I'm a Christian I don't cuss much but THIS IS [ __ ] CRAZY. >> [laughter] >> ON JUNE 28TH, 2025, Alaska Wildlife Troopers responded to a call for an overturned swamped fishing vessel in the shallows off the beach north of Pilot Point. Due to the remote proximity, the United States Coast Guard was not present and did not respond to the crew's hails. Though this took place in the summer, it's worth noting that the water temperatures were in the mid to low 40s at the time of this rescue. Troopers aboard the Audrey Ann and its skiff responded to the call and began working on a rescue plan. >> Coast Guard's unavailable, dude. >> Yeah. >> Yeah, I'm with you for your information we don't have any Coast Guards. >> We're at Rocky River and the fishing vessel is the Survivor. We got our vendor bodies on the beach. I guess it's almost rolled over. I was wondering if anybody can find information through the Troopers. >> Yeah, what's Where is he on the beach? >> 532 11 8 run and 45 1 4 11 and the fishing vessel is the Happy Hooker. >> I got you. Three people on board, okay? Okay, let's see if I can hail the Troopers. Hey Troopers stationed in the Northway, do you guys copy on a vessel in distress? Do you copy? >> Right, this is Sacred Heart, do you copy? We're checking those coordinates and we'll be heading that way. >> Okay, thank you. >> 8278 >> Yeah, Survivor, the Troopers copy and they're going to go check it out. >> Yeah, we're on our way. Thank you very much. Survivor 5120 The boat's on the just north north of Smokey Bay. North of Smokey Point. >> Start heading that way. We're going to plug in on those coordinates right now. We'll head that way for a little >> I'll drive. I can just you can put it on your phone. Is that fine? Just a defensive driver out here. YOU SEE HOW HE FEELS TO IT. THERE HE IS. If If it reaches the beach All right, if it gets to the spot there's still a board and we're going to We'll see if we can get in. We're not going to swap our boats to get in. Uh slide. So, uh the giant tow lobster is still floating. If they have a line. We don't have a line. Uh tell me what the Ask him what the side's doing. I'll drive with my dinghy. >> Uh you just started back in on the flood right now. >> Well, it looks like for the most part there's M-16s, so yeah, we're not going to assume right in there. Uh we're not pulling that boat out. God. >> She didn't know where. >> All right, think of a plan, man. >> So, I'm going to I'm going to get uh straight down swell of them and then I'm going to start going in. >> Yeah, uh that's kind of what I was thinking like. I mean, I don't think the boat's going to flip. Unless they uh We've got a paddle I can definitely flip. Like that deep. >> Okay. >> About that then. About that, dude. Hope there's no rocks out here. >> So, see if you can yell to them and ask if they're everyone is okay. Is everybody okay? IS EVERYBODY OKAY? [screaming] >> YEAH. >> HONESTLY, I'm thinking stay on your boat. If you have to abandon, go to the beach and wait for the tide to come back. That's really all they can do. >> We can't get in there. >> Yeah, tide's coming in. >> And that's Audrey Anne right there, isn't it? >> So >> You know what? We We don't even have a really good way to get a line to them. >> Uh >> I'm trying to get you close enough to talk to them. Say, "We're going to work on a plan." That's that other boat right out there. >> Uh >> Uh But if if things get worse, go to shore. Yeah, cuz I'm not sure we can We're not going to be able to get in there. All we need is a little inflatable, but we don't have that. >> I'm not >> All right, just get as close as you can. They're They're on their boat up on Kim's Beach. They're 10-60. Uh we've got to come up with a game plan. We We just can't get close enough without beaching ourselves. >> Don't forget the house. You guys just stay put. You don't want to get sucked under your feet up. It's a good spot. Are you seeing >> So, I'm going to keep working my way in and see I don't We're definitely not going to be able to get to them. But we're just going to let them know that we're trying to work on a plan. Just let them know we're going to try and get the Coast Guard here, cuz I think that's the plan. Ask for 16. Warm enough. There's no one >> No, I haven't told anybody 10-60. >> You know, I didn't tell them to do anything like that. >> Yes. >> So far, everyone is 10-60. Uh just >> on a boat sideways in about 3 ft of swell. >> Roger, roger. I think I got a few more boats to pick my way around here and I think I'll be getting getting pretty close to the inside of you. >> 180 ft >> Just ask him if just Yeah, just We just want to make sure that they're fine. They look fine. Like >> I KNEW I STUCK WHAT. >> OR MAYBE INSTEAD OF IT STAYING WARM, JUST Is Is everyone still okay? >> IS EVERYONE STILL OKAY? >> SO, here's the deal, man. If someone falls in and looks like someone needs to get in the water, uh I'm happy to do that. Just I'm comfortable in the water. >> Yeah. >> You can >> Well, you're already still have a duty belt on so >> I already have a duty belt. If it looks like they're not going to make it to the beach, and like yeah, >> Somebody got to save somebody freaking bucks. >> So, um Let's look around this skid to see if we have any uh any life jackets. You have to believe we don't have an extra life jacket or a throw ring on this stupid thing. >> No ring. >> You got a throw ring back there? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Can he GET HIS SURVIVAL SUIT ALL THE WAY ON? >> HE NEEDS TO GET IT ALL THE WAY ON. >> THIS IS GOING TO roll fine. I'm not afraid it'll roll. Well, if I get the right series of waves, with I I I I'm going to go forward and then reverse out. Any update on the Coast Guard? >> Uh just talking to Nate. I'm not going to get on the phone with Nate right now. He's trying to trying to track them down to find out where they're at. >> Well, this boat is stopped rolling or so um Can you head this way and we might be able to use this if we go in, but I just need tag line back out to your boat, so just keep paddling our way. >> Two one, copy that. >> All right, this boat is kind of getting stable and they're starting to shoot out, so I'm ready to get in the water soon. >> Tell him we'll be right back. We're going to go talk to this boat. >> WE'LL BE RIGHT BACK. >> With an incoming tide and worsening conditions, the troopers decided it's time to rush in between swells to rescue one person at a time. >> I'm going to try and get in there. We're waiting for a good series of waves. Let him know. As you can get out one guy at a time. Not all of them but one at a time. >> Okay, all right, Coast Guard super senior. >> Yeah, just let him know that's the plan. Audrey Ann is coming out with another one. He's got a sore shoulder, so they'll probably going to need help swimming out to you. >> Roger, roger. >> Confirm that. You got a victim on you? >> Oh. >> That's all right, go ahead and try it. >> Just catch him. >> Is he swimming there? >> Yeah. >> They got some water in my feet coming out. Do that. >> Got that one. other one on the other guy. Yeah, we're getting them. We just don't want to lose. Hey, I'm a Christian. I'M I'M GOING TO I'M GOING TO PUT YOU I'M GOING TO HAVE YOU SLEEP OUTSIDE THIS I'm going to try the other side. Switch it up. Hold on, guys. Just hold on for a second. We're going to switch around. Do this different way. I drank you a little one. Let's turn and go with the seas. They're just too dangerous. Guys get violent. Get them off those. So, I'm a Christian. I don't touch much, but this is [ __ ] crazy. >> [laughter] >> What did you say? It's [ __ ] crazy? I said I said as a Christian, I don't drink you touching, but this is [ __ ] [laughter] crazy. JUST THROW PEOPLE OFF. HEY, BROTHER. WE need to have this up video. I was taking pictures. I thought I had the GoPro on there. Why you should at least turn on your body camera. Just next to Excuse me. Get up on the piece. Really? You hit bottom, huh? >> This way is getting bigger now. >> I thought I had that, man, but I don't know where that weight came from. Sorry. >> So, all good, bro? >> Ride, Tyler. Just watch. >> Tyler, the way to make I'm Tyler. >> Let's go. >> Go. >> Ooh. >> It don't work. Oh. Howdy, boys. >> Thanks, fellas. >> So, the uh the Coast Guard swallowed and then I was going to get around asking you guys exactly kind of what what happened leading up to you guys ending up out there. >> Well, we laid out and started taking on a little bit. >> Yep. >> We ran around the back and that was it because we were getting close to shore. >> Uh-huh. >> And I was worried about getting free shelled. And we got around holding the stern. We started running south. The Rogue River was coming down the channel. And one of the tall waves hit us and went like this and came back this way and the whole boat shifted to that side. >> Mhm. >> And then the boat pulled us like this. We looked out the back door and we had water coming in the cabin door and I went, "I better turn toward the beach and open it up wide open and try to get into the bilge switch." He goes, "Yeah." >> Okay. >> It was just like it happened in a matter of seconds. >> So, then you guys had a little big load on your net >> Yeah. >> and then uh the swell took you sideways and the load shifted and the boat just went sideways. You guys had water coming in. >> Yep. >> Okay. And then you just tried to head for the beach. >> for the beach wide open as fast as I could. Still sinking. >> Yeah. >> Getting there and we were hoping to get in there with a little light wind, but >> Yeah. >> a little worse. >> Yeah, it sure did. Um okay. >> We tried dropping our anchor. It just snapped off. >> Okay. >> So, we didn't get into the shallows. It was dangerous. The tide coming past was close. We got past the close cliff. >> Yeah. >> We didn't get hooked up squared away, you know what I mean? >> So, uh the Coast Guard is just asking about like how much uh fuel you might have had on board. >> So, probably 200 gallons, 200 gallons of diesel. >> And then uh Yeah, do you think there's any risk of that fuel leaking out? >> Yeah, probably won't leak. >> You don't think so? >> We got caps on it. We got caps on it. We got caps. And I noticed the stern where the house was down and now it's up now. >> Yeah. >> And then they get the fuel tank through the stern and then we see when I float it. >> And then when you guys forget them? >> Time. Looks like the fuel smoke for a little water. >> Okay. Uh all right. >> Hopefully maybe we get some of the closing guys and then we maybe we can get it and grab it. You know what I mean? >> Yeah. >> Get out of there. Just get something to hold up now. >> Hopefully on a nicer day. Oh, yeah. Um all right. >> In the end, all crew members were successfully rescued and declined medical treatment. They were taken to a nearby tender while aboard the Audrey Ann. The exact outcome of the vessel is unknown. However, after my time working as a firefighter, I worked in the marine insurance industry for nearly a decade and managed a team responsible for coordinating salvage efforts exactly like this. The crew would have likely worked with their insurance who would have hired a company to salvage the vessel. Given the vessel's size, hull material, cold water conditions, and remote location, they would have spent tens of thousands of dollars recovering the vessel when the conditions were [music] more favorable. With the amount of sand-filled water that was swamping the vessel, it's likely that it was deemed a constructive total loss.
