An officer with the Division of Alaska Wildlife Troopers located a Martin traps set after the season closed. Yeah. >> Um, I'll just get right down to Are you here to tell me that this is not public land? >> I am not here to tell you that you got your trapping license. >> Oh, Jesus. >> These your Martin sets? >> Uh, they were for uh about uh 2 weeks, but no luck. Um, >> were you worried about the land status here? >> Uh, yeah. So, um, I mean, I'm on Onyx way too much. the obsession and uh this was, you know, unmarked. I came out here in uh October um to scout and I saw the snow machine trails and everything and uh everything on I found an old tree stand back there. So, I mean, I felt good about it. Um you know, I'm not hiding this from the world. I've taken buddies out here. I've taken family out here. Would this fall under my It should be in this, shouldn't it? >> Let's take a quick look here. So, you have a split fish and hunt. >> Um, so that's showing that you do not have a trapping license. >> I'm going to uh if I can find a I mean, obviously, it wouldn't the app wouldn't lie. Um, I absolutely have a trapping license, sir. I swear to you, I'm not that guy. Um, what's your name? >> Uh, Nick. >> Okay. >> Who are you only trapping for Martin out here? >> Um, kind of. This is my first year really trapping. I'm from upstate New York. Um, I trapped a bunch of muskrat mink, uh, some coyotes, fox. This is my first year really getting back into it. I just got a military, moved back up here and, uh, wanted to give it a go. >> Okay. Um, >> did you keep your residency here? >> So, yeah. Yeah. >> Um, thank you for order number 143. >> Do you know the seasons for Martin Trapping? >> Um, everything basically ends in March. >> No. >> No. >> No. M. Uh, Martin trapping ended January 31st. Oh, >> okay. Great. How much am I looking out for that one, sir? >> Uh, I'll have to check, but you are going to get a citation for it today. >> Okay. >> Okay. Uh, did you notice the camera that was up there? >> Uh, no, I did not. >> Okay. I found your traps a little bit ago and and uh that's why I know you're here now today. I had a cell phone camera on your box that you took out the other day. >> Yes, sir. >> So, uh, you are I am going to be seizing your martin traps today. >> Okay. >> I'm not saying you're going to lose them for good. Uh, that's just >> I don't want them back, sir. I I'm I swear you I'm not that guy. I should have done my research. Iinging hate people like the guy I'm being right now. I I I really do. I'm not giving you a sub story, sir. Do >> you um if you don't have your trapping license, I can look it up later. >> Okay. >> But if you could show me your 2020 Did you get it in 2024 or 2025? >> Uh 24. >> You can show me your 24 hunting license. >> Okay. I >> I can use that number. Why is this thing? >> Um let me just get a picture of it real quick. And then hit the that plus there. Okay. Do you have your driver's license on you? >> Uh, >> I do not. Um, >> is all this information on your license? Well, I'll just get your your info real quick. >> Yeah. >> Uh, so your date of birth. >> Do you do you need to uh I'm full transparency. Sorry. I'm not thating guy. Do you need to look at anything in here? >> No, I'm just I'm going to take these two traps. That's what I saw you come out with. And I can take anything else. Okay. You don't have any weapons on you, do you? >> I do not. >> Okay. Uh, what's your phone number? Okay. Um, and do you still do you have an Alaska driver's license or you still have this New York? >> Yeah. Uh, yeah, I have a Alaska. Um, I can probably call my wife and get her to >> Don't worry about it. Um, don't worry about that. We'll get figured out. Um, all right. Well, just hang tight for a moment. Okay. You got any questions for me? >> So, uh, basically what the ticket's going to look like, I'll go over to you. I have to double check it, but it's probably just going to be a mandatory court appearance. Okay. >> And, uh, it won't say a fine on it. Um, and and basically when you go to court, the judge will assess it. Then, um, just like how this works is I I talk with the judge and I'm like, "Hey, this is how I feel about this case." Like, yes, you did trap past season, but you were super honest about it just now. You're being cool with me. Um, you're not trying to hide anything, so it's probably going to be just a, you know, $2 $300 ticket, so it's not going to be uh >> you're not going to lose your trapping privileges or anything. >> I really do appreciate that. >> So, sweet. Well, I'll be right back with you. You can just hang tight here. If you want to warm up in your car or something, you can. I'm just going to photograph these so that it shows that we seized him. Oh, he did get a trapping license. He got a 25. So that that's valid. But you know, your trapping license carries through the trapping season. So, um, that's good. >> I checked online real quick. You do have a trapping license. You bought it in November, but you bought a 25 trapping license. It's valid and stuff, but just have it on you next time. Uh, you're supposed to have it on you when you're in the field, but you're getting a ticket already. >> Is electronic okay to have it on me in the field? >> Yeah, but you just didn't have it when it was. So, yeah. Do you know if there's anything I can do about that? So, cuz when you were in there, I was I looked it up and I saw, you know, it was purchased on 11:15. But if I log in and present it, like, is that legal? Like, is that a thing? >> I would get it on that app cuz then you always you don't have to have phone service. And there's a way to like refresh it if you have questions. This fishing game is pretty squared away on how to use that app. So, just give them a call. So, you are getting a ticket today for trapping pass uh close season. Um there's some information here that I have to add later, like your your height and weight and all that stuff. Our system's down right now. You didn't have your license on you. Um if anything changes though, I got your phone number and I'll just let you know. But you do have a court appearance on March 25th at 8:30 a.m. That's at Palmer. Uh this is a criminal offense. It is it is a misdemeanor. Uh but so you know I'm I'm going to send in my sentence recommendation to be that this is reduced to a violation. So it's going to be like a speeding ticket. >> So it'll be bailable just in the field. We have to charge it as what it is. So it's going to get knocked down. So don't sweat it. It's just going to be a little bit of a fine and a learning lesson. >> Um if there was more going on if you have more Do you have any more martins sets out in the field anywhere? >> Huh? >> That was it. >> Okay. Uh, I would you can still trap for coyote and stuff right now, but uh if you have any Martin sets, just get them out. Okay. >> I assure you, sir. I wouldn't I'm not that guy. I really I mean, I clearly am that guy now, but >> people make mistakes. >> Uh, do you have any questions for me? >> No, sir. >> All right. Just make sure you make it to that court date. Okay. Okay, sir. We'll do. Thank you. >> Have a good day. You too. >> In the end, the suspect was charged with attempting to trap Martin during a closed season. The charge was later amended to a noncriminal violation. He plead guilty and was ordered to pay $320 in cost and fines. 2 weeks after the due date, the amount was sent to collections.
