I just don't want to go to jail. Now you're going to the car. Ma'am, you need to put your stuff on the hood. Put your stuff on the hood. Wait. Wait. Please help me. on the hood. Please help me. No. Can I go to Put your hands behind your back. What happened? And they're going to say whether or not that they whatever they observed was uh you or not. I didn't take anything from there. Shoplifting often starts as a fun prank, but it can quickly escalate into serious theft when they start stealing shopping malls, jewelry stores, and more. But what happens if you get caught, especially on live footage? That would be beyond embarrassing. And that's exactly what happened to these individuals when they were caught stealing, or in fancy words, shoplifting. Hello. I'm Officer Robinson, Traffic Enforcement Division. I'm conducting a theft investigation. You're now free to leave at this time. Go ahead. I'm conducting a theft investigation. They paid in in there. What's that? They paid in there. Someone else is paying for the merchandise that you walked out with? I did. No. No. No. No. No. No, listen. How did I walk out with it? Don't. Don't. I'm not. We're going to do this or Relax this hand. Hey. Hey. Listen to me. Oh my god. What's going on? What's going on? While we investigate, I'll put you in handcuffs and then pull you out. Why are we doing this? The alarm didn't go off. Why are we doing this? The alarm didn't go off. You're pulling. But listen to me. No. No. No. You listen. First, put you in handcuffs, make it safe for me, then we look into the details. Thank you. Welcome. Okay. Thank you. Just cuz I put you in handcuffs doesn't mean you're getting charged. It means it gives me time to investigate. Explain. You walked out with stuff and not paying for it. We'll work it out for you. We're not just going to take you to jail. Give us a minute. Can you stay 10-12? Thank you. This woman committed a grand theft of almost $750 from Target. She was later arrested for theft and for resisting an officer without violence. Hey, Walter. What's up? Hey, where's your Where's your buddy? Uh-uh, my bad. She don't even know what's going on. So She's saying that she's about to pay for all of it. Hey, Walter. I'm paying. It's just something they always do. I got you. Yeah. I'm just Hey, let me make sure Yeah. So, if you want to like stand right there where she can't see and just let her walk out just to make sure like, "Hey, do you have an ID with you?" Huh? Do you have an ID with you? Did you drive here? Huh? Did you drive here? friend drove it. Your friend drove here? Yes. What's your first name? Shamika Wilson. Spell it. S H E M K A Wilson. W I L S O N. Don't turn it off. I'm sorry. Whoa. turn it off. Don't do that. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Yeah, I turned the vehicle off. We couldn't turn it off. Because we don't have the the key is in in the girl's pocket that the Don't worry about the car. Spell your last name again. Wilson. W I L S O N. What's your date of birth, miss? Go ahead. 12 02. 12 02 what? 19 You've been arrested before? Yes, I have. For what? It's been a long time since I've been in here before. For what? What do you mean for? I don't I don't understand it like So, you've been arrested. How old are you? I'm 30. Okay. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can or You listening? This is where I told you you need to listen. Can I see you? This is where I told you you need to listen. Huh? This is where I told you you need to listen. You're not going to get the benefit of the doubt. You need to listen to me cuz if you don't it's not going to work out. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can or will be Do you understand your rights? Yes. Having these rights in mind, do you want to talk to me about what's going on here tonight? I want to know what's going on. We were shopping. I had to go shopping for my baby for my baby milk. Okay. I I My friend was in there still paying for it and I came out here because the car was still running and I wanted to make sure the car was still okay. And she was in there paying for it. You walked in the business with your car still running? Yes, cuz I can't You know how cars get stolen, right? But I can't cut it off even though I didn't have the key. How was it running if you don't have the key? It's a push to start one. Yeah, but the key has to stay in the car for Yeah, but it didn't stay It was still in his pocket. Whose pocket? In my friend's pocket, my boyfriend's pocket. And where is he at? He's at He's at the house. Right. already in there. The car doesn't stay on unless the key is in the car. already in the middle of I was already in the middle of driving. It say no key like when you're driving. So, when you turn the car off, it's going to automatically just go off. Okay. Well, I guess we'll have to call your boyfriend to come bring the key. I mean, you just going to have to do that. That's why I came to the car and just started putting stuff in the car cuz she was saying I can't. So, whose merchandise is this? It's me and her. So, you're sharing? So, is she paying for all of it? Did you guys split the bill? We split our some some I sent somebody some cash out and split in the bill. So, you're paying her through Cash App and she's paying for everything inside? And and all that. All right. Well, I guess we'll find out. How was your day inside? How was your day? How's my day? It's been extremely busy. I had to chase a burglar. This is happening. Now I got the other the rest of my squad up there People in the I'm hoping this doesn't turn into anything. It's just a mistake. But the loss prevention officer said that you scanned items and didn't pay for them. Can I just sign it like You want to What's I'll sit you down in my car. No, I don't want to sit in the car. Well, I'll leave the door open. You can just keep your feet Can I stand like right there? How about this? You sit lean up against the wall near your car. How about that? Is she in there paying for all this stuff or what's going on? She was at the register. So. Um So, I'll just tell you the information I was told. So, their their loss prevention guy that works at Target that we work with all the time. He says we're selling in the store who has stolen from Target before. What they She does is scans stuff and then bags it and leaves and never pays for the stuff. I've been in Target a minute. So, over a minute ago, they remember you. So, then they're watching you and they're like, "Looks like she's doing the same thing she got arrested for last time." Well, that's what it looks like. You're bagging stuff up I'm not doing that. Well, what you're saying is completely different than the way pretty much everyone I know shops. Okay. Well, can you go get like I'm letting her finish her transaction. Because if she pays for everything without me talking to her, then we know that there's a good chance that she was reaching to call her and tell her, "Hey, tell the tell them to pay for all this stuff." Okay. You're not allowed to dig in your purse. Okay. Go ahead. What is it? So. Cuz if if she doesn't know the police are here with you and then she just on her own pays for everything, okay. Well, that's weird, but at least I go, "Maybe that was the plan." Lean up against your car for me. They do this all the time. Like I can pull up their case in the system. I talked to them. It was like Shakira. They've been apprehended at another store a couple months ago. They got like 15 counts. I don't think she was on it. We can look at it and see. Um but they do that all the time. They act like one's trying to pay and the other one walks out. But their case is like But then what happens? Does she then get in the car and they both leave with all the merchandise? Yeah, they were in it together, but it's just you can't really prove on our end that she didn't walk out with it based on what y'all able to do. You know, it's kind of I got you. Are you all done? I'm with your friend outside. Have you paid for everything yet? Okay. Are you still working on that? Okay. What's wrong? Um well, your friend walked out with hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise and didn't pay for any of it. I mean, that's what we're doing now. So, you're paying for what? Yes, that's what So, what I'm trying to figure out what's going on. How are you paying for all that stuff? With a card. What do you mean? You scanned clothing items? I was scanning everything. Okay. And she went over there And she went over there and scanned stuff. Okay. She didn't pay for any of it. She goes she didn't sleep. She didn't pay She didn't give anything to Target in exchange for hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise. She just walked out with it. Her story is that you're paying for all the stuff that she walked out with. Yes, she has her own card. I don't know Okay. So, she's supposed to pay for her stuff and you're supposed to pay for your stuff? Well, our clothes are together, but the baby formula, so that's Someone gave her a quick quick card to go into the store to get that, though. I don't know if they looked at the card or not. Are you paying for it? Or if you if if you are, then it's already scanned unless I'm misunderstanding. She's trying to pay for it, but the card recently hacked or something. Right. So, she's trying to get her friend's card And I literally started following her and you walked up to me. And you're telling me this and that's all this is like Right. What's going on? Well, what's going on is $1,400. Is any of that stuff still here? That's what I'm saying. All of it's in the car? It was never literally in the car. That's what I'm saying. Oh, it's in the car. No, it ain't. It's in the car. Okay. Well, she should be in here. Yeah. That's what I'm telling you. Maybe she should be, but she walked out with it all. That's what I'm saying. I don't know if they let her leave. That's what I do. Just just when it wasn't paid for. So basically, your friend walked out with $1,449.63. Oh, she has cuz we've arrested her before. So. So yeah, so I I got to go figure that stuff out. It's $1,400 worth of merchandise that was scanned that is not paid for. That guy looks like he needs deer in headlights. The cashier trying to help her. She's giving him a story that like my card got hacked or trying to get the payment through or something like that. Making it up. But I'm real close to believing that this is a ruse that she is also using. She's a suspect. I just got to the point to put her handcuffs yet, but um All right. Meanwhile, he's hanging out here in the sun. I'm going to drive over to you. So can I get on loose now like No. So I think you're probably going to jail today. How? I didn't You didn't pay for any of these items. Your friend has You have Your friend hasn't paid for them either. We tried to Our card didn't got Obviously, our card didn't got lost. It's Wilson. That's your name. Yes. You failed to understand what we explained to you. I she was paying for it. She didn't though. And she she told us she had no intention of paying for these items. She thought you were paying for them. That's what she just told us. Meaning you stole these items. I just got done chasing a burglar in French Town and then came here for this. That's why my pants are all dirty. My I've already heard I told her she's free to go. She wants to know other stuff. Shemika? Shemika Wilson. Is there an I in there somewhere cuz you spelled s h e m k a? That's That's Shemika Wilson. Is there an I in there? Huh? s h e m k a s s h a s h a s h a Shemika s h e m k a k a You don't have to spell your own name. So you're lying about your I'm not lying. I'm just acting like y'all So sounds like you're lying. No, I'm not. I know it is hot, Ms. Wilson. I'm in a full polyester uniform with a gun belt and a a vest on. Uh Trey, what's the last name? Or I'm sorry, the date of birth? 12 2 92 No, it ain't. Yeah, I didn't think so. What? Said your birthday is not 12 2 92. Yes, that is my one. Said it's not it's not. You got warrants or something? No, I don't. we're very good at our job, right? Like we ain't two-day rookies, right? All right. Should I just call you Jane Doe? Is that how you want me to call you Jane Doe? Shemika? Shemika? Is that your That's your name? Wilson? Shemika Wilson. Well, the way you spelled it is Shemika. I'm I'm aggravated. Like I'm just So when I look up just a a female with your date of birth with a last name that begins with W, there is zero. Look up this Look at Look up this name, Rebro. So here's the deal. This is how it works. Unbelievable. Stop! I got her, Rebro. I got her. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. That was ridiculous. What are you doing? This woman was a repeat scammer with outstanding warrants who even tried to frame her friend. She could be charged with faking identity, misdemeanor or felony, leading to fines, jail time or license suspension and shoplifting, misdemeanor under $1,000 or felony over $1,000 with possible prison time. As a repeat offender, she faces harsher penalties including longer sentences and higher fines. There she is right there walking across the parking lot. Come here. Put your stuff on the hood. A group of four shoplifters was caught pulling off a scam at a Walmart in Florida. They had a slick setup. One man handled the fraud, a woman stole the goods and two others waited outside ready to make a quick getaway. Everything was going smoothly until the cops showed up. Come on over here. Am I going to jail? Right now you're being detained, and we're just going to put you in the car cuz it's obviously super hot out here. And then we'll talk to you in a second. Sit down. This I don't I'm not from here either. What's your mom's name? Crystal. What is she wearing? All orange jeans. I don't know where the other people are cuz they were here with us and they just left. Okay. The cops had a tough time tracking down all four suspects inside the store. They managed to detain a 20-year-old woman and her mother was detained from inside the store, but here's what happened to the rest of the crew. If you want to go to jail for destruction of property I would stop. Do you understand me? Do you understand me? Do you understand me? Stop hitting my stuff. You're trying to send me to jail for what? Did I say you were going to jail? Did I say you were going to jail? Quit kicking my car. That's That's a quick way for you to go to jail. You damage anything in my car, you're going to go. I'm going to damage but I need some water. Did this lady come in? Yes. What? Um a couple minutes ago. Couple minutes ago? Yeah. Which way she go? I didn't see where she went. Did she go to the bathroom? I don't know if she went to the bathroom. She ordered food and then she sat there for a little bit and then We're still trying to figure out where she went. She disappeared. We do. So she was She ordered food. She was last seen sitting at one of the tables and then I'm not really sure where she went off to. Sheriff's office, come out. Hello. Come out. Are you going to arrest me right now? This is the sheriff's office. Come out now, please. Huh? Are you going to arrest me now? Any other else that was here? Any other people? You know what did I do, sir? Please tell me what I did though. But what did I do? BUT WHAT DID I DO? I didn't steal anything. I didn't do anything I didn't do anything, bro. What did I do? Take her out of the back of my vehicle or myself, then. Okay. Can I Can I use a phone to call my family? No. No. Hey, she was on the phone talking to a male. I didn't hear him saying there's going to be a black pilot here to pick her up. So, Wes, I don't know if you want to come over here. The other two might be pulling back up any minute. And she broke off the clothes that she was wearing into new clothes. You said one of these bags is No, but can I ask you a question? But what did I do? Okay, first of all, if you answer my simple question, then I'll answer yours. Where did you get that pink shirt from? My bro- in my friend's bag. Okay, so they're saying stuff over there. This this fine gentleman here is a representative of Walmart. He's saying that you were on stea- uh that this uh legally came from their store and was stolen. Well, I did not steal it. It was in my friend's bag. This is her bag. You can ask her. She's over there right now. What's your name? Gabrielle. Gabrielle? Oh, you're her daughter. Okay. What are you What are you all doing? I don't know what. Why are you here? I don't know. You don't know anything? Uh we we uh we we was at the hotel room and I just went with my mom and them because I woke up and I didn't want to be there by myself. We had the girl and her friend. She was just going to Walmart. I don't know what she be doing, but that has nothing to do with me. I don't know where they went. They just left us, too. That's why I was walking that way cuz I was trying to find my car because they were parked right there. It's um a gray gray car. Okay. What was the guy's name that you were with? The the black dude? Yep. Her. I don't even know. Whoever you were with. That girl's name is Christina. Okay. What was she wearing? She had like shorts on. Mhm. And she had a green shirt on. Okay. Well, we got her. So, where what's the dude's name? I don't know the dude's name, but I don't know where he be. And where's that at? Knights Inn. Huh? Knights Inn in Kissimmee. What are you guys doing down here? I don't know. I didn't even I don't even know where they went. Stop lying to me. Why are y'all in Kissimmee down? Because okay. They They do I don't know what she how she be doing it or whatever, but she goes she does this thing where she I don't know a receipt thing. And then I don't know where the dude uh the dude would go inside and I guess he would return something and she gets some money for it. So, like he steals something and returns it? Yeah. So, that's why y'all are here? No, me. I just wanted to ride with them cuz I didn't want to be there by myself outside. Cuz it's her room, but she don't want she won't let us sit in there or wait. You realize how many cameras are inside Walmart, right? So, you know, you guys stop lying to me or what? I know why you guys are here. Okay, I understand the little scheme that you guys are doing with the receipts and returning stuff. I'm not doing that. I didn't even go to the customer service. I don't I'm not even returning anything. for them? Or are you stealing stuff for yourself? Are you helping them out or are you stealing for yourself? Cuz the way it looks to me is that you guys are stealing for them and then breaking off money for each other. I don't even have money. Yeah, I get that because he's gone with all the money and you guys are all stuck here. They didn't give us no money. But that's what's happening. Her So, you guys came here to steal for them to return the stuff and get money. No, I didn't steal anything for them to return. I didn't say you did. I'm saying that's the purpose of you guys coming here. Yeah, but I don't I'm not the one who steals and I haven't returned anything. I just wanted to ride with them. I was just honest with you. I told you what she did. That's what she does. Obviously, I know what she does because I'm in the car with her. what she does, too. She's going to jail for it. I'm not stealing I'm not stealing for them and I'm not returning anything. I don't even I saw you doing something. What? The man managed to escape, but in the end, all four suspects were hit with felony theft charges. The real tragedy, though, goes beyond the crime itself. A mother dragging her own daughter into a life of crime instead of pushing her toward education and a better future. It's a sad reminder of how bad choices can have lasting effects and why it's so important to steer the next generation in the right direction. All right. Thanks. Yeah, so I mean, you essentially know what I know right now. I mean, there's a deputy there that has confirmed it um and they're trying to get all the details hashed out, but um they provided a very clear description of the vehicle which matches this description and almost an identical tag number, so you know, just uh hang out, okay? You don't have any weapons in the vehicle or anything? Okay. All right, I'll be right back. So, where are you heading to tonight? Where? Interlachen? Okay. What brings you to Palm Coast? Just driving through. From Edgewater? Just driving through from Edgewater? Okay. What takes you out to Interlachen? I'm staying there with my daughter cuz she's divorced. You got divorced? And my mother has a lake house there. Okay. You have the witnesses respond or show up or So, um so, do you live in Edgewater? Kind of, yeah. And I have a storage unit in Edgewater. You have a storage unit out there? Yeah, like I'm kind of taking all my stuff to my mom or to the lake house right now cuz it's too much for me. Okay. Uh just north of West 100 on uh US1. Yeah. All right, just hang tight for a couple minutes. We're just kind of trying to figure out what's going I just rolled up so I don't, you know, I'm just here standing by for safety. I don't really know a whole lot what's going on, so. Okay. You don't know what happened? What happened? Did you make any stops when you got off the highway? Um yeah. Where'd you stop? Target. You stopped at Target? I don't know if nobody took anything. So, what would you get at Target? Nothing. You didn't buy anything? No? Okay. Um she's got a bunch of Legos in the back of this truck, so it's possible that we could have more than one shoplifter incident from another location. How come you stopped at Target? Just just to shop because I like I buy and sell Legos. You buy and sell Legos? So, you were shopping, but you didn't get anything? end up getting anything. You didn't get anything? No? Okay. they just didn't have what you were looking for? This woman in Florida was arrested for stealing seven boxes of Lego sets worth over $1,000. In a desperate attempt to escape, she even broke her own car window, but her luck ran out when the cops caught up with her. She I mean, she passed all lines of sale outside. They recovered it outside the store. You know, she's got a bunch of Lego boxes uh with seller's Legos and all that. I mean, I can see in the back. It's possible that according to the store, they're saying that um she's been hitting other stores in the state. I'm going to grab some water, okay? Okay. Any weapons in the car? No. Did you just get that? No. No? I got this since yesterday. You what? I got this since yesterday. You got it since yesterday? I know that's the Target brand, Good & Gather. That's where I do all my shopping, too. I like that product there. It's good. I'm going to have her step up, please. She don't need to be driving away. I'm going to step up. All right, ma'am. I'm just going to have you step out of the car for me, okay? You can just leave that right on the center console for now. And you can put your phone down just so you don't drop it or anything. You can just leave it on the seat. Okay, you just hang tight right against the car here. Right here. Okay. You can just lean right against the car. Is the car on? I think so. Okay, do you mind if I go turn it off real quick and then leave the key on the dash? We just don't want it running off on us. Yeah, we're just waiting for Rex to arrive or something. Who is Rex? Uh he's just waiting on one of our other partners. All right, just real quick just because there's a lot of cops here, you know, you're on the car, we're standing by. I'm just going to read you your rights real quick, okay? You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say may be used as evidence against you. You have the right to talk to an attorney and have him and her with you at any time during questioning. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed to represent you. If at any time you wish to stop talking and have an attorney present, all questioning will be stopped at your request. Do you understand these rights? All right. So, cuz before I was asking you if you had any kind of narcotics on you. Just checking. Do you mind if my partner looks? No. No. All right. So, we'll continue the search. You got anything? Would you mind just going to the back of his vehicle so that way we're not as close to traffic? And so you are aware that thing is sharp, so I don't want you getting hurt. Okay. All right. Be careful with your hands. Yeah. Looks like you. The wallet. We're going to do a show up and uh the deputy's going to bring by the witness that we have and they're going to say whether or not that they what whatever they observed was uh you or not. I didn't take anything from there. Well, I mean uh according to them, past all lines of sale, got out of the store, and they recovered the property outside the outside the uh doors. That is not outside the doors. I can see it. All right. Sounds to me that you have kind of an issue with this stuff, you know, and maybe you should get some help. You know? Cuz this isn't the way to be. I'm having a rough time right now, honestly. Like I'm going through the worst months of the year and I have a Yeah. And I'm sorry. So, people who are shoplifting are they doing it for the thrill or were they're on hard times? That too. But, you know, uh it may seem like not a big deal to you, but the the those big corporations, they just write it off and they end up raising the prices of everything else. So, the people who work their butt off to pay for stuff, I end up having to pay more for stuff like that. You know what I mean? My shoplifting bill or shop shopping bill is more because of theft. I don't think it's fair, you know? The woman was arrested for theft, but what made it even more interesting was that she also had rolls of Walmart and Target bags along with really expensive shoes. There haven't been many updates on her case yet, but judging by how she was caught, it's safe to say she faced some huge fines. That's how that figured it out. Figured it But, the alarm canceled on me. Uh it's all figured out now. Huh? Yeah, I got it figured out now. This woman had been caught shoplifting multiple times, but this time she was caught in the act and handed over to the police. In the US, shoplifting is illegal and penalties vary by state, ranging from fines to jail time, depending on the value of stolen goods and prior offenses. So, we got a couple shoplifters here. Both He didn't have to struggle all on me. HE DIDN'T HAVE TO DO all that. Where do you want to go? Can you go Can you come to the office with us, too? No, we can talk out here. The police here. Can we talk out here? How about they go and we talk? Okay, go. Okay, I'll be waiting right here. I'll come talk to you guys in a minute. You was with him? Okay. He was with him.
