An officer with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources was on patrol when he observed an angler leaving the Sandusky River with his daily bag limit of six walleye. Approximately 1 hour later, the same angler returned to the river wearing different clothing and began fishing on the opposite side of the river. He proceeded to catch three more walleye, placing each one on his stringer. How are you? How do you do? How many did you get? Three? Been here all day, haven't you? You've been here all day? What time did you get here? >> And uh I got here at 1:00. >> Okay. You were on the other side fishing earlier. Did you do any good at all or no? I saw you on that side. Did you no good? >> No good. >> Okay. How long were you over there? >> I I think I was probably right there. >> You were right over there, right? >> Yeah. I was in that corner. >> Yeah. All right. Well, I've been watching here all day. I know you left with five or six over there, so you're going to be over the limit. Okay? Did you not know you couldn't do that or what? >> And uh >> It's only six fish per day. >> Six fish per day? >> Yeah, and you're over that today. Did you have five or six over there? >> I got five. >> Okay. And you got eight, so you're three you're two over. So, let's walk back to your vehicle and uh you got fish in the cooler in your vehicle. Take a look at them. Did you not know you couldn't do that or what? >> Oh, I did not know that. >> How many fish are in the cooler? Just five? Or do you have more than that? >> I think five. Five? I got some in the other one. Someone gave me is that a common thing? >> What's Yeah. So, you Yeah, that counts. So, you're going to be three over. I think you left with six over there cuz I counted them. I was watching everybody over there. And you're the only one who had any fish and Yeah, I think you left with six. >> Yeah, and and I No. >> I didn't see anybody give you one. Cuz cuz you're you're by yourself for a long time. >> Yeah, I I I I think I had three back there. I didn't Yeah, somebody gave you Oh, but if somebody gave me a fish is that a common thing? >> Yeah, because it's catch or possess, so. >> Oh. >> So, you'll be over three fish if you got six in there. I tried to count them when you were walking up the hill, and I But, do you get Do you get over here Let's walk down here. Do you get Do you get down here a lot to fish? >> Uh this is the first time I've been >> Is it? Yeah, we kind of watch the area, so we kind of keep an eye on everything. What did you do? Go eat lunch, come back? >> Yeah. >> You threw back quite a few that were snagged. I appreciate that. >> Yeah. >> I watched I was watching >> He's got nothing to lose, man. I think I'm going to go back. >> Yeah. Yeah, if somebody gave you six, and that's your six for the day. >> Oh. >> Cuz you get It's catch or possess. >> Oh. >> So, like I said, you're over anyway. You would have had six more if you caught them, so. We get back to your vehicle here, I'll get your license, and take care of you, and get you out of here. I think you'll be able to pay it in the mail. I don't think you have to go to court. >> How much is it? >> Uh it's going to be a couple hundred bucks, probably. I'll have to look it up, see what it is. Cuz you're going to be three You're going to be three fish over. Yeah, just set those here. Let me take a look at those in the cooler real quick. >> Right here. >> Yeah, cuz you had your black sweatshirt on on the other side. >> Huh? >> The sweatshirt had the black sweatshirt on earlier. >> Yeah, I got a loose one. >> Yeah, yeah. Yeah. You had that one on earlier, yeah. >> Yeah, yeah. It's cold on here. >> Yeah. >> No, no. Yeah. I sent that sandwich. It should be getting better fishing wise. >> Yeah, probably. But I'm not probably not not not >> Thank you, sir. >> not not this week, I guess. >> Okay, when you have time, I'll get a driver's license and you can Let me check these over here. Thank you, sir. Is your address correct on here? >> Yes. >> Okay. All right. You got any other stringers in here? >> No. >> You don't have any other stringer in your car? >> No, I got one. >> Okay. Okay, you don't have any other ones in there? No other stringers? >> No. Why are you Why are you saying that? >> Oh, I just didn't know if you had any more. Okay, I'll be right back with you. >> What up, John? >> Hey, I'm busy. I'll call you back here in a minute. I just got a question. All right, over bag, is it 150 or is it 70 per fish over or is it 50? >> Uh 70 for each additional fish. >> That's That's not I see it for snag, but it even over bag 70? >> Oh, I don't know about that, but if you want to write it for multiple fish, you got to write it multiple tickets. >> I know it. Well, he he switched clothes and came He had a limit this morning, he came back another side of river and I got him with three. >> Are you kidding? Good work. >> Hey guys, so what do you what do you think it is? You think it's 70? >> It says for each additional fish it's 70. >> Okay. I pray He probably needs three, man. He switched clothes and everything. So, I'm going to give him three. >> Dude, you can make him up Well, I don't know if you can on that. >> I'll make you I'll just give him three tickets. >> Yeah, write him three for sure. >> Uh so, you think 70? >> I do. >> Okay. All right, 150 then 70 and 70. >> Mhm. >> All right, thanks. Yeah. See you. Yeah, see you. Here you go, sir. I can't since you were three over, this court doesn't allow you just to write them on one ticket. So, I had to write a ticket per fish, okay? So, what it is it's 150 for the first one cuz that's court cost included and the other two are 70 a piece, okay? So, here's where we are. Let me explain this to you. Uh this is you are ordered to appear I scratched that out. You don't have to be there unless you want to, okay? Uh you have until April 16th to pay. Uh we're in Fremont, right? So, you want to go online and look up the Fremont Municipal Court website and you'll find your name on there where you can pay them online, okay? Like I said, one one's 70, one's 70, and one's 150 cuz they had to include their court cost on the first one, okay? Cuz they're not going to give you court costs on all of them. There's a phone number here if you have any questions. Uh that's the court number and call them because if it's not paid by this date or you don't show up, then they're going to issue a warrant, okay? You got any questions? >> No, I think so. >> Okay. Okay, be careful. Just do the right thing next time, okay? >> I will learn the lesson. >> Okay. >> That's the best lesson we can learn. >> Good, sir. Any >> Almost 300 bucks already. >> Uh you any questions? >> No. >> Okay, you be safe driving home, okay? >> In the end, the suspect was charged with three counts of taking or possessing over the daily bag limit of walleye. He received a total of $290 in fines. Unfortunately, we're unable to locate the records to confirm if the fines were paid.
