Why? Because you are intoxicated. I got to pull you over to the point where you are so drunk you're not understanding what we're trying TO DO. >> OH, I CAN UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING. We have been here for 35 minutes. We You want to watch the video for 35 minutes? >> I understand what you're telling me. What are you doing up at Charlie's Pub? Okay. Okay, well they're the ones that called. They were concerned about you being able to drive safely. Some mothers convince themselves that a quick stop won't hurt. But when it comes to leaving kids alone in a hot car, those few minutes can lead to disaster fast. And that's exactly what unfolds when a dumb mother thinks leaving her kids alone in a hot car is no big deal. You good, sweetheart? Isn't it cool back here? Yeah? Hi. There we go. Better? Hi. On September 14th, 2025, in Sunrise, Florida, a routine shopping trip to Walmart took a disturbing turn when a bystander noticed multiple children left alone in a vehicle on a hot summer's day. After pulling the children from the vehicle, she called police who were quickly dispatched to the scene. the park right there. So, I'm trying to run. I put my stuff in the car and I see him like saying there's kids in the car. He screaming there's kids in the car and I see him like by the window. Okay. So, when you approached the car >> So, when I come across there I had to water my hands. So, when I was like, "What's going on?" And that's when he was like, "There's kids in the car." So, I was like, you know, everybody's standing around. And when you looked inside the car, what did you see? >> So, when I I just pulled the door cuz I already They was already saying there's kids in the car. I pulled the back door open and as soon as I opened up the door I see a big that pink and gray car seat. [music] It was like flipped. Almost like if the back seats were folded down. >> The The back seat was Okay. So, but it's down, but it's not it can't go all the way down cuz my they got it's obstructing it. The car seat is obstructing that and she's like you can tell she must have been on that side of the car because the way her body was. Remember this side I'm pulling her out. So, you see how the car parked. I'm pulling her across. The first little baby was down on the floor when I first opened the door. >> So, who was the first child you The one that I had sitting in the with the poop on him, the one that I sit inside the basket. Okay. I sit him in there first. >> So, you grabbed him I picked him up and did what I had to do. >> cart. So, yeah, and I almost like kind of like cuz he's soaking wet like like the And was he sweating? Sweating, cold, drenched, pissy. >> like almost out of breath? He was like he was about to go to sleep. So, that's what the man was like, "Ooh, he I think they're tired." I was like he's hot. Like you could tell. The woman was a hero. It was possible that her quick thinking may have saved multiple lives. Heat and suffocation could easily lead to fatal outcomes. She told the officers that when she pulled the children from the vehicle, she doused them with cold water as they were covered in sweat. They're all they're all in a chunk, correct? Correct. They're come I'm putting right So, you pulled the first one on the floor. Like he was down on the floor. So, you reached from the back seat into the trunk, grabbed the baby out from the trunk. So, I had his >> Yeah. Yeah, so when I did I had to kind of you know to grab him. Yeah. And then you after you put him in the shopping cart >> him in this and then I try to put him in the front of the shopping cart. >> saw the little girl. >> And then the little girl I put I I pulled the little girl out. She was uncovering him. That's why I didn't know there was another baby in there. The second one I took out. >> came out you saw another baby. And that's why I was like, "Oh my what the They have no clothes on, but they got a bleach chemical smell to them." When the officers caught up with the children's mother, she was going to have a lot of explaining to do. From the sounds of things, it looked like the officers were dealing with an extreme case of child neglect. So, another thing I wanted like kind of confirm. When you came up to the vehicle before anybody else had came, did you notice the car was on or off? It was off. >> Completely off. The engine wasn't running? I had the little girl had the phone so I immediately when I saw a phone in her hand I said, "Oh, let's try to call your mom." I said, "Oh, you got the phone and the keys to the car?" She's like, "Yeah." >> she had the keys then? The little baby got the keys. So, the lady with the purse took the little girl with the keys. The little girl had the keys in her hand the whole time, but they already in the trunk. Yeah. The car was not on. So, it was you would say that there was definitely more than like a 30-minute period they were inside that car by themselves? >> I had Listen, >> Based on the I saw them turn around and pull them out. I don't pulled up. >> Yeah. I saw them standing in front of the store. I'm in Walmart 25 I'm going to say 30 minutes. We talking picking up my items, waiting in line to pay for my stuff. Yeah. And I'm outside, walk over there to my car within 2-minute time frame. Like I said, my phone rang 3:35, but they're already over here on the phone with you guys. So, make it make sense. While the officer continued questioning the good Samaritan, other officers were busy dealing with the children's neglectful mother. And although she had an excuse for everything, the woman who saved the kids wasn't about to let her get away with lying to the officers. Okay, so you left them in the car by themselves. No. So, why did she rip out the babies out of the car seat? Rip out what kids? Did you go inside? She only ripped out the 7-year-old. The door was so what happened was I seen She's the one that took the keys. I opened I opened I'm just showing you what it looked like when I opened it. Look like this. I seen one baby with him. Yeah. First. Okay. >> out and then after that I realized it was another baby. So, you but you seen them in the car by themselves. Yeah, they was in in the she I got her out and when I when I pulled her out that's when I seen that one. So, it must have been when she came to get me to get my car. >> No, so because they wasn't in the car alone. No, but they were alone for long enough for multiple people >> So, when she got her that baby You having a bad day. >> so we was like let's just go try to find the mom cuz they was already on the phone with the police. You know, you so stupid. I said, "What's the phone?" Oh, you So with all this being said, you left your kids alone. Hold on, leave them alone. I went in the store to get her the car. I went in there to get her my bank card. She >> But you have to No, but you have to understand. You left them alone long enough for multiple people to call for their well-being. It is what it is, right? It was absolutely despicable behavior, especially coming from a mother. They were in South Florida and temperatures had exceeded 90°, but even though she was caught red-handed neglecting her children, the suspect's friend tried to cover for her. Well, were you the one that was watching the kids? >> Yes, I'm saying while she went inside? Yes. Wow. No, she was right here watching them. I asked her to watch them for me while I go get her No, I was watching them. I told her to watch them for me while I go get her cuz I'm like he's doing too much. He's messing up everything for no no reason. There's nothing wrong >> watching them, too? Was the car on or off? The car was off. I had the kids. The audacity. The mother's friend was basically saying that the woman who pulled the children out of the vehicle should have just minded her own business. It was an insane thing to say considering her quick thinking may very well have saved the children's lives. >> I'm going to explain to you I have I have two witnesses. Mom to mom cuz I have a 5-year-old. I have two witnesses that called 911. Your kids were found in the trunk of the car Oh, yes. They play in the trunk of the car. They wasn't found in no trunk of the car. >> You know, that's how they got noticed cuz they heard a Yeah, cuz they be playing in the trunk. You can ask my daughter right No, no, no, I don't care. I don't care. I don't care about that. You can ask my daughter. They always be playing in the trunk. In 90° weather? The car was on. No, it wasn't. >> I swear to you. You can ask my child. She can tell you the My on. Okay, but you can ask my daughter. That car was >> The car was on. She's 7. I'm talking to you. It doesn't matter what she says. You can ask them. They're going to ask my daughter questions and she's going to tell them it's my fault. >> going to let you talk to two grown adults. Not a 7-year-old. >> taking my my story either. Y'all just taking their side. Yeah, but not for long. The officers weren't about to let the suspect cry her way out of this one. They knew that she had left her children unattended for 37 minutes and they weren't about to let her off with simply a slap on the wrist. So, I'm trying to help you out. >> No, because I told them I You don't have any family members? I told her that I was not going to go in the store. But because I had to use the bathroom, I actually I still didn't even go in my purse or my I've never been to no jail. We know. We know. But you need to call a family member. Cuz I don't They can't go with her because her criminal history is way too long. Okay? So, I'm trying to help you find a family member to go with her. Do you understand? I cannot go to jail. I I want you to Okay, look. It's either It's either you can find a family member >> I mean, I'm not going to have much of a choice. Can I please speak to the sergeant, please? I have rights that I can speak to the sergeant, please? Yeah. The suspect could speak to the sergeant, but it wouldn't do her any good. As the officers prepared to take her to jail, they attended to her children while waiting for a relative to come pick them up. Here you go, sweetheart. Is it cool back here? Yeah? Hi. There we go. Better? Hi. So, we need a father. >> [snorts] >> They don't have a father. He in jail. >> Okay, ma'am. Well, I don't I don't know that. I don't know what Yeah, but that's what you need to understand that I'm a single parent. I take care of my kids by myself. Okay. Is there right now any other family member that can come here? Who? Who is this? Their grandmother. Okay. I'll talk to her. What's her name? I'm going to call >> I will talk to her. What's her name? Well, how you going to ask me >> What is her name? All right. What's her name? Miss Hazel. Okay. Can you please have her leave now so that way you can get over here as soon as possible? I am. Okay. All right. She's coming. >> The woman was charged with three counts of child neglect without great bodily harm. She was transported to jail where she posted bond and was subsequently released. On February 12th, 2023, police officers were dispatched to a Walmart parking lot after reports that two young children had been left alone in an unlocked running vehicle while their parents shopped. When officers arrived on the scene, they secured the children and immediately began searching for their parents. I see you. Here. So, we have two central I have two babies in the backseat and the um engine's running. They are like under one and the doors are unlocked. So, I [music] I got my eyes on them. They look okay. If you still want to send FD just in case. >> Thank you so much for calling in. 101. 101. Um can you get the complainant 14 chance to go? I'm just going to watch the babies here. >> [music] >> She's right there with the glasses. You can just set the time frame for me. Okay. Okay. Thankfully, the vehicle was unlocked allowing the officers access to the children without breaking a window. At the same time, it highlighted the parents' negligence even more. With the children safe, the officers turned their attention to locating their parents. I wonder if they could do an announcement in the store. Hey, can you come here? Do you guys have an ability to do announcements in the store? Like they could call people on the loudspeaker? I mean, they could do that. I don't have the ability. You got to go ask someone in there. I'm going to go get management. Uh sure, yes, please. Yes, please. Actually, we're going to give you the driver's name cuz this goes back to a rental. The driver is a female. Okay, so Person driving black Toyota and this is him. He's always in here, too. Oh, is he? Yeah, he's a regular. What happened on my security? Yeah, call came out at 12:28. Walmart's trying to appease him cuz he found his license in the parking I never heard of it they didn't show up. Did you have that? No, but I'm just wondering if we get a phone call about a stolen vehicle. Did you see that driver? Yeah. Okay. Well, if you did something this What would it be like? stupid I don't know. You walked out and you saw the police cars and a fire truck. Do you want to get arrested or do you want to go? Hey, I'm at home in Boca and I stopped [music] in the store and somebody stole my car. So, nothing. They chased him and everything. Somebody's going to jail. It's been 30 minutes. It's been 30 minutes since this call came in. And you've been here 20. What if the car cuts off? We're going to be waiting all day. Till someone walks up to this car. We'll probably be waiting longer. Guys, say they don't come. Are you guys able to transport the kids somewhere or do you want us to get a rescue transport them? We'll call you back. Yeah, I mean, we'll hang out for a little bit. At some point, somebody's going to walk back up to this car, I would hope. But as soon as they do, it don't matter. The parents had already left their children unattended for 40 minutes at that point. One thing was for certain, when they did show up, they were going to be in for a big surprise. And after a few more minutes of waiting, the children's father casually approached the officers. How are you? Sorry, how are you? Yeah, we've been back and forth, me and the wife going in there. You and the wife? Yeah, we back and forth. You were in there? Yes. Okay, put your hands behind your back. Excuse me. Sorry. So, you and your wife were inside? Yeah. Okay, you guys can't leave the babies in the car by yourself. Yeah, we've been back and forth. You've been here for a long time. We've been here for about 30 minutes. We haven't been in there for 30 minutes. Sir, we have been here for 30 minutes. Where's your wife? She's inside? Yes. She's coming out? Yes. She needs to come out. Is there any particular reason why you just can't put them in the car and bring them out? >> We've been back and forth. We've been in the car for 35 minutes. I've been in there for 35 We have been here for 35 minutes, which I have >> Do you want to watch the video for 35 minutes? I got I understand what you're telling me. As the officer said, they knew full well that the husband and wife had not been going back and forth to check on the children, as the officers themselves have been attending to the children for the past 35 minutes. The doors are open. What if somebody kidnapped them? Like I said, we've been back and forth. Can I call her and tell her she needs to leave the stuff and come out? All right. Let's try to get the mom's phone number so we can call her and have her come out. Do you have your phone on you? All right, we're going to call. Hi, Shel Dar. Are you inside Walmart? >> Yes. Okay, you need to come outside immediately, okay? All right. We got this call at 12:28, okay? That's the time that [music] a concerned citizen called in and told us, "Hey, there's two children in the car left unattended, okay?" You made contact with us at 1:11 [music] p.m., okay? That's over 40 minutes, okay? That those children were left unattended, and you did not come out and check because we've been here the whole time. I I I I can't. Okay, you understand? Do you understand what's happening now, right? >> Yeah. Okay, so you're going to go. We're going to contact DCF. Do you have local family that could take the children? Yes. We'll talk about that. Finally, it seemed like the officers had gotten through to him. That said, they shouldn't have had to explain to a full-grown man why he couldn't leave his children unattended in a vehicle on a hot summer's day. With the man secured in the back of the police cruiser, the officers continued to wait for his wife, Shelida, to show up. >> Are you going to get the baby? Okay. Ma'am, I need you to put your hands behind your back. Put your hands behind your back. Do you have anything in your pocket? Anything in your bra? Ma'am, are those your children? Uh do you want me to Miranda her, have her put her in my car, and take a statement from her? Uh no, that's fine. Okay. All right. All right, I'm going to I'm going to have you walk over to my car with me. So, we were called out here because um we received a complaint about a baby crying in a car. A citizen heard the baby screaming, and they looked and saw it was the two babies by themselves. They didn't see any adults around, so they called police. We came, we stood by for over 30 minutes to see if anybody would come. Since nobody came, this is what we got. We tried to do everything to find you guys. We walked around Walmart, they paged, we couldn't find you guys. It's been over 30 minutes, and now you guys your husband just now walked out, okay? So, that's that's the reason why why we're here. He's over there, he's in the back of the police car with my partner, okay? >> So, where are the babies? The babies are they're in the car. We got the the fire department is just checking them out, making sure they're okay, but they're still in the car. Your other little boy, he's over there in the car, too, with the fire with the medics. Okay. The officers read both suspects their Miranda rights. However, they refused to answer any more questions without a lawyer present. Before being transported to the police station, the male suspect arranged for his sister to come pick up the children. Are you Yes, I am. Okay. Do you have your ID card on you? We just have to confirm who you are before we release the kids. So, what's going to happen to them now? Your brother and his wife Yeah. They're going to get processed. They're going to go up to county jail. They're going to go see a judge, and then um they'll either get released, or they'll have a bond. >> So, how long is it going to take? Uh it's up to the jail. It could be as early as tomorrow. It could be a couple of days. How are they doing now? One is in the uh car there. This officer has one, and one is in the car seat. How is she doing? Yeah, she's good. Okay. I'm going to go in. Let me see it. Say cheese. Oh, that's a nice one. All right, here's the key to the car, and then here's the baby's bottle. Thank you. Both suspects were transported to jail. At the same time, other officers remained to review surveillance footage with Walmart security personnel. This way, when the case went to court, the suspects' claim that they had returned to the vehicle in shifts to check on the children would be proven false. So, we made you aware that we were investigating incident that where children were left in the vehicle, right? Okay, and you assisted us by locating the video surveillance. Okay. Can you explain to me what you located on the video surveillance? I see you have some notes here. Can you explain this to me? Yes, I I was like reviewing the CCTV, and I saw when the guy left. And when I saw the when the guy left, and I backtrack, and I saw like when when he came with his car and parked his car. He parked in the parking lot around like 12:04. Okay. And then, so when he was leaving the store to go back with his car, he was around like, you know, 13:11. And I saw him like walking like toward his car, and that was when like the officer like happened and like, you know, Okay. So, I just want to confirm. So, he arrived in the parking lot, according to your notes, and you're reviewing the CCTV. He arrived in the parking lot, he parked there. What kind of vehicle was he in? It was a black SUV. >> Black SUV. Okay. So, he arrived at 12:04. He he physically walked in the store at 12:08. >> 12:08. And then, the next time you see him leaving the store was at 13:11. >> 13:11. And that's when police made contact with him. Yes. The video surveillance doesn't show any of them leaving the store to go to the car and come back. >> No. The The last time you saw them leaving the car, leaving the store is when we made contact with them, right? Okay, perfect. And is this a copy of the video for me? Okay. All right, thank you. The suspects were charged with two counts of child neglect and two counts of leaving children unattended in a motorized vehicle. On August 21st, 2024, police officers with the Ocala Police Department were dispatched to an elementary school following reports that a mother had shown up drunk to pick up her children. Hey. I was just going to have somebody come pick her up or her child, but once I seen the car and um it's too small. No. Hey, relax. Take a deep breath. Just relax. Do you know what city you were in? Um New York. Is that Is that your address or license? No, I'm just kidding. Okay. I just got to ask these legal questions. I don't I'm not here to bother you. Mhm. If you'd like me to leave, you answer these questions and I will leave. I'm just I just got to ask these questions, okay? I mean, I'm okay with that. Okay, one question. Do you live in the residence? Uh I'm not sure, but it was constantly getting tight. Let's be honest, in any other context, her answers were amusing. But unfortunately, this was no laughing matter. The suspect, Morgan, wasn't just anywhere. She had driven her vehicle clearly intoxicated to a public school to pick up her children. And worse, she had left her baby in the car to do so. There's a baby. Sorry. Hey, you okay? Hey, sweetie. She had already made contact. She's about to get marched in acts. Let me do this figure it out. SIT DOWN. >> [screaming] >> SIT DOWN NOW. SIT DOWN. GIVE ME MY ALL RIGHT, SO NOW you're going to get out of control. WHERE IS MY KID? >> [screaming] >> YOU'RE ABOUT TO WHERE IS MY KID? I DON'T CARE. WHERE IS THE KID? TURN AROUND. STAND UP. >> WE'RE GOING TO PUT her under a March man act. Okay. Can you tell me where my kid is? Yep, I have him. Don't worry. Where? You. Him? Give me your arm. >> Okay, you going to get tased. Where are they? You're about to get tased. Hold on. Can you You can do it the easy way or do it the hard way. So listen. Why? Cuz Oh my god, Ocalis. Ew, you're ugly. Why? The Marchman Act is a Florida law allowing for involuntary court-ordered assessments, stabilization, and treatment for adults or youth with a severe substance use disorder. And Morgan met the criteria to a T. Why? Because right now you're being placed under a Marchman Act. Why? BECAUSE YOU ARE INTOXICATED. >> a good I am a good girl. You're to the point where you are so drunk you're not understanding what we're TRYING TO DO. >> OH, I UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING BUT YOUR LANGUAGE. >> So listen to what I'm saying. Who do you want to come get the baby? Do you have a mom? My mom. Do you have a mom? No. Okay, so do you have a sister? No. Do you have a family member that can come and get this baby? No. Okay. Where is the baby's father? No, he's in Massachusetts. No. It must be nice to be nice. The last thing the officers wanted to do was traumatize Morgan's children further by placing them in the custody of CPS. The first thing police always do in these cases is look for a responsible family member before resorting to state intervention. You have nobody that you can call to get your kids? Who can we call? I could, but I can't do it on the cops. All right, what's the number? I don't know. But your phone is not in the car. >> I can't do anything when I'm on cops. Ma'am, your phone is not in the car. It totally is. It I'm telling you there is no What's your number? I'll call it. What's your What's your phone number? The officers were trying to help, but Morgan wasn't in a state to accept it. They knew her phone wasn't in the car because when they discovered her baby, they conducted a brief search. Let me go get my phone. No, you're not going to the car. You're under a Marchman Act. Ambulance is coming, going to take you to the hospital. For what? Because you're under a Marchman Act. YOU'RE DRUNK. >> GOING TO THE >> [screaming] >> HOSPITAL. >> YES, YOU ARE. FOR WHAT? OH, it's because you made me mad. >> you're in because you're intoxicated and you're so intoxicated you're not thinking right now. So, where is your phone? >> you do that to somebody? I don't have a phone. >> your phone number? What is your phone number? Well, you don't have the money to go to jail either. So, that's where we're at in the right now. Oh, you're [ __ ] What is your phone number? It sounds like 0800 Okay, what is your phone number so we can find your phone? >> It doesn't matter at this point, right? Well, it does because you still have two kids, so they can either go into CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES OR or we can have somebody come get them from school. Instead of helping the officers locate her phone so she could contact a family member, she continued to hurl abuse at them instead. Unfortunately for Morgan, the officers patience would only extend so far before they would give up and contact CPS. YOU! YOU! IT MUST BE HAPPY TO SMILE, you god damn ugly ass. What What are you? 40 or 50? Oh, no, I'm Ooh, you're good. I'm close. Yeah. I am close. You really tried. You really tried. I'm Thank you. Oh, you tried. >> Yes, we just want to find your phone so you can use that to call somebody to >> I have you had girls written 123 your third offense. This is YOUR THIRD OFFENSE. >> MY [screaming] KIDS! THEN WHY DON'T WE GET SOME help for them? >> NO HELP WHEN YOU send them to [ __ ] DCS. Then let's not do that. What What's the option? >> So, we are trying to find your phone so you can contact someone so they can help pick them up for you. Let me go over there. I don't know. I don't know. The client officer has told you multiple times. I DON'T KNOW. YOU CAN walk me with my >> remember your phone number? I do, but I know Tracy's stupid So, give it to him. The officers had no choice but to contact CPS. Eventually, EMS arrived on the scene to render medical assistance, but not before Morgan had one last outburst leading to another charge she couldn't take back. Stop touching me. I want to kill this Can you just How far do you want to take this? So, I don't care. I'M I'M STOP TOUCHING [screaming] YOU'RE ABOUT TO GO TO JAIL. NOW, STOP IT. I UNDERSTAND YOU'RE INTOXICATED, BUT STOP. >> [screaming] >> LET ME GO TO JAIL. LET GO! YOU'RE NOT GOING TO GO TO JAIL CUZ YOU'RE GOING TO GET A BATTERY on me. Oh, cool. Cool. Once she was cleared by EMS, she was transported to the hospital where she continued to make a scene. According to reports, she became so violent with the medical staff that the officers had no choice but to transport her to jail. I'm going to FIGHT YOU. >> [screaming] >> HEY! >> [laughter] >> YOU WANT TO FIGHT ME, BABY? I'LL TAKE THAT RIGHT NOW. APPARENTLY, I'm terrible. Oh, you don't you don't got to be terrible. What? >> You don't got to be terrible. No. No. Just have a bad attitude. Let go! Let go of my arm, [ __ ] That's why she's got the leg cuffs on her. Let go of my arm, [ __ ] That one we got to the hospital, [screaming] we did the same thing. TAKE IT OFF. PLEASE. BATTERY ON an Leo. >> [screaming] >> Please, let go of my arm. Please, let go of my arm. So, everything's stationary right now cuz they're trying to get the blood results because she was not cooperative at the hospital, so they discharged her. Um so, you can just go. I'll be here for a little bit. I know. >> Morgan was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer. She was sentenced to 36 months of probation, ordered to pay over $1,000 in fines and fees, and required to perform 80 hours of community service. On July 19th, 2025, police officers were dispatched to a movie theater parking lot after a mother called to report that she had accidentally locked her keys in the car along with her child. You got to function. >> [music] >> I don't She's been in there like 30 minutes already. Here you want. You got one? Go ahead. I know, baby. Go to other side. Other side. Other side. You got fire? 37 if you just locked your last fire in this child been in the car for about 30 minutes. Um vehicle's not running in the heat. Come here baby. 30 minutes man? Yeah, hey come here. >> Why would you wait 30 minutes to call us? She's okay. I was trying to get her to open the door. I know, come here baby. I didn't have my phone. I know you didn't. Yeah, you guys can go ahead and go with her. The mother was on scene when the officers broke the window and rescued her child. Astonishingly, she had waited for over 30 minutes to contact the police after realizing she had locked her keys in the vehicle. She she was trying to get her to unlock the door and she left her phone in the theater and she didn't want to run back in to get it. So so she is right there. I don't know if it's open. You can you want to try it? It's not open. It's not open. They're trying to keep this There's AC in there. They're trying to keep the air inside. Okay, cuz it's hot. I just wanted to make sure cuz I know I didn't call instantly cuz I was trying to get her to open the door. I didn't have my phone on me. My phone was stuck inside the theater. And you need stuff like >> Like it was inside. I didn't have nobody was out here to help me like call or anybody and she was fine like she was okay in the beginning. So the theater is open. Why would you not walk up to the window [music] right there and tell them to call 911 for you? Cuz I was trying to get her to open the door. Cuz in the beginning she was fine. She was laughing. She was playing. I was like of course, but after 30 minutes in a over 100 degrees, how do you think that's going to affect her? She didn't seem to understand the urgency of the situation. Most mothers would have begged a stranger or been willing to do anything to get a hold of the police immediately. Needless to say, the officers were stunned by her negligence. She's here at the theater or whatever just going to see a [music] movie watching a movie. She locked herself in the car. So instead of her phone is already inside the theater somehow, but the baby never made it into the theater. So, baby locks herself [music] inside the car. So, instead of calling 911 immediately or going to summon help from the window, she tries to get the baby to unlock the door. So, baby's not unlocking the door. So, she doesn't want to leave the baby to go inside to get her phone to call 911. Doesn't want to walk up to the window to get the concierge to let her call 911. So, instead waits 30 minutes with this child in this not running hot hot hot car. Standing here at the window trying to talk baby into unlocking the door. >> The officers needed more answers from the mother, but instead of being honest, she just gave them excuse after excuse. Something wasn't adding up and the officers were going to get to the bottom of it. in the vehicle for? I don't know exactly. I estimate like maybe 10 to 30 minutes. I don't know. I didn't have my phone on me. I don't know what was going Okay, why was she in the vehicle alone? She was in the vehicle because we she was crying in the movie theater. So, I took us outside and I sat in the I sat us in the truck. The doors were open when I Her door was closed cuz I didn't want her to get out and run in the road, but the door was open and I We were sitting in the truck. I got out to bring us back inside because it was hot. So, I closed my door and I went around, but she locked the doors when I went around to go get her and then she locked herself in the truck. I didn't have my phone on me to call anybody and I didn't want to leave her out here by herself while I went inside to try and get help from somebody cuz I didn't Anything could happen in the time that I go from here to there. If somebody sees me like and I get in my truck to go see her like what what am I going to do? The child accidentally locking herself in the car was believable. It was how long her mother waited to contact the authorities that was baffling. Eventually, her brother arrived on the scene to offer moral support, but it was more likely that he would be asked to look after her child if and when the officers decided to take her to jail. Oh, please, no. Not right now. Not right now. I'm about to go ahead and have them fill her up cuz she's getting more agitated and I don't want her to choose She's 100% needs to go to jail. What do you think? Yep, we'll do that. You want to go ahead and advise her that she's going to be 10-15 and Yeah. All right, so I told her to hold on. All right, turn around for me. All right. All right, turn around for me. All right, turn around for me. Good. And find your back. Thank you. All right. Take your ticket stub and your money. Yeah. She's going to be going to jail today for child endangerment. Okay, that's fine. Surprisingly, she took the news rather well. But although she told the officers one thing, the staff at the movie theater told them a completely different version of events. It was beginning to look like she had left her child in the vehicle while she finished watching the movie. She never watched the movie. They came out to the lobby and then they left. So, the kid was kind of like walking around the lobby and stuff. So, I noticed that she brought the kid outside. She came back in. She brought She came outside again, but I wasn't aware if she like came back in or not again. So, when she came out, did she have the baby with her? And you Did she come back in with the baby or was the baby First time, no. She came back in She came in not with the baby as well. Okay, did she ever say anything to y'all? Never mention like She didn't She didn't notice us or anything like that. Okay. Did she look like she was in a panic or anything like that? Or didn't look like she was any type of distress? Were the other children the other kids those two older ones were they with y'all when that happened? >> No. Or with her when that happened, I'm sorry. They were not Were they still in the movie or I do not I don't >> Just don't recall seeing them? She was wearing shorts walked out like twice and like They a small us, And none of them said >> None of them said anything to us. They didn't do anything to us. They kind of Now I was talking to them. Like I saw them standing there next to their car and I'm thinking it looked from where I was it looked like the window was down and they were just chit-chatting with whoever was in the vehicle. So like I'm thinking that another reason that happens all the time. So >> the time frame there? Um that would have been about 30 minutes ago that I saw the boy walking in and out. When was the last time you seen the child or she walked out with the child? I going to guess 20 minutes ago. Probably what she said about 30 minutes time lapse. The baby was and the baby was already hot to the touch. So >> It sounded like the baby was causing a commotion inside the theater. The mom wanted to finish watching the movie. So she placed the child in the vehicle and had her brother go back and forth to check on her. And eventually at some point the keys became locked in the vehicle. So you left from here after she got locked in the car, you left from here and went back inside? No. Okay. You're standing out here the whole time. >> Yes, I was standing out here the whole time. Okay. You Did you try to flag anybody down? Hey, can you call 911? And No cuz no there was nobody out here to like that I could get down get to. And I was trying to get her to unlock the door cuz she knows how to unlock the door. She was just didn't want to. Okay. If she if she wouldn't unlock the door, how come you didn't just run inside real quick to the desk and say hey call 911 my kids locked in the car? >> I didn't want to leave her out here by herself. >> have been 2 seconds rather than how long? 30 minutes? I don't know how long it was. That's what I'm saying, see? You don't have no You said be You said between 10 and 30 minutes, right? Between 10 and 30 minutes rather 2 minutes and then 5 minutes response to you immediately or 10 minutes standing here at the car staring at it through the glass. You put Okay. Go ahead and show me. I'll get your items on the way out. Yeah. Sign your 918. I'm going to grab her items. Did you get her statement? >> get her statement. Okay. Do you guys have any Yeah. Her claims just didn't add up and her excuses just weren't good enough. The woman was charged with child neglect. On June 30th, 2024, police officers were dispatched to a residential neighborhood following reports that a child had been left alone in a car overnight. After freeing the child, the officers surveyed the neighborhood looking for the parents. Good morning. Do you know whose vehicle this is parked outside your house? >> That yellow and white Jeep, yeah. No. Is there any other families that stay here? No. Okay. All right. We're trying to There's a little girl in the vehicle. We're trying to figure out who who it belongs to. So, no idea? All right. Thank you. Can you imagine if they somebody didn't see this? This car's going to heat up. Are you okay? You want a sticker? Yeah. But they're all the windows are up, too. Yeah, they're all up. And the windows are hot, the kids are not up. Yeah, that's why I want 44 44 myself and I see her. My cell phone's at home. I want to see if I want to get her. I saw those green cameras on the house. Yep, there's a green camera right across the street. Eventually, the officers knocked on the child's grandmother's door. She told the officers that her daughter, the child's mother, lived nearby with her husband. However, she said she didn't know where they were at the moment, but it wasn't long before the officers eventually tracked them down. Police. Police. Sounded like something from inside. I don't know if it was the upper level or the lower. Hey, come outside. What are you What's your name? Sylvester. Sylvester? What How long have you been here? I don't know how long I've been living here. No, how long What time What time did you get home last night? Uh, I got home last night at 11:00. I'd say like around 11:00. 11:00 at night? And you haven't left this house since then, right? At all. When was the last time you drove your Yukon? It's not a Yukon. Or whatever it is. Your SUV, your black Tahoe. At this point, it's just your honesty that's going to help you. Your honesty is going to go a long way with everything and how this goes. It's just when you guys got home last night, I just forgot. She was sleeping in the swimming pool you guys have in your yard. You have more kids, right? >> We have eight We have In total, we have eight kids. Okay. And everybody like we got We got home like around almost 12:00 from Six Flags. We still had to find some food. We got everybody off, but I mean, everybody just started getting off at first, and I got some of the kids off, and he got off, and he got some of the kids off, so usually we like we work as a team, but I guess yesterday we must have been super tired, but After a long day from the theme park with their eight kids and arriving home super late at night, the couple claimed they must have been too tired to notice that one of their kids were still in the Tahoe. Although that was possible, it was still child neglect. You have eight kids in that apartment. I kind of think we should just take her and screen her. I think we should just take her. Cuz if we take both, then we got to You're right. We got to take care of them. She's 99, so she's got to go with me with us. We'll screen her. Yeah. And we'll see what the bosses want to do because we can always come back and pick him up. This isn't pertinent, but I'm just asking. Were you Were you guys drinking at all? I'm just trying I'm just trying to figure out how you guys were left it. No, no, no, no, we were not drinking. We were not drinking, but yesterday we were not drinking at all. We just dedicated our whole day to the kids from the morning to the like to the night time. Okay. We had people that were with us, too, at the flags. Okay. All right. Then what I'm going to have you do is I'm going to have you step out real quick just to confirm [music] that this is in fact your daughter. We want to start custody over them. So, you're good to come in. We're just going to make sure that this is affecting your child. My baby. Correct. Well, we're going to leave the child where she is right now. Yep. Okay. She's okay. She's okay. She's okay. All right. Can we have her put back in the car, please? >> [laughter] >> Okay. Go back in the car. Okay. Okay. It was unfortunate, but the situation could have been a lot worse. If the officers hadn't arrived when they did, morning would have turned into afternoon, and by that point, the heat could have caused devastating consequences. Have you ever had any DCFS involvement before? >> I did. What What did that entail? I'm sorry. What happened with that? They closed the case. Okay, so it's closed. Okay. I did what I had to, um, and they they closed it, so, you know, we've been doing good lately. This like I never thought this This has never happened to me, like never have I ever forgotten one of my kids in the car. We're We're going to work through this. I'll talk to them. Yep. The officers consulted amongst themselves to determine how to handle the situation. Seeing as the couple had eight kids, they wanted to leave the children in the custody of at least one parent while they took another to the station for further questioning. All right. So, she's 951 in Wisconsin. Yeah. Okay. So, they've got like nine kids though. She actually did it though. Yeah. So, the idea is we're going to book her. 100% >> screen it just for her, and then if this is straight up do him too, we can. They were together last night, but because of the eight kids situation, I'm comfortable just doing her for now. Yes. Who's taking custody of the kids? The dad. The grandma's here. She's going to come in. Okay. That's why we were talking about how to handle both of them. I would take both of them down? Okay. And screen it, give the kids to grandma if she's capable of taking them both. And then state screen decide who to take. You don't want to go get a get a warrant for him later cuz they're both in the car. They're both are for the kids. So, bring them both down. Just tell them it's a misdemeanor. They might charge you. They might do whatever, but we have to bring them both down for an investigation. That's it. Okay? Eventually, the officers determined that they needed to take both parents to the station as they were both equally responsible and the grandmother was there to care for their eight kids. 1101 and both. Okay. So if you can do me a favor, dude. Yep. Okay. All right. All right. You're just currently under arrest, all right? Just relax. Wait, let me get up. Wait, why are we arrested? What did I do? What did I do? I'll talk to you in a second. You did for their arrest, so y'all can't just arrest us. >> [crying] >> Maybe we can be right here. We just want to know why we're I'll talk to you in a second. [laughter] I got to talk to her first. Hey, make sure you get him so he gets some shoes and stuff, okay? Yep. Shoes and a shirt. Yep. Okay, so you you know you're being arrested for child endangerment. Does that mean you're going to be charged with that? Mhm. The state's attorney will will let us know, okay? Hey, it it happens, but you know, unfortunately, it is what it is, okay? Uh do you have anything hidden on you at all? No. >> [laughter and gasps] >> All right. The parents were devastated, but their feelings were outweighed by the seriousness of their mistake. The officers had children of their own, so understandably, they didn't hold back in expressing their disgust. We'll document that she's fully buckled in. Fully buckled in. Snot on her face from crying all night. >> Yep. I got I got a video of it. You got it. It's awful, bro. Yeah. Yeah, I get this This bothers me a lot. >> Mhm. >> We did literally video her and body cam video. I took my body cam, put it in there. Okay. She's fully buckled in. She's snot on her face and you know, she you can tell she's been crying for a while. Mhm. Um so just document that in your report. What's that? >> Her diaper is completely soiled. She's She's She's peed through the seat. Yep. How do you give kids back to these type of people, dude? They shat So, her drawers I told you her underwear's completely soiled. She's peed through the seat. So, you can document so you can see how what what state she's in. All wet. She's all wet. Dude, how do you not notice your 4-year-old? Your baby. You should notice your baby. >> And and you know, you got to put her to bed. Like, you know, at some point in the night you're like, "What I'm forgetting to do something." >> I'm guessing they were not in the right state of mind, clearly. Yeah. Both parents were arrested and charged with two class A misdemeanors, endangering a child and causing circumstances to endanger a child. On July 7th, 2024, police officers were dispatched to a mall parking lot following reports that children were left unattended in a vehicle while their mother ran errands. I pulled up and saw them. I asked if they were all right. They said they were all right. Yeah. She says she was in there for 5 minutes. She can explain what she wants. Okay. She, you know, I'm just here. And he had I thought I would get a ticket while in this situation. It took me more time to find my car in this big ass parking lot than it did to get my food. Okay. But The sheriff found the food. She did. Okay. I don't know how you got down Maybe 4 minutes. It wasn't an hour. It wasn't, you know, But he gets He was sweating and not sweating. He He said he was sweating, but she said they were cool. He was sweating cuz we just got out of the swimming pool. His clothes are still wet. The mother said she left her children in the vehicle alone because they were asleep and she didn't want to wake them. She said she didn't plan on being gone long, but claimed she got lost in the parking lot on her way back. It took me longer to find my car. All I kept doing was this cuz this parking lot bigger than me. You see my plates are North Dakota. I just moved back out here. So I'm not familiar with this mall. I'm not. So yes, I'm I'm sorry, but no, like I didn't nothing. I'm still sorry. >> do you think you were gone for? It wasn't long at all. I don't know. I just know it wasn't long at all. 5 10 15 20 minutes? No, not no 10 15 20 minutes. No, not at all. But I mean hey, I mean as y'all can tell he's not you feel me? He looked a little funny, but I don't know if it's I mean it's the window's down. Yeah, you you got to understand you can't leave your kids unattended like I understand. I just want to go in there and grab your food. All right. Is that their food? >> [laughter] >> Wait, their food? Yeah, yeah, but okay. Okay. Although she said she didn't leave her children alone for more than 10 minutes, the officers weren't going to just take her word for it. So they turned to mall security asking them to review the surveillance tapes. In the meantime, they continued questioning the suspect. So it took you a while to find where you were going in there? What you mean? Like to get the car out? >> it's so big like took you a while [laughter] to I'm like it's confusing as hell. I'm steady walking past it. It's right there by the front. It's right there by the front of the mall. That's why I had to ask the guy stop to ask you about it. I literally went in there, my phone died. I had to put my phone on the charger and literally came out cuz they got the fast charger after like not even a whole minute. Paid for my food, then I came back out here was steady doing this. I wasn't nowhere near my car cuz it didn't go off. Then I see her truck and I'm like, "Hmm, I'm going to go ask her to come help me find my car." Next thing you know, she's telling me that they done called y'all to come get my kids. While the officers waited for store security to review the tapes, the woman became increasingly agitated almost as if she knew what was coming. Unfortunately for her, all she was doing was making the officers suspicious that she had something to hide. I never left my baby. I never just left them there and just disowned my kids. I take my kids with >> not saying you disowned them. We're just saying that you abandoned them for a a while. >> I abandoned them? Yeah, you left them to How How old is he? I'm not going to argue with you. Okay, I'm not going to argue with No, he's eight he's nine months. He'll be nine months on the 13th. Even worse then. When he's sleeping in a car when it was just raining we just came out of the pool. You see what I'm saying? You say you're a mandated reporter then you should know this inside and out. That is complete neglect to leave a nine-month-old in a car that is unlocked in this heat. And leave him. That is It wasn't hot. That's that's why I kept him in the car. It was literally raining after we got out of the pool. Exactly. Now I do. You do? Yes, I get it. Even even if it wasn't hot out you left a nine-month-old in a car with the doors hundreds of people to walk past. Right. The officer was right. Not only had she left her child unattended, but she left the windows open and the doors unlocked. It was obvious child neglect and she was going to pay a price for it. That is totally unacceptable on a mother level. Right. Okay, well let's just hopefully pray that >> only did you just leave one, you left two. These kids cannot fend for themselves. So I don't see why you're thinking this is no big deal. It's a complete big deal with your actions. I'm just frustrated BECAUSE RIGHT NOW THIS IS THEY THEY'RE ALL I GOT. Y'ALL SITTING HERE TALKING ABOUT it's not acceptable. Okay, I get that. It wasn't on purpose to sit HERE AND ACT LIKE I WAS JUST completely neglecting MY KIDS. I LEFT THEM IN HERE with good intention. I was trying TO MAKE SURE HE DIDN'T get sick. Okay, we just got out of the pool. You see I'm still I'm still soaked. SO YES, I DID TRY TO LEAVE MY KID AND MAKE SURE THAT I TOOK CARE of him. IF THAT'S NEGLECTFUL CUZ I LEFT HIM IN THERE IN A CAR and it got hot and people see me. Okay, cool. I get it. But y'all sitting here basically trying to You feel me? Like it it's making ME FEEL LIKE Y'ALL TRYING to take my kids. I DON'T HAVE [ __ ] BUT THEM. SO YES, IF I'M WRONG FOR WANTING TO GET FOOD, OKAY. I'M ADULT enough to sit there and take that account. And without even knowing the exact time frame that they're going to see on the cameras just the statement from you that you're walking around the mall trying to find it. And then the fact that you don't even know where the The is. That you admitted you couldn't even find your car. You said you were walking around in the parking lot, so that is You left these [laughter] kids in a parking lot for X amount of time while you're twiddling around the mall. And then you can't even come back and find them? Do you see where the issue is with that? The suspect continued to justify her actions by pointing out that she left the windows down for ventilation, but at the same time, that only made things worse as predators could have easily abducted them. Okay, so you're saying I'm just going to clarify some questions with you, right? You said it was about 10 minutes, right? Uh ma'am, I'm not going to sit here and lie to you cuz I really honestly >> needed I I can't say I was listening to me. Okay, I have to do a police report regardless, okay? I understand that. I'm not trying to stop y'all from nothing. I promise So I need I need to ask you some questions and you just have to give me approximate what you think, okay? Because I need it for the police report. Approximately like 10 minutes. I come out there and go right in there. You take a left and you go like three, four stores down. And he can even vouch for me. It's But I just want to clarify that. But you said you were walking circles around it and you couldn't find it. >> Yeah, like I kept walking and passing like the interest right there just cuz I THOUGHT IT WAS ABOUT A RIGHT THERE. THAT'S WHY I'M JUST NOT believing 10 minutes. 10 minutes I would believe you if you went straight there and back, but if you said you were lost in there and walking circles and passing One second, let me finish. You're walking circles in there, walking back and forth, passing it, and then you come out here and you couldn't find your vehicle either, and then you're walking around and then you see the security, and then it just happens the security is out where your vehicle and your children The officers reiterated that it didn't matter if she was gone 10 minutes or 30 minutes. Leaving young children unaccompanied in a vehicle, whether the windows were left up or down, is classified as child neglect. The officers had a job to do and they were going to see it through. Do you understand that it's hot for your kids to be out there? Do you understand that? It was like this when I left. That's what I'm trying to tell y'all. Literally like >> can understand that it's neglect, no matter how long you left your kids for. You understand that y'all called the cops. Okay. I don't know. I don't I don't even I don't even never neglect. I won't even to the word neglect at this point, cuz this is just like this traumatizing. I even have to deal with this. Like, I get it. Thank god my kids is okay. Thank god I wasn't going to be one of the moms that left the windows open, etc., etc., but it will never happen again. >> would have happened if your kids would have gotten snatched or something? Right. Right, because the windows are tinted. >> happened, it would all be my fault. Exactly. And that's too many things >> leave your kids unattended, no matter how long it is. I won't leave them unattended again. >> the baby was sleeping and you just wanted to run in there quick, but you can't be doing that. >> I won't do it ever. Ever, ever, ever, ever. Cuz this is too much. If there was a silver lining, it was that hopefully this ordeal would make her think twice before leaving her children unattended again. The only thing left for the officers to do was formally charge her. You're technically getting arrested, but we're releasing you On >> On scene. It's a class A misdemeanor for endangering the life and health of a child and leaving children under the age of 14 unattended. We We We could if we wanted to push the issue as far as we could, we could take you in and then bring the children in, too, and then have to turn them over to DCFS. We don't see that fit for this situation. We see it as one bad mistake and this is a learning lesson to move forward. So, we're going to give you a piece of paper. It's the same as if you were arrested. And then you have a court date and you can go to court and testify as to why you believe There's no one in there. That's fine. Okay. Yeah, I'd rather just take that than go to jail. Okay, whatever. That's just horrible. >> So, we're going to fill out some paperwork out. There's no bodily harm. It's endangering the life and health of a child. And one of that aspect One of those aspects is leaving children under 14 unattended. So, since we're not going to take you in, we're going to release you on scene, okay? So, you got to go to court um next month on the 5th at 9:00 a.m. Okay? Also, because I'm not taking you in, you got to go in for your uh your fingerprints before the 23rd of next month. Or this month. I'm sorry. Okay. And it's only from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. that hour. Okay? Can I take her picture? Right now? It's for because I'm not taking you in the booking. We got to take a picture of you, okay? Oh, yes. Yeah, let me just first. After reviewing the surveillance footage, officers learned that she had left her children unattended for nearly 30 minutes. She was charged with child endangerment. >> [music] >> On February 23rd, 2024, in Charlotte County, police officers were dispatched to Charlie's Pub following reports that a woman had been spotted driving under the influence with two small children in the back. Hello. I'm Officer 330, Charlotte County Sheriff's Office traffic safety team. Reason I'm stopping the Infiniti is we had a call about your vehicle. They were concerned about your ability to operate a vehicle. Um Uh uh is everything okay? Have you had any alcohol or anything to drink today? Are you on any medications prescribed by a doctor? Well, being pregnant Okay. What I have How much have you had today? For sure. I have my anxiety medication. We're right in the middle of the pharmacy. Yes. I mean, I take my medication every night. Okay. Um last night. Okay. All right. Um what were you doing up at Charlie's Pub? Stop picking up my I had to use the restroom. Okay. All right. Well, they're the ones that called. They were concerned about you being able to drive safely. There was a good chance that she was under the influence of something, and it wasn't anxiety medication. Driving drunk on your own is bad enough, but doing it with two children in the backseat is on a whole other level. How old is the little baby? Um she's two, and he's seven. Oh, okay. I took her. You took her in the pub? >> Yeah. I just had to pee. You didn't take him? No. You left him in the car? I left him in the car. I just had to pee. Okay. All right. I'm going to get my form. Can you get her out real quick? At this time, ma'am, I am concerned about your ability to operate a vehicle safely. I'm seeing a couple of clues and indicators that believe me to be that you may not be able to operate it safely. That I'm going to ask you to submit to field sobriety to make sure you're able to operate your vehicle safely today, okay? Will you do the exercises I'm going to ask of you? I will. The question on everyone's mind at that point was, did she really go to the pub to use the washroom or did she attempt to get served? In the meantime, she participated in the field sobriety tests. All right, miss. This time we're going to go upwards. Same thing. Just your eyes, head straight, okay? >> Now begin. Yes, sir. Miss Patton, do you remember the instructions? She completely forgot about the part of the test where she was supposed to count out nine steps, then turn around and walk back. And even when the officer explained it to her again, she still did the same thing she did before. Come back here. How many steps is that? Okay, go. All right. I can do it again. No, we're fine. Okay, so that was an obvious failure, but she wasn't done yet. She still had two more exercises to go, and next up was the dreaded one-leg stand. Hopefully, she would actually listen to and follow the officer's instructions. Again. And you can stop. Left. Right. Remember the instructions. Remember the instructions. Yes. You got to put your hand down. Oh, sorry. Sorry, sorry. Left. Right. Right? Left. All right. The officer had seen enough. It was obvious that she was under the influence of alcohol.
