It's not a But it's not a buck. You did, you know. Okay. All right. So, keep on loading that for me if you can. While they had a confession for the initial shot, officers were yet to determine who fired the follow-up shots that ultimately killed the deer. All right. Just put You can tell this this one ain't been shot. Ain't none of these guns been shot. That's fine. Just put it right. I just want to make sure they all clear, please. For now. Just Just go ahead and clear it and we'll look at the box. [Applause] Okay. Passenger. That's above it. Yes, sir. Okay. All right. You're good. Just step to the back of the vehicle. While officers continued questioning one group, another officer contacted the other part of the group nearby. Hey, how's it going, guys? Y'all doing any good? Where's the rest of y'all's party at? Ain't too many of them over there. They put it in off 2011. Okay. How many y dogs y'all got on the ground? Let me I have to count. I wouldn't know when to get them out. There's one right there. Any other ammo in the vehicle or is that it? The guns itself. Okay, that's it. Everything that's in it. Okay. Bubba, how old are you? 18. 18. And your dad, right? Alex, senior junior third. Junior and the third. All right. All right. So, um, we're going to start walking through this. Okay. What? Through the events this morning. Yes, sir. Um, and so I don't just out of courtesy since your dad Oh, I'll talk to y'all together. Okay. I mean, he's 18. I can talk to him by itself, but I don't He turned 18 September. September this year. Okay. Yeah. All right. So, let's walk this way while we're talking. Okay. All right. So, you told me you shot around here the first shot. I remember the first shot was was was spaced out from the the war. Okay. Was like around this area. Let's walk and let's see if you can tell where where the deer where Wait, where was you at and where did the deer cross? Uh, I was on the I was on the dog box and I seen it like out there in the woods down. So, it already c Didn't the deer come from this way? Didn't it come from this block or did it come down? It's coming down. It's coming down through here. Okay. And so, you was on the box and it come it never cross the road then is what you're telling me. And it you shot at it running this way. How far a shot was it? Uh, give me the distance. a really tall tree. What was it? Further down? Cuz if I'm looking, the deer was You see them dead snags out there? Yeah. The deer was across that. So, it had to be down further, weren't it? Yeah. Unless Did it turn when you shot? Did it turn? Yeah. Did it like make a hard left or right or whatever? It It like went like angled to like right a little bit like down that way. Mhm. And so again, where'd y'all jump the deer at? It was like right over here. Tram or I call it tram boat. This actual road there that runs right down there. Yeah. Probably about two 200 yards. Is that where y'all cast down there at the tram? No, we didn't cast at the tram. We found the track going across into here on two across 2011. Cross 2011. I got you on the other side of the tram. No, on this side. on this side of the tram. All right. So, you cast and that's past the curve down there, right? Yeah. Right at the curve. Right at the curve. All right. And they didn't go far in there to jump right on the drive track. It looks like there's a couple of ponds and little swamps. Yep. Yep. I don't know. I ain't had to walk in there. I've had to walk in there. I don't like Yeah, that's rough over there. Yep. Well, there's some dog crap up here. I saw it was fresh and steamy, but I don't think it was you. I think it was that other Who's the other party here? Was they with y'all? That was a crew that their dogs ran across over here on this side. Okay. In a white truck and they were they were down there grabbing their dog ahead of us where you see me where I was catching all the puppies in the road. Mhm. They were ahead of us. But I don't know. We're all family. Mhm. You talking about that other group or you you talking about this group? I don't know. Okay. I don't associate with nobody out here. Understand? Yeah, cuz I I course the shot at 2011 and 255. So, and I you you know I was I was pretty spot on. So, I don't know how much further down here you would have been. But you pulled off the side of the road. Yeah. And you were shooting that 20 gauge. All right. So, let's say you shot over here, right? Yes, sir. Do y'all then you missed or you know didn't kill the deer? It kept on running, right? Did the dogs make it past or did y'all going around? No, the dogs were they were we would pull them out the other side. My point is when you missed the dogs is behind the deer running. All right. So, when you missed, did y'all jump in the truck and run around or did y'all wait for them to shoot over there? But we had somebody right here on the corner. On the corner. Yep. Who was on the corner? And then I seen that the dogs were fixing across the road. Yep. And that's when I jutted over there. And that's you. They stopped. They shot before you got over there. I I don't know if they shot or who shot while I was over there. Cuz like I said, there was a white truck over there, too. No, the white truck that come here that left y'all come around here. Take their dog. They come that left us and come back around here. They put their dogs were in with our dogs. So yeah, they uh the white truck came over was like saying our dogs in there too. Like do you know if it crossed? I'm like I don't know. I think it did. Okay. So they come over trying to catch their dog. And did they catch any dogs over here? Could you tell? Yeah. Two dogs. Yeah, they call two dogs over there. Okay. So now again, dog named Hershey. Who was at the intersection down here in your group? We had a silver car down here. Was the Jeep over there? The Jeep? Yeah. Over there at 255D. The Jeep was behind me. The Jeep was behind you. Once I started booking it over there, they followed you over there. Yes, sir. Okay. So, the Jeep. Well, who was over there when you Who was over there when they done the shooting then? Over there when they done the shooting. Cuz it was you. you, that group or the boys up there in the black truck when I pulled up the silver car and the Jeep. And the Jeep, right? Right. Right. And the Jeep you said was behind you. Well, when I booked it, the Jeep was behind me when I got around there, but they the dogs were already in the road when I got over there. All right. So, all right. Let me ask you this. Who's in the white? Who's in the silver car? Silver car. That's Adam. Remember the one that like didn't have the damn picture of his name on his license? And the lady his wife. That's his wife. His wife and his little baby. Gotcha. And then his two sons. Gotcha. Gotcha. All right. So, how far you think we're in the right area or how far up or down you think we need to go? Any any further? I think about right a little bit further down. After y'all left, was that J's dogs that went across 255? Did y'all cast when y'all left up there near White Gate? No. White Gate? Yeah. Yeah, we put we put it in White Gate and they ran all the way to Sand Hill. Oh, they ran the Sand Hill um west of 255. Yes. Okay. There's a big old wad going across 255 towards the highway or towards Sand Hill on the east side. And you say and the deer was coming through here. There's a little rough patch right there. You probably couldn't see it over there. Was it this side of that rough patch? Yeah. Way down there. So this is the whole party with the exception of Chris and the two other vehicles. They they they let me see they Chris. I know it's in Toyota and then a black Dodge. That's all. Right. Yeah. So there's one, two, three, four, five, six vehicles in. Y'all got six today. Two, three, four. No, we only have five. We're only missing the Toyota and the black Dodge. They're down there. Black Dodge and Toyota. And then the son-in-law, his son-in-law, that he's in the He's in the Toyota. He's in the Toyota. See, he's driving the Jeep today. My other son-in-law. Oh, okay. Okay. And my other son-in-law got my other truck, the Toyota that you said you didn't see. Freys. Phys. Fre is driving the Toyota. Yeah. Okay. Got Bubba with him. You got Bubba. Okay. Yeah, there were Chris. Okay. All right, guys. What we're going to do now is we're all going to ease back around to 2011 and 255. Okay. Okay. We'll all follow y'all back around there. Okay. All right. All right. Um, see y'all, all the ammo that y'all have in the Jeep is what I seen in the gun. Right. In the gun and on the the butt. On the butt of the gun. Okay. All right. Do you mind if I look in the floorboard of the vehicle? See if there's any spent casings or anything? Here's the ones that I set there for the Yeah. No, there ain't no spent casings in the floorboard. Who? Which one are you using, man? I was using 12. I use the 20. Officer. The 20 is a yellow. Yes, sir. Okay, I got you. He went to kick it out and it kept Can you Is there any shells in that thing right now? Make sure it's clear. Can you clear it for me? You can. Actually in my pocket. Okay, just clear it for me if you don't mind. All right. What kind of gun is that? Winchester. Winchester. Annie Bell. There any other shells in the truck or anything? Everything we have is right here. What I took out of kind of gun we got there? This is Johnson. Mhm. There any other ammunition in the truck or anything? Can you open your glove box for me? Just make sure. I'm guessing there's nothing about there with the kids, right? Okay. What kind of shields is there? Can you open it up for me? I didn't even know that was in. Yep. Gold sports on both of them. Good. Okay. That's your hunting license. That looks like a warning or something. I don't know what that is. Okay. What was that about? I didn't have a deer for me. Oh, okay. That's all it was. Yeah. And I showed you where I went and bought it yesterday time. He told me I went and got it. Okay. This is you right here. Your Lonzie. Okay. Any shells in your pocket? All them. Okay, that's it. Those No those shotgun shells. That clear? Yeah, that's clear. Okay. Let's look in on the other side. Just make sure you don't have no shells. Okay. You can open your door over here for you. For me, if you don't mind, it's a standard hunting truck, buddy. Ain't it? Well, I really didn't want to. I got another toy. Uhhuh. I usually hunt out of 16 gauge. Look. I didn't open that box for me. Let me look at them just a second. You got some vine or sausages. Mhm. Can't go nowhere without them, can you? Okay, sir. You can shut this door if you don't. I'll put shells right back in the door. Okay. And you put the shotgun back in there. All right. Here's I I want to talk to you who There was three vehicles right in here, right? There was you, the Jeep, and another vehicle. Okay. The dog and the Toyota. Okay. Right. That's that's y'all's whole party with the exception of Mr. John's, right? Yes. Okay. Well, when y'all my lieutenant came up here and y'all caught the dogs and left out. Okay. We found something in the bushes there and it's in now in the back of my truck. Okay. All right. So, I'm going to read you your rights. Okay. It don't mean you're under arrest, but I want to talk to you and they're your rights. You need to be made aware of them. Okay. You understand each of these rights I've explained to you. Yes, sir. Okay. So, I got a deer in the back of my truck. Okay. I'm going to go and tell you now. The deer is illegal. Okay. It's not a legal deer. I know you were here. The Jeep was here and along with a couple other vehicles. And you're telling me you did not fire a shot, right? I did not. Okay. Who Who here fired shots? Because y'all were here in a line and you would have you would have obviously seen it or or heard it. So if you didn't fire the shot, somebody did. Who was it? I know my nephew fired and his gun gun jammed. Okay. So he's where here? No, around this corner right here. Around the corner. Yeah. Okay. I was when they radioed for us to come get the dogs. I was originally around this corner right here behind the black Toyota. Okay. Which is the phrase you know him from yesterday. All right. His son was on a dog box. Okay. And he's seen the deer when it crossed and he missed. He shot fired a shot at it. Okay. And he missed. Okay. All right. As far as around here. Yeah. I don't know who shot over here. They was there. The shots were fired here. So who who was here when you got around? When I got around here and got to dog, everybody the me and the Toyota had pulled over here and there was a white truck here when we got here catching dogs also on this side of the road. Okay. Which is I think it was a white Chevrolet. And then we pulled up on this side. There was a the Toyota pulled up from beh in front of me and then the Jeep and then Mr. John's come out later. Okay. So that's the white Chevrolet. Do you know what hunt party they're in? I do not know. Have you seen them out here this year? As soon as we pulled around here, he took off and went that way. And this white Chevrolet. So where was he catching hounds at on this? See where your truck is? Yeah. Exactly. Parked right there. He was parked right here. Mhm. Okay. Did you hear the shots? I didn't hear it. I didn't shot. I I know. The only shot that I heard, like I said, was on this corner when my nephew shot off the dog box and shot and then his gun jammed. So he put the gun in the truck and then they said, "Come around this corner and come catch the dogs." When we got around here, who said that? Who said, "Come around the corner and catch the dogs." Uh, the guy in the black Dodge. The guy. Okay. Guy in the black Dodge. I don't know his name. He's new for our part. He was already around here. He was already around here. The other four shots could join us. The other four shots that you heard after your nephews definitely come from this spot though, right? Definitely come from this spot. So, the black truck was here and the white truck was here. Yes, sir. I don't know which one shot from there cuz I couldn't see it. And you were right here in this intersection. Yes, sir. Right there. Yeah. Around the Yeah. I couldn't see you around this corner at all. Hey, that's my lieutenant Chris Douglas. Okay. Hi. And you know, I don't know if you could ever hear me talking to your husband. Okay. We're we're we're talking to y'all because um some shots were fired here and we we found an illegal deer here. Okay. while y'all were all here. Okay, so we just trying to figure out we're trying to pinpoint trying we're trying to locate who who killed the deer. Okay, that's it. Okay, and it's a deer. It's not the end of the world. Okay, it's not like they killed somebody. It's a deer. There's plenty of deer out here, but yet we have to find out. We have to find out who shot it. Okay, so that's why I want to talk to you. Okay, before I want to before I talk to you, you're not under arrest. I'm just going to read you your rights. You need to be made aware of them. Okay, I just want to talk to you and like I say, as soon as we get done talking, you you can leave. Okay. Okay. Do you understand each of these rights I have explained to you? Yes, sir. Okay. All right. The first time that's ever happened to me. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. They're 36 years old. They're your rights. That's a good thing. Okay. That's a good thing. So, can you can you tell us how your hunt went down this morning before my my lieutenant showed up here to talk to y'all? So, we put in on 2011. Okay. Um, I automatically came around because I'm in a vehicle that has no dogs, so I didn't even So, you're driving? Well, we both we've been taking turns. Like, we've both been taking turns. Okay. Um, this time he was driving cuz I was holding Gracie. Okay. Um, so we came around and I said, "Let's sit right here." Um, on the corner like we were 55. I guess this is 55, right? I'm new to these roads, so I don't know. I go by the Garmin. So, 55 and then 2011. So, we were on the corner of there and I was standing with Gracie and Adam had backed up because the dogs started going and I was standing there. I had a child that was using the bathroom. Yeah. So, he backed up to where he could see down 2011 and this road 55. And then the dogs were running. They were doing great. I guess the dogs had turned and was headed back to 2011. Okay. And Bubba, my nephew, I guess Christopher Jr. or the third, he shot. Okay. And all I heard was get in, we got to go from my husband because I was dealing with Gracie. Okay. And so we pulled. Where did that deer go to when he shot? Which way was the deer going? We were in he So he was the deer in this block or was it in the other block? No, it was in this block. Okay. But there was other trucks that was on So you're supposed to park on the side. Yeah. They were parked on that side of 2011. Okay. We uh Bubba and Christopher was on this side. Left. Yeah. left side. Well, there was a bunch of trucks that were parked there as well. I guess their dogs and whatever they were running because I'd never saw it. I never saw anything. Um, no deer, no animal, nothing except for our dogs. I guess they crossed into our pack. Well, next thing I know, all the other trucks had sped around me. There was a white truck that I saw and then there was two others that was with their clan, the other people. Okay. Um, so we pulled up and we were literally on the a little bit farther than the corner from where you could see down the road. Okay. And I was standing there or I was standing outside the car and all of a sudden I heard on the radio, "Dogs are down here. You need to get down here." Who said that? It was I don't know on the radio cuz I don't Okay. So when y'all got around here, who was when y'all So when we came around here, who was already here? Um, there was the white truck and it was facing this way. Okay. And then there was the black I think it's a Dodge. Which way was it facing? I think it was facing this way as well. I don't remember exactly because I was dealing with Gracie. Like I'm I'm holding on to everything and make sure she don't get nothing. All right. So, and then I know like Where was the Jeep in this? The Jeep? I The Jeep was behind us. The Jeep was behind y'all, I think. So, yeah. Timmy and Mindy, I think they were behind us. I don't know. Okay. Okay. So, when y'all got around here, the only two trucks that was here was the the white vehicle, which was parked on this side of the road. Yep. And then the Dodge that was parked on this side of the road. And then we had pulled up, but we had only pulled to like right in here. Yeah. And then then that's when he was I saw the dogs coming out. So, we I jumped out to So, when y'all pulled up here, how many vehicles was here? Just two. Just them two trucks. Okay. Which way did the dogs come out? Dogs came out this way. Okay. Yeah. Now, how many? Because we were in this block. You heard Is that your nephew? You say, Bubba, okay. You heard him shoot over here on 2011. I heard him shoot one time because I Tracy doesn't do well hunting, so she's screaming bloody murder half the time in the car cuz I'm trying to keep her quiet. Okay. So, and then your husband said, "We got to go." Yeah. So, I got back in and I have the windows up because of Gracie screaming and I have my other one that's talks, too. So, I didn't hear anything else. You didn't hear any more of the shots? No, sir. You didn't hear the young war going on right here? No, sir. Listen, I have a young war right there. No, I hear what you're saying, but it was like a young war going on down here. It was like I could hear the shots over off of the highway. So, um you didn't hear any more shots? No, sir. He's screaming. Who Who else is with you? My two sons. Okay. Do they are they hunting? So, one is 10 years old. Yeah. Okay. And he catches dogs with us. My other son is 16 and he watches Gracie. Okay. Is he only hunting? No, sir. They only got one shotgun. They only have one shotgun. Adam is my only one that Okay. I I like to come and ride. That's about it. I can drive. No, I understand. Um No. And actually, when I I didn't realize that Logan cuz Logan did touch two dogs to catch one time for me, which is my 16-year-old. And I didn't realize that he's not allowed to catch dogs unlessipic. So, I told him, I said, "You have to get back in the car and you can't do it." Cuz he literally just turned 16. So, and he's actually going to take his hunter safety course in February to be able to get his license. Okay. So, I told him, I said, "You're here. You're watching your sister. I'm sorry. You can't get out of the car and touch no dogs." Okay. Do you understand these rights? Yes, sir. Okay. All right. So, you're out here hunting this morning. Y'all are over there off of 2011. And walk me through what happened from there. Okay. When the over there off of 2011. Walk me through your hunt. Well, we were on the tram road off of 2011 and when it cuts through cuts all the way back around. Okay. Over by White Gate. Yeah. Well, we were right where it goes through that pond where it gets real dippy in there. Okay. And I was stopped right there. I thought the dogs were coming there. Well, they were at first and then they turned. Okay. Well, when they turned, I heard a shot. And when I heard the shot, all the dogs stopped. So, I crunk up the truck and I had to go down to find a place to turn around. So, I went down a ways and found a spot to turn around where there's a tree across the road and turn around and came back out. Well, I guess they shot a bunch more times because I didn't hear no more shots. I guess while I was driving they shot up uh quite a few more times and I come around here. They didn't say anything on the radio and I came around here and that's when your uh your lieutenant pulled up. He pulled up like pretty much behind me when Okay. Which way were you facing? I was facing this way. You were facing this way cuz I turned around and came back down 2011 and came up this way. That tree line. Was there any trucks in between you and here? Yeah, there was. What trucks? There was that car. That Nissan car. Okay. And the Toyota was here. The Toyota? Yes, sir. The Toyota was here. Okay. I think that was it. No, the Jeep was in front of me. The Jeep was in front of you here. I pulled up behind the Jeep. Okay. And I sat there for a minute and then I pulled up. I pulled over here and pulled up behind them. And the Toyota and the car was sitting over here. The Jeep was still back there. Okay. So, the Toyota and the car was up here. Yes, sir. They were here when you got here? Yes, sir. Okay. Um, where was the dogs at at that time when you pulled up? They were coming out. They were coming out of here. There was some dogs coming out of here. There was puppies back here. And I told my boys to catch the dogs. I was like, "Y'all get out and help catch the dogs." And they got out and was catching the dogs. And then when we go to walk back up to the thing, my son, he's like, "Dad, there's a dead deer out there." I said, "What?" He said, "There's a dead deer. The damn dog was chewing on when I went in there to get him." And I was like, "What is it?" And he said, "It's a little dough." I said, "Sh." I said, "Well, good. Put a damn dog in the in the box and let's get out of here." Okay. And the game, "Oh, you guys were already here." I had no freaking idea. I wouldn't have had my son out there getting that. If I would have knew. How old are your sons? Both. Well, my boy is 16, but that's his best friend, and he's They both 16. They got guns, too. Yes, sir. Do they do? Oh, they're using my guns. Well, my son's using one his grandpa passed away and gave to him. And then uh his buddy's using my single shot that I had when I was like 12. The the the older gentleman in the single cab Chevrolet. Where was he at? I did. He wasn't here when I came around here. He wasn't here? No, sir. He said he was at White House or White Gate Road down here, but he wasn't here when I got here, but he came up while we were here. So, where was the deer? They just hot trailed the whole time. The deer had been across to Sand Hill before he even got there. Talking about the race here. Yes, sir. Where yall jump this deer at? Right in here. Right in here somewhere is where they jump. After when they shot like jump, shoot, and come on over here. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. They jumped. They trailed for a minute and they didn't trail long. They jumped and I thought they were coming to us. They looked like they were coming to us and all of a sudden they turned and came back. And when I heard the shot, all the dogs broke down. So that's when I was like, "Well, they must have killed a deer." And I crunk up. Well, apparently they were shooting over here while I was driving. And I never heard another shot. I know there was. They said they shot, but I didn't. I never heard. You and your boys didn't shoot. I only shot No, sir. We had shot all week. Okay. I mean, you can check our guns. We a We ain't shooting nothing. And I wouldn't let them shoot today. It don't mean that much to me. I'm on workers comp right now. I'm hurt and I'm just out here because I'm tired of sitting at the damn house. I would not have been I wouldn't got caught up in I don't care about no deer. Not no deer that bad. Yeah. Anything else? When he told me, man, I was like I I felt like somebody sucker punched me in the gut. My son said, "There's a deer out there." And I I was, "Holy G was already here." Why didn't you say something right then? Cuz I didn't want them to be like, "Oh, this mother snitched on us to everybody that I wanted to, but I was like maybe all guys would find it." That's I mean, just being honest. Oh, we're going to find it. I knew you probably would, but that's that was my mentality. And here's the thing. Here's here's the thing. What led us here is you're running, you're shooting, okay, and then next thing you know, you're catching the dogs when you got dog hunt for dang miles. Yeah. You know what I'm saying? So if you're shooting, why catch the dogs? You could keep dogging it. Exactly. Yes, sir. Unless there Have y'all had it? Have you had any hunts within the past eight or nine days that have been questionable? Have you seen them shoot at those within the past eight or nine days? He shot at one about three days ago over off Sand Hill, but And it was a dough. He said it was a buck. He told me it was a buck, but I didn't see the deer. And I only seen deer one time. I seen one deer cross 2011. And I know without a doubt it was a duck. And who shot anybody? And I And I saw one right here. Who shot it? My first day over here. Nobody shot it. Nobody shot it. It run up and tried to cross 250. Turned it crossing 250. And that day was just me and Ed. Yeah. And it got across 250 before we got around there. Ed shot at 250. But he said it was a buck. could have been. They could have jumped something else in there, run over, but the deer I saw across the road was dead. Okay. But man, you were shooting the ball by a long ways. Well, you're like the deer has been way ahead of way ahead of them. Okay. All right. And you didn't shoot nothing. You didn't shoot nothing. I got about 30 in there. You can look at it. Where was the shotgun in the truck? Is it like the rifle? Upside the rifle on the passenger seat. Okay. And that's your ammo? That's the ammo you shoot? Yeah, I shoot all kind of different ammo. You got I hear something rattling in your pocket. What you got in your pocket? What you told me to take out? Oh, 30. What is that? 30. Okay. So, you know why? Why we're talking to you, okay? You can obviously look over my tailgate and see see it laying right here in the bed of the truck. Okay, that's that's why we're here. Okay. So, that was found right here where y'all were catching the dog. Okay. Your dog was eating on the deer. Okay. So, that's why we're here. Mr. Mr. Jones, if you shot, just just be honest with me and tell me you shot. Okay. Don't shoot. Just like I said, honesty going to go a long ways. Um, and it's 16. Yep. Is that your gauge of your shotgun? Yep. 16 gauge. And I don't I never I never see 16 gauges out here. Do you? It's rare. It's very rare. It's either a 12 or a 20. Okay. All right. So, and this one here, where was this one? This one come out of the box. Mhm. 16. You didn't do any shooting, right? So 16 gauge. I think we can all come to the conclusion. Man, that's an uncommon gun. Okay. Right. Very uncommon. So, right. I I I don't Man, I'll be honest with you, I've never seen one. I don't think I've ever seen one either. It's either a 12 or a 20 that I've always kept. It's never a 16. Okay. So, you were over here all along from your hunt party. Everybody else was in between here and say 2011 back that way. Okay. Right. We can determine that. And your shotgun in your truck is empty. We we we we know that, right? Because the officer checked you. Okay. And uh your dog was eating on the deer. Was eating on the dough. Your dog was because they told me it was you had a name. I can't remember the name. Okay. Buzz. Bugs. Bugs. Bugs. So, your shotgun's empty. This is the ammo that's in the door of the truck, right? and your dog's eating on the deer. Okay, thank you. In the end, both individuals that shot at the deer received misdemeanor charges.
