Do you have a key? >> That's where they are. >> Hey, that he said that's where they are. You'll want to go through this store. >> Police had just arrived at a house to investigate reports of a welfare check. Initially, it seemed like just another routine call with nothing unusual, but officers were unaware of what they were about to uncover. >> It's You can't go through that door. They're They're right They're right here inside the door. What happened inside that home would leave the entire neighborhood shaken. >> So, you can see with the old man, he was stabbed in the belly and his head hit that one table, cracking his skull open. I can't see where the female how she died. >> I assume she has a bunch of cuts everywhere, but that knife is still in the guy's gut. >> Yeah, I saw that. >> And his head's cracked open from that uh desk. >> As the investigation progressed, disturbing clues began to point to a mysterious stranger who may have been behind her strange and unsettling behavior. people that I showed you those pictures of your dad. What makes you look foolish is when you say that's not you. >> You're smart. You're smart as well. I'm telling you this is the thing. I I just want you to all the stuff you're saying makes sense. But when when Sergeant got you right here, >> you didn't think it was a little strange that somebody gave you a car? >> Yeah. >> Okay. or somebody gave me a car. >> You're just saying, "No, that's not me." But any person, a child could look at this. >> On Saturday the 31st of December, 2022, Mount Dora police were called to the Waterman Retirement Community at 445 Waterman Avenue, Mount Dora, Florida, regarding a suspicious scene involving a retired couple. Officers were quickly dispatched to the scene, not knowing what started as a call for a welfare check quickly escalated into something far more sinister. Well, you might want to go through this. That's where they are. >> Hey, that he said that's where they are. You'll want to go through this store. >> Oh, we got to make entry that back. >> Yeah, >> go ahead. >> It's You can't go through that door. They're They're right They're right here inside the door. Officers arrived at the scene and found 83-year-old Daryl Gman and his wife, 80-year-old Sharon Getman, lying in the entryway of the home and surrounded by a large amount of blood and towels. According to autopsy report, Daryl Getman suffered severe head and facial trauma, and detectives said he was found with a large butcher knife lodged in his stomach. Further evidence at the scene included suspicious footprints and an apparent attempt by the perpetrator to clean up in the guest bathroom, where investigators found a damp cloth and traces of hair not matching the victims. It's very odd. >> Yes. >> The way this the the >> the bodies are. >> Yeah. >> And so you can see with the old man, he was stabbed in the belly and his head hit that one table, cracking his skull open. I can't see where the female how she died. >> I assume she has a bunch of cuts everywhere, but that knife is still in the guy's gut. >> Yeah, I saw that. >> And his head's cracked open from that uh desk. >> Considering the condition of their bodies, officers realized this was not a case of suicide or natural death. Clearly, someone had committed this act, but they needed to figure out who was involved. So, they began interviewing neighbors in hopes of uncovering any leads. >> So, I'm interested in knowing what the neighbors heard. >> What? >> They got neighbors. >> Yeah. They're going to want to interview everybody. >> I don't I think this is just a five. >> Oh, yeah. >> There's no 37 involved. Do you have your ID on you? Your driver's license or just so you can So what h what what uh what were you coming over for? >> This neighbor here >> was concerned about him and asked me to check out the garage door when I went in there >> because the garage door was open. >> Okay. When I went to go get >> You don't have to take it out. >> 73 my door 6527 for a complaint. >> Okay. Do you know what time you got here or roughly? Oh man, you can wait over there. Please. >> I know. I know. We'll get with you in a second, but please just wait over there. Okay. >> Okay. >> I know. I know. Just wait. Please wait over there. Okay. >> She said she woke up at 6:00 this morning, looked out, saw that the garage door was open and thought that was weird. She waited until 1:00, 2:00, and then she still said, "Okay, garage door's open. That's weird." She came over here just before she called and I guess got in contact with them and they came too. She came over here, knocked, nobody answered. She was going to try to put the garage door down and run out, but she couldn't figure out how to do it. So, the garage door has been open like that since at least six bucks for it. >> Yeah, she's going to get >> Yeah, she is. I'm I'm getting one for her. But whatever happened likely happened last night. A concerned neighbor noticed the garage door was open at 6:00 a.m. and again around 2 p.m. she saw the door was still open. Finding this odd, she went to check the house and tried to close the garage door, but could not. There were no strong clues at the scene except for some stained clothes believed to belong to the suspect and a few shoe impressions on the floor. However, that wasn't enough to catch the suspect. They needed something more to track the killer down. Then finally, they discovered something unusual that could lead them to the suspect. >> The stop. I think usually it's cuz you're driving something else. So, is there is there a car? >> I bet you there's not. >> 73 Mount. Do they have any vehicles registered to them? >> See if they can check David. >> So, where's the car at? >> Where are their children? >> Yeah. 26. 10. Are you 26 on that? >> They have they have a green tea registered to them. They're tired. One officer noticed a vehicle in the garage that wasn't registered to the victims. After quickly checking records, they learned the couple owned a green Kia Soul, which was now missing. The next step was clear. Locate their car, which could lead them to the mysterious person involved. >> Do you have other security that are working right now? >> They got the 28 dispatch. >> Okay. Can you see if any of them check the parking lot and make sure that there's not a green key? Was it 2019? Their car was also missing from the parking lot, prompting authorities to issue an alert immediately. Every law enforcement network was notified to watch for the missing vehicle. And just 2 days later, they tracked the green Kia Soul using license plate readers. It was discovered at the Amtrak train station in Savannah, Georgia. Officers were immediately sent to the location to investigate and secure the vehicle. Straight ahead. Straight ahead. Get out. Driver, exit the vehicle. Huh? In the car. >> Get out of the car. >> Mike doesn't work. Get out of the car. Get out of the car. >> All right. She's out. Hands on the roof. Hands on the roof. Keep your hands on the roof and don't move. Keep your hands on the roof and don't move. >> You good? >> Yeah. Keep your hands behind your back. We'll explain it to you in a minute. >> Inside, they found a woman, 51-year-old Vicky Williams, occupying the victim's car. She was arrested and brought in for questioning. >> So, um, can you can you tell me anything about the car if you [Applause] don't have that? >> Well, I mean, I um Well, I didn't know it was stolen. I mean, how the only one on the planet that has received a stolen property >> right in your life. Yes, ma'am. I agree with that. Um, you have >> I just didn't know that it was stolen. >> So, now we just want to talk about that car. That's all. That's all we need to talk about. >> Yeah, that's covers up. >> Okay. It's easy as that. >> Okay. >> Okay. I'm not I'm not here to, you know, be nasty to you. I'm here talking about that car. Where that car comes from? >> Here in Savannah, for all I know. >> Okay. So, that's where you got that car is in Savannah. >> Okay. >> The guy told me that he had a spare car for me to use because I've been walking and my feet had, you know, got scaly at the bottom and I've been tired and they wanted me to sleep in the car. >> Okay. So, have you been driving the car? Yeah. Okay. >> She claimed that a man gave her the car because she was homeless and tired from walking. This made detectives suspicious who gives away a car for free with no questions asked. This was the first suspicious statement that pushed officers to dig deeper into the case. >> So, um, you didn't think it was a little strange that somebody gave you a car? >> Wish somebody gave me a car. >> Somebody gives me a car. Man, you're a lucky lady. If somebody just handed you keys to the car, you know, that's that's good luck right there. I'm still paying for mine and said 2013. Um, but so this man, do you know him? >> I do know him. And uh he told me that uh not to give us information, but I'm going to go ahead and do it. What part of town were you were you in that night? >> Downtown. >> Downtown. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Gotcha. What was Tell me what was going on downtown that night. >> Just a quiet night downtown. >> Mhm. >> Okay. >> That Saturday? >> Yeah. I was downtown. >> Oh, you? >> Yeah. I was downtown on Saturday. There's a lot of people. A lot of fireworks. You sure you were downtown? >> I went downtown in the daytime. I wasn't downtown at night. >> Well, where were you that night? [Applause] walking around but >> not downtown. >> Oh, so well you just said you were downtown a minute ago. I just didn't know. >> I was downtown to get coffee but not in the morning. I mean not at night in the morning >> but after that I just was walking around. >> She initially claimed she was downtown that night but later denied being there. This conflicting statement further raised the detective suspicions but it is only the beginning of a series of lies. Just to I guess clarify some more stuff with the car with you. The reason Florida's here uh is because the car itself was taken during an incident from crime scene. To give you a little better understanding, >> I thought it was stolen. So that's the only thing that I have with that. >> Yeah, stolen. So >> she first claimed she had no idea the car was stolen, but later confessed she did know, but her next statements made officers feel something else was off. The kind of shoes I'm sorry, just to back up one second. The kind of shoes you said were in the photo, are those the same Puma shoes that you had? >> I seen two pair of sneakers and I'm sorry. >> And the Puma that I have was given to me because my my all my clothes are sold. I only have one pair of clothes. >> Oh, that one didn't have the sneakers on. That one right there. >> Yeah. >> Okay. You recognize any of the jewelry or anything? >> Rings on the finger, earrings, things like that. >> I mean, I came with this. I mean, this is my stuff. >> Okay. Okay. Um, >> there's nothing in the photo that I see. That's on me. >> Yeah. But those look like the same brand of shoes as yours, I guess, is what I'm saying. That's what you mentioned earlier. Obviously, they make, you know, several >> pairs. identif they look like those. >> They're pink slides. I don't know what kind of slides those are. >> Oh, those are white. The ones you had on were white this morning. >> Yes. >> But they I guess like you said, they kind of look like the same brand. >> Okay. But that's not me. But that's what you're asking. >> Detectives showed her surveillance photos from a nearby area in which she was seen wearing white Puma slides. These were the same slides she was wearing at the time of her arrest and matched the shoe prints found at the scene of the incident. Despite the evidence, she still refused to confess. Then came the turning point. Investigators confronted her with another piece of solid evidence, placing her near the scene of the crime. >> Okay. Um I just know you said you weren't really sure where you were Thursday or you knew you were in Savannah but couldn't really remember. >> I was in Georgia. Yes. >> Okay. And I just wanted to make sure like you said in this time that you're walking, you didn't sleep. You said for 24 hours. I think that's what you told me one night. >> I was I own a business so I have to do things. >> Business. >> Yeah. >> What? What business? >> My business. >> Okay. Um and and I get it. You're busy. You're up for 24 hours. Again, I just wanted to to see if there was anything like I cuz again, you don't sleep. >> I'm homeless. Doesn't mean that I don't have a life. >> I agree. But what I'm getting at is I wanted to make sure there wasn't any times that you had forgot where you were. Well, no, that wasn't it. It wasn't it. I mean, I just met you. I had a business to I have a business to run. >> Okay. >> I'm also a real estate agent, so that's why I was up. I was taking care of some business. >> Gotcha. Gotcha. On Thursday and Friday. >> And prior to that? >> Prior to Okay. And any of that business that you're doing with real estate, does that take you into Florida or other places? >> No. >> Nothing like that? >> No. Okay. Uh I'm I'm going to be honest with you. I mean, this this picture looks like you. >> Yeah. They see all white people look alike. >> Not not not at all. I've been I've been in the cities. >> I'm just saying. >> Listen, I've been in cities a long time and you see all kind of different people and and I don't think all white people look alike, but >> that's nice. >> But what I'm getting at is is this this picture looks like you. Especially, you know, you don't have the wig on. And like I said, I'm working through different things, right? Like I told you, I was going to look at different cameras from different hotels and all kind of different stuff. Doesn't help me when you're saying, "Oh, I mean, you know, but if if I can find stuff that I'm looking for, right, cuz you told me you went got coffee. You told me you were crossing the bus station." All that kind of stuff. That's what I'm trying to figure out. Do you want to take another look at the photo? >> I said no. I mean, not no to the photo, but I'm saying no, that's not me. Police records showed she was spotted wandering the retirement community multiple times between the 30th of December and 31. She denied that the photo shown to her was of herself despite being an exact match. Her own mother and son later confirmed it was her in the surveillance images taken near the victim's home. Her connection was growing stronger as investigation proceed. >> I mean, can you think back? Is there something that you may run into and you just don't recall at the moment? I used to work in the medical field and um I'm wondering if that could be one of my patients from long time ago. It looks like her. >> What about that John? >> I don't remember him though, but her face looks I guess because she's in here. >> Yeah, >> but there's never time. I mean, is there could I have run into him somewhere at all? >> Mhm. >> Ask him for anything? Nothing? >> Neither one. No. >> What? On what medical field? >> Wait a minute. I seen him at U when I was sitting there. >> Come on. Really? >> Yeah. >> Well, tell me about it. >> He just was sitting there with his wife, but it wasn't the lady that was there. It was another woman. Yeah. Um, >> you sure was that guy? >> Yeah. >> Tell me about like what drew them to you. >> We said happy new year to one another. All of us at the table. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. I started the conversation. I said, "Happy New Year." Y'all sat it back and I sat across from him and we just glanced at each other every now and then while we were eating and looked like they were enjoying the food. Do >> you ever think you'd see a photo of them again? Gotcha. What uh when you saw him, do you remember what he was wearing? I don't I don't I know he had on something similar to this, like clean cut, like a polo shirt, you know, but up >> in a pair of slacks, but I don't remember what color. >> Okay. >> I was on my phone that day, so you were on your phone. >> She stated that on New Year's Eve, she saw Sharon Getman, but didn't notice the victims clearly because she was on the phone. But earlier, she had said her phone was stolen, and she quickly changed her story again, trying to cover up her previous lie. >> You told me earlier that your phone was taken Thursday or Friday. >> Yeah, but I I have access to other people's phones. Oh, >> where's that phone? >> I gave it back. >> Who did you give it back to? >> A friend. Who was that? >> Come on now, please. >> No, I need you to come on now. >> What do you mean? >> Cuz you just kind of jump around with me like listen like >> I've never seen this guy before. That's the point. I've never >> seen this guy until I I don't even know if this the same guy. People looks familiar. That could be the same woman that you showed. >> Yeah. Well, you were you were talking about the phone and that's what I was trying to figure out cuz you said you're on the phone. >> I didn't talk to this man. When logic failed to sway her, investigators changed their approach, turning to emotional tactics, hoping the weight of guilt would finally crack her facade and force the truth into the light. >> The the thing about the photos and and again, we're we're trying to figure this out with with honesty, right? And this is this is the time to be honest, okay? And and Sergeant is ready to listen to you about you finally being honest. And that's that's what we're looking for, okay? I'm telling you that's what we're looking for. This is you in the photo. You know it. I know it. God knows. >> Okay. >> You say that >> it it is. >> Well, I say something different. No. >> Well, hear me out. Okay. The people that I showed you, those pictures of your dad. I think that's why you recognize that photo come up. And this is the thing. >> Why would I see him at turn around and see him at Florida and I wasn't even there. >> I think you The thing is you were >> Well, I'm sorry, sir. If you're still tagging and pulling on this, >> yes, Chris, no. I'm sorry. And I'm not going to say anything else. You're talking to yourself at this point. >> Okay. I mean, just if you don't have to explain, help help her understand why this photo of you is. You don't have to tell me. I I'll I'll I'll bow out. But you got to you got to you got to help her understand you. I mean, you're right there. >> Help her understand what >> Oh, why you're in this photo. Why you're in the surveillance photo. >> I don't know why somebody put that picture there and said that that's me. But that's not me. >> I'm be real honest with you >> cuz I did tell you I didn't go in the truck. you you uh you got some street wit about you and I can tell you're you're a smart very polite young lady. >> What makes you look foolish is when you say that's not you in the photo. You're smart. You're smart as well. I'm telling you this is the thing. I I just want you all the stuff you're saying makes sense. But when when Sergeant got you right here, >> but you keep going back to the photo. You said no >> and I said no. Yeah. And that's that's what I'm getting at. It's like everything you're saying smart as a boom boom boom. She's got and Vicky's got the answer to this. But this >> I don't know what else you want me to say. If I'm saying no, that's not me. So what's your next question? >> You got to give me some explanation. Like if I ask you something like no because A, B, and C. You're just saying no, that's not me. But any person, a child could look at this like, yeah, that's the same. >> It is what you're saying, but that's not what I'm saying. And I said I wasn't there. >> Okay. So, we know wasn't in Florida. >> If that's what you said. >> We know the wasn't in Florida, but somehow the vehicle ends up from Florida here. >> I don't know how the vehicle got here. Okay. All I know is my part. >> Things didn't unfold as the detectives had anticipated. So, he confronted her with the evidence items belonging to the victims found in her car, carefully watching for any crack in her composure. I >> I got a different question for you. Um, what would you tell me or what would you say if the belongings to the people I showed you in the photo, the two people that are no longer on this earth, if the belongings were in the car you were in? >> You have to ask. I'm not asking the vehicle. >> I'm not asking. I'm asking you about those things. >> You're asking me about the I told you I had no idea what was in there. >> Okay. >> She claimed she had no idea what was inside the car, but detectives discovered a purse, a coffee cup with what appeared to be blood stains, and a phone, all belonging to the victims. She didn't confess, but the evidence spoke louder than anything she could say. A fingerprint report identified a palm print found on the Getman's dryer as belonging to Williams, placing her inside the house, right where incident happened. Vicky Williams was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of grand theft of a vehicle.
