Do you know who these people are? No. >> Do you know what happened to them? >> This is 34year-old Gene Robert Misan who just a few days ago slit the throats of two innocent strangers without a second thought. >> Both of their necks are slit. >> And then he acted like their ending had been decided long before today. >> I wish I tested myself ahead of time, >> right? >> Cuz I've seen this happen before. >> I wanted to leave the bike or sometimes pull it. >> Mhm. >> I kept going drinking. just just kept going in the water. >> But when he realized his plan wouldn't work out, everything began to fall apart. >> Stay dropping more stuff on me. Like more stuff he had on my hands, my head. >> On the 6th of March, 2022, the Daytona Beach Police Department responded to a disturbing call from the intersection of North Wild Olive Avenue and Riverview Boulevard regarding a tragic accident. >> Neither one of them are moving. There's a puddle of blood. >> Do you see like a motorcycle? >> There is no There is no No, it's two there. There were there are two bicycles next to them. >> But when cops arrived at scene, what they found was far beyond anything they expected. >> No pulse. Two victims. And I do not think this is going to be a crash. >> Everybody, >> watch where you're walking. Yeah, I am. Okay. >> They didn't get hit by a car. Who is letting people come into this crime scene? I don't understand. >> At the curb, please stop traffic. >> I need somebody to knock on that door and get them to shut their sprinklers off. >> What? >> Both of their necks are slit. >> Fantastic. >> What? >> They want to put a a blanket on her. It's dark as over here. The less we do, the less the less we do. That's what I told. Nobody. All of EMS can go. >> Their necks are slit. Their necks are slit. >> Suicide kind of thing or >> No, their necks are slit. >> The couple identified as 48-year-old Terry Alman and 55-year-old Brenda Alman were lying in a pool of blood. The couple had just finished a night out riding their bikes home after enjoying the excitement of the Bike Week festival. But their joyful ride home turned into their final journey. someone had waited for them and struck with unthinkable brutality. The condition of the victims and the surrounding circumstances suggested that it was not an accident, but the result of someone's deliberate actions. So, investigators immediately began collecting evidence, hoping to find answers to their unanswered questions. >> Murder. >> Was it >> murder? >> They're both their necks are slick. Give me a second to contain it before y'all walk up in there, please. Thank you. Thank you. >> According to police reports, their bodies were dragged across the sidewalk and placed deliberately in the front yard of a nearby home. Who would do something like this and why? Detectives knew one thing for certain. This was coldblooded murder. The crime scene offered no obvious clues, no weapon, no witnesses. But then one piece of grainy surveillance footage from a nearby camera flipped the entire case upside down. A man appeared walking near the scene with what looked like blood on his pants. Instantly, he became the prime suspect. But this vague image alone was not enough to find him. So investigators tracked his movements through more surveillance footage, which showed him entering a Johnny Rockets restaurant where he made a purchase with a credit card. That small transaction would break the case wide open. Within hours, they had his name. Now, every law enforcement agency in the region was on high alert, and a $50,000 reward was offered for any tip that could bring him down. A task force comprising members of the United States Marshall's Service, the Orange County Sheriff's Office, and the Orlando Police Department was formed to locate him. 4 days later, the hunt ended in Orange County, Florida, where police finally found him at an apartment complex. >> We're going to get you out of here soon, man. You doing all right? >> You sure? You look a little stressed out. I mean, rightfully so, but >> I'll just look at my brother seeing me and here's this. >> You don't like that? No, I got you. I wouldn't want to I wouldn't want my brother seeing me in the situation either. You know what I mean? Um, cuffs are okay. They're not too tight or anything like that. >> I just feel like I'm in a box. >> The suspect was identified as 34year-old Gene Robert Msian. He was cooperative, so officers began questioning him in hope he might confess before being placed in the interrogation room. Have you left Orlando in the past few days at all? >> Past few days I was at the beach on Sunday. >> Where where out on the beach? >> Daytona. >> Okay. >> He admitted that he had been in Daytona Beach. An admission that placed him near the crime scene, but as the questioning continued, his responses began to feel scripted. >> All right. So, you went out to the beach on Sunday. Um, do you know what you did there? Do you remember where you went or anything? >> No, just the beach. >> Just the beach and nowhere else. >> So, tell walk me through your day on Sunday. How exactly it all happened? >> Me, my cousin. >> Okay. >> I said I was like, >> it's just the Yeah, he said the tone. I was like, >> right. >> Although the rest of his account did not align with the evidence. Detectives knew how to break through his false facade. They just needed to push in the right direction. >> You got to be honest with me here, man. I mean, that's the only way you're going to help yourself out. Okay? You got to be okay. Um, we know what happened. >> Okay. >> You know what happened? You were there. >> I was there. >> Right. In Daytona Beach. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> What about when he said I know what happened when I was there >> when you were there? I mean, we know we know everything that happened. Obviously, we came out here for a reason. You know, it's not by mistake. Okay. There's a reason why we contact we're contacting you out here. Um, and that's pretty much it. And we just need to know exactly we're we're past who did it. We're past uh how it happened. It's we know we know what happened. You know what I mean? But we need to know exactly why it happened now at this point. You see what I mean? So just keep that in mind. All right. Don't lie. Don't lie and don't back yourself into a corner. >> All right. >> So you went to the beach with your cousins and everything or you said who was it? Your cousin. >> Okay. So from there you went to the beach and where did you guys stay out there in a hotel or anything? >> Nothing with the beach from straight back. >> So okay, gotcha. So did you go anywhere else other than the beach? So when you drove into town, you went straight to the beach and then and then you went straight on. >> Yeah. Like a little like a little day like no family just to >> The suspect stood firm in his story, giving no additional clues. So detectives changed their approach and presented him with evidence that he could not deny. >> What if I told you that I know that you didn't just go to the beach? >> We know you didn't just go to the beach. >> Okay. We we have proof that you didn't go to the beach. Okay. and you need to come out and you need to be honest with it because right now you're lying and what you're doing is you're backing yourself into a corner. You see what I'm saying? >> We know that you need to go to the beach. We know you went other places other than the beach. Okay? You know that, right? So, anytime you go anywhere, anywhere, especially in cities like Daytona Beach and everywhere else, there's cameras everywhere you go. You understand that, right? There's people's Ring cameras, there's doorbell cameras, there's surveillance cameras. Um, there's tons and tons of cameras like all over the place. All right. So, you need to keep that in mind as we continue. Okay. So, >> can you tell me what you did after you went to the beach? >> Did you go out walking around or anything like that? >> No. >> You never did? >> Okay. >> I I went out around the the beach. Can you tell me why this happened? >> I don't remember nothing. I just went to the beach. >> You just went to the beach? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> All right. >> Fair enough. Just went to the beach and then you just went home. Okay. >> We just had a little while. >> Okay. >> Just to the beach and just went home and just walking up and down the beach. All right. Well, I'm going to tell you this. Um, [Music] we know you need to go to the beach. We know we have a lot of information. with a lot of evidence that you weren't just on the beach that you were in a lot of other places other than the beach. >> That's you. >> We know where you are. >> Listen, man. >> You got to be honest with me. Okay. [Music] If Think about this. If we have a picture of you right up front like that, imagine what else do we have. [Music] I tell you what I'm going to do, man. I'm going to step away for a minute. I want you to sit here and think about everything for a second. Okay? >> I need you number. >> Okay. Well, if that's the if that's the case, then that's the case. >> You were drinking. All right. So, you were drinking. So, what happened, man? You got to just tell me what happened. >> You don't know. He might have sensed that the detectives had uncovered evidence, too solid to be challenged in court. So, he changed the tactics and acted as though he had been drunk and had no memory of what happened. Detective now felt he wouldn't be easy to crack. So, they escorted him to the interrogation room to uncover the truth behind his lies. >> I'm going to show you something like that that bottle. I used that bottle. I never drank it all by myself. That that that's a puzzle because I never drank that whole bottle before. The bottle is strong. >> Jean, >> that's the reason why I said it's puzzling me because that's the first time I drank the whole bottle. And if I did, I mean, >> Jean, I'm telling >> Listen to me. >> I'm going to show you something right now, okay? And I want you to really think about this right now. >> You see these people? >> If you show me Do you know who that is? If you show me these people, >> do you know who these people are, Jean? >> No. >> Well, if you show him, >> do you know who these people are? >> No. >> Do you know what happened to them? You're >> He denied every piece of evidence that detectives laid before him. But then came the photo, the one that showed blood from the victims on his clothes. Suddenly, the man who had answers for everything went silent. Do you see this? That's This is you. We know this is you. >> Okay. >> Do you think that Do you think that's you? Do you Is that you? >> Yes, >> of course it is. Where's Where's your pants and and boots at that you got rid of? Where are they? Cuz you woke up with them. >> That's what I'm saying. >> Where are they? Where are they? >> I don't know. Did it when you woke up from this trance, >> did you realize that you had blood all over you? >> No, I just woke up. >> What did you What did you do? What What What did you think when you had all this blood in your pants? >> No, no, no. For real. I just like I It's like you just woke up and just woke up. You just see what you have on you and just find out that where you at and you just make a call. >> Where did you You said you didn't stay anywhere. >> I didn't. >> I know. You made a phone call. >> Yeah. >> What was the person's name that you called? And who's next after you? That's my cousin. >> Is that a female or male? >> That's a female. >> Okay. Do you know this phone number? >> Okay. Yeah. >> Okay. And you called her what time? >> I don't remember exactly. >> Well, you woke up out of the trance. So, was it night time or was it daytime? >> When I woke up, it was morning. >> It was morning. Was it sun? Was it sun out? Yes. >> Where were you at? Where did you How did you know? How did she know how to get to you? I >> got a call. >> Yeah, but how did you know where you were? >> I look around, you know, just >> Where were you at? >> Especially I used the GPS. >> Where Where were you? >> I don't know exactly where I was at. >> Were you at a store? >> No, I was outside. >> I know. But were you near a store? Were you on the beach? >> No, I was just outside by um by a store, but I don't know what type of store. >> You're lying. I just >> You're lying. And you know what? >> Because I heard the same too much about your emotions, your real emotions that like I didn't know none of that. Like I just woke up. I had a mission to go to the beach, relax, and then come back and everything else just happened because I was drinking too much then because that's all I could remember. >> I tell you what, a lot Everybody drinks too much. Everyone get >> I drink too much. >> Listen to me. Everybody Everybody's been there before. You and I both know I've drank too much before. He's drank too much before. Everybody in this room has probably had a little bit too much to drink, but they don't go out and they don't kill people >> emotionally. It must have been a moose because I never been emotional on drinking. >> It must have been emotion that made you kill Brenda and Terry. >> Brenda Terry, >> what happened? You need to tell us right now what happened. Otherwise, >> I remember I was in the beach and I kept drinking so much. >> No. >> Detectives kept pressing, asking question after question. He seemed to have an answer for everything. But as the hours passed with no breakthrough, they changed their approach. They stepped back and left him alone with his thoughts. The silence, the pressure, it was suffocating. And then he slipped. He muttered something quiet but revealing. A single slip of the tongue would turn the case upside down. >> What did I do with it? Got me more stress, bro. This life just kept dropping more stuff in my lap, man. Stay dropping more stuff on me. Like more stuff happening on my hands. My hands. I should know. >> Hearing that, detectives knew it was the perfect time to push for a confession. So, one detective immediately resumed questioning before the suspect could shut down again. >> You should just stay with you. You can't sit in here and say, "You should have done this. You should have done that." >> I'm wor. >> You can't though, right? >> Yeah. It's just something that's where corporate comes. >> No, you can't just pass up like that. I mean, yeah, you're saying you shouldn't say it out loud, but that's that's the start of it right there. You should say it out loud. You need to say these things out loud. You know what I mean? >> I should have like listened to my song to like like whatever was pulling me. >> Yeah. >> Because I could have like something to like I wanted to leave the bike but something was pulling me. >> Mhm. >> But I kept going training and just just kept going but I don't know why. >> Yeah. >> I know. So I just lost I know you did. I know you did. And you know what happened? It's understandable. It is understandable. Do you see what I'm saying? That felt good to get it out. You did just lose a little bit, but you know what? >> No, I can't say that, man. Look at the people, man. >> What people? >> Those people you just show me. Finally, the detectives obtained a confession. He admitted to committing the crime, but many questions still remained. How and why did he do it? The truth had emerged, but the mystery wasn't over yet. >> So, tell me, what were you thinking? Like, you so you so I know that you guys pass by each other, right? They're walking one way, you're walking another, but then you turn around and then you follow after them and you catch up to them. So, tell me after that, what happened? So let me well let me ask you this. So you I caught up to them. >> So when you caught up to them, what happened? Did you remember something they said to you or something like that? They >> said nothing to me. >> No, I'm trying to say if they did something because I was ready. I felt like I was ready. The mindset. >> Yeah. Well, you were probably a little upset already. >> Never mind. I was like something was feeding me with something. >> Right. Well, I can tell you this that alcohol is in small, you know, when you do it every once in a while. So, I don't know how much you drink. I mean, I see the liquor bottles everywhere, >> right? You know what I mean? Like it >> talk a percentage. >> Yeah. So, let me ask you something. So, when you caught up to him, how did it all happen? Like when you caught up to him, did you catch up to him or did you catch up to her first? >> No. Okay. So, you were angry and then you started walking after them and then did you already have the knife in your hand or did you take it out once you got there? >> Yeah. >> What's that? >> Knife. That guy took it out. >> So, you took it out as you were walking towards him. >> Okay. All right. Um, >> that's a shame. >> That is a shame. But you know what? You're doing the right thing right now. You are. your action. >> It's your action. No, you can't get fixated on that. It is your action. It was your actions, but you don't, like you said, you lost control. Did you maybe hit him first and then once he fell down, then you started attacking her? Or do you think that um did you push him? Did you hit him? Did you maybe maybe you maybe you started attacking him first? He fell. >> Do you remember how he fell? >> He was drunk, too. >> Okay. So, he was So, he kind of stumbled and fell down. Um, was he saying anything when this was happening or was she saying anything? >> Okay. Do you remember where So, when you were when you were using your knife, do you remember how you were using it? Like, >> okay. It's like like a swap in and out like a bullet chunk instead of pressing out in and out. >> Right. So you did it as quickly as you could like. So once you said you said you attacked her first and then how were you attacking him? It's like got bomb rushed. >> Mhm. So was he standing up at that point? No. So you bumr rushed him and then once you got to him, what happened? Some heavy stuff. >> Heavy stuff. >> Yeah. After that. >> Okay. >> And I kept I just kept going. >> Okay. Um has this kind of thing ever happened before? >> What? What the >> like do you remember? Do you ever do stuff like this and then like like oh go I lost control. >> That's what I'm saying. >> Yeah. >> That's because I test myself ahead of time, >> right? >> Cuz I've seen this happen before. Yeah. Okay. >> Never happened to me. It's like that's rubbish. >> Yeah. Rubbish. I like that. >> There was no known connection between the suspect and the victims and no clear motive. It was later declared a random act. He was initially charged with two counts of first-degree murder. Later, he entered a no contest plea. As part of a plea agreement, he received a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
