No, I didn't anything. No, they asked you said that this person asked you to hold their stuff for them. Yeah. So, it was downstairs between what classes? Um, fifth. So, it's during fifth. Yeah. Or And I heard someone nearby say, "Oh, watch out. There's a tattletail in here in the middle of fifth period." Yeah. Either during class. During or before or after? During, before, after. That's like That's like an hour time frame. That doesn't really help me. I'm We're trying to help. We're trying to help you. Ask you before before downstairs 200 before fifth period. In the bathroom. In the bathroom. Okay. Do you remember what she was wearing? Not as much. She have any distinguishing features? Glasses. Tan glasses. downstairs 200 building restroom before fifth period is the one that she she gave you the stuff in the bathroom or outside of the bathroom. Inside if it was outside. I'm pretty sure the camera was like in the in front of the bathroom or in the bathroom. Inside of the bathroom. Okay. She she gave her that stuff and asked her her name. Hey, what's your name? I said Natalia and then I left. Okay. Well, break it down for me the whole situation from the VA. I went to the Russian talking to some of my friends. Okay. And then she um she was like, "Hey, can you She was in there. She came in after." She was in there. She came in and I'm pretty sure some of her friends were smoking with her. Did you see them? Yeah. Okay. say you you're not pretty sure you you saw them smoking and uh one of her friends like oh remember last time and then you know and then she came no I don't know what that means like I don't like it's because of I can't arrest you I can't charge you for you buying weed in the past so if that's what you did or that's what happened in the past I can't oh my god you're just not waiting okay so you're not explaining it so she came up to me after me talking to her friend. And then she's like, "Hey, can you hold my stuff?" And then she um I was about to leave. She's like, "What's your name?" And then I say, "Natalia." And then I leave. What was her friend's name? How did she give it to you? Like in your hand? In my hand. In your hand. Wow. [Applause] She's 19. 19. Yep. Yeah. There. I mean, there's enough for sure to to get from for this one. I don't know what it is, but these are legit from California based on uh I made a 1015 before spring break, but she had these in there, too. These are packaging. This is the packaging for these neon ones. And it's uh yeah. Yeah, this is like the real stuff. She was charged with possession of a controlled substance by a minor, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession on school grounds, violation of drug-free school zone laws, and possible intent to distribute. What's going on, everybody? I don't know. I'm her mother. We just came from Miami. Okay. We don't know what is going on. She's having a rough night. Okay. I guess she was walking down the sidewalk. I have no idea what sparked a lady that was on her bike to call 911. I don't know. Maybe she saw her, but you're going to get careful. The police is right there, too. Okay. A woman called 911 to report a heated argument between another woman and her boyfriend. When police arrived to address the situation, they attempted to speak with the couple, but the suspect became increasingly agitated, escalating the encounter. No, the lady said something to me on the plane. What' she say? Huh? What' she say? She asked what was wrong and then she started like getting kind of a like, you know, when people ask what's wrong, they start getting like worried about you and like a slick mouth. You come into Marriott Beachside. You come in through here. You have no legal reason to be here. Right. That is correct. Yes, sir. Where's your driver's license at? How old are you? I'm 19 years old. 19 years old. I was going to pick up my mom. So, you decided to flee from me when I'm trying to catch up to you for a traffic stop. I activated my lights out there and you sped up through the parking lot. I honestly didn't see you, guy. You sped up through the parking lot when I turned my lights on. All right. Okay. And you have no legal reason to be here if you're going Where's your mom work at? Huh? Where's your mom work at? Um, he was hair salon. It's by Big John's. Okay. So, why would you come into here then? Were you just you didn't want to get stopped by me? Pick her up from work, right? Why did you But why did you come through here? What? Why did you come through here? What? Why did you drive through here? Honestly goes honesty goes a long way, my friend. Okay. Honestly, my friends told me that they were here and I wanted to pick them up before I picked up my hand. No, you you told me here just a minute ago. You were just trying to You didn't want to get stopped by me. I never said that. I I said to Where were your friends at here? They were at the pool. That's what they told me. I came down from Big Pond. Okay. So, your friends are going to be over at the pool right there. I'm not believing it. I'm not believing it at all, my man. No, I'm just saying that they called me. They called me when I was in Big Pond and they said they're going to be here. Okay. You just told me though that you were going to go pick your mom up at a hair salon after. No, she works at the hair salon. At the hair salon, right? You said that she Where does she work? And I said I said you said you were on your way to pick her up. Yeah, actually. But then now it's all of a sudden that you're coming here to get some friends who were in a pool. No, sir. What I was saying was you asked me where does she work and I said she works at Key West Hair Salon. Mhm. And you also told me that you were going to go pick her up. Yeah, cuz she's with her friend, right? So, how does it go from picking her up to coming out here? Here, come on out. I'm have you I'm going to have you talk I'm going to stand out here while I run your ID and make sure you're good. Okay, come on out. Police apprehended a self-absorbed 19-year-old for driving under the influence, ending the incident with a swift encounter that ensured public safety. Can I say something before? That's fine. All right, let's go. Can I say something before? Just One second. Before what? Before you put me in the car, go ahead. Um, I'd like to let you know. Yes. If you see any drinks in my car, I hope you know that. Yeah. Place the vehicle. Keep keep talking. What did you want to say? Um, if you want to like just to let you know if anything was going to happen to me or if you see anything in that car that you think's mine, I have friends in my car. Okay. And yeah, that's all I got to say. So, I know I asked you some of these already, but got to go through it again. So, are you ill? Am I ill? Like mentally ill? No, like like any kind of sickness, illness, you know, like something That's going on. Not that I know of. Okay. You mentioned ADHD, right? That's it. Yes. Okay. Are you wearing dangers like a false teeth, partial plate, anything like that? Like nothing like that in your mouth? No, ma'am. Okay. Do you have any foreign substances in your mouth at this time? Like chewing gum, tobacco? No, I can prove it to you. What's that? I said no, I can prove it to you. No, I'll take your word for it. Will you take the breath test? No. Okay. So you have the right to refuse, but I'm required by state to read you. Understand the consequence. Understand? So I'm officer Bernata of the Key West Police Department. If you fail to submit to the test I have requested of you, your privilege to operate a motor vehicle will be suspended for a period of one year for a first time refusal. Do you understand the implied concept warning, which is this is what it's called. Okay. Am I allowed to ask a question before I give an answer? Okay. So, I thought that it was Wasn't it a felony um before like for getting a DUI like if if you got convicted or if if you did or didn't do it? If it's a first time DUI, it's a misdemeanor. Okay. No, I was just confused about that. Okay. So, now that we cleared it out, I I don't know. Like, I know what I did, but it like Okay. So, do you understand what I just read to you? Huh? Do you understand what I just read to you? Yes, ma'am. Yeah, I did. Okay. Do you still refuse to submit to this test knowing your driving privilege will be suspended for a period of at least one year? Yes or no? Yes. Okay. Okay. If you can sign that for me right here. That's just literally your acknowledgement that what I read to you, you understand. You can read this again if you like. Okay. One question. Mhm. Before I do sign, cuz I know what I did. I'm not saying I went wrong at all. Mhm. But let's say like I do sign even though I did refuse. Correct. Yeah. Yes. Does that mean like if I go to court and I do beat the case? Cuz I know I'm not going to say that, but if I do, does that mean this is still going to like be on my record? It doesn't matter. This signature, it it's all the same to me if you sign it or not. Everything's been recorded. So basically, you told me you understand what I told you. Yes, ma'am. Uh this paperwork requires your signature. If you don't want to sign it, it really doesn't matter. Your signature on anything is not an admission of guilt. It just goes to show that I I understand what you're saying. Okay, cool. In the US, driving under the influence, DUI laws make it illegal to operate a vehicle while impaired by alcohol or drugs. A blood alcohol concentration, BAC, of 0.08% or higher is considered over the legal limit for most drivers. Penalties vary by state, but commonly include fines, license suspension, mandatory DUI education programs, and possible jail time. He just kind of didn't listen to anything I said and he only took the fact that I said, "Oh, I'm going to go there." And he was like, "If your friends are there, are they going to be there right now?" I'm like, "I don't know." That's the whole point. Like, I didn't know. They called me 15 minutes ago. They're with other people. Okay. And I tried explaining to him and he was like, "Well, why did you do this and why'd you try running from me?" I didn't try running from him. Mhm. Because if I tried running, do you think I would have stopped? So if he wanted to charge you with you trying to run, which we called fleeing and looting in the vehicle, that would be a felony and you would be in a handcuffs right away. But the thing is why you're here. I don't understand why I would be asked to be brought out the car immediately then if that wasn't the case. If he's what I said I don't understand why I would be asked to be brought out of the car immediately if that wasn't the case. Because he observed the sound of uh impairment on you and it's not safe to leave. But that's the same thing if like I would be smoking weed. Like if you don't smell it, just because you see it in somebody doesn't mean that they are impaired. Yes. But he had a suspicion. We call it a reasonable suspicion, right? That you've been impaired. That's why he asked you to step out. And that's when the DUI investigation followed. So you're not here for any of that reason. You got stopped because you were speeding. And he did you a favor and not cite you for speeding, which is a lot bigger citation. He he he cites you for careless driving which I was going to explain to you at the end. And then once it was observed that you might be under the influence, that's when we started DUI investigation. That's why you're in jail. I thought it was already that from the beginning because I in instantly started being interrogated and told me to be against against the wall and oh you have these steps and if you agree to it to do this and that then I mean it was kind of like from the beginning. If it if it wasn't that he would have just been like okay like I know you're speeding or whatever and he didn't do all that. He just said get out the car. Yeah. Because he saw you were under the influence. I mean, but how does he know that, though? Because we're trained to observe the signs and clues. I I understand. I understand everything that you're saying, but how would you know? Training and experience. I know, but at the same time, like, have you ever got like caught like thinking the wrong thing? Yep. That's when we do the whole DUI investigation. So basically I would have to sit in jail like even if you were wrong let's just say listen you did the field right exercises yeah to make it easy where I was able to observe a lot of clues of impairment okay if you want to see the details what and why you can request your arrest report and you can see that okay I'm not going to go over everything here with you and now you have the chance or still have a chance to provide your breath sample to determine the alcohol So if you're not impaired, you can prove it. I'm just there's no point of doing that though. Like Okay. Well, then if that's how you feel, then cuz I I know the individual was charged with a misdemeanor and for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. [Music]
