Mom better have an extremely good excuse or she's 10:15. Yeah. What happened tonight? Where? >> Oh my god, you guys. I literally just want to go riding. >> Well, I'm being very [music] clear with you right now, sir. >> So, I supposed to look look like like my son ain't missing. >> Bad parents come in all shapes and sizes. Some crumble under the weight of addiction, while others should never have been parents in the first place. >> What do you want to do? You want to lock me up? Put me in the trucks. >> Okay, get back. >> Then what the [ __ ] you want to do? >> I'm trying to talk. >> What the [ __ ] you want to do? At some point, the cops have to get involved, surprising the [music] crackhead parents in their house of horrors. >> When we came in, you guys have passed out. We found a weed pipe next to the bed. It's in plain view. Right next to the bed on the floor. Okay. So, she went to the clinic yesterday. Did she use yesterday? Do you know of? >> Listen, is there anything inside your raw? Anything you're hiding? Do you normally keep stuff in there? >> Yes. >> Okay. On February 2nd, 2024, police in [music] St. Petersburg, Florida, responded to a disturbing report about two small children [music] believed to be living in unsanitary conditions. As officers began speaking with neighbors, they started to realize the situation might be far more serious. >> And you said you've lived here how many years? >> 11. >> 11 years. And you've never seen them? Never seen kids outside playing? Didn't even know the kids were in that house ever. didn't know they existed. >> Okay. >> When she told me that, I was shocked. >> And you said you never saw a woman at this house, just a man. >> I just see a guy. >> Okay. >> And he walks down the street all the time and be driving a little Toyota Corolla sometime and that's it. >> Toyota Corolla and that's it. >> That's it. >> Okay. >> Never really even seen nobody here but him. >> What does that man look like? Have you ever like seen him? He's >> I think he last I seen him he had like like a nappy little short afro. >> Like a small afro. >> Yeah. Kind of light skin. >> Light skin. >> Um I'm taller than him. I say about >> so much height like about >> you see him go in and out of the house or you see him just kind of walk past the house? >> I walk past the house. I know he be there. >> Okay. >> Um that's all I know. >> Okay. The neighbor was as surprised to hear there was a woman involved as she was to hear there were kids. When the officers entered the house, they found two unresponsive adults and a home littered with drug paraphernalia. They mirandized the male suspect, Nathan Lkins, and then questioned [music] him about the situation. >> Having these rights in mind, you wish to talk to me? >> Yeah. >> Just about the whole situation. >> Whole situation? >> Yeah. sleep. You ready to go to work? >> Jail, >> huh? >> They're taking you to jail. >> So, this is your house. >> Your mom? Okay. How long you been living here? >> Since October, just 3 months. >> 3 months? >> She came from over there with her mom. >> Okay. How long has she been living here? >> She came over with a place to stay here. >> 3 months ago. No, same time I brought all you. I take care of everybody. >> Listen, is there anything inside your raw? Anything you're in hiding like? >> I bring anything that jail. It's >> I can't feel it. I can't feel it. Can I Can I look? >> Do you normally keep stuff in there? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Can I check? Can I check to see if there's anything? >> Do you know if there's anything in there? You don't? >> I don't think there's anything in there. >> You don't think or you don't know? >> I don't think so. >> Okay, well that's fine. The situation in the house was deplorable with visible rot and mold, buckets of urine lying around, and cigarette buds littering the floor. To make things even [music] worse, Nathan Lkins and his partner Courtney Polling were parents to a 1-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy. >> The kids, they're yours and hers. >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. How long have you guys been together? >> Five, six years. >> Five, six years. >> Okay. Um, what >> she uses? Yes or no? >> She's okay. >> Okay. So, you said you took her to the method. >> Yeah. >> Okay. When's the last time she went? >> Yes, sir. >> Yesterday. >> Okay. Do you know of her to have used since yesterday? >> Did she use? >> I I don't know. She I can't I can't I may what? Oh, >> she illness too. She She got illness, bro. >> She what? >> She's illness, man. Just >> I'm sorry. Maybe me. I'm just not >> It's an illness. That's >> okay. It's an illness. Okay. >> Um >> I didn't go to the bad days. >> Okay. So, she went to the clinic yesterday. Did she use yesterday? Do you know of I was at work? >> Okay. What do you do for work? >> A text. Nathan quickly acknowledged his partner was an addict, claiming he took her to a methadone clinic the day before. When asked if she was still using drugs, he was evasive and looked very uncomfortable. >> When we came in, you guys have passed out. We knocked the first time. >> Was there an incident prior to us getting here with one of the children being outside? >> No. >> Nothing at all? >> No, we've been here 3 months. She had never been outside the house. No. We got called about an hour before we woke you guys or probably about 15 minutes before we woke you guys. >> And the door should the situation with that door was that when they came on it's old house about 7. >> I understand >> it was knocked off the hinges by one of the where's that air conditioner that brought it from what happened? They bam the door and knocked off the top hank in the wood. >> So I I understand that cuz we were here for the overdose last week. My question is is we were called here before before we woke you guys up today. >> We were called here about 15 minutes prior. >> Okay. Somebody called in and said there was a child walking around out front >> and that you came out and addressed the child and brought the child back in. >> I didn't come out the door at all until you guys came in the house and tell me so I went out the door. That's a total lie. I see somebody's lying to you. >> At that point, the situation with the child could be considered as hearsay. So instead of beating around the bush, the officer shifted his line of questioning by confronting Nathan with the actual physical evidence they found in the house. >> We found the weed pipe in there. She said she smokes weed. She said you guys both smoked weed. When's the last time you smoked weed? >> Smoke weed yesterday. >> Yesterday. Okay. Before you guys went to bed, when you woke up? >> That was yesterday afternoon. Okay. >> Um, we found a weed pipe next to the bed. It's in plain view. Right next to the bed on the floor. >> Okay. Is that commonly where you leave your weed pipe? >> No. >> Okay. Then they ask you about now again where she's sitting on the couch here at that folding tray table. There's a crack on. Okay. Who smells crap? >> I understand it's not you. I have a feeling based on her prior and everything with her. >> Did she smell crap yesterday? >> I don't know. >> With drug paraphernalia lying around the house, it was clearly a safety hazard for the kids. But the situation was far worse than that. Police reports later stated the two children were covered with bug [music] bites and rashes. The boy also had cigarette burns on his chest and arms. >> Let me ask you your honest opinion. Okay, just this is a question. As a father myself from the outside looking in, okay, do you think or would you have ever thought if you had kids you would let your kids live in a house like this? And I and I get she like she said it's not like this all the time, but if you walked into this house right now and said there's two kids living here, would you sit and think, "Yeah, that's normal." >> What would you think? >> It's not a purpose. I'm not I'm trying to be >> It's what? There was nothing Nathan could do to improve the situation and he was clearly not comfortable with how things were unfolding. But at the same time, he didn't exactly show genuine remorse or try [music] to explain himself. >> I mean, like I said, I'm just asking your opinion. >> All right. What was your first name? >> Nathan. >> Nathan. All right. Do me a favor, Nathan. I'm going to have your hands behind your back. What did I do? What? I'm getting arrested for both being arrested. I'll tell you what. Stay cooperative. I got two pair of handcuffs. I see you're a bigger guy. >> I'm getting arrested for >> what? You got some big wrists, too, man. >> What? >> Yeah, I'll tell you in a second. >> As he was being arrested, he did not resist or argue. He just acted surprised, especially when the officer explained that he and Courtney were being arrested for child neglect. As if the thought never even entered his mind. >> All right, I'm going to try and make sure this doesn't lock up. Tell you what, if you sit tight, I got a couple of ankle cuffs. They're a little bit bigger. I'll grab them out of my car and we'll use those. Okay, cuz I know these are probably >> Yeah, you guys are both going to be under arrest for child neglect. Okay, >> child neglect. Why? Why? >> Because the living conditions of the house are not feasible for children. Okay, there's obviously a reason we were our initial plan was just to take the children um because they shouldn't be living here. You guys have drug paraphernalia that's easily accessible to them. You're both passed out when we get here. The house is disgusting. You have mold, rotting food together. I'm trying to >> Yeah, that's been here before we got here. >> You want to put her in yours? Because he's probably going to go in mine. >> Kids were also here before we got >> Yeah. Just for room. >> Okay. So, you guys are both going to be under for child neglect >> and Yep. And the children are be going to be coming with us. We've already contacted DCF. They're going to come grab the pick. >> Oh. Right. >> Let's take a walk over here. Put gloves on. You go and search them. >> The suspects were booked in the Penllis County Jail and charged with child neglect, while Nathan received an additional charge of child. His bond was set at $160,000 and Courtney's at $10,000. On May 5th, 2023, Largo Emergency Services were called in for a toddler who suddenly became unresponsive. However, as the investigation progressed, the emergency response gradually became a criminal investigation. >> We're over there on the side of the building, not too close to the lake, but you know, a little further back. My have a habit of picking up dirt sticks. >> My my old, she's just starting to crawl. So, we're out there. We're letting her crawl a little bit, get dirty, whatever. And then when we come back inside, she has something in her mouth. And I don't, you know, I'm I'm not knowing what the it is, but I'm not in the rush to take it out either because I'm sure it's not nothing serious. Maybe a sock or something because we've been in the house for a second. I went like this and with some white in her mouth. I don't know if it was me or my wife. That exactly who went and took that, but it was some white in her mouth. So, I took the bag. I put it on the counter and I was trying to assess whether what it was. >> So, we sat there, waited to call the cops. We waited to call the paramedics for just a second, but then she started her eyes started rolling and stuff like that. Then finally we said, we called the paramedics. The paramedics came. When the paramedics came, they asked me what she had taken. I told them I didn't know. I told them it's a white substance. Could be anything from >> could be anything. >> The man claimed that the incident happened outside. Even so, the toddler had clearly been left unsupervised, allegedly playing with the white substance for 5 to 8 minutes before [music] anyone noticed. The officers also suspected he could be lying about whether the incident actually happened inside the house. >> And about how long after you found it, did it take for you to call paramedics? >> Maybe a minute. Because at the at that point, she started acting different. Her hands went up like this. Her lips had a little blue tint to it. And I know that that looks like an overdose. Just basic common sense. It looked like something something's wrong. So I we called the police. We called the paramedics and the paramedus came and here we are. >> What's your first name? >> Kane. K A N E. >> Is there anything else that you need? >> One by name and date of birth for WW. Yeah, we're going to need a lot more. We're going to need statements. We're going to need to talk to your wife. We're going to need the names of all the >> Are we able to look in the residence for any other substances? There's no other substances in the house, but I don't want my house ransacked right now. >> No, we're not talking about ransacking. We're talking about walking through anything a visual sight. Like that's it. >> Can we do this at another time, please? >> Right now is the most important time to do it. Make sure there's nothing else for your to be harmed with. >> There was It didn't come from my home. >> I I understand that, but if one [music] got it into the home, do you think it could have happened with another? >> They're all about to leave with me. The man, Cain Thomas, pleaded with the officers to just let him go to the hospital, claiming the kids would be safe if they went with him. At the same time, he was very wary about letting the cops [music] inside his house. >> Honestly, am I at risk at going to jail or something? >> Not if there's nothing inside. >> But there was no reason to go search my house, though, sir. >> I mean, your [music] has something inside of them that is them. >> But they didn't get it from inside my house. >> I understand that. But we have to do our job, too. There's nothing in my house. I don't want my house search. I want to get I want to get my kids to the hospital. >> Okay. We're not trying to like look for or anything like that. We're just trying to >> I don't have I don't even smoke, sir. I >> We're just trying to find >> Don't smoke. >> We're just going to sit here and wait. >> We're not going to go anywhere. >> Do not close the door. >> Come on. Step out here. >> Why are y'all doing this? >> Come on. Step out. Step out. Because you're trying to close the door. Nobody's going in your home. Nobody's going to search your home. That's my promise to you. But you're not going to >> I'm telling you that I don't want you guys to come in the home >> and I >> Watch out for the tears. Watch out for a minute. I'm not going in your home. >> Then why then what's the problem? >> But if later on something worse, okay, God forbid your, you know, does not survive this, this becomes a crime scene and we will go in at that time. >> As the officers promised they wouldn't go inside the house, the man reluctantly agreed to step out with his other two children. They patted him down for safety reasons, then continued their line of questioning. girl. Sounds like she's doing okay. >> She's stable at the moment. Okay. Is there anything else though in the house that we should be concerned about? >> Yes. No, sir. >> None at all. Okay. >> If I told you we don't care about the >> I'm not going to get in trouble for the >> Are you okay if we just look around and make sure there's nothing else wise that would be of concern? Is there anything Let me ask you this. I'm I'm being completely transparent. Obviously, there was some sort of bag, right? Was some sort of powder from what I understand, right? Is there any more of that inside the house? >> No. >> With that simple no, Kane basically admitted that the drugs came from his house. He asked to speak with his wife over the phone before allowing the officers inside. They agreed, but only on the condition that they could listen to the conversation. Okay. You know, there's no >> I don't want to do it if they don't have to. >> If you don't have to, they don't. That's all. Go ahead. >> They're just telling me that they won't. >> Yeah. I'll I'll explain. I'll say I'll tell you just how I told him. Okay. Obviously, we want to get consent to go into the house to look around, make sure there's no narcotics or anything that would be concerning for the Okay. Like I told him, you have every right to tell us no. Okay. 100%. But what I did tell him is if you guys tell us no, which again you have every right to, I am going to call in detectives to come in here and we are going to try to write a search warrant on your residence. Obviously, that's a timeconuming thing. It's not a guarantee. I'm not telling you yes, the judge will grant it. I'm not saying they won't. I don't I don't know. We won't know that until it's done. >> Kane claimed to be in a hurry to see his child in the hospital, but he clearly just didn't want to let the officer inside. At one point, he even burst into tears as if he was certain he would get arrested once officers got in. >> You understand what I'm saying? I just don't want to do that. Doesn't make a difference. >> Kane, I see my Anyway, >> Kane, I 100% understand. >> He realized that's not our goal, right? >> I know you guys seems like y'all would seems like you guys would have been left and let me keep my I'm not >> It's the last thing I want to do. It really truly is. You know how anxious I get about it. I'm going to let him go in, but you know how I feel about this type of you left me here to visit this. >> I was talking about my >> I could have went and you could have stayed here >> because you could have been broke. You know what, man? I don't give a no more. >> You don't give a leave me in that. >> Let's go. Y'all want to come in here? Y'all want to search the house? Hold on. >> I was honest. You are honest. I know. >> I I I swear. I know. >> Officers quickly [music] located the firearms that the suspect had informed them about. They also discovered what appeared to be his diary along with incriminating drug paraphernalia. Together, those items only strengthened the case against him. >> Talks about snoring and overdosing. And I found that right underneath this the bed. >> Can you give me a um my department? >> I just took a picture of it. Yep. >> What' you find behind the >> That looks used. >> Okay. >> That's his handwriting, right? >> It's at least talking in a male's perspective cuz it's I found her in the bed. I found him with you. >> Hello. >> I'm going to jail. >> Why? >> Because they found straws >> and in the bathroom. So, and they they're charging me with what what happened to her, you know. So, you need to figure out a way to get to these or something cuz No, I'm going to jail. Grandma's on her way. Um >> I I told I told you the truth. Okay. >> You're not selling not a bad guy. >> Since no drugs were found in the house, the officer explained that they are not arresting him for possession. However, the child neglect charges were strong and carried with them a potential felony charge. >> Wait a second felony so high I can go to prison. >> Well, I can't do anything about that. I'm like, there's nothing I can do about that. But here's the thing. That's what the whole court process is. Okay? And that's what that's what your defense attorney is going to work out for you and all that kind of stuff. Okay? >> Listen, you got a wallet on you. You got anything else on you? >> No, that's all right, man. coming. >> All right. >> Thank you, Scott. >> Thank you. Thanks for being cooperative. >> After seeing the evidence, the officers concluded that the child was able to gain access to illegal narcotics inside the home. Since Kain Thompson was the one in charge of the children's safety at the time, he was the one getting charged with felony child neglect. The toddler received medical treatment and made a full recovery. On April 12th, 2024, a woman in Molen called the Illinois police after an allegedly violent altercation with her husband. But once officers arrived, she suddenly found herself torn between cooperating with them and protecting her husband. In the end, that decision would backfire. >> Hello. >> Hi. What's going on? Um, I just wanted him to get the out my crib because he's over here acting up, being crazy. >> Where's he at? >> He's upstairs. His name's Angel, right? >> Yeah. His name is Luis. >> Luis. >> Louis. Angel. Yes. >> Hey, Louise. >> He needs to He's intoxicating. He's really intoxicate. Intoxicated. >> Is there any uh Is there any weapons in the house? >> No weapons. >> Okay. Luis, >> I know. I can't hear. >> Luis, it's Simone Police Department. I got another unit on the I'm not going up there without >> That's fine. >> I don't know what's going on. What happened tonight? >> Nothing. He's just acting drunk and I'm not trying to deal with it tonight cuz my kids are here and I'm not going to deal with it tonight. >> It's just verbal, right? >> It was just verbal. He didn't put his hands on me or nothing. >> He was in here like yelling and >> Yeah. Being a drunk basically and I don't want to deal with it tonight. >> Okay, fair enough. >> Nothing happened. Now he's being real quiet after I called the cops on him. >> Yeah, he's clearly not going to respond. We're going to have to go up there. >> He's up there with my other son. >> The woman explained that her husband, Luis Angel Martinez, also lives in the house, but claimed she didn't want him there because he was drunk as the officer gathered more information. A male figure appeared at the top of the stairs. >> Hey, Louise. >> Yeah, you get the out of my head, bro. No, >> it's a small police department. You want to come down here and talk? >> What the [ __ ] I do? I was sleeping with my son. Okay. >> Oh, now you're sleeping. I just heard a voice. >> You want to come down here with my son? Why is my >> Yeah, I did. You want to sit there and be [ __ ] aggressive with us? >> I'm sleeping. >> You were sleeping. Now you're sleeping. >> Just told me. Who's downstairs? I'm sleeping. Who's downstairs? That old Angel, come here. He's the one that told me. Who's downstairs? I'm sleeping. He's the one that woke me up. >> Okay. How about you come down here and talk to me, boss? >> No, I ain't talking [ __ ] Just my [ __ ] you. Come out here, [ __ ] Blast the >> He doesn't have He doesn't even have guns. >> That's what you want. >> I don't care. Like I'm tired. You >> of what? I'm sleeping with my kids. >> You can go to jail. I don't care. >> Even though the woman Crystal Barajas claimed that Angel didn't own any guns. He was aggressive toward the officer and even threatened him. So the moment the backup had arrived, the officers made their way upstairs. Angel, where you at? Angel, Angel, >> what? >> Where you at, dude? >> [ __ ] I'm laying in a bed with my son. What the you doing upstairs? >> Cuz we need I'm going shoot you in the head. >> Are you? >> Yeah. Where you going? >> Show me your [ __ ] hands. >> No. You I'm laying with my son. Where you going? >> What is going on tonight? >> I don't know. I'm laying in the bed with my son. Why you freaking out my son, bro? >> I'm not trying. >> Get the Get theing light off. Go, puppy. Go, go, go, go, go, go. >> What are you doing tonight, dude? >> I don't know. I'm laying in bed. Why the are you here? Y'all [ __ ] on my sleep. >> We got called because you're causing issues. >> By who? By who? By who? >> No. Tell me who called you. >> They refused. >> Who? Who? >> The caller refused to provide. >> What do you want to do? What do you want to do? You want >> to do anything? No. You were in my room. Angel was clearly infuriated by the cop's presence, and his wife's story quickly began to make sense. The question was, will he manage to calm down and leave, or will he keep acting aggressively and force the officers to act? >> Yeah, we're disturbing the peace with my son. I'm sleeping with my kid. You got me over here, buck. What do you want to do? You want to lock me up? Putting me in the trucks. >> Okay, get back. >> Then what the [ __ ] you want to do? >> I'm trying to talk. the you want to do put your hands on, huh? We keep talking out, [ __ ] >> Let me get one more. >> I'm in my bed with my son. You want to hurt me? >> You want to hurt me? Thank you, Crystal. Thank you, Crystal. >> Put your hands behind your back. >> You want to put >> I'm laying in bed with my son. You got to be >> Put your hands >> in my own bed. >> In my own bed with my son. Angel, stop. >> I don't care. >> We will. We will. I got to get him first >> and then I will. >> Okay. Well, put his pants up. >> Give me your other hand. >> Give me your other hand. >> I don't care. You chose this. >> Crystal pretended not to care, but her actions showed otherwise. She kept telling the officers what to do and how to handle the suspect. So, while Angel kept resisting, she kept interfering, which needlessly complicated the situation. >> Pull up his pants up. >> Crystal, step back. We will get his pants up. It's going to happen as soon as we get his arms. Give me your other hand. >> I can't move. >> Yes, you can. >> No, I can't. My shoulder is on top of my hand, dumb ass. You're trying to break my wrist. >> What are you trying your hand out? >> I'm trying, you man. Get the off of me. I'm trying. I'm trying to pull off. >> You're hurting him. >> I'm not. [groaning] >> He's wearing my pants. He's not even wearing his pants. >> Get his pants. >> No, that's not even his pants. They're my pants. >> Crystal, these are the pants he's going to wear right now. Okay. [snorts] How are you guys going to put me in a submission? I can't breathe. >> You can breathe out. >> You [ __ ] >> Okay. You can breathe. >> No. Let me go. >> I didn't do nothing, bro. I'm laying down with my phone. >> How am I going to jail? >> You're going to jail for being up. That's what happened. >> By the time Angel was in handcuffs and about to be escorted outside, tensions were already running high. Suddenly, Crystal lost her composure and made a move that would send the situation spiraling into chaos. >> Okay, let's go. [ __ ] someone. >> Sorry, my radio got me for all of you guys to come in here. No, this is my >> Don't put your hands on me. >> Get off me. [screaming] >> Why is he touching me? >> So why are you putting your hands on me? >> The up. >> Oh, when I got to All right, >> just get him downstairs. Oh, what the >> what the Oh my god. My shoulder. My shoulder. [screaming] My shoulder. My shoulder. >> Okay. Are you okay? Do you need >> my shoulder? >> I know. I fell down the stairs, too. >> My shoulder. >> We're fine with Crystal. Can you go in there, please? >> My shoulder is dislocated. My shoulder. >> As Angel screamed about his shoulder being hurt, he kept flailing and bumping himself against the officers and the car. At the same time, the officers were still trying to calm his wife down. >> So, why are you on top of me? >> Crystal, if you don't, I'm going to place you on handcuff. >> You're going to place me on handcuffs. >> Crystal, you're done placing the cuffs. >> Why? I'm not doing nothing. >> Put your hands on your >> What am I doing? Get the off. [screaming] >> Stop. >> What are you guys going to get? I have a lawyer. Watch. What are you guys doing? What are they doing? Officer, are you serious? >> Crystal, you got to go. [screaming] >> Oh my god. Oh my god. with anyone for >> Crystaling here. So why >> Crystal Let's go. Let's get away from your kids. >> He was scaring my kids. >> Crystal, just relax for me. >> Once the officers managed to get her downstairs, they sat her down and tried to explain the situation calmly. For a moment, tears subsided and it looked like she was about to calm down. But then >> Crystal, >> listen to me for a second. If you just calm down and be calm. >> Okay. But just please let me go because you're not listening to me shoulder me. Listen to me. >> Tell your office to let off me. Why am I on their finger? >> You have to listen on me in my own house. I'm the victim. I got a lawyer. Watch >> you. Okay, >> dude. Tell him to let go of me. >> Let me talk for a second. Okay, let me talk for a second. >> I'm the victim here. Why am I getting tackled in my own house? >> Will you listen to me? You listen to me. >> That's fine. Now I got my lawyer. Like I said, relax. >> I got my lawyer. Like I said, like I said, I'm in my house. I know my rights. That's fine. And you know they're in trouble. Can you please let go me? Don'ting put your hands on me. >> You need to listen. >> Don't put your hands on me. You justing put your hands on me in mying house. Yeah, cuz I know mying rights. >> Crystal claimed that she had three kids upstairs, that she was in nursing school trying to provide a better life for her family and didn't want any trouble, but actions have consequences. So, she was ultimately arrested and charged with aggravated battery to a peace officer. Louise faced the same charges [music] along with resisting arrest. What would you do if you saw two small children without any clothes running on a busy street? On September 2nd, 2025, one lady faced the exact same situation. She decided to give the mother and her kids a lift, but then called the police, worried about their safety. >> Why don't your kids have any clothes on them? >> Cuz she we they took them off. We just got the sub. >> You got the You got the what? >> I'm not in No violation, sir. I didn't ask. >> We just got out the tub. I don't want to go to jail. We just got out the tub. >> You should be good on this. >> Why? >> What's What's your name? >> Probation. >> Okay. Why don't your kids have clothes on them? >> We just got out the tub. We just heard the most news about my mom. We just heard the news about my mom. >> You were giving them baths. >> Yes. >> Okay. What happened to their clothes, though? >> I just took them out and put them peppers on. >> Okay. Am I in trouble for that? >> Okay, >> hang hang tight for me. Okay. >> Yeah, they seem to be okay. They just don't have and she's obviously she's she's blasted. Uh >> this lady, the driver picked him up from somewhere on the west. Right over here, good Samaritan. >> Although the mother claimed the children had just come out of the bathtub, the witness claimed otherwise. According to her, just minutes after they arrived, she saw the kids running outside the house. One wearing a diaper and the other completely naked. >> Lyric, how old are they? >> One and two. >> One and two. >> Okay. >> Yeah, feel free. Can you give me Can you point me in the right direction here? So, we're over here on Glendale and uh Wayne, and this lady gives a mother and her her one and two-year-old kids a ride to this address from somewhere on West. Uh mother is heavily impaired. I don't know by what. The two kids at the time, they didn't have any clothes on. They were in the middle of the street over there, but she has since put a diaper on one of them. Um, and so when I asked mom about it, she said, "Well, we just got the we just got the map. That's all the reason I have for why they don't have." The officer knew he could potentially charge the mother, Lyric, with neglect, but wasn't sure if that was the right course of action. He eventually had to call social services and explain the entire situation. >> Go ahead and let me know what's going on, and I'll set this up how I need to. >> Sure. Uh, so Haley called us because she gave the mother and the two children a ride from the other side of town. Uh, just acting as a good Samaritan. Uh when she first made contact with the kid or the the little boy, she found the little boy naked in the middle of Southwestern, which is a uh a heavily trafficked road. >> Okay. >> Um and then she saw a mother and the baby girl uh come out of a nearby residence. Haley, the witness, claimed that neither of the kids had any clothes on when she first saw them. That caught her attention and motivated her to offer the family a ride. She hoped they would be taken care of at grandma's house. But once she saw them on the street again, still not dressed properly, she decided to report it to the authorities. I think after they got here, she said she put a diaper >> on the little boy >> on the little boy. But when I pulled up, the female, the little baby girl was still naked. Still naked now. >> Still naked now. Okay. >> When you pulled up, the little female was still naked. Inside the home or outside? >> Uh, they were the So, the two kids were in the vehicle, the good Samaritan's vehicle, Haley's vehicle. Uh, Haley, because she called us, she was waiting on the side of the road to talk to me. She still had the kids in her car. >> Okay. Okay. And then mother was in the relative's house here at 7:17 Wayne. >> My partner had you which you heard him say that she'd been in there for 8 minutes uh without any fear for her kids' safety. >> Social services confirmed that the situation was dangerous and something had to be done. The officers waited for the Department of Children and Families to get to the location, then proceeded to arrest the mother. For what? >> The health and life of your children. >> Don't stop resisting. >> What did I do? Why did I resist? >> Why did I resist? >> Why did I endanger my kids? >> How did I endanger coming to take protective custody? >> Yeah, they're going to escalate it. How did I >> Hey, will you make sure you got nothing stashed? >> They trying to hurt me. Please. >> No. Somebody, please explain to me. How did I endanger my kids? >> No. Explain to me now. >> Nobody. >> I didn't do nothing. If you want something done, >> we're not going to do anything. >> Come on here. Let's make sure she didn't >> I didn't do nothing though. >> Lyric appeared distraught and emotional, but instead of feeling remorse for endangering her kids, she kept insisting she hadn't done anything wrong. She even pushed against the car with her feet, clearly resisting the officers. >> You said I didn't do something about kids. Am I right or wrong? >> Hey, Mr. Searcher, real quick. Okay, >> we just got to pat you down. Make sure you don't have anything you shouldn't. Okay. >> I don't have no time. We just have to make Why are y'all doing me like that? I didn't do nothing for my kids. >> Stop trying to get my kids sucking. >> No. >> Sit in the car. Larry, >> take in the car. >> I didn't do something. I want my dad. >> Oh, you're doing something right now. Get in the car. >> Larry, get in the car. >> Get in. No. >> Get in the car. >> Get in the car. >> Get in the car. >> I didn't do nothing wrong. >> Get in your car. >> Why are you playing recording? >> It's recording. >> Everything is getting recorded. Get your foot in the car. >> What did I do? Get your foot in there. >> Come on now. >> Incredible. The officer struggled for a while to get the suspect inside the vehicle, but the job was far from over. Instead of calming down, Lyric got angrier by the minute. She started screaming uncontrollably, making the situation more difficult than it needed to be. >> What did I do? [screaming] >> Yes, ma'am. >> What did I do wrong? [screaming] Please talk to me. Lyric, you need to calm down. [screaming] >> I didn't do nothing. >> No, cuz y'all did it. I didn't do nothing. >> You want to know? I'm going to tell you why. >> Please let me out and let me know then. >> And I'll give you all right to tase me. >> Nobody's tased you yet. Okay. >> She probably heard the officer deploy the taser when they were trying to get her inside the car, but they did not tase her. It was more of an attempt to warn her and get her to cooperate. >> Stop. If you want to know why you're going to jail, okay, you left your car and left your children in a car. Can I speak? You want me to tell you? >> You want me to tell you? >> You want me to tell you? You got to stop. Okay. >> Yeah. Okay. >> See people. >> Okay. You left your car kids in a car with a complete stranger for 8 minutes. 8 minutes. It doesn't matter if she gave you a ride or not. What would have stopped her from taking off with your kids? >> I didn't do them wrong. >> That is definitely wrong. I know you love your kids, but you can't leave your kids in a >> What am I getting arrested for? I >> danger the health and life of your children. That is the charge. >> But I'm trying to get away from my kids for 8 years. >> You should have thought about that before did what you did. Lyric said she was on probation, so she knew this arrest would likely send her back to prison, but there was no getting out of it anymore. She was arrested and charged with child endangerment and resisting arrest. [music] On May 10th, 2024, a 4-year-old boy snuck out of his house, climbed over the neighbor's fence, and got into their backyard. Police soon found out that it was not the first time something like that had happened. This is like probably the fifth time he's gotten He's just out. And >> you said he came over your fence. >> Oh, yeah. He over our over here. He was in our backyard and thankfully we have three dogs. So, thankfully our dogs weren't outside. >> Mhm. >> Yeah. He climbed over our fence. I've already put a lock on it because he'll unlock it and go in our backyard. And he I looked out here one time and he was just running up and down the road. And the dad normally he's like, "Oh, I don't know how we got out." We're like, "Put the door. That's how he got out. You need to put a lock on your door." And he doesn't. And we hear him screaming all the time at him. And I mean I look I gave him goldfish cuz I he said he was hungry but he has a diaper full of and so I don't I don't know how long he's been outside. Yeah. She knows he goes in their yard too. >> She's from this >> she lives in that other one. He just he up and down the road all the time. >> The neighbor also claimed that the child had told her that his father was away. But she wasn't sure if anyone else lived in the house except the boy and his father. All she knew was the boy's name, Messiah. >> I know he's come over here six times. I don't know how many times he's been over to you guys. >> Yeah, he's only been in my backyard, but I've actually seen him in the neighborhood. And then Sarah >> couple houses down came and knocked on her door one time and she was at her house. >> Oh, yeah. >> Well, he runs right behind cars and I'm like, dude, >> I can't control them. It's so sad though. >> You can you hear him screaming at him? >> Oh, yeah. All the time. >> You've been to the same. >> Yeah, we came here for like a 911. They probably playing on the phone. Dad was like, "Did >> you guys leave that room?" >> Sleeping out front. >> Open the door and kind of got aggressive with um I think it's only him that lived there with the kid. >> How long has he been here? How long ago was he in your backyard? >> 20 minutes ago. My niece was like, "There's a kid in your backyard." I'm like, "Are you kidding me?" And he knocked on his door, right? >> Oh, I knocked on the doors on the windows. He's not answering. He said he went for a walk. He said the dad went for a walk. >> With evidence of long-standing child neglect piling up, the situation was looking worse by the minute. Once the officers felt they had enough information, they crossed the street to inspect the house and immediately noticed an open window with a cut in the bug screen. >> That's probably where he came out of. He's sleeping in there, >> sir. Excuse me, sir. >> Can you come to the front door? Hey, go to the front door. Call me Bay Police Department. What's up? >> What? >> Open the front door. >> Yeah. >> You know where your son is? >> I'm I'm calling for him now. >> Well, I know where he is, but he's not in the house. >> Excuse me. I know where he is. >> Okay. >> He is not in the house. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Okay. >> At first, the suspect thanked the police for letting him know his son was not in the house. He was clearly not able to think straight and failed to realize the officers were suspecting him of child neglect. >> So, how did he get out? >> Come check the house. >> Well, I'm pretty sure it was from that uh ripped screen that's in your bedroom. >> [snorts] >> Do you know how long he's been missing? >> We went to bed around 7:00. >> Okay. >> And where's he at? >> He's with the neighbor. They tried they they knocked on your door. They tried getting you up and when they couldn't uh he said that you went on a walk. >> I went on a walk. >> That's what he said. So, um once he said that, they called us. I appreciate that. >> All right. So, um, >> do you have an ID on you? >> Excuse me. >> Do you have an ID? >> Do I have an ID? What the is this? Bring my son over here. My name is Cario. My number is 33 3845. >> Okay. I'm not sure why you're yelling, >> sir. You coming up ask me these questions. I'm a sergeant in the Marine Corps. That's not my idea I need to give you. The moment the man realized he was being blamed for his child's absence, he immediately got enraged. His slurred speech indicated that substance abuse might be the underlying reason this kept happening. >> Is the car registered to you? >> Excuse me. >> Is the car registered to you? >> The the truck? >> Yes. Is the vehicle registered to you? >> Thank you. It is >> okay. >> Hang tight for me. >> Where's my son at? >> He's just Wait. I'm going away for my son. >> Okay. >> Just not yell, please. We've located your son. He's okay. He's got a neighbor's house. We'll get >> I'm going to jail. >> If you cause a disturbance, you're going to go to jail. >> I'm going to jail. >> You cause a disturbance, you're going to end up at the Bvard County Jail. Are we clear? >> No, I'm not clear with that. >> All right. Well, I'm being very clear with you right now, sir. >> So, I supposed to look look like like my son ain't missing? We have located your son. He is okay. >> Your son is safe. >> What I need you to do is be respectful to these officers while we deal with this situation. >> Being respectful of these officers. Yes, I'm being respectful these officers. >> The man claimed he was respectful, but at the same time, he kept raising his voice at them. The signs of impairment were obvious, and the officers pointed that out while also mentioning a previous incident. >> Based on my personal opinion, you appear to be under the influence >> of what? I can't tell you exactly, but you appear to be under the influence. You're slurring your speech. You're unable to walk straight. >> Man, I just got woke woke up. >> Okay. And I was also out here last week because you left your car running all night and I had to turn off your car for you. >> You never have to come over here to turn my car off. >> I got the body. >> That's a goddamn >> I got body cam video for it. >> Show me the body cam footage. >> I never left my car. >> And we've been here several times for 911 hangups because your kid's playing on the phone and you're falling asleep. What you just said right there is a goddamn lie. >> Okay. Hey, >> give me on body cam footage of this. >> Is my back find your back. >> I'm pussing. >> No, you're not. You're going to jail. >> Put your shirt on. >> I got piss. >> Stop acting. >> Stop resisting. >> Stop. >> I'm not resisting. >> You are going to end up at county jail. >> Are we clear? >> Stop resisting. I'm not going to tell you. >> Yes, you are. You're tensing up. Stop. >> Away. Stop. >> When it became clear that he had no intention of calming down, the officers decided to arrest him. Before escorting him to the squad car, the officers gave him an opportunity to put on some clothes. >> Do you have some shorts I can grab for you? >> Excuse me. >> Do you have shorts I can grab for you? >> I can get >> No, you can't. Not at this moment. You cannot. I'm trying to be nice. I'm trying to give you some some some pants to wear. >> I have shorts. >> Where? >> In my bedroom. Do you want me to grab him for you? >> Can I um um go on in short? >> I'm not resisting for the goddamn thing. >> What are you doing? Turn around. >> I'm walking to the side so you can open the door. >> We have to search you. Can you piss the vehicle, please? >> You have pockets in the front. >> Yeah, they're in the front. >> I didn't even know where my son is. >> Is that a neighbor's house? >> A neighbor's house? Ain't this a [ __ ] So, >> luckily, the man did not physically resist. So, the arrest went pretty smoothly, but even after being placed in the squad car, he kept asking why he was being arrested, denying the allegations of child neglect. The officers, however, felt they had a pretty strong case. I mean, >> I don't know if we want to ask him if there's a parent, another parent close by. >> 10:15 for neglect. >> Yeah. Say child neglect. He has a duty and responsibility to be caring for that child and he's highly under the influence and allowing kids >> sitting in a shitty diaper for how long? >> That would also indicate that. >> Yeah. and we were out here last week. Document that I came out last week for his vehicle running >> for multiple hours that was called in by neighbors and attempt to make contact with him and he wouldn't wake up out of the back bedroom. >> And then also I would document in there that we've been out here for several multiple 911 calls where his child is called in on 911 because he's under the influence and passed out. >> Okay. >> The suspect was arrested and charged with child neglect without great bodily harm. After requesting several court continuences, he finally pleaded no contest in June 2025 in return for probation and adjudication [music] withheld, meaning he was neither pronounced guilty nor not guilty. In September 2025, he reopened the case. On February 7th, 2025, Tulsa deputies responded to a call from zoning inspectors reporting a severely dilapidated home in which two children were registered as residents. They claimed that the property had fallen into serious disrepair and didn't have any running water. >> God, you can smell it from out here. >> Let's talk. >> So, I talked too bad. He didn't know you didn't have >> name Bobby. >> Dwight walks. >> Uhhuh. >> No. No. No. Dwight's not here. >> Ran before. I've ran him before. >> Will they buy it? >> Um. >> All right. That's >> I don't know about his black one. >> Go ahead and grab it cuz if he bites me, he will not be around much longer. >> Okay. Come on. Mike. >> Okay, sir. Do me a favor. >> Okay. These officers, give them information. Okay. >> Are you Mr. >> Hey, bud. Come here. >> Where's that guy? Go back here. Hey, buddy. >> Hey. >> Hey, come out here. >> Come on. >> Not here. >> Give these officers your information. Okay. Yes, sir. A witness had earlier informed the officers that Dwight Eugene Holmes and Tiffany Jean Henderson lived in the house with two kids. However, once the officers stepped inside the house, they found three different males inside, [music] but no sign of Holmes. >> I don't know where he's at. >> Richie, you live? >> Yeah. >> All right. >> She's with me. And then I've got her show me the places on the warrant that I'm looking at. And then I'm about to come out. >> Okay. >> Did any of them have warrants? >> No. What's up there? >> Oh, is there a dog up there? >> I have no idea. >> Something's walking around in there. >> Yeah. So, it's probably Polly cuz she's >> real brown dogs. >> So, this is the kitchen. >> Yes. >> Henry 107. >> How long has the kitchen been like? >> Since the fire. >> Yes. Cuz they were all in the garage and the garage caught on fire and he moved everything in here. It was salvageable. But them babies can't live like this. >> I know. That's why we're moving to my dad. >> But you wouldn't know if I had been out here. That's what I'm saying. It's just a vicious cycle going through. >> We We were going to move there. My dad was just getting my grandma into a nursing home. >> What's this area? >> That's the laundry room dining. >> Holmes had a previous charge for drug trafficking. So, the officers were on the lookout for other incriminating evidence. That wasn't easy, though, since the conditions inside the house were deplorable. Yes, we were always planning on moving to my dad's, me and the boys. But >> there's a shotgun over there. >> I don't know. I think it's a BB gun. >> I forgot all about that. That's old. I don't think it even works. >> That don't look like no BB gun. >> I think that's what it is. >> There's a BB gun in the other room back there. >> Yeah, that's a BB gun. That looks like a 22. >> Yeah. >> Oh, I don't know. >> Bolt action. >> I thought it was a BB gun. >> No. >> Huh. >> Me and the boys. Usually we he they get out of school and we go to my dad and they come there right back downstairs. >> That That's your copy. So you can leave that wherever. Actually, I'll just I'll I'll put it right take a photo of it. Okay. [music] >> Okay. >> Tiffany claimed that they had a fire incident recently after which they had to pile all their things inside. But the officers saw clear signs that the house had been in that condition for a while. >> I don't know where he's at. >> Running quite the small engine repair shop it looks like in here. >> Yeah. >> This is where I arrested old Derek Carmio with a brand new stolen GMC. >> That's his kid. Um >> Okay. So, we're going to go upstairs one more time with with Deputy Stout cuz he's got a flashlight. >> That's not very charged, but we can try. You'd be good. >> Yeah, there is a dog right here. >> I was up here already. They were docile. >> Okay. >> This way. >> Okay. >> So, you have no light here, right? >> Yes. There's a light besides that. No, but >> need a light or >> when we come here at night time, we don't need a light really besides that much because we come here and [music] go to sleep. upstairs was in no better condition than downstairs. Officers noted that even without running water, one would expect to find drinking water and food or even a place to sleep. But none of those basic necessities were anywhere in sight. >> This is not good. Okay. >> Okay. That's why we are moving to my dad. >> All right. >> Me and the kids are moving to my dad. >> I didn't get that. Could you try it? Man, >> that's why the mattresses are already up there at my bed for that room. >> Yeah, my light it's dying on me. >> Oh, it's perfect. That There it is right there. And I got something going on. >> That's why I don't have very Who' you say her was? >> My It's Dwight's kids. His older three kids cousin. He's a loser. I don't like him. See, so there's no food here for them babies. >> No, cuz it's at my dad's >> and I just got food stamps today or yesterday, the 5th, >> and I'm just I was going to the shop grocery store to take more food to my [music] dad. >> Tiffany kept saying she planned to move to her dad's place with the kids and claimed they only slept here, although it wasn't clear exactly where. Once the officers felt they had enough evidence, [music] they escorted Tiffany outside. Yeah, it's nothing but any like cars in >> motorcycles. >> Really? >> That's why I don't have my Facebook right there. >> No, they're all like >> my dad already. >> There's only one like full size motorcycles. The rest of them are those little >> like that. >> There's a bunch of them back, too. >> Couple go-karts. So, here's why. >> Who's in that uh the SUV over there? >> What? >> That one? Is that the one that's usually parked over here? >> No. >> That one? >> Yeah. >> No, no, that one is I think black, maybe. After Tiffany had been securely handcuffed, the officers started scouring the backyard which resembled a scrapyard. They quickly found items that they thought were related to recent thefts in the area. >> Oh, that's a brand new crotch rocket. Like it looks pretty new. Well, to bet every single one of these are stolen. Spray painted over them. [snorts] >> Probably a >> car. >> That's crazy. >> In the end, both suspects were arrested. Tiffany Henderson was charged with child neglect, which is considered a serious offense in Oklahoma, carrying penalties [music] of up to life in prison. Dwight Holmes was also charged with child neglect, adding to his previous drug trafficking charge. On June 14th, 2024, Palm Bay police responded to reports of a young child screaming outside late at night. When officers arrived at the location, they found a six-year-old boy alone in a yard wearing only a t-shirt crying for his mother. >> Are you the mom or the neighbor? >> No, I'm just the neighbor. The mom lives next door. And >> she lives here, right, with the boyfriend? >> No, lives next door. >> Okay, we're >> kind of there. And um we were woken up cuz my husband heard this like loud noise or whatever. And he's only been over here a couple times like visiting or whatever. And he calls me grandma. I don't know why, but that's why I came over here. I called mom and she's on her way. But >> his mom >> his mom >> is on the way here. >> Yes. From where? >> She lives next door. >> Okay. >> And I called her and I was like, her name's And I said, "Your Johnny's over here next door." >> Yeah. >> And she said that the niece >> is supposed to be watching him. >> They were the ones who called, right? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> And he came to my house and started pounding on the front [snorts] door. >> Why? What did he say? He He was like, "Grandma, grandma." I don't know why he called me grandma, but he called me grandma, but he's very very autistic. >> Oh, okay. >> Very highly autistic. >> Got it. >> Another officer knocked on the door to see if the niece was there. The neighbor explained that they wrapped the boy in a towel since he didn't have any pants or underwear. The woman supposedly had two other kids, but they were likely not living with her. >> How old is he? >> Um, six. >> Okay. I just got to make sure he's all right. Do you mind finding your ID for me just so I can add you to the problem? >> Sir, how's it going? Hi. >> Hi, buddy. >> Are you okay? >> Oh, she's on her way from home. >> Uh-huh. Your mom. Is anyone home with you? >> Yeah. >> Who's home with you? >> On her on her way. >> Okay. Do you mind just hanging out with him? I'm going to go talk to them. Make sure. >> Yeah. No. >> Okay. Thank you, ma'am. I'll be right back. Bye, buddy. I'll be right back. >> You guys called, right? >> What >> did you guys call? >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, what happened? What did you see? >> He He raised the garage door and he was and all of a sudden he just started standing right there where your your girl officer is. >> He's screaming to the top of his lungs for his mom >> and we waited and waited thinking that she was there. >> Yeah. >> So, he gets pissed off and he closes the garage door and he comes over and starts ringing doorbell. He knows them guys. The neighbors across the street explained that the woman and her husband lived in the house with three boys, with the six-year-old being the oldest. They also mentioned the police have been called to the location several times before. >> Mom better have an extremely good excuse or she's 10:15. >> He's extremely autistic. >> Yeah, they got it on the door and >> she just left him here alone in the middle of the night. >> Oh my god. I don't have any break. My babysitter left. I had proof that I bought a babysitter tonight. He vibes. >> Okay. So, what what happened with the Was it like somebody you knew or was it a higher service or what was the >> Yeah, his name. >> Okay. >> And I paid him $40 to stay here. >> Don't leave me. >> You guys, >> when was he Let me see. >> Yeah. What happened tonight? Where? >> Oh my god, you guys. I literally just went to go riding. Um I left a couple hours ago. Everyone was sleeping. He came over and that was that. And he was supposed ID. He was supposed to stay here all night. Okay, >> you guys, I don't have anyone else to watch my kids. >> Do you have your ID on you? >> Yes, I do. >> Going work. >> Is there any other kids? They were saying there might be more kids. Is there any other kids? >> Yes, there's two inside sleeping. Yes. >> And my baby father is at a concert tonight, you know, >> and I paid someone to watch them so I could go riding for >> And who is this person you paid? >> Where's he at? >> He's in Melbourne. >> Mom claimed she had a reference for the babysitter, but couldn't explain where he was at the moment. As they walked to the house, she seemed more worried about what would happen to her than about the welfare of her two babies. >> You've been out in the compound. I can tell by dirt. >> Let's just make sure the kids are okay right now. >> We're making sure your children are safe inside right now. >> But what do I do? >> 284 to 112. Can you come out here? She's gone. >> Stay right there. >> We need to check on the kids. >> Oh my goodness. >> We're coming in with you. Okay, we got to make sure the kids are okay. >> Jesus, they're here, right? >> They're sleeping. I >> I I got to lay eyes on them. >> Get Get pants on him. >> Oh my god. >> Yeah, there's two little kids. >> What do I do? >> I just need your ID, ma'am. >> You guys, >> I poop a toilet. Very good, baby. And he's severely autistic. >> I know. >> I can't believe. >> Hang on. >> Do you have his number? I need a >> Oh my gosh. I don't even have his number. I just have his Snapchat, you guys. Oh my god. >> So, can you show me proof that he was ever here? >> Oh my god. Yes. >> The officers were determined to find out whether the babysitter was even there, but that proved more difficult than it seemed. They didn't have his number and he wasn't responding on Snapchat >> and he sent me a picture of him here and he was hanging out smoking on the back porch. >> So he sent you a picture. So you never saw him here? >> Yes. Yes, he came here. And >> why were you saying he sent you a picture of him? >> Cuz he sent me a picture of him smoking out on the on the back like just sent me a picture like cuz I asked how things were on the Snapchat. >> Can you show me that photo? >> No, it's a Snapchat. It says delivered and then as soon as you open it, it undelivers. >> Okay. Oh my god. And someone told me that he was on drugs. Someone told me that. >> And you still wanted him to watch your three children. >> No. Like cuz I know him for a long time. He used to be a hockey player. Like he used to be really like good like a good person. Like my friend [music] with him for 2 and 1/2 years. Like she used to watch her kids all the time. And I just I wanted to babysit her. I paid him 40 bucks. He came here. He was hanging out. All the kids I put the kids to sleep at like 7:30 8:00. And I left. I went out to town and that was like and then she called me a little bit ago and I rushed here. I rushed home. >> The officer started to doubt whether there even was a babysitter involved. They asked the mother if she had receipts for the $40 she gave him, but she claimed she paid in cash. Her claims were starting to sound untrue. >> How often does he watch your kids? >> This is the first time ever because I wanted a babysitter. >> So you messaged When was the last time you've ever seen him? >> The last I just seen him a couple days ago. I I've been able to He's just a good friend of mine. I knew >> You got to look at this from our point of view. You said you just hired a dude. You don't have his phone number. >> I knew him for a long time. >> You know, he's taking apparently and he's never been over here and you just left him with three of your children. >> No. No, not at all. That's what you just told me. >> This is okay. >> And he's a good friend of mine. He dated my best friend for a long time >> and he used to watch her kids. [music] >> This is the first night that I needed a babysitter. So I called him and I was like, "Hey, if I gave you $40, you think you could sat sit at the house while they sleep >> while they sleep while I go >> ride in the compound? >> Ride in the compound for and usually takes me a couple of hours, >> okay, >> to be honest." And that was that. And then he last I knew, he sent me a picture, a video at 10:39 of him sitting out on my front porch. Look >> it. >> No, because it's cat. It's It's a >> It's Snapchat. The officer explained that without any proof that the babysitter was hired, children's services would have to get involved. But after she admitted to having several drinks before going out for a ride, it became a DUI investigation on top of child [music] neglect. >> You guys only ever talk on Snapchat? >> All the time. Yeah, all the time. All the time we talk all the time. We just went to the mall the other day. >> Did you Did you have messages of you guys um like coordinating him being here tonight or was that um like an inerson interaction? That was through Snapchat, which it opens and then it >> Oh, you guys don't have your chat. Say, just hang out here for a minute. Turn off my light. >> We'll go get it in a second. Has he ever got up before or is he >> um He's a runner. Yeah. >> Yeah. >> He lopes. >> Yes. >> That's why I know never to >> Yeah. Don't Don't leave him alone. >> No, no, no. I can't do anything. I can't do anything. >> Just run me through it one more time. What time did you What time did Eli get here? >> Around like 8:30. And you left at 8:30. >> Like, yeah. >> I'm It's just It's hard for me to believe you right now. I don't think Eli was ever here at this point because you're all over the place with him. >> No, he got here around 8:30. He got here around 8:30 and we hung out and I drank a couple teas with him in my garage and all my kids were sleeping. >> It was reasonable for the officers to be suspicious. The woman claimed the babysitter was her good friend. They spoke all the time, but she had no way of contacting him except through Snapchat. Also, she was aware he might be doing drugs. Yet, she left him to take care of her kids. It was all too strange for the officers to just let it go. >> Okay, just put your hands behind your back for me. >> What are we going to do with my kids, though? >> My dog. >> We're going to figure that out. >> Can we at least contact someone? >> Yeah. Oh, yeah. We're calling DCF. >> This is insane right now, you guys. Why am I being arrested though? >> Child neglect. >> But my kids were with a babysitter. >> Well, no one else saw the kids with a babysitter. And he left. So, you need to find a more reliable babysitter next time than possibly some >> He's not on I don't Oh my god. >> He was fine when he All right. Come on, dear. We're going to go this way. >> In the end, the grandparents stepped in to take care of the children. Their mom was charged with three counts of child neglect without great bodily harm. She later bonded out for $2,500. [music] If convicted on all charges, she could face up to 15 years in prison. Thank you for watching The Untold Files.
