An officer with Texas Parks and Wildlife is patrolling Lake Fork when he contacted a family fishing along the shoreline. Are you game wardens here for you? Uh I told you you should have got your fishing license. How are you today? >> I'm doing good. We all got the set up over here. Yeah, it's the one that tried to get us last night. >> Oh man. How are you young lady? It's good. Crappie biting? We caught uh three crappie. We caught a couple of nice bass, a catfish, and a couple of sand bass. What's on this What's on this stringer? That's the bass and the catfish. See. Not enough room in that basket. No. Just small. How big are your bass? Uh I didn't measure them out. Yeah. Is there limit on on fork? Yeah, there's a slot, 16 to 24. 16 to Can't keep anything between 16 in and 24 in. Oh, really? Uh-huh. Oh. Learned something new. Yeah. >> Learned something new on that one. I bet those are both going to be slot fish. Let me see your license real quick. How big are the crappie? The crappie are 10 in. No, 10 in. Well, one's right at 10 and the other over. Yeah. What are y'all using to measure? >> Hang on just a second. Okay, that's fine. Uh I got a I got I got to take measure. I saw it in there. I've got a little one here and I've got a big uh Take a measure. This is what Jet wanted to do. Be this. I know. He wants to go alligator hunting. Oh. >> [laughter] >> He going He going to go live in Louisiana. >> Yeah, cuz he wants to catch some alligators and eat them. You believe alligators will bite you? I tried to renew this. I got the yearly one. I tried to renew mine uh about a month ago. They told me I can't do it. Yeah, if you buy that year from purchase until it expires. That's That's That puts you right in the middle of crappie season. Yeah, it does. And you got yours on your phone, right? Yes, on my phone. He keeps my license in the truck, but I did mine online. >> Yeah, that's fine. Y'all come down here and visit very much? Yeah. Yeah? Yeah. This is our last night. It's what? Last night here. Oh, okay. Okay, so much that's Well, I have to go back to school before you do. 16 to 24. >> Yeah, I'm going to go get my measuring board and measure those. Okay. 16 I did not know that. Here, while you're pulling that, let me go grab that measuring board. We're right back. Uh I measured it. One was 16 and 17 and a quarter and the other one was 19 and a half. >> they look like it. Oh, yeah. I'll still get the key to get in a little bit. It's like, "Okay, now, how do I find online? I'm looking like Yeah. He goes, I'll just walk to the truck. I said, yeah, by the time you get to the truck, I'll find it. Watch that rod. I don't want to lose >> he's already Oh, okay. >> cut the line. He got all tangled up, so he just bit it off. That's not what you need your teeth for, but It may be easy We probably got to take him off that stringer. Try not to let your catfish go, though. Keep up. Earlier, they swirled and come to the top of the water. Scared her to death. >> [laughter] >> Pretty quiet out here at night? Uh, yeah. Uh. Little froggies chirping, and then that little hog that came behind. We don't even know who Scared us. Catfish is the first one up. Yeah. Me and something else. Well, yeah. This one is You got to grab the end. We're going to get it eventually. There we go. >> There we go. I don't want to bite my fingers. The catfish tried to bite my fingers. Say it, but daddy's last night. You believe that? All right, y'all have somewhere we can put that and I want to turn this one loose on you. Yeah, I'll put him in there. Oh, that was a good crappie. Watch out, I don't want them things to get you. There we go. >> All right, let's see which one we got. He said one was 17. >> Yeah, that's what he said. I said, well, you always learn something new. He said I caught one with 19. Yeah, he said one One and one was 17. something. Okay, I got that one. I think I'll throw this one back in so it will set the water. You want a string? You don't mind? All right, let's see. That one must be the bigger one. Yep, 19 and 3/4. Let's see if he'll swim off. Yep, he didn't float. I think that one got hit by a motor or something cuz Well, they're also spawning, getting ready to. And so I figured didn't Don't they spawn before the crappie? I don't know. Like talking to the bass fishermen and stuff, they're not even up on the beds yet. Like they started to be on the bed, look at that. >> [snorts] >> They started getting on the beds and then we had that rain and that other little cold snap and it just shut them down. There we go. We put the catfish in the basket. Okay. Cuz it was on top to get to those. If we can get it thrown up, I can find it. I'll look in just a second. All right, yeah, that one's 18 and a quarter. So the other one was 19 and 3/4 and that one's 18 and and a quarter. Let's see. They got to be over So they got to be under 16. They can touch 16, but they got to go under, at least under 16. Um and then it can be 24 over. Anything in between. information. I know I got it in September. >> [snorts] >> Yeah, anything in between that is a slot fish. I'm going to try to touch it and not touch it with fish. Just want to see what you bought. I see your license. Yeah. Um Your address still correct here? >> Yes, sir. >> [snorts] >> All right, so you had two fish over slot fish. Yes, sir. Um What's going to happen here you receive a citation to possess slot bass. Just for one of the fish though, not for both of them. Okay? Hey, that's better than two. That is better than two. We watch those uh game warden shows and stuff. All right, miss what it is one citation to possess slot bass. The judge is Judge Franklin. He's out of Emory and I've got his phone number here. You can handle all this by phone. You don't have to come back over here. I gave him till the 31st of March to contact him. Okay. Not a plea guilty promise you take care of it before the 31st. I I >> Have you signed anything about that red X for me? I should have checked it. I I just don't normally keep bass in there. I thought, well, you know, I'll put it in for the kids. Well, that and we get a lot of people that come in from out of state. Don't Yeah, they Sometimes they don't look at it, but we also get those bass fishermen that enter in those tournaments and they don't. Really? >> Yeah. Uh people should know. No, yeah, those guys, [laughter] yeah. I know I hear the bus driver, well, the railroad arms are down, but they messing there's no train. No, you cannot go through there. >> [laughter] >> Okay, good. Oh dear God, they're all veteran drivers. Sometimes they some they say I'm making Yeah. I think they need a refresher every year. >> Right. And on your license, you know, we have the outdoor annual app that you can download and you can link your license up to that. So then you just go to that app and it'll show your license on there. So that way you don't have to search for it on the email or anything like that. >> I still have the receipt. >> Right. Cuz I thought I had it. >> I know I bought it in September, so >> have it. Yeah. Or we can look it up on our phone. We have an app that we can look up the license and stuff. Yeah. So. I appreciate y'alls cooperation and y'all enjoy the rest of this day. Y'all be nice.
