[Applause] In the end, he was charged with four misdemeanor charges. On September 11th, 2024, he plead guilty on all charges and was sentenced to two years of probation and ordered to pay over $800 in fines and fees. On December 20th, 2023, a Florida fish and wildlife officer was on patrol when he observed a truck and trailer that belonged to a known commercial fisherman at an infrequently used boat ramp. From a concealed location, Officer Georgovich observed a vehicle that appeared to be on lookout through the boat ramp. Once the netting vessel arrived, the officer conducted a resource inspection and located a large monofilament gil net on board the vessel. Uh, hang tight for me. All right, go ahead and pull it out. I got to read you this and talk about it. Don't think too much into it. All right. Um, you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law. So, like in the general area, you run straight under this uh bridge right here and then you go to the right over there. There's that runway over there. Yeah. That's where you were at over that way. Yeah. Okay. Awesome. Thank you. The gil net was not properly stored, had no SPL markings on it, and was full of ladyfish and other species. Based on the interviews and species in the net, the officers determined that the subject had deployed the net in state waters. Officers removed nearly 1,000 pounds of ladyfish as well as multiple other saltwater species in the net. The net was over 500 yards in length and was seized. All subjects were arrested and transported to the Penllis County Jail. The subjects were charged with a total of six felonies and 51 misdemeanors. On May 28th, 2024, the captain plead guilty and was sentenced to one day in jail with credit for time served and 24 months of state probation. The other cases are currently ongoing.
