An officer with the Maryland Natural Resources Police Department was on patrol when he observed two individuals that appear to be fishing along the shoreline of a closed area. >> I'm good. How are y'all doing today? Is there anywhere we can take the from here? >> So, that's what I was getting to. >> Yeah. So, I'm Officer Wall, Natural Resource Police, ID number 1771. Just so you know, you're being audibly and visually recorded on my body camera. >> Um, so they just stocked this. >> Okay. >> But it's closed. >> Oh, we didn't know that, man. But we never catch it. We just throw it like >> Just throw it back. We don't catch it. That's why we don't eat it. That's why. >> I got you. Um, it >> Do you have your fishing license with you? >> I can show you in my phone. >> Yeah, that's fine. Yeah, because this season is little bit late. I know because before last year we opened very fast. I was wondering I was just passing by. >> Yeah. >> Let me check. >> Yeah. So, it's closed from March 1st or the 4th until March 29th. >> So, like you can't be fishing in here at all. >> Oh, we didn't know that way. Even the bass are just a target. No. >> Oh. All right, let's see. I have so many. This should be trout stand 130. Let me check. I have maybe the new one. That's for 2024. >> All right. >> That's the old one. >> You said this is the old one. >> Yeah, it's 130 2024. So, I need to take out the 2025 one. >> You said you haven't got the 2025. >> I have. I have. There are lots of >> license in me. That's why. >> Let me check. >> 325. 34 3 425 >> 3 425 >> Yeah, I bought it last time. >> Yeah. Well, today is the 13th. >> Oh, yeah. The trout stamp is like if I keep a trout only, I can I have to use the trout stamp. >> Yeah. >> Or if you're in the area. >> Oh, no. Because last time I talked with Diana, because I didn't have a I have a non-title and title stamp and in order to uh keep a trout, I need a trout stamp. So, I bought a trail step in front of him. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> I didn't know that this was closed here. Then we just passed by. Our house is just nearby here. Then we stopped by. >> Yeah. So, um here I'm just walk this way real fast. I don't know if there's a sign on this tree also or not. >> No, not that one. >> Over here. Well, so there's a sign right here. Closer than one applies. Oh, okay. Last year they didn't put anything. Then we came here directly that we were fishing. That's why I was >> Yeah. >> So yeah, I was going to say I mean it >> So what time what day do you say it's going to happen? >> The 29th. >> 29th. March 29th. So, yeah, after two weeks. >> Yep. >> All right. Um, >> bad. Sorry for that one. >> I got Do you guys have your driver's licenses with you? >> Yeah. >> Oh, yeah. You're not too far. Only up in Glen Bernie. >> Yeah, >> I think I left at home. left it at home. >> I have a picture. >> I got you. Yeah, I'll just take a photo of your fishing license. >> You going to take the fishing license? >> Yeah, I'm I'm just going to take a photo of it. >> So, I'm going to go back and I'm going to figure some stuff out. I mean, >> there's a trout. >> Yeah. [Music] um how you don't have any trout. You know, I'm going to take that into account. >> Yeah, because we didn't know that. We didn't know nothing. We just catching release. That's why. >> I gotcha. But how many trout did you caught so far? >> I caught two and I was trying for the golden. It's keep on coming. But no, >> I got you. All right. Yeah, just uh I say hang tight. and I'll come back with you. >> Yeah, that's fine. I was going to say I'll just drive up. [Music] I thought you were gone. >> No, no, I'm still here. Just took a minute. All right. So, I'm going to explain everything. >> So, uh Raj. >> Yep. >> Yeah, you're Raj. All right. And then Cheyam. >> All right. So, I'm going to explain your options. >> Okay. >> So, what it is is one ticket and one warning. >> Okay. So the ticket is for fishing a closed area. >> Okay. >> So your option option A, you can go in person to the nearest courthouse. If you live in Glen Bernie, it's the one in Glen Bernie. >> Okay. >> And you can pay it in person, >> but it would have to be in person. >> Okay. >> Option two, there's a uh address right there. Okay. I'll point it to there as well. >> Um you could mail a check to that address with this. >> Okay. Option three is if you don't do either within 30 days, okay? >> Um then they would mail you something in the mail saying, "Hey, you know, this is your day in court." And then you can come in to court, go in front of a judge, and you know, explain, "Hey, I didn't know it was closed." Or pretty much just tell your side of the story. >> Yeah. >> Um I can't tell you which one to do because I'm leaving. Maybe I will go to court for this one because it's like the the tag is just a small one and we cannot see it. I didn't catch any fish. I right I have fishing lights and everything. It was just a close I could just get a warning but you me that's why >> I mean and >> I'm a little bit upset about this. I know that I did a mistake but my first time right >> but but allow me to keep going. If you come to court, given that, you know, it is your first time, I would be, you know, I'd be willing to put in a good word for you to our state's attorney. And usually, you know, you've been nothing but honest with me. I appreciate that. That's why I'm giving you the additional warning as well, not two citations, >> but that goes a long way in the eyes of the judge. So, if you guys do choose to come to court, I would. >> It's $215 because we are we don't have money to pay this one, right? Because it takes long time to pay this money. $250. It's not a joke. >> I have to work for two weeks to earn this $250. >> And that's why if you choose to come to court, then you can explain to the judge. And like I said, I would be willing to put in a good word for you. >> Yes. >> And >> yeah, maybe I will do that. >> Isn't there used to be a court date like anything? >> Yeah. You still my ID? I I got on the car. >> Oh, okay. You good? >> Yeah, I'm I'm good now. >> Do we like court date or anything? >> So, um it would get mailed. It's if you don't pay it within 30 days. So I have to go pretty much turn these into the court myself. It doesn't go through automatically. >> Um so pretty much once it goes in, it would be a month from whenever it's turned in >> that they would send something into the mail to again the address on your license. Um and then >> I have your phone number from your driver's license. Yeah. So, I'll I'll give you a call, you know, a week, week and a half ahead of time saying, "Hey, >> it's going to be on the third Friday of whatever month." >> Is it the court going to be here in the Glen Burn or somewhere? >> I think it would be in Annapolis. >> Annapolis. Yeah, I can go there. >> Um because it would be it would be the third month of whatever month, you know, there is a docket. So, potentially April. >> Okay. >> Um February, March. >> Okay, we're good with that. But do you guys have any question for me? >> No, I'm just upset that you didn't give us just a warning because we didn't catch any fish or anything. >> It's just a closer and we didn't know that because it's a small sign. It's posted in the one tree in the other side and we just go from here just direct to the river. >> I got you. And I mean you you'll be able to explain that, you know, to the >> I'll take a picture of this one then I will >> Well, there's another one to the left of it as well. Yeah, we just went from here because it's small because in other other river I know up in the I don't know what's that river magazine. >> Yeah, they post a big piece big signs of that one. It's a closer pre than we do that one. That's why >> that's why we not it's our mistake also. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Yep. And then like I said whenever a court date is set um whenever it's a week out I'll give a call to both of you guys. >> Yeah. Um, just letting you know that, hey, you know, you have court. >> Yeah. >> At this date, it's going to be at 1:00 >> on the third Friday of whatever month they choose it to do. >> Friday is going to be a good one. >> So, all right. >> Yep. Thank you. >> Yep. Have a good night. >> Y >> just came. He just came in. Then he never catch a fishing rod also. Then why he's getting a ticket? That's the problem. I know I we we had a two rod. That's my rod. But he didn't catch anything that's why. >> Okay. I was just showing you just being loyal that I got the license but I was not never touched the >> the rod and burning. >> Yeah, >> I think uh I left at home but I'm just like why I'm getting this. >> All right, we will figure it out that day. >> Same day. Okay. >> Yep. >> All right. He's not. >> Yeah. Yeah, it's being recorded still. >> It's being recorded still. Thank you. >> So, Yep. End recording. No further law enforcement action. >> Maryland's courts have minimal public records. However, we were able to determine that Raj was found guilty about 2 months after this interaction.
