Just take one Don't point it at me and In his defense, his shotgun was out there. Yeah. >> But when I left, I had put it in the back of the car. >> you. Yes, sir. All right. What else did y'all shoot, man? Just the the bucket? >> Bucket, cans. [snorts] Okay. Were y'all shooting last night? I'm surprised nobody complained, honestly. It There was a couple shots last night cuz there were a few coyotes Yes, sir. with his dog that was coming around cuz we had food we were cooking. Yeah. Got you. Okay. So, here Do you have your ID with you, Jacob? >> not, sir. My ID is at my house. It's your house? >> Uh our house. We we we rent. Okay. And then is that your Cadillac? Yes, sir. Is that Is it registered to you? Yes, sir. Okay. Well, let me get your name. And here's what You guys just There's a few things going on here. All right. Um one, for starters, you can't camp out here. Really? Really. I know I seem I seem like a dumb thing that we don't know that. Yeah. >> But we really did not know that. Okay. So, you can't camp. Can't have alcohol. Okay. Um you can't shoot little blue birds. Yes, sir. Okay. >> We shoot blue birds? Did You didn't hear You didn't hear him shoot? Uh I was asleep, sir. You had You had had some good drinks last night, huh? Uh I just didn't get much sleep. I got you. So, everything that's down here you guys have got to It's time to get up, clean up. >> Get it out. Buckets, any Where Where all your spent shells, casings Where that Where were you at when you were shooting? All that stuff. Over there. Okay. So, all that stuff like Needs to be picked up. >> Needs to get cleaned up. 10-4. Picked up. I'm going to go back. I'm going to go back to my truck. I'm going to see if I can help that little bird. Um and we'll I'll come back through to make sure everything's done. When y'all are say you're done, you're done. Just leave the weapons unloaded for now. Yes, sir. Okay. What is your name? Jacob. All right. We We got to do what we need to do? Yes, sir. Okay. Thank you. Yep. That's 10-41-32. Go ahead. Mute. Both of you are going to get some citations. Okay. Okay? So, it'll be for you Luckily, you were just asleep or whatever, so you're going to get a ticket, which is a non-criminal infraction for camping out here. Okay? You can't You can't camp. In fact, you're not even supposed to be in here after dark. All right? And that's posted on the signs. >> me asking cuz I'm I Sure. At least as far as I was aware, I saw a 40-15, show. There's a hiking, horse trail, etc. Yep. 43 busy. >> Yeah. the entrance sign. Yeah. I thought I saw a camping one as well, and the only place I've seen it 12-6-10 is going to be said about no camping Aranda. stopped reading the signs Yeah. driving in. The only All right. Her date of birth is going to be 27. about no camping was over by the landing. 67 instead of 68. Um and so I thought it was that was specifically to that area. >> Okay, that's fine. You can think whatever. I'm I'm I I want to I'm trying That's what I'm trying to do is clarify. You cannot be in here after after dark. Yes, sir. Okay. The only exception to that is Sandy Landing, and this is for the whole Perdido WMA. So, you've got a section down there in Softly Pines, you got this section, you got Muscogee, you got uh the pipes, Fillingim Landing. You familiar with those? I've heard of the pipes. Okay. So, all So, in all of those, there's one campsite called Auto Hill, and you have to go online and make a reservation. That's the only place in Perdido WMA that you can camp. >> Yes, sir. All right, then all of the WMA, you're not supposed to be in there like after after dark. All right, so even like sometimes I sit in here late at night and if people drive through, like if I would have been in here last night, I would have caught you before you ever you you ever went in. You know what I'm saying? Okay, so did that clarify? Okay, so so for the camping, okay, that it's a non-criminal infraction. It's going to be a $55 fine for camping in here. I'm going to write you guys warnings for for the alcohol. How much did you have last night? Like are you capable of driving this vehicle? I mean your eyes are super glassy like right now, so Okay. >> [snorts] >> Okay. Okay. No hunting license, right? Okay. So you got no hunting you were camping. Um Hey buddy, you're a pretty boxer. Hey, it's okay. Hey River. Hey River. River, don't jump at me. Don't jump at me. Yeah, sure. Okay, so so we got to deal with with you shooting the bird, okay? So yours is the camping thing. Yours is going to be a warning for the alcohol thing. Okay, but then the the the shooting the bluebird is a problem, okay? Because it it's it's protected under the migratory bird treaty act, okay? So that's that would be like that's one that's one issue. Um and then you don't have a hunting license. That's another issue. Okay, and then just for y'all so you know like there's some tricky rules in these management areas when it comes to shooting guns, okay? And like this is a quota area like for deer for many many species you have to have a quota. So without having that quota, you can't even be in here hunting. All right, so it's just it's just tricky. So you got to like do y'all ever go to the Fish and Wildlife app or like go online and read? So like if you go look up the Perdido WMA, you can pull up like a whole bunch of rules and you can read you can read through them, okay? So what I'm going to try to do with you, all right, I'm going to try to keep you out of the courtroom if I can. All right. What How old are you? I didn't really Okay, what do you do what are you doing right now? In school, working? Okay. When? Like in a month? Or a couple months? Okay, so even even even more so, okay? You can't just go shoot birds. You had no idea I was sitting there, huh? Yeah. It was like it doesn't always happen that way, but like well look at this guy just shot right here. You can't just go shoot whatever you want to shoot because a lot of a lot of animals are protected or there's or there's seasons or there's certain requirements that that you that you have to have. You're not going to jail. Yeah. You're not going to jail. I'm trying to keep you out of the courtroom. Period. All right. Uh were you excited about going in the army? Okay, you don't want anything to mess that up, do you? Okay, do you have like a recruiting officer that you talk to often or Yeah. Okay. All right, so let me I I just have been trying to ID the bird. The bird still alive. I'm going to try to take it to the sanctuary and see if they can No, it doesn't really matter, man. You you you yeah, that's right. You still shot the bird. River, you okay? Traumatic night for you, too, huh? All right, so give me a few more minutes, guys. Thank you for your patience. Jacob, yours is easy. Okay, so as I explained to you, you got a non-criminal infraction, so that means there's like no points on your license or anything like that. You need to pay $55 by January 22nd or call them and request a court date. Okay, simple enough. All right, this Okay. So >> [laughter] >> that well look look, it's not as bad it's not as bad as it it's not as bad as it could be, okay? Both of you I'm going to write warnings. I didn't print them out, but I'm going to write warnings for the alcohol. All right. This will be my copy, so I'm going to need you to sign here whenever I after I explain it to you, okay? I had to write a little bit more and you have more charges. Okay, so that's why yours got pushed out to it's it's really not there's a lot of blank space. I mean I can go back and try to fill that Okay, [laughter] okay. So so Yeah, so this one here, okay, it is technically this is shooting that bluebird. It it's protected under the migratory bird treaty act. All right, so you can't just go shoot anything. And when you do, you do it 50 yards in front of the game warden. There's there could be consequences, right? So it is a misdemeanor, all right, which is criminal, which means you could go to jail, which I'm not. You could have a court date, which I didn't give you a court date. I just let it self-populate a fine. Okay. So if you choose to just pay your fines, then you won't have a misdemeanor on your record. Okay, if you choose to take it to court, you could win and not have anything or you could not win and then have a misdemeanor and then have to pay like they could charge you up to $500 for for that violation, okay? But the fine that populated in here was 200 bucks. Okay. Well then and and then I wrote you an infraction like Jacob for camping, $55. And I wrote you an infraction for not having a hunting license, which is $70.50. So a total of three charges. One is the misdemeanor, but you understand if you pay it then it it goes away. Okay, and then two two infractions. That is correct. That's why yours is a lot bigger than his. Okay. The fine amount. That's why I clarified the fine amount, so All right, so if you will it's pretty funny. You can laugh at that. I got a sense of humor, man. I mean that's the big I'm just doing my job. So if you'll sign here, it's not an admission of guilt. It's just that you understand your your responsibilities for the citation. Again, you can call the court if you want to contest it. You can go there in person and pay it. You can go online and pay it. You can call them and pay it, okay? If you'll sign there for me, please. Yeah, it's like don't even think about it till the end of next week cuz I probably won't they're closed. It won't go in till like Tuesday if I'm lucky. And then um Okay, what are you doing in your with your life? Any questions? Okay. Okay. Okay. Merry Christmas. Thank you, thank you for your your service. Enjoy your career. Let's think again before we squeeze that trigger. Goodbye, River. Glad we could be friends. In the end, the suspect received two level one violations and was cited for failing to produce a hunting license and a camping violation. He later paid $325.50 in costs and fines.
