On December 24th, 2024, deputies arrived at a home where a domestic dispute had turned into a scene of physical violence. A woman reported that her boyfriend, Brandon, had assaulted her and their small children. What started as a claim about nicotine withdrawal [music] quickly unraveled into a much darker story of habitual abuse and dangerous tempers. Why don't you have the caller step out so we're not going up to the door? 7 dispatch, can you have the caller step outside the house? It's a kid. I think it's a kid sitting right there letting you know. Hi, how you doing? Did you call us? >> Can you come over here and talk to us? What's going on? >> First of all, it's okay. Is he >> the complainant should be stepping out now? [snorts] >> What's his name? Um, >> I'm sorry. You'll be calm down. >> That's okay. Just tell me what's going on. >> Um, so >> is that your kid sitting in the window right there? >> No, that's my brother. >> Okay. Sorry. >> Yeah. Um, so he's off nicotine and I was just trying to um come inside my room and do our daily cleaning. >> Mhm. But the kids and they I guess they got mad cuz they were both crying. >> The kids are crying. >> Yeah, my two babies. And then >> where is he inside the house? Is he on the on this this side? >> He's on the bathroom. I rent the room. Um >> so it's like a split type of housing situation or what? >> Yeah. Like that. Our house is like under construction. So Okay. >> I mean it's almost done. >> Yeah. Um, but >> is he armed? Does he have anything in his hands? >> No, it's it should be in his tow truck, >> which this one. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Um, he's a big guy, so >> Well, what happened? >> Yeah. >> Um, yeah, it's really Well, >> do you want to just talk to me personally? >> Um, yeah, I can. >> Okay. Okay. >> Okay. It's fine. What happened? Um, we just got back cuz the kids are crying >> and then um my 2-year-old, he has like a nine and I try to bring him back. >> Okay, >> you're good. >> Um, he like he kicked him and then >> kicked the kid. >> Yeah. And he tried sping him over. I was like, "Don't do that." And I'm like I'm like, >> he's a father, biological father to the kid. >> Yeah. >> Okay. But um I I was like I'm going to take the kids outside and like he starts swinging at me. I was like I never hit nobody. So I'm like oh my god I'm like he tries slapping me. >> Did he hit you at all? >> Yeah he did. He's um he like hit me in the head. >> Okay. What's his first name? >> Um and he's like in my system. Um >> Brendan. >> Brendan. Yeah. >> Okay. >> Um, yeah. >> How big is he? >> His late about his. >> The moment officers arrived, the house felt like a pressure cooker, ready to blow. The father lashed out, kicking a child and swinging at the mother, all under the guise of frustration from nicotine withdrawal. She was 3 months pregnant with a 9-month-old at home and an [music] abusive father in the mix, which made the whole situation heartbreaking. But how how big? Like >> Oh, like a little bit that covered him. Oh, >> okay. >> Yeah. >> So, he's not too big. >> Yeah, but he's really strong. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> And I was trying to get out the door. >> Is this him? >> No, that's my dad. >> Okay. Who else is in the house? Is that your kid? >> Is that your kid that >> that just got hit? >> No, no, he has an eye infection. >> Ah, okay. Okay. That's the eye infection. >> Oh, okay. How many people are in the house? Um, I got family members in my house. And right now there's just um >> I just need to know how many people in the house. >> Um, >> there's your dad, my son, >> my little baby, my mom, um, my three siblings. >> Oh jeez. Are they on this side? >> Um, >> I just want to see if he's isolated cuz I want to go talk to him. >> Um, yeah, he's isolated. He right now he just does not want to hear from anybody. Doesn't matter. Um, okay. So, just hit the kid. Where did he hit the kid? He just kicked him. >> Yeah, I guess basically like >> Okay, I'm going to have to take pictures of the kid. >> Yeah. >> But right now, what I'm going to do is I'm going to go in there and talk to him. >> I really want to pull him out to us, but he's probably not going to come out. >> Yeah. I just don't want to talk to him. >> Yeah. And you have a lot of family members in there. >> Yeah. >> So, what what's what's the other option I can do right now? So, we're good. You can come over here if you need to. Um, >> so either a you're going to leave that door open and you can tell him to come out. >> Yeah. >> But I need to see you and I need to see him or I'm if you give me permission, I can go out in there. But you're saying you have tons of family member in there. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> So, either you can even tell your family to go to the other side of the house. >> What's going on? I need to know what's going on. >> He kicked the kid. He kicked the kid, swung at her and hit her in the face. >> And then the baby I was holding the baby and he took the baby away from me and he um well threw the baby on the bed. I couldn't see what else he was doing. >> Did anybody witness this? >> No, it was just me. Do >> you have any visible injuries that we need to photograph or anything? Where'd he hit you at? In the face. >> Yeah, on the head. >> Is that red mark? Is that I'm sorry. Is that acne or is that >> No, that's acne. That's acne. Okay. Okay. And he kicked your child, the little boy. >> Yeah. >> In the eye. >> That's an eye infection. >> Yeah, that's an eye infection. >> It's a different kid. >> Okay. So, nobody saw this. But what what was he mad about? >> Um Um I don't know. He said he was off nic. >> So, he's moody. >> Yeah. I was like, okay. Well, that's when he said it hit us. Um >> she said he's in the system as well. So, what's his name? >> Um Brendan. >> Brendan. What? Yeah, you guys probably seen him before. >> Why don't you get her information and get and get the children's ages and names and then where's he at? What's he wearing? So, you know, apparently there's more than one man in there. >> As the story unfolded, the details became increasingly messy and hard to follow. To be perfectly honest, she was a terrible storyteller, jumping between different family members and various eye infections. However, the core of the message was clear. Brandon had lost his cool and endangered everyone's life. >> He was wearing a bright orange shirt. >> You guys married or you just have children in common? Oh, >> children live here as well. >> Um, >> how many kids do you have? >> We're like off or not? Um, >> together with him? >> Oh, just two. Oh, I'm pregnant right now, too. >> With him? With him? His child? >> How long? How do you mind me asking? How long? >> I think three months. that he's aware of them. >> He knows you're pregnant. >> Yeah. >> Nobody else saw this. How old are your children? >> Um my my last my other son is 9 months. >> What's his name? Same last name, right? >> Yeah. >> I understand you're upset. I'm just I have to get everything down. >> You can photograph. >> Um >> when you say he kicked him, how did he kick him? Um, I don't know. He just like >> get him out of the way or >> Yeah, I guess he ke him trying to jump on his dad and play with him >> and then we got mad. >> Okay. But you show Can you show me how in what manner he kicked him? Um I guess >> straight on or just get off me or or >> um he was laying down and then the cook he pushed my son off him and he fell on the bed laying down and he just kept kicking him like almost >> multiple times. The boy cry. >> Um yeah, I obviously cried. >> So then what did you do? >> Um I was like >> this was before he hit you obviously. >> Yeah. I said, "Oh my god, that's insane. I've never seen um somebody do that." >> And then what did he do? Um, he he spanked him and then >> Did you grab the child? >> I tried to grab the child. >> Is that Is that when he hit you? I need to I I'd like to have a timeline of how they >> Yeah. All this happened all like in a few seconds. >> So, did he punch you first and then kick the child or kick the child? Um, so she after he spanked us, I was like I I was like, "Oh, yeah. We're going to get out of here. We um he hit me in the head a few times." I think he pulled my neighbor. >> Did he stop you from calling 911? Cuz I seen a text came through. >> Yeah. >> He didn't call us. >> Yeah. I text, you know, >> so he doesn't know we're here. >> Yeah. Like I think all my family knows now. >> Yeah. >> They said this happened an hour ago. Is that correct? >> Yeah. What prompted you to wait so long to call? >> Um um we have like workers coming in right now. We have electricians. >> Okay. >> Um and yeah, I can't follow >> you. Not this one. >> There's no firearms in the house. That was nice. Nothing. What's that? >> Spanking a child for simply crying and wanting to be near their parent was absolutely wild and completely backward. No withdrawal in the world made it okay to abuse a child or a pregnant woman, [music] no matter how moody he felt. >> She wants us to pull him out of the house. Talk to her. It's right here. Is it here? Yes. Can you stay back that way? Brandon. Well, could you come out and talk to us, please? >> 1074. >> Oh, hey, how you doing? >> Hey, Brandon. >> Um, do you mind just stepping out front with us? >> Yeah, I'm going to get my >> real quick. Hey, let's don't even worry about your shoes real quick. Do you have any weapons on you? >> No, sir. Come on, man. Okay. Nothing. Not even a knife. Okay. Might as well put that down. >> All right. Actually, don't even don't even go back in there. Just go out front. >> Do you want me to get your shoes for you, bud? >> Yes, sir. >> Um, I've been trying to detox from nicotine. Um, I haven't had nicotine in two days. I told her I was like, just try to keep the kids away. I know they're they can be There's the keys. You want to hold on to the keys? >> Put them right here. >> Um I told her I was like I'm trying to detox from nicotine. >> Yeah. >> I don't want to really be around the kids while I'm doing it because they've been crying and screaming since I've been home for the past two days. And I've just been trying to ignore it. Trying to ignore it. And Okay. >> I lashed out and I hate to say that I lashed out. Um I threw the one kid off of me. >> How do you mean throw? >> Uh I just pushed him off of me. I done this going to sound bad. >> That looked like a kick more. So you kicked him. >> Yeah. Well, I shoved him off with my foot. I didn't want to kick him. I know they're kids. >> Uhhuh. Uh, and then do you mind just raising your shirt? I just got to make sure you got no weapons on you, man. Just just do that solid. All right, sounds good. Thank you very much. We're good. So, what else happened? Um, I got really irritated because they've been crying and screaming. I know they love me. I love them. >> Uh, I spanked the one, which is not allowed anymore. I spanked the one. I moved him off of me with my foot. >> Okay. >> I spanked them and then she took the kids and ran outside. I told her, "I just want to be left alone. I'm trying to detox. I don't want to be around the kids." I thought about going to the office just to get away from him while the majority of it gets out of my system and then I'd be able to come back and be there. >> Did you know you're uh are you guys married? >> Brandon finally stepped outside looking surprisingly calm for someone who had just lashed out at his own family. He tried to play the victim, blaming his lack of cigarettes for his violent behavior. But the officers didn't buy his nicotine made me do [music] it routine for even a second. Once they established that he knew she was [music] pregnant, the handcuffs came out immediately. >> No. >> No. Just Okay. Did you know she's pregnant? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Yeah, I know she's pregnant. >> Okay. So, >> I just [clears throat] want to get away from him for a couple of days while the most of it gets out of my system. Yeah. >> I know I can go to the office. My boss said go to the office. >> Okay. Uh, she's recommended I go to the office. I don't want to leave the office because I want to be there for her and the kids. >> Yeah. >> But if I need to, I'll just go to the office. >> Did you hit her? Did you hit your girlfriend? >> No, I didn't hit her. >> Did you swing at her? >> No, I didn't swing at her. >> None of that. >> No, ma'am. >> Okay. All right. Um, real quick. >> Mhm. >> Um, do you mean put your face that that far? I just got to check you. Okay. >> Put your hands behind your back. >> Find is my chew and put your hands behind your back. So, what's happening right now is that um obviously you're being arrested for um battery especially on a pregnant woman >> and um >> so I'm going to take him over. I'll search him, get him in the car. I'm going to bring the car up. What I recommend you do is look at the child. >> Yeah, I'm going to take pictures. >> Photograph her and the child. Okay. >> Do you have any questions for me? He's going to obviously talk to you. >> Okay. No, I need to call him. I'm going to Kiranda. >> You ever been read your Miranda rights before? >> Yes. >> Okay. So, you've been arrested before? >> Yes. >> Okay. Do you mind sharing what for? Uh, back in 2018, child abuse without harm and improper ways of two-way communication device. >> Is it with the same woman here? >> No. >> Okay. >> No, that was back for a sting operation in 2018. >> Okay. Well, just so you know, I'm sure you already know I have to contact ECF as well. >> At any point while she was grabbing those children and trying to leave, did you swing at her or make contact with her? >> No, not while she was trying to leave. Um, >> did you at any time period make contact with her? Yes. >> Okay. What happened there? >> Uh, I pulled uh her hair. >> You pulled on her hair? >> Yeah, I pulled on her hair. I wanted her to get away from me. >> Okay. >> Um, and then that's when uh I took my hands off of them and then she took the kids and what? >> Okay. >> I did take the youngest one and moved him over to the side. Is this side he kicked? >> I'll just take a picture. >> Yeah, >> the back side. >> Can you show on the back? Okay, he's okay. All right, you Oh, you're unbuckled. Okay, great. Give me my favorite face to the car for a second. Stay right there. >> In the end, Brandon's attempt to quit smoking ended with him starting a jail sentence. Violence is never a side effect of withdrawal. It's a choice made by someone who thinks they can bully the vulnerable. The victim and her children were finally safe from his [music] moods for at least one night. Hopefully, the court gives him plenty of time to detox behind [music] bars. He was charged with domestic battery on a pregnant woman and child abuse. He remains innocent until [music] proven guilty in a court of law.
