You're not getting the meat. I'm sorry, but you're not. >> Well, here's the thing, Josh. Like, >> you don't get to seize the meat. I've killed 25 bulls in my lifetime. How many of you? >> If you like fish and wildlife content, be sure to subscribe so you don't miss out on future videos. An Alaska State Trooper was on patrol when she saw two moose heads in the back of a truck. >> Well, how's it going, Josh? >> I'm pretty good. How are you doing? >> Good. I saw your moose antlers in the back, so I was just going to ask how your hunt went, bud. is my dad's. One of them is mine. >> Okay. Who's this? Who's >> mine? >> Yours is the little one. >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, this one right here. Okay. And then So, this one's your dad's. >> Okay. When do you guys still have your hunt reports with you? >> Hunt report? >> Uh yeah, like the uh the RM3 have not turned in the job own or anything. So, I still got my report. >> Okay. >> And the I got my tag, too. >> Perfect. Yeah, if you got your tag, I'll take a look. take you punched him and everything. >> Yeah, obviously. >> Okay. >> I think [Music] >> No, you're good. I don't want you to lose anything. >> Well, yeah, there's the hunt report. Obviously, it's not filled out yet. >> Okay. >> I haven't turned in on you. >> I do have my phone on my boat probably still. >> Okay. I know it's right here. Yeah. [ __ ] Never know if I leave in my hunting pants or not, you know. >> How long are you guys up there hunting for? >> Um well, weing hardly got a hunt at all really unfortunately. >> But um >> there's the out trade you. >> So October 8th. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Two days ago. Not bad. >> Yeah. Yeah. No, just uh just got her down yesterday evening. >> Okay. How's the weather up there? Uh well, sheep for the top of a tree, I'll tell you that. >> Oh, yeah. >> Yeah. But uh other than that, I mean, it was probably good on leather stuff, but >> Okay. >> Yeah. So, where's your dad at? So, you said this one's your dad's, right? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Cuz I'll need to talk to your dad about his. Um and then yours. So, what do you So, what do you see with yours, bud? >> Most like kind of pretty obviously because of the you know, those are going forward off that. Granted, that is uh you know, there's a palm there. Not much of one, but yeah, that's the separation. The daytime 2 by two brow time. Looking at it like that, it's pretty obvious to me. But um yeah, that's what I shot it for was the 2x2 brow time. >> Okay. Um well, and then uh so how about how far away were you when you saw him up in the tree? >> Oh, I wasn't in the tree. >> Oh, you were in the tree? Okay. >> No. Yeah. No, I was on the ground actually. Uh yeah. >> And then judging yardage, but how far do you think you were from him? Oh, probably 100 yards. >> 100 yards. Um, >> yeah, I got a I looked at them for a little while and like I said that it's pretty obvious when you when you look at them how they are or brow kind right there. I wish it had more separation, but honestly um the way it bays out like that, I think it's pretty obvious it's a 2 by two brow kind. It's just a gyus, you know, that's how they grow. >> Okay. >> Call me. >> And then were you just using iron sights? Did you have a scope on your gun? >> I did have a scope. Yeah. >> Okay. What kind of gun were you using? >> Uh 6.53 300. >> Okay. And then what kind of scope you got on it? >> Um it is a Vortex. Uh >> Vortex. >> Yeah. 20 power scope, I think. >> Oh, so really high power. >> Yeah. I mean, it's almost too high power. I got to turn it down a lot of times, but Okay. >> Know it's a pretty long range gun there, but uh this one is is right there. So 100 yards ain't great bar. >> Okay. Cuz yeah, one thing on this one is we're pretty positive this is going to be like the main bay that separates it. So it' be a 2x one. >> No, no. The the bay here is lower than that one. So this is a 2x two. And it's obvious that this is on the same same plane. You can even see the grains are [ __ ] running up the same way. >> Well, this grain comes this way and this one just goes straight. So that's where >> Yeah. Yeah, if you look at it like this, straight on the top, [Music] like that, that's a palm right there. And uh because this bay is up higher than this bay, that makes this bay here would be the the bay separating the >> Do you mind do you mind if I just take a couple more photo take some photos of this? That way I can get a secondary opinion for you. >> Yeah, go ahead. >> All right. I'm going to just take this. >> No problem. Okay. This I know is in the back of your truck and I don't want to >> Yeah. No. >> Anything weird, funky, or >> like I said, I mean, um, yeah, when you look at it, it's like this, it's pretty obvious. This is a two brow palm right there. And then, uh, that would be the the bay separating it. And that's like damn midday time, which usually causes more problems than it does on itself. Take some of this back here. There we go. We'll just go this way. Yeah. Make sure you take one from the front. >> Oh, yeah. >> Sure. >> I'll just get a secondary opinion cuz one thing >> Yeah. Go ahead. And I get it cuz it's [ __ ] I mean, you get all these different types of moose. We got Canadian moose. You got moose and and we're one of the few places that have the gyrus moose. I mean, I see Hley's nose more legal on that one. I think that's just my opinion. >> No, I mean, it's always good to hear what people are are are telling like when they're out in the field, like why they shot it, how they shot it. And if you look at it, it's pretty obvious that these these are these are even however you want to determine it. Those are definitely brow times because of the way they they go forward off the main beam. Granted, there's not much separation and I get that. But um I mean, look how much difference there is between those points and these other ones. You know what I mean? >> Yeah. But just like I said, I'm just being upfront honest. I think this may be the issue is maybe this where it's jets out into the main pole. I'm just throwing that out there just so you know that I'm going to get a secondary opinion on that one. >> Yeah, go ahead. I I get it. I like I said, this is just how the shower smoothest are and like I said, this this is clearly the same palm in my mind, but um Okay, >> go ahead and get a secondary opinion and get back to me obviously. >> I definitely will. You got a good phone number that works? >> Yeah, >> cuz I called your number and >> uh see I was uh out of service. I was out at the range cuz I was uh >> Oh, gotcha. >> Dropped my gun on the way back to town. So, I wanted to make sure in So, >> okay. Um, and then your dad's moose. I can tell you your dad's moose. We've had already a couple like this in town. Um, and this one is not going to be legal. >> All right. Well, uh, you can take the horns and I'm sure you'll see in court because I got the definition of brow time right here. >> Okay. >> And, uh, this is how I read it. Or I mean this is all you can read it yourself if you want to. But uh right here it says uh brow tine means a tine on the front part of the moose antler typically projecting forward from the base of the antler toward the nose. And if that's not if that's not going to the base or towards the nose I don't know what is. >> Well here's the other thing that you got to read with these though Josh. Um I mean I need to talk to your dad kind of get his business on what he saw but like obviously like this this is like your first projection. Okay. Um when it talks about it coming off and then the other part that it says is the separation is there's a main bay that separates it from the main >> Yeah. right here. That main >> This is one of the main bays right here. >> I mean there's a bay. I mean I That's a main bay. That's a main bay. But here, check this out, though. Um >> cover that up. >> Okay. Well, here's the thing. You can't you can't cover it though, Josh. >> It's there. So you have to Yeah, I know. That's why that's makes it two because that's a brow tine and that's a brow >> except there's the main bay that separates it. >> So, >> and that main bay it's any point protruding forward off the main beam that's not attached to the main palm is a brow time. >> That's not how they clarify it though, Josh. >> Okay. Well, like I said, I'm sure he'll see you in court. And um >> is there a way to get a hold of your dad? Cuz I tried his number, too, that he had >> I'll find him. I'm actually looking for him right now anyway. Okay. >> Cuz I want to get his his side on what he saw, how he saw it. Um, same thing I asked you, like, you know, yardage wise, things like that, just to cover all my bases. >> Like I said, it's really not my, uh, my, uh, it's really none of my business is what it comes down to. But, uh, I mean, just to make it pretty clear like this. Yeah, it's pretty obvious to me that that's that's two brow tines. I mean, that might be one brow tine, but that's one brow tine also. And that makes it a two brow diner. But you know what? Um, there's always a judge to determine [ __ ] like that. That's what they're kind of there for. So, >> uh, >> and then your guys' meat. Where's the meat at? >> It doesn't matter. We're innocent till proven guilty. >> Well, here's the thing. It it like just like the antlers, they get seized. The meat could get seized. >> I know. Why? It's not evidence. >> It is, though. >> How's it evidence? Because the meat wouldn't make it legal or illegal. You're not getting the meat. I'm sorry, but you're not. >> Well, here's the thing, Josh. Like, the meat with this is going to come with it. >> No, you're not. >> Okay. Where is it, Josh? >> Huh? >> Where? Like, where's the meat? I'm not telling you. Why? You don't get to seize the meat. >> The meat gets seized. You can talk. No, it doesn't. >> It does. >> Why? I heard you guys let a bunch of meat spoil already. >> I don't know who you heard that from. >> Well, it's what is going around town that you guys seized a couple moose and the went sour and I had a buddy a couple went sour. >> I had a buddy a couple years ago that the same exact thing happened and he lost over half of his moose and it was legal when the judge was done with it. So, we're innocent till proven guilty. We're keeping the meat. >> Okay. I'm gonna I'm gonna make some phone calls, but I'm gonna tell you that moose is coming with me or one of you guys are coming with me because right now it's a misdemeanor crime. >> How is it a misdemeanor crime? We haven't done anything wrong. We're innocent until proven guilty. >> Okay. It's a misdemeanor crime because I'm going to charge your dad right now with taking a sublegal bull. >> That's legal. >> Except it's not until, like you say, innocent >> until proven guilty. So, >> okay. That's where the court of law comes into play, Josh. So, this is where you guys have the right to argue it until the courts decide that it's it's legal. It's being seized. >> Yeah, the horns can be seized >> and and the meat >> the meat has to get taken care of. >> Okay, here. How about this? You guys take care of the meat however you want. Then bring it to me and then we're going to store it. >> I'll tell you what, you're still talking to me about my dad'sing moose. He's not here. So, why don't you go find my dad >> and then you'll talk to him. >> Sounds good. and then I will make sure I come back and get you a judgment on yours. >> All right. Thank you. Have a good day. I know you're just doing your job. >> I mean, it's nothing personal. I don't want you think it's anything personal, Josh, cuz >> I'm not taking it personal. I'm just, you know, >> not to [Music] Hey Josh, you back here bud. Hello Josh. Trip sewer bud. Hey Jim, is Josh here? Hey, get in here. You get in there, too. >> Yeah. What's up? Hey, do you mind come out here, Josh? >> Yeah, sure. >> All right, perfect. Yeah. Um, just real quick. Hey, Josh. I'm just going to just offload you just real quick. >> Oh, yeah. Go ahead. >> All right. Hey, thanks, bud. Uh, >> just turn a little bit. No, you're good. >> You're ready to go up the river again, so yeah, it's got one in the tube. >> Oh, no worries. Here. >> Okay. >> Thanks. Yeah, we're just going to go to your truck. So, we did get secondary confirmation from the biologist that it is a 2x1. Okay. Well, I'll have to see you in court over that. >> And that's totally okay. Um, but like I said, I was going to get secondary opinions. >> Did my dad ever find you? He was looking for you. >> No, I I >> uh Yeah, he was downtown. I told him you're at Sentry when I drove bikes. I seen your truck there. So, >> yeah. And I took off from there. So, I must have just missed him. >> Yeah, he must have. He'll be um he'll be >> Does he have a good phone number or >> No, he doesn't have a phone right now. >> Okay. But, um >> Does he live with you? >> Uh yeah, I can easily find him. So, um I I'll find him and you can take the horns if you want and I'll uh to help uh and we'll come talk to you in a minute when I got him, too, so he can talk to you about his. >> Okay. >> If that's okay. >> Yeah, that's totally fine. Um and I know and I know you're a little bit heated. Um >> Oh, no. I'm not I'm not mad and I know you're doing your job. I completely understand that and I know there's no hard feelings and stuff. I just under the circumstances of um my freezer being empty and the fact that we're not guilty yet and we don't know how you're going to take care of the meat and we have a precise and very delicate way to take care of the meat, >> we're we're going to do that ourselves. >> Okay. So, >> um >> so here's one of the things >> and if it gets if it gets uh clamp uh if it gets uh taken then we will openly give it to you without any any problem. But like right now it's uh the the meat's not doing anything, but it's like I don't know how you guys are going to take care of it and I can't really trust you guys to do it right. So um we're going to do it and um if we have to have to take it then or if you guys have to take it then that's that's um that's fine but right now it needs to get processed. One of them was >> that's what I was going to ask. I didn't understand what you're talking about processing meat. >> Yeah. Yeah. We got a process and um so far, like I said, it's >> it has nothing to do with uh proving our guilt. It's not evidence to our guilt. So, there's no reason for you guys to take it and maybe process it differently than how we like to have it done. >> Well, how's this? Do you guys want to process it and then have it put into evidence? Because here's my thing is, >> how is it evidence, though? I don't understand how that could prove the horn's legality. >> Well, here's the thing. When you start eating on it >> Oh, we wouldn't eat on it. Well, how do I know that? Like I don't I don't know how much moose is going to be missing. So that's why like we have freezers. The other moose that I I I took care of, I wrapped them in saran wrap. Hold on just hold on just a second, Josh. >> Here for just so >> the other other moose I wrapped them how the how the other guys wanted them. Okay. I saran wrapped him. >> What about What about Ry's moose? What What about that one? How's that meat? Cuz he says he still has his meat. >> He doesn't have it. >> He said he said that he did not let you guys take it. No, I have it. >> I've got it. And and I I processed his the same. >> Somebody's lying. So, I'm not >> And this is this is what I'm telling you. Like I processed it how Randy wanted it. He wanted it saran wrapped. And so I saran wrapped the [ __ ] out of that thing. And then I put it in garbage bag and it's at the cold storage over and tried it. >> Well, here's another thing. When when our meat Well, cuz I know my mousse is legal. So when it's determined legal by a judge, um >> how am I going to know that you guys didn't mix it up with all that other meat got in your cold storage? >> Yeah. So here's the thing. I I tag all mine. Um I tag every single Right now each one is in quarters. I got in quarters and I have leaves in quarters. Each one has a tag going through um a part of the skin, a part of the hide, a part of this. It's not processed. Then if it's still >> This is how they wanted it. That's how they wanted it though, Josh. And >> until they get to see court, they're going to leave it on the bone that long. That seems reckless to me. >> That is how they wanted it. I gave them the option. I even gave Flick and Drew the option that says, "Look, if you want to process it the way you want it in case the courts give it back to you, I am 100% okay with that." And then I just got to make sure I get the >> Did you talk to by the way? >> Frank Robbins. >> Is that the guy in Petersburg? >> Yeah, cuz there's no one here. >> Yeah, I know. That's so [ __ ] >> So, um um but that's the thing like if you guys want to process it the way you want to process it, that way if the court delay, >> like I said, we got to take care of my dad's cuz he was in the field for longer than mine and it's we're Yeah. So, I mean like Yeah. a couple. It takes a while to get them out when they're way back by the hills. So, okay. >> We're taking care of that today and then um probably letting mine hang for a couple days and then taking care of it and stuff. >> Well, I mean, here's here's the other option I can give you, Josh. You guys can process it and then if you guys want to give it to me in totes, I can throw it in cold storage. That way, it it's evidence. No one's going to touch it. I know no one's going to be eating on it. Um and then if the court steam it back to you, you guys get it exactly how you guys wanted it. Um, otherwise, um, I can take it, I can wrap it just like the other ones. It may not be how you want it, but if you guys want to take the time and process it and then give it to me to hold on to until it's adjudicated with the courts, we can do that. The other thing >> Well, here here's the thing is, uh, definitely going to we're definitely processing it no matter what. Um, but I really feel like my dad should be here cuz we're talking about his news, too. >> But we're also talking about yours. So, once I get a hold of your dad, then we can I can talk to him. Me and my dad will come find you today together and we will discuss this because I can't really speak for him and I really shouldn't even be speaking for like >> Well, you can speak for yourself still. Here's my card >> myself. And um yeah, I think I still got it on the floor. But yeah, I'll hold on to this and um >> yeah, I'll come and find you. Um >> cuz I'm only on for a little bit more today. So if you guys can find me sooner rather than later. >> Yeah. know, I'm literally uh headed uh headed back to I'm sure I'll find him right away. He's probably on his boat or something. So, >> I can swing by the Christine the Christina, too, cuz it's right next to your boat, right? >> Yeah. Yeah. Um like I said, I don't know if he's down there or he was looking for you, so I was probably just going to pick him up through town, but I'll go find him and uh we'll come talk to you about that. But, yeah, we definitely we have to process the one of my dad's to make sure the meat stays good and [ __ ] >> And then we'll uh discuss the rest of this after that. Okay, that sounds good. Because the other thing I was going to let you guys know is like if you I know you're pretty like look, we're not telling you where the meat's at. We're not giving giving it to you. Like if that's the case, >> I'm just I'm just >> here's if that's the case, then it could be a separate charge for um it could be like tampering with with evidence, which is a felony charge. Um and if I don't have to do that for you guys, like I'd rather not because you guys seem like good dudes. Just made an honest mistake. Um >> no, we didn't actually. You were the one making the mistake, but yeah, that's what that's what court's for. >> Yeah, absolutely. And I'm not even I'm not mad. I'm not even getting upset whatsoever. Like, no worries. I've just uh I think it's funny that uh you're you're doing this. But, um yeah. All right. No worries. So, >> uh we'll we'll jump over that hurdle when we get to. Like I said, I got to consult my dad obviously and see what we want to do with it and move forward. But, we're definitely u making sure we cut it up and wrap it ourselves because especially if you're hanging the other guys still on on the bone, this got to be going going it's at least freezer burnt here in the next week. So, and uh you know, who knows what we're going to do on the trial. Might just speed it through so we can uh finish uh getting our horns back and stuff cuz obviously >> and like I said, if the courts do that, they go back to I've got no issues giving it back to you. It's not mine to hang on to after that. So, >> I mean, yeah, I've been doing this a long time and it's very obvious to me that these are legal news. And I mean, I get it. You know, it's a new area for you and stuff. I don't know if you've worked up north or not, but >> And I've worked on the peninsula a lot. >> Yeah. Yeah. And >> so I mean I'm pretty familiar with moose. I mean obviously you guys got some funky ones down here. >> Oh yeah. We got a Shyus and a Canadian moose mix. So it definitely makes some funny horns. That's for sure. Um but yeah, no it's uh it's fine and it's um like I said, it's going to be pretty easy. So Okay. >> Um we'll uh we'll find you though. Like I said, I I'm a man of my word. I'll come find you. >> Perfect. I appreciate that Josh. Um so one thing I do want to give you before I try not to get it too wet, but the main thing so this is for taking a sublegal boom moose in uh GMU3, which is where we're at. So big thing that you that I rewrote on this one because these carbon copies can be just absolutely terrible. So your court arraignment date is going to be Tuesday. >> Okay. This Tuesday. >> This Tuesday. That way if you today >> today is Thursday the 10th. So it's going to be on the 15th at 8:30 in the morning. >> Last day of museum. Okay. >> Yeah. This way you know if you guys decide to take a trial, we can get you guys on the docket sooner rather than later. Oh, >> absolutely. I understand that whole process. So >> and so your dad if I can find him today or you guys find me today, his is going to be the same time. That way, like I said, get you guys on the docket sooner rather than later to figure out what the courts is going to decide. If it goes back to you, awesome. I'm very happy if that's going to be the case. But if it needs to be go back to the state, then we can get things processed in and on the way. Um, right on. >> Yeah. But one thing is I am going to go to the back of your truck and just take that your set of antlers um and then put them in into our evidence. That way no one else can touch them, mess with them or anything like that. >> Yeah, that's fine. Um, obviously you got to take the horns cuz that is the evidence. So um yeah, right on. >> Okay. Do you have any questions for me right now though, Josh, >> that I can try and answer? >> No, no, not at all. Um I don't I don't have any questions. Uh we're all fine. Okay. Like I said, I'll uh >> I'll try and find you here in the next probably half hour, an hour. Like I said, it all depends on when I track my dad down. He doesn't have a phone and >> Okay. >> We're all working and trying to get ready and we're we got to go up and take our moose camp and stuff down and Okay. Probably hunt another another end of this season here. So >> yeah, sounds good. I'll have to drive by the Christine on uh on the way down. if he's on his boat. If not, uh I'll be in my office for the next probably hour. >> Yeah. All right. >> So, and my office is just above Federal Tongus Credit Union. So, um >> Okay. Yeah. So, the old fishing game office. >> Yes. >> Yeah. I know. Well, >> okay. >> Yeah. No problem. >> Well, thanks Josh for the cooperation. I'm sorry about this. >> My bark at you earlier. I just, you know, >> I know how it is. I know you guys work hard for this stuff. Um sometimes >> I mean, our freezer's empty. We haven't had a moose in a couple years. And uh I'm not, you know, talking about my my winter food. So, yeah. I'm getting a little >> No, I I get it, Josh. >> I mean, I'm not I'm not I'm not a violent I mean, pretty easy to get along with, so I mean, no worries. >> Okay. >> Um, awesome. Uh, >> all right. Well, hopefully I'll see her here in just like within the hour. Um, your gun is with Tim. >> Okay, good. All right. So, >> I I hated all that. >> I didn't notice, man. No worries. I >> And that's why I wanted you to know that like, hey, we took off, but your buddies got inside. So, >> yeah. No, I noticed cuz I was talking to you, so I didn't see what happened. So, awesome. Well, >> all right, Josh. Appreciate it, buddy. >> Hey, thanks. You, too. We'll see you in just a little bit. >> Hey, how's it going, Chuck? >> All right. >> Any luck with your brother yet? >> Uh, no. >> Okay. I was able to get a hold of Josh, but I can't seem to find >> I was just uh knocking on the window. Nobody answered. >> Okay. Weird. All right. Yeah, I got a hold of Josh and talk with Josh and uh yeah, I just need to talk to to Bear, but I can't seem to find him at all. Yeah, I'm getting ready to go. I was just >> If you've already tried knocking on his door, knocking on the window or something, then that's all I was going to do. But if he's not answering or if he's not there, maybe I'll swing by their house real quick. And >> so what's the deal? You came and you took my horns without consulting me. I have 5 days to turn those horns in. And then you start talking to other people in the [ __ ] public about the legalities of my moose, Randy. other people without consulting an Alaska resident, a US citizen. I have five days to turn those horns in. You didn't catch me sneaking it in. I'm not trying to get away with nothing. Then I guess you decide you're going toing talk to my son about my moose horns. Why didn't you come and consult me? I have five days to turn them in. We had two long days winching it out and now you're treating me like a criminal. I haven't treat I actually was been looking all over for you all this morning. Yeah. >> Why did you take my horse? >> Yeah. I'll tell you exactly why. So I I was actually trying to track down Josh. And the reason why Josh was because I saw this morning that he had a couple antlers in the back of his truck. >> Um I heard that you and Josh came in last night and they belong to both of you. >> Um I came down to your boat this morning. I stopped by the house. Um I wasn't able to find you at all. It actually took me a couple hours to track down even Josh cuz he was been driving around town. Um, so when I talked to Josh, I got um Josh's side on whose antlers belong to who. >> Mhm. >> Okay. So Josh said he had the small antler set. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Um, so I even talked with Josh. I got double confirmation on Josh that Josh's was a 2x1. So I went and talked to Josh 1:30 this afternoon. Um, cuz he was over at Tim Hunt's house. Um, I talked with him there and I was like, "Hey Josh, I just got secondary confirmation." cuz when I contacted him this morning about 12:30 out in front of the library, like I said, it's taken me a while to find him because he's been driving all over the place. And so when I found him at at 12:30, I was like, "Hey, look, yours may not be legal. Yours is possibly a 2x1." And here's why. Here's the little separation. It's got one bout point coming out, but it's got a separation from the main brow pump. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt right now, but I'm going to get secondary confirmation with the fishing game biologist. that weight's not just coming from me and being like, "Hey, look, um, this is what I think and I'm going to have a professional um, do it." Um, at that time, he told me that the that the larger set of antlers were yours. >> Um, and I've been trying to find you all morning, and I was like, "Okay, I've dealt with two other sets of antlers just like this um that have come into you already probably know who they belong to." >> Who's that? >> Uh, not even close. >> And they are not even close. Now, this is the problem. And and and just so you know, I didn't discuss your antlers with anyone. I took them straight from the bed of Josh's truck >> and put them in the back of mine. So, I don't know who you're hearing that I discussed your antlers with anyone because I haven't. >> The only the only thing I asked uh I think it was um Gar was if you knew where you guys were at and that was it because I've been trying to track you guys down. Um >> well, and I've been trying >> for you to confiscate them because we got the fiveday rule. >> Well, here here's a small town. You're going to tell Cody that you know you took my horns. >> I mean it's we're not trying to get away with nothing. This is what's crazy. Why didn't you instead I feel right out of the gate when you take them I'm illegal. Something's going on and >> without even talking. >> Without even talking us even able to discuss the horns. The horns aren't here. I don't get to say nothing, but I'll see you in court. >> I mean that's pretty I mean that's terrible. >> It's it's it's a terrible way to run this hunt. It's a terrible way to come across as a public. I come off pissed off and I don't mean to, but I don't feel that I have gotten given the my rights to explain what's going on. I've killed 25 bulls in my lifetime. How many of you >> Yeah, I have to work throughout a lot of the hunting season, which kind of sucks. Honestly, I don't get this time off. >> Okay. Well, I mean, how many years have you done this is what I'm getting at of enforcing it? >> Yeah. And and determining horns. Have you guys taken classes? >> Yeah, we have. Had you? But this bull came comes off. It's a one brow tine bull off that main beam. Any point pointing forward off the main beam alongside of its nose is a brow tine. There's two two on each side. >> Okay. I mean, I can see where you're coming from, but when you look at your antlers, you have that main projection that comes off. After that, it's >> okay. That's pointing forward. This comes off and points forward. We were always told anything that points forward like that is a brow time. Over here, over here, this breaks off. Here's your mid antler. Okay. This one over here, uh, broke the mid antler off. >> So, you still have this first projection right there. That's your brow time. After this main beam right there, >> what are you saying that you can't have that much of a separation in the brow time? There's that when they when they talk about a main beam or that main correction main bay comes out >> the main bay after the main bay that separates itself from the brow bout tines into the brow palm. So that's where um this is coming you have asked the biologist this >> I have. >> Okay. At least well. So we'll see. >> And that's and that's where you guys will have arrangements and court dates and and the whole nine yards. Um and >> why why are we doing this though? Why? Why do we have to turn this this this this this hunt into a court battle? Are you guys trying to get as many citations as you can? No. Or we we trying to have a hunt that we we know that this these moose antlers on the river are are just they're non-typical. Just they that's the way they are. And you're going to go through this time and time again and every year and every year. And I can tell I can show you horns because I I have probably 25 sets of horns up here that they pass horns like this. Now all of a sudden we get a new trooper and >> every trooper has a different termination of >> just it's not just coming from me. It comes up from a couple of different troopers sergeants and captains who have looked at these and even it gets conferred also with the biologist Frank who's up in up in Petersburg who's like hey yeah these are not legal. These are 2 by ones. And so that's where it comes out. Like it sucks because I'm the one that comes and I'm just like, "Look, I got to take your moose." Um, do I hate doing it? Absolutely. But I have to keep everyone >> What's that? >> I can't tell you. That's that's where I would go and uh and get other opinions um if I ever came across. I mean, >> you know, that's just what it is. >> Is that a fork horn or is that >> That was for Sierra 2060. I don't even know where that was taken. So >> this one off the river. >> Okay. I mean go there. >> You repeat that. >> I said that's for Sier 28 and 1060. >> Uh >> I can see where he's mad cuz he took the horns without consulting them. Wrangle's a small town. You're going to find these guys. I know you've been running all over the place, >> but we weren't going anywhere, you know, >> and and >> and so you were down here. I seen you at the house and then bumped into him down here and then he was he was taking off. >> Okay. I mean, I gave you my card. I said if you saw him, I mean, >> this is what's going on. Yeah. >> I don't have any money. >> Okay. >> The city of Wrangle shut my power off. I'm having to I got a beautiful boat, but I'm having to live on that. >> I've had this house fire. I've had to completely shut my life down. I'll give you my bank accounts. I have had zero. I got the bank going to foreclose on me. I go up there and I shoot a legal bull and you're going to take it from me. I have nothing. And by God, I'm going to have to [ __ ] what? Ask Salvation Army foring food again. Here we go. I will show you mying bank accounts. I shot a legal bull and you guys are taking it from me. I didn't even have the money to fix my boat to go gilnetting. I had no deliveries. Look it up. None. All I was able to do is barely get by all summer and that's the boat I'm in. I'm trying to provide to get me through the winter and you took a legal bull from me. I'm pissed. [ __ ] What am I supposed to do? You're turning. I could have stuck that in a cooler, but I did the right thing cuz I was illegal bull and we drug it down and hung it in front of the god and everybody. God gave me the smoo and now you're going to take it from me. Frustrating. How the am I supposed to get behind? Ask Cody that. >> Okay. Um I mean just a couple other things. So um I take it Did you already punch your tag? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Okay. What What day did you shoot it on? >> Yeah. >> Okay. And I know the I know these animals are big. I know they take forever to drag out. I know um these these these moose are your guys' winter livelihood. I know that. That's another thing is is is there any truth to this rumor that two confiscated and they're they've let them sour? >> I don't know who's who's told you those rumors at all. >> I I'm just saying that's what I've been hearing. >> There's that back for you. Like I said, I don't know who you guys are hearing it from. Um there were two moose that were seized that were literally just like yours. Um >> so you're seizing these moose. What's the deal on on I I'm kind of talking for for a different group of people in in wrangle like the WCA. >> I don't know who that is. >> Wrangle the native. >> It's the native thing. And earlier this year I had any bull tag before the season to take and I did not take a bull. >> Any bull tag? Was that for here in Wrangler or was that for like up the Taku? >> No, it was off the river. >> Okay. >> In Wrangler Island. But we didn't take a bull cuz we couldn't find one. Okay. >> So, this moose that's being taken, can they do they need to get on a list somewhere so they can get that meat? Where where does this where does this >> or can I if it becomes illegal, can I just donate my moose to the tribe? So, >> a lot of times you can a lot of times they they pick out um individuals or charities to have these moose given to. Um, I know from talking with Chad and talking with Chris because a lot of times seems like Chris like once they get illegal moose, um, a lot of times they will, excuse me, have it processed by Chris Stewart and then eventually ground a hamburger and then and then sent out through the community. Who exactly it goes to, I don't know. Um, I know on like bigger communities like on the Canadian Peninsula, we would call out like churches, we would call it charities, we would call out the elderly um, after it's been processed. That way I know it's going to a good home. This is what I'm talk is is is it's a ceremonial thing. It's called a QES. >> Okay. I've heard of the ceremonial permit that they that uh permits are given through ADF. >> Well, I had one of those when we take them. So, >> yeah, we ours the one from my mother. >> Okay. Now, when was that time frame good for? Was it good for just a certain amount of time? >> On the 6th of September. >> Okay. So, definitely passed. >> That's passed. >> Okay. But I I'm just saying how do these how do they get on the to to to get some of that being that we didn't take them. >> Yeah. And that'll be something I can talk uh talk with Chris because I mean so just you guys you guys know I I sees two moose already this this season. Um every everyone in town knows that. Um and I talked with the hunters and I asked them how they wanted their moose processed. Um and and with Randy Easterly and with Dan Flickinger, they said, "Look, if you can just saran wrap it." Um and because they quartered it and they had I even asked Dan if if you want to process it the way you process it, that way you know your meat is good, you can give it to me and I will hold on to it. That way if the state gives it back to you, >> yeah, >> you have it the way you process it. >> Here's the thing is don't compare his moose with those moose because there is no comparison at all. >> Well, okay. I'm just telling you how I processed them. So I processed them how they wanted it processed. I saran wrapped them. I put them in garbage bag and they were being held in cold storage over at Trident. >> What if we what if I processed the meat? Well, cuz the the one that I shot, we were just going to burger. If I could even if you witness this or whatever, if I could cube it up, um I like to um do it when it's fresh. You know, obviously cut the tendons out and and bone it out. So, for our for our our whoever's consumption, it's the best quality that we can. It's our thing. um make sure all the sand, everything's cleaned out of it and get it ready for grinding and then put it in bags and and then have it frozen and then whatever the outcome may be, it can be ground then. >> Okay. >> Um >> cuz here's cuz here's the option I was given to >> and all the given the same option to Josh that if you guys want to take the time to process it, that way if the state says, "Hey, look, you know, this is going to go back to, you know, Mr. Jenkins." I've got no problems with that. Like I don't have any issues. But here would be the thing is like you guys process it, but I'd have to hold on to it because technically it would be evidence it up, put our name on it. >> Yeah. And then however many bags you have, I will I will annotate like if you guys got 91 bags, I'll be like look 91 bags. It's going in cold storage where it's frozen. Um it's kept it's preserved. And then if >> it's held over here, >> it does because they have a bigger uh freezer system in order in order to hold it. >> Yeah. As long as their name is separate from the others. >> It the others are quartered. Um and each one is it's tagged with their name either through the skin, through the hide, through the bones. Um that way it identifies that hey these four quarters belong to these three these four quarters belong to um >> I'm just going to call this process of >> freezing it with a bone in it. >> Yeah, we'll just go out and bone it or you got to take it to somebody that has a saw. >> Yeah. I mean it sucks but that I mean that's how they wanted it done and so I I'm just going by what they want. I even gave them the option or especially Dan I was like if you want to process how you want to process it and then bring it to me then but he was like you know then I got to pay a butcher and then I might be out that money which I totally understand. >> Yeah I kind of look at it different if somebody if somebody's going to get it we might as well give them a quality me I guess >> but then you got to think about it the courts reward it back to you guys then you have how you guys process it. >> So I've got no issues with that. >> Okay. >> Um >> as long as it doesn't get up. >> Yeah we already we already talked to you about that. All right. Yeah. >> I told them that's how they wanted it. >> Think mine's a two by one brass. How stupid is that? Right. >> Well, here's the thing. That's where the courts we'll take it and we let somebody else determine it. >> Yeah. So, um, like I said, I've got no hard feelings against you guys. If you guys win it, I am h more than happy to give it back to you guys. >> I like I like our conversation. Thank you. Yeah. So, I >> No, I like I said, I've been trying to find you since like 9:45 this morning. Um, do you still want me to I'll go ahead and fill out that the harvest report. This doesn't get me in any trouble. I'll go talk right now. >> Yep. I've already taken your moose to Aaron, so he's got a couple of the points, but please take your harvest reports. And Josh, take them take your harvest report over to um Aaron Powell and get the rest of that finished out. Um, and then I'll >> saying his is a one by two, too. >> Uh, not only me, but the biologist. >> Okay. >> So, um, and that's different. Um, yeah, it's uh uh anyway uh do you have a card? >> I do. >> So I can contact you one way. >> Um the one moose is obviously older than the other. And >> and Josh also mentioned that you took it that you took yours first. Um that you need to get your process sooner rather than later. >> I just don't want it to spoil, you know. So we were just going to get started on it and then I was going to explain to you how, you know, if you don't mind, I just would rather just process the damn thing and and make sure it's okay. I don't want the damn thing to sour. >> Yeah. Um, no, like I said, I'm totally okay with that. And then just a couple questions asked your son. Um, were you guys up in a tree when you guys shot it? Were you on the ground? >> I was on the ground. >> You know, about how far away were you from the moose? >> You just had to guesstimate. >> Um, about from here to that dock, I guess. You know, not from here to the rocks. >> Okay. >> You know, >> probably about what 100? >> Yeah, about 100. >> Okay. Um, what kind of rifle were you using? Did it have a scope or were you using iron sights or >> a scope? >> Scope. >> Okay. What kind of What kind of rifle? And then, uh, was it like a 3x9? I know Josh mentioned he's got something by 20. >> Um, it was, uh, 4 to 12. >> 4 to 12. Okay. Um, >> of course being in the brush, I had to have it a little bit lower, but you know. >> Okay. >> Then and then when he came out in the open, I don't know. just but yeah uh 4 to 12. >> Okay. >> And then about how long were did you observe him before you ended up pulling the trigger? >> Quite a while. >> Yeah. >> A long time. >> Okay. >> You know I did a lot of call and then was trying to make me 100% sure. So >> Okay. >> It actually was the other side. >> The other side. Like was he facing broadside to you and he turned this way for you? >> Sure. He turned a lot of ways. Okay. And I just I seen what I seen and I seen that coming off the main like I explained it to you. >> Yeah. >> You got some pretty high $3,000. >> Yeah. And I we really observe it. >> Okay. >> We let a legal bull go the other the next day. You know, it's just like we're not trying to just bang anything. >> You got the broken tine rule. We seen one pulling this one out. That was a working horn on one side, >> but it it was it was broken off and it when it rubs on it, but you got that broken tine rule in there, which is ridiculous. >> The broken spiker fork. The tines. >> Yeah. >> If you can still make out if it's an inch longer than it is wide, then that's not an issue. But when it comes to the broken, that's the fork or the spike. >> It had one coming up like this, and then it had one coming back like this. And and the one coming back like this had a broken horn on it, right? >> Yeah. It had a broken >> point and it was all brown. You could see where it is jagged, but it might have happened when it was involved. And we weren't sure, so we just let it go. I I'm just trying to get across to you that we're not trying to shoot. >> And I'm not think I think you guys are criminals by any in the me 23. >> Yeah. >> But it had it was broken off and then the moose had rubbed the velvet off. So it's all and they call that a broken. That is the goofiest damn rule that anybody that the state could have ever dealt with >> and that's where you guys have the right to take your stuff to the to the board of game and say, "Hey, look, we hate this rule. It's a stupid rule." >> And that's where you guys have a voice in this community and hopefully in these hunts that say, "Hey, look, these aren't right." Um, and then just real quick for you, uh, do you have to be called Bear or James? >> I bear. >> Bear. Okay. Um, and hey Josh, just one thing for you too real quick bud. Um, I don't need you to sign, but I I just got a call from the courts that says that they can't get your arraignment in on the 15th because they have trial all next week for Nakamura. I don't think >> Yeah, 15th is too soon anyway. >> Okay. So, what they're going to do is they have it scheduled for the 29th. >> Perfect. >> So, like 3 weeks away. Um, so what that is is it's arraignment. So, at that point, you'll say, "Hey, look, um, we're going to plead guilty, not guilty, or no contest." And then if you guys decide to plead not guilty and take it to trial, they'll send it a couple weeks out. That way it gives you guys time to prepare um and things like that. So right now both of them are moved to the 29th. So if you need um a new piece of paper for that, Josh, let me know. >> I think I remember with that. >> Okay. The courts and your guys' PO box is 947. Correct. >> Okay. She's going to send you just an updated thing cuz I know I told you on the 15th. >> It' be nice to be an updated one. >> Yeah. Remind So she'll send that to you by um by mail. that way you got an updated one. Um, I know some of these these carbon copies are pretty terrible to read, but the biggest thing that I did for you on the bottom was I rewrote at least your court date down here um on 10:29 at 0830 hours. Okay. >> Um, >> well, I'll u um I'll contact you after I get done processing my bowl and then I think we'll probably let Josh just cuz taking care of one is enough for a day or two. >> Oh, I I I totally get it. He said he's going to let it hang for a couple days anyway. And then um we're going to back seal it and do it like we're going to take like and then if >> if somebody else gets it then so be. So >> okay and mayor I appreciate you talking to me. Like I said I've been trying to find you cuz I wanted I wanted to talk with you and not just be like hey look I I seized your thing. I I only saw Josh like I don't know how often >> I wish you would have held off on taking the orange until you talk to me. But you know it's just a personal thing. >> No and I totally get it. I was like, I don't know how often I'm going to see Josh cuz I I was looking for him for like 3 hours this morning and I was like, I don't know when the next time I'm going to be able to see Josh or find you, but like my mission was to >> I'm I'm on the Chris 90% of the time. >> Yeah. I came down there at like 9:30 or so and I I knocked on there and I was like, "Yeah, >> I jumped up and down on the deck after 2 hours of 60-year-old guy." >> Oh, really? Okay. Well, gentlemen, thank you for your time. I appreciate it. Uh and then you got my card. Get a hold of me. Um, and if you guys got any questions throughout the whole process, like just reach out to me. Uh, I'm happy to answer any questions that that I can. >> We'll pass on a little bit of our circumstances to Cody just to see if he's >> okay. >> What he says there. So, I mean, like I said, I I really believe that that is illegal and >> Oh, my Yeah, mine's not anyway. You know, >> all right. >> But I'll explain it to the judge. >> No, that sounds good. Gentlemen, appreciate it. Thank you very much. >> Have a good one. >> Thanks. You, too. In the end, both individuals were charged and found guilty of taking a sublegal moose. They were able to get their charges amended in noncriminal violations, and each were ordered to pay $520 in cost and fines, which were paid shortly after.
