Welcome back everyone. Today's video comes to us from Missouri where generally speaking crappie are open year round, have no minimum size limit, and have a daily bag limit of 30 fish per person. However, the Smithville Lake is a little bit different and adds one caveat. Only 15 of the 30 fish can be over 9 in in length. This is exactly why I always stress the importance of checking the body of water you intend to fish on before going out for the day. Anyways, conservation agents with the Missouri Department of Fish and Wildlife were on patrol along the Smithville Lake when they made contact with two individuals to conduct a resource inspection. >> How's it going? >> Hi Harry you. >> Not too bad. >> Good. >> You guys have any luck? >> Yeah, kind of cute. >> All good. >> Yeah. >> Good deal. >> It's nice. >> Yeah. >> Nice to come out on a cloudy day and catch some. >> Sure. We didn't get up there till like 10:00. 10:30. >> Okay. Wow. Yeah, good deal. >> They all keep all over nine or >> Yeah, all over nine. >> Oh, yeah. I don't keep any under. >> Right. >> I just don't know. >> keep the babies. >> Sure. Sure. Sure. >> I tell you what. Go grab my bucket and I'm just going to >> I got two buckets in my truck. I'm going to use them. >> If if you want to, what we can do, Um, we can just go through one at a time and I'll just count your fish. >> Sure. >> to 15 and then we'll do the other one. >> That would work. >> That would be That would be fine. >> While he's getting that, do you have a permit on you? >> No, I don't. I'm 66. >> Okay, perfect. If you have it, I'll take a look at it. >> How you doing? >> Good. Good. >> Do you want a dip net? >> Uh >> Might make it a little easier for you. >> Yeah. Yeah, gladly. That way I don't get finned all day. >> I'll grab one. >> Thank you, man. >> 58. Perfect. >> No water. Uh I guess I could bring water out in the back, you know. I've never done this. >> Yeah, if you want to. >> In the buckets? >> Just Is that what you're wanting to do? >> Uh >> If you're draining the water out, we can't put it back in the hole at home. >> Yeah, but we could put ice on them. It don't matter. It don't matter how you want to just take them out of here. That's fine. >> It's however you want to do it. >> No, that's fine. >> I just have to count them at this point. >> do it that way. No, ain't a problem. >> How long you got much of a drive to get home? >> Do what? >> of a drive to get home? >> Oak Grove. >> Oh, yeah. That's not bad. >> So, it's not too bad. It's like 45 to 50 minutes depending on traffic. >> Sure, yeah. >> So, it's pretty close for us. >> Yeah, good. You What's the lake right there off of outside Blue Springs? >> Blue Springs Lake? >> Is that what it is? >> Well, there's Jacomo, but you can't run on that. >> Okay. >> And then there's Blue Springs Lake and you can run a motor on it. >> Sure, then that's probably what I'm thinking of there. The one you see from I-70. >> Uh do what now? >> I think You can see one from I-70 off that side of the road. >> Remembrance, but it's not big enough to put a boat on. >> It's not. >> Do you need a counter or are you counting? >> Yeah. >> Here you go. >> Huh? >> 1 2 3 4 5 >> You're good. >> That's six. >> That's six. >> That's good. >> Yeah, let me count these. 7 8 9 10 11 >> 12 >> Yeah, 15 there, so you can dump those back in and then we'll do a count on the other one. >> All righty. >> I got you. >> Thank you. I try to do right all the time, pal. Maybe knocking down some of the smaller ones, you know. I mean, that's some nice fish. Oh, hey. We're proud. >> [laughter] >> That's what retirement's about, ain't it? >> That's right. >> They're not They're not giants. I mean, we threw We threw several back, but not a lot of them. But we're real fortunate to have a lot of nice crappie this year in the lake. You guys shot them this year. >> you got big ones this year cuz we've always come up here and it's just smaller ones. >> Yep. Well, we were talking to local guy about that today and he was saying >> There's five. >> He was thinking that this that new regulation might be helping. >> Helping? I hope. I hated when they had that tournament up here and they live scooped everything. Cuz it was like a year or 2 years after we didn't see anything hardly. >> Do you mind if I step up here and just >> No, go ahead. Hey, man, help yourself. >> Make it a little easier to count. >> Sorry. >> No, you're good. >> 9 10 11 >> That one's splashing. >> How many do you have in there? I got 1 2 3 4 6 Maybe we get a couple more out of here because they're they're swimming around on me so we'll see. >> you bet you. >> They're hard to count. >> They are. 7 >> I got a counter in my tackle box. >> When you're done always remember to hit the counter. >> Oh yeah. >> [laughter] >> I know I am. >> I forgot to >> That'll make it easy for you. >> make it easy. >> 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 Count 16 with If you got 9 in there 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 So there there'd be 16 here. We had 15 there. >> How did I miscount? >> So >> That was my side. >> We're what we're going to have to do Let's let's pull these. So get all these in that bucket and then we'll get those ones in the other bucket. >> Okay. >> And just just to make sure that there's no >> Yeah, there's no >> And if we end up with 30 we'll we'll be good but >> Okay, good. >> Um >> And if not, maybe there's one in them where it's under mine. >> Yeah, we'll we'll do some checking. Hopefully >> Can we get the checker? >> Yeah, I got a checker. >> Yeah. >> I've got one. >> That would be >> We're going to have to measure. We are going to have to recap. >> Yeah, that's good. >> How are we going to get water in here? >> Yeah, we'll go ahead and recap and do that. >> I'm going to start checking these if you want. >> Yeah, go ahead and start checking. >> 4 5 >> 4 5 >> 3 >> I'm going to have to go get my bucket. >> 15, I got yours. >> You got mine here? >> So, I got 16. >> This is 16. >> check in? >> No. This one's right at nine. Oh, no, I pinched a lobe, so it's over nine. That's 16 in this bucket over nine inches. >> I got 17 here and then we >> That was 16 >> That was number >> That was number >> That was number 16, yes, ma'am. >> Yes. >> There's a >> Okay. >> Is it clear? >> Yeah. >> Can we put these back in the water? >> Oh, not yet. >> Not that one, but >> I'm going to take one out. We can put the 15 back in. >> They'll be dead by the time we get there if they're not back in the water. Sorry. >> I'll take that net and throw this all away. >> Hey, I'm going. >> [laughter] >> I'm going. >> So, I try not to keep any of them under nine. I even had a counter. >> I know. >> 13 This is what happens when you get old. >> That's a number 16. >> 15 >> Three over 11. >> 17 >> So, >> So, one of these get That first side was whose? >> The first side was mine over here. >> and mine was nine. >> is over there. >> mine. >> So, >> Okay, so I counted yours. So, you had one over your limit and you had two. Okay. >> All right, so yeah, we got we got three overs, two people here, so >> Yep. >> Um Do Do Do you two have IDs on you by chance? >> Yes, I do. >> Do you need my ID again? >> I Yes, ma'am. And you can These are These are legal. You can put those back in there. This >> Yeah, okay. think >> I think that's >> That's your bucket. This is your bucket. >> Yep. Yes. >> [snorts] >> You will assist a minute, all right? >> Okay. So, here's your ID back. So, I'll explain this to you real quick. Um here's where we're at today, date and time, um information I I I just asked you your social and then what I got off your ID, okay? Um take over to the minute copy. You know, you had 16 when you should have only had 15 that were over 9 in each right? Okay. So, what I have to do is I have to give you a court date. Um if you pay this beforehand, you don't got to go to court. >> You don't got >> Um it's just like a traffic ticket. It's pretty simple. >> All right. >> But um your court date, if you don't take care of it before court, is 9:00 on June 18th there in Liberty. >> Okay. >> Okay. Um you can call the circuit clerk in Liberty. >> Okay. >> Or this blue piece of paper will have instructions on how you can take care of it online or you can mail it in. >> Okay. >> Okay. So, I'll give you that here in a second, but if you want to sign that, that's not an admission of guilt. It's just saying that all that information on your ID was correct and >> So, how much is it? >> Um so, the courts decide that. Um Uh we have recommended stuff. We have a recommended fine um that we give them, but they can, you know, they can adjust it. Um all of our all of our stuff is like a class A misdemeanor. >> You can be in the news. Come on. >> [laughter] >> Um it, you know, it's uh around we recommend around 100 bucks, but um >> My God. >> Um and then they have court costs and stuff like that. So, but but like I said, I'm You can't You can't hold me to that because >> No, I know. If you paid online, though, what is it? >> Um that I've never messed with, so I I couldn't tell you. Um I just know our recommended fine. >> Okay. >> So, that's what we recommend and then they have their court costs and that kind of thing. So, >> court costs if you paid online? >> Um you'd have to see. Once you Once you do it or you can talk to them on the phone. You can call the county clerk and they'll they'll explain it to you, too. So. Do you have any other questions for me? All righty. Well. Yeah, you as well. >> Okay, the case summary on this video is a little bit different than what I was anticipating. Now, now we did only receive the body camera footage from the one officer, so we did miss some conversations, but there's some conflicting information in the reports here. In this particular case, the female was charged with taking or possessing over the legal limit of crappie. She was found guilty of the charge, she was ordered to pay $205 in costs and fines, which she later paid. Now, this is where things get a little bit interesting. The officer's report indicates that both individuals received that same charge. However, the records show that the male in this case was charged with fishing without a permit. For the fishing without a permit charge, he was ordered to pay $49.50 plus court cost. Within the court records, there is a citation that shows he was in fact cited for fishing without a permit, so it's likely that the officer who wrote the report simply made a mistake. Maybe the officers decided to use some discretion because they did have a fish counter on board, and maybe felt that one charge each was enough. Anyways, that's it for today's video, but we want to hear what you think. [music] Do you think this was a simple counting mistake by both individuals? Do you think the officers were right in only issuing him a citation for fishing without a permit? Let us know down in the comments below, and if you like content like this, be sure to subscribe so you don't miss out on future videos. As always, thanks for watching. >> [music]
